Puuurs like a Kitten

Awesome Drone! I recommend getting this one. Unfortunatly I decided to fly this drone in my neighborhood at night instead of the park and I lost control because it was too high up and the wind got a hold of it. I ended up chasing this thing through side yards and back yards of peoples homes at night. Luckly, I found it in someone elses tree. It took me 5 min. to get that drown down from the tree with my shoe. After the 10th throw I got it down. Adventurous, it was but not worth it because I ended up breaking the drone by throwing my shoe at it. Moral of the story: Fly this thing in the daylight at a park or where there is a lot of space with no trees. Other than that, buy this drone.
Fun for you inner child

I bought this for my husband as a Christmas gift and he loves it. I love that it comes with two batteries because it gets about 7-10 minutes on each battery (depending on if you're recording). It's very light weight, which makes it easy for him to travel with and it's fun! He's been able to get about 50 feet in the air before beginning to lose control. Because it's light weight it helps if it begins to fall out of the sky, it's a soft landing. The controller also tells you about a minute before the battery is going to die, so you're able to get it down before it falls. Overall this is fun grownup toy!
A beginner's take on this drone.
January 4, 2016
I received this as a Christmas gift. I know absolutely zip about these things and am as much of a novice as a person can possibly be when it comes to drones. After getting it FAA registered, I took it out front of my house and promptly got it caught in a tree. I had to use a long shaft of bamboo to free it up which I was afraid would already break my new "toy". I was amazed to see that it was no worse for wear.Taking another go, I activated the camera and eventually became a bit more proficient at the controls. I will say that they are VERY user friendly and not at all difficult to get the hang of. I imagine time will make me an even better pilot. I did feel that the battery life was a bit lacking, but I really don;t know how to judge that aspect. The control pad starts beeping as your drone's battery life wanes, so that is nice to know.Overall, I am VERY happy with this drone and more than a little impressed with the image quality. I included the first two images that I captured as reference.
So much fun and so durable, this is a great value!

Bought this for learning and taking some aerial videos, and it has exceeded my expectations in many ways. The Video quality is better than I thought it would be, and it is very durable (I crashed it into, trees walls) it has even survived a landing in my pool. It only spent a few seconds in the water and I quickly dried it out with a hairdryer for about 45 minutes and it was flying again. I then managed to get it stuck in a tree too ( I blame this one on the throttle not responding fast enough) It spent a few days outside in wind and rain, recovered it and it is still flying!
WOW---Worth the Money. EXCELLENT Starter Drone
July 14, 2015
WOW. Worth every penny. Top 5 Best Toy I ever bought. Perfect for beginners. It took about 20 minutes to be able to get decent control. I purchased Drone, 5 extra batteries, charger and extra propeller blades (it came with extra and I bought more because they were cheap). For under $110 I had all of the above. It takes practice but it is Awesome. For an $90 Drone----the photos and video are excellent. Is it as good as a Phantom 2 or 3---hell no but the cost is 1/10. This is perfect for learning how to fly and when you can fly without a lot of crashing---upgrade. This Drone has taken hits by me on grass and black top and has survived. As of 7/13 I have about 90 minutes of flying time and confident now to fly over pools and houses and near trees. Being a "bird" is incredible. Buy it. For the money--it is a no brainer.
I love this thing

Amazing drone that is easy and fun.

So, I have been wanting a drone for the last few years. I have repeatedly put one into my cart and then backed out and deleted it. I didn't want to spend the money on a toy. Well, I finally pulled the trigger and could not be happier. The DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone is awesome.I was scared silly the first time I flew it. There was no reason to be. It was so easy to fly. By the end of the 10th flight, I already felt very comfortable flying completely out of view and quite far away. I am still a bit nervous about getting out near the mile mark, but I have a couple of time. One time I was even able to experience the loss of connectivity with the drone. I freaked out and started to run towards where the drone had been. Yep, no need to. Within a few seconds it had connected back to my pad and was already starting its journey back to me. The auto return home had activated and it was doing what it is supposed to do.The pictures are amazing. The 4k video is amazing. Only issue I have had is that my computer isn't powerful enough to truly enjoy and edit the video clips. I will probably have to upgrade that soon. However, I have posted videos on youtube that are amazing. Cannot say enough good things about this drone. If you have been waiting to buy one, you will not be disappointed with the DJI Phantom 3 Professional.
Really polished product
April 21, 2016
This review is a bit premature as I've only flown it once, but setup, firmware update, and the DJI Go app worked flawlessly on the first flight. I didn't get the video range I was expecting but discovered later it was set to "Custom" and it was on a congested channel. Hoping for better range next time. I have to say this product is very well designed and looks thorougly tested (from a development standpoint). The quad, transmitter, and app are all very polished and look like they are truly ready for prime time and that's not the norm these days it seems.I pondered getting a Phantom 4 but at almost double the price, now seemed like the perfect time to get a P3 Pro as it has a lot to offer. DJI Go app works without a hitch on my ~year old Nexus 6 although the Nexus 6 is a little "fat" with the case on to fit in the Tx holder. It barely secures it so I'll be looking for a solution for that. Don't need the phone falling off while I'm flying. Looking forward to more great flights with this and will update if any issues.
Phantom 3 Pro. The name says it all
April 6, 2016
This thing is a highly sophisticated and advanced piece of aeronautics technology. It is not a toy. The firmware and remote controller requires updating before operation. That consists of downloading the zip file from the Dji website, loading them onto the micro SD card, and inserting it into the micro SD slot on the gimbal. After that it's pretty automatic. First flight: DO NOT FLY INDOORS for the first flight. Attitude mode means it relies solely on the VPS sensors and does not have GPS guidance. In which case the bird can get a little squirrelly and takes practice and experience with the controls to know how to maneuver without GPS. To stop the motor when landing, either initiate the Return to Home function (in which case the drone will land itself) or put the sticks both down and inward for an instantaneous canceling of the motors, or put the left stick down for 2 seconds and the propellers will stop. The camera on the phantom 3 professional is extraordinary. The gimbal is magic. The performance and maneuverability is by far the best in it's class. It stops and turns on a dime. It climbs and soars like a champ, even thru wind. You can download the photos and video files (1080p) straight to your phone at full res thru the Dji GO app. The GO app is also very advanced and fully covers all controls with satisfying modification/customization options. An amazing and outstanding piece of technology. I had no problems or issues with my Phantom 3 Pro thus far. It's as tight as a drum and flies like a champ. An extra battery and hardshell travel case is a must.**UPDATE 5/4/16** I HAD MY FIRST DRONE CRASH.I was doing follow me mode in my jeep while driving and controlling the drone at the same time (stupid idea) and my altitude was only set at 35feet (stupider idea) and while driving I took my eyes off the screen and expected the drone to do its thing since I have tested the follow me mode and it works nicely. Anyway the drone ran into the top of an oak tree while filming and fell onto an old road, mostly ancient asphalt and it was a pothole area with mostly dirt and gravel, so it fell upside down onto the dirt/gravel spot in the old road and continued to spin propellers at full blast while upside down, flinging asphalt rocks and dirt 20 feet into the air and breaking 2 of the propellers.Luckily I happened to have a spare set of props for just such an occasion. I literally unscrewed the broken props, put the new ones on, turned the drone off and on again, recalibrated the compass and started the thing right back up and it was back in the sky not 5 minutes later. Gimbal was fine! Flying behavior was like new! The thing was unscathed after falling through a tree and crashing onto a old road. It was a miracle. Or just a badasz drone. I was lucky that my drone only suffered a few hard scratches to the plastic body and some dust marks after crashing like that. It still flies as if it were new. Thanks the drone gods for that one. I also had a polar pro nd filter on it which also suffered a ding on the outside of the aluminum mount ring but it still works fine also.
I don't think a Ready-to-Fly Quad Copter could get much better than this!!
July 23, 2015
The best Phantom so far. I've had the Phantom 1, Phantom 2, Phantom 2 Vision + and now the Phantom 3, and this by far beats them all when it comes to features, stability, photo and video quality, and flight time/characteristics.*** If you were lucky enough to buy one of the previous batches with FIRMWARE 1.1.8 DO NOT UPDATE firmware at all, and if you got one with firmware 1.1.9, DO NOT UPDATE firmware to 1.2.6 no matter what you do. 1.1.8 is the best to be on, 1.1.9 is ok since you can't go back, 1.2.6 is horrible and breaks functionalities and makes flying safely a problem. I will explain later Don't worry if you get the warning that you have to update firmware, it'll work fine even if you don't, it'll just complain. It won't force you to update firmware. Do not update until DJI gives you a way to roll back to the previous firmware version, supposedly they have said they're going to do that. ***Things that are improved over previous Phantoms models:- Camera- Gimbal- App- GPS lock time and number of satellites used to tell position- GPS hold- Position hold using Vision Positioning System (VPS), new on this Phantom model from the previous Phantoms, also used on Inspire 1- Range- Video preview quality (720p HD)- Flight time (about 22 minutes)- More powerful motors- Much more stable during yaw / spin during hover- Video and RC both use 2.4GHz, no need to deal with 5.8GHz for control like on the P2V+, which caused the RC control to drop out way before videoThings that got worse compared to previous Phantom models:- Maximum altitude AGL limit cannot be removed in app, although no one needs or should ever go above 400 ft, it still shouldn't be added by force- Constant firmware check / complains about not being up-to-date, even if it works just fine, never had this problem with P2V+ or P2- Proprietary DJI battery even more expensive than the P2/P2V+ batteries- Motors and battery get really hot during flight- Unable to choose any 2.4GHz other than between channel 13 through 20 for image preview transmission- No ability to record 1080p or 720p at 120 fpsThe Phantom 3 no longer uses Wi-Fi or a Wi-Fi range extender, it uses 2.4GHz band with digital modulation, and has a solid cable connection to your tab or phone so it won't keep losing connections. It uses the DJI Lightbridge (HD video down-link and RC control both in the same radio module). It has very crisp video, and control link does not usually go out at all, not within a reasonable distance. Firmware version 1.1.8 has the best video down-link. On firmware 1.1.9 and 1.2.6 DJI messed something up with the video encoding in the gimbal unit, so the app struggles to decode the video on your tab/phone, and the video constantly drops, blacks out or freezes. 1.2.6 is even worse. The tab/phone overheats while decoding video, and their solution was to shut down all other processes on your tablet or keep its processor cool, not really feasible! I would recommend for DJI just to downgrade the functionality back to whatever worked so well on firmware 1.1.8.It has been known that some people have got about 3 miles of range on a stock Phantom 3 Pro and controller. Supposedly the Phantom 3's on firmware 1.1.8 and 1.1.9 have amazing range. Supposedly firmware 1.2.6 reduces RC range, and RC drops out and complains about "unstable RC control channel". This hasn't been confirmed 100% yet, but a lot of owners complain about reduced range after updating to 1.2.6. Again, DO NOT UPDATE firmware if you haven't yet.The gimbal and camera on Phantom 3 are amazing. You cannot tell that it's a moving camera platform, there is no fish-eye, the resolution is amazing, and it is stunning in 4K resolution, the images are so crisp you feel like you can touch the trees or count the blades of grass! The only negative things about it are DJI's codec for coding the 4K images, and the bit rate is very poor for what it should be at that resolution, but it produces some nice videos either in 1080p 60fps or 4K 24fps. If you don't have very new Macbook Pro , leave the video recording at 1080p 60fps max, otherwise you will get very choppy video playback at 4K, unless you are going to post-process it, in which case you will get better resolution once you transcode it into 1080p later. The Vision Positioning System (VPS) uses a camera and sonar to tell position when it's close to the ground. At 10 ft of altitude or below, it holds position down to a few inches accuracy, above about 10 ft it uses GPS for position hold. VPS also allows you to hold position when flying indoor or when you have no GPS fix. Be careful when using only VPS, because it won't hold position if the Phantom is above about 10 ft. Firmware 1.2.6 breaks the VPS functionality and makes it non-functional. DO NOT UPDATE FIRMWARE. DJI's solution to this is to turn off the VPS in the app to avoid getting complaints from the app. Also, when flying up and then back down, firmware 1.2.6 creates a hysteresis effect in the barometric pressure altitude that gives you the altitude reading once the VPS (sonar) can no longer tell altitude above 10 ft. So when you start it up, your baro altitude reads approximately zero ft, if you climb then descend back to zero, the baro altitude reads about 20-40 ft. This does not seem to occur with firmware 1.1.8 or 1.1.9. This issue can be very dangerous for RTH if you lose RC control, and it has been known that some Phantom 3 Pro's running 1.2.6 just suddenly turn the motors off and drop 20-40 ft in the air. This could be a catastrophic disaster if you are below 40 ft or not high enough so that the fall can be stopped on time. It is a safety hazard for the Phantom and everyone around it. Again, DO NOT UPDATE firmware to 1.2.6. This cannot be stressed enough. The Phantom 3 is a great quadcopter. You can probably not get a better one with more features out of the box. If you're wondering whether to get one or not, definitely go for it. If you're new to multirotors, get a small Walkera Ladybird or Blade Nano to practice and learn, then get a Phantom 3 once you know how to control them safely. There's no question about how good and well designed the Phantom 3 is! DJI's customer service, however, is not as good. For those who have problems, either by the firmware update or by problems with their individual Phantom 3, their only suggestions for solutions is "calibrate the IMU (sensors), the gimbal and wait long enough to get good GPS lock", DJI will not acknowledge or confirm any problems, and keeps telling everyone the same thing. If you have an actual problem or anything that needs repair, their turn-around time is horrible, so if you get one, check everything, do not update your firmware, and if anything is wrong return to your vendor in the first few days and avoid warranty repairs, it'll take forever to get it back. Like usual, the multicopter is great, the customer service and manufacturer communication are horrible.
Much easier, more fun, and more capable than I expected - incredible pictures!!

If you are inexperienced with drones (as I was) and you are wondering "yeah, but can I figure this thing out and make it work and get some cool photos?" the answer is yes. Initial set up takes a little work with assembly and downloading the smartphone app, and getting set up (they have fantastic videos that help a ton), but once you get going, it is simply amazing what you can do. This thing is really pretty easy to fly the video feed back to you at the controls is really amazing and the photos and videos are mind-blowing. If you are a total klutz/spaz, you are going to want to practice for a while in an open space so that you have the hang of how the controls are relative to the direction of travel (backwards if you point it towards you for a selfie). But the practice is not necessary to fly it competently - more about flying it really well so that you can reliably land it right where you want or bring it down amongst trees, etc. Out of the box this thing is really incredibly powerful and the power is amazing accessible even to beginners. I am really pleasantly surprised how fun and easy this is (it's still a techy gadget, but it is far, far better than I expected.) Below is a shot taken with the drone.
The Phantom Professional drone is a very nice copter to have. Much better than the original version...
July 6, 2015
This is my second DJI drone I've owned and I must say it is much easier to fly than the original Phantom I had a couple years ago. It flies much more stable and the FPV feature is very nice to have in multiple ways. I was on the fence on whether I wanted to spring the extra $250 for the 4K version or just settle for the 1080P model. In the end I chose the Professional 4K version so I could appreciate the 4K videos on my Samsung 4K TV. I haven't had too many chances to fly my new toy but that will change in time. I also purchased the Seahorse rugged case to safely store and transport my new toy and it looks and functions great!

Not a bad deal.
September 4, 2016
This drone operates as advertised. The videos are good - as little jumpy.Pics are 'OK'I was able to get some good footage with this drone. Battery life is about 8 minutes, has plenty of power. The software on the machine to keep it level is not as good as some drones I have flown, but good enough for an advanced flier. This is not a beginners drone. The controls on the Phone are sketchy, and not useful, use the transmitter. The lag time is about 1.5 to 3 seconds from the platform to the phone. Not fast enough to fly HUD on the phone, but it is a neat effect. My Reccomendation: I liked it, it has some cool features and worked as advertised.
Like the others have said
September 16, 2015
Like the others have said, this is a fantastic beginner's copter. Don't expect it to do amaging tricks that boggle the mind. Expect you, as a beginner, to be able to fly it pretty much right out of the box. I even had a fully charged battery for the copter ready to go. I had to supply the four AA batteries for the controller myself. So I took it outside and promptly crashed it into a tree. Not even a scratch. I took a bunch of video using the onboard included camera. It is 720p. There are a few minor issues with the camera. It could be pointed up a bit more, as in you have to give it some altitude to see everything properly. I also noticed that when the camera points towards or near the sun it produces a whiteout effect as the lens doesn't seem to be able to close itself enough. But don't let the last paragraph disparage you. For a beginner it is an excellent copter and it is extremely fun and *simple* to fly. The video really is bearable and it takes good pictures too using the video camera. If you're a beginner you might be tempted (like myself) to purchase a more expensive quad. I'm very glad I did not, you get a lot for your money and you will have a craft that will take a beating. The box even contains four extra blades and gears just in case you manage to ruin them. You should also buy the extra batteries recommended by Amazon on their "customers also bought". You only get 10 minutes of flight time per battery, a bit less if you use the video. I got the pack of 5 for a total of 7 batteries. You'll thank yourself for doing that. Also, as the included charger is USB - I bring a laptop along when I take it to the park to both charge the batteries and download the video from the included SIM.Happy flying!
A Good Quadcopter to Learn On
September 2, 2015
This is the second quadcopter I have owned. The first one was inexpensive and hard to control, I broke it after a few weeks by flying it into trees and the house. Thus I have around 3 months of fun with quadcopters. It did provide me a valuable learning experience which was, "start this hobby with an inexpensive quadcopter to learn the flight and safety basics and to see how much you like it." One other hint if you are just starting, find a big empty soccer / sports field to practice on.The UDI U818A-1 copter is a nice step up from a small $30 quadcopter. It has 6 gyroscopes which help a lot in controlling the copter. It's four propellers are protected by relatively strong plastic circles surrounding them (propellers are NOT carbon fiber). I have had a few rough landings and the copter still looks and flies fine. This copter is very light, with the battery it weighs 4.7 ounces. You should fly it when there is almost no wind. So far I have flown it to about a maximum hight of around 120 feet and a circular horizontal distance of around 300 feet away from me. It can go farther, I am unsure what the maximum range is. The camera and video works fine. It's inexpensive and digital so don't expect GoPro quality, but is good for what you are paying. I will attach photos for you to see.It comes with two batteries, each lasts from 6-9 minutes depending on whether or not the video is turned on. The camera shoots AVI video, I bought a video converter program to convert them to Mac MOV format. There are inexpensive ($30 range) video converter programs if you need one. The quadcopter has LED lights which are pretty at dawn and dusk, but too dim to actually help you orientate the copter when it's flying. The front propellers are white, the rear ones black, but again they are not useful to help you orientate the copter once it's in the air. The "front" of the copter has two plastic extensions which I find the most helpful once the copter is in the air. You need to be able to tell where the "front" of the copter is orientated so when you move the joystick you know what direction the copter is going to move. The controller works well and was similar to the inexpensive controller I started with. Hopefully most quadcopters have similar controls so you don't have to learn something new as they contain two joysticks and several buttons to press. This copter has two controller modes, one is more sensitive than the other. I'm still on the "slow" mode which is helpful when you are just learning. There are four buttons that control the "trim" or the "drift" of the copter. One of the controller buttons does not work. I'm not sure if it's decorative only, but I don't think so. It appears to be jammed. I am reluctant to take apart the controller to see if I can unjam it as I don't need that button to control the drift of the copter. On a windless night it does go up pretty straight. NOTE: your launching location needs to be flat so the copter and orientate itself to horizontal before takeoff. I use the box the copter came in as the "launch pad" and level it as best I can before takeoff. I am confident enough to take it to a park next to some water, but not yet confident enough to actually fly OVER the water. Landing the copter exactly where you want it to land takes some practice to accomplish. It is NOT GPS controlled.Besides coming with an extra battery, it also came with extra propellers (I haven't had to use them yet), a 2 GB memory card (plenty big enough unless you buy more batteries), and a USB connector for the memory card to connect into your computer. The memory card shows up on your computer and has 2 folders: photos and videos. The photos are JPEG's, the video is AVI. As I said, the camera is tiny and digital, it's not near GOPro quality. Having said that, the video (which is what I almost exclusively use) I would rate as "good" for the price you are paying.I gave the quadcopter 4 stars for how well it's built, how easy it is to fly compared to those that cost less than $50, "good" quality video, and the amount of fun that I have had learning how to use it. I would definitely get something like this before I jumped into the $500+ copters with GPS, etc. I deducted one star because the directions are not all that clear. It appears that someone with limited English skills translated these and the explanations were somewhat lacking. There was part of one sentence that was missing that was probably important. The diagrams did NOT show what that the one trim button was supposed to do (if anything) - the one I mentioned that appears to be "stuck" on the controller." The "stuck" button also contributed to the one star deduction. The rating might have deserved a second missing star for the "stuck button" -- except the way my copter flies I don't need that trim button anyway.Bottom Line -- I am having fun learning how to fly quadcopters using the UDI U818A-1 copter. This copter has taken a few bumps and crashes and is still in great shape. It's a good copter to learn with if you someday plan on moving up t the $500+ copters, but it's also a nice copter if this is as much as you want to spend on one.
Just got my UDI QuadCopter today - So far I am quite pleased!
May 11, 2015
I just received, unpacked and flew/crashed my Udi Quadcopter for the better part of the afternoon. For those who think you can un-box this craft, pull it out and fly to your hearts content let me enlighten you just a bit. I have flown RC aircraft on and off for twenty years. The only A/C I didn't fly was the helicopters because of the expense and difficulty in operating them. When I stumbled upon this UDI drone for cheap at Amazon I figured what the hay and went for it. Since I have only had it for a number of hours and part of that time was in charging batteries my experience is limited, but I can give my initial, first impressions. First, when you take off, do not expect the drone to just hover there waiting for inputs. It is very stable, yes, however even after re-setting the gyros the drone still tends to drift. This can be compensated for easily enough with gentle nudges on the controls, but it takes practice. When I say gentle nudges I mean gentle. You can't just muscle this craft around right at the start unless you are well versed in flying quadcopters. It took me two batteries to get a nice controlable hover technique. The next few charges (it takes a couple hours so I am buying more batteries asap) were spent maneuvering around our living room. Now, some may say, there's your problem, why start in your house instead of a nice big field and you would be right except the wind was blowing about twenty knots and I am an impatient man. This is where my prior experience with RC aircraft was handy as I knew to keep my inputs light and have no problem with the controls when the drone is flying back towards me. I certainly would NOT recommend starting in your house if you've never flown before. So, my impressions. First, after getting a feel for the craft it is stable in hover and in flight indoors - I will update with outdoors when the wind dies down. It is tough, I crashed into moving ceiling fans, got caught under a couch and attacked by our dog and the drone just kept chugging. The only problem I had was initially I had intermittent power loss. I found the connector for the batter to the copter was loose. I snapped it on tight and no more problems. Also, some say you get 9-10 minutes of flight per charge. Nope. 5-6, maybe 7 if you don't record, but I wanted to record all my crashes and nonsense. I had the front light turned off. Tomorrow I will disable the other LED s. Don't think that will save much but I don't need them. Once I am confident I won't crash regularly I will remove the protective shroud as well to save on some weight. For now tho, it is indispensable. The camera takes Darn good video. I am truly impressed. I can't wait to get outside our living room doesn't make for picturesque viewing. So, all in all my first impression is that this is a tough and fun little gadget. For less than 90 bucks it's hard to beat. Oh, it comes with two batteries, extra rotors, extra rotor shaft gears a screwdriver a micro SD card and reader - which was a nice touch. Just stick the card in the reader, stick it in the USB port of your computer and viola! There's your videos. Be sure to power down the drone before removing the card too. And follow the instructions. If you don't like the manual there are dozens of videos for this copter on YouTube. Hope this helps in your decision making. One last thing tho. Let me stress that as cool as this might be it is really just a toy for us big Kids. If you want something for anything other than messing around you need to look at a lot more copter and a lot more money. With that in mind, have fun!
A perfect "First Quad"
May 8, 2015
A terrific little copter for the price. For people wanting to get into flying quads, but wanting something inexpensive and durable to start with, this fits the bill. The camera resolution is good, but since it records on the vehicle, you don't know what you are filming until it gets back to the ground and you plug in the MicroSD card to your computer. Also, don't try to remove the SD card while the camera is in recording mode, or the video clip will be lost -- wait for the green light. In my test flight, it seemed that doing a flip cut off the recording. It would start up again in a few seconds, but you will have a series of short videos instead of one long one. It can also take still photos. It is a toy, though, so don't expect to be able to do too much precision photography of the birds nest in the top of the tree. The copters steer by banking, so the videos will have a lot of tipping back and forth. But its a great little device to learn the basics of flight. It can take a lot of punishment, and the integrated prop guards are perfect for beginners. The instructions say to fly in a big field, and my advice is: *fly in a big field*! It is very susceptible to being blown around by the wind, and if you get too much altitude, you won't be able to tell which end of the copter is the front, and then navigation becomes really tricky. If you aren't in a big grassy area, the chance of it dropping into someone's back yard and disappearing is very real. The designers tried to help you tell which end was the front by having two bumpers extend from the prop guards, a LED light, and by having the front two props a different color than the back two. However, when it starts getting up over 75 feet or so, it becomes really hard to figure out the copters orientation, and you can easily have it running away from you when you are trying to bring it back. I almost lost mine on the second day, when the wind picked up and it took off down the street. Two pieces of advice prior to your first flight: put your contact information on it right away, in case it gets blown off course and ends up in someone's yard. Since the manual is rather hard to understand, hit YouTube a watch some of the unboxing videos to get a better idea of how to fly it.It might also be a good idea to spray paint the underside of the copter white in the front, to help with navigation. The package contains:copter with integrated HD cameraa controllertwo batteries for the coptera USB charger that can charge both batteries at the same time,4 extra props4 extra tiny gearsa screwdrivera 2 GB MicroSD card for the camerainstruction manualDoes not include AA batteries needed for the controller
Nice toy
May 7, 2015
It worked exactly as stated. Being a nube it was nice that it was easy to fly right off the bat. It looks pretty cool at night. Took pics and vids and was pleased. Now don't think you're going to get HD because your not, but I got what I expected for the money. This is a toy, if you want the real deal drop a few Gs on the real thing!Update: The product manual is definitely written in Chienglish. But it is definitely a must read, its not all that bad but pretty bad.The battery life is a bit disappointingThe lights at night are awesomeThe camera is only VGA, repeat, the camera is VGA

Easy to use, great camera resolution, but tons of work preparing for every flight, so no spontaneity here.

I have had this camera/drone for over a year, and I find its imaging breathtaking, like entering a different dimension of travel. The issue is that firmware updates seem to come out every time I turn the thing on telling me that I need to install it with a bright red "warning triangle"' as if it will self-destruct without this update. And instead of seamless upgrades where you click "download here" and "install now" on the iPad, You have do unplug your micro SD card, download a file, delete all old files on the card, reinstall a new file, plug it in and turn it on while the camera beeps for thirty minutes or more...there goes the battery again. Did I mention that the batteries seem to drain even when they are not being used. To charge up the controller and all three batteries (I use three) takes an hour or so. The logistics of using this drone require planning and time and an additional hour or more if you need to upgrade firmware...so no such thing as being spontaneous with this drone.everything needs to be charged up before use because nothing holds its charge even when not used. Within a week of charging up each battery, the controller unit, and of course, the iPad, everything is at low charge even when powered off. I could live with that, but then comes
customer service sucks
December 13, 2016
Love the machine! - customer support - not so much. I purchased the Phantom 3 Pro bundle kit -- the extra battery I received would not take a charge. after contacting DJI support I was told I would need to return the battery for repair. RETURN FOR REPAIR? I just bought a new battery and it is defective, it needs to be replaced! -- Nope - not their policy. Wait for a shipping label, ship it, wait 5-7 days for return process and wait for it to be shipped back. I bought the bundle so I could fly more than 23 minutes a day. Should have listened to the reviews.
Nice Product But Don't Try To Kill The Motors With Two Sticks
June 2, 2016
Really like the copter. As a professional videographer and cinematographer, the images are strikingly beautiful. I'm also a trained pilot. I would highly recommend people taking some courses and flying the simulator before they go. Also, the manual to use both sticks to kill the motors. I flipped it twice doing that. The best way to kill the motors is to do a slow decent then hold the stick down for 3 seconds that will kill it. But don't do it in the air lol. If I could do it over again, I would by the larger rubberized case as well. And I do recommend getting the prop guards that will stabilize it a lot. Other than that, it's a joy to fly. I've already filmed quick a few jobs with it and enjoy the aircraft a lot.
fun
May 4, 2016
so much fun to play with and fly around. don't be like me though, read the instructions and watch videos before you try and fly it. my first flight before I knew anything wasn't so graceful. after a couple of YouTube videos I am good now. it comes with an extra set of propellers which is great. but you may need to buy more. do yourself a favor and avoid the prop guards. they are too heavy and you can see them in your view all the time. be sure to set your return to home point if signal is lost right away. I've lost remote signal a few times and thankfully its come right back. the auto land isn't that graceful, I wouldn't use it. it does have a lot of no-fly zones loaded. I live in Colorado and wasn't able to fly any where near the football stadium. the video quality is great, pictures not so much. always shoots in f/2.8 with ISO adjusting up to account for shutter speed. if you zoom in its not that crisp. I was reluctant on getting one but now that I have one im glad I got it.cons.battery life is less than good, but extras. remote battery however is a different story. I am on 10 battery charges now for copter but still on single charge for remoteit is very noisy. sounds like a bunch of bees swarming, until you get up around 200'firmware updates aren't smooth. you need to re-link remote and start everything over.
Great product, but not perfect.

There is a lot to love about these quads. The tech that's packed into them, makes it a great time to be an adult kid.My only gripes are that setting waypoints is awful. You have to manually fly to each point, which takes precious flight time off your battery. Aftermarket software is available to allow you to draw your waypoints on a map, but it doesn't come cheap @ $25, also only available for iOS, last time I checked.Second gripe is due to a recent update. The quad simply refuses to take off, if the battery is under 59°. I understand not wanting the battery to freeze before flight, but it needs to literally be 60° or higher?? Minor nuisance I suppose, as long as you know this and plan ahead.
Great video platform, poor instructions.
December 4, 2015
Excellent piece of equipment, stable as a big rock even in gusty wind conditions. 1080p at 60fps is top quality video. The 4k produces stunning still pictures but the video has limitations. You have to shoot in a manner that will minimize "jerkiness" due to 30fps. Have ordered 64gb microSD Ultra in hopes faster bit transfer will minimize jerkiness. I will follow up with results.Do not use as a trainer. Buy a cheap drone if you have no previous RC pilot experience. The Phantom will break with most any crash or extreme hard landing. It is a photography tool not a toy.The instructions and DJI tutorial videos are poor. There are very few step-by-step instructions on how to use any advertised feature. The videos spend a lot of time just getting it out of the box rather than walking you thru set up screens.Read the Quick Start and full manual 3-4 times first! Then sit down for a lot of trial and error training/practice.

Good for a kid.. Not adults.

I can not speak of the newer fpv drone as the one i bought did not have it but mine does have the hd camera. I can say that the drone flies well and is pretty fun. However the fun really stops when you see your neighbor buy a drone for half the price and it out performs it. He has the Syma x53c and not only is it more stable but it hovers in one spot much better. The UDI does not hover in the same spot no matter how much you adjust trim. The slightest breeze alters its course. To top it off the cheaper drone came with better batteries that were 1 minute short of doubling my flight time of 7 minutes. That is unacceptable. I suggest you look elsewhere for a new toy.
Nice beginner Quad
May 2, 2016
This is a nice my first quadcoptor and it was fun while it lasted.Out of the box youre going to need to charge the batteries overnight. The fly time per charge is advertised as 10+ min, though my batteries only gave me a rough 3-5min. A quick email to the company and they were willing to send me out a free replacement pair. Sadly though I ended up returning the coptor before the new batteries arrived. One of the motors began to die out causing it to lean very hard in one direction.I was able to snag this item for $99, and for that price it was kind of what you pay for. The camera was a pretty good quality, but the coptor itself doesnt have an auto stabilization, so you shots may be bumpy. The camera though does seem to drain the battery out very quickly. A downside with the recording though is that it may as well not have any sound since the sound of the motors drowns anything else out.The coptor can get pretty high before you start to lose signal (or the winds begin to take it away). You can let it free fall on its own and turn the motors back on and it will right itself back out pretty quickly. There is also a button for the coptor to do a side flip. Though it is another thing that tends to drain the battery quickly (and refuses to flip after the battery gets low).Overall it was a nice little coptor. Mine just seemed to have issues out of the box that got progressively worse with use. If it didnt have these issue I would of probably kept it as a nice recreational toy.
My head hurts
April 19, 2016
Easy to fly when you can get it trimmed out. Good luck with that, at least with the one I got. Three stars because it can take a beating. FPV/Camera ugh. I guess the only way to turn on camera for pictures or videos is from the app. Unless there's a switch that I'm not seeing. As far as the app goes,no fun. At least put a switch on camera. Hard to see screen during daylight. Not good for indoors.
This Quadcopter flew well and was easy to control
April 1, 2016
This Quadcopter flew well and was easy to control. I was looking for something that can produce watchable video. I didn't expect crystal clear video, but I did expect it to produce something I could watch. I've bought cheaper quadcopters that had less jello effect and had presentable images. I ended up returning it and buying the cheaper model just to play with because I did like the way if flew, but couldn't get past the image quality of the camera.
Misleading Information
March 14, 2016
Here is why I am giving 3 stars. USAToyz has mislead many people with the incorrect Q and A of this product. Also due to misleading information I purchased wrong accessories for this model. The batteries suggested for this wifi fpv model are incorrect. There is a 4 pin 2 cell batterey that if you look close at the picture you will see it. You cannot find this batterey connector anywhere online. I purchased 5 of the suggested batteries and none fit correctly. I was able to solder a fix though and I am ultimately happy with the result but no thanks to USAtoyz. According to the Q and A you cannot control with your phone and you cannot see live video. These are both false statements. This is for the older model. You can view live video and control the quad with your phone. I love this quad and want to give 5 stars but I simply cannot because it took a lot of jimmy rigging to get this thing to optimal usage potential. Mostly because of incorrect information.
6 month review
November 3, 2015
For the first week or so, it was a lot of fun, flying around taking videos and such.Mechanically, it seems well built, several ehem....*rough* landings and everything works the way it should: mechanically.Video quality is about what you expect for the price, enough to be fun but its not gonna win any awards.Mid flight one day it decided to stop recording video, and corrupts any card I put it in (luckily I had some 2gbs sitting around that I don't use)If this would have happened after a less-than-stellar landing, I would have chalked it up to being my fault, but seeing as how it happened mid flight, I don't want to.

2 defective transmitters in a row
December 13, 2015
The first time I hit hte Return to Home button, it broke off of the inside of the transmitter. Found that it's a common issue, and was luckily able to return it to Amazon and get another quickly. I hit the Return Home button one time on the new one while flying, and that one broke at as. 2 transmitters, 2 broken buttons. This one is past the return time on Amazon, so it's going to take a couple of weeks to get it fixed.
Professional Drone with Great Image Capability.
November 24, 2015
Love it. Very stable. Takes great photos and incredible video. Easy to fly. Could be used by a beginner or advanced hobbyist. Highly recommend following all safety protocols and installing needed firmware updates. My only complaint is that a friend and I ordered two at the same time from Amazon. He ordered his, I ordered mine. Paid the exact same price. He got the newer version and I received the older version. Not happy at all about that. :-/ I think it's great that they recognized weaknesses and they were corrected. I just think they should sell the obsolete model for less and offer the option.
Product... wonderful! DJI's support... scary-bad!
October 1, 2015
I feel as though I want to give two reviews... one for the product (absolutely amazing; fantastic by every measure) and another for the customer support (terribly, terribly disappointing). The quality of the product pretty much speaks for itself, and there's proof of it all over the web. Unfortunately, I feel compelled to speak out about the complete indifference expressed by the company regarding a serious malfunction and safety issues. While flying this past weekend, a catastrophic battery malfunction resulted in my drone splashing down into a lake and sinking to the bottom. While I succeeded in contacting DJI's support team and in filling out the requested paperwork, I've learned that DJI management won't even get around to reviewing everything I sent in for WELL OVER A MONTH! It's anybody's guess as to how long a resolution will actually take. In reading through other online forums, I've seen reports of an 8-10 week backlog. If this had gone down over private property, or anywhere near people, it could have caused significant damage. All things considered, I'm lucky it was over a lake. And yet, DJI won't even LOOK at the issue, leaving a potentially dangerous product flaw out in the field.I'll post updates about this issue if/when DJI takes the next step. Maybe my faith in the company will be restored, and brought back up to the level deserving of their product. I'll let you know.
First off love the phantom three drone
August 19, 2015
First off love the phantom three drone. have owned others in the past. My review and reason for three stars and not five is the customer service. Got the new drone set everything up and on auto takeoff it went up five feet turned sideways and flew into a tree. OK! something wasn't working with this. I call to ask about replacement. They send me an email to return, Im thinking its defective they will send a new one out. No! I send it out on in Mid July, it is delivered three days later. Its then not "checked in" to their system for another two weeks. So it sat in a box. Now this is where it gets fun. They say its up to eight weeks after they check it in for service. So by keeping it on a shelf and not checking it in they by themselves as much time as they see fit. I call now a month later to se what is going on, I figured a month is a fair amount of time. No one will tell you where it is in line, if its been looked at, if its covered under warranty or give you any information at all. They keep telling you some one will be in contact with you in about six weeks after "check in". So they have the drone, they will get to it when they get to it and just sit by the phone and wait. I would think they could say we will get to you in nine days or whatever the case may be. I asked if its a warranty item and the answer is the technician will decide and get back to you. Don't know why they have customer support other than to tell people we will get to it when we get to it. For a company that makes such a wonderful line of products they would put a small effort into the customer support side.
djl phantom 3 drone
July 17, 2015
Djl phantom 3 worked great for a week and a half, then it malfunctioned, after landing it, it took off by itself went up about six feet and shut off, came crashing down, had to send back for repairs, in which they said would take about six weeks before it would be returned, so after spending nearly fifteen hundred dollars having only week and half, then waiting another month and a half for return, not so happy!!

Fun, Short Lifespan, Poor Customer Service
September 19, 2016
Summary: two stars, as the quad is fun to fly, but its lifespan is short and USA Toys does not have good customer service.I bought this quadcopter in June with the intention of it being my first "entry level" quad. Never owned one before, but I wanted good video capability so I could do some flybys of activities at a summer camp. I chose this model because it includes the FPV (First Person View) feature, which streams the quad's view straight to your smartphone.Overall, I was impressed with the capability. I didn't expect "studio quality" video with a ~$140 quad, and you definitely don't get that quality. However, the video capability is solid. Videos are saved to a micro SD flash memory card. The FPV system is not as useful, because it's hard to fly while looking through the "view" of the copter (you really need more awareness of your surroundings, which is only accomplished by actually looking at the copter, not at what it sees). However, it is nice to see "real time" what the quad is recording. Also, the FPV capability and the UDI app enables you to download saved videos directly from the quad without remove the SD card and plugging it into your computer. A nice capability. Battery life is modest, considering the battery size (6-7 minutes). Definitely need extra batteries to be able to enjoy the quad. The bad part: within two weeks, one of the rotor motors burned out. I ordered a certified replacement rotor from Amazon and installed it, but it did not fixed the issue. When I installed the new rotor, it would spin at a constant rate. After additional troubleshooting, I concluded that the PCB (the brain of the quad) had suffered a failure. I contacted the seller, USA Toyz, and explained the issue. They offered to ship me a new rotor. I told them this wasn't the issue, and I needed a new PCB instead. They told me that they did not have this part to ship, and "maybe they would have it later." They did not offer to ship me a replacement quad. This is unacceptable, as my $140 quad is now worthless.Bottomline: it's a fun quad to fly, but don't expect it to last long. Also, my experience with USA Toyz was highly negative, as they did not solve the problem with their product.
poor performance even for a budget quad
December 20, 2015
I will start by saying this is the first quad copter I have purchased. I have flown numerous rc helicopters and other quads before so I am familiar with flying unmanned rotor aircraft. I have been interested in buying a quad copter for some time now so I pulled the trigger on this guy due to the positive reviews. I have to say I was disappointed. The particular model I received could not be trimmed anywhere close to a point where it would hover. I realize this is a pretty inexpensive quad copter but the unit was almost unusable. The other negative was that this thing can not be flown in even the slightest wind. I never bothered taking any video so I can't comment on that. I shipped the unit back to amazon and ordered a Syma x5c-1. Reviews on that model look promising.
Could be great but.....
July 22, 2015
Received for my sons birthday, he is beyond excited. Unpacked and plugged in batteries to charge. First off the USB charger seems to be manufactured upside down, when it is plugged in you see the back of the charger, would make much more sense if you could see the top and the light. When I plugged both batteries in there was no light, remove one and light comes on but blinks and then eventually went to solid red but never turned off. Directions (Chinese to English translation) says red light will turn off when fully charged. Reading other reviews there seems to be some confusion with this? With that being said we tried one of the batteries and it really does fly well, have not tried to see if it actually will record yet. I have e-mailed the seller I believe it was toyz USA but have not received a response. I also post question on Amazon but has not yet appeared. I hate to send it back but looks like I may have to. I will update when I get a response.
Fire hazard
June 28, 2015
This is a good product, but I am rating it low because one of the two batteries melted itself on the charger. Once I got over the fact that it may or may not have burned my house down, I am further aggravated by the lack of contact info when I decided to have the battery replaced

Great starter drone and worked perfectly out of the box. Batteries last about 5-6 minutes each so need to purchase extra back ups to enjoy the toy. Problem was we've had 2 now and both stopped working within 2 days. They should last at least a Month!! Once the wire came lose on 1 engine and it can't operate. The Next replacement came and lasted 2 days before one engine stopped for unknown reasons. He didn't wreck it or break it, just stopped working...

And this is on the first battery, so forget about using the second one before letting the drone motors to cool off for at least 20 mins.Camera is only taking pics, no video recording.

Do your homework, there are better UAVs
September 22, 2016
The first failed in mid air, the second caught fire spontaneously on take-off. After the autopsy, it was determined the integrated main board is destined to fail catastrophically. Modular designs are much better, less expensive, and replacing a motor controller vs a $200 main board that required soldering and magnification. We took our Phantom 3 Pro (3) and stripped the motors, cameras and GPS, then trashed the rest and bought Typhoons from Yuneec which are superior to the P3P. Especially considering how difficult it is to communicate with a company based in China and California. They have no concept of reasonable customer service and must have enough business to be lame, at least for now, but that wont last and others will fill the vacuum. Parrot, 3DR, and others are making better products and have better support. I regret the $3k we invested in this POS product line.
quadcopter is awesome
July 19, 2016
the quadcopter is awesome ... the battery time not so much. they say it will last 28 minutes. Mine lasted 13 minutes. I tried everything to make it last longer turning off the lights, taking off slow, fully charging the battery letting it sit 30 minutes then flying it. Fully discharging the battery then charging it up. flying on calm days, nothing changed. I really liked the idea of owning this. Had fun flying it but, 13 minutes of fun is not enough for me.
Not Lucky!!!!
July 14, 2016
Less than one month after start using it one motor stop working. As I live in Africa it's expensive to send the aircraft back. So I order a new motor in France and try to install it by my self. I found that it was a wrong one (2312). So I order the right one (2312a) which is not delivred yet. I hope it will work properly.
Firmware Update fried my Robot

App would not get video signal without firmware update of cameras firmware. Firmware update cause the device to make loud buzzing sounds and stopped working. No help from DJI. $1200 useless drone. Returned. Thank God this happened during the return policy!!!
Maybe it will work like it is supposed to when it gets back
July 27, 2015
I got it and updated the firmware as was told to do and the video is shaky from the gimball not working correctly and it wouldn't fly 250ft away with losing video connection. Sent it in to see what's wrong with it and I am still waiting for it to come back. Maybe it will work like it is supposed to when it gets back.

So disapointed. Had one that i let my friend fly and he lost it in a tree. He bought me a new one, which was super cool of him to do. The new one burnt out a motor after the first flight. I tried 4 replacement motors and all of them burnt up. The first one i fot didnt even come with a battery pack that they said they would send me but never did. Whixh is prob for the best, it prob sucks too. I was so excited for this and it was such a waste of time and money. Get a syma or one of those other brands. Returning it asap. But gonna have to bite the bullet on the batteries and charger i bought.

April 15, 2016
I had it for 9 days and flew 4 times. It worked great initially and I really liked it until the 4th flight when it suddenly spiraled down and crashed. When i walked up to it I could smell a burnt electrical board smell. I disassembled the body and pictured here is what I have. The odd thing here is that those thick wires lead to the LED's not to the motors. It got so hot it actually melted main frame as well and most of the wires were melted together from all 4 motors. Definitely disappointing.

If customer service is important to you AT ALL then STAY FAR AWAY FROM DJI PRODUCTS!
October 14, 2016
First off, this review is about DJI (the company) more than it is about the drone itself. This review has nothing to do with the Amazon Marketplace Seller who I bought this drone from. Second, I'll try to keep this as brief as possible, but considering the circumstances it will be difficult. For this reason, I will use bullet points instead of paragraphs:1) I actually lost the drone that I bought through Amazon.com and for which this review is tied to. It was my fault. One of the motors got wet in the snow and I continued flying it afterwards even though the motor was "sticky" and it didn't spin freely anymore. The motor finally failed and I couldn't find the drone after it crashed.2) I purchased a replacement directly from DJI for $750 (quadcopter and battery only. no remote controller, etc) and received it within a reasonable amount of time.3) Right from day one this replacement drone had a bad compass. The compass simply wouldn't calibrate no matter what I did. Obviously, this wasn't my first drone and I had experience with calibrating compasses. I literally went to 10 different locations in order to be sure that it was the compass and not the environment causing the compass issues. I even tried calibrating it out in the middle of a pasture where there was NOTHING BUT GRASS. No metal as far as the eye could see. It wouldn't calibrate. There was definitely something defective about it.3) Without the compass it would it would fall-back into ATTI mode and was almost completely uncontrollable and unflyable. It would drift wildly all over the sky. The fact that I got it landed without destroying it was a miracle. It had a bad compass AND it would not connect to GPS because of that (which is dumb in itself so there's some bad marks for the drone itself).4) So, after exhausting all options and possibilities I finally contacted DJI Customer Support. I am loathe to contact customer support in any situation and I always go to extensive lengths to solve problems on my own before I do, even when they're not my fault.5) Without any regard for my safety or the potential damage to the drone, they required that I provide a screenshot of the compass error even though I had explained the issues to them in detail.6) So, I flew the drone one more time, against my better judgement, in order to get this screenshot (see included photos) for them, but I thought it would just be a matter of up and down and done, no problems, provided I could land it without destroying it. Well, it turns out that landing it wasn't an issue because the drone flew away on it's own. It flew out of range, lost signal and never "returned to home" by itself and not when I repeatedly pressed the "return to home" button on the remote controller (which gave me a "return to home failure" error). I had been flying it around for about 10 minutes because that's how long it took for the compass error to appear on the screen. But, just moments after I got the screenshot the drone was gone and never came back. I was NOT in control of it whatsoever.7) I waited half and hour just in case it was just taking its sweet time finding its way home. No luck. I suspected that it flew away in the wrong direction due to the compass error and lack of GPS connectivity and kept flying until the battery died (and I was mostly right).8) VERY IMPORTANT: Don't forget that I was ONLY flying it because DJI customer service REQUIRED me to AND on that flight it flew off by itself. The technical term is "a fly away" and apparently it's not uncommon.9) So, I broke the news to DJI Customer Support fully expecting that they would just send me a replacement drone since it was so completely obviously not my fault without any doubt at all.10) UNFORTUNATELY, this was not the case. It was the opposite. They required me to fill out a detailed incident report and they required that I synced my flight records with their servers and gave me the whole rape-kit-right-after-the-rape customer-support-experience and they took absolutely no responsibility for the situation even though it happened due to their requirement that I get a screenshot. The fact that they couldn't just take it in for repair on my word alone without a screenshot to "prove it" is unbelievable enough, but now this. What an awful experience!!11) Now, I thought I had "flight records" turned off from day one. I don't use them for anything so I turn them off just like all other features that I don't use. I'm OCD when it comes to settings! :) So I was very surprised that 100% of my flight records from day one were available for syncing with DJI's servers. Putting my shock aside I went ahead and synced the flight records knowing for certain that I was simply giving an honest account of the "incident" and that the flight records would no-doubt back me up (so I actually felt a little relieved that they existed). The flight records would make the situation easy to prove and I would obviously get a replacement drone since it wasn't my fault and it happened within the warranty period.12) Yeah, NOPE.. Not even close! They got back to me in record-time (about 24 hours) with a decision on my "incident report" and flight records. Unbelievably, their determination was that it was "operator error" and they said specifically that I had "crashed it into a mountain at full-forward" and that I was in control of it when it hit the mountain at full speed!!!13) Also unbelievably, they told me exactly which mountain my drone crashed into and where to find it!!14) So, after 24 hours of heavy rain I climbed that mountain and to my utter amazement, the drone was sitting there upside down *exactly* where they said it would be!!!! I couldn't believe my eyes, but there it was!! Unfortunately, it had been sitting out in the rain overnight while it was upside down.15) This is where the story ends very badly. I emailed DJI Customer Support and informed them that I found the drone and that it was in near-pristine condition so I couldn't have possibly crashed it into a mountain at full throttle. I told them that I was going to let it dry out for a week and then I would see if it was still operational. Again, to my amazement, it was!!! It flew just about as good as it did before the "fly away" incident, which means it drifted all over the sky, had a bad compass and was nearly uncontrollable. Very unfortunately, the camera gimble was bent and the picture on the screen was at a permanent 45 degree angle.13) Clearly, I had received a defective product that had become damaged by a "fly away" on a flight that DJI required me to take. However, DJI didn't see it the same way. They continued to insist it was operator error no matter how much evidence i provided to them, claiming that their incident evaluation process was completely "objective" so there was nothing that they could do for me.14) In closing, you can see that I did everything I possibly could do to comply with DJI's requirements and even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary they still would not honor their warranty and send me a replacement for my defective product!!! Their customer service is not only AS BAD AS EVERYONE SAYS IT IS, they are a flat-out DISHONEST COMPANY.If you're skeptical of my story, just have a look at the attached photos of the drone after I recovered it from the mountain and decide for yourself. Does it look like it crashed into a mountain (or anything) "at full-forward"? AT THE VERY LEAST, I would expect the propellers to be broken but they're not, they're perfectSIDE NOTE: I also bought a Galaxy Note 7 at around the same time as I bought the drone. I know, right? I'm having very good luck right now am I? In any case, Samsung's handling of that situation is an example of how customer support should be!!! Even though I got TWO bad Note 7 phones, I am still a loyal customer of Samsung because of the way they handled the situation (and because the Note 7 is the greatest phone ever made BY FAR, despite the faulty battery!)The short version of the above review is this: When you sell a defective product to someone, you replace it with as little hassles for the customer as possible. That's how I run my business, that's how Samsung does it, that's how most places do it. Not DJI.

The reason I'm giving it one star is because when I received my drone, it literally took me the whole day to figure out what was wrong with it.I downloaded the app, updated the firmware on the battery, drone & remote. Yet when I took it out to fly, the top on the screen continued to read "update RC firmware." No matter how many times I updated it. Not to mention it wouldn't allow me to calibrate the compass nor the IMU.The next day after spending my morning on both, the DJI website with UNHELPFUL Tech Support & on the phone with customer service, I was convinced that there had to be a internal problem with the drone. Therefore, I returned it & went into Best Buy after realizing they had one as well. Which buy the way works like a charm.
Buyer be ware.

I recently purchased a Phantom 3 drone. I was able to make one flight with it before it stopped working. After considerable trouble trying to find the cause of the problem, it turned out that the new 3 series and Inspire drones have a built in, "kill switch" timer that will ground your drone until you comply with mandatory firmware updates. Turns out that DJI is voluntarily cooperating with the FAA and specifically designed the newer drones to stop working unless or until the user complies in allowing the FAA to insert whatever controls it wishes into the flight controller of these drones. Essentially, they have removed the ownership of these drones from the consumer and handed it over to the U.S. Government. DJI discontinued their Phantom 2 series drones precisely because they could not force mandatory compliance with firmware updates. These new drone's hard wire connect to your cellphone or tablet, and working through the DJI Go app, they check DJI's database for new firmware updates. When sufficient time has passed between your last update and a new firmware release...the drone grounds itself and will not operate again until you do as your told and update to whatever it is THEY CHOOSE to stuff into your drone's control system. You, the consumer, have no say in what is then inserted into your drone. Those that have the power to control a thing....own that thing. If you purchase one of these drones from DJI, do so knowing that you're shelling out a lot of money for a device that you will never own. The FAA will decide what it can and can't do by MANDATING that you comply with whatever it is they wish to insert into the drone's flight control system. You will have no say in this. If you do not comply, the kill switch kicks in and your drone won't fly. Nowhere is there any pre-purchase information put out by DJI that informs you about this little secret they are keeping from you. They don't want you to know about it as it would hurt their market share if that were broadly known. DJI is currently the only drone manufacturer that is voluntarily working with the FAA to allow that agency total control over it's products. Other drone manufacturers' have thus far declined to give the FAA that kind of power over their units. If you wish to purchase a drone that YOU own...buy a drone from a different manufacturer. If you wish to have a drone that is owned and controlled by the FAA and DJI...they buy this drone. At least you will know why your drone stops working when you've skipped the latest mandatory feeding of rules, performance handicaps, restrictions et al into your drone by the dictates of the FAA. With this control...the FAA can, on a whim, ground every DJI drone in the world at any time and for any reason. Do you wish to give the power to control or ground your drone over to the Feds? If so, this is the drone to buy.
DJI, worst customer service Ive ever experienced!!!
August 25, 2015
I loved my DJI Phantom 3 for about three weeks when it needed its first Firmware Update. The Update was unsuccessful making the Phantom 3 no better than a very expensive paper weight. All attempts Ive made to successfully update the firmware have failed after following all instructions included, and by trying to follow the instructions that others have posted on the internet. My real problem with the Phantom 3 is the customer service, when I try to call the technical support phone number, there is NO customer service. After at least 15 calls I still havent spoken to anyone. The recording on the phone number tells me they are experiencing a high call volume and then it hangs up on you without having the option to wait your turn or leave a message. The DJI company is a Joke!!!
Great Sales Pitch, Back end support is useless

I hate to say it, but the lack of customer support outside someone just answering the phone or the chat is appalling. This is the second quad copter I have gotten that has had some sort of an issue. My first one lost all live video feed within 20 days of purchase so I exchanged it after a lengthy chat with DJI, but no help or remedy. The second quad arrived, however it will not let me update the firmware on the remote controller. It doesnt read the file or whatever its supposed to do. Remind you, first quad copter the firmware worked flawlessly. Not sure what to do, I really want the product but their is no support outside mailing it in and hoping they return it.
