learning curve , but once you get it (controls) great fun , get some white glue , if you let it crash , it will crack or bend the foam body , with that said pretty durable and repairable........
Fun!!!

Keep On Flying....
July 13, 2016
This is my third (3) quadcopter and it actually Flew. I bought a tiny quadcopter called Flying 3D and all it did was flip over. That was two years ago and took it out recently from storage. Two weeks ago I found a Sharper Image drone in my backyard. A month before that, I found an RC airplane from HobbyKing in the front yard. My house is a place where drones go to die, it seems?

The SYMA X5C is a good quadcopter and I'm having loads of fun piloting it. I took off the camera and landing skids to make it lighter and save battery life. While playing with it, I lost control and it landed the dog pool. I quickly gave it full throttle and it shot up high and landed on the roof. The lights were still flashing so I got a ladder and grabbed it. It no longer worked. So, I got a can of Zero Residue Cleaner and sprayed the electronics and waited til morning for it to dry. Lo and behold, it still works. To be honest, what I think happened was the battery died when I gave it full throttle and crash landed on the roof. It was wet from the water, but still, it works. Many times when things like that happen, it's usually a Gonner.

It's very light and tough. One of my complaints is that it's not too stable in the wind. I practice in the wind and keep it a low hover in my backyard. If anything, the wind makes me a better pilot since I have to concentrate on the controls and adjust the trim. The Trim controls for this kind of windy conditions are useless. I understand that the newer version called the X5C-1, has addressed the stability issue with some kind of software upgrade as I watched on a Youtube video. I did not take any pictures and the manual does not have good English spelling or Grammer to give good instructions. I also did not take any pics for the review since there are so many. I'll add a stock image...

Enjoy and Keep On Flying.
Syma X5C, a well thought out product.

I’ve been a droner for about two months. I caution you, the lifestyle is a hive of responsibilities. You hold the controller, pushing levers, nudging buttons, signaling the computer to tell the four motors to go or not, the results are addictive. Alas, s*** happens, and you quickly learn this sport takes commitment. I landed my first in the pond, relieved to see its lights flashing from beneath the surface, the camera was toast, but after I blew the drone dry, it lifted right off. I have hit things and landed hard, but the plastic is forgiving and the quadcopter very light, so you don’t have to worry much about breaking it. My son-in-law was ready to climb the one hundred-fifty foot fir tree where a hundred feet up, he landed my first. The X5C was supposed to have a ‘headless’ mode but the copter did not go the way Matthew was directing it. We waited weeks for the wind to blow the copter down. “The prop guards are the problem,” I told my wife. “There is no way that drone would still be in the tree if I had taken those damn hooks off.”

I bought another drone thinking, “prop guards, I don’t need no stinkin’ prop guards.” I enjoyed flying light, eventually dismounting the camera from the battery hatch. The problem, once it revealed itself, was prop guards protect the motors from burning out. Occasionally the drone goes down over a hill, and even though you have pulled the throttle to zero it doesn’t get the message and the propeller, lodged against a bush branch, tries to spin, but can’t. I ordered online a pair of replacement motors, getting one that spins clockwise and one counterclockwise (use the motor with the same colored wires as the one that burned out.)

I’ve replaced two motors. The drone body separates into two pieces, that snap together, but nonetheless are secured with twenty tiny screws. With the body split, the circuit board is available for the motor replacement. I have a magnifying glass on my helping hands that simplifies the soldering. Note the position of the two colored wires. Touch the spot with the iron where a wire attaches and pull gently, the wire should pull out. After similarly removing the second wire, unthread the bad motor from the motor mount and rethread the new motor. Touch the iron to the solder spot, it should liquefy quickly, insert the motor wire and withdraw the iron. After a second, pull the wire, if it is firmly attached you may do the same with the second wire. Test the new motor’s function before screwing the twenty tiny screws.

Body screws are shorter than prop guard screws and propeller screws. Protect your screws! A propeller without a long enough screw lifts, leaving the copter behind. I tried drilling a prop out so that a shorter screw might embed, but went clean through. I’ve ordered two screw replacement kits, hoping one might arrive faster than the other. Sadly both (one E-bay, one BangGood) ship from China, which can take awhile.

If you can manage to keep a drone flying and out of trouble you are going to want charged batteries. I bought a USB device with four batteries and the ability to charge them all simultaneously. I am very happy with it. Be cautioned though, it is possible to overwork a drone, by operating it continuously with fresh batteries, without giving the motors a chance to cool down.

I have a grassy knoll that faces into the wind and enjoy flying when it's windy, be careful though, I lost one the day I received it when the wind carried it off into the forest. When the props are spinning the drone catches wind like a kite, throttle off and it drops quickly. Before flying in windy conditions be sure your battery is fully charged, and switch the X5C to high speed by pressing the appropriate button on the controller.

I love the high techness of the sport, combined with the participatory requirement of the user (but then I’m cheap, ain’t going to buy a new copter when it only needs a replacement motor.)

Update 2/2016 The copter was blown out of the tree nine months later. I put a charged battery in it and it worked flawlessly.
Great Quadcopter!

Wow! Where do I start...
PROS: This SYMA X5C-1 is amazing! I'm new to the Quadcopter World. I got this Flyer as a gift. After I un-boxed it and started flying and video taping with it, I can't get enough of it! I give it 5 stars even though it took 30 days to get it. It is well worth it. If you have any second thoughts you can watch "QuadCopter 101" on YouTube. Everything he shows is exactly what you. get.
" Also took some photos" Ask you can see I have my own Pilot and Service Team...LOL

Cons: NONE
I'm very happy with this drone
January 29, 2015
I'm very happy with this drone! I started with a Cheerson CX-10 and then bought 3 more of those for my family. I then upgraded to a Parrot AR 2.0. I have mixed feelings about the AR. Not too long after getting the AR, I saw this inexpensive drone and, based on positive reviews, decided to give it a try. This is now my favorite BY FAR! It's very simple and light. It's easy to fly and takes crashes very well. The batteries are cheap and multi-battery chargers are available so you can fly just about as long as you can stand it. The camera is so-so but, come on, this is a super cheap drone.

I'm seeing several complaints from buyers claiming they did not get the X5C-1 that they ordered. Keep in mind, the X5C-1 does NOT say X5C-1 on the label. If the drone is labeled "X5C" with the X in red font and 2.4G in red font, it's the X5C-1. The X5C is labeled "X5" or "X5C", all in black font along with the 2.4G.

Do a quick Google search for "syma x5c vs x5c-1" and you will find some videos that show the various models side-by-side.
Nice quadcopter to enjoy for not that much money!
January 3, 2015
This is an incredible quad for the money. The camera is about what you could expect for 2MPs, but seriously for 65 bucks, that's ok. I will probably upgrade the camera to a 808 #16 sometime, but it takes great video for just playing around. I will attach a couple of videos to show what it can do. Also, I want to say that if the original version had the range issues some complained about, this HAS been fixed. As you will see in the video, I went at least 200 ft, which is about as high as you can fly this and still see it. Also, you sorta get two quads in one. You can have a larger version with the prop guards, landing skids, and camera attached. It flies quite well in this form, but if you take of the guards, skids, and camera, it flies faster. You can really have a lot of fun with it this way. My only complaint about its flight performance is that its yaw rate is kinda slow, but its a video platform, so it's not a big deal. Also, you can get much longer flights with a 650 Mah battery. With the quad stripped down in 20 degree weather, I got about 10:30 out of it! I bet it would go longer on a warm day, but I can't say until March.

I recommend for anyone starting their ride into flying drones it works well. Flies easy. cheap to replace or fix if necessary.
Fun, cheap, and tough enough!
July 22, 2015
I know next to nothing about quads, other than I wanted one. I was originally looking at the high-end models with bells, whistles, and buzzers. Then I read a review that changed my perspective. The basic idea was, did I want to learn (crash) on a $1,200 purchase....or a $40 purchase. I swallowed my pride and opted for the low-cost ride. One of my better life-choices to date. I have crashed this thing A LOT! I've had to order several little replacement these-and-those, but the meat of this thing has survived every crash. I've learned a ton about piloting these things and will probably be ready to upgrade in the next year. Meanwhile, I've been having a blast learning to roll, bank, accelerate, etc.

If you're shopping for your first quad, this would be a mighty fine choice! Learn on the cheap, with a quad that can still perform above your ability level for the first few weeks.

This is my first quad copter and I couldn't be happier. After much research I decided to purchase the Syma X5c-1 as an entry level quad copter. The pros: very easy to learn, handles great, camera is not bad for the price, very sturdy, takes a lot of abuse. The Cons: not always stable enough to keep it hovering in one place, the camera angle takes some getting used to. Overall I would recommend this as a beginning level quad copter.
confused! x5c explorer box???
January 18, 2015
Good range and flies like a dream! just alittle confused. It came in the x5c explorer box but the labeling on the quad is identical to the x5c-1 and controller does have the camera next to left joystick. would give it five stars if I was sure it is the X5c-1.
Good
January 3, 2015
Working as expected. The camera looks very grainy in low light conditions. The quality is pretty good outside. At times the calibration is off and doesn't fix immediately. Very good for the price and pretty durable with all the guards on the blades.

Great beginner quad. Limited range, after easy modification range has doubled. HD camera is poor quality. Otherwise overall satisfied for the price.
great for the price
February 22, 2015
This thing is great, I have never flew a quad before an it was so easy to pick up when in a big room or outside. I just wish it had a longer flight time an longer distance but hey for 60$ can't go wrong. And the company was very nice aiding me in tracking. Update after using it a week or so and Only getting one good video off the camera, it stopped holding in the SD card an just keeps pushing it out. It still flys but I wanted the camera too.

Knockoff.
June 12, 2015
This is a knockoff of a Syma X5C. Nowhere on the box does the brand name "Syma" appear!
The controller is loose the power switch, and trims rattle. I own a real "Syma X5C" this is far from it!
This came without a manual. It says "upgraded version" on the box,
I don't think so!
Quality issues
May 9, 2015
I ordered this quad copter Feb 6th. It arrived within about 3 weeks. It flies OK (one motor is sluggish), when I can get the remote and the quad to sync properly. The camera has never worked. The vendor offered to send a new camera to try, but it's now May 9th and still no camera. When I questioned the sync issue I was asked to determine if it was the remote or the quad. Without another complete unit or some pretty elaborate test equipment I'm not sure how I am suppose to troubleshoot a problem like this.

New camera arrived-still does not function.

The "frame" that looks like a jet is very bendable foam. The blades continually were getting caught around the foam. The plane only lasted 2 days before 2 blades broke and both of the replacement blades. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT

Not a good product!! Not what the discription was to be!
September 3, 2015
Not what the discription said, the remote does not have a lcd display. When the battery was charged up it is very difficult to place battery into drone. When it was turned on all it did was flash the lights and the remote did nothing. I'm returning it and I very dissappointed!! I purchased this for my sons birthday and it abosolutly was a bust! He was very excited and then very disappointed when it would do nothing but flash the lights and the remote control was not what it was said to be!! Bad product!!
Cool toy....until it breaks down!
August 20, 2015
My son loves this drone! But it is a money pit! We ordered one and it quit working about a week later. But my son loved it so much that we decided to return it, order another one and give it another chance. When that one broke down, it was just because of a small part that we were able to order from Amazon as well. But then it was another part, and another part and so on. Now, 6 weeks later, it is not working, it is too late to return it and we have wasted about $100. Definitely not worth it!

All the other motors work fine and the factory reset did not fix
January 16, 2015
One of the motors died after about 5 flights. All the other motors work fine and the factory reset did not fix. Frustrating.

I am editing this review because I ordered two more of these. One came in and flies like a champ. It's perfect. The other one is doing the same thing, struggles to say up and seems like the motor will go bad soon. These are fun if they work but if one of the motors is bad it really sucks to fly. I recommend buying at least two, one to fly and one for replacement parts.
