I found holding the probes and pushing them easily into the soil prevents problems with the unit. I have not confirmed the accuracy of the readings. I would recommend this to my friends. | This gimmick is trash complete QS9000 FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH U.S. STANDARDSFebruary 25, 2016 This thing is useless mine doesn't work period not on light nor ph and why would i check just the the ph of my soil i need to see ph of water too. That didn't seem clear to me i put in my dirt just after watering and needle never moved. I had it right under my stovevlight needle never moved. Received 2 of them and neither workedJanuary 7, 2016 I had intended to purchase only a moisture meter but saw this 3 in 1 tool that included light and pH measurements. It didn't cost much more than the moisture meter so I figured that it was a good deal. Unfortunately, none of the 3 functions worked. Amazon has an excellent return policy so getting a replacement was easy. The replacement registered the moisture but was completely dead for both the sunlight and pH measurements. I ended up sending it back for a refund and purchasing separate tools to measure sunlight and pH. Since I received 2 of these and neither of them worked as intended, I would say that's a pretty good indication that the overall quality of this product is bad.
