Five Star Reviews:
This printer is not bad at all
September 11, 2016
This printer is not bad at all. Only thing that could be better would be the scan of a photo. Makes absolute perfect copies even with computer turned off. HP is known for making good printers. The ink for this one is not too much for either black or color. Don't forget to not have any of that junk software installed at the beginning. Its like 6 to 8 software items. Don't check any of it. Read carefully. I'm digging this printer for being under 100 bucks. Yeah, I'd recommend this printer to others.

This is a great printer! It has worked perfectly since I purchased it. I have printed documents and pictures. The documents are clear. The pictures turn out great! The color is perfect and the pictures look natural. The printer is quiet when it prints. It was easy to hook up. I like the wireless hook up so I can print from anywhere in my house. It is also nice to be able to print from my cell phone. The ink seems to last better than the other printers I have had. Overall this is a great printer.
Exactly What I Needed
July 26, 2016
I was having problems with my old printer and thought it may have something to do with the refilled ink cartridges I was buying so I went to purchase brand new ones. It was going to cost me $100 just for the ink cartridges and that may not have even been the problem. I decided to just get a brand new printer with ink cartridges that were affordable. I came across this and thought I would try it. I use this at home to print whatever on regular paper. I do not print out photos, but I think this would do just fine. The installation was extremely easy and I am not really that tech savvy. I could not get it to sync with my laptop on-line, I had to use the CD, but that was fine. I went to the HP website and I picked my printer, but when I clicked on the "begin" button on the site, but nothing happened. Not sure, but I got it to work. The color and black ink work great with no smearing or anything like that. I have used the scan function a couple of times and it is super easy to use too. It holds a good amount of paper for me. We really do not print a lot here so even the starter ink that it came with is still in there. The replacement ink cartridges are reasonably priced as well as this printer. I love the touch screen. It registers my light touch just fine. I cannot say enough good things about this printer. It really has worked for what I need it for.
Great printer/copier/scanner! (now with 1 Year update)
July 19, 2016
HP consistently produces top quality printers, and this Wifi enabled Envy 5660 is no exception. If you want something reliable that just needs ink and paper, this is what you need.=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=UPDATE after over a year ("notes from the field")I have owned a LOT of printers, primarily Epson years ago and HP models in recent years, and I am quote pleased to say that this is by far the best and easiest printer to use that I have ever owned! I summed it up quote well even a year ago: all it needs is paper and ink. You will not be disappointed - HIGHLY recommended! Works perfectly with high weight (I. E. 28# bond or 30# "photo" grade paper). I have never had one single problem with this printer - except my own lack of foresight in keeping ink on hand. That beings up the HP "Instant Ink" conundrum. It works quote well IF you print consistently the same amount of color and B&W pages each month, otherwise you are better of "rolling your own". That also begs the question about OEM/HP inks versus 3rd party ink makers. I have to say that I have never had problems with HP inks, but I also have to say thar t within reason, most 3rd party ink manufacturers make first quality ink at this point. Admittedly this may not have been the case a couple of years ago, but it's no longer true. Personally I do stay away from the remanufacturer or refill type ink cartridges, but your mileage WILL vary. If you are comfortable using them, you can save money. In my mind, it's with a few extra coins to stock with OEM or 3rd party ink.
The future is here!

I can't believe I waited this long to buy a new printer!Home printing technology has really come a long way in the past few years. Our previous printer was a Lexmark all-in-one with wifi, but this printer blows it out of the water. In this mobile age where people barely even use computers anymore, the Lexmark printer was showing its age. It didn't allow us to print from our mobile devices. The HP Envy does all that and more! Not only can you print wirelessly, you can connect your device directly to the printer, no wireless router required. You can also print from anywhere in the world, just by emailing your printer.Scanning documents and pictures have never been easier. Use the app on your device to scan and crop documents or pictures, which are then sent to your phone.HP also offers a service called HP Printables which allow you to subscribe to different things that will automatically print at whatever schedule you set.Now with all this printing, you'd probably screaming "What about the ink?!" Well HP also offers another service called Instant Ink. It's a subscription service where they send you ink cartridges, and you pay for an allotment of pages each month. The lowest tier is 50 pages/month for $2.99/month. Each additional 15 pages is just $1. And when the ink gets low, they will automatically send replacement cartridges. Talk about convenience, and savings to boot!So if you're still using that old "dumb" printer, I recommend throwing that piece of junk away and getting this or any of the other new HP printers.
Prints beautifully !

Exceptionally versatile printer. VERY EASY to set up for your home network. Comes with downloadable extras for making all kinds of printed material for use everyday. I read a guy's review on this before my purchase. I don't find it as noisy has he may have, but I was (and still am) using a 14 year old HP Deskjet that is becoming more difficult to find cartridges for. I have 3 computers and the ENVY 5660 fit ALL their needs to print anything, anywhere, anytime. Even from your smart phone with a small HP app download for your phone. The review I read was not overstated on anything but the gentleman wondered (as he hadn't tried it) how card stock would do. I do a LOT of card stock and it passes through this computer quite well. No hitches or glitches. I would caution only one thing: When you remove it from the box it comes in, ENSURE you have removed ALL the blue tape used to hold removable items with. A couple of the pieces are quite well hidden because / for shipping purposes. You will enjoy this item. Prints beautifully !
Great all-in-one printer
March 1, 2016
My old printer bit the dust, and I was looking for a reliable replacement. This upgrade on the XP-420 works a treat. Easy to set up Cloud printing and network connections. With this printer, I can print from anywhere in my home, or even remotely when not home. The color looks good on the photos I printed, and documents come out quite quickly. On the con side, there is a limited supply of starter ink. It didn't last long. However, when I bought this printer, I also ordered the XL capacity replacement ink from (...) and just fitted it, and can report it works just as well as with the stock ink.I am very happy with this printer, and would recommend it to others, just be sure to buy ink when you buy the printer, the starter ink doesn't last very long ata ll.
A Bang for your buck
February 20, 2016
Just got it a while ago and so far so good. The setup was super quick and easy. After taking all of the packaging and tape off from the inside and outside of the printer the configuration took no more than 10min (including setting up the wifi and adding the printer to my MacBook Pro). So far so good. I've only printer 2 pages but I have about 40 to print out for school. If it jams or messes up I will update. But if it does not then you will not get an update and can assume that it's working flawlessly. It's a decent speed. It isn't as small as I thought it would of been but it's not huge. See photo to get an idea of how big it is. That's a regular letter sized paper. It's not too loud. And will do the job it's intended to do.I have not printed a photo as I don't have photo paper, so I cannot review that.Overall nice printer
EXACTLY what I've been needing!!! BEST purchase!!!!
February 12, 2016
I really wish you all could see how excited I was about this amazing Amazon steal!!!I received this as a gift from my mother for my birthday because I am constantly having to use her printer due to my old one not working. I went and looked at some in stores but the prices were nearly $100 and since I was picking it out I wanted something that did the job but at a reasonable price. I was looking around on Amazon and came across this printer and decided to try it out since it had great reviews.First off, It was very easy to set up and I just followed the instructions. My mom read them to me and I did the set up. The ink was easy to install and so far we are still using the ink that came with it (1-2 weeks s). Although, we haven't been printing off the wall either so I'm sure that helps. After we got the printer set up i've been downloaded the app which worked just fine for me. Since the computer is hooked up to Wi-Fi I am able to print things from my iPhone without having to have the app so it really wasn't needed.I printed a picture on photo paper for my grandfather who is in the nursing home and I was pleased with the outcome of the quality. I have included pictures of the printer and also of the way my photo printed. This is definitely a great deal and one that you should not miss out on!
My cats hate this foul machine
November 25, 2015
My cats hate this foul machine. My college work loves it though. The printer is kind of like Skynet, it tells you when it runs low on ink. It lets you know when it has a paper jam. Sure, the average printer does that, but this one? It lets you know on your computer. The printer sends you an instant message, but it doesn't ask a/s/l. Thank goodness for the small things!I would recommend this for anyone that is printing papers, pictures, or even wants to play with the scanner feature. Overall, great all in one printer that terrifies cats.
SIMPLY SUPERB for HOME USE
November 2, 2015
Great price ... even greater value. Comes with black and color cartridges. Un-boxed and connected it to my wifi network and google cloud print in less than 10 minutes ---without reading the directions since everything was intuitive and plug-and-play. Color and print quality is excellent. My much more expensive HP laser 6510 has never has performed as well as this little dynamo, and the 6510 requires downloading HP software and drivers ..... definitely gonna ditch the HP!!!
So far, so good!
October 24, 2015
I just got this printer, mainly for home use to print photos, coupons and grocery lists with. I have had a problem with my previous network printer automatically connecting to my computer and especially after updating to Windows 10. I was very frustrated and went on Cnet.com to check out their printer suggestions and this was at the top of the list, surprisingly. It was inexpensive and when I got it, I immediately opened it and set it up. It was so easy and connected immediately! I just finished printing a picture of my eldest grand daughter and it came out beautifully with Epson ink. I have seen complaints about the ink being so expensive and the printers being so cheap, but the printers and the ink used to both be expensive so I'm not complaining. Actually, the ink for this printer is less expensive than either my previous Dell printer or my HP printers and the printer actually works well. When printing a document, it prints very quickly and spits it out like a shot! Of course, printing pictures is a bit slower but that is to be expected. I love this little printer so far. I will update this review if my opinions change on this. So far, so good!

$2.99 a month and never buy ink again. Hoot! Hoot!
September 24, 2017
I am a wannabe artist and bought this to print out images and silhouettes. I love the instant ink feature. Ink is so expensive. That's one of the reasons I bought this because it was cheaper than buying ink for my old one! Now for $2.99 I never have to worry about ink again. Yeah!!😁 I've never really printed pictures on it but I love it. I can print from my phone or iPad so the world is good! I also read it was good for printing Coloring pages so that's another plus.I love how easy it is to use too. I sometimes need to increase or decrease the size of images and it's so easy. When I had to replace my ink cartridges there was a video to show me how. How cool is that?I had my last HP printer for over 12 years and never had a problem with it. It still worked when I got rid of it. It just needed ink. So you can count on HP. If it last half that long I'll be happy!! So buy it now!💕💞
great printer so far
May 1, 2017
great printer so far, prints good color, good speed. Scans/copys clear. fairly easy interface and was easy to connect via wireless etc. Time will tell if it lasts and what kinda cartridge life I get out of it. Im a med to low qty user.5/17/2017So far, Ive been through the sample cartridges, and almost a full pack of 62xl which are the extended life units. I have printed 397 total prints so NOT TOO IMPRESSED with cartridge life so far. Most of those were monochrome prints to boot.8/20/17Look elsewhere.....ive been thru XL and standard cartridges. $185 for 695 prints...most of em black. Prints good...total BS on ink life....doesn't seem to matter where you get ink. Look elsewhere, this is an INKHOG!!
Good printer, Bad start up manuel.
March 25, 2017
I like the printer, however, the get started booklet sent me to a site "123.hp.com" that ended up infecting my computer. When I went to the site I was invited into a chat. The chat asked for my name and phone number so an expert could help me. The expert, Roy, called me and took over my computer, without asking permission. This should have clued me in but I was trusting because I thought I was dealing with hp. Roy managed to infect my computer with 3880 objects, and he was unable to get my printer working from my computer. I was able to get it to print from my computer after Roy was finished. In the future I will only go to an official site regardless of what the instruction book tells me to do. Good printer bad start up booklet.
Good printer for photos!
January 1, 2016
I like this printer a lot. I bought it because my old printer failed to print the color yellow. I wanted a printer that was good for excellent photo printing, and based on my observations so far it is a good buy.I found it easy to set up following the instructions. It gave me a weird error message when I tried to remotely log it into the wireless network according to the instructions, but it turned out that it had really connected and when I reran the wizard it went through fine.I'm trying the HP Instant Ink arrangement. I realize that the fact that the color ink comes in a single cartridge is a way of making sure I go through more ink, and it's a bit of a racket to sign up for a monthly fee rather than pay for it myself when needed, but it is a convenience and if the cost is not too bad it will be worth it in the end. And if I don't like the Instant Ink arrangement I can stop at any time and just buy ink when I need it.All in all, it's a good deal. I'd rather the color inks were in separate cartridges to make it a little more cost-effective, but that's a minor issue for me.
So far, so good.

I just got this printer a couple of days ago. Here are a few tips and comments. 1) Do everything in the order specified in the setup directions, especially connecting the printer to the computer and loading the ink cartridges. 2) Use "bright white" paper. The thin cheap stuff will cause paper jams. It won't happen with the heavier gauge paper. 3) I initially had out of paper messages, but they went away after I loaded the paper correctly. 4) After loading the software disc, don't register for anything you don't want, even though you're continually prompted to do so. There is a way to opt out of all the sales pitches. Scroll down and you'll see the tabs. They look greyed out, but you can still use them. The printer will work fine without all the addons HP is trying to sell you. 5)The wireless functions work nicely. My other computer recognized the printer, installed the drivers, and printed remotely with no problem. 6) The feature that allows you to print photos from your phone is also really nice. Just download the HP ePrint app and you're good to go. 7) If you're shopping for a printer that will make lab quality photos, this not the one for you. The few that I've printed are fine for me, but I'm not a professional. If YOU are, then you'll have spend a lot more for the results you want. This is just my opinion, though. I'm not experiencing any kind of high pitched sounds that some other reviewers were hearing, but obviously some people are hearing them.If I run into problems, I'll make another post.
Pleased With This HP ENVY 5660 All -In-One Inkjet Printer
December 14, 2014
I read LOTS of reviews of other printers before purchasing this one. I have an HP computer and wanted an HP printer to avoid any compatibility issues. I've owned 2 HP printers previously and wore both of them out. During my search, the most frequent complaint I found was that most of the newer printers take separate color ink cartridges and will not print, even in black and white, unless all the cartridges are full, forcing users to have to change cartridges which are not empty. In my opinion, this is a rotten way for printer manufacturers to treat their customers, as the cost of ink is already ridiculous and having to remove cartridges that are not empty is pretty outrageous. Who wants a bunch of half-filled cartridges lying around? Also, the initial cash outlay for separate color cartridges is much higher than for the tri-color ones. Evidently, HP listened to those complaints, as THIS PRINTER TAKES ONE black cartridge and ONE tri-color cartridge, (#62) which runs about $32 for a combo pack. The combo pack also includes free 5 X7 photo papers and envelopes, a feature that I use a lot. If it runs out of one or more colors, it will still print. The printer itself is a good one. Copies and scans come out crisp and clean, as do photos. (I made all my holiday cards on the free photo paper this year, and they turned out very nice.) Changing cartridges is easy- you lift the lid and the glass plate, pop out the old one and snap in a new one. I do a lot of scanning and it is very easy, providing you load all the features into your computer from the CD that is included. I did NOT have to download any drivers from the internet. It also prints wirelessly, a feature that I haven't used.Another common complaint was having to always print an alignment page and go through the alignment process before you could print. HP changed this too, as a box now pops up, giving you the option of aligning, postponing or cancelling alignment. You can also postpone alignment from the touchscreen on the printer. It takes all sizes of paper, and prints well on glossy photo papers. The only thing I have not tried yet is card stock. It is a bit noisy, but this is not a big deal for me. I do need to remind myself to push in the spring-loaded pop-out paper catcher when I'm finished, so that I don't bump it and break it. Printing is quick on text documents and a little slower on photos, but the quality is excellent, so I don't mind the speed being a little slow.Everything you need comes in the box, but don't forget to purchase extra ink, as the cartridges that come with it contain less ink. I've had this printer for about a month and have used it a LOT. So far, NO paper jams! All in all, I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend this printer to anyone looking for a good home or small business printer. Thanks for listening, HP!
Prints beautiful text, surprisingly good scans
February 8, 2016
I have owned Canon printers in the past but after the print head going bad on my last one I decided I needed to try another brand. I was completely sick of the ridiculous amount of time it would take to prepare to print after being idle for a couple days, and even though it wasn't used that much it seemed like it was always complaining that one of the ink tanks was low. I almost bought another big multi-function HP printer not unlike the Canon I had, but as printers tend to not have a super long lifespan and my family doesn't do lots of printing, I decided I wanted something that covers the basics with a more compact footprint, inexpensive, but reliable and easy to use. This Epson XP-420 seems to fit the bill.I have had this printer for a couple months as of this writing and so far I am very happy with it. It was very easy to set up for wireless printing, and it prints fantastic looking text. I copied some drawings my kids made with colored pencils and they were practically indistinguishable from the originals. I have only printed a couple quick photos (not enough to really judge), and I haven't run though my initial starter ink tanks yet, so I'm going to reserve the 5th star for later down the road. If it continues to be reliable (i.e. my wife never complains about it not working) and it prints decent photos I'll come back and update the rating. The only feature that I miss from my much bigger Canon is that it doesn't have a paper drawer to go with the input space on the back so that you can have both regular paper and photo paper loaded at the same time. Not a knock as I knew that was a sacrifice I was making for the nice small footprint and low price, but something to consider if that is important to you.
Nice home printer for light to moderate use.
February 4, 2016
I researched a lot of printers before finally settling on this one. Some reviews were great, while others were not-so-stellar, so I took a chance on it. I wanted something with a small footprint that I could print to from several wireless devices. Print quality was another important factor for me, while the price of toner was less important. So far, after light use, I like it. The print quality is pretty decent. It isn't super wonderful, but it works for my needs and it prints nicely. I haven't tried printing photos on photo paper yet, but I imagine it will be just fine. Navigating through the menus is easy and setup was pretty simple. All of my devices have connected with no problems, and I've have no issues printing from my phone, Surface, laptop, etc. It's small, which is a great feature to me. It's relatively quiet, I guess. I've have really loud printers in the past and this is far quieter. The scanner and copier functions are just bonuses for me as I just really wanted a printer. My only complaint so far is I have a problem with it staying connected to my home wifi. It could be my router, so I am going to look into that. Every time I turn it on, or wake it up, I have to go through the process of reconnecting it to my wifi by selecting the name and entering the password. I do wish it would store that information so I wouldn't have to type it in every time.. and, if it does, I have yet to figure out how to do it.Overall, I think this is a great printer for light to moderate use.

December 23, 2015
Good printer. It's easy to install and a little finicky to setup for wireless use.Printing is slow to start then quite fast. It takes some time to get the message sent wirelessly from my home computer that's 15 feet away. Once it does get the message it's plenty quick to print.Copying is a similar story since it takes a while to scan the document but actually printing the copy is fast.Like I said, scanning is slow. Whether it's to the cloud or directly to a PC. Another note is when aligning the document at the top left of the scanning bay actually cuts off about 1/8" from the top of the document. This happens even when the settings are set to automatic for the paper size. It's easily fixed by moving it over but it's weird that it's happening at all.It has a good enough interface that's easy to follow and understand. The online enabled printer side it pretty nice too. It has customizable features like naming the printer, scan destination folders, who can have access to the printer along with the onboard SD card (if you install one), and even a print option where you send documents to an email address to have the printer print it for you. I haven't tried that last feature yet, but it's nice to have there. All in all it was definitely worth the $50 i spent on black friday 2015 for this guy. Plus CNET has it as one of the cheapest printers when it comes to replacing the ink.
Nice little printer
November 5, 2015
Nice little printer, great bang for the buck. I'm not a photo-paper connoisseur, so don't go getting this based on my review if you expect perfect pics. I don't print photos often, but when I have, it does its job as it should. Relatively easy to set up, if a little lengthy. NOTE: Does NOT come with the USB cord to connect to your computer...would have been nice if they'd have indicated that in a more viewable area than it is found. I'd still have bought it, the cord is maybe $5? Just annoyed I couldn't use it the day I received it because I needed the stupid cable.
Printer great! Use ONLY 220 cartridges, not 200
June 5, 2015
Printer great ~ easy to install and use. Buyer beware, if you choose the package deal with the printer and a black and color cartridge, the black charity ugh received (200) will not fit the printer. Both the black and color cartridges are 220, not 200. I had to return and run to Staples for the correct cartridge.

June 11, 2017
The print quality is good, but we had to spend more than an hour on the phone with tech support setting it up (I've never had to call tech support to set up something like a printer). Also, the printer stopped working after a few days and continues to give an error message saying that the paper tray is empty, although it's not. We are using it with a Mac computer and I see there are a lot of online boards, going back to 2016, saying that the computer gives this error message with Mac computers. It sounds like there might need to be photo paper in the photo paper tray to allow it to print on regular paper (even if you are not trying to print on photo paper). I don't know yet because I don't have photo paper. Very annoying.
it prints beautiful photos. However
April 11, 2017
When I can get this printer to work, it prints beautiful photos. However, it's a daily struggle to get this printer to stay on the Wifi to print wirelessly and it's a huge struggle to get the printer to print on photo paper. The problem is that HP wants customers to use its papers. I happen to love Epson photo paper and want to use it in 4x6 size to print my photos. HP made the photo tray to this printer just a little bigger than 4x6 and made their paper match that size exactly. Unfortunately, any other 4x6 size paper will result in a sensor error, so instead of using the convenient photo tray, you have to wrangle the printer to get the paper to work correctly. Search the HP forums for something like HP 5660 won't print on photo paper and you'll see what I'm talking about. Also, the HP customer support is some of the worst support I've ever had to deal with. My next printer will not be HP. I feel like I need to use this one for at least a year to get my money's worth, though.
The printer worked fine the first day
February 1, 2017
The printer worked fine the first day. The second day, the color cartridge malfunctioned and would not print yellow or magenta.I called HP and after an hour of technical support they asked me to look at the date on the cartridge. The color cartridge that came with the computer expired on 12/31/2016! The HP tech said the cartridge was expired and the ink was bad, and because it was expired it wasn’t under warranty!!! After much argument HP agreed to send me a spare cartridge. It’s VERY disappointing that a printer I purchased in January 2017 from this seller, came with an expired cartridge right from the start. I emailed seller on 1/17/17 and never got a response!
and i'm great with this stuff
November 11, 2016
software was glitchy, i had alot of trouble hooking up 3 cpus, and i'm great with this stuff. I did get it to work so we will have to wait and see. Also didn't like the fact that I couldn't send a scan to where ever I decided, (according to tech support) it had to go to file explorer. Well, i figured out a way to put it right on the desktop. I don't want to search for my new scans, plus i made it pop up on new scans too.
It's an OK printer but I liked my old one better
October 14, 2016
Have had the printer about three weeks. Am a senior and prefer having paper instructions. This only comes with setup instructions. It doesn't take a SD card from my camera [or I don't know where to find it }. It does print quickly from my phone. The holder that slides out to hold the paper no longer slides back in. After only using it a few times. ?? That is disappointing as it is not convenient to have it out when not in use. I find putting paper in inconvenient. ie sliding the tray out etc. Doesn't hold as much paper as my old HP, or photo paper. It's an OK printer but I liked my old one better.
First didn't work; replacement did.
March 16, 2015
First printer stopped working after 4-5 days. Called HP. They were very nice and tried to be helpful but ultimately I wasted well over four hours on the phone with tech support to learn (what I already knew) the printer's wireless card was faulty. To HP's credit, they sent me a new printer in a few days. I set up the new one. Works fine but it is very loud -- to the point that it sounds like something is stuck in it. Nothing is stuck in it. I guess -- other than the loudness, the days I waited to get a replacement, and the hours & hours I spent on the phone with HP, it's an okay purchase. The loudness is a bit annoying. I don't even want to get on the phone with HP again. I already wasted all that time so I will 'suck it up' and live with the noise.
but for someone who prints infrequently like I do
July 27, 2017
Prints ok, but for someone who prints infrequently like I do, I find that I have to clean the print heads just about every time otherwise text comes out fuzzy. Also the cartridges don't last very long, but I'm not sure if that's because I don't use it all that often and the ink may dry out. I'm pleased with the price overall and the fact that it works with AirPrint, but I certainly wouldn't brag about it.
September 24, 2016
This printer is like that one friend who always has something to say about everything. My ink's low, I want to jam, I'm not ready to print, I can't find your wifi, My inks low again, I don't like that ink, More paper, What was your wifi, I'm not steady enough. It prints, and it prints fine. We bought this mostly because to replace the ink on our old printer cost as much as this guy new. It worked fine, ran out of ink quickly. We got replacement ink. It was ok. Our levels show ink, but it wont print right. I couldn't get color to print without black ink or black to print without color. Keep putting ink in there for the one time I have to print a month.
Nice decent printer with high ink costs.
September 13, 2016
It's very nice lower cost all in one printer. Works great in all ways. 3 stars for the ink cartridges. I've owned this for almost a year and haven't used it much.I've printed less than 100 pages and replaced the black ink a while back, in replacing the ink the printer recommended I clean the head in order for the new cartridge to work (if you don't then it doesn't print, so it's mandatory to clean), after doing that it spent about 20% of the black replacement cartridges just to clean the heads, the other 3 were about 1/2 full and after the cleaning it's less than 20% remaining.Ink costs and quality of cartridges aren't worth it, looks like I'll need another set of color replacement, at this rate it'll be 2 sets of cartridges for 1 ream of paper (500 sheets) That's excessive ink and or price. If you don't mind buying ink at $50+ for genuine epson or paying $20-30 for generic and doing it at least twice or more per ream then you'll like this printer, if you're wanting a decent printer with a low maintenance cost then this is not the printer for you. (That's $100 of ink for 1 ream of paper or $40-60 generic ink per ream)
There are good and bad things about this printer
December 14, 2015
There are good and bad things about this printer.Good:1) Creates its own hotspot - very easy to print wirelessly from your phone or tablet.2) decent quality for what it isBad:1) each photo takes about 3 minutes to print. WAYYY to long. We were using it at a party and it was awful. But worse is:2) can't hold photos in cue. When we tried to print a photo while the printer was operating - it could only hold one picture in cue at a time. So you could be printing one picture, and have one in cue - the rest would never print out.Didn't work for our purpose (use for a photo booth setup at a party), but not a bad printer on its own...
Windows 10 - unable to get this to connect via wifi
November 29, 2015
Windows 10 - unable to get this to connect via WiFi. I have downloaded the software and been thru the online setup guide and all troubleshooting options. No luck. Since this printer does not come with the squared ended USB cable, I need to order one. (sigh) A bit frustrating. Why not include the $3 cable? I mean, come on........Update:Successfully setup and printing via cable on windows 10 Laptop. Print quality is good. Like the 'black only' feature to preserve color inkPlease Note: When using the Scanner, the outer edges are cut off (@ 1/4 inch) if you align the doc to be scanned with the edge of the glass
and hastily decided the "buy all three together" option for printer and ink was a good idea. Didn't think amazon would pull some
August 23, 2015
Not a problem with the ink so much as a problem with amazon. Bought this in a "bundle". Purchased a printer from amazon, and hastily decided the "buy all three together" option for printer and ink was a good idea. Didn't think amazon would pull something like this, but the bundle included the printer, a package of colored ink for the printer, and this black ink, which I only realized when the printers original black cartridge ran out, does not in fact go with/work on the printer it was bundled with. Not only am I out of Ink, but wasted $$ on a cartridge I'll never be able to use. Read the details carefully! Amazon is not your friend!.
Two Star Reviews:
What is the point of buying a sophisticated printer if the software is so bad and it can't function when needed?
July 14, 2017
If there is one thing good about having a printer at home, it is printing any document quickly and once you need it. Otherwise, I have a printer at work that I can use!Now if this product's software is so retarded, to the point of having some sort of random error more than 50% of the times, it defeats the whole purpose of having a printer at home!Any subtle change in literally anything, can throw this printer's software off. Even if I change the internet password or change the ink cartilage, the software stops recognizing the internet network, and the laptop stops seeing the printer, and you have to restart everything now (while you are getting late now because you thought you had the luxury of printing at home and at will). The software is frustrating, nerve wrecking, and very whimsical (spontaneously starts working, then spontaneously chooses to stop). It is just frustrating to see this sophisticated machine in front of you, but you simply can't use because of its retarded software.I needed to print documents urgently about 10 times throughout the last year, and this printer turned me down in at least 75% of the time.I am so disappointed with HP honestly. Thanks for nothing.
Too much trouble!
June 8, 2017
Slow to respond with print command. Noisy. Getiing "printer off-line" message almost constantly. Had to pay local computer tech to come twice to resolve issue. Even though I have a wireless network he still had to connect the printer with a cable to my laptop to get it working. It makes great copies but I wouldn't buy it again. It's been too much trouble. My other HP printer (3050A) is about 10 years old and performs like a charm on the network. Should have purchased that instead of the Envy 5660.
SCANNER SUCKS, everything else is tip top shape.
December 12, 2016
This "All-in-One" printer sucks at scanning. I attempted to contact the seller and let them know but I have yet to receive a response. The printer is good at printing and wireless set up is easy. Scanning is just a nightmare, I should have done more research. If you don't care for scanning documents and are only interested in printing, then this is great. If you are even mildly interested in scanning, do not purchase this printer, it is time consuming to scan a couple pages and if your scanning wirelessly, the printer loses connection after scanning two documents. I want to like it, but I don't. I am just dealing with my lack of research as a result.
Awful photo printer
October 31, 2016
After using this on a number of prints I've come to the conclusion that this is a terrible photo printer. The ink is insanely expensive and will not get you very many prints, even when you buy XL cartridges! To add insult to injury, the prints are streaky! At first I thought it was an issue with the stability of the table it was on, but regardless of where it is placed, or the settings, there are obvious streaks. This would be fine if it weren't a damn PHOTO printer. I am extremely disappointed. Stay awayEdit: I switched from an ink guzzling, insanely confusing Epson printer to this great HP printer. The ink is a double edged sword for HP printers, while I was able to squeeze about 20 full-colored photo prints out of the tri-color cartridge, some of the photos were streaky, and I find it extremely wasteful that to replace just one color, you have to replace all colors. Where Epson wouldn't let you print black and white if you didnt have color installed, HP lets you print whatever regardless of your ink levels... this is a very nice change.Still it is a bit wasteful to have to discard all your colored inks because youre low on just blue-- it's a trade off.The setup for this printer may be confusing if you use Mac, just a headsup, don't expect out of the box printing. This is a pretty decent all-in-one. The scan quality and software is great, takes a little getting used to, but pretty good. its got a max dpi of 1200 for scans, great. As a printer, its just okay. Some of the photos I printed were streaky, the colors were a bit off, not so great. It prints at a relatively fast speed, so at least there's that. The monitor and touchscreen are really great, all-in-all, its decent.
print quality all good. As others have noted it constantly phones home ...
August 1, 2016
Setup, convenience, print quality all good. As others have noted it constantly phones home to HP unless you do a fair bit of customized setup to prevent this. The cartridges that come with printer are special new printer cartridges that run out fast. HP really pushes the Instant Ink program. The Instant Ink program sucked for me. You have to use special Instant Ink cartridges and let the computer report to HP. I was billed about $6 every month. I went several months with little printer use. Then I signed up for a college class and started using it quite a bit. I was billed extra for exceeding my monthly allotment. All those $6 payments? Well customer service tells me, I "could have" used the printer those months. So I cancel Instant Ink. Now the printer won't print. I buy standard ink cartridges for half the price of the printer that don't last as long as the half-full Instant Ink cartridges that won't work now. And was billed for another month of Instant Ink. I called to complain, had to get a manager, and only when he confirmed the printer had reported the removal of the Instant Ink cartridges and HP had sent me new standard cartridges did they refund the last charge.Today the printer is about a year old. Printed a few single pages fine. Then halfway through a black text page it quits and tells me there is an error. The HP utility on MS Windows shows a half full color cartridge and error for black cartridge. Screen on printer tells me to remove and reinstall the color cartridge. I try this and no help. Printer says color cartridge is bad, HP utility says black cartridge is bad. I get HP online help which shows me how to clean the cartridges and the contacts in the printer. I clean both cartridges and printer contacts as instructed. Now printer and utility show both cartridges bad. Customer service suggests I buy new cartridges (half the price of the printer again) and try that. RIGHT........This is my second HP printer that worked fine and then the warranty timer ran out :-(. Last one started slipping and wouldn't move paper through. Clean the back rollers with a damp cloth they told me. I would do that. It would work that day. Next time I had to clean them again, then finally I had to put tension on the paper and coax it through. I was looking at a Canon on sale today. Went to Canon web site and the reviews on their own web site rake it over the coals. Sigh.Days like today I want to turn back the clock and pay more up front for something that lasts and is repairable. So many products today the only fix is send it to the land fill and buy a new one. Except electronics of course. Those I have to store and take it to the special collection we have every quarter.
January 4, 2016
Great printer! It was easy to set up, and it is very pleasing to use. Good quality. No complaints (thus far)!Update (May, 2017): It was a nice printer while it lasted (not even a 1.5 years of lite use). It eventually stopped recognizing the printer cartridges and refused to print. Extremely frustrating!! I've had it with ink jet printers... Time to graduate to laser jets.
November 23, 2016
I've had this printer for 1-1/2 years and have to say I think it's the best printer I've ever used in my office. Not one single problem. NOT ONE. Love it :)UPDATE: BEST PRINTER... til it wasn't. It just STOPPED printing ink. It went thru the motions, but no ink. Google search: it's a known problem with Epson printers I guess. Soooo, after purchasing tons of ink to try to fix it, I had to ditch it. Sad day. But, I did use it for over 2 years and luckily I only paid $50 for it. Not bad I guess.
Price good, but quality is poor and printing is terrible
February 6, 2016
Printer is priced great and ink is affordable, yet the machine feels a little flimsy. My biggest challenge after four days of ownership has been getting a quality document to print. Upon startup the test page had ink missing from some spots while other areas were streaked with red and black. I cleaned the heads three times with no improvement. Epson customer support advised me to clean the heads three more times, using most of the starter ink supplied with the device. Finally, tech support advised me to leave the machine off for twenty-four hours to loosen the ink stuck in the brand new printer. The printer is useless to me as is so I am going to attempt a return and look for a better machine.
held hostage to empty print cartridges
September 10, 2015
Beware in purchasing this printer if you do not live around the corner from an office supply store. If you run out of any color ink, it will not print. I just replaced the cyan because I wanted to print--not in cyan but in black. No, this printer will not print at all if any of the cartridges are empty. I never printed in color since I got the printer except to test the print head. But it ran out of cyan. So I drove five miles to get the cyan and then when I printed, it printed in red. Now I never set it to print in red and I never printed anything in red--except to test the print head. But out comes a page in red ink. Never did that until I changed the cyan/ Go figure . . .And guess what folks? Yep, now it will not print because I am out of red. My other annoyance with it is that it takes so long to print after it receives the print or copy command. But that is a small thing to quibble about in relation to being held hostage to empty cartridges. I just bought an HP with stellar reviews--this is going bye bye .
This printer drains ink like crazy. I bought it a month ago
September 7, 2015
This printer drains ink like crazy. I bought it a month ago, printed about 100 pages on it, and the printer's now beeping at me for another set of cartridges. Cartridges aren't cheap either. You'll spend about $38 for four of them, the black ink cartridge plus the three color cartridges. That's fine, you tell yourself, I only use it occasionally, so this is convenient. Nope, the cartridges will dry up and clog, and you'll spend precious minutes of your life cleaning the nozzle.Wireless features are also not great. I've had the printer stop half way through a print job on multiple occasions when trying to print wirelessly. It got to the point where I would use a USB cable if I wanted to print anything more than two or three pages long because I simply did not trust the wireless function on the printer. I'm wising up, selling this thing, and buying a laser printer.
I should've read the customer reviews.
July 20, 2015
This WiFi model is compact, and at first, I thought, dependable, it printed okay plus it fit into my budget. However, ink cartridges have minimum capacity, you have to order frequently even if you only use printer occasionally. The worst part is if black ink is too low, IT WILL NOT PRINT! It simply STOPS! It's terrible when in the midst of project like today. I'm ready to throw it out. The new recently installed black cartridge, taken right out of the unopened packaging, would not be recognized no matter what we did. Apparently, it was ?? who knows what? I've owned a few home printers but none with this frustrating type of stubborn, expensive non performance.
Good "second" printer (UPDATED)
May 25, 2015
As others have mentioned, this is not a true "all in one," as it lacks faxing capabilities. It's also not really suitable for heavy-duty home-office use, as it doesn't have an automatic feeder, it doesn't print quickly, and let's face it… it's fairly low-end inkjet. Don't expect photo-lab quality pictures or laser-quality printouts. But it is exactly what it's supposed to be… a small, lightweight printer for personal home use. I found the setup very simple because I'm on a Mac/iPhone and Epson printers are more Mac friendly than most. It's wireless (connected to my network immediately) and geared to mobile devices. Scanning is simple, but like I said, picture printout quality is merely adequate and you definitely want to use actual photo paper if possible. Even then, it doesn't look like a real photo. This is perfect for keeping in the bedroom or kitchen when you just need a quick printout of a recipe or a map/directions, or you need to scan something but don't necessarily need the full features of--or the space for--an office-appropriate all-in-one. That's what an $80 printer is for, and considering how many features and capabilities you actually get here, this is a bargain.UPDATE 12/16: It stopped printing after relatively few pages. I only got a handful of decent printouts. I've wasted a ream of paper on nozzle checks, and now all I get are pages with a few faint splotches of ink, or entirely blank pages (image shows how a full page of text prints out). My quest for a printer that actually works for more than a few pages continues.

Worst printer I have ever had.
June 11, 2017
I have had many, many printers in my 80 years, but never one so confusing and difficult to use. When it decides to print, it does a great job. - I love the fact that you can print photos from the cellphone, but I sometimes spend an hour or two changing settings and getting help before it decides to print. Even the help sections are almost useless. When I try to get help, the printer sends me a message totally opposite of what I am asking!! I know it may be operator issues, but I have tried everything I know to get this "printer" to print.
It's probably one of the worst printers I've used due to this
March 24, 2017
This printer constantly loses wireless connectivity. It's probably one of the worst printers I've used due to this. Every time I go to print this I have to reinstall the printer completely.
Spend a little more and get a better printer
March 19, 2017
This printer has been a nightmare since I opened the box. Crashed my home network when trying to set up mobile printing. Have not been able to print consistently from my phone. Maybe a 10% success rate. Existing photos on my computer will not print from the 4x6 photo tray no matter what I do. I am tired of talking to India. I have been using HP printers for nearly 20 years. Paid $700.00 for my first Photosmart and it performed perfectly for 12 years. Next photo printer all-in-one worked pretty good too. This one not so much. You sometimes don't get what you paid for, even if it was inexpensive.
January 4, 2017
Ordered in September and finally installed it in my office this week. Would not print as it required me to sign up for Instant Ink. After calling and talking to support (5 different people), we finally realized it was sent with "Instant Ink" cartridges. The Amazon sender had replaced the manufacturers ink cartridges. After $62 worth of cartridges, it finally worked. Sounded terrible but since it was working and I had a deadline I continued to work with it. Next day first time to print it said there was a paper jam. No paper was in the unit. Will not work at all now. eginning to think the seller sent me a refurbished unit. I do not recommend nor will I buy again.
Printer did not work
November 18, 2015
I read the reviews before I purchased this and thought it would be a good choice. I received it faster than expected, which was a plus. But from the time I plugged it in, it didn't work properly. The set up procedure wasn't working right. I installed the ink and paper, but it kept telling me I had a paper jam and/or there was something in the way of the ink cartridges. There was no paper jam and nothing blocking the ink. It just wouldn't slide properly. I ended up returning this and going to my local Best Buy and purchasing one. That was set up great and have had no n problems.
This machine has functional problems. Don't get it.
July 26, 2015
I bought this to replace an old HP photosmart printer and my primary goal was to replace it with one that would be trouble-free and not require constant hand-holding to work. Unfortunately, this one has a major glitch which is causing me to return it. After any print job, the printer will not copy a document from the glass without restarting the printer. It gets stuck on a spinning circle screen, spits out a sheet of blank paper and says "print cancelled". The printer restart is not very quick because it seems to be stuck in that spinning circle mode. In any case, who wants to restart your printer every time you want to make a copy? This is a known issue to HP without an apparent solution. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Scanning-Faxing-and-Copying/hpenvy-5660-will-not-copy-from-glass-without-restarting/m-p/5123391/highlight/false#M120559
then it worked fine. FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY
October 4, 2017
I bought this in February 2016, however only took it out of the packaging in June 2017. It took awhile for everything to sync and be able to print, then it worked fine. FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY. When I awoke the next day and went to print again, the printer would not even start. It's as if the "ON/OFF" switch is stuck. I've tried everything I could think of to fix it, even called the Epson Customer Service Center. Epson had a Tier 1 level employee trying to assist me, and I knew more than she did about electronics. She offered me a discount (for a one week period) off of another printer (the discounts was only from their site, and was a small percentage off), and she gave me the name of some service centers to take the printer. The representative informed me that if I took it to be fixed, that I would be responsible for all repair costs. What a waste of time and money!
I was stupid enough to buy another one yet just to make ...
September 28, 2017
I bought this for my dad on December 9, 2015, so it's been less than 2 years. It worked out okay initially, the only complaint was the ink cartridges are so small that my dad had to change the cartridge 3-4 times during his ownership. Then about a month ago, this printer stopped printing black color. The weird thing is that if we copy a document, it seems to be printing black (although looks just a little bit light-ish), but when printed from a PC black texts are very faint. This is not an issue with specific PC, because I also connected the printer to my computer and the same time happened. This happened right after we put a new black ink cartridge, so the logical thing to do was to doubt the cartridge (even though it was Epson genuine cartridge also purchased via Amazon). When he ordered a new cartridge he ordered a bundle of two, so we tried the other one. The same problem.I was stupid enough to buy another one yet just to make sure, and the printer still refuses to print black text.We did a numerous cleaning and alignment checks - so much that now we used up all blue ink that the printer refuses to print anything until we replace it with a new cartridge. No way I am going to waste more money on it.It's a shame that this product did not even last 2 years. My very first printer was a dot matrix printer (you can probably guess my age, lol) from Epson, and that thing kept on running. My next printer was a laser printer, so that tells how long my first Epson printer lasted - more than 10 years, and it was still working fine when I finally got rid of it.They used to make high quality stuff, but I guess that has changed. I just so happened to have purchased a golf swing analyzer (one that you put on your club) form Epson, and that one did not last very long, either. Fortunately (?) that swing analyzer started malfunctioning rather early, only a few weeks after I bought it, so I was able to get my money back (but had to pay for the shipping to return it, which made me quite unhappy). Unfortunately, this printer is out of warranty, so I don't know what I am going to do with it.I really liked its small form factor. I have another all in one printer from Canon which was a bit more bulky and takes up quite some more space. Well, I had that one for more than 5 years now and it is still working very well, so I guess I shouldn't complain.I will never buy another product from Epson. The next printer I buy for my dad would probably be from Canon.
May 17, 2017
We have had this printer for almost 2 years, and it has been nothing but headaches. Setting up was not a breeze, it uses ink ridiculously fast, and it WILL NOT print in just black ink, so even though we have a full cartridge of black, I can't print anything until I replace all of the color inks again. The ink for this printer is very expensive. At this point, we are probably just going to get rid of it rather than replace the color ink yet again. It has never been easy to print something- which is the whole reason we wanted to own a printer, to make our lives easier. Luckily we bought it marked down on amazon at $60, but even that was a terrible purchase.
AVOID THIS PRINTER!
October 26, 2016
I would give this printer no stars if possible. I run a business out of my home and the ink quality is TERRIBLE! After replacing all new cartridges, the printer still fails to print properly. If you would like to avoid lines across your page or it being so blurry that it is unreadable, then AVOID THIS PRINTER AT ALL COST! I wish I could contact someone directly (like a store) to return it, but no such luck here on Amazon. It has been a hassle for months. You WON'T want to deal with it!-Sincerely VERY DISAPPOINTED customer-
Two Epson XP-420 / Junk / DO NOT BUY!!!
July 8, 2016
This has to be the worse printer out there. The printing is the worse. It started acting up before the black ink was low. I purchased more ink from Amazon thinking the ink cartridge was the issue. It was not. So I went to Wal Mart to buy a basic printer to get my work done. I forgot about this printer until the other ink was low, so I worked on it again trying everything to make it print correctly. I did the head cleaning, etc. Nothing helped.I then decided to return it and the time expired to return it. So I have a printer that does not print and lot's of ink.I was at Staples looking for a printer and saw a used XP-420 and talked the manager down just so I could use up my ink I had left over from this printer that is worthless.I got the new used printer home and guess what, it does the exact same thing. The print is terrible. I use a Macbook Pro and a Macbook Air and a iPad Pro and everyone of them produced the same bad printing. Both do the exact same thing.Don't waste your time buying this junk. If Epson is reading this, buy back this crap that you know is bad, and take it off the market.Yes the Wal Mart printer (cheap) works great, Yes the HP works great on all my devices, but not Epson.
I hate this printer
June 2, 2016
At this moment, I hate this printer. Let me explain why:Epson requires you to have ALL color print cartridges full in order to print, even in black and white. This means that if the Cyan or Magenta cartridge are out, you cannot print in black and white until you have replaced it.Not only that, but these cartridges run out quickly AND they still have ink left in them when they do. Some older Epson models allow you to reset the chip so that the printer thinks it is full again, but not this model. With this model, they've created a device that keeps you paying for more ink cartridges.I wish I had done my research and bought another printer.
