Packaged was very good and the soap is great quality.. so far after 6 months i have had no issues with this product ... i use it everyday and realized my skin is very smooth and i do not have and rashes i would normally get from other soap .. I would recommend this product for anyone that would like a natural product and cares about the taking care of their skin ..

I ordered mine from the vendor "XTREMEK". I received the soap in one solid brick, so I was pleased with that. I wish I would've snapped a picture of it before cutting it up. I used the soap on my face and body and it left both feeling squeaky clean. It lathers up so well and has no scent so that's a plus for me. A little goes a long way. After using this soap I moisturize with my African Shea butter and I'm good to go. So far I'm loving this soap. I gave some to my parents and my brother and they said they like it as well. This soap is going to last a while.

This is the greatest soap I've ever found. I've bought it three times and I section it into manageable pieces for personal use. Nothing clears my complexion like this does. It must be used with a washcloth or scrub brush as the texture of the soap, by its nature, has the potential of presenting some of its natural coarse ingredients in places, but if used properly, this soap will cut through oil and dirt like nothing else. I heard about African Black Soap from a couple of African Americans who convinced me to try it. I was reluctant at first to try cleaning my pale white skin with soap the color of mud, but I have been pleased as can be with it. In my travels to Africa, I was surprised everyone there didn't bathe with it, but was wasting money buying Western chemical soaps that always make my skin break out.

First, why I like it:I don't have any special needs such as skin conditions. I love this soap because of its purity. No added scents or harshness. It leaves me feeling really clean and my skin does not feel dry. In my desire for full disclosure, I did experience about four or five days within the first or second week of use where the skin on my hands got dry, but that ended and never happened again. My wife had a similar experience, but did not wait it out and has not used black soap since. A soap maker I met at a crafts fair told me this was probably just a process of the soap cleaning out toxins and residues from my pores. I'd used Dial soap almost exclusively for years. She was a part time artisan soap maker and a full time professor of Chemistry at Virginia Tech. She also thought highly of Black Soap. I did some research and discovered that others had similar experiences and found like I did it was a one-time occurrence.I've been using Black Soap for over 4 years since December of 2010, when I purchased it for the first time from an artisan soap maker in Charleston, SC. As I said, he made soap, but he was raving about this soap which he had imported from Ghana. He had this huge 50Lb cube of soap on a table. It looked like a chunk of brown marble or a block of some exotic kind of wood. To demonstrate that it was soap he first rubbed his hand on it then he put a small amount of water on his palm and rubbed his hands together. I was intrigued, by the lather that formed. He explained to me that this was one of the gentlest and purest soaps he had ever encountered and that he personally used it. He said he even used it to wash his hair. He explained it should be used sparingly because that's all that was needed to make a great lather, as he had just demonstrated to me. So, I purchased a pound. It lasted me until July of 2012. I bought another pound. That lasted until February of 2013 when I purchased a 5 pound block. That lasted me until this month, April 2015, (2 years) when I purchased another 5 pound block. I made each purchase from a different vendor, but I intend to stick with Plant Guru through Amazon, they honor Prime members and I like their price and the quality of their product.My secret for making it last is that I do my best to let it dry in between uses. If it's allowed to sit in a wet dish it will melt away. I find setting it on a bumpy soap pad it allows it to dry out between uses. If you live in a very humid climate then even this may not be enough and it may remain very soft and melt somewhat between uses.The other thing is that I slice it into bars and wrap them with shrink wrap or vacuum seal the bars with a food saver until I need to begin using them. From this last 5 pound block I just purchased, I was able to get 18 bars. I cut them into a size approximately 3-1/2" x 2-1/2" x 1". I chose this size because it fits nicely into my travel soap container which I use when we RV and camp. See my pictures below.Some possible Negatives:Because of how it's made one will probably will occasionally notice very small bits of charred bark and fibers within the soap. They are miniscule and have never really bothered me. I never found any of my soap to be gritty, but I do find tiny bits of charred wood in it. This was explained to me, by a couple of soap makers, to be residue left over from the soap making process and because we’re buying it in its raw form it has not filtered out. Like I said it doesn’t bother me, it’s an infrequent nuisance, easily removed, by scratching it off while using the soap.I've never experienced it arriving dry and crumbly as some have according to their reviews, but I've had the bars I’m using dry out and get quite hard and brittle. All I had to do was wet them and stick them back together. The dry brittleness has not been a permanent condition in my case. Also, my advice is that if it's in a poor condition when it arrives either return it and a get a new block. If that’s not an option try sealing it in a plastic bag and then warm it up in warm water or with a heating pad. I find it gets very malleable at even in the low 70 degrees Fahrenheit. For instance it was only 72 degrees Fahrenheit when I was cutting mine up. It was soft and very easy to cut. I used some of the crumbles and thin slices to fill in missing areas on the block I was slicing to fill in gaps and uneven places to make my bars more evenly shaped. I find it almost like working with stiff clay, not difficult, in my experience.

Great for eczema and pimples. It will not work for everyone. Just keep looking until you find one that works for you.

Best all-around bar soap I've ever used. I actually prefer this to Kiehl's bar soap, which lots of people seem to prefer over this. Nonetheless, it cleans well, smells amazing, exfoliates, and leaves a slate-like feeling. I would put it on the moderately-dry end of the spectrum, which is perfect for me.

Another great Jack Black product. It has the same wonderful smell as the liquid version, but the soap bar helps exfoliate as well. I've read some reviews which say the soap has lasted a few months... This was not my experience. I have gone through two bars in two months showering twice a day. You can't go wrong with either the liquid or the bar, however you will get more bang for your buck with the liquid soap. I will be ordering more of both and alternating between the two.

This soap has a clean, fresh scent. It lathers very well, but is long-lasting, and the bits of psyllium husk (at least that's what they look like to me) embedded in the soap help with exfoliation, which guys need even more than gals (and most of us don't get it!). I've been using Jack Black's products for a while and have never been disappointed.It is, like all Jack Black products, a tad on the expensive side, but it's a thick, high density bar of soap that lasts a long time, so unless you are a VERY enthusiastic scrubber it should last for at least a month or two.

Look let's be honest, who in their right mind pays 15 dollars for a bar of soap? Intelligent people, if their buying Jack Black Turbo bar soap. The smell is out of this world. It's not a bar you wash after a long "dirty" day at a factory. Rather a date night soap. The smell is like nothing else on the market and believe me I have looked for a cheaper option. Dr teal's rest and relax gets close (about 50%) but falls very short to the real thing. I can't say enough about this soap it is the perfect scent for me. Every woman I have been with since using this product has commented on how great it smells .

I created a monster and got my husband a Jack Black kit that this was included in. So now he loves it and wanted more. He loves the smell and the gentle scrubbing sensation and this is coming from some one who never gets excited about any soap..ever! And I love my husband, so I ordered more!

I've tried several body washes and soaps which smell great but as soon as I wipe myself with the towel, I don't sense the scent linger on my skin/body. I first bought this bar in late September/early October of 2013. I just bought my second bar a few weeks ago. The fact that one bar lasts half a year is beyond my imagination. So people claim that it's "expensive". Well, first, realize that you're investing in a quality soap (investing in the well being of your body, rather). And besides that, you're spending a measly 30 bucks on soap for 365 days. Even if you buy 3 bars, ok so $45 bucks, no biggie compared to those liquid body washes that you have to buy every 2 or 3 months that don't even last. There's a reason guys in the 60's were getting laid left and right (like in Mad Men)... they used soap bars. Trust me when I recommend this product. It lasts forever. My only recommendation is to buy a body sponge/loofah (google it). It's the most effective way to use a soap bar. Wet the bar, rub it a few times against the sponge to form a lather, and you're good to go. If you're using the bar and physically rubbing it all over your body, you're doing it wrong. And on a side note, it lasted me almost 6 months, and I take showers about 5 out of 7 days, so clearly the situation proves that if done right, this bar can last you a long time and it's a high quality product.Also, just to add I may sound crazy but I also bought their body wash liquid version (10 oz.) of this and I just top off and end my wash with some of this. I really just wanted to try it rather and it smells like this amazing Bengay/aroma scent that really clears your nasal passageway. BUT I'm sticking to this soap bar. Smells better, lasts longer. My wife loves this soap & uses it daily. She has beautiful skin. She noticed it does dry your skin so she has to use moisturizer on her face & must lotion her body. This soap does not have a perfumed smell to it, she only use this soap before bed. Do not rub directly on skin to avoid getting scratched, the soap has tiny pieces of tree bark. Use in a towel. Always use a soap dish & do not use white towels, the soap stains white face cloth & can be messy around the sink or tub without placing the cut bar into a soap dish.

Lathers really well. These don't have "glass" as some people think but little chunks of I think bark. So, don't lather with the soap directly. The soap doesn't have typical fragrance and smells very earthy like probably the ingredients it's made of and it looks odd in appearance. Other knock is the brown lather which might put you off at first, but I do feel clean after using it. I use it for my face and in shower.

This black soap is what I expected. I did however find pieces of foreign objects but alarming. I guess I expected that from where, and how it made. It's not gonna be (so-called) perfect until it's filtered and processed a couple times like the commercial stuff. I wanted mine pure and that's what I got.

I've used SheaMoisture's black African soap before and it made me breakout. I read that it was because the soap I was using was not natural and had ingredients that cause cystic acne. So I came here looking for all natural black soap and I found this. I was hesitant to buy because a few reviews had claimed that there had been glass and/or wood found in the soap. I bought this taking a chance, and I have to say I'm happy I took the chance. Before using the soap, I inspected it, making sure there was no glass. I cut the soap into smaller pieces and used a small piece in the shower for my face and body. The soap works really well for cleaning. It doesn't smell bad, but it does smell weird. I did find a tiny piece of wood but I was able to remove it easily. One con is that the soap does easily crumble while cutting, but it did not crumble when I was using it in the shower. I received the soap in 2 days using Amazon Prime.

Late review:I received 5 blocks of soap, weighing approximately 5.6lbs.. Great product, smells and feels like authentic black soap. It had ash and particles in it but that is expected since it's made from burnt leaves, cocoa beans etc., due to this fact I would not recommend anyone rubbing the raw soap on their skin, it's best to use a wash cloth. It has great lather so a little goes a long way. Do not leave in sitting in water as it will melt away, use a soap dish and drain water after each use (u can use that to wash your face).. good luck

Got this for my 15yr old for his acne and it works well. He has it on his back and shoulders so far it is clearing up. I did some reading online and found that it can be liquefied. So I now use it as a shampoo for my hair. I will definitely be ordering more before we run out.

I've been pleased with the many Jack Black products I have purchased. This one has a good natural fragrance, not too strong, but does last through much of the day. Super suds, but didn't feel like the bar did much in the way of exfoliating. Skin feels clean after use. Firm bar should last a few months for a retired guy who is not an aggressive scrubber. Probably won't use this as a daily shower soap, but for special occasions.

Great scrubbing bar, not too sandy. Scent is very woodsy - maybe not what I like best in warmer months, but it's so subtle and doesn't linger so I don't mind all that much. Bar lasting a good amount of time so far. I will update when it finally runs out.Exfoliating properties seem ok, doesn't sand you bloody, but you know the pumice or whatever is in there with each use.

Everything about this soap(smell, lather, texture) is great other than the price. There is no way to justify spending $15 for one bar of soap. Even at $5 each it would be a tough sell but such is the life of luxury. It was a nice one time buy but I won't be buying it again.

Great scent and scrubbing power. It makes you feel VERY refreshed and it lasts quite a bit longer than your standard bar of soap. My only complaint is the price. You could buy a box of Dove bars for half the price. While it's definitely a better bar of soap, the price is still not "completely" justified. Overall I'd recommend it, but only if you're serious about smelling good/feeling fresh and have the money.

Very good soap! Smells great, nice creamy soft lather that lasts for a entire body wash. Most other soaps or body wash has to be reapplied, @ 15 sec of application to a lufa thing did the trick. Also a must for me is a clean rinse, most others leave me feeling slick or still soapy but not this. Price is high but i sees this lasting 2 to 3 times as long as a bottle of body wash or other bar. It is about 1.5 times the size of other bars, so i think it will even out in the end. Will buy again!

This soap is pretty good, it lathers up really well, and has a nice gentle scrub. I wasnt big on the scent initially but its kinda grown on me. Only problem is the soap is really expensive for one bar. I've been using this bar for about 2 weeks and its more than half way gone. Bottom line for the price I probably won't buy it again.

This soap is good, and I really do like it, but it has so many small, sharp particles that they actually have really negatively effected my desire to use this soap. Soap should be carefree. I shouldn't have to devote any conscious brain power to using soap outside of what I need to pick the soap and to enjoy it. This soap has many small foreign objects in it that can be quite uncomfortable on the body if you're not careful. Sometimes the particle is just a slightly too-large piece of charcoal, but sometimes the particle is a piece of quarts rock or granite the size of old-school pin heads (like the colorful ball kind, not the flat metal kind). No matter what the object of the moment happens to be, it's *always* sharp feeling.

I've made do with this soap, but I've had better. It has burned me before. Don't use on any "sensitive" areas. This soap isn't strained well enough. It's part of the process of making black soap and someone just half a$$ed it. I guess I'm lucky I didn't find glass or screws in mine from reading the other reviews. I wash my dogs with this stuff then condition with one part apple cider vinegar and four parts water. I do the same for my hair. It works fine, but whoever makes this soap is really haphazard and careless and needs to refine their process before selling this product. I wouldn't use on kids.

Uhh, I like but hate this soap at the same time. I'm finding bits and pieces of hair in it. (not mine) There are super sharp chunks that will leave cuts in your skin if you aren't gentle and you rinse it out, Overall it seems to work well on lightening up my scar tissue from surgeries.It also will leave your skin dry. I highly recommend some shea butter or coconut butter on your skin afterwards. And maybe use it only a couple times a week when you need a good exfoliating.It will completely remove all of the impurities on your skin. I've also noticed I haven't been getting any acne.

I'm not sure if it is just this brand of soap but, this brand has irritated my skin and left it feeling so dry which is unusual for black soap; usually its use has had the opposite effects. The price is great for the amount of soap you're getting. I just think next time, I'll stick with my usual carrier.

This is pretty good soap. It was pretty broke up from shipping and handling but it made packaging the soap in zip lock bags easier. Will order this soap again!

I read some reviews before buying. And I have to be honest. I don't know what some people are talking about. A few people this bar of soap lasted them something crazy like 6 months. Now I knew they was insane and did not believe for a second. The only way this soap can last you 6 months is if you aren't washing yourself properly at all. I have a little left and its been about 3 weeks or so. The soap is not bad. The smell is very light. Not strong at all and does not leave a smell on your body after washing. Does not scrub well and is for the most part a smooth bar of soap. Let me put this out there. This product is not a bad product. It just is not worth the money. If it cost 5 to 7 dollars I would buy it again possibly. Maybe even 10 dollars. But 15 dollars is not worth it for this bar of soap. Before using this bar of soup I purchased a 15 dollar bar of soap from a different company and it although it was still not worth 15 dollars it had scrubbers in it, smelled better and gave me a better clean. Again, this product is not terrible. Just not worth the money. I feel like there are better products out there.

Just to give context, I'm assuming that "scrubbing" part require skin to soap contact. That's how I used the soap. Let me tell you, that "scrub" is no lie. After every use, I'm squeaky clean to the point where my finger won't even glide across the skin. Whatever moisturizer is in there, it's not enough. Body Moisturizer/Lotion is a necessity after every use. Furthermore, feel that it's overkill to use it any more than once per week. A shame since I absolutely love the smell and how it permeates the bathroom after every wash. Can't tell how long it lingers on the body though since the lotion covers up anything after. As for how long it lasts, kept a count and it took me exactly 15 uses before it ran out.

First, this soap LASTS. It's a semi-hard and large bar, and with daily use will last you up to a couple of months. On the other hand, the scent didn't last with me like it did with other reviewers. In a way, in my case, I'm not sure that that's a bad thing - as, it is a bit strong for my taste. Given these things, and considering the price, I can only give the soap 3.5/5 stars. As with anything produced by JB, though, if you enjoy some of their other products, this one is at least more a try if you have little disposable income.

It lathered well but smelled burnt.... I tried to make liquid soap with it but I can't mask the burnt smell...

There were what seemed to be sharp rocks inside. Also didn't smell like black soap should.

The soap inspires me to make my own.I did not like the consistency of the African soap, it is too soft.

Okay so first off I wanted a more pure soap and I have used a liquid black soap that I liked, so I was excited to able buy this soap in bulk but the soap has a lot of debris in it, I found rocks small pieces of wood and some other things that I don't know what they are. The soap seems to clean good but I'm giving this a lower rating cause I'm not happy with the debris.

Too Drying for the skin. I now make my own handmade soaps and now relised the black soap is really harsh and drying to the skin....

I have been using African Black Soap for many years and this is the first time I have ever had it burn my skin.I feel that it has not been fully cured. This is also the first time I have ever received this product sealed in a plastic bag, it has always been wrapped in paper previously. If it was wrapped in plastic before it was fully cured, that would stop the curing process as it needs air circulation to cure. Paper breaths, plastic does not. I will leave the block out of the plastic bag it came in for a month or so and then revisit it to see if I have the same reaction.

Wifey says I smell like black pepper after using this soap. she hates it and I also don't believe it's worth the price.

It smells great, but it has this waxy feel to my skin after washing. Not worth the money.

This smells just as good as the other Jack Black products, but I was disappointed that the bat was down to next to nothing after just two weeks.

I have been using this product for about a week now, and I believe that is enough to provide my opinion for this specific "soap bar". The scent of this bar is not something that I find to be that good. I don't really even know what to compare the scent to as it is something that I have never experienced before. It is very strong and isn't very masculine at all. I would never leave the house without putting on something to mask the scent. This bar will last a different amount of time for nearly everyone. If you shower under the water with this bar expect it to disappear quickly, if you don't, expect it to last longer. Personally, I shower under the water because if I don't I find this bar to really "drag" with resistance and it's very uncomfortable. The little specs on the bar do a fairly good job of exfoliating, but this will dry your skin out. I found my skin to feel on par with the common "hotel experience". By this I mean that sticky feeling you get when you shower at hotels with hard water and cheap soap bars. This feeling disappears after you dry off, then the dryness hits you like a brick. I experienced the itching and tightness on my back, and it was very uncomfortable. Ultimately, I will not purchase this soap bar again because I highly doubt it will even last me a month, it feels like a cheap soap after rinsing off, it dries you out, and it only exfoliates decently at best. With the huge market of products out there it is very difficult to find ones that really impress you, this is one of those products that you simply mark off the list to try. Not worth it!

Waste of my money. I can't even cut it without it breaking. Bought five pounds to retail....I don't know how much I will be able to sell.😥

If it weren't for all the extra crap in the soap that will actually cut into your skin, I'd of given this 3 stars. My wife looked at me like I was cheating on her with a kinky woman when she noticed the scratches. Thank God she realized it was the raw black soap. Spend the extra money to be more respectful of your skin.

I don't usually write a review but a boulder in a piece of soap is completely unacceptable. I personally make soap and am baffled as to how a 1" rock slips into the batch. Is there no quality control with this product? I would never buy this product again. Glad I found the rock cutting it into smaller bars. (seller was Empire Sales, Inc.)

There was a piece of glass in mine, it cuts my thigh, I am glad it wasn't my 2 years old daughter that I cut because I use it on her also.

it had more sand then what I was use to having in the soap , not good. I needed it so I used it ..... not from this company again

There is so much sand in our batch and ROCKS! Every time we take a bath it is filled with sand and we are throwing away rocks.

I never leave a review , but if I can save you some money then it's worth the time it took to type this. This soap has a very strong odd smell to it. I understand everyone is different, but this is that exception. I can't believe anyone would like the smell of this soap. Do not waste your money!!!

Was not impressed about this soap. I thought it would smell good but had too much menthol and nothing else. It reminded me of the steam room at the local gym where all the old guys hung out. The bar broke in half after 6 days. This turned out to be a complete waste of money, as many reviews say it lasts for weeks or months. Dove bar soap lasted longer than this and smells better. This soap also left me itchy in the oddest places and I've never had this issue with any other soap. I will say that it cleaned well and did not over dry my skin, but there are to many other soaps for a quarter of the price that can do this.

Way overpriced! Doesn't even smell that great

I read reviews how good this product was and how long it lasted but neither was true. I switched to this soap from Kiehl's scrubbing exfoliating bar which is twice the size, the same $15.00 price and is a much better product. I'm switching back to Kiehl's.PS: Are all the positive reviews real reviews or something the manufacturer publishes?

Terrible. Used it for four days and threw it away. Smelled okay, but not very manly. Too perfume-y smelling. When done showering my skin felt extremely tacky. Would not buy again. Stay far far away.
