Great coffee and good looks by one of the best and trusted brands
February 18, 2017
This is our second Cuisinart coffeemaker. The first one lasted about 10 or 12 years. Well worth the cost. We liked it so much we are back for another one. It makes great coffee, is easy to use, and looks very nice with all our other stainless appliances. The stainless finish seems to be slightly different than the last model. It actually stains, whereas the other one did not. A little extra polishing may be required to keep it shiny and new looking, the way we like it.
Excellent coffee maker!
January 16, 2017
This is the best coffee maker we have ever had. It has withstood the test of time (we bought it in 2009), is super easy to use, and makes great coffee. It also seems to be the coffee maker of choice in lots of TV shows and movies :-)
Like it's a little bit loud
December 21, 2016
Ok.... Be warned the red is REALLY RED. Like it's a little bit loud. However the amazingness of the coffee totally makes up for it. I am pretty much a coffee maker snob. I need garbillion degree coffee and a huge pot of it. None of that single serve junk. I mean really who drinks "a" cup of coffee. That's just enough to make me angry. Anyways! I love that I can add cream to my coffee and it is still hot. Like the hot you get from a restaurant hot. It's perfect. Works great and love my machine.
Want rich tasting coffee? Get this one!
March 31, 2016
Have been using this for 4 years now and had to get one for my daughter. She kept saying she could not get coffee as good as mine no matter how hard she tried or what brand of coffee she got. This model has a button(upper left) that says for 4 cups. This causes the water to heat at a higher temp before spraying onto the coffee. Lets face it, with only 4 coffee cups worth of water, you don't get much time for the water to be hot enough to get the full flavor out of your grounds! So I use it every time for full or half pots of coffee and always get a full rich cup of coffee! Don't waste your time on other brands. This one is worth the money!
I LOVE this coffee maker
January 21, 2014
This is our third in nine years.First one died due to a power surge so the electronics got fried.Second one the lid didn't sit flush, but we humored it. It too got fried. (We live in Florida - lots of thunderstorms).Third one? Well, the glass carafe DID NOT sit well, so I got out the old one and used the old one's coffee filter holder basket too. Now all's well. The new carafe when placed in the unit was so sloppy I thought they were kidding me. Almost like the carafe had a rounded bottom??? Anyway - all's well as stated.I like the "stainless steel" finish on this model - like it's plastic coated or just fake SS anyway? Whatever, it cleans up nicely.Would, and no doubt will, buy this very same model again, in another three years!
Unique appearance and great tasting coffee.
December 25, 2008
4 year update ---Amazing! Still works great and looks great. Always produces tasty coffee even though I have neglected (deliberately) to replace the charcoal filters as frequently as recommended by the manufacturer.1 year update ---Still perfect in every way! Not a single issue or inconvenience after a full year of 1 to 2 pots of coffee daily. I must live in a charmed region of the US because I have not changed the small charcoal filter until recently and it always produced fine coffee. The gold tone filter basket was seldom used (it really did leave rather grainy sediment, as expected). I soon removed the filter basket and just use standard paper filters... never had a paper filter collapse during brewing. My coffee maker is left on a kitchen counter with a low cabinet clearance, so I simply slide it toward me to fill the small top opening under the lid - never a problem. The finish is still immaculate and all controls function perfectly and are easy to program. The auto shut-off is a wonderful and useful feature - no burned coffee forgotten in the carafe. Couldn't be happier with this product!Original review ---I was sold by reviews I had read, the simple look, the uncommonly long warranty period, and finally the sale price on amazon.com. After 1 month of use, I am completely satisfied and actually quite impressed. Not the curvy plastic contours of many other new products (which can look simply cheap) and everything functions wonderfully. I use #4 filter papers placed inside the permanent lift-out gold tone filter basket to limit transfer of grounds to the carafe. This entire unit has a very solid & stable feel. The carafe is a smooth design and does not drip. This product will require a bit of cabinet height clearance to allow filling the small water reservoir located toward the rear beneath the hinged lid, but I just pull the unit forward on my counter - useful too for seeing the "steps" of the water lever indicator. The coffee tastes great even with nasty local tap water, so the mini charcoal filter seems to work very well. I would recommend using bottled water for hard water areas to increase filter replacement time (my local grocery store offers purified water refills for only .30 per gallon from a vending machine). Coffee making time is around 7 minutes for a full carafe (which seems quite fast) and 5 gentle peep-peep-peep tones sound when cycle is complete. This is a very easy unit to keep perfectly clean. All the coffee which I have tested tastes great! And, a 3-year warranty... when do you ever see that? The two knobs (yes, REAL genuine plastic rotary knobs) function nicely and I happen to like the Retro-appearance of this product. The ON/OFF lever looks like it would "click" into position, but is a clever faux-toggle which self-centers after it activates a silent electronic switch. The 4 small metal buttons are soft-touch sensors too. Tiny LED lights on the front indicate when certain functions are active, but they do not demand excessive distracting attention. The LCD clock/timer is easy to use and to read although un-lit. I have just added 3 photos of this product with captions you may wish to view, too.I purchased this from amazon.com with FREE shipping and during a surprise 1-day sale of precisely the model & color I was seeking - the $60 total price was a great bargain (these are seldom found discounted) - but the full $80 list price I would not hesitate to pay if purchasing again. It was delivered in only 3 days and arrived in a very securely packed outer carton. Before making this purchase I spent an entire day reading hundreds of various reviews for a several highly rated products within this price range. I think this was a great choice and one not simply made on impulse or for appearance or price alone. This definitely gets my vote for a fine and very solid feeling product.

Basically this is great and I really like the retro touches
September 20, 2017
Basically this is great and I really like the retro touches. The color is very nice and fits in our decor. However... You really have to make sure the top is seated tightly. We had it overflow coffee all over the counter necessitating a massive cleanup. It would seem when the lid is closed that the filter cone would also be thoroughly seated. Not necessarily it seems.Otherwise it makes great coffee.
Nice product, would love a battery backup for the clock
June 5, 2017
High quality product, hope it lasts a long time. Only complaint, and this applies to a LOT of clock controlled products: Power failures and flucutations are a fact of life in many areas, For a the few cents it would be easy to include a battery backup for the clock. This would solve a royal pain and cost next to nothing for the manufacturer.
Quality coffeemaker
January 16, 2015
All the knobs and buttons can look a little complicated until you realize you only need to use the toggle switch for everyday brewing. Everything else is for setup and customization.Pros:Carafe is non-drippy. The spout is thin edged plastic, so no drops running down the side of the pot after pouring.Auto-off is programmable. I have mine set for 15 minutes as I like to make small batches of coffee. There are three selectable heat levels for the warming plate.Seems pretty sturdy and well made.Cons:The opening for the water is relatively small. You need to focus on pouring rather than watching the birds outside at the feeder. When you open the cover, a trickle of water from the condensation on the inside runs down the back and onto the counter. It's maybe a quarter teaspoonful so I don't worry about it.Pro/Con depending on environment: it beeps when done brewing, and again when it shuts off. I don't think there's a way to turn this off.
Very good coffee maker
January 2, 2013
I upgraded from Mr. Coffees and Black & Decker coffee makers. It makes a really nice cup of coffee. What I love the most - it doesn't drip/dribble when you pour the coffee! Two things I am not wild about: first, the lid has to be removed to fill it, it doesn't have a hinge-like attachment so it can be flipped up. Not a big deal, but I did forget to attach the lid to the pot several times when I was still getting used to it. Second, I wish there were a window on the side to see the measurement of water rather than having to look down from above the coffeepot which is difficult when it's on a counter (unless you're over six feet, maybe). I rely solely on the lines of measurement on the pot itself. Not a big deal at all, but I would change the design. Overall, though, very happy with it.
Excellent coffee maker
December 21, 2007
I'll start with the reason I didn't give this coffee maker 5 stars. The water container is very hard to get to and to see how much water you pour in. This is a considerable inconvenience. I overcame it by using a container with just the right amount of water and put that in the maker. It still is in an inconvenient position, however. That said, the coffee maker is definitely commercial grade. While the documentation is not too good, it's pretty easy to get going with the unit. It's also a very stylish appliance that you'll be proud to have in your home or office.Having a water filter is a big advantage but it can also get costly and inconvenient to have to buy them and keep them on hand. I use water that's already filtered so it's not going to be a problem. The self-clean feature is also a good one.I'm a coffee connoisseur so I demand excellent coffee. I grind it before putting it into the pot. So my review is based on freshly ground coffee. In my case, the coffee is above average and it doesn't take much time to brew. It also makes a few beeps when the brewing cycle has ended. All in all, a very fine coffee maker for the person who loves great coffee and wants a stylish, commercial grade appliance to handle the job.
better than Mr. Coffee's I have tried
April 15, 2007
I ordered this after years of purchasing - and throwing away - Mr. Coffee models that stopped working after short periods of time. I have had it for a month and so far so good.I purchased this during a very breif one day sale on Amazon for $50 including shipping, and I think it more frequently goes on sale for $60 with free shipping - but not sure.It makes good coffee, using a differant system than a normal drip maker - as the hot water is injected into the grounds utilizing a somewhat pressurized sealed brewing area. However, this also means when you are done, and have cleaned the unit, if you close the lid the moisture remains locked into this area - may be a health issue, not sure? The unit is tall - and if you open the lid to add coffee or water, or clean it or let it dry out, it will probably not fit underneath most above the counter cabinets with the lid raised. This means you have to pull it out towards the front edge of your kitchen counter for filling and cleaning. This height also makes it a little tough to see the inside water marks, so you need to fill the desired water level by refering to the marks on the carafe and not on the inside of the maker. The carafe is a little difficult to clean, as the lid has recessed areas that prevent all of the cleaning / rinsing water from draining out when you turn it upside down, and so you have to rinse it out a number of times to get all of the remaining coffee out of it.The metal filter is nice, which eliminates the need for paper filters, and the little handle makes it easy to remove for cleaning. If you want to use paper filters it looks like you would have to purchase cone shapped filers, and not the more typical flat bottom filters.I did not try the auto programing feature, I just fill it each morning and turn it on. I wish there was a way to turn off the 5 beeps that occure when done brewing so it would not make that noise which might wake up others in your home that might still be sleeping.Even with all of the little disapointments or concerns, still seems like a very good unit.

Good, but cracked when received.
June 23, 2017
It's a good coffee maker but I received it damaged. I just noticed it because a sticker was covering it, and I finally got around to removing it. Unfortunately I noticed too late and my window for returns is closed. Make sure you inspect it when it's received.
Old Toggle switches should be Gone by Now.
May 16, 2017
The first one I received did not work. It had a faulty on/off switch. I returned it and got a replacement. It worked fine for exactly two years to the day. Now this does not go on and I assume it is a faulty switch again. I like the Cuisinart coffee maker and will replace this with the 3200 model which has a button and not an old fashioned toggle switch to turn it on.
Great product but with annoying flaws
April 21, 2016
I traded in my Keurig for this. I wanted a real cup of coffee and not the slightly artificial Keurig cup that I put up with for so long. And this machine delivers that. It's easy to use and clean and I do like it. However, it has this special button to push if you make less than 5 cups of coffee that is supposed to help make it hot enough for consumption. This button works just fine for 4 cups. But anything less, the coffee is just not hot enough when the machine beeps to say it's ready. Even if I increase the plate temperature to the max amount. I end up putting it in the microwave for 30 seconds to a minute to get it up to the right temp. I just thought people should be aware if they are used to making a single cup of coffee. Also the lines inside the reservoir to indicate the cups are very difficult to see less than 6 cups. There should be a clear window to see the water level on the outside. Simple addition that would make it so much better.
It's ok but requires a level of attentiveness that the average coffee drinker might not like.
January 30, 2016
I've had two issues. I don't find that it has an automatic shut off if you forget to turn it off. It may, but the manual is unclear about that and I haven't stuck around long enough to find out. I literally turned around and drove home the other morning because i forgot to turn it off. The last coffee pot I had was very clear about it having an automatic shut off. And this morning for the second time, the pot stopped filling with the water and the filter clogged, and I had a mess on my hands. . . not because the coffee filter needed cleaning but because the coiled hole where the water drips/pours into the pot became clogged. And I don't really understand why that is happening. I am not getting coffee grounds in my coffee. So this is a coffee system that requires pampering. It makes a good pot of coffee but you have to keep an eye on the water access points to be sure they are totally clear. I'll keep using it, but I wouldn't buy it again. I waited to write this review for just this reason. I've had it now for three months.
On our 5th or 6th cuisinart model, They look great but never last as long as they should
August 1, 2013
We've owned 2 of the E model cappuccino makers and gifted one, three of the 12 Cup Brew Central's a 14 cup Brew Central, and a similar model with the thermal mug (the thermal did not keep coffee hot, guests nicely and rightfully complained). While the cappuccino makers have held up the best at about 3 years life span before they started sputtering (bi-monthly cleaned out with vinegar); all of the coffee makers have died in an average of 2 to 2.5 years. Sadly, we've kept buying for the aesthetics until we find a brand that looks attractive on the counter and actually lasts. I am convinced (from experiences in the last four years of owning multiple homes with washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, coffee pots, food processor, vacuum, etc all dying far before their time) that the corporate objective of the majority of mid-market small and large appliances is to design them to have one or multiple parts break within a certain time span so that you have to purchase another. A sickening reality of contemporary consumerism driven by corporate greed. I'd prefer they charge 20% more and create a product that does not need to go into land fills. From Cuisinart to brands that may be more sturdy; the prices double to triple, and many of the more expensive non-commercial models also do not last. Our nearly $200 Cuisinart set of butcher block knives is also the worst that we've ever owned, with the edges of the blades actually crumbling/ chunking off. If you can find another brand with decent reviews of reliability and longevity, I'd try that brand instead.
Really good, if it lasted
November 8, 2011
I am not going to give a lengthy review as those have already been noted. This is a decent coffee machine that has worked well for us. The only problem is that is lasted about a year before the pump and heater died. Called Cuisinart and they gave me some troubleshooting steps to perform. They told me to fill it up with a 50/50 water/Vinegar solution. This was curious to me as I just told the the pump did not work and I would end up having to drain the solution manually (which I had to do). The told me it was still under a "limited" warrant which means I had to pay for shipping the unit back. They sent a replacement I shipped the broken one back, no fuss from them. Overall decent machine and I hope this second one lasts more than a year.

Plastic and Heat = Warping
December 23, 2015
Will be replacing this gem by Cuisinart - disappointing. Not sure what heat and plastic work in conjunction to make morning java? The top lid is plastic, which is the funnel / conduit for your steaming hot water, which is an interesting design choice. Needless to say this plastic lid will begin to warp over time which results in great about of steam released from this area. The reason for 2 stars is the look is nice, however the plastic design choices deserve less.
Makes good coffee, but you can only rent it for about 24 months.
July 26, 2014
Updating this review. The unit I purchased when I wrote the original review just died after almost exactly two years. Same electrical problem that killed the previous two dead units. As I said at the time, this coffeemaker has to be considered consumable - so if you like the coffee that it makes, and you like the way it fits on your counter, you have to buy it over and over again. I now have three dead ones and one still working, so I'm buying number 5 today.---Original Review from July 2014:I give this product three stars, because while it makes good coffee, it will not last. I have two of these units sitting here dead, and one that still works. I'm buying another one today, because I now have spare carafes and baskets from the ones that died, and I like the coffee that it makes.Just know that you can only rent this unit, not buy it, as it will fail in couple of years. If you're OK with buying the same thing over and over again just to have one that works, as I am, then buy this product and enjoy the coffee. But if you're going to be upset and disappointed when it doesn't last, choose a different product.
Wouldn't Buy It Again
June 15, 2014
This has to be the most annoying coffee maker I have ever owned (and I've owned a lot of them over the years). Yes, it is attractive. yes, it makes a good cup of coffee and keeps it hot. But unless you seat the coffee basket EXACTLY right and place the carafe EXACTLY right you end up with a fifteen minute clean up job of coffee grounds that overflow into the coffee and all over the counter. I returned the first one because I thought it was defective but the replacement did exactly the same thing. I have learned that it does not like paper filters so I have stopped using them and use only the permanent filter that came with the pot. But still, if I am not extremely careful, the backup of water in the filter area happens and I have a mess on my hands. I guarantee that this would happen every single time my husband attempted to make a pot of coffee......if he ever attempted to make a pot of coffee! One shouldn't have to be so absolutely precise about putting together the morning coffee fix. I have never before had a coffee maker that was this finicky! I would not buy this one again nor would I recommend it to a friend.
This is our second one and both died too soon
February 4, 2014
We bought this coffeemaker a couple of years ago and really liked it until it died after about a year and a half. We considered buying a different one, but settled on this one again after reading the reviews and determining it died out of bad luck. Not so much. The second one we purchased died after a year and a half as well. First, the thing would just shut off mid brew and not turn back on. We cleaned it thoroughly based on suggestions by people having the same problem. It worked for maybe a week or two and then the burner went out on it. Coffee would come out luke warm and then the power button would stay on until we manually turned it off when before, it would shut off on its own after an hour. Oh, and the ability to set the time has never worked on the second one. Therefore, we couldn't set the timer to brew in the morning. The time worked fine on our first one. We won't be buying this one again or another Cuisinart for that matter. We're looking at the Bunn makers now.
Quit working after only 8 months of use!
January 17, 2014
When my Mr. Coffee finally died after a number of years of use I searched high an low for another red Mr Coffee replacement without any success. I then came across this Cuisinart that came in a number of colors as well as red. I was impressed by the look and color as well as the over 4,000 reviews (on a coffee maker no less). I did not care for the cheap control knobs on the face or the ultra small / unreadable clock face. However, it was red, looked very nice and had great reviews. Even though it cost twice as much ($88.99) than most others, I bought one with confidence and it was red. After only 8-mos of use the warmer plate quit warming and then after putting in 12 cups of water you only get 6 cups of coffee and is now useless. Too much trouble to box up and pay shipping and $10 for warranty replacement (thank you Cuisinart). Very expensive for only 8-mos of use. I have now found a Mr. Coffee BVMC-VMX36 Coffee maker, Red/Black for $40.82. Sometimes cheaper really is better. I gave this a 2 star rating because...yes it really is pretty.
WAS great, until... danger!
January 11, 2013
Wonderful taste, simple design, workhorse coffee maker since June 2010 when I purchased this coffeemaker on Amazon. Today, a holy hell of burning plastic odor, boiling coffee, plus black smoke frightened my household. The heating element seems to have overheated and melted down all the internal wiring. Thank goodness I was right in the kitchen as it was happening, so I quickly unplugged it and set it outside on the concrete driveway. I thought I had no recourse with Cuisinart since it is more than a year old, and apparently this is a common and known problem - based on a few more web searches. IF you have this coffee maker, please be careful! I am so disappointed, since my good old $20 Mister Coffee from 1994 is still going strong, and this $90 Cuisinart scorched my countertop and almost started a fire in my home.**UPDATE** I called Cuisinart customer service at 800-726-0190. Had to wait a few minutes, but got a very pleasant person on the line. Excellent resolution: Cuisinart made some heating element changes on models made after January 2012. All I need to do is mail them the snipped-off power cord with a note and the service number they told me over the phone. They are mailing me a brand-new model from an AZ warehouse, should be here in about 7 days. I gave back one more star for excellent customer service.Scary, but resolved well. If your DCC-1200 is older than January 2012, make sure it is off when unattended!

Stopped working after 3 months
April 20, 2017
My husband bought it for me for my birthday in January. It was wonderful - nice hot coffee - for a long time. Just what I like. This weekend I went to brew a pot and it has stopped working. The brew light goes on but nothing happens. Help? It's 3 months old...
Seal Failures (LEAKING!) on 4 Different Cuisinart Coffee Makers
November 5, 2016
So now I am asking myself why I keep going back to Cuisinart for coffee makers?ALL I can say is, I guess they're in the right price point, because the next step up is into the hundreds of dollars... but all of my Cuisinart coffee makers have died from the same or similar problems of seal failures.I got my first Cuisinart coffee maker (identical but brushed aluminum look)... it had a seal fail probably a year then leaked water out of the bottom.I immediately went and got a shiny silver like this. I liked the look and the coffee it made so I figured it was a fluke and got a new one...About a year later, it a seal failure happened so that it no longer would bring water up from the water reservoir to where the coffee grounds were.Next one was an upgrade... slightly bigger and nicer... It lasted about 4 years then did the same thing... stopped transporting water so no coffee would brew. But I figured hey... looks cool... good coffee... lasted a lot longer than the last couple... let's roll with it.But this last one I JUST got a month and a half ago... one of the seals failed and the clock/programming display filled up with water and steam and it is now unusable.Too many seal failures!
Cuisinart Coffee Maker=Terrible Product due to Overflow Problem
April 6, 2016
Terrible product! This coffee maker overflows the brewing basket and carafe spilling grounds and coffee all over counter top and floor. We have read and tried all suggestions listed in the manufacturers instruction manual to no avail. This coffee maker has a major design flaw that causes the overflow problem no matter what is done. My unit was purchased through Amazon in December of 2015 and is no longer eligible for return. Read and heed the hundreds of bad reviews on this product...I wish I had!
I don't love this era of disposable appliances
March 13, 2016
9 months, and already dead. I don't love this era of disposable appliances. In the 9 months it did work, it worked beautifully and made great & consistent coffee. The size of the hole for filling the reservoir is a bit on the small side, and is cumbersome; the steam vent on the top of the unit basically precludes one from using this unit under a cabinet (or in my case, it steamed the paint off the wall).Unit finally failed by losing its ability to pump water up out of the reservoir; just sits there and steams it all out, instead of pumping over to the basket. We tried cleaning/flushing with vinegar solution, but none of the typical fix-it solutions helped out. DCC-1200 now lives in the trash bin :(
Buy something else!
August 3, 2015
Had for less than a year; thought something was wrong with my electrical outlet: the coffee maker would quit brewing before all the water would drip through; the heating pad would not function. The "dripless" carafe is a joke - it dripped like mad! My family suffered through having a piece of over-priced junk slowly giving us luke-warm coffee. After checking on line and finding over 500 negative comments about the 1200, most having the exact same issues I was having, I threw the Cusinart in the garbage and bought a Krups model KM730. I am now in coffee nirvana, and the Krups carafe IS dripless.
Expected more from a Cuisinart
April 30, 2013
I really expected more from a Cuisinart... My unit overflows often no matter how carefully I attempt to position the carafe under the outflow. This is turning my counters dark under the unit and making things hard to clean. Coffee grounds are entering the carafe and I can see where there is overflow from the filter. I have adjusted the heat pad to HI and still the coffee is never warm enough. It brews the same strength of coffee even when I vary the amount of coffee added to the basket.I have several cuisinart appliances and they have all performed well - that's why I bought this coffee maker. But, no this one is not worth the $$$. Looks pretty and professional, but this one's looks are deceiving - don't buy this overflowing maker...
