Side by Side Comparison of: DeLonghi vs Nescafé

We love this single serve pot and have purchased a second one to take with us when we travel. The ease and convenience can't be beat. We purchase our favorite capsules via subscribe and save and love the crema with each cup!We got this to replace Senseo pots which we used for at least 10 years but pods and replacement pots got more expensive. Packaged pods not individually wrapped seemed to lose their flavor quickly. Individually wrapped pods were too expensive.We have tried and do not like the taste of any brewed K-Cups.

Love this machine! After I bought mine I got one as a wedding gift for my uncle and one for my parents for christmas. This makes a great gift and is enjoyable for anyone who likes coffee or tea or even hot chocolate. Everyone I use this I get asked about the machine as everyone is always impressed. Even makes the coffee foamy at the top. Heats up very quickly as well which is great. I buy the capsules right here on Amazon too. You will love this machine!

This is my second purchase, needing one for my vacation home because I love it so much. Heretofore I've not been a single serve machine advocate but this little guy is a wonder and I can't be without it. The drawback for some is that the coffee capsules aren't available in stores but must be ordered online. This is not a problem for me. The coffee offered is top quality.

We've had this machine for 2 years now. I was original dubious of a pod machine but I've been pleasantly surprised. The machine has performed well over that last 2 years. It gets used 4 to 6 times a day in our house. I use it mostly for expresso, my wife uses it for mochas and lattes. We broke the carafe a number of months ago and Delonghi replaced it for free and sent us some free pods, so service is great. The quality of the brew is pretty good. I've done a few taste test where I compare an expresso from the machine against an espresso from my Delonghi espresso machine with freshly ground beans and a third cup from pre-ground espresso beans. The cups stack up as you'd expect, fresh ground beans from the espresso machines is the best, followed by pre-ground beans with the Nescafe espresso a close third. But we aren't talking about miles apart, we are talking about inches.If you are a coffee aficionado, then you won't like what you get, but I've honestly had worse espressos from snobby coffee houses using fresh ground beans compared to what I get from the machine. You sacrifice a little quality for a lot ease of use. Just turn on the machine, throw the pod in, then hit button. Come back a couple minutes later and you have a decent espresso waiting for you.

These days, I was trying to cut back on coffee. I have a beautiful French press I got here, but it takes a while to grind the coffee and heat the water and blah blah blah. So although it may great coffee, I found myself not having coffee when I wanted it. So I got this one after looking around probably because Amazon had a coupon that made it cheaper. And I was really impressed with all the European coffees - the espresso, all kinds of espresso, and different kinds of what appeared to be good strong coffee. So I ordered a bunch of coffee too. Most of it was coming from England and I was shocked when I realized that the coffee was getting here and Amazon had not even started to ship the coffee maker two weeks later. Living in Alaska I don't expect to get prime service but I kinda hope to get it before Christmas when I ordered it in September. So I sent an email and a nice Amazon customer service person make sure that it got in the mail immediately and actually I got today shipping which I normally don't get even though I'm a prime member.I am thrilled with this coffee. Well it is not as good as perfectly grounded French press coffee, it is darn close. I have friends I see a lot more of because they want to come over in the morning and have a cup of coffee. This kind of coffee, from this dolce gusto coffeemaker. I did have a problem originally. I turned it on to run hot water through it as the directions said and nothing happened. I had a flashing red light, no water came through and I was very very unhappy . The instruction book that came with my coffee maker said nothing about priming, which is something that apparently you have to do the first time. I just turned it off that night and the next morning I turned it on again and it had primed itself by sitting there and it worked perfectly to clean the coffee maker and then to make the coffee. And the coffee was fabulous and has been every time I have made it no matter which kind it is. The only real con that I have is that it vibrates very strongly and I have to stand there to make sure that it doesn't vibrate my coffee cup right off the machine. But since it makes the coffee in less than a minute it's not exactly a hardship.

I bought this as a gift for my Mom. I chose this one specifically because it had a excellent rating in Consumer Reports. My Mom is a daily coffee drinker & she says this is perfect because she can enjoy a fresh, single cup whenever she wants. She also says it is easy to use & easy to clean. It's also small enough that she keeps it out on her countertop; and she always has been insistent on a clear counter. The one problem is that the machine CANNOT use k-cups, which have a better selection & are more widely available. This machine uses Nesspresso cups. My Mom buys them online & the limited selection does not bother her.

I want to preface by saying it is a nice device. I read some reviews on here, and people were gushing about how you can replace Starbucks with this unit. The short response is no, you can't. You can approximate, you can get fairly close, but no combination from the device can truly replace (coffee house of choice). I figured that going in, but I still had an open mind.Beyond that, it does brew a decent cup o joe. It's still not quite bitter enough on the espresso brews, but I mean c'mon, it's not a magical device.Definitely remove at least a star because you can't find the cups in stores, and they're rather pricey. You decide if that removes more stars for you. Ultimately though, I'm glad to have it.

I have to say that I am impressed by this little guy. I have a Keurig and never expected the Dolce Gusto machine to usurp its position as my #1 Java machine. Not only is it easy to use, but the capsules that it uses taste like authentic coffee drinks from Europe. Consistent and amazing every time. This machine also comes with a voucher for a capsule box of your choice, and then Nestle sends another box, on the house. Can't beat it.

It's difficult to separate the review of the equipment from the review of the coffee since the machine would not exist but for the availability of the coffee. I've been searching a long time for decent coffee in the US and I had never heard of the Dolce Gusto system until a French friend of mine introduced me. For the record, I've tried: Illy iperEspresso capsules, Keurig K-Cups, Lavazza ECL, Lavazza Blue, Nespresso (including their new North American exclusive Virtuo line) and Tassimo. Lavazza Blue capsules blow all of the rest out of the water for espresso.... but both the machine and the capsules are near-impossible to find and the machine runs around $800.The machine worked just fine after following the instructions on running two tanks of water through the system to get it primed and ready to go. I did not experience any of the issues that other reviewers said they had. I have zero problems. The reason why it's 4 stars instead of 5 is that the vibration is a little harsh, not room shaking, but enough that you have to hold the cup in place or it will vibrate off the pedestal. Heat up time is quick (about 60-90 seconds) and then there's only 6 seconds between making cups. I also like that it shuts off after 5 minutes automatically. Also, the pods can be a little messy if you're not careful. Don't try to take the pod out of the tray, you might push liquid out of it and onto your hand and/or floor... instead just take the pod holder over to the trash bin and toss it. There are no recycle programs that I've found for this, sadly.Now, if you like a huge big gulp of coffee in the morning in a mug the size of a soup bowl, don't even bother with this, go buy a Keurig or other machine specifically geared towards American coffee. The maximum you'll get out of this is 8 ounces (for the record a standard US coffee measure is 6oz so when you're drinking your 20oz grande, you're having over 3 servings of coffee).Buying into the Dolce Gusto system means: 1) you must order online (except in a few place in California), 2) you are bound to only Dolce Gusto capsules of which there are many varieties and variations by country, 3) you'll be paying about $10 for 16 capsules if you stick to ordering from Nestle, more if you want to venture on to eBay or buy non US market capsules.I've tried almost all the espressos, both the ones available in the US and a couple from overseas. The best one is the Ristretto Ardenza .... which is not available on the US website as of this writing. The espresso intenso is drinkable, but not nearly as tasty. I could go on and on, but taste is subjective. I can only say, that Keurig lovers, Starbucks lovers will hate this machine and the coffee (and vice versa). If you're looking to replace your American drip coffee with this, you'll probably be disappointed unless you make really bad coffee yourself. This coffee is made by shooting pressure through a small quantity of coffee. I've found them to be weak and lacking flavor (doctoring them with cream and sugar only makes them worse).The milky drinks are better. But you'll want to dial back the milk or you won't taste any of the coffee. You'll have fun experimenting with the different capsules and I think everyone should find something they like, but this machine will not satisfy all categories: espresso lovers, drip coffee lovers and cappuccino/milky drink lovers. You just can't have it all!

UPDATE: I am writing to revise my previously negative review. Per below I was frustrated when the delivered machine did not pump water, and the DeLonghi customer service delivered a lower-end replacement. I decided to work through Amazon instead of the DeLonghi customer service, returned the lower-end replacement to DeLonghi, and processed a replacement through Amazon - Amazon came through! Within two days I received the correct machine that worked perfectly first time. The coffee was terrific. Amazon sent me a label to return the original broken machine to them. Lesson learned - work through Amazon first!ORIGINAL: I am really disappointed to be writing this review. When the DeLonghi Genio (EDG 455T) arrived, and I tried to make the first cup, the water would not pump through the machine. I contacted DeLonghi via their online chat to see if I was doing something wrong. The representative determined it was a defective machine and said they would send me a replacement. A week later I received a DeLonghi EDG200T that costs about $69. Of course it is now after their customer service hours on Friday and they are not available by Monday. So frustrating!

Was looking for one-cupper to augment drip coffeee maker, primarily to please family members (i'm fine w/drip maker & fresh beans). Reviewed several machines, ultimately deciding on the Dolce Gusto Genio over keurig vue, which I use at the office. My primary buying criteria was; "best tasting coffee", secondary criterion: price of coffee capsules, breadth & depth of coffee brands / flavors, ease-of-use & cost of machine itself. Although I had never experienced a Dolce Gusto cup of coffee, I read several reviews from several sites, Amazon included, with common denominator being "great tasting coffee", after owning for past 30 days,I totally agree, and without doubt, better than the keuring vue and keuring K-Cup.So far as the secondary criterions: would like to see better selection of coffee capsules; brands & flavors. Coffee capsules are bit on high-side, likely would decrease if more than Nescafe brand options (as mentioned already). Very easy to use, easy to maintain, fair price for machine & great buying experience w/Amazon, including free 3 day delivery via Prime.

I like this coffeemaker.Easy to install and to handle. Especially the "scroll" to choose the water quantity is very helpful. So you can not only make your "standard" coffee with the suggestions given for each kind of coffee (latte, espresso, longho, cappuccino....) but give more or less water to fit your own taste. Also easy to clean. The coffee choice is (until now?)not so big but for me it's enough. The coffee taste is like in a professional coffee-shop......but I am not really a specialist and "aficionado" in coffee. Nothing for "gallon" drinkers more for the occasional ones.

The first one I ordered didn't work so I had to exchange it. The one that came in It's place was a different model. But still worked. I guess I'm just disappointed in the product and the coffee variety. I have a Keurig and have had the same one for over 6 years now. It's just now starting to make a few funny noises so thought I'd try this.If you like having a sweet cappuccino, macchiato or other such beverage don't bother to get this Nescafe Dulce ...maker. Stick with your Keurig. I didn't like ANY of the cappuccino or macchiato or other coffee I received from them. They were too dark. Definitely were not sweet at all and by time you add the extra sugar or milk...the whole point of getting this is mute. Your drink doesn't look pretty with its separated layers and it's taken 3-4× longer than the same drink would in your Keurig.If you like very dark coffee drinks that are not sweet at all...even those coffees that say they are sweetened are not.. Then this would be a great machine for you. If you like sweet, light, or milky coffee straight from the machine then get or stick with your Keurig. The coffee is cheaper, tastes better, no extra work and if you are lucky like me your Keurig will last you many years. I'm writing this review almost 7 months after getting this product ...and even with its funny noises...my Keurig is still working. Keeping my fingers crossed. But if it does...I'll just hunt on eBay or somewhere else to get the same model I've had so much luck with. Happy coffee drinking!!

love the product, but getting the capsules is a pain

I bought this as a gift but the water tank was cracked. I was embarrassed. However I understand things happen. I returned it with absolutely no problems and just gave the friend cash to go buy one.

Aesthetically and functionally well designed and built machine. However like all the other single pod coffee makers produces very mediocre coffee. Effectively good only for passable milk based drinks, cappuccinos etc.

Needed to replace a K-Cup brewer and Consumer Reports and others gave the Dolce Gusto its highest rating.As others noted, coffee is not readily available in grocery stores. Check first. Ordering coffee with Amazon is fine but in a pinch, I can't pick up a box ANYWHERE locally and my local grocers have plenty of gourmet, organic, etc. coffee choices.If you like a tall cup of quality coffee (like I do) black this is not the best machine.If you like small cups (European style) and coffee drinks such as lattes, cappuccinos, and other "complicated" coffee drinks, this will justify the positive reviews.

my wife loves this as she can make a quick cup and get starbucks quality drinks. i hate starbucks and don't like the taste at all so i'm not surprised this isn't for me. she loves it and i'm opposite. it's one of those love or hate machines. she would give it 5* and i would give it a 1* so i give it a 3* overall.

This little machine is extremely easy to use and does make pretty looking coffee, but unfortunately that's all it dose. The taste of the coffee is very watery, not bitter or sweet, just tastes like watered down Starbucks, very disappointed.

Actually the machine doesn't work!something wrong with it ! the water ( hot or cold ) never comes down !i tried and talked with Nescafe in my countrybut they didn't help since the machine is different and they asked me for extra money to fix it !i want to return it back without extra money for shipmenti really disappointment !:(

We had the larger model with the bowl and it brewed coffee very well. However, this particular unit does not brew coffee very well. It only fills about half of the cup and the coffee is very weak. I purchased it for my wife and she quit using it because of the weak taste. I have the bowl unit at work and it works very good and I don't have a problem with it.

while it is a great machine for making a good cup of coffee, it started to leak water after a few months. Being under warranty, we were guaranteed a replacement. Do not know if it was a bad model or will be a problem again in the future. Also, not easy to buy the coffee pods since Keurig has corned the market. Easy to order pods with free shipping from Bed and Bath or the Dulce Gusto website but order must be over $50. That isn't a problem since you will need to buy enough if you use the machine daily. There is a great selection of different coffees.

This machine is easy to use, but is not dependable. The first one I received stopped working within 2 mos. Customer service sent me another one. This one also stopped working with the same problem - won't pick up the water and send it into the pod.I sent another one back and got the Creativa model, It works great! Easy to use, multiple settings, manual setting if you want a bigger cup. No problems. They sent it to me without extra charge (it's more expensive than the genio).Their customer service is excellent. I recommend this model without reservation.

Just spend the extra 30 bucks on a Keurig. This thing is finicky and clunky and made me maybe 3 cups of coffee. If it were 20$ I'd think about recommending it.

Machine turned on, but unable to dispense any water. Called Dolce Gusto, went through priming the machine to get the air out (lifting and lowering the water tray), tried restarting the machine a few times, but no success. The power light comes on (green), but when I press the "hot" or "cold button nothing happens (no water or sound of the pump). Dolce Gusto said it was a defective machine, and to return it. Will return machine for a full exchange. If the new machine works, I will update my review.

This was supposed to be easy to operate. I bought it for my 95 y/o mother who only drinks 1 cup of coffee a day. It was trouble from the start, instructions not clear or complete. Began leaking and spewing water after a week. Called customer service and they walked me through a few trouble shooting fixes and it then worked for aboutv3 more days and started it over again. Very disappointed.

The worst thing I buy it from Amazondevice does not work does not convey water to the capsule

Dear seller,I recived this machine a while ago.When I turn the machine on it keeps heating for about 10 seconds after that the switch turn green and stays green for only 2-3 seconds and then i have to leave the machine about 10-15 minutes to work again witch is not normal at the beginning I thought that all that time was for the machine to work is there any solutions for that otherwise I would like to return the product.

I bought Power Machinery coffee and when I received did not work I want to bring it back to you so we know what are the problemThanx
