Best roast ever!]
January 3, 2017
This thing is AWESOME! On Christmas 2016 I cooked a ham in the oven and a prime rib roast on the charcoal grill for 30 min then the grill on a roasting pan with 1/2 inch water at all times. We set this Thermometer with the grill and it worked great! One tip though is to get your BBQ to the right temp for 30 min before you put your roast in the BBQ as it took us near a half hour to get to right temp. Finally we figured turn all 3 burners off on our Weber and put the last one on low and that got to the perfect temp for the roast. We pulled our roast out at 130 internal temp and it was PERFECT (medium rare) after an hour of rest wrapped up in tinfoil in the Microwave to keep the heat in. Let me tell you it was so nice to just have the remote in the kitchen while socializing and just check every 10 min out the window to make sure of no flare ups. We had 3 thermometers in the grill with it too to double check temp and it was spot on! Thank you Ivation for giving us one heck of a RELAXING Christmas!
Expensive but useful

The oven in my Amana stove heats lower than indicated but I didn't know how low. A mercury thermometer was hard to read, So I'd have to open the door to read it with a flashlight - and lose heat. The dual probe helped me figure it out without the kabuki dance. I think it paid for itself.I preheated the oven to 400F using the stove's built in digital readout. The stove and dual probe readout were within 10F of each other. I set the BBQ probe below and to the side of a frozen pizza and the food probe in the pizza once it thawed. I found out the oven came back to temp fine then dropped to 40 below the set point and never recovered Until I reset the oven temp to 440. I was able to monitor this from my desk with the remote display. Cool.I have a 22.5" Weber Smokey Mountain water smoker. It will be interesting to see how the dual-probe temps agree with the smoker's built in temp gauge.
Wireless Thermometer.

I purchased this digital thermometer after going on Amazing Ribs website to learn how to smoke ribs. I went through a lot of reviews before settling on this particular thermometer. They said to never trust your grills on bored thermometer as they were not reliable. I had never used these types of digital rod thermometers before but I figured I'd give it a shot. They were absolutely right about the on bored ones because the one on my grill was about 25 degrees off after using this digital one. This one is right on the money and works great with the remote reader. Love it and glad I bought it. Came right on time just for the rib weekend. Thanks!!
Temps were spot on and since this purchase he has produced excellent smoked shoulder and 20# of bacon

Hubby bought this about 2 weeks ago to remotely monitor his smoker. In the past, he was running in and out over the course of many hours to keep track. With this probe, he still regularly checks status but this probe elimates the constant need. Temps have been spot on and since this purchase, he has produced excellent smoked shoulder and 20# of bacon, to perfection. Would highly recommend.
Now working great!

Update: After posting this review I was contacted by an employee from Ivation named Princess (with a cool British accent) and she was very helpful and concerned that I'd had a problem with my thermometer set. She wanted to address the problem so she actually called me directly(nice!) and offered to send me a brand new set. The new set was shipped out VERY quickly and arrived packaged very well. After receiving the new set I've already tried them out and they work great and just as promised. I did compare them against a digital meat probe type thermometer and they are within 1-2 degrees F of the probe so accuracy is great. It's not often that the company will go out of their way to reach out to a customer and do what it takes to make things right, but, I have to hand it to Ivation as they did exactly that and I am now a happy customer! I have updated my review to reflect this.______________________________________________________________________________________________________________Old review on faulty set below....I really wanted to like this wireless thermometer set but I'm now on my second set that has failed. My first set was purchased new here on Amazon but left brand new in the package for months due to not needing them at the time. Finally got around to opening them up to put them to use and they were dead right out of the package. Called Amazon but I was well past the return policy, so right into the trash went a brand new set of non-working thermometers. Like a fool I went ahead and purchased another set in July 2015. I've used them 3-4 times now and they worked great-until this morning. Got my brisket ready for the smoker, broke out the wireless thermometers this morning and now the remote display will not turn on. Thought it might be the batteries so put brand new Duracell's in it, no go. We've tried everything but it appears this set is non-functioning now as well and only after a few uses.I really wanted these to work as it seems so many others are having great luck with them but unfortunately that is not the case for me. Guess I'll have to look elsewhere for some new wireless thermometers.
Top notch item for BBQs and smokers
January 5, 2013
I did a lot of research before buying this device, but now that I own it, I love it. I use it with a Big Green Egg (BGE) to smoke foods. To do it right, you really need to not keep opening and closing the lid. There is a built-in dial thermometer in my BGE, but I have no way of knowing whether it's accurate or not since they have a reputation for being inaccurate, sometimes by as much as 50 to 100 degrees. By using one of the dual probes to monitor the BGE internal oven temperature and the other to keep track of the meat, chicken or pork, I know exactly what needs to be done to maintain the temperature as well as when the meal is cooked. Many of you who are experienced BBQers know that there is often the famous "stall" that happens when cooking low and slow. It will look like the meat has reached a certain temperature and won't go any higher, even though it will if you're just patient and leave it be. That means that it is difficult to cook by time alone on any smoker, including a BGE. With the second probe monitoring the meat, you can watch it hit the stall point and then confidently wait while the meal continues to cook and it reaches the correct internal temperature. The probes are easy to use and set-up. The oven temperature gauge attaches to the wire grill with a special clip. The other control inserts into the meat exactly the way any internal cooking gauge does. You'll need to read the instructions to understand how to pair them and that each button means, but it took me all of 5 minutes to unravel the whole thing. I admit that I'm good with technical things, but this really isn't a difficult item to master. Now that I have this product, I can't imagine cooking without it. I think it gives me much more control over both the oven temperature and making sure the meat is to the temperature I want for maximum tenderness. Highly recommended.

Both my Black + White models within 3 degrees of accurate digital instant read thermo! Good looking units as well.
June 20, 2017
Giving the Ivation 4 stars. Purchased both black and white versions, could not make up my mind. Price was right. Nice display EXCEPT the contrast on the RECEIVER is very hard to see! Any backlight and it is difficult to make out the numbers if tilted back on its holder and on a table. Only way to see numbers easily is in hand and at right angle. That is inside a NON BRIGHT room, who knows on the outside. The Transmitter has a dark numbered display, no problem there. One thing I do not like is to change batteries, you have to remove 2 micro tiny screws with a jewelers Phillips screwdriver. And when you change batteries in either unit, you loose your programming. That is not a big deal as once you program is 2-3 times you will see the setting options change with each push of the SET BUTTON, then use the temp UP DOWN buttons to change setting, then push again. Forget the manual, just use the SET and UP DOWN buttons. I wish this item had 2 things for a 5 star rating! 1 is have a battery level indicator on the LCD at ALL TIMES. Otherwise, I have no idea how many continuous hours I will get out of fully charged Eneloop Rechargables. The Eneloops work great in both my black and white versions, even though they are not 1.5v and are only 1.2. That might impact the low display on the receiver?? Good trade off if that's the case. Eneloops hold a higher charge for longer times that standard rechargables. Only pitfall without a batter level indicator going, no way to monitor voltage left. Eneloops last long but drop off all of a sudden when depleted. So I have a 2nd unit just in case of a long low and slow smoking cookout and the batteries deplete. 2nd item is ditch the micro screws and have a simple latch like the receiver does. I wont mind the screws if I get many many hours out of my spendy Eneloop rechargables. We will see how that goes. In regards to temp variances, I would say both of my units are in acceptable ranges. Tested both hybrid (included) probes against my digital meat temp guage. On the low end with 3 probes in glass of ice water, Ivation readings were within 3 degrees higher than my digital meat probe. I then removed all 3 from the water and watched as the probes rose to room temp of 77 degrees. All 3 probes progresses rapidly and again the Ivations were 3 degrees higher which is close enough for my comfort. I prefer them to be slightly higher rather than lower. What amazed me is my digital meat thermo is an instant read and both Ivation probes were instant as well, no lag time! So for a diff of 3 degrees, I would never balk at that, especially for the price. Bonus, when compared to the Maverick for $70, they are the same units as the newer Mavericks. Same features, only a diff logo and 1/2 the price. If only there were not the little screws! The battery cover falls off without them tightened, part of the water resistance. I understand how the screws create a seal compared to a latch. We will hope the battery time of my Eneloops doesn't fall short! Also, the units come with 2 hybrid 3ft probes. You can use both for either meat temp or cooking area temps. Just make sure when you program, you set probe 1 for food and 2 for cooking area temp. BBQ Butler on Amazon makes replacement 6ft hybrid probes that work with these units. So if you need multi use probes longer than 3t, get them here on Amazon. Well made and great price on those as well.
Very useful. Hope its accurate.

Great addition to my cooking toolset. I use this for my indoor oven. If it's accurate, I found that my oven understates the internal temperature by as much as 30 degrees. I'm had some difficulty mounting the barbecue probe, but a little ingenuity did the trick. The meat probe is by far the best feature. I can work on the computer upstairs and get alarms when the meat temp hits certain temperatures. I haven't found anywhere in my small townhouse where the receiver is our of range. Some negatives are the length of the probe wires. They just were not long enough to stretch to where I wanted to hang the base unit on the oven. Also, setting the alarm times is quite cumbersome and you will find yourself overshooting your target temp until you get the hang of it. It would be great to see a function that tells you the expected completion time based on your target temp. Maybe I haven't discovered it yet.All in all, a must have for those serious about perfect meat or smoking. Somewhat pricey but you will pay $20 for a hand held thermometer that forces you to open the lid or door constantly.
Great for perfectionist cooks!

Small, light-weight, portable, dual probe, long-range, wireless digital thermometer set. The set includes a receiver, transmitter, 2 hybrid probes, and 2 grill clips. We also purchased the option that includes a meat temperature magnet. The probe wires are 3 feet long and rated for 716F. The system can be programmed in F or C and includes 15 preset temperatures for different types of meat. 4, AAA batteries are also included with this set.The wireless receiver allows the cook to monitor his/her BBQ and meat temperatures without having to constantly watch the grill. The receiver screens are easy to read, display both the target-high and target-low temperatures, and can sound an alarm when the temperature reaches the programmed temperature. Although the wireless range is ~300 feet, a loss of signal alert will sound if the cook goes out of range for more than 60 seconds. We don't grill often, but my husband is a perfectionist and will only cook with this thermometer set - he usually uses 1 probe to monitor the meat temperature, and another probe to monitor the grill temperature. This has certainly made cooking and grilling easier and more precise. My only gripe is that this set is a bit challenging to store due to the long probe wires. Would be lovely if the set came with a storage container.

I have not yet had a chance to use it as intended as I am waiting for high-temp shrink wrap for the sensor-- i concur w/ some of the reviews that this is the weak point of this device and needs attention for the future models. Unit itself has not been full tested but there seems to be a 1 degree discrepancy at room temp / body temp, with the grill side always being lower by 1. I will update when i address the sensor issue then test it in actual cooking. I usually do my outdoor cooking on my roof terrace which is about 100' in distance to my kitchen down the stairs (high rise) I do hope the 300' claimed distance is legit.I got the high-temp shrink tubing so it's ready to go. Tested in the oven and works flawlessly. It does take couple of seconds to pair but after that it works great. It should be noted as others have informed that the connection between the probe and wiring does have some potential issues so preventing that problem before using seems to be a good idea. They should make improvements on it on the next model. Would have been a 5 star except i had to do a bit of DIY
Excellent Customer Service!!

UPDATE!2ND REVIEW (9/19/2016):After posting my initial 2-star review here (below), Ivation reached out to me in hopes of providing a better product experience. After many emails back and forth, I ultimately returned my defunct unit in exchange for a new unit. The SUPERB customer service itself is worth 5+ stars. Averaged with my initial review I'll keep this at 4 stars for now, but as soon as I start using the new unit and (hopefully) have a better experience, I'll be happy to bump it up to 5 stars.Hooray for great customer service!!1ST REVIEW (4/20/2016):Huge bummer! I used this thing maybe six or seven times before it totally crapped out on me. Prior to it dying it often lost signal while I was less than 40 feet away. I'd have to walk back to the transmitter, turn both units off, then turn them back on (sometimes more than once) before I could finally get the signal back. Then one day the receiver just didn't turn on anymore (yes, I changed the batteries three different times). I'm hoping maybe it was just a defunct unit, but of course that means I'm gonna have to spend another $60 to find out if I was just unlucky.Huge let down! Back to the analog meat thermometer and losing time on the smoker from opening/closing the lid for now...
Good thermometer
January 12, 2016
I have used this twice since receiving it. The pork tenderloin was easy, just slide it into one end of it, set to 165, pull it out, let it rest... PERFECT. The whole chicken was a little trickier, simply because I didn't insert the thermometer into the best spot. This is something I am trying to get better at figuring out. Once I re-positioned the probe, it turned out perfect. Having a 2nd probe to ensure the correct temp in a BBQ is a nice feature too (I may use it to check the accuracy of my oven temp, too)Downsides: the controls are not intuitive. I will need to pull out the instructions each time until I get used to how to synch the main part with the receiver and set the temp. The default temp setting is 176* (even though most meats are done at 165*. Huh?). So, to set it to 165, my only option is to scroll UP. Up to over 500 then it goes around to 60-ish and starts climbing. Really? A down button would have been nice. Finally, it says it is supposed to some with 4 batteries, but t didn't. Not a huge deal, but worth noting. This item works well, is accurate and the reviews were consistently good. I love the idea of leaving the kitchen/BBQ without wondering if my meat is overcooking.

Pretty darn good, but a bit lacking in some areas.
July 5, 2017
Its a fairly decent thermometer, but i think something is wrong with mine. Currently i have bbq chicken in the oven that I am reheating. I have the food side in a piece of chicken and the BBQ side dangling in the oven which is set to 350, but the thermometer keeps bouncing between 406 and 419 degrees inside the oven!I've used it in my smoker and in my grill as well and it seems to always read really high on the #2 Barbecue side, so i'm not really sure whats wrong with it, but the #1 Food side is great, the wireless range is great, and despite the thing being really difficult to use and figure out (i also have to resync everytime i use it), its very accurate and results in perfectly cooked food.PRO's: Food reading is accurate, Range is incredible, usability is great (can clip it to your pants or belt or stick it in your pocket), the features are great as well!CON's: Very difficult to figure out, have to resync the transmitter and receiver every time, #2 Barbecue reading seems to consistently read much higher than the actual temp
Good quality, lacking in usability

I really wanted to like this wireless thermometer, but I have decided I am going to sell it and buy a different one. Overall, it works well - the range is good, and the temperature readings seem pretty accurate. However, there are limitations and missing features that make it inconvenient for me.PROS:1) Good range2) Works consistently3) Good accuracy4) Nice look & feelCONS:1) As others have noted, when setting the min/max temperature ranges, there is no way to decrease the setting. You have to keep increasing the temperature setting until it "wraps" around (from what I recall, this happens at 550 degrees F or so). This is very time-consuming when you're trying to get it set up, and it's really something the manufacturer should have included. I've never seen a device that works like this - well, maybe alarm clocks in the 1980s.2) There are no min temperature guidelines by meat type and desired "doneness". I don't have all meat types and temperature ranges memorized, and having to look up the internal temperature for medium rare steak is not something I feel I should have to do. I can see why they may not have wanted to include this, as guidelines change over time, but for me it's a big inconvenience.FYI, the model I'm thinking of purchasing as a replacement is this one, as it has the features I want: http://smile.amazon.com/Maverick-Range-Wireless-Smoker-Thermometer/dp/B00FOCR4UI/

February 18, 2015
Overall the thermometer works great. This is not an instant read thermometer so do not expect to stick the probe in the meat and get an accurate reading in a few seconds, but rather a few minutes. It is meant for long term BBQing where temperatures change slowly. Two stars taken away because this is my 4th maverick dual probe thermometer (but my first wireless) and at least one probe has died within a few uses from every one of them. Maverick's customer service is a bit slow, but they have sent me replacement probes. I have a drawer full of dead Maverick probes and I never know when the next one is going to go.As long as the probes work, this thermometer is great.
Good probe that needs better engineering
February 12, 2015
Well-constructed, nice size, and good functionality; so do you want the good or the bad first. Lets go with the good. The GoodThe unit is of heavy plastic and is sturdy. The probes and their cables are heavy duty. I have had the Barbeque probe up to 500º without a problem. The displays on both units are very easy to read even if I take my glasses off.Great temperature range; both food and BBQ maximums go from 32ºF to 572ºF. While technically the max BBQ range is limited because it cannot be set less than or equal to the min BBQ temperature – another obvious but good feature. It has good range. I have taken the receiver all over my house and even went to a geographically close neighbor’s house and I still received the temperatures. The instructions for setting it are clear and the actual setting it is not very difficult. The temperature probes are shaped differently so it very easy to tell them apart.Once it is set up you are done until the food is done or you need to heat up or cool down the BBQ.The BadTwo problems I have with this device are in setting it. First there is no down so if you pass your temperature you have to go all the way up to 572º at which point it returns to the min temperature and starts up again. Although when you press and hold the temperature set button it goes very quickly it is still frustrating when I pass the desired temperature. The second problem is the default temperature for food – it is set the same as the BBQ max default – 176º. In the instructions it says that the FAA highest recommended temperature is 165º (for poultry). That means that every time you turn on the receiver (it goes to the default when it is shut off) you have to go all the way through 572º and back up to your desired temperature. The other problem I have is the alarm – it is worthless. I used to fly jets so I have lost some of my high range hearing so I asked a couple friends to evaluate the alarm. If they were more than two steps from the receiver they could not hear it. If the TV or radio was on we are talking about a foot or two before the alarm could not be heard by any of my friends.
Otherwise solid thermometer hindered by poor interface (button) design

The Maverick ET-733 is a nice tool for a grillmaster who's got a lot going on--or just wants to make the best of his time. I've used this for both my grill and my smoker, both with good success. The product works mostly as advertised. The features work fairly well and do more or less what you would expect from them--I'll leave those to the product description, but basically the two probes can either be set to monitor grill temperature (just above the grate) or inserted into meat for internal temperature monitoring. There are quite a few presets for different types of meats, and "doneness" (ranging from rare to well done). For the average home griller, this is quite overkill.Unfortunately, the real problem here is that there are so many options, and so few buttons, that it can be fairly confusing setting the configuration to what you are aiming for. The positive thing about this is if you're using it for the same thing fairly often, you'll probably be fine since it will store the previous settings used. However, the first time you set it up is very confusing, as the buttons are not intuitive to scroll through the "menu" of meat and grill options. A couple of buttons are useful, but only in certain contexts. For instance, the up and down arrows appropriately raise or lower the target temperature--but do completely different things when you're not at the numeric temperature setting. This is generally fine for me--I set one probe to monitor the grill, and the other for meat--and typically I'm using the meat probe for my smoker, which aims for similar temperatures of ~190-205 meaning little re-configuration is needed. But for someone who uses it for a bit more varied cooking options, it might be difficult and painful to reconfigure for every grill-out.The other peculiarity I noticed--and this might be my specific thermometer receiver--is that the screen is fairly difficult to view at times. Normally with any type of screen, holding the screen at an angle like you'd look into a mirror to see your eyes, you would have a fairly clear image. Unfortunately, on my Maverick receiver, I need to angle the screen downward--following the mirror analogy, that would be like trying to point it down to see my feet--to clearly see the screen. This means that if my table/countertop that the receiver is standing on is eye level (if my chair is low) the viewing angle means that I need to pick up the receiver and angle it downward to see. This makes the kickstand pretty useless to me, and makes it a less passive measurement, since I need to interact with the receiver whenever I want to look at the temperature. The alarm feature works fairly well, so I don't find myself staring at the screen much. However, especially with the smoker temperature, I like to set the 'alarm' temperature range a bit wider since I know my (cheap) smoker fluctuates a bit. So it's nice to keep an eye on the temperature, even if it's not alarm-worthy fluctuations. With all that said, I would still recommend this product. However, it didn't wind up being worth the normal price, so I'm glad I waited for a sale or I might have regretted the purchase.
Hard to use and clunky, but quite accurate thermometer
July 24, 2014
This grill thermometer has a few usability issues, but it is quite accurate and helps preparing perfectly tempered meat every time. The issue I have with this model is that it's overly complicated and sometimes downright annoying to use, to the point where you'd like to think its user interface has been created by fired Dell laptop designers. For example, there's two alarm settings: you can set audible alarms that go off when either the grill or the meat are reaching preselected temperatures. If these thresholds are reached, the receiver starts beeping like the house is on fire and won't stop. What am I supposed to do with it while I put the meat on the grill, because it has reached its operating temperature, drown the receiver in a bucket of water to shut it up so my guests aren't freaking out?To set target temperatures for two sensors (grill and meat), there's exactly one button for each, which lets you only *increase* the target temperature. The counter goes up to 50 ... 100 ... 150 ... by about 10 degrees a second, and after like 20 seconds when you have reached the desired temperature, you need to quickly let it go to stop it, but you'll typically be off by 1 or 2 degrees. No big deal, but pretty dumb design. If you overshoot by too much, you need to start again, and that'll take you another 20 seconds or more. To set both an alarm when the grill is ready to put the meat on and another to go off when the grill is about to overheat is impractical for this reason, because you'd have to fiddle with the stupid dials for minutes instead of tending to your grill.Another issue: When you turn on the sending and receiving units, you have to do it within the same second or the receiver won't find the sender and you need to restart both by pressing the "on" button for about 6 seconds. Why doesn't the receiver search for a bit longer? Why 6 seconds of press time, would it be the end of the world if you turned it on or off briefly by accident? What is this, a grill thermometer, or a nuke launcher? The unit comes with two metal sensors which don't look like you could put them into the dishwasher for cleaning (at least the manual is quiet about it, but the plugs don't look like they could stomach the hot water), so I'm cleaning them by hand every time (which you need to do because one sensor is being inserted into the meat). So, in short, it's nice to have a grill thermometer to get your meat right without constantly opening the hood and checking, but this unit needs to be redesigned by someone with talent to be useful.

Not a bad set for the price.
August 2, 2017
AMENDED REVIEW...After 5 uses like another reviewer said, the antenna broke off. After the sixth use a probe quit working. Save the heartache and order a little bit more expensive one. They seem to do a pretty good job on my pellet smoker. The BBQ probe for the smoker heat always seems to be a bit off of what I've got the temp set at on the smoker. The internal meat temp one is the one I'm most concerned about anyway and this seems to be right on. When I first got it I double checked it with another digital internal and an old school dial style. All were within a degree of each other. So far so good, but I don't know if I would say they are "Long Range". Better pricing than some others. Going to use the high temp alarm setting in a couple weeks and hopefully that works too!
Good electronics, poor probes.
December 10, 2016
This thermometer (which presumably is the same as the renowned Maverick) is technically a good device. The electronics are decent quality for the price and the features are excellent for the price. My concern is with the quality of the probes. Both probes failed within 2 months of receipt of the device. Replacement probes are quite costly given the overall device costs and have me reconsidering, if they are the same quality of the first, if it's worth continuing to replace them or upgrade to a better quality device with K-Thermo probes.
So far, not happy!
August 28, 2016
I received this timer yesterday. It's replacing another timer just like it that stopped working, however it's a different make.Within the description under features, the company claims the receiver comes with a belt clip and a built-in stand. This receiver did NOT come with a belt clip. They also claim that "Receiver beeps and flashes when meat temperature goes above or below your programmed temperature." This is not true because you cannot program a lower end to your meat temperature. As a matter fact the default temperature of this thermometer starts at 176° and you can only go up from there. There is no lower temperature button for the first probe, which is your meat probe. No meats that I cook need to get up to 176°, so to change that to a lower temperature I have to sit and hold the high temperature button in order to make the temperature setting go up to 572° just to get it to wrap back around to 32°, and from there very carefully bring it up to the temperature I want for my meat. If I accidentally go over the temperature I am aiming for, I get to go looping all the way around again until I get the correct temperature for my meat. If they can't resolve this issue I am returning this barbecue thermometer. If this cannot be resolved it's quite a waste of time trying to set the temperature for another piece of meat, if that temperature happens to be lower than the last piece of meat I cooked. I hope this review his helpful and I'll update this review as soon as I get word from the company.
Nice features on the transmitter and receiver

Nice features on the transmitter and receiver, but the probes are so inaccurate that they are not at all useful. Probes can periodically jump 15-20 degrees and remain at the elevated temperature. I tried cleaning thoroughly with a damp cloth but the same thing continued to happens. I was cooking chicken tonight and the food probe indicated 165 degrees, I pulled the bird off the smoker and it was bloody on the inside. I put in a calibrated probe and it registered 140 degrees.
Good Concept - Poor Implementation
March 1, 2015
I bought this as a gift for my wife. We grill all year round including through the winter. This was supposed to be helpful for my wife not to have to constantly go out and check the grill especially in frigid temps or poor weather. The effort that is involved however completely negates any potential benefit. First, I don't care what anyone else says, the device is not at all intuitive to program - even with the manual handlt. What's worse is that it is a major pain in the butt to keep the metal wires off the grill grates. (One end of the metal wire is attached to a skewer that goes through your meat and the other end plus into a device that sits outside your grill that send the signals wirelessly to an indoor remote. The wire is not supposed to touch the grates - try doing that when you are flipping the meat). If you can deal with all of that then you have the issue of the accuracy of the temperature and the fact that the device cannot tell you if your meat is burning on the outside. All-in-all, this is a great concept that is poorly designed. Absolutely would NOT recommend.
Wireless unit useless
August 31, 2013
I've had the ET732 for a few months now and I have to say I'm really NOT happy with it. I bought it for the wireless feature so on rainy Seattle days I didn't have to go outside to constantly check my temps. The biggest problem is the unit looses its wireless signal. The company states other wireless components will interfere with this units signal. Well, here's an idea maverick, how about using a different frequency so it doesn't. I don't know the intricacies of the FCC but there needs to be a better way. As I'm sitting here my receiver is 2 feet from the transmitter and it looses its signal and starts to beep. Put new batteries in this morning. The only saving grace for this thing is the transmitter, it does seem to display correct temps. i don't use the meat probe very much so i cant say anything about that side to this unit. Well, if your looking for a wireless thermometer that doesn't work, this one is for you, BUT if you are like me and want your products to work correctly, look elsewhere. I don't have any other unit recommendations at this time.

Poor probe quality and unreliable customer support.
November 22, 2016
The low rating is due to a combination of poor product quality combined with equally poor product support. I ordered and received an Ivation wireless thermometer approximately 5 weeks ago. I was happy with it at first, as it performed to expectations and was easy enough to use after reading the manual. However, after only 3 uses the food probe failed completely, which was discovered after I put a large pork shoulder into my smoker. I plugged the BBQ probe into the food port to make sure the problem wasn't with the transmitter unit, and the unit was able to read a correct temp from that probe just fine. I never immersed either probe in liquid nor did I abuse the wiring in any way. Both were handled very cautiously.A quick Google search on the symptoms quickly revealed that probe failure after even minimal use is quite common...enough so to suggest either an design/engineering flaw or poor quality control. So I contacted Ivation customer support via e-mail 8 days ago to inform them of the problem. I did receive a prompt response with an apology and a notification that they would be shipping me a replacement probe "by the end of the day tomorrow". After a full week passed since the date it was supposed to have shipped I still had not received the replacement probe, so I sent a follow-up e-mail to Ivation support and received a response apologizing for the delay, and once again claiming that it would be shipped "by the end of the day tomorrow". That was today, so we'll see if they really mean it this time. I'm not holding my breath.
Multiple updates at end. Defective probe after minimal use.

I loved this product 12 of the 13 times I used it-more on that later. It was pretty instant read. The cords are a little too short in my opinion because when you go to move the food on a larger grill, you will move the thermometers, which pulls the cords, which knocks over the transmitter box. I couldn't test to 300ft, but the range is pretty good. I have walked through my house out to the front yard, about 75 ft through walls and still got a reading. Setting the alarms is kinda a pain, so I just keep my eye on it. -1 star for the short cords and lack of ease of use on the alarms. It was great to not have to cut into meat or to continue to open the grill and poke the meat to make sure it was done.On the 13th try - about 10 months after my wife purchased these for me, the grill temperature probe showed 500 after 3 minutes of cooking. The grill thermometer only showed 300, so I turned it down thinking the grill thermometer broke. It took me 5 minutes to realize the probe was broken. Once it got above 250 degrees it started reading way too high. I tried boiling water and it still read accurate at about 211, but it was giving me readings near 600 degrees on my grill with 1burner. The grill has a tough time getting to 550 with all burners on high.I emailed customer service who was very prompt and helpful and sent a new probe free of charge. Long story short, and no thanks to the United States Post Office, but it's been a month and I still don't have the new probe. 4 stars prior to the device breaking. -2 more for the device failing with such little use. Kudos to customer service for trying to replace the defective probe, but in the end, I still don't have a working probe so the rating stays the same.UPDATE 11/2/16: The company saw my review and made a second attempt to send me a new grill temp probe. I just tested it tonight and it worked well. It was off between 5-8 degrees, but works for me. I will rate it 4 stars again and update if I have any more issues.UPDATE 9/10/17. I use these maybe once a month and not during the einter. So after 5 uses the probe has failed. I included a video showing hot water and how one reads 100 degrees off. It did read accurate until it hit boiling temp, 212. Then it just kept climing and never came back down. My house, according to the probe, is 206 degrees inside.Ps: videos take forever to upload so hopefully you find this helpful.
Nice concept, too bad the thermometers are not even ...

Nice concept, too bad the thermometers are not even close to accurate. When I first powered up the unit and plugged in the probes, the gave different temperatures. I was hoping this would be just a fluke, but in the end I sent the unit back as defective. To test the unit I filled a double walled vacuum cup with ice and water. I got a reading using my "Lavatools Javelin Digital Instant Read Food and Meat Thermometer", 32 degrees on the nose. I also used my current digital single probe meat thermometer and it also read 32 degrees. So far so good. Then I placed the Ivation probes in the water. After 5 minutes the Ivation was showing 46 degrees on probe one and 36-38 degrees on probe two. BTW the LavaTools and my single probe were still showing 32 degrees.Maybe I got a bad one, but with that level of inaccuracy I will not be trying the brand / model again.
Programming this gizmo is also just horrible. Horrible & more...
May 29, 2016
Was neat the first 3 uses then started noticing a 300° delta between this guy and the built in thermometer on my ceramic grill. Not knowing which to trust, I quickly borrowed another digital thermometer from a neighbor and confirmed this Ivation was completely off. At that point, i just got used to using it as a meat thermometer which completely kills the purpose of this being a "dual" thermometer. Programming this gizmo is also just horrible. Horrible. Well, it's a year later and almost turkey time again and got re-disappointed all over again about this purchase. Also not pleased that the price has now dropped $30 since I bought this on 11/2015.... but I'm not surprised.
This BBQ Probe was HIGHER by 31F when tested against 3 other units.
May 11, 2016
Just re-boxed the Black colored unit for return. I had high hopes for this unit based on reviews and user photos. Have another brand that I discovered 2 days ago was reading 27F degrees HIGH while trying to smoke a batch of salmon. So I ordered this unit and had it shipped next day. Took it out of the box, reviewed the instructions inserted the batteries and put the probe in my brand new electric oven set to 150F. I placed 2 separate round oven temp dials in the oven as well. I set the oven to pre-heat and it sounded when it reached the mark. Looked through the window and BOTH temp dials were pegged at 150. I positioned the Thermometer BBQ probe a few inches away from the oven's built in probe and waited. Well, the temp reading finally stopped rising when it hit 181-- a full 31 degrees higher than the oven and the two other dials. Just to be sure, I got out my IR temp gun and my oven was SPOT ON AT 150.So, Unfortunately, I'll have to keep looking for something else. I was really hoping this would work, but I must have gotten a bad one.
Garbage
January 31, 2016
Used once and now temperature is of between 5 and 20 degrees between the 2 probes. This happens even when I swap the probes between the two ports. So the problem is the unit itself. Missed the small Amazon return window so now I will have to deal directly with the company itself. Thanks Amazon.
