" Programming the thermostat was easy enough to figure out without reading the manual
October 4, 2017
Having moved from an apartment with a programmable thermostat to a house with an ancient old-fashioned one, we were missing the ability to "set it and forget it." Programming the thermostat was easy enough to figure out without reading the manual, and it's much more convenient than resetting the temperature several times per day. My only complaint is that I don't think you can copy-paste schedules from one day to another; given how common it is for people to have the same schedule Monday through Friday, you'd think they would make that a feature. But because programming the schedule is only done once at the beginning (...and maybe when the batteries run out, I guess) I don't think it warrants reducing my review to four stars.
Easy Install & Quality Product
June 20, 2017
Extremely satisfied with this product and purchase! I received it early, installation was surprisingly easy (I am not very "handy" but had no problem doing it myself), and programming the schedule was simple. (Below, I included extra information about items received, tools required for installation, observations/comments)Received: thermostat, installation guide, screws/anchors, wire labels, operation manual and reference card.Install: you'll need a drill (to prepare the holes for the anchors), a Phillips head screwdriver (optional - just depends on preference for installing/tightening the screws), a leveler (they provide a spot to put it to ensure it is straight), a small slot head screwdriver (used when connecting the wires), and 2 AA batteries.Comments: even though the installation is pretty easy and simple, the installation guide does not explain or everything as clearly as it could have so that is the only thing I had any issues with
Easy setup

I have a very old furnace and AC system in my apartment and the old style thermostat that just listed every ten degrees would not hold a consistant temperature. This holds a consistant temperature even with the old system. It was also easy to install and get running. One trick, if you're trying to test it at first it will keep trying to lock you out since it goes into a mandatory hold period so it doesn't cycle the system on and off too much. Just pop the batteries each time out and you can keep switching it on and off to make sure it starts all of your systems without having to wait in between each.
INSTALLATION WAS EASY - WORKING GOOD SO FAR
September 25, 2012
Saw this unit at Lowes Home Center, got it here at Amazon a bit cheaper. I viewed some You Tube videos on installing these, and it seemed straight forward enough. The installation was EASY! Didn't even need to label the wires, they were color coded exactly like this Honeywell is. Even the mounting holes lined up perfectly. Took all of 15 minutes to install. I'm presently using it manually until I get around to setting up the programming. I installed 2 units since I have 2 completely separate zones/systems. Both my systems are "standard" central AC & gas heat. No heat pumps. Only thought is the screen isn't the easiest to see for these old eyes, but it IS readable. If you touch the screen, it does light up and makes it easier to see the info. The product photo is a pretty good approximation of how the screen looks with the backlight ON. I will update this review if any issues should arise.
Just perfect!

2017 Update (6years?) - still going strong. Relocated this unit to a new house. Works well. Programmed the whole year, i.e. cold and heat for summer and winter, respectively. After reading the reviews I decided to purchase this programmable thermostat. I love it! It was very easy to install as the instructions are well-written and easy to follow. Programming it was also very easy and logical. You are able to program each day precisely according to your household's routine for when you wake up, depart for work/school, return home and go to bed. This unit will heat up (it's winter now) your home to the scheduled temperature so that when that time comes, it is already at that temperature e.g. If you want it at 77 when you return home at 6pm, it heats up your home BEFORE 6pm so exactly 6pm, it's at 77. Pretty cool, huh. I also noticed that my home is more uniformly heated than with my previous programmable thermostat (different brand). Also, I'm able to warm up my home and get thesame level of comfort at 1 to 2 degree lower than before. I look forward to saving some real dough this winter!
Well worth the cost

I have looked at this product for quite a while. I've held off...trying to justify the purchase. Hind sight is 20-20 and my purchase is long over due.My heat pump is an older model, circa 1996, with electric back up heat. My real concern was if this would be compatible with my heat system and wiring in the new Honeywell.Wiring labels were provided in the package and the instructions were helpful. With all the different types of heat systems it is understandable that the instructions were a little vague. I had a question on one wire from my old stat, but a call to customer service and it was quickly solved.Programming did take time. My one complaint was that you could not copy one day's programming to the next. Each day must be individually programmed. It also is more sensitive than my old mercury stat and does not cycle the system as often. So far it is working like a charm. The real test will be this winter when temps really get cold

Nice unit
October 31, 2017
Works as advertised. Got it two bucks cheaper here than at Menard's. Realising we only paid $22 for this, that little black smudge in lower right of display which some complain about, and is only visible when the light is on, is very insignificant and of no consequence. Silly people. Since wife is home all day, I have wake, leave, and return all programmed with the same time and temperature of 72° @ 5:45 a.m. Sleep is set for 65° @ 11:00 p.m. everyday. Weekends have wake, leave and return set for 8:00 a. m. The backlight feature is really nice in our darker hallway. Lights up when pressing the run button to check time and temperature. Fairly easy to program. Recommended.
Works Well; Programming Easy
October 5, 2017
The product arrived on time as promised. Although I am pretty handy with electronics and am pretty literate having a Juris Doctorate, I had trouble following the printed included instructions when it came time to program the thermostat. Fortunately YouTube had several videos showing how to operate this particular thermostat. After watching one, programming seemed easy. I am satisfied and can report that it works well.
Simple and easy to install
May 20, 2017
Our old thermostat wasn't controlling the temperature at all and we actually thought we had a problem with our AC. I decided to try this first, and didn't want something fancy. I installed this today, which took less than 30 minutes start to finish with clean up and finding my screwdriver. The AC came right on and my house finally cooled down!It isn't super fancy, but the programming is pretty nice and our old one didn't have that option. It's been at least a month and it is still doing well.
Well worth the money

Excellent thermostat. Easy to use and to install.update: thirty days after installing I got up one morning the screen was blank. Nothing worked. Changed batteries, nothing. Hit it on the palm of my hand and it started up again. This makes two in a row I had the exact same thing happen.
Works great. Tip

Works great. Tip: Don't do what I do -- read the damn instructions first. Rule #1 - LABEL THE WIRES. I foolishly assumed yellow would go in the Y slot, but in my case it went in the W slot...and Blue went in the Y slot. Had to pay a Just Answer HVAC guy to help me straighten out the mess of my own making.
It works
August 28, 2016
This thermostat does exactly what it says it is going to do. It was easy to hook up, easy to program, and if you are on a regular schedule like myself I don't see the point in spending a few hundred dollars on a smart thermostat when this can do the same thing for 25 bucks. To hook it up I just removed the old thermostat, took a picture of the wiring, then wired this up the exact same as the old one. You do need a very tiny screwdriver to make the connections, but I think that is probably true of any thermostat. You also have to put batteries in it.

Pretty Good
February 9, 2014
I ordered this after talking to Honeywell's service department via phone. I was replacing an old Janitrol HPT 18-60. Honeywell service gave me 3 choices of replacements. This one was the highest priced but also the only one with a touch screen. I like touch screens so I chose it. Installation was easy just marking the wires/terminal letters when taking the wires off the old tstat - the needed labels are included with the Honeywell. Then just hooking those same wires to the same terminals on the Honeywell. Voila, we were done... and it didn't work. :( But alas, it was our fault. My assistant didn't notice step 12a on the back of the Quick Installation Guide. Once we performed step 12a - the tstat programming step needed if you have a heat pump - all worked fine. However, the reason for the 4 star and not 5 star rating, so far when the tstat calls for heat - in the morning to warm up after it has been low all night - it lets the AUX heat come on to raise the temperature. I'm hoping as it "learns" it will not do this but rather bring the heat up in slower increments so as to use only the heat pump and not the more expensive electric AUX elements. We'll see...
Product works great and was easy to install
February 10, 2013
I choose this product to help lower our gas bill by having fine grained control of the heating. I was leaving my heater on all day so that when I got home the house would be warm (without the heat on the temp drops to the low 50's), but this made my bill expensive. I have had it installed for only a week so don't know how well it is lowering my bill.I looked at a lot of reviews for digital thermastats and this unit had great ratings and won an award. It had the main feature I was looking for, let me turn down the temp when I am not home and before I get home have the temp set to what I like. Check out this article from energy.gov: [...]The hook up was simple because all my wires matched either the colors or letters in the manual. One thing I did have an issue with was the plastic inserts that are suppose to be put in the wall to hold the screws. The manual said for plaster these are needed and it gives me the diamenter to pre-drill the holes. Well, the diameter was two small and when I went to pound the plastic inserts in, they bent and broke. So, I just used the screws in the plaster. My concern is that when I open the unit to replace the batteries, the screws will be pulled out of the wall. If they are, I may have to get larger screws and use the plastic inserts. One improvement that I would like to see is the air filter replacement feature be based off of 'hours of use' instead of just 30, 60, or 90 days. This is because for part of the year I do not need heat or AC.....when the reminder alerts me I will have to guess if the filter needs replacing. The unit looks really nice on the wall and it lights up well.I would recommend this product. FYI, when I checked Lowes had this same unit for $99.99 and I bought it from amazone for $75.99 with free shipping.
The One to Buy - Why?
December 4, 2012
This thermostat is the one to buy. There is no need to look at the thousands of other thermostats or read any other reviews. I've done all that for you. Who knew there could be so many products out there to do 1 simple thing - program & run your heating/AC unit. Understandably I'm not a HVAC tech. I'm just a homeowner that's living on SS, a small pension, rental properties, & royalties. I'm also single, BTW. Amazon has the 7600 at an awesome price. It was $20 more at Walmart & Home Depot. The RiteTemp thermostat I took out was starting to act like a stubborn old man; something I know a lot about. It never was easy to use. The programming was cumbersome. The ambient air temperature would vary widely. My 84 y/o dad, who can no longer understand even simple things, would try to work it. That was an event that would take me 15-30 minutes to fix. For that reason I bought the locking cover for the Honeywell 7600.I think sometimes technical writers think too hard about how their material will be read. They attempt to make it as simple as possible and wind up leaving out important but necessary imformation. The only hang up I had in installation was the instructions didn't say the wire terminals were not the type that cut through the wire's insulation. The RiteTemp's instructions explained that. When I wired the Honeywell in I wired it like the old one. Well the wires needed to be bare to make contact. The tech info should also say in BOLD HUGE PRINT to mark the wires as they are on the old thermostat before disconnecting. I already knew to do this so it was easy to install. It was not in their instructions. It is totally programable from the touchscreen and this is where the writers did a good job. They made it cookbook-like steps. Just don't be intimadated by the codes. They are like measurements in cooking: teaspoons, tablespoons, cups, quarts... and putting in the ingredients at the right time. Now that the new thermostat has been controlling the heater for a few months, it really shows its superiority. It keeps the temperature even. That 84 y/o I mentioned above needs the house very warm. With all the functions programmed by the touchscreen screen, he can't mess with it. Actually, the locking cover key can be left in the lock because he can't figure out how that works. You want a thermostat to do it's job without thinking about it. That's what the Honeywell 7600 does. It is the One to Buy.
Works Great Especially in Midwest
December 3, 2012
I went with this model because I wanted a touchscreen thermostat that looked modern, had no physical buttons, was significantly cheaper than the Nest Learning Thermostat, and had a "system auto" mode. This unit met all of those requirements.I live in the suburbs of Chicago, and as those of us in the Midwest can attest, we have numerous days in the fall and spring that have 20 degree or more temperature swings. It can get up to 70 or 80 degrees in the afternoon and then drop down to 30 degrees in the evening. I am one who hates opening windows, as it upsets allergies, the dog, and I just don't like hearing every noise my neighbors make. So this unit allows the a/c to come on during the afternoon and the furnace to come on during the evening without me having to change anything during the day.I have mine set at 68 for heat and 72 for a/c. This way it is never colder than 68 or warmer than 72 in my home which is the perfect range for me.Installation was a breeze (I have a simple forced air a/c heat system) and setup was easy with the manual. The system auto mode has to be enabled under the settings and then actually selected as the option. Once I have installed it and setup my ranges I have not had to look at it again really. It looks great on the wall and the relay click is hardly noticeable.I do not use the scheduling so I cannot comment on that. I am not convinced that letting the house get up to 80 when I am at work and then cooling it back down to 72 right before I get home is actually any more energy efficient than just keeping it at 72 all summer long. My compressor runs for a few minutes a couple times an hour this way as opposed to running for 2 hours straight trying to drop the temp 8 degrees, so I do not use scheduling.
This Thermostat Is Hot and Kewel.......
October 16, 2012
OK, enough of the paronomasia. I bought two of these since we have a dual (up/down) system. We have the typical single-stage heating and cooling system; gas furnace and conventional A/C. However the installation manual has additional instructions for Multistage Heat and Cool, Heat Pump without Backup Heat, Heat Pump with Backup Heat, Heat Only or Cool Only systems. The manual is very straight-forward and easy to read. The Things I Like:1. Easy to install2. Great Documentation3. Fairly easy to set up the schedules4. Honeywell Quality and Reliability (I've used Honeywell for years)5. Touch Screen6. Very flexible settings allow you many choices in configuration.7. Has 3 choices for daylight savings time (off, early DST settings and current DST settings)8. Filter Change Reminder can be set between 1 month and 3 years (or can be set to off)9. Can be set to automatically switch between heat and cool or manual selection. The Things I Don't Like:1. Wall plate and thermostat don't have a good firm fit creating loose feel.(I fixed this by using some clear shipping tape on each side to hold the base and thermostat firmly together)2. Back-lite does not stay lit long enough for me when I'm setting the schedule.(would be nice to have a time-out setting for the length the lite stays on)3. Auto change over between heat and cool works well but to me it wastes energy trying to maintain a constant temp.(I choose to just manually switch between heat and cool when I feel it is time and it is great that they give you the option)4. You have to use AA batteries for memory back-up. Current technology does not need batteries for memory retention.5. You have to touch an area of the screen that has a control to "wake-up" the screen(I would prefer just to touch anywhere on the screen to activate the back-lite)Overall, I am very pleased with the thermostat and feel it is a great value for the money.
Works on heat pumps with back up heat given time
December 31, 2010
Edit to original review:I installed this on a heat pump with auxiliary heat and, initially, the AUX heat ran too often, as detailed below. However, given about 2 to 3 days to run as programmed, the unit stopped using AUX heat and functions great. I made not changes to the configuration, it just stared working correctly. I'm assuming the intelligent recovery program needs a little time to learn how to recover without use of AUX heat. I just wish the technical service reps had mentioned this need. All they told me was that my heat pump was malfunctioning. Since the heat pump worked fine before the replacement and it works fine now after a little waiting, I have a hard time believing that advice. I'm moving my rating up to 4 stars.--------------------------------------Original Review:For a heat pump with auxiliary heat - When the room temperature is 2 F cooler than the set point, the auxiliary heat comes on. I called Honeywell, and this parameter cannot be changed. Therefore, you cannot program the thermostat to reduce the room temperature set point by more than 1 degree without the auxiliary heat coming on to warm the room. Since this thermostat works with heat pumps with auxiliary heat, I expected to be able to set the heat to 60 F during the day, and have the temperature return to 70 F upon returning home without the use of auxiliary heat. The thermostat should have a ramp feature or some other logic to prevent the auxiliary heat from coming on in response to a set point change. When it's 60 F outside, there's no reason for electric auxiliary heat to be running to warm the room because of a pre-programmed set point change. So, with this thermostat, I will keep my house at a constant 68 during the winter, and use the programmable features only while running the air conditioner. If you have single stage heating, you will be pleased with this product. But if you have a heat pump with auxiliary and want to program temperature changes during the winter, you will be disappointed.

I took a leap and purchased this one and it was so easy to install
July 17, 2017
At first I was worried about replacing my thermostat as I have heard horror stories on issues they had. I took a leap and purchased this one and it was so easy to install. Everything was labeled and the instructions were very detailed. It took me about 10 mins to replace my existing thermostat and another 5 mins to figure out the programming. All in all it is a good thermostat for what I need it for.I did have the mark on the bottom right of the screen that everyone has complained about and it is strange to see but I don't plan on looking at my thermostat too often.
Easy to install, works great
June 5, 2017
I research every product that I buy online. After reading several reviews, I concluded that this was the best choice for my needs. I have a gas furnace and electric central AC. My old thermostat was calibrated about 2 degrees too warm, and there was no way to fix it, so for $23, it was worth buying a replacement. I looked at Lowes, but I didn't see this exact model in the store.I had never replaced a thermostat before, but this was extremely easy. I had my toolbox ready, including a small precision screwdriver, & it took me 7 minutes to install it. There are countless YouTube videos explaining how it's done, but the manual instructions are sufficient. The thermostat works great! It is simple to use. Programming it also dead simple. I like the fact that it doesn't have a hinged door that you have to open. All the buttons are always visible and easily accessible. The only reason I withheld a star in my rating is that the green LED screen has a bit of a smudgy looking flaw in the right 1/3 corner. It's not noticeable unless the screen is lit, but it's still a flaw, so I can't give it 5 stars. However, it works, it's easy to install, & the price is right. I would buy it again.
Not disappointed - good value
May 17, 2017
Easy enough installation. Has worked well so far. Display is not that easy to read without the back-light and the main numbers are a little smaller than I hoped.I am not using the cooling side since I have no air conditioning. It presented no problems working with a millivolt furnace.
Need a watch battery screwdriver but otherwise easy install...other issues
November 21, 2016
I replaced an ancient Honeywell round thermostat with this one. I was initially going to purchase a much more expensive model to hide the cabling better but I just put this on top of the old gold faceplate that came with the old honeywell thermostat. Looks fine. It took about 15 minutes to install. The tools you will need:-Ideally a power drill or impact drill with a phillips bit to remove screws, and install new screws- a watch battery screwdriver to connect the black and white cables.- The box does not come with one. After two months of using this unit, there were no cost savings. I just didn't have to adjust the thermostat each morning and evening. What did happen is that this caused my ancient boiler to run inefficiently (the boiler would come off and on consistently when cold) causing my gas bill to go up significantly. The aquastat had to be adjusted and the low setting and differential were decreased by a homeservice heating professional.
Pretty decent, especially for the price
August 15, 2015
Pretty decent, especially for the price. Two complaints: the LCD is poor quality and there is what appears to be "dust" (little black speckles) inside the LCD on the lower right hand corner. Other complaint is there is no C terminal so that the unit can run without batteries. The unit I replaced with this Honeywell was a super cheapo GemTech, but could be powered off the C wire, with batteries as a backup power source.Lastly, while not a complaint because I knew what I was getting, I wish they let you pick the degree difference when to turn on. +/- 1 degree is too little for my location, so it's turning on quite often. I know there is a workaround by selecting max number of times it turns on per hour under the advanced settings, but I prefer to set it by degree difference.
A lot of Pro's - Not so many Con's
July 14, 2014
7/14/14I just installed this thermostat two days ago and so far it seems to be working great! I have never in my life installed a thermostat and after watching a YouTube video, I was able to do it without calling anyone for help. It's very straightforward, especially if your wires are color coded. It comes with stickers to label the wires if you need to and it comes with the hardware needed to mount it to the wall. The only things I dislike - and the reason I deducted a star - is that it's really hard to pull the faceplate off. I'm a little worried next time I do it I might even pull the whole thing off the wall despite being screwed in. It also takes batteries only although from what I have been told they should only need replaced annually and even then it will tell you 60 days prior to it dying that it needs changed. Another downside is that every time you change batteries, you have to program your settings all over again. But that's just me nitpicking. For the price, it's well worth it and should save me a lot of money on my energy bill.

Functions well, easily programmed, runs ALL THE TIME
December 19, 2013
A feature of this thermostat is that it "learns" your house's tendencies toward heating and cooling and anticipates when it needs to turn on to reach the set points you've programmed in. While this feature is really cool in theory, I think our houses are different enough that it really doesn't work for all house layouts. The heat will turn on about an hour before it is intended to so that it tries to hit the set point you've programmed and that really can be annoying if you're laying in bed and it wakes you up with hot air and the sounds of the furnace. I'd rather be able to program that setting on and off but I don't think there is a way to do so on this unit. I can live with the features and programmability of the unit, but which I could bypass that "intelligence" setting so we aren't inconvenienced by it. And on a final note, I really think that this thermostat made our system run longer on cooling and heating this year which increased our utility bill, so I don't see this unit as a way to reduce your energy costs in your home.
Honeywell RTH7600D Touchscreen 7-Day Programmable Thermostat
June 8, 2013
Didn't like the contrast on the LCD, making it difficult to see for my aging eyes.It is nice to see both the setpoint and actual temp displayed.Installation was straightforward and not anything very tricky.I replaced the old round Honeywell thermo since that one occasionally got bumped and temp was inadvertently altered.Back lighting only stays on for a few seconds after touching screen. Would like to see a high contrast, possibly LED type display. In retrospect, I would have gone with the smaller screen unit with push buttons on the outside. This would accomplish the same thing at almost half the price.
It works but its temperature measurement is NOT faithful and making the heating system not as effecient as expected
February 24, 2013
Pros: I have this unit for my gas heat only system for several months now and it functions as specified except item 1 on Cons below. The touch screen is sensitive and works beautifully.Cons:1) the temperature displayed, which I believe the operation is depended on, is not faithfully measuring the real temperature, but altered by the thermostat operation. Everyone can prove this easily by just putting a thermometer next to this unit and watch. The close to its turning on and off time the larger the difference you can observe in temperature display. Its display is lower than normal before and right after ON and higher than normal before and right after OFF. Because of this “bug”, my gas heat system, if I am not mistaken, all the gas heating system, are turned off too fast in the temperature maintaining mode. It turns off in about 15 to 20 minutes and the radiators do not get chance to be heated (less than 10% of each radiator only started to get warn) . What a waste! If it allows to burn 5-10 more minutes, 50% to 70% of each radiator will turn hot.2) the usage history feature is missing for this model so there is no way to trace past usage like its old model CT3600, which tells you usage of today, yesterday and total since last reset.Wishes:I wish Honeywell can develop on/off control more than just 4 times a day, may be 16 is better, so that the temperature control can be customized to be more efficient for different heating situations.
To the end of the internet and back
February 14, 2013
Previous reviews are correct: All Honeywell thermostats have a very limited temperture swings, leading to more cycles for your furance or cooling units. Is that a problem, I dont know. You can change the cycle rate depending on what type of heating you have. Slower heating types, lower the cycle rate (hot water). Faster heating types, more cycles (hot air). How well those algorithms work on a very cold day, I dont know.It does keep the room very stable and is easy to program. One thing I did do, just in case, is to program the different times at varied tempertures. Cutting down on the number of cycles the furance does run just incase it is infact running the furance too much.
Not what I was hoping for..
October 24, 2011
Maybe I didn't read up enough on it which is my fault. What we were hoping for and primarily bought this for was the fall. When the temps get to the point that during the day you need the air conditioning on and at night you need the heat on, but hate having to flip a switch back and forth every night and morning. This does have the ability to switch back and forth between the two, but if you read the directions, it tells you not to put it in the AUTO mode on nights when it may get below 40 degrees Fahrenheit! Well, what's the friggin' point?!?!?! It says it can damage the compressor if you do, and who wants to take a chance on doing that? The installation was fairly easy, as easy as any thermostat can be. If you follow the directions, set up is fairly easy as well. It is easy to operate once installed, but it doesn't really do what we want it to which is set it and forget it! We are keeping it, but only because it is better than what we had and we will probably be replacing our whole system in a few years and will ask our HVAC contractor to get us one that does exactly what we want.
Might not save you money on heating and cooling bills
February 6, 2011
We purchased two of these thermostats for our home. Easy to install, and the backlit display is nice. But the factory preset options might end up increasing, instead of decreasing your healing and cooling bills. I noticed that the unit was coming on 15-30 minutes before I had programmed it, something Honeywell terms, "smart recovery" to get the room to the temperature you want, by the time you want it. The problem is, the unit doesn't know how long it will take to reach the desired temperature, so the room may be sitting at the desired temperature 5-15 minutes before you actually need it to be at that temperature. Also, I discovered that our furnace was kicking on as much as 7-8 times an hour, even though the temperature reading on the thermostat never fell below what I had programmed it to be. For example, I had the temperature set to 66. If the room dropped from 66.5 to 66.25 the furnance would turn on to prevent it from ever going below 66. Well, I don't care if I have to wait for the temperature to drop to 65, I would rather not have my furnance coming on 8 times an hour and save some money. I called Honeywell on both these issues, and they walked me through the steps to turn off the "smart recovery" and decrease the "cycling" for both units. If you replace a basic, cheaper digital thermostat with this one, you will probably see your utility bills increase. Honeywell should have an "energy saver" mode that is a one click option on setup that disables these money wasting functions. If you buy this unit, call Honeywell as soon as you get it and have them show you how to disable them.

This is my 3rd one. I bought first two for each unit in my house 5 years ago. One of them started acting up with flickering screen and lock ups after 2 years then it died few days ago. I tried resetting it and cleaning the contacts but it was completely dead. I didn't want to buy different one so I just bought same one so I don't have to switch out the backplate.

April 10, 2017
had the same issue as many others have. It works, but the LCD screen definitely looks like someone touched it and discolored it during install. Bottom right quarter of the screen is all fuzzy.
Poor Quality Control
April 7, 2016
I bought 3 of these at the same time. All 3 are in use but suffers the same material defect/poor quality control. All 3's LCD have dark patches at the same spot and pattern.
Some good news and some bad news.

UpdatedMy original purchase started "eating" batteries. A new set of batteries would be dead in about two or, at most, three days. Only about two days out of Amazon's replacement period, I contacted them and they would do nothing but advised me to contact the manufacturer (Honeywell).Honeywell told me that they would replace the thermostat but that it would take about ten days to receive my new one. As were were having a cold spell, fortunately I had kept the old bi-metallic one that had been there and I had to put it back. NOT a happy camper! The new one arrived as they said it would and, once again, I switched thermostats. The replacement has been working properly for several months now and no sign of batteries wearing out. Honeywell told me that a set of batteries should last about two years so it will take a while to see if they make it or not. I bought good quality premium alkaline batteries made in US so there should be no excuse for premature failure. In my opinion, Honeywell stood behind their product though I think they could have used expedited shipping but...AMAZON? NOT SO MUCH! TWO days and they wouldn't assist me! I now think twice about where I purchase my items even if they do cost a little bit more. Just the principle of the thing!
Your basic thermostat
December 9, 2015
Not super well made or fancy, but I don't think it's going to break tomorrow either. Mine came with a few spots on the screen that haven't gone away, though it doesn't affect the utility of the unit.
Easy install and setup, but lacks some user-control of temperature cycle.
November 16, 2014
I bought this at a local Menards store with assistance of the staff. I replaced an old round Honeywell mercury-switch model. Have the typical 2-wire setup for a very ancient (40 years old?) natural gas forced hot air furnace. I decided to squeeze some savings on the gas bill by lowering the temperature during the workday when I'm never home for 9 hours, and also drop temperature overnight as I like it cooler while I sleep.Installation was a breeze. I work as an office equipment service tech, so I did not expect any trouble figuring it out, your mileage may vary in that regard though. I had the required small screwdrivers on hand. The mounting template perfectly matched the old round thermostat, so I just reused the old screws in the original holes in the wall. As I customarily do, I did read the installation and setup directions prior to installation.Programming was also fairly easy. What you have to understand here is that there are 4 adjustable times of the day where the temperature can be allowed to change. Exactly what the amount I needed for my purposes. If you wish for fewer adjustments, just set 2 or more of the consecutive time events to be the same temperature. This is how I handled the weekend program, as I only wanted to lower the temperature at bedtime and raise again in the morning. I left the "away" and "home" at the same temperature as the "wake" setting to accomplish that. Again, you can adjust the time of day for these events in 15 minute increments. I did not see anything confusing about this other than I would forget to push the set button and think I was adjusting the temperature, and instead was changing the time. The numbers being adjusted flash, so that was just me not being observant. The reason for me giving 3 stars is this: there is no adjustment for temperature on/off cycle. That old mercury-switch mechanical thermostat was designed to turn on the heat a couple of degrees below the set temperature, and turn off heat a couple of degrees above. That allowed the furnace to cycle on fewer times, and not waste fuel warming the heat exchanger each time. This cheap Honeywell digital thermostat turns on the furnace with only a dip of 1 degree F, off after warming to set temperature. My furnace in my 100+ year old home with little insulation started cycling on every 12 minutes for short bursts of heat. Turns out that the temperature cycle is factory set and cannot change. The only way to gain some control of this is to go into the advanced programming features and adjust the "cycles per hour". Default setting was 5 (maximum) cycles per hour, thus the furnace turning on every 12 minutes (5 times per hour). I dropped this setting to 3 (20 minutes wait between cycles) and may readjust to 2 in the future. Naturally, the manual does not explain the cycles-per-hour setting other than generic recommendations for different types of heating systems. I can see this becoming a potential problem with actually causing me to use more fuel than with the mechanical thermostat. I'll just have to monitor my fuel use and re-evaluate later in the winter. I may need to bite the bullet and spend 2-3 times more for a different brand thermostat that will allow me to adjust the heat cycle to something that approximates the old thermostat more closely. Wish I had researched this prior to purchase now. Cycling the furnace on-off more often can also lead to it failing, and I do not see how taking a 3-5 year loan to pay for a new furnace saves me money. Everybody I know that replaced furnaces with higher-efficient models during the 1990's are replacing their expensive furnaces again. Mine keeps chugging along.11-23-2013: I bought the Honeywell trim kit http://www.amazon.com/Honeywell-50002883001-50002883-001-Coverplate/dp/B00096JC72/ref=cm_cr-mr-titleAfter installing, I am noticing that the temperature is tracking more correctly compared to a mercury thermometer on a nearby wall. I suspect that the trim plate is isolating the theromstat from the wall surface temperature (which is cool to the touch usually). The temperature is not fluctuating so badly. Furnace is not turning on at regular intervals this weekend. It's also a lot warmer outside, so again time will tell on this.

Microprocessor fried 16 months out.
June 19, 2015
Had this product for 16 months until microprocessor began confusing times and temp in the programming. Tech support which tried to be helpful identified the processor as the culprit. Unfortunately thermostat was outside of the warrantee.
Wish it worked
March 7, 2013
Recently had a new heatpump installed and was trying to get an upgraded thermostat. Would not work with our unit even tho our installer said he hooked it up right. He took it home and tried it on his unit and still wouldn't work. At some point I will have the heat pump installer try to hook it up since it is opened and I can't return it. I gave it a 2 star because Honeywell is a good name, but did not work for me. I found it difficult to program and disappointed when we came home to a cold house.
Hard on the furnace.
February 9, 2013
The unit looks very nice on the wall...very high tech and installation was pretty straight forward. However, I had to return it after the first night. It seems all of Honeywell's thermostats do not have a swing temperature adjustment. This means that when the house temperature drops below half a degree the heat kicks on and than runs until it's half a degree above the set temperature. I was laying in bed listening to my furnace cycle on and off all night every five minutes. I called a heating company the next morning and he said yes, that is very hard on the furnace. I love the looks of the thermostat and I thought Honeywell is a trusted brand, but I cannot afford to replace my furnace because of it.Kudus to Amazon for their return policy. I sent the return back in the morning and that evening I got a full refund. Very impressive!
Honeywell RTH7600 Touchscreen Programmable Thermostat
January 27, 2013
This thermostat doesn't work right with my furnace, I installed it, set it, I read all the instruction before I installed it.. I set it for 65 and it ran for an hour and the temp was at 75. I called the 800# and talked with a rep, for about an hour, mean time the temp just keep getting higher. After I checked all the wires again and followed all the directions that he gave me the temp was at 78.I have pictures with all the different settings--- so after the rep told me it was my furnace and not the thermostat, I called my heating man and he checked my furnace out and everything worked fine... So it cost me his bill and the price of the thermostat and again I'm using my old thermostat and it is working just fine. And all I wanted is the weekly setting, oh well, live and learn.
Not at all Intuitive
December 11, 2012
The operating manual is horrid, and the unit is not at all intuitive. For example, there are no options for overriding the program to turn anything on or off. If you want to manually turn the fan off, you have to select Fan Auto. The manual states Press SYSTEM & FAN to select fan operation. On: Fan is always on. Auto: Fan runs only when the heating or cooling system is on. No mention of how to toggle between those two options.
Does not work on all heat pump systems
May 17, 2011
I love the style, but I had to return it for a refund. No where in the description does it say it will not work with a heat pump that has 2 stages heat (aux heat). The instructions says to stop installing the thermostat if you have a W1 wire and contact your AC contractor. When you contact the Honeywell customer support line they will tell you even if you do contact you AC contractor, this Model still won't work with this type of heat pump. I have found most cheaper brands will work with my heat pump. I bought a Filtrete programmable thermostat with a 7 year warranty for half the price.

Didn't work for me
June 17, 2017
I have a heat pump and was unable to use since it was not compatible.
Poor quality and display features
May 22, 2017
For some reason this thermostat is incompatible with our A/C however it works fine with controlling our Heating...we changed it out thinking perhaps it was a faulty unit but had the same issue. The switches used to control the thermostat Heat/Cool and Auto/Fan are very stiff. The display shows current temperature only instead of both current and programmed temperatures. Personally we prefer both displayed.
Defective!!
October 5, 2016
I was looking for a user-friendly programmable thermostat for my parents to replace their manual unit, so I decided on this one. Unfortunately, the one I received was defective. The motherboard was covered with a putty-like substance. Unsure if this would affect its functionality, I returned it. But, for what it's worth, this model looks nice.
LCD Display Backlight is defective
July 29, 2016
The thermostat runs fine, it's great. The issue I have is with the display. Like many, many, other reviewers I received a unit with a black smudge in the bottom right hand corner that is only shown when the backlight is illuminated. I went to Walmart to get a new one, installed it, and saw it has the exact same issue. The complaints about this issue go back several years, and still they're being manufactured with this defect. Pretty dissatisfied over here.
works but quality is horrible..
February 20, 2016
first.. it was very easy to install. especially if you owned a similar one before and if you only have 2 wire heating system.. i installed it less then 10 minutes.. i think it took longer to find the screwdriver in the drawer..second. the product it self.. when i read the reviews everyone was complain that there was spotting on the lcd screen and i decided to get it anyway.. mine wasnt that bad but still there was spots on lcd.. kind of upsetting because the honeywell is a good company and for them to take out a product in this condition is unacceptable..finally.. would i recommend it.. it all depends if you need something cheap and works this is it..
Terrible at keeping a set tempurature, get what you pay for.
November 28, 2014
The only reason im giving it 2 stars instead of one is because it was inexpensive. This thermostat does not keep the tempurature well regulated. I purchassed this to replace the only analog dial looking one that was on the wall, and so far wish i hadnt. It is fairly easy to get set up and to program, but the thing just turns on and off the heat whenever the heck it feels like it. For example: i may have it programmed to just stay at 70 degrees all the time, and it may be 60 degrees in the house and you cannot get it to turn on the heat, then other times when the heat is running it will keep the heat at 78 degrees for several hours and wont turn the heaters off!Im assuming unless all 3 i got (2 from Aamzon one from Walmart) of the same exact model are all lemons that it is just terrible, because all 3 zones that i have in my house are doing the same thing.

Unit defective. Buttons on left side of the screen would not function. Backlight flashed a few times initially and then failed completely. Returned; different brand thermostat purchased instead.

November 24, 2014
They do not support system mode switching between heat and cool. Even had my AC professional on hand during phone call to honeywell support. He checked it A to Z I had it installed and setup correctly does not work. Had a second unit I bought and still does not switch. That's the entire point of purchase. My home thermostat switches without issue (this was for my commercial office).
Fewer than 2 years and corroded batteries!
July 20, 2014
This was a mistake. Not only didn't work as intended, it lasted fewer than 2 years. Also, Honeywell no longer has the user manual on its website....looks like they know this one isn't a winner. Do not waste your money with this model! Honeywell is a trusted brand, but this was a frustrating product with a short shelf life.
Product died after 2 years
June 10, 2014
I purchased this from Amazon a little over 2 years ago. Worked fine until we noticed one day that the thermostat was way off in reading room temperature - by 10+ degrees! We put thermometers around it and confirmed that it was faulty. There is no way to calibrate this thermostat, and it being out of warranty I"m SOL. Customer service in India wouldn't help. So buyer beware!
They don't like to honor the warranty
November 13, 2013
I bought this unit one year ago. It began to Mia function after about 8 months and would respond sporadically. I have reset it numerous times. It then works for a bit and then doesn't.I called Honeywell and talked to the service rep who was helpful, but useless. I then contacted the number he gave me for warranty and that is a recording, really? Is this some kind of a joke, I then asked for a replacement and got more run around , bottom line is spend more money and get something that works and not a toy. They honeywell people are not going to give you much satusfaction

I did not work for more than 3 days after installation. Our heating guy that installed the one we had to buy to replace this one said he sees this Honeywell programmable thermostat not work more often than not.

Dead on arrival
December 16, 2016
Display was blank. I discarded the old thermostat before realizing the new one was dead. Spent a few days without heat as a result. Wasted some time on the phone with tech support who instructed me how to install aaa batteries. Ordered a replacement hoping it would arrive sooner than another make/model, but it was a day late. Replacement is working now but can I trust it to turn the furnace off before the house sets fire?

I successfully installed this thermostat and it worked just fine. The problem is after all the work installing it, the thermostat will not stay snapped on the back. I'm returning it for a better product. Honeywell usually makes a better product than this. Not attractive when it just hangs on the wall. I tried to contact Honeywell and gave up because of the long wait.
Check Wire Labels Before Ordering
February 14, 2015
I have a standard central heat/air pump and this does not work on a "multi-stage" system (not sure how I could have determined that prior to trying to install this). Take a peek at your wires before ordering - I had a white wire labeled W2 which made this thermostat incompatible. On a positive note, Honeywell customer service was quick, very helpful and gave me a list of compatible models.
