Five Star Reviews: | 55% Crackhead proof April 6, 2017 Watch a crack head on our camera system spend 15 mins trying to break into my studio. He never got in. 👌 Great Lock January 29, 2016 Chose the wrong lock for my doorBut a great lock, well made for the right door Wonderful lock, and it is not that hard to install. December 28, 2015 The place we stayed when we traveled in Taiwan couple months ago had a lock like this, and we enjoyed the lock and really think it was a super cool thing to use. Now we are back to the state, we miss the lock and are so glad to find it on Amazon. It is not hard to find installation video on Youtube. Husband and I are not handy people, at first we thought we would have problem installing it, but some how, we made it. It took us like 30 minutes with back and forth checking the video and drilling, etc. Now we have the same in our house and we really love to hear the sound that it makes when it auto locks the door or unlock it. Wonderful lock to have and it is not that hard to install. We are so glad that we got one. I read a lot of bad reviews but we must understand this isn't an American ... December 8, 2015 I received my SHS-2920 in the mail today and installed it myself! I tweaked it by using longer screws because my door is thick!! You can align the plate where you want it in the front of the door because you can maneuver the back to position it to align with the front (which I didn't realize until later. The maker also provided extra strike plate backings (3) if needed in order for it to fit snug closer to the lock! I read a lot of bad reviews but we must understand this isn't an American made product therefore the manual isn't in English and I'm sure their door standards are completely different!! It would have been nice had they ensured all information was disclosed in the product information (the strike plate must sit atop of the trim as well as photos of the back of the product)! I considered drilling inside the frame for the strike plate to fit firmly inside instead of on top of the trim but may decide to do that at a later date. I had to search the internet for assembly assistance!! My lock kept sticking when I initially tried to lock it then I realized I had to move the strike plate further away from the lock then wallah, it now works effortlessly! I truly like this product as I hope you will too! This project isn't a common sense project but if you're determined you'll make it fit and work! Contact me if you need assistance, I know a little summin' summin!! I'm considering ordering a few more! Good luck! do it yourself after watch instalation video at youtube July 14, 2015 easy to install...actually my door have 37mm and i didnt have problems with it...Watch the vídeos and drill! very happy with that April 19, 2015 almost 2 month that is on my door, very happy with that, like feature locking automatically within 3 seconds.my door thickness is 7 cm and I used special bolt (same type but a bit lengthy) for that and works perfect. | 67% Just as described September 28, 2017 We purchased the brushed nickel unit from Home Depot two years ago and LOVE it. We just moved and needed a second one in bronze, but Home Depot didn't have it in stock. We can't tell a difference at all in quality, and the bronze color is just as described. As far as the electronic keypad goes in general, we really love the convenience. It's impossible to lock yourself outside, and you can give house guests their own code if needed. I don't have to carry keys when I go for a walk or run, and I don't have to dig in my pockets for keys while carrying groceries in. I'll never go back to a regular deadbolt! This deadbolt looks really nice and was very easy to install September 20, 2017 This deadbolt looks really nice and was very easy to install, even using the SmartKey function to make my existing house key work. It is now so easy to have people come pet sit for me- no more worrying about hiding keys or giving/picking up house keys from people. I bought this during Black Friday 2016 and so far I have only had to change the batteries once- it didn't give me the red flashing light indicating the batteries were dead, some of the keys didn't seem to be working as well, so I just put in fresh batteries and it was working fine again. For a basic electronic lock, this was a good buy. highly recommend this one September 12, 2017 Best ever! I had some experience with these at work (Model Home Center) and would highly recommend this one. The touch screen models tend to fail very quickly. Especially if the front of your home is exposed to eccessive heat. Easy to install. Love the rekey tool so you can use your existing keys. Put this on my elderly parents home so my family could easily check in on them. They love that they don't have to carry a key with them everywhere they go. Quality, Easy to set up and use. June 21, 2017 We've had this deadbolt for about 6 months and we love it! My friend and mother already bought one because of how easy they are to set up and use. The battery appears to last quite a while. We have not had to replace it yet. I'll probably buy another one for our basement entrance. Looks great and very functional. May 1, 2017 This item came today and all I can say is wow easy to read directions . Very easy to install, I keyed 2 locks the same so easy and fast. I just bought 2 more today The Item shipped was actually model 910 looks the same but not sure the 909 has these features. that I really like. On the inside of your door of the lock has a knob that you turn open or lock and when locked it flashes a red light every 10 sec to let you know its locked. My door is down a long hallway so now I just have to look for the flashing red light to make sure its locked . it also flashes green when un locked. Awesome improvements! Same great price as years ago... December 25, 2015 I'm pretty handy but installing this was a cinch! took 10 minutes. Read the instructions for sure. Programming codes is easier than the actual installation. They buttons light up VERY nicely AND there's a new feature you can toggle on/off yourself. When the door is locked or unlocked from the inside, a tiny marquise shaped plastic light under the manual lock/unlock on the inside switch flashes amber or green. It flashes every 6 seconds. Amber is locked, Green is unlocked. It's a great feature I think and again, you can toggle this feature off on the circuit panel where you program the codes. ALSO the new feature is a lockable (wasn't like this for model from years ago I still have on one of my homes) back battery/change code panel. There's three screws that you need the special (included obviously) allen wrench to open and change codes, toggle settings or change batteries. Pretty nifty and a necessary addition for security. The unit still has the security feature the will beep for 20 seconds THEN lock you out for a few minutes if someone tries to guess the codes. The beeping is pretty loud too. |
Four Star Reviews: | 19% Modern look and features on old style door. October 2, 2017 I needed a lock that would fit an old style door (house from 1930's) as my entry door had the old skeleton key lock with a spring style lock above it and I was tired of worrying about locking myself out and fumbling with the old lock. This lock solved my problem. Was fairly easy to install and has had no issues since installing. The catch that goes on the frame took a little to get adjusted so that the lock went into it smoothly. Only real complaint at the moment is the rfid sensor isn't real powerful I usually need to touch the card or dongle against the loch before it detects and unlocks the door. Easy to install and I love it! May 29, 2017 Easy to install after watching a random Japanese YouTube video! I lose keys like crazy so this was the next best option. It works as it says it does. The only drawback is that the sticker chips don't really work. The rest of them do though. Overall solid performance. March 17, 2017 Installation instructions was a youtube link to some Russian made video with 680 views. It was adequate though. Samsung designed this to be easy to install and as universal as possible. It took me around half an hour to mount on my door. There are three major components: the Front with the touchpad/RFID sensor, the Back with the locking mechanism, and the strike plate (where the bolt sticks into to lock). The strike plate comes with spacers and can be mounted on the door frame, or a wall perpendicular to the door frame. That is, the strike plate has two 'holes' for the lock to insert into. You will need to drill a 32mm hole in your door or use an existing one (like if you took off an old lock). You will also need to drill included self-drilling screws into the door frame to mount the strike plate - you cannot use your existing strike plate that's in the door frame. With that description, i'll list some pros and cons.Pros:Easy to install. Instructions in a strange youtube video.Easy to setup. Instructions on paper in so-so english. But still very intuitive. Many features like auto-locking, dual authenticationkeycard for your wallet, keychain for your keys, keytag (i stuck mine on my iphone case)Solid, predictable performance with audio cues.High quality and attractive construction.Cons:Your RFID card/tag/keychain needs to be almost touching the sensor in order to work. I think they should make it have a range of at least a few inches. The strike plate has to be mounted very close to the locking mechanism. I think the bolt should stick out farther.Related to above, the door won't auto-lock unless a switch is depressed fully. Again, this means the Back and the strike plate need to be mounted no more than a half inch apart. I used a spacer where the switch contacts the strike plate so it seems that they are closer than they are.I wish there was a sound setting between quiet and silent. Quiet still seems loud to me.This should go without saying (unless you're me) but this can't replace a door handle because you can't close the door with nothing to grab onto. I need to buy a spring door closer.Cons: It's great living without metal keys! July 16, 2015 This device has completely changed my approach to keys and access control. It’s amazing how different it is living without conventional metal keys.I installed two of these locks in November, on two different condo doors, and so far both have worked flawlessly since, in a wide range of weathers and temperatures. Also, so far neither has beeped me to tell me it needs its batteries replaced, which for almost 9 months of continuous use is impressive.I deliberately chose the version without the inbuilt key lock because the cheap conventional lock on that model can be easily “bumped". I wanted something that looked sleek and unusual and would make your average burglar with a bump key go elsewhere.Installation was much easier than I expected. I don't have a lot of knowledge about door locks, so I especially liked this model because I didn't have to make any new holes in the door, or enlarge existing ones. After taking the old lock out, I just used the hole in the door that was left behind to thread the cables through and then screwed the inside and outside faces of the lock to the door where the lock plate used to be. I then attached the supplied bracket onto the door frame with a couple of big long screws to receive the deadbolt.I use all three types of RFID key that come with the lock. The white plastic credit-card keys serve as temporary keys to give to guests, or to a maid. The key-fob key is my default key, attached to the same ring as my car keys. And the sticker keys are attached to my phone and to my wallet, so that even if I forget my key ring, I can still get in. I just press the phone or the wallet against the door and it opens. In fact, even if I forget everything and lock the door behind me, I can still get in, by entering the pre-programmed code on the keypad. For someone who constantly forgets his keys, or thoughtlessly locks the door behind him without checking he has keys with him, this lock is a lifesaver! Also, it’s great not to have to take keys with me on my morning run. I take my phone with me (using the Nike app) so I can just use the sticker on my phone to get back in at the end of the run. Finally, I especially like it that the deadbolt automatically activates behind me whenever I come home. Means I don’t have to remember to lock the door at night.I have only two minor gripes. First, the bracket is a little too wide for the deadbolt, allowing the door to feel a little loose when locked. An opportunistic burglar, testing different doors, might think the door is an easy forced-entry target if it feels loose. So I attached some rubber bumpers to the inside of the deadbolt bracket. It requires a little more force to close the door now, but at least it fits snug and firm. Second, if I need to disable a key (because, for example, a guest accidentally took it with him instead of returning it), I have to reprogram all the keys again, instead of just being able to invalidate one.Overall a great domestic RFID lock. | 16% Keyless entry that installed fast, but it’s louder than I’d like. November 5, 2017 Installation took about an hour. I was replacing a Kwikset deadbolt so nothing had to be drilled out.My lock came with scratches on the front and a screw wedged in the body of the lock. It looks like this item may have been returned or something, though all of the little bags of screws were unopened. I am disappointed that my brand new lock came scratched.Be aware, this lock beeps with each button press and the motor that moves the deadbolt is kind of loud. I’m in an apartment so I hope my neighbors don’t get annoyed by the noise.Re-keying was practically instant and I’m so glad I get to keep all of my existing keys.I had to relocate the chain I had on my door, as I couldn’t install the battery tray with it in its original position.I just finished installing it, so is can’t speak to its longevity, but so far it’s working perfectly. I wish the cover had a latch instead of screws which will make it annoying to program more codes and change the batteries.Overall, the ability to rekey it to my existing keys made this purchase worth it. So far, I’m happy with it. Excellent style and function, especially so for the price. Just read ALL instructions & you'll be quite pleased. October 11, 2017 I read several reviews before buying this item to add to my recent Kwikset handleset, and I'm glad I did. I like the satin finish and the unit feels solid once mounted. The plastic piece inside over the top of the manual latch covering the electronics wasn't impressive until mounted in place and tightened properly. It then seemed "solid" like the metal looking finish should. If you take care in mounting and read ALL the instructions before attempting any of the steps (heaven forbid), you'll have an easy installation. Also reading will make you aware of a number of options that can be turned on or off with tiny DIP switches. Turning off the keypad beeps, 6 second status light blinks, and the 30 second auto lock, etc., should easily give you a year's worth of battery power (4 AA's) without losing the ability to turn on keypad lights at night (press the lock button to see the keys lighted - handy note in instructions!). The Smartkey system is also fabulous and really does work in less than 30 seconds to reset to another key! I also like the master code option so that one of the other 8 codes that unlock the door can't be used to reprogram the other lock codes. Only dislike is the strike plate has a HUGE bolt hole that exposes much more of the drilled hole in the door jamb than necessary and is quite a bit bigger overall than the standard size. This required the recess of my original plate to have to be chiseled a bit larger. In fairness though, it does provide 2 of the 4 screws as being large and long to truly secure the plate into the 2x4 framing under the jamb board. Silly to have solid lock and weak jamb plate it secures to. Finally someone includes REAL screws to secure the plate! No Keys September 25, 2017 We have really enjoyed this gadget....no keys, no having to find keys and no having to leave keys for housekeeper or others. The installation was easy, directions were clear and so far we are 3 months into it and have not had to change the batteries yet. My only complaint is the noise the lock makes when locking/unlocking. It is a little louder than I would like, though some may like this as it would definitely let you know someone was coming in but for me, it makes my dogs bark. I think buying a more expensive model would remove this issue. Great lock, not so great customer service February 14, 2017 It installed fine, wasn't difficult to do at all if you follow the well written instructions. But I had a question so I called customer service. After being on hold almost 1/2 hour and still no idea when someone would answer, I hung up and sent an email. FIVE DAYS later, I get a generic response which was a little help. Anyway, I figured it out in the meantime and overall I'm very happy with the lock and its features. Good lock, but the interior pieces are plastic. October 12, 2016 I had to knock off one star because the parts that mount on the interior side of the door aren't actually brass, they are plastic with a brass-like finish. Other than that, this is a great lock. I installed the previous version (the Kwikset 907) in 2003 and it worked flawlessly for 13 years. It finally stopped working a few days ago, so I bought the predecessor to replace it. I think I'll probably get another 13 or more years out of this lock. A great choice March 17, 2016 I love this lock and am very pleased with the quality and ease of installation. All my locks and deadbolts are Kwikset so the install was a simple replacement. However, the instructions are very clear. Another point, the screws for the jam are extra long and should give added support and strength. The only reason I didn't give five stars was because the said don't use rechargeable batteries. I use Panasonic Eneloop rechargeable batteries in other devices and love there performance so I ordered some with the lock. I am using them and don't see any performance issues but I will monitor this and may have to change. That being said about the batteries, I think the lock is a great product since I hate carrying keys! |
Three Star Reviews: | 10% Huge stress reliever but installation process is not perfect. June 15, 2017 I installed it to replace an existing deadbolt, and it went into the door perfectly. It looks great, and functions exactly as desired. No worries about locking myself out, nor worries about forgetting to lock the door behind me. In that regard it's a huge stress relief. The installation videos it links to are in Russian and pretty rough looking, but they show you what you need to know, and overall it's pretty straightforward anyway. There are paper instructions in English and Korean too, so that helps as well. The piece that mounts to the door frame was a bit of a challenge though. First, my door has some rubber padding around it for weather sealing, so because of that I needed to make some extra spacers to lift the piece off the frame a bit more. The spacers it came with weren't enough, the bolt would hit the piece and refuse to lock unless you deliberately pulled or pushed the door closed. I cut a new spacer out of some 3mm plastic and that solved the problem. Also, it comes with four screws to mount that piece to the doorframe but they're WAY too short and didn't grip the wood at all (I managed to rip it right off the doorframe during testing). I ended up buying some 3" wood screws and a long drill bit from the hardware store and using those. Make sure you get ones that fit through the holes, the ones I got were just slightly too big but they worked anyway. It's mounted very, very strongly now but compared to the ease of installing the lock itself, that part was a lot more difficult. Also, when you install it, make sure you register all 16 of the RFID cards at once, because according to the instructions, if you try to register a new one, it unregisters all the others until you re-register it. In other words, if you, say, register 4 cards, and give them to your relatives living across town, and then you decide to register a 5th one, your relatives will have to bring the card back so you can re-register it. That could be an enormous headache if you're not careful, so you're better off just registering them all at the same time and keeping them in a drawer somewhere. The plus side is, it takes about 2 seconds to register each card so it's not hard.Still, for the price and features and so on, I'm very happy, just be aware that it will help to be a little bit handy when you're installing it. I like the item and it looks great but I can't ... October 2, 2015 I like the item and it looks great but I can't program it for anything. I haven't given up because I like it! There will be follow up comments. It looks very nice and easy to open the lock when using with ... November 25, 2014 It looks very nice and easy to open the lock when using with the rfid card. But it can only has 1 password at a time. It will be more useful if I can add more passwords and delete them individually. | 5% Good when it works, so-so reliability October 19, 2017 2 stars knocked off due to poor reliability. This is my 2nd one (first one bought from Home Depot). The first one only lasted a couple years before the keypad gave up. I noticed some small differences between the new one and the previous one; hopefully kwikset improved reliability. In terms of performance, I've had almost 0 complaints from house members, so that's a good start. I was only getting complaints when batteries were low and needed changing. Unfortunately, this device is really not good at warning about the state of its batteries. Three Stars September 13, 2017 Sometimes it's too fast locking the door other times too slow and other times it don't work at all. I don't use it yet. I am not sure ... August 24, 2017 I don't use it yet. I am not sure if I want to risk that this may not work and I am locked out, because the comments also saying hat the key lock for some does not work. Brand new, installed, and 75% of the time ... May 11, 2017 Brand new , installed, and 75% of the time the mecanism wouldbt actually unlock! Easy to install but isn't very classy looking January 1, 2017 This was easy to install on my existing door, and I'm not a pro at this stuff at all (I'm a 53 year old woman!) Instructions were easy to understand. It is handy to have on our back door because I tend to go outside through the front door, go to the back yard and discover I am locked out of the back door. Using a code I can get in without walking all the way around the house. The only thing I'm not really impressed with is the inside housing is a shiny plastic brassy material and it is rather cheap and tacky 1980's looking. Luckily it is on my back door so nobody sees it but me because it is kind of tacky looking, I'll get a nicer looking one for my front door if I get one. Seems to work fine though if you can overlook the cosmetics of the thing. Wake the dead January 15, 2016 NOISY! There was a 909 that was already installed in our house when we bought it. It works great. However, it's just noisy. There's no reason to buy one of those fancy locks with the alarms, for the neighbors know when you enter and leave your house with this one. Now we did look at them at Home Depot, they were quiet. I thought it was just the fact that ours was older. Well, we bought this in hopes it would be as quiet as the Home Depot one. Nope, I was wrong. I'm pretty sure that it's the type of door you have that makes the motor noise. This one goes back until I can find a quiet one. |
Two Star Reviews: | 3% The bolt works vertically. September 9, 2015 The latching device operates vertically not horizontally as traditional deadbolts. You would have to mount this lock at the top of the door and drill new holes for the bolt. | 5% Keypad backlight stopped working after 2 months. September 22, 2017 The keypad backlight that lights up the buttons at night stopped working after just 2 months of use. Lock still works but the backlight was really nice to have when it’s dark. This lock would be simple to use and install if ... September 8, 2017 This lock would be simple to use and install if the metal tubing holding the lock had not come apart during installation. Once this happened, other parts came apart and I could not put it back together. Need to make it easier for adjustments to fit your door. Otherwise I guess you could hire a locksmith, but that would be expensive. I have installed similar locks with ease and no issues. ... installed this but the initial set up wasn't as easy as it seemed July 24, 2017 My fiancée installed this but the initial set up wasn't as easy as it seemed, we can't rekey it because it won't take our original home key and the key pad always lights up red, doesn't go green as it should or as the videos show. Self-install did not work, even though the door was ... March 7, 2017 Self-install did not work, even though the door was already fitted for a deadbolt. Tried contacting them for technical support and got no help. Won't be making another purchase from Kwikset again! Good device but packaging lacked full set of hardware November 23, 2016 Only two stars because package did NOT include the SMARTCODE rekey instructions and did NOT include the U and V bolts to complete installation (had to buy replacement bolts at local hardware outlet.Despite the disappointing lack of hardware, the unit itself appears to be working properly. Overall Disappointed September 28, 2015 I was excited to get this on sale, literally the day after I bought the matching handle set. So disappointed. It feels and looks very cheap. It will not lay flush against our door on either side. Our old and the new deadbolt I had just installed, did not have this problem. Also, the code will lock and unlock the door, but the bolt will not go all the way out or in with the door closed. We found out this is because of the coverplate for the jam it came with. Again neither of the other locks had this problem. I mean we can make this work, and it does; but it looks so cheap and tacky, with the missing coverplate and the fact that there is a noticeable gap on both sides between door and lock. Blah, would not purchase again, especially after going back reading other reviews. |
One Star Reviews: | 13% The frontal painel doesn’t show the numbers, I lost ... November 1, 2017 The frontal painel doesn’t show the numbers , I lost the key and I have no way to go inside my house !!! I tried to chance the batteries but didn’t work. I tried to find something about this lock in the internet and there is no information !! What do I do now ????? Didn't Seem Very Secure August 26, 2015 I returned the unit. The lock mechanism is secured to the back of the door meaning the dead bolt does not go into the door frame, instead the 'strike plate' (hole where the dead bolt goes) needs to be screwed into the surrounding decorative wood using two screws that only attach to the decorative wood . It seemed to me that the decorative wood surround was not very strong and would not stop someone forcing the door. | 7% Quality Control Issues July 21, 2017 Once I installed the lock and tried to plug in the cable, part of the connector was improperly molded at the factory causing thepins to break and rendering the lock completely useless. Called Kwikset and they acknowledged that it sounded like a factory defect. Opted toreturn the lock.Obvious quality control problems at their manufacturing facility. Also compared the weight to a Schlage lock I've used in another location andwas surprised how light it was. Buttons will not work properly. July 18, 2017 I ordered this lock in May and didn't install it until June. Within 1 week of installation two buttons quit working. The button for #'s 3&4 and the Lock button will not work. I have replaced the batteries twice. My window of return was only one month. Now I have a lock that is not fully functional! The return window should be longer. Very disappointed. This is very annoying especially when the lock is to be installed in ... June 19, 2017 I received this deadbolt lock that was defective. The inside latch would only turn a quarter of a turn. So when I programmed out side key pad the lock would not move. This is very annoying especially when the lock is to be installed in a different state. Really disappointed. December 7, 2016 My builder installed as part of my home renovation this fall and the lock will not work. I am passed the return deadline but the lock does not function at all. Really disappointed. Disappointing product! December 1, 2015 Installation was smooth and pass code setting was also straightforward. I thought it would be a good product although there some bad reviews. However, pass code started not working after a week. My family started be afraid of opening this lock even with the key since some part inside the lock seemed to hold the key to be turned. you have to turn hard and use a lot power to open it. Big disappointment! I opened the lock and tried to figure out what was wrong. I found the front part with key hole was good and problem came from the back part. Something blocked the knob from turning. I sprayed some W4D and it's better. But still if you use keypad to lock or unlock it, the problem comes again. Now we only use the key to operate it. The keypad is only a decoration. Very bad product!!! |
