Five Star Reviews:

price plus effectiveness equals VALUE
December 19, 2016
I waited a few months before writing my review of this little sucker. The power of this baby is rather incredible. I purchased this for personal use in my bedroom, I have a big shark for the rest of the house. My bedroom has a couple of area rugs, and hard wood flooring. VonHaus sucker transitions from the rugs to the floor without a hitch. I LOVE this vacuum. I use it almost every day as I have a "thing" about clean floors. I purchased the extra filters but have not had to change the filter yet after these months of almost daily use. It's not the easiest thing to empty since you have to pull the head off to open the canister but at this price who could give a damn. Also, other reviewers have mentioned the loudness of the unit, but again, did you see the price!? I would rather have the power than less engine noise. If what concerns you is PRICE and EFFECTIVENESS then this is a no-brainer. Perfect extra vacuum. I would like to have one in every room of the house.
Compact, 2 in 1, very strong suction.
October 11, 2016
This vacuum is great. The price is well priced for being both a hand held vacuum and a upright vacuum. Also, I did not expect it to work as well as it does and it took me by surprise when it cleaned my area rug very well considering that it does not have spinning bristles at the bottom of the vacuum, it works great because the suction is so strong. This vaccuum is also compact and light weight so it is not a hassle to carry it up and down the stairs.
GREAT!!!

I just received these today and they all came with the mesh!! Very happy with this order!
Makes Vacuuming Fun!
January 24, 2015
The VonHaus 600W 2-in-1 Upright Stick vacuum is the best domestic appliance in my home!! After always having hand-me-down vacuums that were heavy and clunky and didn't work very well, this lightweight, compact and powerful vacuum makes cleaning enjoyable and easy. The attachments work great to do detailed cleaning. It also works very well on my jute and woven rugs. I love the option to turn it into a handheld vacuum for quick clean ups. It's only slightly larger than a broom and can be tucked away anywhere for storage. I highly recommend this vacuum!
Changed my life. For real.
January 3, 2015
I really, really hate to vacuum. Like I'd rather go to the dentist and get 6 shots of novocain and have my gums scraped than vacuum. My Oreck is large and clunky, and I hate pulling it out and dragging it along behind me. I avoid vacuuming with such fervor that sometimes I forget where my Oreck even IS. I'm not making this up.

I now have a long-haired dog that sheds, however, and even I couldn't pretend not to see the clumps of dog hair gathering in the corners and along the baseboards. I hate to vacuum so much that I actually cursed myself for not having had the foresight to pick a dog from the shelter that had a hair color that matched my floors better. But since I didn't, and since I'm not taking the dog back (because he's AWESOME), and since even my low standards for floor cleanliness were offended, I decided it was time to look for an alternate vacuum.

I wanted something light and versatile that I would actually use, so I was originally in the market for a cordless stick vac. I had nearly talked myself into spending several hundred dollars on one. Then I read a hot tip from another reviewer, who suggested always reading through the negative comments. When there is a pattern to what people are saying, there's a problem with the product.

So, I balked for the following reasons:
a) They all ran out of juice after 10 - 15ish minutes of vacuuming before the battery needed recharging. Most reviewers didn't mind this, as they "did a little each day". However, I knew I would get annoyed if it died with the job half done. If I've worked up the motivation to vacuum, I want to get it over with, not come back to it in several hours or tomorrow.

b) Many of the less expensive cordless vacs out there didn't have the suction power I was looking for. Again - if I was going to work up the motivation to vacuum, I wanted something that actually picked up grit/dust/dirt or whatever else is on my floor as well as the dog hair. Otherwise what's the point?? I'd be better off lugging out the Oreck.

c) Many of the vacs seemed to encounter the same issue after about a year of ownership/right after the warranty ran out. From teeny plastic parts that broke and rendered the whole vac inoperable to plastic telescoping handles breaking off to batteries just wearing out, most of the vacs had some kind of consistent issue after about a year of use. Call me cheap if you want, but if I'm dropping $300 - $400 on a cordless vac, that thing better be immortal.

d) I have ZERO patience for customer apathy, which is what I secretly call customer "service" departments that don't even pretend to care. If I'm going to spend $300 - $400 bucks on a vacuum and something goes wrong, you better be able to wave a magic wand and make it better, pronto. My most expensive top candidate had some real horror stories attached.

SO - I changed my mind and decided a cord was acceptable after all, since being able to vac for as long as I wanted and suction power were important to me.

This vacuum is a great little product. I've only owned it for almost two weeks, and I think I've used it more than I have used my Oreck in the past 6 months. Seriously. My floors look so clean that when my mother dropped by she didn't even criticize. I felt like something was missing because we didn't have an argument about unsolicited feedback.

It arrived on time and undamaged. It took me maybe 60 seconds to put together - super easy and intuitive to set up, although directions are included. It does mention a floor brush in the literature, and mine did not come with one (I didn't expect it to, so I was surprised to see it mentioned). The floor attachment is clearly for hardwood/tile.

I'll admit to having a Tim Allen primal-grunting-like-an-ape moment when I turned it on. Even though I'd been expecting it from the reviews, I still didn't think such a small, light vac would be so powerful. It's like a jet engine on a stick. OK, I'm exaggerating, but just a little bit. I thought of a jet engine because of the sound; as other reviewers have pointed out, this vac is loud. Actually, I honestly don't think it's any louder than a regular vac, it's just higher-pitched (like a jet engine!). I wouldn't use it in the same room while someone is watching TV, for example, but another room would be fine. Not quite loud enough to upset the dog or coax teenaged daughters out of bed at 12:30 in the afternoon, but you likely won't hear the phone ring.

Random FYI's:
This vac is LIGHT. I have some major lower-back issues, and this is no problem at all for me to handle.
It stands on its own, so you can park it without fear it will tip over.
There is a place to wind the cord for storage (not retractable, it winds externally).
The telescoping handle is easy to extend with one hand (thumb).
The telescoping handle also detaches completely if you press a button on the side.
Dust cup is easy to empty without making a mess and has a decent-sized capacity. The first time I used it I emptied it 3 - 4 times (I did the whole house, and there was a LOT of dog hair); now I can do pretty much the whole house and only empty once.
As another reviewer noted, it does clean up to the baseboards very well; however, if you're going after grit vs. hair you will want to attack it head on vs.parallel to the baseboards.

This vac is for hardwood floors/tile. My entire house is hardwood floors with a couple-three area rugs and entrance mats/bathroom mats. It works well enough on the carpets that I can easily justify leaving my Oreck wherever the heck I've currently hidden it for now, but eventually I'll break down and pull it out to genuinely clean them with the beater brushes. Maybe.

I keep forgetting this isn't a full sized vacuum. This picks up cereal, dried leaves, etc., but I may need to step on them first to crunch them up small enough so that the intake doesn't get clogged. My daughter used this in her room (first time her room has seen a vac in years, I might add) and clogged up the floor attachment tube with popped popcorn. When I next used it, I was wondering if the jet power was in my imagination until I discovered the problem and unclogged the floor attachment and intake on the main unit, which I'm mentioning because it was an easy task.

I'm kind of "meh" about the attachments. I haven't really found a use for the hose, and I've kept the floor attachment on when I do the stairs. There is a brush on the crevice tool that extends at an angle which makes it convenient to use only when you hold the vac by the built-in handle. It doesn't lock into place, so it keeps collapsing, which is annoying. It's also pretty small, so I don't use it much. I will say that it is the perfect size to vacuum blinds, however, and if you don't try to go back-and-forth it doesn't collapse. My other annoyance is that I keep stepping on the cord; I wish there was a little "c" shaped clamp (like on the plug) that would secure it to the handle to keep the cord out of the way. I haven't used the furniture brush attachment just yet (c'mon, I just started to vacuum the floors regularly. If I did the furniture too my husband might start thinking I'm June Cleaver, which would piss me off).

All in all I'm delighted with this vacuum. It does exactly what I wanted and the price is right. That said, I've only owned it for a few weeks - if my opinion changes I'll definitely update. But for now it's changed my life, because I'd given up on clean floors, and just because I hate to vacuum doesn't mean I like dirty floors. I really love the feeling of thinking, "ugh, the stairs need to be vacuumed again"... and then thinking, "oh well OK then I'll do it now" instead of, "I wonder if the dentist can fit me in?". Woo hoo!

Hi folks, just an update nearly 2 years later: I still love this vac, and it still works as well as the day I bought it. I have a much better relationship with my Oreck as well, since now I only need to pull it out for "heavy-duty" and carpet cleaning. It happens... occasionally.

I'm going to buy another for my husband, who keeps swiping mine to take to his office to vac his very low-nap carpet (the kind that's almost like cement on the floor. This doesn't work so well on other carpets). I'm buying it mainly to spare him my raised-eyebrow-you-know-this-also-works-at-home-honey-you-should-try-it look from me. Merry Christmas, my love.

Love it
August 6, 2017
Sleek and well designed. I purchased this for a narrow space in my kitchen. The color is a matte gunmetal color with silver accents. I did have a brief tussle when putting to put the lid on but got it on the forth try. I love it's depth which allows larger items to be disposed of without trouble compared to the round trash can that this replaced. I have no problem with it moving around when I use the pedal to raise the lid as some have reported. I really like the quiet close feature. I use generic 13 gallon trash bags with ties and they fit perfectly. A note to those who order white.. . That was my first color choice but I returned it because it did looked more like an dingy white or ivory color when I placed it next to my white appliances.
but this garbage can is above and beyond great
October 22, 2016
Weird to say, but this garbage can is above and beyond great. It's been a workhorse (had it for two years now) that hasn't broken or given up the ghost despite two kids under five constantly using the foot and it surviving a major move to a new city. I don't know if this thing will quit, but if it ever does, you can count on me replacing it with the same can again! It was an odd item for me to order online, but I got tired of the ones from walmart barely making it 6 months before breaking, and also being ugly. This one is sleek, slim, and fits great at the end of our Kitchen counter. The only negative is that it seems to "drift" from its spot due to everyone using the foot opener. But I think that would happen with any foot-operated trash can that doesn't weigh a ton.
Lamborghini of trash cans
July 2, 2016
This is probably the Lamborghini of trash cans. Super high quality mechanisms and plastic. Has two wheels behind it so that you can drag it easily if you need to. Just beautiful. The only thing you need to be careful about is the pedal mechanism does not work ideally when put on a carpet surface. I bought this as a kitchen trash can and I have carpet surface beginning just next to my kitchen counter where I placed this and the whole can bends forward a little when you step on the pedal - less so when the can is full. This didn't turn out to be a big problem but good to know before purchasing.
Stops our dogs!
March 10, 2016
This thing is pretty legit. My dogs always dig in the trash while I am at work. Today we had old leftovers in the trash, and when we can home the lid was still locked even though those dogs tried as hard as they could to get to the source of the smell (they trimmed the liner of the trash bag pretty good!). Great product!
Perfect trash can for a small living space
January 3, 2015
I was very reluctant paying $40 for a plastic trash can, but with the impeccable reviews, I knew I was making a good decision. I've had mine for one month now and it's been great. The step to open the lid is as reliable as it was the first day I used it and the lid closes super quietly. It's a perfect trash can for those who live in a small space. The Glad tall kitchen bags (13 gallon) fit this trash can perfectly. I am very happy with my purchase.
Space saving workhorse
October 26, 2011
Truth be told, what I truly desire in the deepest corner of my heart is SimpleHuman's stainless steel butterfly step trash can, but I just could not justify (to my bank account) spending $160 on a trash can. Alas, I went with the plastic slim step-child, and although it lacks the diva flair of the butterfly, it's a sturdy little workhorse that provides maximum capacity in a very slim size. I have a galley kitchen with a narrow floor to ceiling window at one end in lieu of a wall. It provides nice lighting but isn't a good place for the garbage can, so I needed something that can fit under a sink cabinet or sit against the end of the counters and still be narrow enough not to block the entry way too much. This garbage can fits the bill nicely. The stepping mechanism feels sturdy even when the can is empty, with no wobble to it, and the top stays open if you lift it up by hand to 90 degrees, which is nice when I'm dumping scraps off of the counter into the can. The mouth of it is fairly wide and square, so larger items are easily disposed (fits gallon milk containers easily). It shuts slowly and quietly, no splattering, and seals nicely. The wheels make it easy to move it around. Locking feature is a nice touch to deter small children and pets from getting into the trash. I use regular trash liners (Glad ForceFlex Tall Kitchen 13 Gallon Trash Bag with drawstrings) rather than the SimpleHuman specific ones, and the drawstring part stretches just enough to slip over the lip of the can and the bag fits very snugly around the rim so that you don't get debris accidentally falling outside of the trash bag.I imagine this little workhorse will remain in our kitchen for a long time, even if we move to a bigger place. Unless I win the lottery and can afford the stainless steel butterfly step can.

Awesome lamp
May 3, 2017
Love this lamp. It is perfect for behind my recliner. There's just one thing, and it's not a bad thing, but after I got it all put together, i thought there was a part missing, the little part that holds the white part down. well, it wasn't missing, it was actually screwed on there, so when you get one, unscrew it and put the lampshade part on :) mine was purely operator error :)
Great for puppies
February 7, 2017
Other reviews have been hard on this product related to the power cord situation... but honestly that is this lamp's best feature!!!! We foster for animal rescue organizations and so we are consistantly looking for ways to improve our pet safety. Cords are typically the greatest challenge in this endeavor. Finally! Finally we can have a floor lamp and not be concerned about the pups getting at the cord!!!! Consider this product for increased pet and child safety.
Perfect for the playas
January 7, 2017
Very nice lamp, for the price is it well beyond my expectations. Easy to assemble, the quality of the metal is very good. I've bought similar lamps from home depot and wal mart that I could easily bend. Granted I'm a beast of a man, but this metal is much more rigid than the usual up right lamp. The recommended bulb gives a nice soft glow, perfect to set the mood for the ladies. The mood effect can be used on men too for the honies out there.

One nice touch is that it includes clips to secure the wire to keep my pad nice and organized, an added bonus of not tripping over the wires and spilling my high class gas station wine on a lady's top. Too bad, now she's gotta use my washing machine, also purchased on amazon.
A bargain
July 21, 2016
The heavy base is my favorite feature. The last lamp I got elsewhere used to fall at the lightest touch. My apologies to whomever carried it home for me. Assembly is what you expect from Ikea but I'll have to get used to power cords outside the pipe. For the ease of assembly, it's a tiny price to pay. The switch is also on the cable, which works for me I can easily reach it.
Excellent, heavy duty, beyond worth the price.
March 18, 2015
Not sure what everyone here is complaining about. I absolutely love this lamp. It was less than 20 bucks and is heavier and sturdier than anything you'll find in Target or Walmart. A pleasant surprise. If you're looking for something elegant or super fancy then spend the extra money somewhere else. This thing is practical and exceeds expectations. I also love how thick the metal is on the entire frame. Solid, heavy base to prevent tipping. And unless you're 6 feet or taller you're not going to "stare at the bulb". Don't be cheap AND tall, you can only pick one struggle.

Great little vac
May 1, 2017
I absolutely love this vacuum. It's very lightweight which is what I want since I obsessively vacuum my apartment daily and wanted the ability to pick it up and move it without any struggle. The attachments are useful as well, especially the brush. I have two cats and the brush works well to pick up cat hair. For its size, I think it's pretty powerful on wood/laminate floors and on small rugs. I have no carpet so I can't say how powerful it would be and probably wouldn't recommend it anyway as the intake area is relatively small compared to regular sized vacs. I haven't been finding it very easy to find a replacement filter and this is the first bagless vac I've owned, and I'm not sure I enjoy the bagless feature. That's probably the only thing I would change as I vacuum so often, the cleaning process is a bit of a pain. I do enjoy the fact that it comes apart and turns into a handheld vac while still maintaining the power.
Not a complete loss
February 12, 2017
I moved into a fully carpeted apartment and the first item on my shopping list was a vacuum. Well maybe the second, because the first thing I purchased was a fairly expensive carpet cleaner and thus wanted to skimp on a vacuum. I thought this VonHaus would be perfect for my needs and budget. A couple months later, I now can recommend this is not a good vacuum for large carpeted spaces. The suction is fairly weak and you will receive a full body work out if you attempt to vacuum anything larger than a 4x6 area rug (and could possibly still be unhappy with the results). However, this vacuum is excellent on tiled or non-carpeted spaces. I use it in my kitchen in lieu of sweeping, and it works like a charm. The attachments that come with this convertible vacuum are also pretty nifty.
Useful and cheap, some limitations
September 4, 2016
This is a little vacuum is not to bad for its size and price. However, there are some things to note. First off, many of the reviews talk about its powerful suction. It is true that it has good suction. However, that is all that it uses. There is no brush or bristles to help scoop up debris and there is only a small hole that dirt can go up. While this is just fine for minor dirt on small carpeted areas and hard surface floors, it is not really useful against anything like ground in dirt or pet hair. That being said, it is still a decent vacuum. What I love most about it is that it is small and compact, can do the minor job that is needed and can be comfortably used by an adult and a child. The handle will extend up high enough for an average adult but also goes down to a height that is easily usable for a child. Mine is 9 and really begs to us it. It is also extremely light. This is both really nice and somewhat of a negative. While it is super easy to maneuver, I sometimes wish the bottom had a little more weight to get it closer to the ground for dirt at the edge of my rug. Overall, I do like it especially for the price which was just under $50 when I purchased it.
Not a full sized replacement, excellent for kids.
January 24, 2016
I'm pretty amazed by the amount of power this thing has. If you're not holding onto this when it turns on it will roll over the motor has so much torque. It is very loud. Maybe 2 or 3 times louder than my upright. It has no roller bar and I hear the attachment one is worthless. This is a huge drawback as far as its ability to clean carpets. With our the roller this can't pick up most animal hair effectively. The dust bin is better than some other small vacuums I've had, but still lacks a lot compared to an upright, mainly in the integrated filter which you pretry much have to clean off by hand every. The good thing is the bin (so far) stays in place, which I've had problems with on ither vacuums. I also have an issue with the fact that the attachments don't lock in, this means that the vacuum head comes off occasionally, comes off, especially when the kids are using it.

Which brings me to the final point, this thing is the best real kid vacuum we've had. It's very light and the handle is the right length for little ones. Our three year old twins love it, and can use it pretty well. The little quirks don't outweight the pros for a kids vaccum. They can very effectively vacuum a hard floor and can do a good maintenance clean on the carpet.
Works okay, but it's a little fragile.
June 13, 2015
I have a Chocolate lab and a Husky that like to shed their coats one after the other, an African Grey that likes to pelt anyone passing by with his food, and a Cockatiel that likes to keep his house very clean by throwing his seed husks and feathers outside of his house. The vacuum I currently have is WAY too heavy and NOISY for comfortable daily use so I needed to find something light for everyday hair tumbleweed, feather, and pellet maintenance in between the giant jet engine vacuum days.

This vacuum works very well for picking up dog hair and bird feathers from ceramic tile floors and low pile carpet. It did not work as well for the shaggier area rug in the living room. It does pick up pellets from the floor but if they are bigger than a cheerio, you have to pick it up with the hand vacuum. It absolutely does NOT work for vacuuming the dog beds which is something that I do with the giant vacuum when I use it. As for the noise level, it will bother someone watching TV in the same room you are vacuuming but should not bother anyone from the next room over. Overall, it's not perfect and it will not replace a full sized vacuum but it does make maintenance days easier. Five stars for the product itself.

I'm docking a star because the gray handle broke off the first day of use. My dad and brother managed to fix it using a drill and two screws but that should NOT have happened with a brand new product.

Once you attach the lid its amazing
April 10, 2017
Very simple design with only two parts- however attaching the lid to the base is one of the hardest things I have ever done.I watched multiple videos online and eventually had to ask my next door neighbor for help after trying for almost an hour. Once the lid is clicked into the base though it really is dog proof!I've come home to the trashcan in the middle of the room by the ripped shreds of exposed bags you can tell my dog was giving it his best shot to open this!
Tight Lid Fight
March 4, 2017
Great trash can once you get the lid attached. I chose this line because Simplehuman has a good rep. The quality is good. Holds a 13 gallon trash bag with ease. The only problem was getting the lid to snap on. It took two people with a lot of force to finally get the lid to snap in place. I recommend this trash can, it is reasonably priced, but be prepared to have an issue with attaching the lid. I even watched the Youtube video which shows you how to attach the lid for this trash can. That should be a clue that the lid is hard to attach that someone had to make a Youtube how to video for this trash can. I hope I never have to remove the lid.
Soft plastic, but great customer service!
July 15, 2016
Good can until it breaks. Ours lasted 4 years. The hinge on the back is made of plastic and wears away over time. When the slot gets too big, the lid falls off whenever you try to open it. I don't see an obvious way to repair it. 3 stars.Edit: SimpleHuman replaced the lid under warranty. Easy and fast! Upgraded to 4 stars.
Absolutely pet proof and virtually human proof as well but it can be fixed to open easily
March 29, 2016
This trash can is just the right size for where I needed and I think that it would be absolutely pet proof. Unfortunately, it is also virtually human proof unless you have very strong hands and no fingernails. It would be impossible to open for anyone with arthritis. Since I don't need the pet proof feature, I took out the screws on the inside of the lid and removed the inner part of the locking mechanism. Now the silver part of the mechanism moves freely and will still shut the lid tight but you can open it easily and it no longer shreds the front of the bio-bag liner. Now it is the perfect can to hold the organics until garbage pickup day.
Great for recycling!
December 30, 2015
Overall: It's a good quality, well-made trash can. We've been using this can as our indoor recycling bin, Obviously, we picked the blue for the recycling and we haven't had any confusion from visitors so it works out great. It works very well for recycling, we do use a bag to keep the inside of the can clean, but we toss that when it get dirty.Made of durable plastic with a sleek design; this trash can is a great product. I appreciate the locking lid design that holds up to a growing toddler! I also love that it streamlined to fit into small spaces and just an overall great size for the kitchen. It has good foot pedal mechanism. Give it a light tap and it opens and softly closes giving you enough time to toss something in and keep going. Hold down the foot pedal and it will stay open until you manually shut it. I've read other reviews that said that the lid after a while just pops off the mechanism and the foot pedal stops working, this is not the case for us. We haven't had any problems with the lid detaching, and I have checked out the area when it attaches and the plastic and metal rod seem very solid. I am not worried and I think that might be a flaw that occurred in the manufacturing that has since been resolved. My only complaint is that the wheels have no stoppers. Often the can "migrates" backwards to the wall. When it gets pushed back it starts to scuff the walls (probably because we have cheap paint). It's only a minor issue and, for the most part, we keep it in place. We use this product in combination with:simplehuman Slim Plastic Step Trash Can, Grey Plastic, 40 L / 10.6 Gal - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004L9L3KW?redirect=true&ref_=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_137Recycle & Trash vinyl lettering decal home decor wall sticker art saying (White, 6x6) - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NQ764H2?redirect=true&ref_=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_120
Great for Recycling!
December 5, 2015
I bought this to use as a recycling bin near my garbage can (the large black version of this). So far it is working great for that purpose and is really the perfect size for household recycling.Being that it is a smaller can with wheels means that it is moved around quite a bit, so I feel like I am constantly having to put it back in place, Also, the hinge prevents the bag from going over the lip in the back. You are able to go over enough and so far the bag hasn't fallen down, but it seems like they should give a bit more edge there.Lastly, I was disappointed that this didn't come with any starter bags. I thought all of the simplehuman cans came with a couple bags. Since the listing doesn't specify this, I am not reducing any stars, but a heads up that there are no bags at all. I chose their blue bag line to go with the whole recycling theme.

These are great, purchased some a while back but they no longer make the silver version so went with the black color.
Overall design has stayed the same but they did seem to clean up some of the cheap feel to the switch. Wish the cord was as long as before but doesn't take away from the actual function.
As Expected for its Price
March 1, 2017
I wish the shade were a light glass instead of light plastic. The base is nice and heavy. I don't mind the cord, as my lamp is tucked away in the corner. If the build quality were a hair better it would be a 5-star rating. But what more can we expect for a lamp under 20 bucks?
I am happy with my purchase
August 15, 2016
I am happy with my purchase. It was very easy to put together. The only thing I didn't like was the two little tabs that came with it that is on the pole. They are meant to hold the cord close to the body of the lamp. I suppose if I didn't have a small child it wouldn't be a problem, but I tried it and gave it a small tug and they came flying off. It's the kind of thing that a toddle would stick in their mouth. So I threw them out. No big deal. I just wish they made it to stick a little better. Also I thought this was flexible. I used to have another lamp just like this but by a different vendor that would bend in any direction you wanted. I assumed the stand was bendable but it's not. So heads up there. Overall I am happy.
Good quality.
June 27, 2015
It looks really nice, the construction seems sturdy enough and durable. My only complain is that the cable is a little short and the brackets that snap the cable to the tube are too few, not enough for the cable to be held in place correctly.
The base is big and heavy enough to support the whole lamp and remain in place.

I'm using GE LED lightbulb 40W (they recommend no more than 500 lumens to avoid the plastic screen get burnt).

If you have the chance to get it directly from Ikea, you'll save a few bucks and you'll get a LED lightbulb included, Ikea branded I ended up replacing it to GE's as well because it was too dim.
Works nice but cord is unsightly.
February 22, 2015
The lamp works well and it really lights up the whole room. It was extremely easy to put together-- simply screwing the poles together and attaching the base. It does not lean and the base is heavy enough for it to not tip over. It does not come with a light bulb, but to my knowledge, you can use a standard bulb. The lampshade is made of a hard, semi-opaque plastic.

The lamp loses a star because the cord is unsightly. It starts at the shade and continues down to the base on the outside of the pole. It comes with clips to keep it attached to the pole but if the cord has some slack, it ends up looking worse. The cord does have a switch to make it easy to use. Other similar lamps have the cord on the inside of the poles and it comes out of the bottom hiding the cord and preventing tripping over it.

Vacuum wannabe.....
December 18, 2016
I bought this because I only have hardwood floors, and my place is pretty small. Calling this a vacuum is a bit generous. For one, the head doesn't have a brush, so it doesn't pull dirt into it like a vacuum, and there's only a small opening so the suction really only occurs where the opening is, not along the whole head. What this really is, is a handheld vacuum on a stick.

Now, if you've ever thought, "I wish my ****buster was on a stick", you'll love it, and I use my regularly because it's pretty good. My only real complaint is that inside the canister the hole that all the dirt enters through is REALLY small and there's a flap covering it which further impedes objects getting through. The hole is about the size of a quarter, so if you like to suck up stray legos or the pieces of food your kids like to decorate the floor with, you'll likely find them wedged inside the head.

On the plus side it's SUPER light, the handle is telescopic, easy to empty, and has a pretty long cord.
Was amazing while it lasted
April 10, 2016
When I first got this, I was thrilled with it. We only have tile flooring and for that, it has excellent suction power, picking up even stubborn large chunks of dirt. Though I hate a cord on anything, this cord is long enough to only annoy me slightly when having to move from room to room. It is lightweight and I find it easy to maneuver. The handheld vac, which i really wanted too, is not a great tool. You have to add an attachment to have a logical "suck" nozzle and it seems clunky to me so we almost never use it though it was one of the key perks of purchasing this. I say I was thrilled with it because after 6 months of using it regularly, the handle no longer locks into place. When I try to turn the vacuum, only the handle turns making it very difficult to do anything but go straight. The motor is still great and it vacuums really well but I don't think it is worth the frustration of a spinning handle and having no directional control. We tried numerous ways to fix it but nothing works. So excellent quality vacuum motor but poor construction. I guess you just have to decide if $50 is too much for a 6 month vacuum cleaner.
So so....not great, not awful
October 2, 2015
I bought it to use around the house--we have concrete floors throughout the house, and we have a regular vacuum, but it's so bulky. I wanted something that was easy to whip out and clean easily with, while being able to maneuver around the kitchen table/chairs easily. At first I was kind of ehhh about the width of the 'mouth'/sucking up area, but it works out for the prior stated reason..maneuverability.

Also, the handle telescopes out to different lengths so you can adjust it based on your comfort...and also for storing purposes, although it doesn't take much room even when all the way extended.

UPDATE 6 weeks later....

So one thing I am updating my review about is the sucking power. I have decided this thing is more loud than anything, and loud does not equal great sucking power. The best this thing does at vacuuming up is the cat hair tumbleweeds that occur from my 3 long haired cats. Other than that, I am hard pressed to get much sucked up, even when you roll right over the junk on the floor. Perhaps this is better for carpeted floors. One thing that I have wondered, is if the main attachment that it's shown in the picture with, if it had the little vacuum roller that spins, like a real vacuum does, I think it would be a better performer, however, I realize that's not possible with a set up like this one.

Today, I tried out the little attachments for the first time, using it as a handheld, thinking that a narrower attachment might do better...I used the little upholstery brush, that is about 4-5 inches wide. I was trying to suck up cat litter that was on the floor...I was just basically pushing it around. I then put on the narrow, 1x1" nozzle attachment, and it sucked just fine. So I would say this vacuum is good for crevices, perhaps in your car, if you can get the cord to reach, or cleaning up light dust and cat hair in between real vacuumings.

I guess you get your money's worth, although I have nothing to compare it to (I paid $44.99 at the time), I expected a bit more, but I don't feel it's worth returning. I would however, not buy this again...I would probably wait, and pay a little more.
It sure sucks!
September 8, 2015
UPDATE: I bought this almost exactly a year ago, and yesterday while I was using it the dust container cracked! I'm so upset! I've used it once a week, so about 52 times. I tried taping the container together, but the crack makes it impossible for the attachments to stay attached so I can't really use it anymore. Noooooooooooooooooo!!! This vacuum was the best. RIP little orange VonHaus. -2 stars for breaking just short of the 1 yr mark. :(

ORIGINAL REVIEW: This little vacuum is awesome! Its a little loud, but has some serious suction, so much so that you might need someone to stand on your area rugs while you use it. It sucked my hallway runner right up! Great for kitty litter and HAIR (human and cat alike!) Seriously, the amount of hair in this thing after a single use is mind boggling. After reading some of the other reviews I was worried it wouldn't work on rugs, but it works great!
Scratches Wood Flooring
June 26, 2015
The positives: This is a nifty and powerful little vacuum and I really wish it would have worked for me. I love the fact that it is extremely lightweight and can even be hung on a hook. You can also use as a hand vac, but I found it a little cumbersome having to remove the cord to detach the long handle. The micro vacuum attachment kit does fit this.

The negatives: This vacuum DOES NOT work for hardwood floors. This vacuum repeatedly scratched my new engineered woven bamboo flooring (considered 25% harder than red oak). It did more damage in one minute that my five year old still hasn't accomplished. The suction is very strong for this little vacuum and any piece of dirt or grain that does not get sucked up stays underneath the plastic housing and will drag and gouge across the flooring. Some of the scratches were severe enough where I could feel the indentation with my fingernail.

I really wanted this vacuum to work. I tried applying felt pads underneath but they didn't stick. I also contacted the manufacter to see if they could resolve the issue, but they were not interested and told me to just return to amazon.

this trash can is just fine. However
July 5, 2017
As far as looks, this trash can is just fine. However, assembly was a pain. I had to find a youtube video in order to figure out how to attach the lid. It has a picture under the lid, which doesn't help at all. You have to insert the metal hook in first and then close the lid and snap each side into place. The picture shows the lid open, but that lid will never go into place if it isn't closed. Other reviews suggested turning it upside down, but I didn't find that necessary. After I finally got the lid into place, I was disappointed that the lid didn't fully close. It is just an inch or two slightly open. Yes, I checked that everything was assembled correctly. There is no fixing it. That gap is enough to allow odors to escape and looking at it drives me crazy. I'm not sure if I just received a defective lid or if that's how they all come. For the price, I'm disappointed and wish I had just gone to a local store and purchased another one.
Needs instructions.
May 30, 2017
There are no instructions on the lid and I am unclear on how to attach the lid. It is not obvious how to install this. I am an interior designer and can typically figure this out. I will need to go online to check on this when I get a chance. It is appropriate for a cottage with a very small space for the trash can and is a nice size.
It's ok
May 6, 2017
First, thanks to all the reviewers who told me how to get the lid on. I agree the lid should have been assembled. I am sending them an email when I am done with this. It also does not include even one bag. I have a Simplehuman stainless so I was ok with getting another, but I did buy it in store. The lid was a bear to get on. It's slim so it's nice.
Got to keep my dog out of the trash. ...
May 4, 2017
Got to keep my dog out of the trash. She is a border collie and I kid you not the turd has figured out how to open it on occasion. It does seem to deter her less though since she has to work harder, as she used to get in every time I left her out but now it has only happened a few times. I wish they made a standard width one as we go through a lot of trash.
Quick solution to snap on the lid!
January 8, 2017
To put on the lid fast, you MUST turn it upside down and hold the can at a 40 degree angle with the lid flat to the floor. Push down (one side at a time) until you here it snap on one side, then snap on the other. It will be extremely difficult to put on the lid any other way. DO NOT FORGET to hook the center piece first before you flip it over.It honestly doesn't save much space for me; I live in an apartment with very little floor space in the kitchen so mine went into a corner in the dining room. The trash can is very front heavy due to the pedal. It'll lean forward when you step on it and not stay grounded in the back. I'm a little bit concerned it'll flip over one day but it hasn't yet.I use generic 13 gallon trash bags from walmart with no problems. No need to buy brand specific bags. The lid doesn't slam down when closing. It's a very slow and soft close.
The lock clicks TWICE
July 10, 2016
I needed a garbage can to prevent my dog from eating our trash every day. She's old and doesn't care anymore so all that training went out the window, we needed a brute force way to prevent her from getting it and putting the trash can on the counter every day before work wasn't cutting it.This works great! Just be aware that the lock is TIGHT. it clicks TWICE. If you click it once, it appears to be locked but it can still be pried open pretty easily. I usually have to push my knee against the lock and push against the wall to get it to lock since the garbage can itself is so light. If you're getting this for the same reason as me, pay attention to that. I didn't and my dog wound up getting at some chicken bones in the trash can and thank god she's okay. Lesson learned!

I shoulda paid another 3 -4 bucks and got a lamp with the cord inside.
I didnt think it would bother me as much as it currently does
Just fair stuff
July 7, 2017
This lamp looked not very quality as soon as I got it. It's a fair metal material and the lamp shades are a really thin plastic. The lamp was easy to build because it came with too much cord for the top portion of the lamp so I had to stuff the cord inside the lamp to screw the top part of the lamp together. Also the switches to turn on the lamp are the ones you twist and they aren't good quality either. I would not recommend this lamp if you want something that is a little nicer quality. It's not too expensive but I would look around for better lamps in this price range or buy something a little more expensive. I bought it because I wanted an all black lamp to match my room but I wouldn't purchase this again.
More than worth the price - provided i can get the rest of the parts that are missing.
October 16, 2016
Looks just like the picture. For the price it's a lot better than I thought it would be. About the only thing that impacted my thoughts is the fact that a few of the parts were missing from the product's box. I'm not going to rant and rave, and slam Amazon for this wrong or that missing, or whatever. Missing parts happen, Amazon is hardly to blame as I'm sure they didn't leave things out purposefully. I'm sure they will make more than satisfactory amends. The lamp is worth the price, and I won't hesitate to suggest it to anyone looking for a very low priced floor lamp
Dear IKEA, I hope you will get my message with my lesson attached ;)
August 3, 2016
Dear Ikea, After re-designing by myself in about 45 minutes your assaulting design, I would rate it about five *****. Folks, check out (attachments) the historical moments, saved by my photo-camera;))) IKEA, you assumed that it's going to be too much of a luxury for "ignorant" Americans to have the cord inside the tube/pole? Dear IKEA, no doubt that this design of hanging wire over the lamp pole, was intentional and assaulting !!! In Europe, they would crucify your designers on this lamp;))) the quality of the product itself is not bad though: 1. For this cute, thin pole, the metal is super strong ( I know it, because I drilled it ) 2. The base-disk is very steady - 35 lb, though it's made of hard plastic, undefined, durable and neat. 3. For the price, I can accept a very cheap plastic vase, because it's so flexible; if the lamp heats the floor, it will survive the impact, and absorb it. However, I will never understand the design with hanging out electric cord. IKEA, I gave you three stars only for the quality construction and its durability, matching the price range!
Does the Job
January 18, 2016
The lamp provides a nice amount of light to my room and is aesthetically pleasing; however, it seems as though It was sent without the piece that fastens the shade to the rest of the lamp. Additionally, the cord for the lamp is completely visible. Usually lamps run their cords through the piping, but this one is entirely external.

More work then it is worth
May 30, 2017
Does not pick up much of anything. We got this to vacuum our hardwood floor around where our toddler eats and it picks up very little before we have to clean out the filter. Our child is not that messy the machine just clogs easily. Also the head falls off easily and we are constantly battling to reattach it.
Super cheaply made plastic parts. Very flimsy wheels. Vacuum head will scratch floors.
May 21, 2017
Very cheaply made plastic bottom portion that has the "wheels" and suction head. The bottom "working end" portion of this vacuum is very cheap plastic. Wheels did not look like they would hold up at all. The plastic suction head just scrapes on the floor. If you have wood floors, this WILL scratch them badly. Returned for refund and bought something better.
Won't Replace Larger Vacuums
April 23, 2017
This is a handheld on a stick. I thought I would be able to replace my full sized vacuum for my small apartment, but the VonHaus just doesn't have enough suction to clean well. It did not pick up a popcorn seed that was on the floor, and was not able to manage a small dried out leaf.I had high hopes when I bought it, but have been disappointed with the performance.
Sent it back - not good for our purposes.
February 11, 2017
This will work very well for some. It DOES have great suction. It's the only thing that will get the dirt out of the crevices of my welcome mat.

However, it does not work well on carpet. I used it to vacuum my daughter's room, then went over it with a different bagless vac and picked up tons of dust.

I returned it, though, because the one we received had a high-pitched, loud motor. I couldn't stand it - but I'm sensitive to sound. Also, our man vac is a Miele which is very quiet. Perhaps I'm spoiled. But my hoover cordless doesn't make such a squeal.
Doesn't suck (not good for a vacuum cleaner)
August 30, 2016
I really wanted to like this, especially after someone said it changed their life. So much so, in fact, that I kept it long past the return date even though I knew I didn't like it. It's loud, it's poorly designed and it has very little suction. For get it on carpets. It's also no more convenient than any other vacuum. I wouldn't mind the crappy design (cheap hose attachment and the heads just pop off the bottom for other attachments) if it actually WORKED. It doesn't. I mean, it does to a degree, but not enough to actually clean anything besides maybe a bit of fine dirt. It won't suck up anything heavier than coffee grounds and even those don't get lifted entirely. Animal hair on carpets? Pffft, forget it, it won't work, even with the (separately purchased) carpet attachment. I'm really mad at myself for not returning this right away. Save your money.

I recently purchased a Shark Cordless and I really like it. It picks stuff up, including pet hair on carpets. Plus, it's cordless with any easy charge stand. Worth the extra $50.

March 25, 2017
This is an okay trash can. It works as it is suppose to but you would think since it has lid lock it would also have a wheel lock. It moves everything you open it. And if you are thinking just push it up against a wall. nope that doesn't really work because you need space between it and the wall in order open the lid. It's works but it could use some improvements and for $40 i expected a little more.
Disappointed
November 5, 2016
I REALLY wanted to give this product 5 stars. I think it is well designed and looks great. I love the slow close lid. However, the main reason we got it was because it has a locking lid (we were hoping to use it to keep our curious toddler out) and the lid is nearly impossible to lock/unlock. I find myself having to bend down and use both hands and a lot of pressure to get it locked and then even more work to get it unlocked. I'm not sure if we got a faulty product or if this is just the way it is but I'm disappointed.
Cheap, damaged and not effecient
October 3, 2016
This trash can is very light and feels very cheap. The silver locking mechanism on the lid was scratched and damaged when I opened the box. When the lid closes on it's own, it doesn't close all the way down securely. I bought this trash can to keep my dog out of the trash. She can still nose the top open unless we use the locking mechanism. That is not convenient, and the mechanism is clumsy and hard to slide, even with two hands. I would not recommend this product.I am keeping this product because honestly I don't have the box anymore and don't feel like going through the hassle of returning it.
Not that good a can
May 22, 2016
I wish I hadn't thrown the shipping box out or I'd be returning this can.Its unstable when opening, the plastic exterior became dirty looking within a day and requires sometimes 2x a day wiping down even though it sees very light use. I didn't notice until I bought this that there are wheels on the back, why have them on such a small can? Never needed wheels on any of the other kitchen trash cans I've had over the past 4 decades. This can was supposed to replace an open topped RubberMaid that I bought 6 months ago. I think this can will go out in the garage and the $12 RubberMaid is coming back to the kitchen. Its black plastic as well but doesn't get that whitish film on it like the SimpleHuman can does.
I tend to consider myself fairly intelligent, but when I first got this thing
April 12, 2015
The pet proof latch works very well, keeping out a grubby poodle! And her owner too. I tend to consider myself fairly intelligent, but when I first got this thing, I couldn't figure out how to open it. There's a helpful sign right by the latch showing fingers on the latch and a little bit of a direction, but I that must mean for closing, not opening. Guess where the instructions were? Inside the latched container. After a few minutes I finally figured out that it's sort of a hook that needs to be angled a little to unhook from the front of the can. OK fine, I got it open. Next up is the lovely way that the lid closes down slowly. My first reaction was, "Cool!" However in practicality, when I bought the thing for the purpose of the pet latch, that means I now have to wait for it and watch it close slowly before I can reach down to latch the pet lock. That's kind of irritating. Then come to find that the foot lever doesn't operate if the pet lock is on. I mean I understand how it's designed that way, but it's just kind of contrary. So I've been finding myself using the handy dandy foot lever, not latching it, and anything very tempting to the dog goes into the freezer, just like I had been doing. Bottom line, by it because of the size or because you like the foot lever. OR buy it for the pet latch. Don't buy it for both foot lever and pet latch.

Lamp is easy to put together light plastic. The shade part doesn't fit very tightly and tends to be all wobbly- ended up adding a few stickydots to hold it in place. Horrible vacuum. I seriously don't know how this has such good ratings. I'm so disappointed. This is made just as cheaply as the $15 Bissell you can buy at WalMart. The bottom attachment will not stay on, a wheel broke off the second time I used it, and it is so loud! You'd think the loudness is because it has awesome suction but it doesn't. I'm so disappointed in this item. I'm hoping that the company will refund all my money (I bought the warranty also). The only reason I'm giving this one star is because you have to use a star rating.

The vacuum despite having a very narrow head worked well. Two days ago, after approximately 2 months of use (maybe 12 vacuumings), I went to plug the vacuum in (which has to be done repeatedly due to the very short cord) when the vacuum tipped over and broke. The entire unit is held together by a very small plastic tab that spring-locks the dirt canister to the suction motor. When the vacuum tipped over the plastic tab that is no more than 1/4 inch in size cracked and the unit is now useless. Tossed it and ordered the Bissel for $20 more that I should have purchased originally.

The size is nice for narrow places, which is why I purchased this trash can, in spite of the expensive price. The lid is next to impossible to attach. I wrestled with it close to 30 minutes, read the questions and answers from people as equally as frustrated as me, watched the video link provided by the company, all to no avail. Finally, I was able to hammer it on with a mallet, only then to find out that the lock/unlock mechanism is just as difficult. I'm middle aged with average strength and can't get it to work. For the high price and these difficulties, I'd give it a 1/2 star if I could
