Lot's of fun for the newbie
December 18, 2016
I bought this as a Christmas present for my ten year old son. Christmas came early this year so we spent the day playing with it, or maybe I should say about an hour and a half. I bought four extra batteries so we have a total of five. The charge on the battery lasts about 15 minutes which drops to less than ten if you're recording video the whole time. It took less than five minutes to learn how to control on a breezy day. You'll definitely want to have a wide open area when you're first learning it though. Be sure to set the trims properly for the most enjoyment when flying. He absolutely enjoyed flying the thing and taking video....even more-so than his new Redcat Racing Blackout XTE RC truck. He's already talking about upgrading to a better drone, but this one is great for learning.Pros:-Easy enough for a ten year old to learn in under five minutes.-Decent video, not the best quality but still enjoyable to watch.-Somewhat durable, survived a few crash landings.-Comes with two spare blades.A few cons to note:-The battery door is flimsy and keeps wanting to open.-We lost one of the green covers for the light. But it survive a few crash landings from a height of about fifteen feet. A few spares should be thrown in with the packaging. All in all he's happy, so I'm happy.
Good starter drone.

I've been interested in drones for a while, especially camera/video drones but since I had never flown one I didn't want to spend a lot of money on one just to destroy it while learning to operate it so I went with a lower priced one, while I've only flown it twice outside due to the weather conditions it has survived an encounter with the bumper of a parked car as well as several other hard landings, so I can safely say this is a good drone for a beginner.
Stuck in a Tree!
August 3, 2016
Hello!Have you ever wondered what it would like to get this product stuck in a tree? Well, let me tell you! It is no easy feet (pardon my pun). On my first day of owning this little drone, I got it stuck in my huge mulberry tree in the middle of the country with no hopes of getting it down. I tried everything that I could think of... branches, sticks, balls, maneuvering of the drone itself, etc. I gave up and began thinking that this would be an excellent tree decoration for winter with its white and red colors. I also considered that if I ever did get it down, I would have a broken drone that was not worth the trouble of repairing or replacing. This was not so! It spent a couple of days up there hanging around feeling the breeze. It went through wind, rain, and thunderstorm, and still was kicking. I surely felt that it would plummet to its death, but thanks to my user error in keeping the propeller guards on outside (by the way, don't do that), it kept swinging in the tree. Eventually the storms and wind knocked the thing to an area of the tree that I could get at it with a stick. I got it out of my tree, and to my surprise, it was still in pretty good shape. I had bought extra batteries with it that were mentioned in other reviews. I charged one up, and went to see if this drone would fly again. It flew alright! This is a testament to its sturdy design (despite it being made of lightweight plastic). Its capability of withstanding storms, winds, trees, and me throwing things at it! I have never owned a drone before so I didn't quite know what I was doing. I know what to do now, and I couldn't be happier with this product. I recommend flying it inside for a little bit if you have a large empty space to get a grip on flight if you have never owned one or doing it outside at lower levels. What got me into this mess was that I wanted to see what kind of range it had, and by the way, the range is excellent! Just don't let a huge wind gust throw you off track and get it stuck in a tree!Or you might find yourself like me, stuck in one!
The coolest toy ever!!!!!!!!!!!!
December 8, 2015
This is a very fun and interesting toy. This can be for a adolescent or an adult. I bought this for one of the kids and I love it so much I will be buying one and I'm 32 years old! This thing has power and really is an exceptional product. I was really impressed by the way the quadcopter performed. Not to mention it comes with extra blades and a micro SD card to record pictures on and a flash drive to plug it into a pc or mac. This is a product that I would proudly recommend to anyone. I would fly it outside and avoid the house though. Its powerful and fun! A must have!
Felt like a kid again
December 3, 2015
When I was younger I remember getting a helicopter for christmas that was attached to a line and would go in circles. This quadcopter brings back all those memories. Thank you Akaso. This was so much fun, I bought 2 more for my nephews. Do not make a mistake like me and have to wait on the one battery to charge, make sure you buy more battery's when ordering this, because battery life is around 5 to 7 minutes. I just ordered 8 more battery's and a multi charger. I have never flown a drone before and it was fairly easy to pick up on the do's and don'ts. So far it has not failed me, I have run this into trees, bushes, side of house, and it still keeps going. With the blade guards on it, it is tuff. If you want more battery life, do not use the camera. I just took it off. I would say it is a great beginners quadcopter. Don't fly without blade guards though, I found out the hard way when i flew it into my hand. Those blades hurt!!! I was hard headed and did not read the instructions first. Read the instructions.
Can't be beat for a bargain deal an a ton of fun!

WOW! I have has several small remote control helicopters! that cost as much as $40-$50. but this little Quad blows them away. I have never had so much fun with a flying R.C. as I have with this! the instructions and remote are easy to learn. after I figured out that the most important step is to turn on the drone and remote with the drone sitting on the most level surface possible "It has a self calibrating and gyroscope." By my third flight it felt as if I had almost mastered the controls, The average battery ran from 7.5 minutes on the first flight using the video capture the whole time. to over 10 minutes only taking a few snap shots. The camera is mounted on the battery door and is done so in such a way that with the removal of a few screws and simply unplugging the lead you could fly without the extra weight of the camera if wanted. The trick mode is awesome, bump the trick button and flip the control stick in any direction and the Quadrcopter will do a barrel roll/360 degree flip in that/any direction. before ordering I did lots of research and for my first this has far exceeded my expectations especially for the price. when I ordered I also ordered a repair kit for all the landing gear, bumper gear. props. motors, and gearboxes for less than $10.00, I also ordered a 4-battery and charger kit. for less than $18.00 so for less than $80.00 I have an awesome toy great for an afternoon of entertainment! also was able to install a video player through the Google App store and plug the micro S.D. card directly into my smart phone and watch the video instantly in the field !!

Received package partially damaged but product appeared undamaged. First UAS for family. Very easy assembly. The battery compartment is poorly designed and does not stay closed. We still have lots of practice but the kids are loving it so far. Pretty easy controller to understand. First practice lasted about 15 minutes before battery died.
Great Drone! Tons of Fun!
December 7, 2016
Been flying this little guy for over a year now. DEFINITELY worth the price. I purchased extra batteries and a charger from an RC hobby store and have learned advanced tricks like triple flips and forced bank turns. Ive crashed the shit out of this little drone. Once full tilt into my truck, another time i got it caught 30 ft up in a tree and after i shook it out and let it fall to the ground it took off and flew without wvwn needing trim adjustment. Only problem ive had was the little blade guards would sometimes rub the rotors during advanced maneuvers. A little bending by hand seemes to solve the problem twmporarily but i used my heat gun to softwn the plastic and permanently reshape them. I also (covering the vent holes wigh tape) spray painted half of the drone fluorescent orange so I can see the orientation better at distance. "EZ mode" does not work at all and is a great way to lose control of your drone. Every time the drone gets low on battery the "EZ mode" fomes on autmatically. Be quick and toggle it back off using the button and youll be good to go. I never used the camera and took it of immediately. I'd assume it produces a shaky low resolution image and really isnt worth the time to use.
Recommended for all beginners, easy to learn quadcopter
December 26, 2015
So far, so good. We've only been using this 2 days so far. I will continue to update in the future if we experience any changes or further problems, not mentioned in this review. This was a gift for our 12 year old son for Christmas. He loves it. I would recommend that if this is purchased for a child, that you have an adult start helping him/her out at first, until they get the hang of it on their own.1.) Price: worth every penny that we spent. List price is $99.99 and we purchased it for 1/2 that price.2.) Items included: Quadcopter and a controller (simple assembly required), a battery, a memory card for the camera, a USB card reader to view your videos with a USB card, replacement blades, and even a tiny screwdriver.3.) Quadcopter: Great for beginners. Easy to follow instructions and easy to learn controller. My think my son already mastered the controller, including the flip / loop function. It is super stable, he loves to throw it air to start his own launch. It has landed on our roof a couple of times upside down, when it lands this way -- it cannot fly, so we had to get it out down from there). He has managed to keep his distance from getting it stuck in any trees (keeping our fingers crossed).4.) Battery: The battery it comes with has already been charged. Otherwise it takes 90 minutes to charge, and lasts is supposed to last 7 minutes of fly time. However, it probably lasts about 10 minutes of fly time. We will be purchasing another battery as a backup, that allows to fly it twice as long.5.) Camera: We still have yet to figure out the camera; we tried to record and view video but it says: "No items to display." We are not sure what we are doing wrong or if we just have a bad USB card, a non-working camera, etc. I will keep you posted.Overall, I recommend the AKASO Quadcopter Drone.
Great First Drone!
December 24, 2015
This is a great drone for beginners. It's not too hard to figure out how to fly it, but once you get the hang of it, it flies pretty good. Havent used the camera yet, I want to get better at using the remote control first. I bought extra propellers just in case I damaged it while I'm practicing. So far I haven't damaged it, the drone is pretty sturdy, but you need to make sure you have enough room to fly so you don't break things around the house. Oh yeah, you should fly it out side but its snowing and cold outside and I wasn't going to wait til summer. My only complaint is, they only give you basic directions, so you got to learn most of it on your own.
Very good beginner level quadcopter.
December 14, 2015
I bought this because it was under $50 and I wanted to learn to fly a quadcopter without risking too big of a loss. I have crashed it several times while learning to fly and it either stabilizes itself or just lands and is ready to take off again. I've even got it stuck in a tree and, after hitting it down with a softball, it still flies just fine. The only problem I've run into is that sometimes when I turn it on, it doesn't sync with transmitter so I just have to turn it on a couple times until it works. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a cheap way to learn to fly. It has 3 speeds, beginner mode, video recording, auto flipping, and many more features.
Fun gadget!
October 26, 2015
This was my first real journey into the RC world and it didn't disappoint. Assembly was pretty simple and within about 10 minutes, I was ready to fly. The controls took some getting used to, but after several flights, I'm starting to get the hang of it and its a lot of fun. The light weight of the drone is both a positive and a negative--Its light enough that crashing it doesn't really harm or damage it, but it will also get carried by the wind and will drift whichever way its blowing (some of that can be compensated by the flight controls) The camera works well enough and as long as you aren't expecting super-high-clear-crisp-HD-resolution you won't have an issue. Battery life could be longer, but it seems on par with most of the drones I looked at. I would highly recommend getting extra batteries--that 10 minutes of flight time goes by quick!Overall, its not without its imperfections, but for the price its definitely worth it. It really is a lot of fun to fly.

Love it
September 14, 2016
This is great for a newbie like me. It was inexpensive, so if I did crash it right away, I'd be disappointed but not devastated. I ordered 2 4 packs of extra batteries with chargers because I didn't think 10 minutes of flight time was going to be fun. So far, I haven't had enough time to fly the thing for more than 20 to 30 minutes anyway, so it wasn't necessary to have all of those extra batteries, but I'm glad I did get them because as I get better at controlling this thing I'm planning to use it in longer sessions. I'd read many reviews and saw many videos of this thing before I bought it. My controller is set up differently than the ones I'd seen, but it's easy to figure out. I recommend a large open field for beginners. I've had some close calls with getting it stuck in trees and on a neighbors roof, but fortunately, I was able to retrieve it from the tree and actually it "landed" on the roof, so I was able to fly it off. Great fun for all ages and skill levels. I'm new to this hobby, but I see this as a great unit that will last a long time for me. Most reviews I read say it feels cheap and fragile. Ok, it's plastic. It's lightweight to make it functional to fly. Use the blade guards. They don't add much weight and they work. The tiny screws that hold the landing gear on are very small and I recommend a drop of glue on them as you're putting them in. I'd rather use the landing gear than land it on the camera, but that's just me. Obviously, if you're going to take off the lending gear you won't want to glue it on, but I'm planning to keep it on. The camera is ok, not hd in my opinion but it's cool to see aerial video of my neighborhood. I'm still trying to figure out the camera. I managed to take some still pics and video, but all were by accident. I've only flown the thing 4 or 5 times and really was more concerned with not crashing it and getting used to controlling it more than taking pictures and videos. Overall, I love it. It's fun and easy to fly and it didn't break the bank. I recommend this thing to anyone considering getting into the hobby. The free offer of a battery or mini sd card by posting a review and sending in a form is apparently a scam. Instructions were to review and mail in form and my free gift would arrive within 7 days. It's been a month and no free gift.
Must calibrate and trim EVERY FLIGHT! Squirrleyflier!
June 13, 2016
This quad flies a little squirrley. I have a syma x5sc that is much more stable than this. If you don't calibrate the accelerometer( both sticks down and to left) it is unstable. And if you don't trim the quad before you fly it pulls hard off center and won't hover. They call this an x5c but I don't believe this is a rebranded syma x5c. The plastic is cheaper than a syma and so are the electronics. For a beginner I DO NOT recommend this quad. Get a syma x11(much more stable, better flier) or pay 15 more for a real syma x5c. If this is all you can afford then get it just be sure to calibrate and trim before each flight. Also, the controller is really cheap feeling and performing.I would like to edit my review now that I have a few more flights. I was a little hard on the akaso in my first review so I'd like to say a couple good things about it now 1. Excellent night flier. The body is translucent so the LEDs light up the quad from inside. 2. Once trimmed and without prop guards its a quick flier. 3. Excellent yaw rate in expert mode. 4. Good range for price. One more strange thing is that if you yaw 20 degrees it seems to come back 3-5 degrees on its own. Strange.
AKASO Drone Review
February 10, 2016
This is the first drone I've purchased, so my review is based solely on visual aesthetics, physical design, and it's capabilities.First, I bought this gift as a present for my brother for his birthday - it arrived on time, and was in great condition. He was very excited to fly it. Ours did not come charged, so we had to wait about an hour and a half for it to charge.Pros -The drone comes with a helpful manual, and is very easy to fly. It is also quite fun - my brother had a blast learning how to use it.It's a good product and isn't very expensive.Cons -The drone is really lightweight, so its not a good idea to fly it outside when it's windy. It's also made of a cheap plastic. The battery life of this drone is really short - only 7 minutes. It would be better if the company could find a way to extend the battery life. The camera on the drone is not very good. My brother does not bother to use it because the quality of the camera is low.
Another this that would be nice is to have just a little more protection around ...
January 6, 2016
We bought this for our 8 year old. Its probably a little more advanced than he should have but the price was right. Its just an okay product. The battery life versus charge time is ridiculous, we also have a Syma S107 and that charges in a third of time and has twice the flight time. Instructions claim 5-7 mins. flight time, that is way off, we are lucky to get 3 mins following all the proper battery protocols. For as light as it is they should just include a bigger battery. Also the instructions refer to specification for a wall charger but they only include the USB cable, it should come with the wall charger. Another this that would be nice is to have just a little more protection around the blades but it isnt totally necessary. Other than those flaws its a decent little drone for the price. It flies smooth and its semi easy to control, plus the controller has 3 levels you can set depending on your flying skills. All and all me son is happy with it and thats what really matters.
Battery issues
November 1, 2015
Instructions did not say if copter battery comes with a full charge. When I tried to charge it, the indicator light never changed from red and the battery never did charge!

The video doesn't work and the camera image quality is not good... Only giving this 3 stars because it is fun to fly, but I bought it to take videos and pictures of my property......

Ok, Bearings burned out really quick, twice now. You get what you pay for. I was expecting more. The thing will not hover straight, even though we have tried to trim it. I would not buy this again.
Flies well ... when it flies.
February 23, 2017
Decent value for the money, flies well. Problems: (1) The battery must be removed to charge, and the charge plug is the size of a gnat. (2) Camera quit working; (3) Spare parts are hard to come by when it breaks. It's a nice introduction to the wonderful world of drones, but not one you'll be flying for more than 6 months or so.
Quality Not There
March 17, 2016
I bought the AKASO X5C from GW-Store through Amazon. They obviously sent me a used or returned one because the camera didn't work correctly and it had a big black skid-mark on it due to a crash. There were screws missing and the copter wasn't even the same as on the box. It had open gears on the bottom like the older drones. Unfortunately, I couldn't return it because I'm stationed outside the US. I contacted GW-Store and they appeared to be open to negotiate some compensation but then they just took it upon themselves to send me a new camera to wash their hands of me - a camera that probably cost them less then $5.With that being said, I wasn't impressed with the copter itself. Sure its fun but so is a paper airplane. I really had to tack it to get it to fly strait up and hoover. It doesn't save the tack so you have to redo it every time you turn the copter on or off. As mentioned the camera did not work properly. I tried to take a lot of pictures and videos but most of the time they didn't appear. The pictures that did appear were blurry and useless. The videos were OK as long as they were taken in good light. The camera was just too unpredictable. While flying the lift would sometimes stop working, the controller stick would become slack and the copter would fall even when it wasn't that far away. The headless mode didn't seem to work either. I'd press the button and the controller would just beep but the copter performed the same way. The AKASO is made of thin cheap plastic which is probably good because it's light weight. However, the parts don't fit together well. The battery door doesn't close well and the blade protectors come off.Like I said, it's still fun to fly. I flew it in a strong wind and it did well. I'd fly forward and then let the wind drift it back. The flight times were good. I didn't time them but they give you time to have some fun. After only about 15 flights one of the motors died. You have to give the prop a push to get it going now. So, the $50 toy is in the hanger until parts arrive. To be honest, that may have been my fault. I popped in battery after battery and didn't give the motors much time to cool down.If your looking for a drone be careful who you buy from. Customers return poor quality ones, like this one, and some stores try and resell them as new. I don't recommend this one. I bought it mainly for the camera and the headless mode. Both didn't work and the basic quality just doesn't make it worth while.04/05/16: Motors continue to fry with little fly time and camera is very unreliable. The best flight videos always seem to corrupt. I spend as much time fixing this thing as flying it. Very frustrating.
Super Bummed
January 3, 2016
Bought this drone at a great price for xmas for my son. My son opened it on xmas day and ran outside to fly it. As soon as he started flying I noticed the balance was way off and no matter what you did with the remote control it flew in one direction, no hovering by just hitting the power. I read the directions and noticed you could balance the drone by increasing/decreasing the power to each propeller. But the remote control would not respond. I tried for hours to get it to work and I thought for sure I was doing something wrong. I started watching videos on the this particular drone and noticed in each video the controller was different. I hate to assume this but I am guessing the manufacturer or seller swapped out controls for a cheaper version when they put this drone on sale for the holidays. If true shame on you. I am returning this drone for a different one. My son and I are terribly disappointed.
Good experience initially but ran into issues.
December 27, 2015
My wife got me the x5c for Christmas. In the beginning of using the quadcopter I had no issues. I was pretty impressed it the x5c. Being that it was my first quadcopter I learned quickly that this thing can take damage. I got it stuck in multiple trees and several hard landings. It even landed in a puddle of water. I was sure it was done, but after it dried it flew like nothing ever happened. After a week of having the x5c I started to run into problems. One day I was flying with no issues, the next day I was having motor issues with one of the propellers. It was difficult to control and wouldn't go more than 10 feet off the ground. After checking the propellers, three would spin freely and the fourth you could tell there was friction. The motor was bad. I contacted the Tablet Express and they sent me a new x5c (just the quadcopter, not the controller) within 2 days. Unfortunately I had issues with that quadcopter right out of the box. I could not get the controller to sync with the x5c, but the controller would still sync with the damaged x5c, so I know it wasn't a faulty controller. After going back and forth with tech support on potential issues they did not have a solution. They told me they could send another replacement or get my money back. I chose the refund. If you have a x5c that is fully functioning then it is a great little machine that seems durable. Unfortunately after a motor going bad and having issues with the replacement sent to me, I decided to move on. After reading other reviews, I decided to order a Hubsan 4X.
I'm not sure if I just got a bad one, but I dont advise buying this just ...
December 27, 2015
I got this for someone as a Christmas gift. He took it out and set it up according to the instructions provided. The first time he tried to fly it, it pulled to one side so he tried adjusting the "trim". Never did get it trimmed properly as it pulled one way or the other no matter what. Yes, he did follow the instructions to get it trimmed. He has other quadcopters that he was able to trim properly, but NOT this one. By the time he got it somewhat trimmed, the battery died.He charged the battery according to instructions and tried again. This time, when he powered everything one, the blades started spinning for about 5 seconds then stopped. It never even made it off the ground! He thought maybe the batteries really werent charged so he tried charging them again. No go. This thing was dead.So overall, he got to use this item for about 6-7 minutes which were spent trying to get it trimmed properly.I'm not sure if I just got a bad one, but I dont advise buying this just in case.

Ok, let me start by saying you get what you pay for. $50...don't expect much. Well don't, it hard to fly, the blade guards are an absolute joke..they hit the props, had to keep bending them down. The landing skids kept falling off. Just feels cheap, again I know you get what you pay for, well u my opinion, you dont. Bought sky viper s1700 from target for same money, way better for the money, not even a fair comparison, but sky viper doesn't have camera, but camera on this drone was useless anyway. Hope this helps...don't waist your money, literally gave drone away.
Not worth it
October 16, 2016
Not worth the money. propeller stopped working with in minutes of trying to play with it. The box showed up damages and it looked like the drone had been used. I wouldn't buy again
it is useless without a controller
June 19, 2016
I received the Akaso quad copter from AKASO-Store with no controller, all attempts to try to remedy the problem are futile. I have called the tech support number many time, after 5 to 8 minutes on hold it goes to voice mail every time. I have yet to get a return call. With no way to contact anyone to return it or preferably get a controller I will have to eat the cost of the copter and the extra parts and batteries I bought for it, it is useless without a controller . I will never deal with Akaso-Store again.
My first thought was that it seemed overpriced but my grandson was happy to get it for Christmas
January 6, 2016
I was unimpressed when we took it out of the box. The pictures make it look lot bigger than it actually is. My first thought was that it seemed overpriced but my grandson was happy to get it for Christmas. I ordered an additional battery and charger which hasn't arrived because, you guessed it, it has to some from China. Now, less than two weeks later, one of the rotor motors has stopped working.....before the extra battery even arrived...... so I guess my first impression was right. Very dissatisfied to say the least.
I would not recommend buying this quadcopter
January 5, 2016
I would not recommend buying this quadcopter, especially from this seller. The one I received was different than the item pictured. The quadcopter itself looked more or less the same, but the controller provided was different. The "knock-off" controller would connect to the quadcopter, but the controls didn't work properly. The quadcopter always flew like the forward trim was maxed out, and none of the trim controls actually worked when attempted to fix it.Returned for a refund and got a UDI 818A HD+ instead. It cost about $100 more, but was definitely worth it since it actually works.
Worked fine for first three flights
December 31, 2015
Worked fine for first three flights. On the fourth the drone lost transmitter signal even though I was right next to it. It took a hard landing and now one of the four electric motors is broken. The included sd card and adapter also did not work. The propeller braces also broke very quickly. I was initially impressed with the drone, however; over the past three days, I became less thrilled with the construction of the drone, and quality of work.
