Five Star Reviews: | 71% Efficient January 21, 2017 This skimmer is efficient for removing food from the pot. It holds more than my OXO Good Grips Nylon Slotted Spoon and it drains faster. However, I would have preferred a rubbery grip. Great way to julienne vegetables with lightning speed November 11, 2015 Great way to julienne vegetables with lightning speed. I love to use this with carrots for salads and in stir fries. Very sharp and still cutting like butter after almost 5 years. I'm happy with the investment. Product great, some older issues on marking etc May 6, 2014 I want to update review as I heard back from manufacturer within 24 hours. The product is all stainless steel. The packaging I have is old and was redone for all the reasons I mentioned. It was also changed to say Swiss design, as no Kuhn Rikon products are actually made in Switzerland per their managing director. They provide resellers with copy, but can't control what they write. So, I now raised my review from 4 to 5 AND want to say this is a very responsive and customer friendly manufacturer. (Of course I don't know if all their design work is actually done in Switzerland, but hey...)below is original review:Ok, so this product package & peeler marked: Kuhn Rikon Switzerland on front & reverse. Peeler is marked Kuhn Rikon Switzherland with no actual country of origin marks. The packaging does say Made in China, BUT ONLY ON THE BACK and in a SMALLER FONT than Switzerland. This is not considered legal marking per 19CRF134.46. Why? Because it misleads the consumer - including this one - about the true country of origin. If Name includes country/ or US city other than country of origin, the country of origin name must be in close proximity (front and back since this has Switzerland front and back) and be AT LEAST in the same size font.I will also be sending this information to the manufacturer.I am not fond of misleading advertising or marking...that aside, this is the best version for the price I've found, though I have used it only once. This does look stainless, but is not marked as such. Some Amazon sellers say it is, some are silent on subject some say brushed metal. The manufacturer states the blade is stainless steel and say nothing about the peeler itself - by which I infer it is not stainless. I did however already write to the manufacturer and asked this question as well. Clearly there is some lack of clarity here at a minimum - by manufacturer and especially by some U.S. resellers.Would I buy it again. Yes. Very High Quality March 9, 2014 This is a great, high quality julienne peeler. I bought this peeler to make vegetable noodles. It is very sharp and makes light, quick work of things like zucchini and yellow squash. It's nice that it comes with a blade guard since the blades are incredibly sharp. The only downside is that this peeler can be difficult to clean if you have a bad habit like me of not rinsing things off after you use them. Even so, I've found dried on zucchini to still be fairly easy to remove from this peeler, it just takes a little more time and a little more strategic maneuvering with the sponge. I've found hot water does wonders at cleaning this peeler. I would definitely recommend this peeler to someone who is on the market for one. Makes GREAT Zucchini Noodles! June 14, 2013 I was SO happy with this purchase! I have been trying to cut back/cut out carbohydrates and one of my all time favorite meals is of course pasta. I used this peeler to make noodle strips from zucchini, fried them in some oil for a few minutes to warm (you can also microwave I hear, and be sure to let the "noodles" sit with some salt on them for a few before cooking or you will have very watery noodles), and voila! Add spaghetti sauce or just some garlic and cheese and instant HEALTHY meal that satisfies the craving. I can't wait to try making potato strips for snacks :)My only complaint is sometimes food gets stuck between the metal parts and its hard to get out, but some careful scrubbing with a dish brush and HOT water will take care of it usually. Not always, but usually. I would still recommend this to someone who wants to have zucchini noodles though! My husband even liked the zucchini noodles, and he is NOT a non-traditional eater. Superior Quality Item February 23, 2010 I can't say enough good things about this julienne peeler. I first bought an Oxo julienne peeler, and it was really a piece of junk. I used it twice and saw that it was steadily going downhill from the first use (the little tines started bending right at the first usage when only julienning a carrot!), so I returned it right away. I had remembered seeing this much more expensive Kuhn Rikon julienne peeler with much better reviews and decided to give it a chance. Oh my goodness, the difference is amazing. It performs so much better, and I've now used it several times and the tines have not moved a bit out of position. I love the nice all-over stainless steel design. Very functional, beautiful, and looks like it will be very durable also. WELL WORTH the extra money! Oh, I almost forgot to mention, I also used it on zucchini and didn't have any trouble. I took a little bit lighter approach to the zucchini than I would with a carrot since it is a softer vegetable. The way I avoid hurting my fingers is to lay the vegetable on the cutting board and spear one end with a fork. Hold the vegetable by the fork and then julienne away! | 65% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 15% Thinner than Julienne February 22, 2017 This is super great quality Gadget but it's thinner than julienne and not what I wanted. However it's so high quality but I kept it anyway and I use it anyway. Great, but better value out there June 28, 2015 I absolutely LOVE my Kuhn Rikon garlic press, so when it came time to buy a julienne peeler it was a no brainer for me. Buy their peeler. And so I bought one about a year ago and happily used it without issue.Recently I was offered a review copy of the Pridebit julienne peeler. There are a number of peelers like the Pridebit that all look the same (just search for julienne peeler and look at all the clones). Having used them both now it seems like there is no major difference, and hence no real reason to pay more for the Kuhn Rikon peeler. The nice thing actually about the other 'generic' peelers is that the blade is mounted closer to the top, so it's easier to peel large vegetables. The Kuhn Rikon peeler blade sits inset from the top about 3mm or so. The attached photo shows the difference. That all said, my Kuhn Rikon blade is still pretty sharp after a year of use. It's hard to say if the other peeler will hold up as well. I'll update my review on both these products if I notice a difference, but for now I don't think it's necessary to pay more for this unit. Angel Hair! August 10, 2013 Because I really love "zoodles" (and carrot, parsnip, butternut squash, and sweet potato noodles), I ordered ALL the highly rated julienne peelers/slicers on Amazon to compare. The Paderno World Cuisine Tri-Blade Vegetable Slicer Paderno World Cuisine A4982799 Tri-Blade Plastic Spiral Vegetable failed and was returned immediately. It mangled the zucchini, didn't make noodles but clunky, misshapen strings, and wobbled all over the place. The suction cup feet were a joke. The carrot I tried never did get sliced into julienne strips but stayed in thick bands. (Yes, I had the julienne blade in!) And after slicing, the teeth were bent in all directions!I can only figure that the one a reviewer bought & raved over 3 years ago was made by a different supplier. This sort of thing happens all the time... companies change suppliers for one reason or another and the quality goes down. Possibly the "good" recent reviews are for machines which were made 3 years ago and just now found in an attic???I also tested the Gefu Spirelli Spiral Cutter GEFU Spirelli Spiral Cutter. It was about as disapointing as the Paderno and was returned right away. Read some of the 1 or 2 star reviews to understand why it was bad. Really never worked at all! Very gimmick-y. Makes me wonder if anyone actually tests these things before manufacturing them!A few months ago, I purchased an OXO julienne peeler OXO Good Grips Julienne Peeler and enjoyed using it for about 4 meals when I noticed the blades (teeth) which score the food before being sliced were all bent at different angles! The blade didn't seem all that sharp and dragging it over a carrot or parsnip was sort of difficult. However it had the widest teeth at 3.7mm making nice fat zoodles.Next I compared the Kuhn Rikon Kuhn Rikon Julienne Peeler with Blade Protector, Stainless Steel Handle and the MIU France MIU France Stainless Steel Swiss Peeler, Julienne Blade peelers. They both worked very well for hand-held tools. (Remember to anchor the base of the veggie, as one other reviewer noted, with a carving or large fork so you don't nick the fingers holding the veggie.)The MIU worked great, easy to use, but a relatively short handle which I found harder to hold on to. Comes with no protective cover for the blade, but I made one out of 3" of clear plastic 1/2" diameter tubing slit all along the long side. The teeth are 3.3mm apart which makes a thin spaghetti-type noodle, but thicker than angel-hair.The Kuhn Rikon has a nice long handle which I liked, and a cover for the VERY sharp blade. The teeth were only 2.2mm apart which makes a sort of angel-hair noodles rather than a spaghetti-type. Nice for root veggies like carrots and parsnips, and sweet potatoes; they cook quicker.I hope this helps anyone wading through the julienne peeler swamp! useful for making zucchini pasta May 28, 2013 i bought this to make zucchini pasta. i have found that the easiest way to use this is to stab the zucchini at the neck and then use the peeler to pull away from the forked end. it does have some zucchini residue left on some of the swipes but you just remove it with you hand. i figure this small inconvenience is so worth me being able to eat zucchini spaghetti. i surely don't want to attempt to actually julienne a zucchini. i bought one for my sister who states that it hurts her hand when she uses it because of the pressure she needs to apply. it doesn't bother me a bit. i love this. plus since it's made out of stainless steel i know it will last a long time. i really like the fact it comes with a cover to place on the peeler so when it is in the drawer i won't accidentally cut myself. the other thing is that since i use it so much, i do notice that there is some tiny green zucchini residue in the peeler. i use a brush to scrub it out. rinse the peeler in hot water and i allow to air dry. really convenient. Love the zucchini "pasta" but peeler clogs April 18, 2013 As others have said, it's safest to hold the zucchini down by sticking a fork in the end and peeling in the other direction. I also take a thin slice off of each side of the zucchini so that it lays flat on the cutting board and so that I am not dealing with the peel on the top when I start making the julienne strips.I have wanted to incorporate more tomato sauce into our diets since it is so healthy, but we are avoiding pasta because of the carbs, so this peeler is wonderful. Guilt-free spaghetti, any time we want! I will be using this peeler once a week.Yesterday was the second time I used it, and for some reason the ends of the strips were getting stuck in the peeler, which was a little annoying. It may be that I need to peel the zucchini a bit more, so I will do that next time.I highly recommend this peeler. It is very helpful for healthy eating.UPDATE: I did peel the entire zucchini the next time I used the julienne peeler and that solved the problem of strands getting stuck between the blades. Planning to eat zucchini pasta twice a week now. Excellent tool for healthy eating. Works, mostly December 30, 2006 I want to love this product but it's not perfect. However, it's still better than any other way I have found.Very well made (as are all Kuhn-Rikon products) in hefty stainless, with very sharp blades. The blade is about two-kernels wide and strips two rows per stroke. Which is ok, but of course, the varying widths of a kernel guarantees you are slicing through kernels much of the time. Still, beats a knife which always slashes kernels open with every stroke.Best feature: You can generally get it to remove the kernel without leaving much behind or snagging some cob. This is fairly easy to do but not without some struggle to keep it from hanging up mid-stroke.Someday, someone will think of a way to strip kernels off cleanly and wholly. Until then, this is the best. | 12% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 5% Won't replace your traditional julienner. May 17, 2016 I was looking for an alternative to a traditional julienner for julienning harder root vegetables (like asian daikon). Well, it worked okay for the first few swipes but then it quickly got jammed and I wasn't able to peel without clearing it out. It ended up taking more effort and longer to julienne with this gadget. So, for harder vegetables, perhaps sticking with the traditional julienner works better, especially if you have a big julienne job. Otherwise, for small quick jobs or for softer veggies, this does the job nicely. Works but awkward to hold and use April 22, 2016 This peeler does the job but I find it awkward to hold and use. I would rather have one with the peeler positioned lengthwise along the handle. It makes really nice strips, but I find it difficult to use, and a bit wasteful. worka, but bent... March 29, 2016 The peeler works well, but after two uses, the section that connects the peeler to the handle is bent. It will continue to function, but I'll want to replace it way before I thought I would have to. ' I use this a lot less than I thought I ... December 21, 2015 I use this a lot less than I thought I would. Sometimes I just buy julienned vegetables at the store so that I don't have to spend the time with this product. It's tough to hold onto, the pieces it makes are not uniform, and it's time consuming to use. It's just another random kitchen tool to me. | 6% There are no reviews yet |
Two Star Reviews: | 4% Re Kuhn Rikon Adjustable Mandoline, Stainless Steel - slices not thick enough. August 8, 2017 I can't figure out if I got a defective one. It seems to do very thin slices only - not useful. The blade guard retracts as you turn a hand screw, which sets the slice width. But the blade guard does not retract all the way to follow the screw setting but stops as if the spring posts holding it have taken a set. If it followed the screw setting all the way, the slice width would be at least a quarter inch - which would be useful. Perhaps I should return for an exchange. Does anyone have experience with these things to comment on the maximum slice width possible?Otherwise it seems very well made and would get 5 stars if it sliced thicker. It works fine as a straight peeler June 21, 2016 Haven't been able to figure out how to work this device. Maybe it's me. No instructions, but don't think that should be necessary. Blade fell out after second use. Not sure if I put it back in correctly. It works fine as a straight peeler, but I bought it for the "julienne" aspect. All I get is a straight peel as the blade flips around from the serrated side to the flat side beyond my control. Again, maybe it's just me being inept. This one was nowhere near as good. I had to send it back June 20, 2016 I have a different julienne peeler from Kuhn Rikon and wanted another since the handle broke on it. This one was nowhere near as good. I had to send it back, and just taped up the handle on my old one. This was the first product from them I've ever had an issue with. not impressed March 15, 2016 Disappointed in the quality of the cut. It looks like it should julienne with ease, but it seems like the blade was put in wrong or something. My spiral cutter is way easier and I should have stuck with that. Deceptive Ratings - Does not peel as described July 21, 2015 This doesn't actually separate the peels as illustrated in the photo. It essentially peels a vegetable really poorly with random (uneven) strands all strung together. NO WAY this deserves the high ratings it is getting. Maybe I got a defective product, but other than the handle (which looks nice), this product is trash. Had hoped this would make cutting veg for Japchae easier and faster, but no such luck January 20, 2015 It feel sturdy, heavy, and made of quality materials, I'll give it that. But overall the design is pretty awkward and clumsy to use. Not nearly as easy to use as my swissco "Y" peeler's design. The blade looks like it should be super sharp but it doesn't glide smoothly or cut evenly, which seems like a sharpness issue. It catches as you are peeling making it more likely that you will poke or cut your fingers or hand, which happened a couple times as i was using the item (for the record it poked me in the hand I was holding the item when it slipped. And while holding the veggie flat on a cutting board too so it wasn't a matter of me not using it safely). It caught and slipped due to the blades not being sharp enough and the design not giving you enough control, in my opinion. To get good leverage for use I had to hold the peeler handle almost at the head making it very uncomfortable to use. I liked the size of julienne slices this produced but it would have been faster and easier to cut them by hand. It doesn't cut evenly the whole way down the length of your veggies so you end up with weird impossible to cut vaguely hourglass shaped pieces that you either have to cut by hand or are just wasted. Probably going to see if this can be returned... | 5% There are no reviews yet |
One Star Reviews: | 5% Doesn't do its job September 15, 2016 The peeler I received doesn't actually julienne. It makes wide strips with little grooves in them where they should be separated. Blades seem dull, and it took quite an effort to grate ... June 7, 2016 Blades seem dull, and it took quite an effort to grate a single carrot. It doesn't work well at all. Worke d for about 1 minute then broke, not ... May 8, 2016 Worke d for about 1 minute then broke, not sure what happened, but it doesn't peel. When it did peel didn't get that deep either, would be faster just using a knife. Broke after only two uses September 9, 2015 I returned this item because it broke after two uses. Some of the little teeth broke off. I found a similar item at a local dollar store on sale for $1 or $2 which works great and has not broken. Waste of money and space. January 20, 2015 Too hard to use. You have to really get some downward force on a carrot to get some strips. That's really what I wanted it for. It works okay on softer stuff, but it's too much work for making zucchini noodles or anything else. It just sits in the drawer. I was really surprised it got so many high reviews. | 12% There are no reviews yet |

Very disappointed
Not only is this egg slicer difficult to clean, it was very disappointing in its quality. I've had it two months and one of the wires snapped today. The Pampered Chef one I had for 15 years was much better. Very disappointing...DNew Jersey
