Great TV, worth the money!
November 22, 2016
Love this TV....very highly rated in consumer reports and the remote works on several of my Sony devices as well which is great. Note that some comments you will see are for the 40 inch model and some or for the 48 inch model. I got the 48 inch for three hundred and seventy with free shipping and it is nice.

Sony quality easy network set up and the Netflix smart tv is very fast and as good as my Apple TV device. Would buy again. The extra $50 or so over a Samsung,LG is worth it
Awesome TV! Be careful opening and setting up bigger models. Don't be a fool and you will have a great TV that works.
December 9, 2015
This bad boy exceeded my initial expectations. I was about to buy a 48" Samsung when I saw this one for only like $50 more. The picture quality is pretty great in 1080p. Netflix in HD looks amazing if your Internet allows it.Right now it's dark and I noticed it was way too bright. I had to change the settings a bit and came away with a pretty nice picture while watching Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey (which is great in HD with a lot of dark scenes and outerspace stuff to adjust your settings with) on the Smart Netflix app. This tv actually buffers less than my fire stick did.The settings I have are: back light - 1, picture - 95, brightness - 40, color - 55, hue - 0, sharpness - 15, neutral, low, low, auto. Adv. Settings are medium, medium, 0, off, low, off. I have these set based on my current environment and then use the game mode settings during the daytime if I ever have to because I mostly use this TV during the evening/nightThe box it came in was pretty convenient. Open the top up, take the power cord, stand/screws, and remote out of the Styrofoam and close the top of the box back up and tuck the flappers back in. Flip it, cut the bottom open, and kinda dump the TV gently out of the bottom and if you have to carry it put a hand right on the bottom middle where it is thicker, that's where all the weight is. Try not to lift from the wide edges, it puts a lot of pressure on the panels and that's why most of the reviews with 1 star happen. People don't think to be gentle and smart while unboxing such a large and fragile piece of equipment.
Good TV for the Price
July 21, 2015
I bought this for my Dad's house. When it came in I went over and had to set it up for him. The setup was simple enough. entered in the wifi information and it immediately had a software update. Went ahead and got that installed and then checked out the smart functions. They worked well and not to slow as I thought they would. I had never used a smart TV before this one granted and usually use a PS4 for netflix and all that.I watched a few shows and movies on it before leaving and thought they looked as good as expected from this TV price point. I'm no screen expert but we all think it looks good. It has been a few weeks since purchase and my dad has had nothing but good things to tell me about it.If any problems arise I'll be sure to updateEdit: Just wanted to say been having TV for almost a year now with no issues. probably a bit of an old model now for people to be buying but if it works it works.
Everything and more!

I am so impressed with this television. This is our first smart TV purchase, and the first TV larger than 32" ever purchased. But I am blown away. The best part, hands down is wifi capability. Built in apps, youtube, amazon, netflix, vudu, and I am watching less and less cable. It really allows you to make the most out of your other wifi capable access points. For instance, we have a playstation-how we used to watch netflix and the like. Now we can connect that to a different television and have essentially 2 smart TVs. It is enormous. Huge, and looks really elegant being so thin. Refresh rate, number of ports, those sorts of things almost dissuaded me from this purchase. I am so glad it didn't. This meets our needs and more. Very thrilled. I should mention that I had to requset a replacement as the initial item had screen and pixel issues. The replacement was issued immediately, received in a few days. As always, Amazon customer service knocks it out of the park!

AMAZING picture quality
February 8, 2016
AMAZING picture quality. The TV was super easy to set up, very light wight for mounting. I was really iffy about the quality based on some of the reviews that I read but I must say that the quality is really good compared to other more expensive brands. I love the built in Netflix option with one quick button. We've had this TV for about 3 months and so far so good!
Don't Know Why We Waited So Long!
December 27, 2015
I cannot express the satisfaction we have for this television, both the 55" & this 65". Watching our newer shows in 1080p to our older shows in 480i, from zoom to stretch & all settings in between, it's as if we are watching movies we filmed ourselves! The picture is sharp, the colours are rich & vibrant, setup is quick & simple (not more than 10 mins/tv set), & I love the Internet functions, along with Netflix, Hulu, et al! We had Cox (aka Multimedia), then went with DirecTV. I think I'm a pro at troubleshooting & settings now. Feel free to ask me any questions about this product & cable issues! The picture is in 1080p, dot by dot, 16:4 low-light setting
com to replace a Samsung piece of crap. TV and Amazon both get 5 stars
August 4, 2015
Ordered this online at Amazon.com to replace a Samsung piece of crap. TV and Amazon both get 5 stars. Order experience was easy. They offered free 2-day delivery. They shipped yesterday and I got it today. You can't do better than that. TV is WAY better than the one it replaced, and for a fraction of the price. Clearer image, less glare on the screen. Much stronger, more stable stand. Yea! I am a happy guy all the way around. Hopefully, this will last longer than the Samsung piece of s*** I previously owned.
I am now very pleased with the new TV shipped
June 15, 2015
After having to return the first TV shipped because the unit was booting off and back on for no apparent reason, I am now very pleased with the new TV shipped. The color is excellent, and so far I have not encountered any other issues. Amazon customer service was easy to work with for exchanging the TV, and a new one was shipped within 3 days. My assumption is the first TV was a lemon.
I have bought 2 sizes of the same set.
May 26, 2015
Couldn't ask for more for the money. If I were building it I would tweak a few things, like giving us a 15 minute choice for the sleep timer. As it is it starts at 30 minutes. When you are on You Tube it only gives you so many seconds to make a choice before "it" decides what you will watch. This is annoying. And the remote is not intuitive, you have to figure out what does what, but once you do it is OK. As always Amazon is there for you if you need to do any exchanges.

Good for the price.
December 7, 2016
A good TV at a great price. The picture has depth and color when transmitting in HD but I was disappointed with the speakers and stand. The stand is not very sturdy and a cheap looking plastic. As far as the speakers, they are mounted on the bottom of the TV so the sound projection is aimed down and not out resulting in a muffled broadcast. I tried all the different settings but the sound was still a disappointment. I was thinking being a Sony the sound would have been better but unfortunately no. I did connect a set of JBL auxiliary speakers and it helped tremendously. Overall, it's a good TV for the price maybe to use in a guestroom or as a secondary set.

Speakers blew within the first day or so and the sound was never over 25. Planning on getting a sound bar so its not the biggest deal.
love it
May 21, 2016
Really, really love my new tv. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 was the low sound. I've adjusted everything, nut a lot of stuff is still hard to hear unless bumped up to 30 on the sound scale. Every once on a while something will come on that I have to turn the volume down for, to about 15. That's where I would prefer it be all the time. I don't want to blow out my hearing. Bluetooth would have been nice too, to hook up external speakers easier.Otherwise, no complaints whatsoever.Update.... Found a fantastic soundb bar by Saxhorn to hook up super easy. . Used the head jack cables with the sound bar that makes movies fantastic to watch.
Gets the job done
April 9, 2016
My first order of this TV arrived with a light leak on the screen, so Amazon quickly replaced it and had UPS pick up the bad one. Picture is great - crystal clear, actually, and unless you are extremely picky about sound, this TV does the job. 4 stars because the Smart TV functions are somewhat limited to just a small handful of apps. I also wish the power light was a more modern color (like blue) rather than the traditional 90's green, but that's just me being super picky. All around a quality TV.
I was very happy with the picture quality
February 17, 2016
I was very happy with the picture quality, and the user interface was decent, but the optical port wouldn't work with either of my sound bars. I ended up sending it back and getting a slightly larger Vizio for the same price, but the return was pretty painless. I would still recommend this TV despite my experience.
Great pciture, though green could be a little less garrish. WiFi is great!
February 2, 2016
I really love this TV with one exception: I don't like how it displays the color green at all. That's quite a shame as it is quite prevalent as you watch TV. I'm sure there is a way to adjust it but I haven't gotten around to that yet. Other than that, the picture is quite clear and good.I've used the WiFi connection to stream Movies and TV shows from Amazon and setup was a piece of cake. I called Tech Support for help doing it and they were terrific. Was fabulous getting it on Prime and a free 2 day delivery!I'd recommend this TV!

Great for the economy price but it has 2 faults
November 8, 2015
Great for the economy price but it has 2 faults.1. The speakers are facing downward on the bottom of the TV and they sound muffled. Because of this orientation much of the volume is lost. This design makes no sense. Yes you can add external speakers but that adds 2-3 more cables and speakers have to sit somewhere. Not ideal.2. Strangely the TV is remembering only SOME of my settings after I turn the TV off even for a few minutes. SO some basic TV settings stick; others dont. This is not a deal breaker but it is a sign that the TV is an economy model. All LCD based TV's have poor viewing from side angles -- and this TV is no exception. Anything more than 20 degrees to the left or the right and the display colors looks washed out. You can spend double the price and still have this issue so not a criticism of this model.
I so far love the TV
August 8, 2015
I so far love the TV. The only thing stopping me from giving it a 5/5 is the 2 problems I have had. One problem i have had is the TV will randomly turn restart, itll turn off then back on. Second, whenever the TV is turned on or change to my Xbox/WiiU, the view mode changes to stretch and I have to constantly change it to dot-by-dot as there is no permanent option. I've actually been contemplating returning this TV solely on these 2 problems. Minor conveniences, that customer support was no help on.
But it is very clear in HD and easily connected with Verizon FiOS
August 7, 2015
The first arrival was unsuccessful because the screen was cracked but the exchange was painless and we got the new TV within 3-4 days. Unfortunately, the TV does not have the ports for our old nintendo wii nor is it a machine that Amazon Prime supports for its free movie streaming. But it is very clear in HD and easily connected with Verizon FiOS.
so far so good. Picture is great
August 7, 2015
Just got it installed, so far so good. Picture is great, menu / remote a touch slow (nit picking). Will see how it holds up but picture is superior to the 40" Philips it replaced at the bar. Thin bezel surround allows this 43" screen to be same chassis size as the 40" Philips.
Sharp LC-43LE653U Smart TV
July 12, 2015
The first delivering of this TV was DOA. It appeared there was a crack in the screen and no video was visible. Amazon promptly sent an RA upon my request and took prompt actions to ship another unit. Thanks Amazon great customer support. The second unit arrived in three days and worked with the exception of the "Sharp" logo would randomly appear. I contacted Sharp customer support and they had me do a factory reset and have had no problems and I have had the unit for a week now. Picture is sharp and I am using a OTA antenna. Hooked up a Vizio sound bar which enhanced the sound. Like the "smart TV" and quick Netflix options. Have not had any luck with setting up the "Miracast" option even though I am running Win 8.1. Overall satisfied with this purchase.

TV is perfect size for my 12x12 guest bedroom. The only thing I don't like is that the Smart TV is slow to connect to my Linksys router when I turn on the TV.

Go with 55 or larger, 48 is too small. Great picture though but I should've gone bigger.
Picture quality is good.

I think the connection between the remote and TV is actually really slow. It causes some frustrating moments getting the TV to respond in a timely manner. Picture quality is good.
Disappointing

looks great in my living room
November 30, 2016
Received my brand new TV yesterday and set up was a breeze. No problems screwing in the stand and setting it up by myself (I'm a 5'6", female). TV is paper thin with clean lines, looks great in my living room. Agree with other reviewers the smart interface is clumsy and frankly practically non-existent. I don't have cable so I only watch streaming shows. All of the available apps are very dated. Only built in apps that are relevant are Netflix and Amazon TV. All the other apps are pretty lame, and don't show up on a home screen, you have to click through a few screens to get there. The image is also pretty average, and sound is probably below average. I ended up purchasing a streaming stick to watch anything of this decade, and a sound bar. All in all, it's definitely a budget set. I do think that it's a bit deceiving to call it a "smart" TV, as it doesn't have browsing functions, and the only "apps" that are pre-installed are completely irrelevant. Really important is that this particular model also isn't supported by Sony Essentials, which is basically the online support to allow you to install anything NOT pre-installed into your TV... I'm surprised a TV from 2015 doesn't have all the "normal" features of the brands other TV's. I actually double checked the box to make sure I got the right one because of how limited the functions were..

I have had multiple software issues with TV. Contacted Sharp customer support and they have been less than helpful. They indicated that there may be a firmware issue and have a download to fix it but it appears as though I have to jump through multiple hoops to have them send it to me. Please note that the issue is not with the seller it is with Sharp.
Ok for the price but weird.
January 2, 2016
I bought this tv to replace a sharp tv that I broke (my fault) and the model that I had was not avilable for sale anymore so I decided to buy this one. It is a good tv but for some reason, the tv shuts off and turns back on every 3 to 4 hours, I need to contact sharp costumer support about that one.The colors seem to be more fade than my old lcd tv. but overall sound and picture quality are alright sonsidering the price of this tv. The smart function is not really worth the extra money, especialy if you have a game console or an apple tv or something like that.
You get what you pay for.
December 30, 2015
Nice, cheap, light, easy setup, great picture... when viewed straight on. Skin tones quickly wash to pale blue/grey if viewed off-angle even slightly. Across a room, even at 4 feet above/below vertical its bad. Moving side to side is better, but yields poor colors at even 45 degrees off angle. I have 3 other tv's with far better performance than this, but that is why it is cheap.
OK quality, TV shuts off after only 2 days of use.
December 4, 2015
Decent picture quality after turning off default settings. Terrible picture with Aquamotion and Film setting enabled. Turn those off and it looks good. Not a good as my LG 46" Plasma, but good for the price. The TV shuts off while watching and has to be unplugged from the power in order to get it back on. Contact support with no response as of yet. Shutting off after 2 days of use. Appears Sharp has a LOT of shutting off problems with their products. No firmware updates available either.
TV keeps restarting
September 19, 2015
Almost one month into using this TV, I'm moderately satisfied. Everything is great and I would have given it a 5, except that the TV restarts every 20-30 minutes. I've been using this primarily as a monitor (HDMI). Initially, I thought it could be an issue with my computer or HDMI cable, but the issue ris replicated with other cables, or computers. Even with Miracast, this behavior is repeated albeit not as frequently.I'm afraid this issue might get worse and the TV might restart more often than it happens now.
No so Smart TV
July 20, 2015
The television came as promised, and the picture looks great. But I think this Smart TV brought home Cs on its report card. I'm frustrated that for some reason you can not add Apps on this model, and Hulu and Prime aren't on it. Also, the Facebook App was discontinued earlier this year, so it doesn't function. It would be great if Sharp would release updated software for download.

Fickle TV, don't buy.
August 2, 2017
This TV will make you very happy for five months, then crap out on you. At least mine did. 1) the receiver 2) audio output 3) random turn offs. 1) The first issue is that the remote is weak or the TV is not responsive to it. I made sure there are no obstructions, and I receive the blink from the sensor on the TV but nothing happens. Whether it's switching inputs, or channels. 2) Second, I have a simple samsung sound bar that I connect to the tv via digital optical cord. One day it just stopped working. The other settings on my sound bar worked. So I thought maybe it was the cord itself. So I order a new one. Play with the TV settings. And violá. It works. *BUT* this morning the TV decided not to like my speakers again. I again made sure it wasn't my speakers. And it is not. I figured, fine--I'll just use the TV speakers and no sound was omitting. 3) Thirdly, the TV randomly shuts off. It has done this maybe five times in the 8 months I've had it. But that's five times to many.I'm surprised Sony would make such a shotty product. Wish I could return it but I'm moving abroad and it would complicate lots of things. Should have wrote this review earlier.
I really enjoyed this TV for a few months
May 30, 2017
I really enjoyed this TV for a few months. Then I was running into connection issues. I'm not a person that usually complains but I have tried everything to get a better connection and nothing seems to work. It's a shame I spent this amount of money that I can barely use for streaming.
Not an actual "smart" TV
March 21, 2017
I was so excited when I got home and seen this on my porch. I immediately set it up and put the stand on. I started playing with it and realized that it only has a few streaming channels and there is no option to add more. I use Hulu religiously. Unfortunately, there is no Hulu on this TV. I spent an extra 75 dollars to get this "smart" TV but if I would've known it had no option to add more channels, I would've just bought the Roku TV. Not only that, but the whole right side of it is brighter than the rest, especially in the top right corner. Like its been dropped or something. Not worth the money. It has a good picture and it's lightweight, but the only thing I use a TV for is streaming. So now I only have Netflix and amazon. To me, if you can't add more streaming channels, then it's not really a "smart" TV. I'm very disappointed. Will probably return

Slow to Launch & Not So Smart
November 6, 2016
Disappointed with the lack of SMART functionality in this TV. I don't have cable so was primarily buying it for the apps, which take a very long time to load (and can be inconsistent to launch). No option to download more apps, or connect to the internet - think carefully about what you want from this TV before buying! Very happy with Amazon customer service who helped me return the item.
Horrible and definately not worth it
August 3, 2016
this tv sucks, it freezes all the time when messing around with netflix after its been on a while. Its media player is slow and sometimes unresponsive. It doesnt have enough input/output hookups. You cant even hook it up to a stereo. I have 11yr old samsung lcd hd and the pic is better, media player is spot on, it has hookups for anything i need. This is just a basic tv to say you have a big tv

Don't waste your money
April 10, 2017
I've had this tv for a while now. It has some issues with the volume turning off when I'm going through my tivo screens and staying off until I either factory reset it or unplug and replug it back in. It also turns itself back on several minutes after being turned off, whenever it feels like it. I had these problems since I first got it, but it isn't so annoying (yet) to justify the hassle of getting it replaced. The sound isn't all that great. I had to get a sound bar for better quality (and I have the same sound problem with the bar, so I know something wonky is happening with the boards in this tv).
Turns itself on now!
April 2, 2016
While the picture is nice (to my eyes), over the past couple of months the TV has developed a bad problem: it turns itself on - this is especially troubling at night. I taped over the IR sensor area to no avail. Internet searches show other instances of this issue with other Sharp TVs -- am afraid this is going to be a major pain... Heads up on this issue!
Dissapointed.
October 27, 2015
Ended up returning the unit during the 30 day window. Sound kept going out and Netflix stopped working. Swapped for a Samsung.
Sound is unreliable
October 3, 2015
I really liked this unit initially. I first purchased a returned unit via Warehouse Deals. Picture was great, unit is very attractive, worked very well and the family was happy until.... the sound stopped. The only thing that will bring the sound back is a complete power cycle of the unit (meaning you have to unplug it).I thought I had a dud, so I returned it and bought another one full price. Same issue: Every few days, the sound will stop and we have to unplug the unit to fix it.I'm sure I could contact Sharp tech support, and I'm sure they'd tell me it's the Roku's fault, or something. But my previous TV never had a problem hooked to the same HDMI cable, and anyway who needs the hassle? I've given Sharp two chances and that's enough of my time wasted. Given the large number of sound-related complaints in the reviews here, I'm confident I should spend my money elsewhere.Too bad -- I really like this TV when it's working.
TV is fine when it works
September 22, 2015
TV is fine when it works. I've had the set not even 4 months and it is stuck on a frozen black screen. None of the buttons on the TV respond to anything, same for remote. I was able to get service (under warranty) so I'm leaving 2 instead of 1 star. Having said that, keep in mind in purchasing this unit. Mine was defective. I usually buy Samsung units (of which I've had no problem with) but I was trying to be cheaper for this one. Perhaps you get what you pay for?
TV powers off and back on.
August 27, 2015
The picture quality is good, better black levels than my gaming monitor and Sony Bravia HDTV. However, 2 things.1. Set randomly powers off and back on. It's happened 6 times and I just set it up 6 hours ago. The audio has also cut out and back on a few times. I'm using a filtered UPS so I know it's not the power.2. When using with a PC it keeps resetting the zoom setting overscanning the sides. It supports a pixel perfect mode. You set it. Next time you switch inputs or the tv does it's power off glitch, it resets to overscanned zoom.Sending it back.

Poor
April 23, 2017
Not happy at all. We own several smart TV's and this is by far the least impressive. While, light and easy to install we have had many performance issues. Sound quality is poor and we are now considering adding external speakers to augment. The speed of our internet is quite good, as our other TV's and wifi enabled devices work well. But this TV is very slow to respond on power up and it takes several mins before Netflix and other providers even show on the menu. We had a wifi booster within a couple of feet of the TV but no improvement.I would not buy this item again and am sad to say this Sony product is bust compared to other items from Sony I had purchased. If other buyers have had similar issues and have advice please share. Thanks.

Sony reneges on Warranty
January 4, 2017
This TV is a real disappointment. I purchased it as a second TV and used it about 20 hours when a bright triangle appeared in the upper right corner. I contacted Sony and after sending pictures, they said the TV was physically damaged and voided the warranty. I explained we were 69 years old with no children and that no one could have damaged the TV and that there was no visible damage on the outside. This did not change anything. I asked if the TV could have been damaged in shipping and it took a while to manifest itself. The person said that was possible but said they would not honor the warranty.
Defective panel
January 2, 2017
Mine arrived with a defect in the panel. It looks like the backlight was shining though an area in the corner regardless of what's on the screen. The menus and the built-in test image all showed the same strange blob. Also, one of the USB ports was cracked. I don't know whether I got a used refurb or just unlucky (I bought it directly from amazon as new). Either way, amazon accepted the return. I'm not terribly impressed with Sony at this point.
Excruciating warranty process
January 19, 2016
The TV, for the (about) four hours it worked, looked very nice. Sony's warranty process is horrible. If you find yourself in my situation, where the TV failed nearly immediately out of the box, I recommend going through Amazon rather than Sony. Details below...1. The TV stopped working after one afternoon of using it... I contacted Sony immediately and started the warranty process. Due to the description I gave (I smelled a light smoke, like you smell when an electrical component fails), I was handed to several departments before they started the claim.2. Again... Due to my description, they stated that a supervisor would have to call me, and it would be within 3 business days.3. Three FULL business days later I was called by a contracted technician who said he'd come out the following day4. Tech shows up, looks at the TV, and states that there's really only one part that can fail, that's what I'll need... He'll write it up and be back to repair the TV.5. A week later I haven't heard anything, so I call Sony who, after a good bit of digging, find that the contractor hasn't yet sent in the report, and that they have 10 business days to do so. I escalate and am told a supervisor will call within 2 business days.6. A supervisor called the same day and basically told me there's not a thing they can do... They have to wait for the paperwork and then they'll figure out how to go about addressing my problem. It's been a day shy of two weeks since my brand new TV failed, and I still don't know when I'll be back up and running. Sony's communication and responsiveness have been abysmal.

as of now, I am not happy. The TV froze up after a week and stopped working. Sony is sending me a new remote to start the "fixing" process. That takes 7 business days to send it to me??? Why not overnight it?? Then it also may be a TV issue after that. I am going to call and see if I can return the TV. Very disappointed with the way Sony is handling this.

worked great for 6 months
February 10, 2017
Bought this 11/20/2015 here on Amazon, worked great for 6 months, then Netflix feature died....whenever I tried to use Netflix on the "smart TV" in the TV set, it went to a blank screen for a few seconds, then back to the previous input. No big deal, got a PC attached to it and my DVD player has Netflix. Now, a little over a year since I bought it, It won't power on at all. Called Sharp, it's out of Warranty, by a few days. I bought the extended warranty from Assurent, have started the claim filin g process, will see how that comes out, but I am very much wishing I had bought something else. Will never by a Sharp product again!
Never buy Sharp!
August 23, 2016
Had the tv for 11 months and one morning I turn it on and the screen is blank. Not "off" mind you, but blank. The backlight is lit but nothing at all displays. I am now jumping through all the Sharp customer service hoops like so many others.UPDATE: 12/27/2016. Tv main board fried again on Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas me! Sharp parts phone number only give you a another phone number to a thieving "Angie's electronics" that wants $331 for the card but will not sell to the general public. They say I must go through an electronics repair business. You can buy all 3 circuit cards for the LC-65LE654U for around $100 from many sources online but I cannot locate the main board for the LC-65LE654U-A. For the price of a "repair man" and part I can buy a newer tv although slightly smaller. Sharp knows these cards are issues and made no effort to ever fix it. They only "refurbish" old cards that will still go bad due to faulty design. Thank your my $1000 paperweight Sharp.
Not a tv so much as a psychological torture test to see just how much you can endure
March 21, 2016
Everything 'smart' about this TV stopped working. After every periodic update something else would get more glitchy or quit working or completely disappear from menu options, or stop being accessible altogether. Can no longer operate with a remote so can basically turn it on/off, turn the volume up and down, and change the input (HDMI, HDMI 2, Cable, etc.)- all which has to be done with the one power button, a huge pain. The only remote button that the tv responds to- is the input button. So cannot access the menu etc. The Netflix option worked for a while but then quit. Resetting the tv did not restore defaults but eliminated previous options that were once accessible from the menu. Really a bit of a nightmare of a tv from the beginning- between the glitchiness, unpredictability, unscheduled annoying updates that would get stuck for days until I just gave up and turned it off against the warnings over interrupting the update- and it just randomly shutting off and having to be reset to work at all. Please seriously consider your chances of getting one of these lemons compared to one that works like it is supposed to and the headache you will have- even if the manufacturer and customer service is good(which I don't know) you could be like me and really really really hate having to bother trying it and you can avoid it completely by deciding on a different purchase that isn't so risky. I much prefer items that work like they are supposed to so you don't have to waste your time trying to get it fixed- I didn't buy the hassle, I bought the tv on the premise that it will function as it is supposed to.
Updated - Worst TV Ever! - Kept losing audio
December 7, 2015
Kept losing audio. Only way to get it back on was to unplug the tv and force a hard reboot of it. Called sharp, they sent a tech to fix it. They replaced the green board inside. It worked when they left, but started doing the same thing a day later. Now they are going to send me a replacement tv. I'll post again if the next one is any better.I've received my replacement tv. This one is having the exact same problem. Calling Sharp again!Another Day Another Sharp TV Repair Guy. 5 Months later. 4 Main Boards Later. 2 TV's Later. 2 Sets of Speakers Later. 2 Power Supplies Later. Still same problem. If it could give it a zero star, I would. DO NOT BUY THIS TV!Hoping to get my money back. Somehow I feel like there is fat chance of that happening. 400 dollars down the drain. I'll let you know if I do.Ha Ha. Just saw that Sharp commented on my post. They are happy that my problem has been resolved. Rediculous. It IS NOT resolved and will not be. I'm a computer guy and I know bad software when I see it. They keep replacing Hardware over and over again. This TV will not be fixed until someone who knows what they are doing can re write the firmware or sound driver.
Defective and Problems each time.
November 22, 2015
I received this as a replacement because the screen came broken the first time. This item was defective and a piece of garbage. The volume buttons on the side of the TV are switched. The volume down does not turn down the volume, instead it turns up the volume. Vice versa with the volume up button (lowers the volume). I recently found out that the TV randomly turns off when watching it for no reason. Great! After asking for it to be replaced multiple times, they refused because Amazon said it was out of the return date etc. Overall, I am extremely dissatisfied with this product and will be doing everything I can to get rid of it.
This TV Has Sound Problems - Personally, I Think It Has a Bug
May 9, 2015
I am amending this review to reflect my experience since I bought this tv. I bought this in early May, 2015. In June I started having issues with the sound. Whenever I used some sort of device such as a Roku or Apple Tv, sound would go and I would have to unplug the tv and essentially reboot it. Tech Support had me do some sort of reboot with the remote which helped for a while. The problem returned in July and then one day, the tv wouldn't turn on. Tech support quickly realized I needed to have someone come out. Tech support was fine. The problem was the warranty folks. I was kept on hold a long time and was treated rudely when I asked a simple question. I was also told someone would call in 3-5 days (!) to set up an appointment. Through Twitter (I communicated with Sharp through Twitter which worked well) I learned that someone was supposed to come on the 12th of August. No one came. I got a call on the 13th and someone came out. Fortunately, it was a day I was able to work with. That person was very nice. He replaced two boards, one for the sound issue and one for the tv not turning on. This fixed the problem. But the sound problem has since returned. It is the same. If I try to rewind on Roku or Apple tv, sometimes I lose sound. Warranty wants to send me a refurbished, use piece of equipment. It insists that I am outside the warranty coverage period. I explain I spoke with them less than two months after I got the tv.The warranty company refused to help me, but Sharp somehow got this resolved and I ended up with a new tv. However, the same sound problem exists. See below for my update. The TV ItselfAs to the tv itself. For the price, it is a nice tv. It is extremely light, very bright and has a very thin frame. I was surprised at how much smaller flat screens have gotten, in terms of their frames, over the past 7 or 8 years. This is not, however, a truly smart TV. There is a Netflix button on the remote which has never worked. I cannot get Netflix to work directly through the Internet on this tv. I have a Roku though, so I didn't care about it. There are a limited number of channels available through the Smart portion of the tv. So, if you are looking for a truly Smart tv with a lot of channels available, this isn't it. At least not as of this moment. However, it does connect to the Internet and it does have a few channels. I simply haven't tried to use any of them beyond Netflix.Update, January 2016Here is what I think. I think this TV has a bug. The bug involves using a Roku or an Apple Tv and it is this: Somewhat frequently, when you rewind, or when you watch Netflix and it automatically goes to the next show, the sound goes out. I have found two ways to get the sound to go back on. The easier way is to simply switch the input over to something else. Sometimes that brings the sound back. But often I have to unplug the tv and then plug it back in. When I do this, the power light comes on when I plug the tv back in, and then shuts itself off again. When I turn the tv back on, the sound is back.As you know from the rest of my review, I ended up with a replacement tv. Since this tv has the same exact problem, I think that Sharp really just needs to look into this problem and fix it. Hopefully a firmware update will come along sooner or later.
