This printer is not bad at all
September 11, 2016
This printer is not bad at all. Only thing that could be better would be the scan of a photo. Makes absolute perfect copies even with computer turned off. HP is known for making good printers. The ink for this one is not too much for either black or color. Don't forget to not have any of that junk software installed at the beginning. Its like 6 to 8 software items. Don't check any of it. Read carefully. I'm digging this printer for being under 100 bucks. Yeah, I'd recommend this printer to others.

This is a great printer! It has worked perfectly since I purchased it. I have printed documents and pictures. The documents are clear. The pictures turn out great! The color is perfect and the pictures look natural. The printer is quiet when it prints. It was easy to hook up. I like the wireless hook up so I can print from anywhere in my house. It is also nice to be able to print from my cell phone. The ink seems to last better than the other printers I have had. Overall this is a great printer.
Exactly What I Needed
July 26, 2016
I was having problems with my old printer and thought it may have something to do with the refilled ink cartridges I was buying so I went to purchase brand new ones. It was going to cost me $100 just for the ink cartridges and that may not have even been the problem. I decided to just get a brand new printer with ink cartridges that were affordable. I came across this and thought I would try it. I use this at home to print whatever on regular paper. I do not print out photos, but I think this would do just fine. The installation was extremely easy and I am not really that tech savvy. I could not get it to sync with my laptop on-line, I had to use the CD, but that was fine. I went to the HP website and I picked my printer, but when I clicked on the "begin" button on the site, but nothing happened. Not sure, but I got it to work. The color and black ink work great with no smearing or anything like that. I have used the scan function a couple of times and it is super easy to use too. It holds a good amount of paper for me. We really do not print a lot here so even the starter ink that it came with is still in there. The replacement ink cartridges are reasonably priced as well as this printer. I love the touch screen. It registers my light touch just fine. I cannot say enough good things about this printer. It really has worked for what I need it for.
Great printer/copier/scanner! (now with 1 Year update)
July 19, 2016
HP consistently produces top quality printers, and this Wifi enabled Envy 5660 is no exception. If you want something reliable that just needs ink and paper, this is what you need.=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=UPDATE after over a year ("notes from the field")I have owned a LOT of printers, primarily Epson years ago and HP models in recent years, and I am quote pleased to say that this is by far the best and easiest printer to use that I have ever owned! I summed it up quote well even a year ago: all it needs is paper and ink. You will not be disappointed - HIGHLY recommended! Works perfectly with high weight (I. E. 28# bond or 30# "photo" grade paper). I have never had one single problem with this printer - except my own lack of foresight in keeping ink on hand. That beings up the HP "Instant Ink" conundrum. It works quote well IF you print consistently the same amount of color and B&W pages each month, otherwise you are better of "rolling your own". That also begs the question about OEM/HP inks versus 3rd party ink makers. I have to say that I have never had problems with HP inks, but I also have to say thar t within reason, most 3rd party ink manufacturers make first quality ink at this point. Admittedly this may not have been the case a couple of years ago, but it's no longer true. Personally I do stay away from the remanufacturer or refill type ink cartridges, but your mileage WILL vary. If you are comfortable using them, you can save money. In my mind, it's with a few extra coins to stock with OEM or 3rd party ink.
The future is here!

I can't believe I waited this long to buy a new printer!Home printing technology has really come a long way in the past few years. Our previous printer was a Lexmark all-in-one with wifi, but this printer blows it out of the water. In this mobile age where people barely even use computers anymore, the Lexmark printer was showing its age. It didn't allow us to print from our mobile devices. The HP Envy does all that and more! Not only can you print wirelessly, you can connect your device directly to the printer, no wireless router required. You can also print from anywhere in the world, just by emailing your printer.Scanning documents and pictures have never been easier. Use the app on your device to scan and crop documents or pictures, which are then sent to your phone.HP also offers a service called HP Printables which allow you to subscribe to different things that will automatically print at whatever schedule you set.Now with all this printing, you'd probably screaming "What about the ink?!" Well HP also offers another service called Instant Ink. It's a subscription service where they send you ink cartridges, and you pay for an allotment of pages each month. The lowest tier is 50 pages/month for $2.99/month. Each additional 15 pages is just $1. And when the ink gets low, they will automatically send replacement cartridges. Talk about convenience, and savings to boot!So if you're still using that old "dumb" printer, I recommend throwing that piece of junk away and getting this or any of the other new HP printers.
Prints beautifully !
March 31, 2015
Exceptionally versatile printer. VERY EASY to set up for your home network. Comes with downloadable extras for making all kinds of printed material for use everyday. I read a guy's review on this before my purchase. I don't find it as noisy has he may have, but I was (and still am) using a 14 year old HP Deskjet that is becoming more difficult to find cartridges for. I have 3 computers and the ENVY 5660 fit ALL their needs to print anything, anywhere, anytime. Even from your smart phone with a small HP app download for your phone. The review I read was not overstated on anything but the gentleman wondered (as he hadn't tried it) how card stock would do. I do a LOT of card stock and it passes through this computer quite well. No hitches or glitches. I would caution only one thing: When you remove it from the box it comes in, ENSURE you have removed ALL the blue tape used to hold removable items with. A couple of the pieces are quite well hidden because / for shipping purposes. You will enjoy this item. Prints beautifully !

$2.99 a month and never buy ink again. Hoot! Hoot!
September 24, 2017
I am a wannabe artist and bought this to print out images and silhouettes. I love the instant ink feature. Ink is so expensive. That's one of the reasons I bought this because it was cheaper than buying ink for my old one! Now for $2.99 I never have to worry about ink again. Yeah!!😁 I've never really printed pictures on it but I love it. I can print from my phone or iPad so the world is good! I also read it was good for printing Coloring pages so that's another plus.I love how easy it is to use too. I sometimes need to increase or decrease the size of images and it's so easy. When I had to replace my ink cartridges there was a video to show me how. How cool is that?I had my last HP printer for over 12 years and never had a problem with it. It still worked when I got rid of it. It just needed ink. So you can count on HP. If it last half that long I'll be happy!! So buy it now!💕💞
great printer so far
May 1, 2017
great printer so far, prints good color, good speed. Scans/copys clear. fairly easy interface and was easy to connect via wireless etc. Time will tell if it lasts and what kinda cartridge life I get out of it. Im a med to low qty user.5/17/2017So far, Ive been through the sample cartridges, and almost a full pack of 62xl which are the extended life units. I have printed 397 total prints so NOT TOO IMPRESSED with cartridge life so far. Most of those were monochrome prints to boot.8/20/17Look elsewhere.....ive been thru XL and standard cartridges. $185 for 695 prints...most of em black. Prints good...total BS on ink life....doesn't seem to matter where you get ink. Look elsewhere, this is an INKHOG!!
Good printer, Bad start up manuel.
March 25, 2017
I like the printer, however, the get started booklet sent me to a site "123.hp.com" that ended up infecting my computer. When I went to the site I was invited into a chat. The chat asked for my name and phone number so an expert could help me. The expert, Roy, called me and took over my computer, without asking permission. This should have clued me in but I was trusting because I thought I was dealing with hp. Roy managed to infect my computer with 3880 objects, and he was unable to get my printer working from my computer. I was able to get it to print from my computer after Roy was finished. In the future I will only go to an official site regardless of what the instruction book tells me to do. Good printer bad start up booklet.
Good printer for photos!
January 1, 2016
I like this printer a lot. I bought it because my old printer failed to print the color yellow. I wanted a printer that was good for excellent photo printing, and based on my observations so far it is a good buy.I found it easy to set up following the instructions. It gave me a weird error message when I tried to remotely log it into the wireless network according to the instructions, but it turned out that it had really connected and when I reran the wizard it went through fine.I'm trying the HP Instant Ink arrangement. I realize that the fact that the color ink comes in a single cartridge is a way of making sure I go through more ink, and it's a bit of a racket to sign up for a monthly fee rather than pay for it myself when needed, but it is a convenience and if the cost is not too bad it will be worth it in the end. And if I don't like the Instant Ink arrangement I can stop at any time and just buy ink when I need it.All in all, it's a good deal. I'd rather the color inks were in separate cartridges to make it a little more cost-effective, but that's a minor issue for me.
So far, so good.
April 30, 2015
I just got this printer a couple of days ago. Here are a few tips and comments. 1) Do everything in the order specified in the setup directions, especially connecting the printer to the computer and loading the ink cartridges. 2) Use "bright white" paper. The thin cheap stuff will cause paper jams. It won't happen with the heavier gauge paper. 3) I initially had out of paper messages, but they went away after I loaded the paper correctly. 4) After loading the software disc, don't register for anything you don't want, even though you're continually prompted to do so. There is a way to opt out of all the sales pitches. Scroll down and you'll see the tabs. They look greyed out, but you can still use them. The printer will work fine without all the addons HP is trying to sell you. 5)The wireless functions work nicely. My other computer recognized the printer, installed the drivers, and printed remotely with no problem. 6) The feature that allows you to print photos from your phone is also really nice. Just download the HP ePrint app and you're good to go. 7) If you're shopping for a printer that will make lab quality photos, this not the one for you. The few that I've printed are fine for me, but I'm not a professional. If YOU are, then you'll have spend a lot more for the results you want. This is just my opinion, though. I'm not experiencing any kind of high pitched sounds that some other reviewers were hearing, but obviously some people are hearing them.If I run into problems, I'll make another post.
Pleased With This HP ENVY 5660 All -In-One Inkjet Printer
December 14, 2014
I read LOTS of reviews of other printers before purchasing this one. I have an HP computer and wanted an HP printer to avoid any compatibility issues. I've owned 2 HP printers previously and wore both of them out. During my search, the most frequent complaint I found was that most of the newer printers take separate color ink cartridges and will not print, even in black and white, unless all the cartridges are full, forcing users to have to change cartridges which are not empty. In my opinion, this is a rotten way for printer manufacturers to treat their customers, as the cost of ink is already ridiculous and having to remove cartridges that are not empty is pretty outrageous. Who wants a bunch of half-filled cartridges lying around? Also, the initial cash outlay for separate color cartridges is much higher than for the tri-color ones. Evidently, HP listened to those complaints, as THIS PRINTER TAKES ONE black cartridge and ONE tri-color cartridge, (#62) which runs about $32 for a combo pack. The combo pack also includes free 5 X7 photo papers and envelopes, a feature that I use a lot. If it runs out of one or more colors, it will still print. The printer itself is a good one. Copies and scans come out crisp and clean, as do photos. (I made all my holiday cards on the free photo paper this year, and they turned out very nice.) Changing cartridges is easy- you lift the lid and the glass plate, pop out the old one and snap in a new one. I do a lot of scanning and it is very easy, providing you load all the features into your computer from the CD that is included. I did NOT have to download any drivers from the internet. It also prints wirelessly, a feature that I haven't used.Another common complaint was having to always print an alignment page and go through the alignment process before you could print. HP changed this too, as a box now pops up, giving you the option of aligning, postponing or cancelling alignment. You can also postpone alignment from the touchscreen on the printer. It takes all sizes of paper, and prints well on glossy photo papers. The only thing I have not tried yet is card stock. It is a bit noisy, but this is not a big deal for me. I do need to remind myself to push in the spring-loaded pop-out paper catcher when I'm finished, so that I don't bump it and break it. Printing is quick on text documents and a little slower on photos, but the quality is excellent, so I don't mind the speed being a little slow.Everything you need comes in the box, but don't forget to purchase extra ink, as the cartridges that come with it contain less ink. I've had this printer for about a month and have used it a LOT. So far, NO paper jams! All in all, I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend this printer to anyone looking for a good home or small business printer. Thanks for listening, HP!

June 11, 2017
The print quality is good, but we had to spend more than an hour on the phone with tech support setting it up (I've never had to call tech support to set up something like a printer). Also, the printer stopped working after a few days and continues to give an error message saying that the paper tray is empty, although it's not. We are using it with a Mac computer and I see there are a lot of online boards, going back to 2016, saying that the computer gives this error message with Mac computers. It sounds like there might need to be photo paper in the photo paper tray to allow it to print on regular paper (even if you are not trying to print on photo paper). I don't know yet because I don't have photo paper. Very annoying.
it prints beautiful photos. However
April 11, 2017
When I can get this printer to work, it prints beautiful photos. However, it's a daily struggle to get this printer to stay on the Wifi to print wirelessly and it's a huge struggle to get the printer to print on photo paper. The problem is that HP wants customers to use its papers. I happen to love Epson photo paper and want to use it in 4x6 size to print my photos. HP made the photo tray to this printer just a little bigger than 4x6 and made their paper match that size exactly. Unfortunately, any other 4x6 size paper will result in a sensor error, so instead of using the convenient photo tray, you have to wrangle the printer to get the paper to work correctly. Search the HP forums for something like HP 5660 won't print on photo paper and you'll see what I'm talking about. Also, the HP customer support is some of the worst support I've ever had to deal with. My next printer will not be HP. I feel like I need to use this one for at least a year to get my money's worth, though.
The printer worked fine the first day
February 1, 2017
The printer worked fine the first day. The second day, the color cartridge malfunctioned and would not print yellow or magenta.I called HP and after an hour of technical support they asked me to look at the date on the cartridge. The color cartridge that came with the computer expired on 12/31/2016! The HP tech said the cartridge was expired and the ink was bad, and because it was expired it wasn’t under warranty!!! After much argument HP agreed to send me a spare cartridge. It’s VERY disappointing that a printer I purchased in January 2017 from this seller, came with an expired cartridge right from the start. I emailed seller on 1/17/17 and never got a response!
and i'm great with this stuff
November 11, 2016
software was glitchy, i had alot of trouble hooking up 3 cpus, and i'm great with this stuff. I did get it to work so we will have to wait and see. Also didn't like the fact that I couldn't send a scan to where ever I decided, (according to tech support) it had to go to file explorer. Well, i figured out a way to put it right on the desktop. I don't want to search for my new scans, plus i made it pop up on new scans too.
It's an OK printer but I liked my old one better
October 14, 2016
Have had the printer about three weeks. Am a senior and prefer having paper instructions. This only comes with setup instructions. It doesn't take a SD card from my camera [or I don't know where to find it }. It does print quickly from my phone. The holder that slides out to hold the paper no longer slides back in. After only using it a few times. ?? That is disappointing as it is not convenient to have it out when not in use. I find putting paper in inconvenient. ie sliding the tray out etc. Doesn't hold as much paper as my old HP, or photo paper. It's an OK printer but I liked my old one better.
First didn't work; replacement did.
March 16, 2015
First printer stopped working after 4-5 days. Called HP. They were very nice and tried to be helpful but ultimately I wasted well over four hours on the phone with tech support to learn (what I already knew) the printer's wireless card was faulty. To HP's credit, they sent me a new printer in a few days. I set up the new one. Works fine but it is very loud -- to the point that it sounds like something is stuck in it. Nothing is stuck in it. I guess -- other than the loudness, the days I waited to get a replacement, and the hours & hours I spent on the phone with HP, it's an okay purchase. The loudness is a bit annoying. I don't even want to get on the phone with HP again. I already wasted all that time so I will 'suck it up' and live with the noise.

What is the point of buying a sophisticated printer if the software is so bad and it can't function when needed?
July 14, 2017
If there is one thing good about having a printer at home, it is printing any document quickly and once you need it. Otherwise, I have a printer at work that I can use!Now if this product's software is so retarded, to the point of having some sort of random error more than 50% of the times, it defeats the whole purpose of having a printer at home!Any subtle change in literally anything, can throw this printer's software off. Even if I change the internet password or change the ink cartilage, the software stops recognizing the internet network, and the laptop stops seeing the printer, and you have to restart everything now (while you are getting late now because you thought you had the luxury of printing at home and at will). The software is frustrating, nerve wrecking, and very whimsical (spontaneously starts working, then spontaneously chooses to stop). It is just frustrating to see this sophisticated machine in front of you, but you simply can't use because of its retarded software.I needed to print documents urgently about 10 times throughout the last year, and this printer turned me down in at least 75% of the time.I am so disappointed with HP honestly. Thanks for nothing.
Too much trouble!
June 8, 2017
Slow to respond with print command. Noisy. Getiing "printer off-line" message almost constantly. Had to pay local computer tech to come twice to resolve issue. Even though I have a wireless network he still had to connect the printer with a cable to my laptop to get it working. It makes great copies but I wouldn't buy it again. It's been too much trouble. My other HP printer (3050A) is about 10 years old and performs like a charm on the network. Should have purchased that instead of the Envy 5660.
SCANNER SUCKS, everything else is tip top shape.
December 12, 2016
This "All-in-One" printer sucks at scanning. I attempted to contact the seller and let them know but I have yet to receive a response. The printer is good at printing and wireless set up is easy. Scanning is just a nightmare, I should have done more research. If you don't care for scanning documents and are only interested in printing, then this is great. If you are even mildly interested in scanning, do not purchase this printer, it is time consuming to scan a couple pages and if your scanning wirelessly, the printer loses connection after scanning two documents. I want to like it, but I don't. I am just dealing with my lack of research as a result.
Awful photo printer
October 31, 2016
After using this on a number of prints I've come to the conclusion that this is a terrible photo printer. The ink is insanely expensive and will not get you very many prints, even when you buy XL cartridges! To add insult to injury, the prints are streaky! At first I thought it was an issue with the stability of the table it was on, but regardless of where it is placed, or the settings, there are obvious streaks. This would be fine if it weren't a damn PHOTO printer. I am extremely disappointed. Stay awayEdit: I switched from an ink guzzling, insanely confusing Epson printer to this great HP printer. The ink is a double edged sword for HP printers, while I was able to squeeze about 20 full-colored photo prints out of the tri-color cartridge, some of the photos were streaky, and I find it extremely wasteful that to replace just one color, you have to replace all colors. Where Epson wouldn't let you print black and white if you didnt have color installed, HP lets you print whatever regardless of your ink levels... this is a very nice change.Still it is a bit wasteful to have to discard all your colored inks because youre low on just blue-- it's a trade off.The setup for this printer may be confusing if you use Mac, just a headsup, don't expect out of the box printing. This is a pretty decent all-in-one. The scan quality and software is great, takes a little getting used to, but pretty good. its got a max dpi of 1200 for scans, great. As a printer, its just okay. Some of the photos I printed were streaky, the colors were a bit off, not so great. It prints at a relatively fast speed, so at least there's that. The monitor and touchscreen are really great, all-in-all, its decent.
print quality all good. As others have noted it constantly phones home ...
August 1, 2016
Setup, convenience, print quality all good. As others have noted it constantly phones home to HP unless you do a fair bit of customized setup to prevent this. The cartridges that come with printer are special new printer cartridges that run out fast. HP really pushes the Instant Ink program. The Instant Ink program sucked for me. You have to use special Instant Ink cartridges and let the computer report to HP. I was billed about $6 every month. I went several months with little printer use. Then I signed up for a college class and started using it quite a bit. I was billed extra for exceeding my monthly allotment. All those $6 payments? Well customer service tells me, I "could have" used the printer those months. So I cancel Instant Ink. Now the printer won't print. I buy standard ink cartridges for half the price of the printer that don't last as long as the half-full Instant Ink cartridges that won't work now. And was billed for another month of Instant Ink. I called to complain, had to get a manager, and only when he confirmed the printer had reported the removal of the Instant Ink cartridges and HP had sent me new standard cartridges did they refund the last charge.Today the printer is about a year old. Printed a few single pages fine. Then halfway through a black text page it quits and tells me there is an error. The HP utility on MS Windows shows a half full color cartridge and error for black cartridge. Screen on printer tells me to remove and reinstall the color cartridge. I try this and no help. Printer says color cartridge is bad, HP utility says black cartridge is bad. I get HP online help which shows me how to clean the cartridges and the contacts in the printer. I clean both cartridges and printer contacts as instructed. Now printer and utility show both cartridges bad. Customer service suggests I buy new cartridges (half the price of the printer again) and try that. RIGHT........This is my second HP printer that worked fine and then the warranty timer ran out :-(. Last one started slipping and wouldn't move paper through. Clean the back rollers with a damp cloth they told me. I would do that. It would work that day. Next time I had to clean them again, then finally I had to put tension on the paper and coax it through. I was looking at a Canon on sale today. Went to Canon web site and the reviews on their own web site rake it over the coals. Sigh.Days like today I want to turn back the clock and pay more up front for something that lasts and is repairable. So many products today the only fix is send it to the land fill and buy a new one. Except electronics of course. Those I have to store and take it to the special collection we have every quarter.
Great printer!
January 4, 2016
Great printer! It was easy to set up, and it is very pleasing to use. Good quality. No complaints (thus far)!Update (May, 2017): It was a nice printer while it lasted (not even a 1.5 years of lite use). It eventually stopped recognizing the printer cartridges and refused to print. Extremely frustrating!! I've had it with ink jet printers... Time to graduate to laser jets.

Worst printer I have ever had.
June 11, 2017
I have had many, many printers in my 80 years, but never one so confusing and difficult to use. When it decides to print, it does a great job. - I love the fact that you can print photos from the cellphone, but I sometimes spend an hour or two changing settings and getting help before it decides to print. Even the help sections are almost useless. When I try to get help, the printer sends me a message totally opposite of what I am asking!! I know it may be operator issues, but I have tried everything I know to get this "printer" to print.
It's probably one of the worst printers I've used due to this
March 24, 2017
This printer constantly loses wireless connectivity. It's probably one of the worst printers I've used due to this. Every time I go to print this I have to reinstall the printer completely.
Spend a little more and get a better printer
March 19, 2017
This printer has been a nightmare since I opened the box. Crashed my home network when trying to set up mobile printing. Have not been able to print consistently from my phone. Maybe a 10% success rate. Existing photos on my computer will not print from the 4x6 photo tray no matter what I do. I am tired of talking to India. I have been using HP printers for nearly 20 years. Paid $700.00 for my first Photosmart and it performed perfectly for 12 years. Next photo printer all-in-one worked pretty good too. This one not so much. You sometimes don't get what you paid for, even if it was inexpensive.
Terrible
January 4, 2017
Ordered in September and finally installed it in my office this week. Would not print as it required me to sign up for Instant Ink. After calling and talking to support (5 different people), we finally realized it was sent with "Instant Ink" cartridges. The Amazon sender had replaced the manufacturers ink cartridges. After $62 worth of cartridges, it finally worked. Sounded terrible but since it was working and I had a deadline I continued to work with it. Next day first time to print it said there was a paper jam. No paper was in the unit. Will not work at all now. eginning to think the seller sent me a refurbished unit. I do not recommend nor will I buy again.
Printer did not work
November 18, 2015
I read the reviews before I purchased this and thought it would be a good choice. I received it faster than expected, which was a plus. But from the time I plugged it in, it didn't work properly. The set up procedure wasn't working right. I installed the ink and paper, but it kept telling me I had a paper jam and/or there was something in the way of the ink cartridges. There was no paper jam and nothing blocking the ink. It just wouldn't slide properly. I ended up returning this and going to my local Best Buy and purchasing one. That was set up great and have had no n problems.
This machine has functional problems. Don't get it.
July 26, 2015
I bought this to replace an old HP photosmart printer and my primary goal was to replace it with one that would be trouble-free and not require constant hand-holding to work. Unfortunately, this one has a major glitch which is causing me to return it. After any print job, the printer will not copy a document from the glass without restarting the printer. It gets stuck on a spinning circle screen, spits out a sheet of blank paper and says "print cancelled". The printer restart is not very quick because it seems to be stuck in that spinning circle mode. In any case, who wants to restart your printer every time you want to make a copy? This is a known issue to HP without an apparent solution. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Scanning-Faxing-and-Copying/hpenvy-5660-will-not-copy-from-glass-without-restarting/m-p/5123391/highlight/false#M120559
