Very pleased!
April 18, 2017
Our old Blue-ray Samsung DVD player stopped playing some dvds so I did some online research to find others had the same issue. It was hard reading through all the reviews on current available players but since we have a Samsung tv we wanted to be sure we could use all its features with the DVD player. The BD-J500 got good reviews. We are very pleased with the quality. No problems! Highly recommend.
Very happy.

Old Blu-ray player just got too slow. Bought this as a replacement. An unexpected benefit was the improvement in the Pandora sound quality.
excellent unit
December 1, 2015
Just received this unit . extremely easy set up, connects to wifi very easily. not sure why other reviewers say that there is no eject button on remote as it is under the left side red power button . loads discs fast great 3d picture seller very good also i received it much sooner than expected
Works as advertised

Works great. Once in a while it'll lock up, but On/Off solves the problem. It does the job.
I like this High end Blu-ray player
September 10, 2015
I've had this a day, and I'm impressed with it. I replaced a 6-year old Samsung Blu-ray that had grown cranky about recognizing Blu-ray discs. "Unable to read this disc..." Really? Maybe the Internet rumors about the Blu-ray's laser burning out after a finite life is true.Picture is sharp and clear to the tv; audio is great. I haven't tried 5.1 pass-through from the Netflix software yet. It nicely up-converts DVD to almost-Blu-ray quality.I have a few minor problems with it (which may or may not be a problem for you):The J7500 has two HDMI outputs, but only HDMI-1 carries video and audio. HDMI-2 is audio only. I can't do as I did with the last Blu-ray player: plug one HDMI into the AV Receiver, and plug the other HDMI directly into the tv.It has an optical output (toslink), but no other video output. No Component, Composite, S-video or RF output. It makes for a nicely-bare back plate. You should have an amp or tv that is modern enough to have HDMI jacks. The 7500 does have discrete 7.1 surround audio jacks. It's drawer-fed rather than slot-fed. I prefer slot-fed. This is a minor annoyance for me because I have the player at the top of a stack of components inside a cabinet. I have to be careful when I insert and remove the disc. (I have to lift it to put it in the tray instead of just sliding it in. I know, I'm whining, but vertical space is tight in my AV closet.) The covering door will open to a light touch, but you won't see the disc.It doesn't have an "eject disc" button on the remote control. At least I haven't found one. (The Eject icon is on top of the player, on the right side. Odd, since every other control on the top right of the player is mirrored in the remote.) I have to walk up and kneel in front of the tv stack to insert or eject the disc.It has a captive AC cord, not an IEC plug-and-jack. (My old Samsung Blu-ray was also like this.) Not usually a problem -- and you're sure the cord won't fall out -- unless you're alone at home trying to feed the power cable out the back of the cabinet at the same time you're trying to rotate the AV components back to their front-facing position inside a cabinet. Now to a supremely minor quibble: The remote takes AAA batteries (included) instead of AA. So much for my Evil Plan of standardizing on AA batteries. (HaHaHa)All in all, I like this Blu-ray player, and I'd buy it again.
MUCH SHARPER PICTURE, MORE FEATURES than my 2008 Samsung BDP3600 1080p
June 4, 2015
Sharper picture & more features than the 2008 Samsung Blu Ray Disc Player it replacedPros: Inexpensive, Realistic color, Bright display, Lightweight, sharper image than my 2008 samsung blu ray, easy to install, easy to operate, intuitive operation, sharper image with regular dvd, sharper image with netflixSHARPER PICTURE, MORE FEATURESI highly recommend the Samsung BD-J-7500 Blu Ray Disc Player. I love it unreservedly. I disagree with the reviewer who had trouble playing a disc. This unit works just like my 2008 Samsung Blu Ray Disc Player: open disc tray, insert disc, close tray, fast forward through Previews or let the Previews play automatically, when you get to the screen for the movie, hit play and it plays. No problems there. My primary reason to replace my 2008 unit was to take advantage of the Samsung "Smart Hub", for easy access to apps, because my old player only got Netflix, and was no longer supported for YouTube or Pandora. The bonus in upgrading was:SHARP: the BDJ7500 looks at least twice as sharp as my 2008 Samsung BDP3600 1080p Blu Ray for both ordinary discs and for Netflix. I have not tried a Blu Ray disc yet.FAST NETFLIX: Netflix works much more smoothly on the BDJ7500. WAY faster access and operation, plus sharpness that looks at least double.APP: Lots of them. More than anybody would ever need.I paired this with my 2008 Plasma SamsungTV series 6/650 50", model PN50 B650 S-1FXZA. I bought it to replace my still-working and much loved Samsung BD-P3600 1080p Blu Ray.I feel as though I have a brand new TV, because the sharpness is so enhanced when playing ordinary DVDs and Netflix. I look forward to exploring other options for entertainment, particularly YouTube and Amazon.EASY SETUP: I am not a technogeek. I am a 64 year old woman. As soon as my BDJ7500 arrived, I opened the box, put the batteries in the remote, pulled the TV from the wall, unplugged the HDMI from my old Samsung and plugged it in the identical port on the new, then I unplugged the Ethernet from the old unit and plugged in the ethernet in the new. Plugged in the power, and it turned the TV on for me with easy instructions on getting started. Time elapsed: 10-15 minutes, and the hardest part was getting down on my hands and knees to access the bottom shelf of the cart that holds my Disc Player. There are some optional audio setups which may take a few minutes longer, but I get my sound through my TV and so it was super simple.

This Panasonic Smart 4 K upscaling is as advertised. A real workhorse great for my home entertainment set-up. I purchased the 3D 4K Upscaling/Twin HDMI. Great design

The purpose of my review thus far is to include a few images I didn't have upon purchase that others may want to see. The only way to do this is to write an actual review so I will update as I use the player more over time. At first glance the player is well made and is no larger than a good sized tablet. You can hold it in one hand. I have an image included of it next to our already small cable box (32" tv above). It really is not much larger than a disc case. Setup was painless and I purposely avoided even looking at the directions for this reason, to see how hard it would be with no understanding of the product. I had it ready to go in less than 10 minutes. The hardest part was turning on my laptop to get the wifi security code. The power cord is similar in shape and size to a cellular adapter.. even the plug is the same. There are only two connections on the back of the player.. the power and the HDMI port.. that's it. So for those who are wondering, there is no ethernet port to connect via cable. It's all wireless.. and if your TV for some reason doesn't have an HDMI port you'll need an adapter. The remote is easy to use and if you have a Panasonic TV it will operate that as well. Pictures below and i'll update as I use it more.

*For quick reference since Amazon chose not to give much at all of a description of the product they're selling, here is the Panasonic page that describes this player and its features in full detail.

Very happy
November 17, 2012
Bought this as an upgrade for a Panasonic DMP-BD35, mainly for the online features, and so far it's been great.

I don't use Netflix so I can't comment on that but I do use Amazon Streaming a lot. My internet connection is not great, 2 megabit at peak but usually in the 1.5-1.8 range. I connected the player to my wireless network and other than it being annoying to enter a password using a remote control, it was easy and done in a couple of minutes. So far I have watched several movies and probably close to 100 hours of TV shows, standard and HD, and none have been a problem. The picture and sound has always been good and there has not been any choppiness, pauses or any other interruptions. If you are expecting to be able to stream stuff using a 2 megabit or lower connection and it be the same quality as playing a blu-ray, you will be disappointed and you should lower your expectations. From my experience, playing an HD version of something with my connection is like the upconverting of a DVD. It looks a little better and a little crisper but it isn't HD quality. I wasn't expecting it to be so it's not a problem.

As for the actual player, it's exceptional for the most part. There were several setup items that needed to be addressed before I could get the best out of the player, the TV and the disk. Stuff like having to turn on 24p, enabling some picture and sound options and the like. Nothing too hard but without doing them the playback isn't as good as it could be. Compared to my other player, the picture quality is superb. I have no complaints about that. Colors are great, clarity is great and overall it's just great. But again, if you haven't got the player optimized and your TV calibrated you may find you are disappointed.

I haven't really played around with the other apps except for YouTube. YouTube does what you would expect it to do although the interface is not that great and it can take you a little while to find things. I also don't have a 3D TV so I can't comment on that side of things.

The last thing I did play around with but found it more of a gimmick than useful was the remote control app. Yes, you can control the player from your phone quite easily but there is a slight delay which makes using the remote control far easier. The only thing where it stands head and shoulders above the remote control is when you are entering text. Since you can just type it easily on the phone and send it to the player it beats having to select each letter or number one by one using the remote.

I've upgraded the firmware twice, once initially when I got it and once around the beginning of November. I didn't really notice any differences but nothing bad happened.

Overall I am very pleased with this player. It does everything I wanted it to do and it does those things well. Depending on your usage and expectations your may have a different opinion but if you want to stream flawlessly via Amazon even with a slower wireless connection and play blu-ray disks perfectly then this is a great player at a great price.
This WiFi Blu ray Player ROCKS!! Its the best of its class!
March 29, 2012
Before I purchased this Panasonic DMP-BDT220 WiFi Blu-Ray DVD Player, I had researched virtually every player available on the market. There's a lot to pick from, but I wanted to find the player that had the best all-around features, and a great price that would fit my budget. And after looking at a dozen or so different players, I concluded that this Panasonic player was the best pick in its price range. Other players, have various other options, a varied amount of output connections, and may specify on-board memory configurations, etc. While this player does not specify the memory amount, it appears to be sufficient enough to load streaming media (such as Netflix, Amazon Video or Hulu Plus and play it back without any hesitation or pauses.

After receiving the player, I hooked it up, and it worked perfectly right from the start. Found my WiFi network without any problems. I entered the security password information and it was connected to my WiFi network and my Internet connection in seconds. Even configured itself with connecting to my other devices and PCs on my network also without any problems. I did not have to enter any network address configurations or anything except for the router/network access password. I was able to instantly see the pictures and videos on my shared PCs on my home network.

I use this for my Netflix streaming and it works great with no problems at all. And there is no lag time between the apps selection under the Internet portion of the player, but that might be because I'm using this on a fairly high-speed 10/2 broadband connection.

I've also used several of the other Internet apps on the player, and they all worked great as well.

The Pros of this player is that it worked perfectly right out of the box, and it was a snap to setup, connect to the Internet through my WiFi network, and very easy to tell it to automatically download and update the firmware. This can also be done by downloading the firmware file from a computer and putting it on a CD-ROM or a flash drive, and then inserting that into the player, and the player will then see it, and automatically update the firmware.

The only Cons of this player, if one at all, would be that it lacks a second HDMI or Component HD connection on the back of the player, but for me, that wasn't a problem, as I connected this player, using the HDMI connection, directly to my HDTV. It does offer also an optical digital audio out connection, which I have connected to my Sony 7.1 Home Theater System, and it works perfectly. Blu-Ray movies look and sound GREAT!!

ALL IN ALL, I think this is a terrific WiFi Player from Panasonic and I think anyone would be very satisfied with this player. I know I am. And doing a lot of research before I purchased this did help in picking a very good player. I think it's the best WiFi Blu-Ray player in its price category.

One last suggestion though, is to purchase a color calibration DVD, which is available on Amazon, to calibrate or re-calibrate your TV using the Blu-ray Player. This will assure you that your television is set correctly, for not only color, but also for hue, brightness and contrast as well.
Very Pleased!

This Panasonic DMP-BD110 is the fourth BD player that I have purchased in since 2007 (my first being the Panasonic DMP-BD10A, second a Sharp HP20, third a Panasonic DMP-BD60). As you can imagine, the last thing I really needed was another BD player, however, I just got a great deal on a 3D tv and, well, you know how it goes. :)

I am giving this product a qualified 5 stars, with this caveat: for most people, it would be well worth it to spend the extra money to purchase the the next model up (the Panasonic DMP-BDT210), which includes the wireless-n wifi dongle. These two players are essentially the same with the exception of the dongle, some cosmetic differences and the motion sensor that opens the BD tray (not something I care for to be honest). For those purchasing the BDT110, if you do not have access to an ethernet connection for internet, you will be stuck buying a dongle for Panasonic's exorbitant price (since no other dongles work). This is a big knock against this player that has been pointed out by other reviewers. For my purposes, however, the BDT110 is just splendid since my router sits right behind my tv and I have it hooked up using an ethernet cable.

BD Playback Quality: To be fair, with the current line of players from all the major brands have excellent BD playback and they all upscale dvd's well. The technology has improved and there is no bad one in the bunch in terms of video playback. Some players are faster at loading BD discs than others, with the Panasonic being on the fast side of this equation. 3D performance is also excellent, although I can't say whether that is attributable to the TV (Panasonic L37DT30) or the player or some combination of both. I can say that the player is very responsive and I have had no issues in two weeks that I have owned it. Whatever problems the player had last spring have been fully resolved by firmware updates (which come regularly).

Viera Cast: The Viera Cast suite is terrific. My tv is equipped with viera cast as well and you would think they would be the same. Surprisingly, they are not. The version used on the BD players is MUCH better. This is particularly true for the Netflix application. The Netflix application on the BDT110 provides a search feature that allows you to search the entire Netflix database. You essentially have the same access and control over content as you would on your computer. The Playback is smooth. Movies and shows, including HD content, load quickly and require little if any time for buffering. You can skip scenes and the interface works similarly to the one on the Roku XD box--excellent. It doesn't look as sexy as the interface on the Apple TV, but it is more functional. Also available is Amazon Instant, including free streaming for Amazon Prime members (like me). Excellent quality as well and you have access to the latest movies and shows. The YouTube app is also outstanding, giving you access to your subscriptions, videos is essentially a more complete than most apps you'll find on mobile devices. I haven't really used the Fox Sports App or played games on the player, but the Viera Cast system has a lot of potentially and it's quite impressive.

The Remote: The remote is well thought out, with a dedicated netflix button (NICE!). The buttons could be a bit bigger though and less crowded. This is pretty typical for BD players these days, which have definitely cheapened the quality of the remotes.

Playback of pictures and videos from an SDHC Card or USB drive: Again, a big improvement over the version on panasonic tv. The files are layed out in an easy to search manner, line by line. The player is able to crunch through all the usual formats, including: .mkv, .mov, .mp4, .avi, .xvid, mpeg-2 etc. This player does stumble a bit on high bitrate .mkv files in 1080p, but many media players have some issues with these files (some can't play them at all). Most of us will use 720p .mkv files anyway, and those are no problem at all. Photo playback in .jpg are no problem, photos are easy to search for, load quickly and look great!

Word of Caution: Please be aware that if you are buying this player to play 3d Movies and content and you do not have receiver (AVR) that is HDMI 1.4 compliant (in other words, 3D ready), you will have to run the HDMI cable directly to the tv and then run a toslink (optical cable) to the receiver for sound. This means that if you do not have a 3d ready receiver and are using this player for 3d content, you will not be able to play 3d content through the receiver. Moreover, being limited to the optical cable for the audio feed means that you will not be able to use the lossless audio formats on the disks (i.e., no Dolby TrueHd, DTS-MA etc.). This is not a big deal for my set up, but some people will surely be disappointed. Panasonic does have a solution. The BDT310, which costs around $200 on Amazon, has two HDMI outputs, one for video to the TV and one for audio to the receiver. If you have a non-3d receiver and must have 3d and hi-def audio, this is probably your best choice (or you can buy a new receiver--which will cost a lot more than the BDT310). Just some food for thought. Please also note that this is an issue with 3d playback through HDMI 1.3 receivers and is not unique to Panasonic. It effects ALL 3D BD players--so no stars are going to be deducted. If you do not care about the 3d playback and just intend to use the player as a regular BD non-3d player it will function like any other BD player and you can run the hdmi straight to the AVR as usual and get lossless sound formats--so for you people who have not yet adopted 3d technology, you can ignore this paragraph.

In short, this is an excellent choice in BD player, particularly if you don't need wifi included. If you do need wifi access, the BDT210 is the better value. With that caveat, I give the BDT110 five stars.

EDIT 6/22/11: I have been using the BDT110 for a couple of months now and I continue to enjoy the player immensely. I have only watched 15 or so BD disks and a handful of DVDS. I have had no issue at all with playback and the image and sound quality have been more than satisfactory. I am continuing to enjoy streaming apps from Netflix and Amazon, probably for more than an hour or two a day. Both apps have worked flawlessly. I have also been using the player to view home videos of my 11 week old that I shoot with Sony HX9V cameras in fully 1080p at 60fps in AVCHD format (28mbps). This profile is beyond bluray, which limited to 1080i at 60fps at 24mbps (or 1080p at 30fps or 24fps). Again, I have had no issue at all with playback. I am extremely impressed with the image processing power of this player. If I could give this line of players from Panasonic a sixth star, I would.

Blu-ray with optical, rare these days
June 20, 2017
I needed a Blu-ray player with optical and this one fits the bill. I was happy to get the WiFi feature but after the firmware update the WiFi stopped working and no matter what I tried, even resetting the player did not bring back the WiFi. i contacted supported but they provided no solution. The hard wire internet connection works fine so I will be using that going forward. I search online and found a number of people with the same issue. Would have been 5 starts if WiFi still worked after update.
Decent player, needs to buffer quite a bit when viewing from the internet
June 18, 2017
Nice player. It is the best of the middle-of-the-road blue ray players. The internet connection and functionality is hit and miss sometimes, takes a while to buffer if you are watching video from the internet.Overall, I have had it for 2 months and I am satisfied with it. I would buy again...as long as it continues to play the way it does now.
Great Blu-Ray Player, same horrible remote
August 29, 2016
Really nice Blu-Ray Player. The menu does have a very slight lag to it when you hit the selection button, but it's not that bad. Really good picture clarity and streaming has had no problems on my Cat6 Ethernet lines. The remote... is too small and the menu directional buttons get lost in the mix. If the lights are low and you try to chose something...good luck. Samsung really needs to step up with their remotes. Having the same bad design for a decade is pathetic. Voice recognition or even a fold out QWERTY keyboard would be so wonderful... but nope.
Samsung home run.
July 14, 2016
So far a very good Blu-ray player. The DLNA on it did not work with the vanilla setup of Media Tomb. Rather than experiment with transcoding in Media Tomb. I setup Plex on the media server and installed the Plex app on the blu-ray player. All is good again. The player gets used daily for several hours. It's either streaming from the net or directly from our network. Oh it does play Blu-ray's snd DVD's too, very nicely I might add. Well worth it.
Buyer Beware
December 27, 2015
When you purchase this product make sure that you go into the menu and click the ON position for all of the options. I didn't do that at first, and as a result, this unit couldn't play blu ray discs. Now it can.
Great unit & video but user GUI/remote entry is way too slow
July 14, 2015
i purchased this via Amazon. love this player. blows to doors off the Sony BDP-S370 though may not be fair to compare these two. the Sony [was] good when i purchased it but tech changes so fast.for now, my chief con with this unit is the slow response time with the on screen keyboard. i also signed up (created an account via Samsung website and registered the unit. but when i enter that user/pw combo via the sign in screen on the J7500 it returns no account. ok, so i create an account via the J7500. i entered user and pw only for it return i didn't enter a pw. i'm not sure if its my error regarding the online account setup via the web or this unit. i inserted my wifi keyboard into the J7500 hoping i could use a keyboard vs the remote to enter account info but the unit didn't recognize the keyboard. my Roku unit on screen entry via remote is way faster than this J7500 remote and on screen entry app.still, i give it 4 stars and dock it one star for the remote slowness. it is still worth the purchase though Samsung certainly could enhance the data entry via remote app. IMHO

Solid product at a reasonable price
April 8, 2016
In my experience, Panasonic has always made quality products at a fair price. I found that to be true with this player as well. I bought this player mostly to play Blu-Ray discs, which it does flawlessly. Please note this player does NOT have analog video and audio outs, or an ethernet jack for a hardwire connection.

What really surprised me was how much I end up using this player for streaming video. However, you cannot add or delete apps from the web. This player comes with preinstalled apps. It does have Netflix, YouTube, and Amazon Video, as well as Vudu and a couple of others I don't use. In my setup, I sometimes see video scaling up from SD in the first minute or so to full HD as advertised.

I give this player four stars and not five because the only way apps get updated appear to be through a firmware update. So far, Panasonic has done a solid job in releasing new firmware to address possible issues. I've noticed the YouTube app has been updated, for example.

I'm also not sure if WiFi performance (or issues associated with it) are due to the player, or my wireless setup. Overall though, I'm satisfied with this player.
Very Happy - Haven't Tried 3D Yet
March 21, 2013
I'm probably the last person in North America to purchase their first Blu Ray player. I bought this one and the non-3D one at the same time. I can't compare this to other players as it's my first and there are a number of reviews that can give you details on how it adds up to their other equipment experiences. What I can say is this player works perfectly in my living room and connected seamlessly to my Panasonic TV. I connected it to the internet via LAN cable to my router and have had no issues with updates or streaming media. Start-up is very quick and works perfectly on DVDs as well as Blu Rays as you would expect. Connection via HDMI to my surround sound system was no trouble and overall it was an excellent first experience with a Blu Ray.

I have not tried the 3D functionality yet because I have no 3D glasses but will purchase some soon and then update this review.
Good bang for the buck!
September 19, 2012
I'll start off by saying this is the first blu-ray I have owned. Wasn't sure what to expect, but heard and read many reviews and this seemed the way to go with my new 60" samsung I had just purchased as well. I really don't purchase movies, as I normally only watch a movie once and done. It has to be an exceptional movie for me to look twice at it.
So, the day I hooked up the blu-ray, I went out and purchased "Snow White and the Huntsman". This is a combo blu-ray and DVD set. Now the fun begins!
Installed the blu-ray disk and it would not read it. Not good and now I am getting irritated. So, wanting to watch the movie, I inserted the regular DVD disk and it loaded quickly and we watched the movie. When done, I tried the blu-ray disk again and what do you know, it read the disk and started playing. Not sure what the deal is on this, but when I get another movie, will do a follow up on this review.
All in all, the player looks nice and seemed to work fairly fast in the loading department. It does have some buttons on the top of the recorder, so if you are planning on setting another unit on top, you need to take that into consideration. I set my center speaker on the top and back just far enough to clear the buttons. Worked out okay. For the money, not a bad deal, but again, will need to see what the deal is on that disk not reading the first time.
All my components are running hdmi cables. The only way to go!
So far so good
March 10, 2012
Bought the DMP-BDT220 to replace a DMP-BDT110 that Amazon agreed to take back after the return period had already ended. That player was terrible. From day one it suffered from constant audio and video dropouts when watching both discs and Netflix streaming. I decided to let it ride hoping an eventual firmware upgrade would cure the problem but that didn't work. So I read that Panasonic had just released their 2012 lineup of Bluray players and I decided I would give them one more chance. I own many Panasonic products and most of them are top notch so I was hoping the DMP-BDT110 was just an anomaly.

The 220 arrived today and I quickly connected it using only an HDMI cable and the power cable since it is wifi capable. It connected with no problem to my network and after entering my password, Netflix worked fine - no video problems, no audio problems. Time will tell if that continues. Popped in a Bluray disc to check that out and watched for a few hours and once again - no video problems, no audio problems. Things are looking good.

I can't speak whatsoever on the 3D aspect of the player because I don't have a 3D TV. I bought the 220 just to get the Viera Connect feature which includes Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Streaming. In 2D, picture quality and audio is great for both discs and streaming.

The remote is fine but I use a Harmony remote so it will probably just be put away.

The only negative things I have to say about the 220 is I find the menu system to be a bit clunky and when you get into the Viera Connect menu button pushes become a little laggy. If every net connected device worked like Roku, the world would be a better place.

So in conclusion, I'm pretty pleased with the 220. I got rid of a cable on the back, in the brief time that I used it the dropouts seem to have been corrected and the picture and sound are great.

Last, I would like to thank Amazon for taking the 110 back because it was legitimately beyond the return period. That's why I like Amazon, that's why I am an Amazon Prime member and that's why I will continue to spend money with them.

Update - May 19, 2012: After two months of working fine, I put the Chronicle blu ray in tonight and the player wouldn't play the disc. It kept defaulting back to the Panasonic home screen like it didn't have a disc in. I unplugged the player for a minute and plugged it back in. The disc was recognized but then when the movie started, the audio began dropping out every 5-10 seconds. We took the disc upstairs and it played flawlessly on an older LG blu ray player. After the movie ended, I took the disc back downstairs to try and diagnose the problem. On a whim I turned off the BD Live feature and the disc played fine during the portion that was dropping out previously. Maybe just a fluke but that's still not functioning properly. I'm going to monitor but if it starts doing it again, I am returning the BDT220 and then I am done with Panasonic blu ray players.

Update - June 2nd, 2012: The BD Live off wasn't the fix. Did some more research and it sounds more and more like it is an HDMI handshake issue involving copyright protection on discs.

I ordered a set of the latest version HDMI cables and if this doesn't work, I am going to get a Sony BDP-S390.

Update - July 15th, 2012: Didn't get around to using a new HDMI cable but I haven't had any problems since the Chronicle blu ray disc.

Update - June 5th, 2013: Pleased to say that after several firmware updates, it is playing nice with everything EXCEPT The Trailer Park Boys box set.

Sending back. Does not play our Blu-rays. Had Samsung on the phone and they apologized for it not being compatible.
Huge gaps in the "Smart" features / brand
November 21, 2016
I could easily give this less than 3 stars but I've decided to live with the device and accept its weaknesses, mainly because overall it's a net improvement on my previous situation.I wanted this device to replace 1. an old dvd/vhs (!) player; 2. early gen apple tv; 3. early gen Squeezebox. Using it with a Samsung plasma tv (that sees my network drive and files downloaded there, but isn't a Smart tv for streaming services). So I want it to 1. Play dvds, blurays, and cds (okay I chucked the vhs tapes). 2. Stream netflix or hulu or mubi or hbo. 3. Stream rhapsody (or spotify I guess) and internet radio like college stations. 4. It should see my network drive on the LAN. And be controllable by other devices on the LAN. (***And*** 5. I wanted analogue outs to go to my "antiquated" 10-year-old boutique audiophile amp. (Eventually I've realized that getting an outboard DAC of my choosing is probably smarter than hunting for digital devices with analogue outs. But for now I'm skipping that extra device.) )Review and assessment: 1. It plays discs perfectly well. I have not attempted or pretended to side by side video or audio quality of modern digital disc players. Seems fine to me. The fast forward etc functions in a movie are a lot snappier than on my old player. It's good enough that I don't care if some others are a bit faster. One note is that the disc drawer sounds a bit lame or feeble when it opens. But I assume it will be fine. Another note is that I wasn't able to region free hack it with any codes. My impression on forums is that most but maybe not all others have also failed. It seems there's also a more complicated process of adding or replacing a chip to get region free. I probably won't bother because my need for region free is small.2. It offers Netflx and Hulu and Mubi for streaming (among others). But it does not offer HBO--_while_other_current Samsung devices do! How in the world are we in the 21st century and a leading technology developer does not provide a universal consistent interface or api for their Smart devices?! "Well it's up to the content provider to develop an app for each device", I was told! My blood pressure is going up just writing this.3. It has Spotify but not Rhapsody--yes AGAIN other Samsung devices do have Rhapsody! (Don't tell me "what's Rhapsody? Spotify's where it's at." Rhapsody beat Spotify to the game ages ago and that's where I've been.) And it does play online streams like college radio--but you can't directly enter addresses to steams manually. (Note added: I forgot there is a web browser. Maybe it will handle a stream. It's rather clunky.) You have to use an 3rd part app "vTuner" for internet audio streaming, via the catalogue they maintain. So far they have all the obvious things I usually listen to. But I'm not highly confident they'll have any obscure thing I read an article about. And I don't know how fast and consistent they are about keeping up when a broadcaster changes its address or anything. I guess they're probably good because they have a business as a white label provider. But I can't confirm it.4. It does see my NAS (synology diskstation which I highly recommend). But it only plays files in a folder order of "Title"! Alphabetically! Not track number. Not creation date and time (which in the rip process mirrors track order). Not file name (which my rips put the track numbers in). No, no choice for any of those fields. Only Title. (I wonder what the artists think of this...?) Fortunately it was easy to use an mp3 freeware tag editor to put the track numbers in the Title field. So I'm okay now. Apparently this limited option playing order may be inherent to the entire DNLA protocol, I'm not sure. Again--hello? 21st century here? Finally, #4 continued, on the LAN, you can't really control it with any other device. There is a Samsung Smart TV app for smart phone. BUT AGAIN it is not compatible with this "Smart" device! *@!!@&$#%@& I can control my ancient apple tv from my phone. I can control my ancient squeezebox from my phone (3rd party app). But not a current Samsung device--while other Samsung Smart devices can! (And who's responsible for making this app, tell me Samsung?) I can also control my squeezebox from any web browser on any computer on my LAN. The 7500 has no web interface for control. Maybe I'm not in the 21st century. Someone pinch me. (There is a third party app called "AirWire". It only controls the 7500 for playing from a network drive. Not for video/movie streaming, not for internet radio, not for disc player controls. And I have only gotten it to play one file at a time. Not an actual whole album / folder. So it's useless to me several times over.)Having written all this, ranting away, I kind of want to give this device minus 5 stars. So much of this nonsense is mind boggling. But--I can't point to any single solution for me that's better or even equal. It does replace at least 3 devices for me, pretty much (devices that are all quite aged), in part, kind of, with allowances. I can play my discs. I can get my most usual internet radio streams. I renumbered all the music files on my NAS. I get Mubi and Hulu (for Criterion). I can switch to Spotify. I do have to tune the TV to it to control it *. I get to use my "vintage" amp. I guess I can live with it. (It's a lot smaller, lighter, quieter, faster, and better interface than a Sony PS-3 someone passed on to me to try for blu ray and video streaming--which I obviously hated.)But when it comes to Samsung-branded "Smart" devices--if you thought that branding would tell you which content providers the device is compatible with--guess again! It doesn't even mean that the device is compatible with Samsung's own apps!(* Another side note: At first it seemed like it was impossible to turn the TV off when playing audio content. (This is especially an issue for a plasma like mine.) If you turned the TV by any remote or button it would turn the player off. But there is a setting somewhere, I forget even which device it was on, that cuts this coupling. Now I can tune into internet radio and turn the TV off, or turn it to other input to show (muted) video.)(Edit, yet another note: the device is set to output 7.1 surround audio on the analogue outs. If you are using a 2-channel (non-home theater) amp/receiver, then you will probably notice diaglogue sometimes fade into the distance in movies. That's because the dialogue and other of the sounds are going out those other 5 holes that you dont' have any wires in. You need to poke around in the settings to tell the 7500 that 5 speakers are off and use / mix-down to 2 channels. )

Does not work well with Netflix and has other issues on many movies you press play and it will not work the first time you have to go through the complete set up or force it to play from seen selection.
Nice player with a few major issues for some systems.
January 5, 2016
My older Samsung had stereo analog audio outputs so I could easily send the sound to my home stereo system. It sounded great. This player doesn't have the capacity for outputting analog stereo. I had to buy an audio extractor, which takes the HDMI signal from the player and extracts the audio and converts it to analog stereo so I can run it to the sound system. If you have a receiver with an HDMI audio input you need not worry but mine is an older system without an HDMI or optical input. There is an analog 7.1 output for surround sound but not for stereo (all the newer players have eliminated this capability evidently). I tried using the left and right front output of the surround but there is no dialog present since it is assigned to another of the channels. Interestingly, if I stream Netflix, the player defaults to English 5.1 sound and the dialog is missing. If I hit he audio button on the remote, I can select just English and everything works fine and I get the entire audio signal. However, when playing discs there is no option for English, thus the necessity for the extractor. Also, the sound level is quite a bit lower than my older Samsung so I need to crank up the volume control a lot higher to hear the dialog.Another annoyance is that there is no rewind function on the player when streaming Netflix, even though there are buttons for it on the remote. The fast forward works but not the rewind. You can go backwards (and forwards) by hitting the navigation buttons on the remote, however. When playing a disc, the rewind and fast forward work normally. As far as the video and quality of the other functions, they appear to be first rate. Maybe all of the newer players have these issues but it was a surprise to get a new player that didn't function as well as my older one in some important ways. Luckily, I managed to find some work-arounds and will keep the player.
Ok product

Response time is too slow. Remote is over simplified and little too small. Video quality output is good.
A toss-up? Do I like this Samsung or my older one better?
August 20, 2015
I now own two Samsung BluRay players, this one that I just got a few weeks ago, and the Samsung BD-F5700 Wi-Fi Blu-Ray Player (2013 Model) (which I gave five stars).I give my stars based on potential and promise, and comparing features that both units should have. I am giving this newer unit only FOUR stars. I reduced it by one star because it has a very annoying error. If I stop the player overnight, it might forget where it was on the disc, while on the older unit it did not matter. I can even turn the old unit off and it remembers where it is, or I can remove one disk, play another, then put the original back in, and it still remembers where it had been. So, I am not very "green" when I use the newer player, I leave it paused all night. I will ask the good people at Samsung to review my review and tell me if this is normal, or a return and exchange for a new unit circumstance.WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THIS NEW BLURAY PLAYER:* 4K MODE - The player will upgrade the look of BluRay movies so that they almost look like 4K, when you hook the unit up to a 4K monitor or TV.* 3D MODE - I have not yet tested 3D mode, sorry, but it was a reason for purchase._WHAT I DON'T LIKE AABOUT THIS NEW BLURAY PLAYER* No controls right on the player:-----> Correction, there are a few places to press, but they are not clearly obvious. They are on top near the front right of the player.* No memory of what you were doing survives a power off_Use your own judgment. I like them both, but I am using the new one in my office where I spend more time than the one in the living room, and this new one is the one in my office. Go figure!!JohnUPDATE:I did not want to bother trying to get unit fixed or replaced based only on what might be a battery issue. (When I stop in the middle of a movie, then turn the power off, this newer player FORGETS where I had been in the movie, so if I want to continue from where I left off, I need to leave the unit turned on, not very eco-friendly. A power failure also wipes the memory of last position.Today, I found what seems to be a MAJOR problem, which I'm sure Samsung will take care of, especially when they see the question I posted. I borrowed some DVDs from the library, as I often do (I also donate to the library). Most of the time, my only problem is the aforementioned memory loss, but today, the player would freeze with one image on the screen, then sometimes go to the next scene, but today mostly it froze and NEVER went on from there. I'd even tell it to go to specific chapters, and it wouldn't resume from those points. At first, I figured it was the disk (The Iron Giant could have been watched TOO MUCH, after all, but I decided to put it into my computer, and there, the entire movie played perfectly. Not one pause, not one freeze.I'm degrading the unit down to three stars until Samsung decides what they are going to do about this unit. Meanwhile, I'm going to move the old unit back into my office and see how it does with the identical DVD.

Good DVD Player, Lousy at Streaming
February 12, 2017
WIFI gets tired and can’t maintain the stream. Frequent buffering and complaints about not enough bandwidth. To fix you have to unplug it and let it sit about 30 seconds. Then it may perform properly. Or not. I often switched to a DVD.On a whim I bought a Roku and plugged it into the HDMI3 (Game) port so we could use the DVD player in HDMI2.. Its performance so far is flawless. Also has the benefit of a SIMPLE remote that’s easy to use.
Edited review taking away one star
January 27, 2017
Wanted to cut the cable cord and bought this to get the built-in software so we could stream video content from Amazon Prime, Netflix, etc. It was a better option for me than buying a new smart TV or a Roku box, etc. Did my research and this unit scored high marks all around. Very easy to set up and so far, very satisfied. Best of all, I said goodbye to the expensive cable company TV package.Edit: Been using this device now for about 5 months. Worked well until a week or so ago when the home screen began doing weird things and not responding to commands from the remote. Changed remote batteries, reset my modem, and reset the connection between the DVD and the wired Internet. Still having issues with the DVD home screen freezing and not allowing me to scroll to get an Internet connection. Will have to contact Panasonic for possible warranty repairs.
Home Theater Professional Critique
February 3, 2016
I am a Home Theater specialist by trade and purchased this unit for my own use. Having looked over the negative reviews, I decided to buy the unit. Most of the negative reviews seemed to centered around more complex setups and since complex installations go hand in hand problems ( Murphy's Law, he loves the fearless), I wrote the complaints off to over engineering the installation. Since my needs were basic and I was more interested in Panasonic's reputation for reliable above average performance, I did not expect any issues. The unit has a smallish footprint which is allows more placement options. Always very appealing on its own. There are not many connection options but this is ok for most users. Anyone who is looking for advanced high end installation options will be looking at more complex units. My big needs were a good disc player with robust upscaling to improve video on that occasional off the grid bizzaro flic. Panasonic has always been my first choice to video quality improvement. The analog audio product isn't an available option so not an issue in this review. My second requirement, and this is the big one, was streaming ability that is a robust as an Apple TV or a Roku. With DSL internet fed by predictably bad copper ( Thanks again AT&T), the best download speed I can get is 1.10 mbps. I needed a unit that could work with this effectively which is a big IF. Unboxing and set up are a cakewalk, The menu for network connection is direct and simple. They have not changed this in a couple generations and there is really no need. Its great. The remote has shrunk a bit but no buttons that I wanted are gone and button size isn't any more of a problem for my big fingers that it was with larger remotes. No stupid screen to try and make work leaving you stranded when it fails. Top the unit has a few of the needed basic controls out in plain sight so easy and convenient also. PERFORMANCE: Disc playback was all that I expected, great video. Menu options for video have been drastically reduced but in my case this was not a major issue since I couldn't care less about 3D and there is currently no media or a standardized format for 4K. Now we get to the really GREAT part, the streaming. This unit performs like it was connected directly to a Netflix server, even with my horrible service and it does so direct wired connection or via wifi with my Apple Airport Exteme. Let me mention that most of the HT service issues that we address are due to wifi connectivity so this performance is in part due to the very robust Airport Extreme wifi capability. The new menu layout is great, connection to your movie choice is fast and the screen shots of the flic or TV show help finding that feature that you forgot the name of but remember the faces of the actors. It did stumble when bandwidth became precious during prime veiwing hours but that has more to due with peer to peer bandwidth sharing than the units capabilities. Great video, great audio (due in large part to the rest of my system, Marantz SR5009 and a hot 60" Panasonic LED LCD TV). So it was a better performer than I expected and I was thrilled. PROBLEMS So why only 3 stars? GLITCHY. During streaming playback on the second day of use netflix, it just blacked out after about 45 seconds of playback repeatedly. I was able to get back to the movie the first few times but finally I was so frustrated that I gave up on the show. Since normally a splash will come up saying that there was a network issue that caused the failure, this simply blacking out was an issue with the steaming electronics in the DMP BDT 270. After this problem surfaced, the unit began locking up arbitrarily and would not accept commands from the remote. Control processors and video processors not getting along. I am not sure. Easy fix is cycling power but the only way that this would work was to completely disconnect the unit (Power, HDMI and Network patch cord). The reset restored function but the problems resurfaced so I have returned the unit. The vendor, Discones for you readily accepted the return (or Amazon did) however they do not offer free freight for the return, a policy that would make sense if the unit were not DOA. For me less than 24 hours of normal function is DOA. I hope this review is useful, I am not being paid, just a professional enthusiast.
Not Panasonic's Finest Hour
January 3, 2016
I used to always swear by Panasonic products. They have an excellent reputation. However, someone dropped the ball with this thing. I don't use it all that much, but when I do I am quickly frustrated by it. It is constantly freezing up and the only way to reset it is to unplug it and wait 5 minutes for the thing to reboot itself. I can't even watch 2 movies in a row. After first movie finishes, the only thing that functions is the eject button and then even that will only function once before it too quits. After that the controls and screen lock up and I have to reboot. It makes no difference if I use the remote or the unit's controls. The lock up affects both. I have mine connected to my Wifi and have the same problems with streaming media, so it's not just a DVD issue. I hope that someday Panasonic will update the software, firmware or fix whatever the problem is.UPDATE 5-26-17: Since my first review of this DVD player, Panasonic has released a firmware update. You will need to have your player connected to the internet to automatically download it. I have used the player for a few weeks now since receiving the update and I will say that I have not had any problems with it since. So thank you very much Panasonic. Better late than never I guess. I'm changing my rating from 2 to 3 stars and may return to raise the rating later if the player continues to function without issue.
This player screams planned obsolescence
December 30, 2015
It was good while it lasted. I've had this player for several years now and it worked great for a long time. Unfortunately Panasonic didn't update the firmware as much as one might expect and it's had problems here and there. Now almost no new Netflix Blu Rays will play on it (especially bad are the rental discs). I had to fall back to an even older Sony player that's been updated more frequently and plays those discs perfectly. I can't in good faith recommend a Panasonic player unless they're willing to support them for at least a few years. These discs aren't anything special.Additionally, the apps are trash on this player because there simply isn't enough on board memory to make them remotely functional, you're better off with a cheap Fire TV.
Panasonic DMP-BDT110
July 28, 2012
I've had this player for 9 months now and in most respects it is a very nice player. It plays Blu-ray beautifully with very fast load times and it upscales DVD's with surprising quality. But..there is a downside and it has been mentioned in many other reviews. This player has issues streaming Netflix..only Netflix mind you..it streams Amazon, Hulu, Vudu, Youtube and others perfectly. However, with Netflix there is a black flicker that happens at random times, it's only a quick 1-2 second flicker but it's the entire screen blacking in and out and is very annoying. When it flickers is also very very random, sometimes I can spend a whole afternoon streaming back to back episodes/movies and not get one single flicker, then other days it will flicker every 5 minutes and drive me insane to the point I turn it off. There have been 2 firmware updates since I've purchased this player and neither has fixed this problem. I am starting to believe they never will and I might as well give up. I am keeping the player, it's not enough of an issue to make me run out and buy a new one but it is an issue people need to know about before buying it.In the end I give it 3 stars for what it does do well, deducting 1 star for what it doesn't, and 1 more star for Panasonic's unwillingness to correct it.

Not a great DVD player
May 23, 2017
Problems playing discs. Freezes on disc menu and will not play movie. Message that things cannot be done because of disc restrictions. Only shutting it down and restarting fixes these problems. Sometimes will not save where the movie was stopped and starts all over.Bought this because of the Samsung name and am quickly getting tired of trying to figure out how to get around these glitches. Software is up to date.Would not recommend nor buy this model again. First Samsung product I have purchased that did not live up to its name. I get better use out of my old Sony upgrading dvd player and not using Blu Ray.Spent a long time on the phone with a Samsung rep and no matter what we did the player would sometimes work and then not work once shut down and restarted. Now it is in to samsung for repair and I am stuck without a dvd BR player. Good night, I bought this in April!!
Meh disc player, not child resistant

Meh. Slow apps, clunky menu. Ok, not a great pick. Slow, poorly responsive to button commands, unfriendly user interface, gross remote control design. Most importantly, disc door flips open with a the flick of a finger, not child resistant
This is one buggy piece of GARBAGE! the drawer does not open
August 27, 2016
I bought mine in February, of 2016, used from Amazon Marketplace. I unfortunately just started using it a day ago. This is one buggy piece of GARBAGE! the drawer does not open, it thinks it is, then it thinks it is closed.... and it takes for ever to give up then shut down. I often have to pull the power cord to shock it into almost working again when I turn it back on! It freezes up a lot! A very annoying product! Smart Hub works well. Setup is easy. Firmware update was easy. I have a Samsung TV, so I can use the Smart Hub on it already. So, the feature I bought this for is barely usable! To make this useable, I have to unplug it then let it rest then plug it up again to get it to actually open the drawer to insert or remove a disc, then it will function for a while!

Great when it works, but... after a few months developed a jitter on picture and sound when placed on pause. I contacted tech support via an online chat and they had me reset the unit. I reset it and it worked okay for about an hour, then the jitter developed again. So cannot use pause function!

Bad sound output.
November 21, 2015
Sound output on blue rays is terrible. I have to jack the volume way up to hear the dialog then when some action happens the whole house shakes because the surround is too loud. This was never an issue with my prior player and is not an issue with cable. I have tried several different movies.

Freezes Up
March 23, 2017
Not a big fan of this product. I'm not a fan of its menu set up and navigation, however, I can get by those things. The main problem is it freezes up. It particularly does it during shows that have been watched before, and the only way to unfreeze it is to unplug it. It gets really annoying. To the point we ended up putting it away and using our old Blu-Ray which doesn't allow us to watch our Amazon shows.

December 15, 2016
Bought because of 3D and twin HDMI. HDMI will not send video to HDMI splitter so if you have a setup with HDMI to 3D Projector and another HDMI to receiver that's not HDMI compatible you'll get a blue screen. My older Panasonic Blu Ray player DMP-BDT500P handled this perfectly. This one is going back.
Not so SUPERB - See Update
September 18, 2016
Purchased to upgrade the home theater components of a family friend, this Panasonic Blu-ray player replaces a SONY. Its improvements are its 4K support, dual-HDMI outputs, 17” wide chassis and its ease of operation. Besides the HDMI, the Panasonic has optical and coax digital outputs. It was a breeze to set up and its on-screen menu easy to navigate. Overall, it has proven to be perfect for what was required.Note: A new 4K AV receiver and a new 4K HDTV were also purchased to complete the upgrade. No Longer Recommended.UPDATE: Roughly three months after purchase, the Panasonic developed a glitch during Blu-ray play. The screen image will shut off and it’s replaced with a gray “no signal” screen. This happens after 60-80 minutes of play. Pressing the player's "stop" button and then restarting it corrects the screen issue but it can repeat. So far, this problem does not occur during DVD play just Blu-ray. Player is no longer recommended.
Limited streaming capability
April 10, 2016
This is my first "smart" DVD player, so I was not sure what to expect. I chose Panasonic because I have had good luck with Panasonic products. This one not so much. As someone else has mentioned, the documentation is terrible, but I'm a techie, so I was able to figure (nearly) everything out. I am disappointed with the streaming offerings. On my unit I have only Netflix, YouTube, CinemaNow and AccuWeather. I would love Amazon, as I have a Prime subsciption, but that's not a choice here. Netflix works okay, but I can't access YouTube. When I try, I get a "The server's security certificate is not yet valid!" screen. It further tells me that "(My) computer's clock is currently set to Wednesday, June 4, 2014 8:04 PM" and that I should "correct the server's clock and then refresh the page." Unfortunately I can find nowhere in Settings to set the time. I can set the time zone and DST, but not the time itself, so I can't get to YouTube. If anyone can tell me where/how to find this unit's time settings, I would be very appreciative.GaryK
Almost superb....
November 28, 2012
[See update below.] I have had this player for a couple of weeks now and everything seems to work as advertised--very well. I have not tried the 3D feature since I don't have the TV to go with it. I have had one happy surprise and one not so happy one:Very Good: I have found that Netflix movies can be streamed with subtitles using the Panasonic. This is a big plus for me as I don't hear as well as I used to. I have three other Blu-Ray players and none can do this. I had always assumed that the fault was with Netflix. I wonder whether other new players can do this--it is never mentioned in the reviews I have seen.[Update: I had a chance to check out the Sony S590 (competition for the Panasonic player) and found that it, too, can display Netflix subtitles. Maybe this is a standard feature on new players.]Less Good: To my surprise, the remote cannot be programmed to make the volume control work with other-than-Panasonic TV's. Not a major thing, but it is the first time I have encountered this with a peripheral remote. So, one must have two remotes at hand to simply watch a movie. I would have taken off half a star here, but could not.One other piddling issue is that the player is very short, front-to-back, and very light. So component stacking is tough unless this unit is on top. And, the lightness means that it slides around with the lightest touch; I'll have to look for some sticky feet, I guess. On balance, I am very pleased: Quite a performer at the incredibly low cost. If any issues arise over time, I'll do an update.UPDATE: I have had this unit for several months now and it has developed a handful of glitches that force me to take off a couple of stars. On more than a few bluray disks, the machine will freeze at some point in the middle of a movie and refuse to go further. Because I mostly play Netflix disks, lack of pristine surfaces may be an issue, but I am usually unable to see any defects and cleaning does not seem to help. Further, when I try them on my Sony S90, they play perfectly.Lately, I have been having difficulties with streaming as well. The unit cannot seem to find the signal, then, when it does connect, operations slow down to a crawl. Factory resets, power-cycling, etc. are hit-or-miss solutions.I am leaving two stars because the unit is not entirely worthless; just frustrating. So far, it still plays regular DVD's just fine and the streaming functions work well about two-thirds of the time.In short, I am much less happy with the Panasonic than I was at first. This is even worse because the Sony S90 (bought about a month later and used considerably more) continues to work so well. If you are determined to have this player, spring for the Amazon two-year warranty for an extra $20. The manufacturer's warranty is pretty much worthless after 90 days.
Nice, but not for streaming vids
May 7, 2012
The predecessor to the Panasonic 220 (Panasonic 210) would cause the screen to go dark for a moment while re-buffering and it would then continue displaying. I originally thought the new version ie the 220, would be the solution to wirelessly streaming Netflix vids as it initially worked well for me. In fact, I liked it so much I bought a 2nd one for the BR. Either I was lucky in the beginning, the most recent firmware update has a nasty glitch, my ISP needs a swift kick in the pants, Panasonic needs one or all of the above. At 10 megs down, this player should stream HD vids w/o a problem as Netflix recommends a minimum of 5 megs down for HD. Unfortunately, this player drops the signal on average 1 X every 40 - 45 minutes. And when that happens with the Panasonic 220, it freezes the device and you need to unplug the player to re-boot it. Netflix doesn't have a solution for this problem generally other than suggesting I try lowering the streaming image quality globally via their website. Interesting sidebar: I have an older, albeit much clunkier Samsung DVD Blu-Ray player (P1600), that seems to stream wirelessly w/o incident. However, I recently tried a newer Samsung Blu-Ray player (BD5500) and it re-buffered Netflix HD vids constantly. That said, the Panasonic 220 has an easy set-up protocol, quite a few apps pre-installed & very nice image quality. But if streaming HD vids is a goal, it appears Panasonic (not to mention Samsung) may have taken a technological step backwards with the 220.

The blue ray shuts itself and stops playing.
You're garbage.

I've only had this blu ray for 3 months. It is no longer working. Will not turn on. Thanks Samsung. You're garbage.
NO UPSCALE UNLESS YOU HAVE A SAMSUNG "UHD 4K" TV
June 16, 2017
The so-called "upscaling" is useless unless you have a "UHD 4K" Samsung. The box clearly states that right on the front but the description omits that very important fact. We returned ours unopened and bought a Samsung BDJ-5900 from Amazon that works very well and is much lower priced.

This Blu-ray worked fine for about 3 weeks and then went into a constant on/off/on/off mode. Samsung service was no help at all. Fortunately Amazon has a great return policy and I was able to get my money back.

Buyer Beware!
October 14, 2017
I purchased this Blu Ray 2 months ago and at that time the reviews were pretty good. After the problems began, I checked the Amazon reviews again and I was shocked to see that they included virtually the same issues as mine. After checking the Panasonic Warranty info with Amazon and the Panasonic website, I realized that Panasonic is only going to attempt to "fix" the Blu Ray during the year warranty. (I guess the days are over when companies would REPLACE defective merchandise.) So my problems were the same as listed by many others. A lot of buffering, during Netflix streaming mostly. We would go to another room and Netflix would play just fine. Then recently, the screen just went to black. We rebooted and it eventually came back but there are still the same buffering issues with movies freezing and stopping constantly during play. Since the seller here on Amazon only provides a month or so to return the unit, we are out the hundred bucks we paid after two months. Time to get another Blu Ray and it WON'T be Panasonic.
DO NOT BUY

This is just a paper weight and I would not recommend this blue ray player to anybody. First, it is painfully slow to respond, second there is always buffering while watching Netflix (my other Sony blue ray has no issues) and third remote works very poorly (even after changing batteries.). Do yourself a favor and do not buy. I will be returning as usage is intermittent and performance of player is just garbage.
Item worked great while it was under warranty (90 Days)
September 20, 2016
Item worked great while it was under warranty (90 Days). As soon as warranty was up, item started freezing and wouldn't respond other than unplugging it. Freezes on old and new dvd and blu-ray. Panasonic wants to charge $170 to repair it being 10 days out of warranty. Looks like I'll be buying another unit. I'll also never be buying Panasonic due to their poor customer service.
Lockups galore, slow menu recognition, great picture when it worked
July 13, 2016
This blue-ray player keeps kicking me out of Netflix randomly, requires frequent re-sign-in, and has issues transitioning from blue ray disc player back to streaming Netflix. Required multiple times daily to be unplugged and rebooted in order to normalize again (a 10 minute process). It was too frustrating so I had to return it. Another negative is the slow to respond remote and menu commands. On the plus side it was excellent when it worked and I really enjoyed the picture quality. But I'd rather watch in standard def than deal with the frequent hanging up of this unit.
Poor Quality
June 15, 2016
I have a previous version of this product and it has worked great for years, but this is a dud. Unfortunately, I went out of town after I ordered it, and by the time I realized it was a dud, the 30 days to return it had passed. The button to eject does not work, and it ejects only sporadically with the remote. The machine locks up randomly and will not turn on. It is a piece of junk. Save your money.
Useless for streaming content
May 16, 2016
This is a review for the Panasonic Smart Network Blu-Ray Disc Player DMP-BD93 (Black), WiFi.As a happy user of both a Panasonic Plasma TV and Blu-Ray player, I ordered this because I wanted something that I could use to stream Amazon Prime content with + I wanted a player that would start-up faster, my only issue with my current player. The player looked very cheap, especially compared to my old Panasonic Player.I have not tried using it as a player, as the user interface for watching streaming content was very clumsy, and required frequent re-boots because it became totally unresponsive to commands from the remote controller. Once I got it finally to stream something, it streamed only in very low resolution, and stopped streaming at all after just a few minutes. Returned it, and got a Amazon Fire TV instead. What a difference! Very intuitive and responsive user interface, at least as good as Apple TV, and high resolution streaming with no interruptions. Guess I will live a little longer with the slow, but otherwise working fine, old Blu-Ray player in combination with the Fire TV.
