The newer style is just round, there is absolutely no technical difference. So if you want the square version or a round version it's up to you. Not as good as Xbox's KinectDecember 4, 2015 The PS4 camera is regrettably weak compared to the Xbox Kinect camera. Unlike the adjustable stand on a Kinect, the PS4 camera is just a rectangular piece of plastic that you have to perch just right to point to you. It also feels cheap compared to the Kinect. While this device ought to just come boxed in with the PS4, the camera is helpful, if not necessary, with certain games. lifesaver for parents who want to monitor online chats by their kidsMarch 1, 2015 Got our then 10 year old son a PS4 for 2013 xmas and did not really play it a lot.. This year, he got the game Destiny and is obsessed with it once he started playing online with other kids. We did not hook up the earphones/Mike that came with the PS4, in fact didn't even realize it came with it. Anyway, so my son was playing online but could only hear other players, he could not speak to them. So he wanted to use the earphones that came with the console, but we were not comfortable with him being online without knowing who he was talking to. So I went online and ordered a multitude of microphone-only devices which ultimately did not work with the ps4 controller (there is a 3 band headphone input on the controller; the microphones I got had only 2 bands on the plug) much to the frustration of my son, so I did more research and found this. In addition to having cool features, it works perfectly for monitoring online chats and so our immediate problem is resolved. I'm giving stars because I think the price is a little high. A good camera/mic with a couple problems.August 30, 2014 It's a much improved camera with almost decent zero software to use it. It makes a great mic for me as I use desktop mics and headphones. This is the main reason I got it after Sony botched their Bluetooth mic support for whatever reason.My only main complaint is the damn shiny plastic. You would think they just wouldn't use this dogcrap material anymore. I know piano black is nice but you really need better plastic that doesn't scratch to hell if you want to use this on consumer devices. It has gotten better in the industry but for whatever reason they still use this garbage like they are doing a favor to anyone.STOP using shiny, black plastic on consumer devices! Or at least improve it. This is not the worst kind that scratches from the dust in the air lol, but I'd rather be able to hand my devices without constant fingerprints or fear of having to clean such a device. I barely touch this camera for this reason.All in all the resolution and capabilities are far beyond the first PS Camera but it's hard for anyone to know when you basically have zero software to use this with in the way of Sports Champions or some other game capable of making true love with the camera. For now this thing is totally pointless unless you need a desktop mic like me.When Sports Champions 3 comes out, will it ever?, then this thing will be a nice product to have. For now Sony has totally abandoned the Move and Camera as they get other things up to speed. Okay in bright light, not so good in low lightJanuary 7, 2014 The camera works well enough in bright light, but doesn't handle low light that well. The resolution isn't HD, which is disappointing, but it's better than the PS3 camera.The microphone is pretty good and the PS4 can usually can understand me when I give it commands. A negative is that the camera's microphone can't be turned off so if you are playing a game anything anyone says in the room will be sent over the chat, as well as the game audio. I believe turning off PS4 voice commands will disable the microphone, but I'm not sure. Currently the only sure file way I've found to turn off the microphone in the camera is to plug in a microphone into the controller. I like it, but.....December 11, 2013 So the PS4 camera.. Its definitely a good looking product. Easy to setup and adds a few features but honestly not much as of yet. Outside of the playroom which seems to be truly in an infant stage it has limited capability. I would like to see more from it in the future... will have to wait and see. My only major complaint about it and warning to all is that the camera is always on looking for voice commands. This isnt a big deal but if you play online games the mic from the camera will function as a ingame mic and broadcast you voice or any other sounds. It took me a while to notice this and when i did i had to sit back and think about what may have been overheard while i wasnt aware. I have tried turning off voice commands in the settings menu but that did not seem to stop it. The only fix aside from using a real headset is to unplug the camera. This is kind of upsetting really. Sucks to have to do this all the time.As for the other part about using a real headset... if you link the ps4 wired headset it will take over voice input. Then all you gotta do is hit the mute button on the headset to stop broadcasting. This is another fix but another inconvenient one. My point is that its kind of a waste to have it yet have to apply a bandaid (real headset) or unplug it to achieve what should be a simple desired result.Final point i got is that facial recognition does want you to sit a good 3 feet or more from the camera. Kinda sucks if you do most your gaming at a desk such as me. You find yourself leaning way back in you chair when ever its looking for you. | | | | |

| A sorta cool piece of tech you probably will not use.May 7, 2017 There is nothing inherently wrong with the PS4 camera. There is also nothing very compelling about the PS4 camera. It is not used for many games. Moreover, it does not add a ton of functionality to your ps4. The speech commands do not seem to work very well. However, I have not used this camera for streaming on Twitch or Youtube (I think this is part of its functionality). So, if I streamed video game content perhaps I would find the camera more compelling. However, there isn't much to do with the camera so far. They PS4 comes installed with a few mini games, but after a hour playing it all you most likely won't ever go back to it. The quality of the camera wasn't as sharp as I thought it was going to be, but I do have a 60inch, so maybe my screen is too big? I don't know I was just expecting High Definition.It just started doing voice commands. So you can say "Playstation", then "Killzone", then you can start it. Turn off the system with your voice. Just real simple things. When you first turn on the PS4 you can have it recognize your face. But the camera has to pick up the light bar on the controller and you have to have good lighting for it to work. It's just easier to click on the user.The camera comes with a neat little rubber think that can bend and hang onto the top of your television. Other than that it's just a camera with no real games for it. I think Just Dance came out, but from what I read, the game isn't that good with the camera at all, so if you don't get that game, the camera will be collection dust until something else comes. Hopefully there will be more games to come, but there is no rush into getting it. It’s a lot less bulky than the Kinect and can be mounted on your TV with ease. Speaking of the mount, I find it quite impressive. You can bend the mount to snugly fit your TV’s bezel or you can even twist it around a bit and use it as a stand for the camera.Image quality: The image quality is very good in light but quite grainy in low light. However, it picks up the depth of your room very well.Voice commands: Funnily enough, the PS Camera responded better to my voice commands than the Kinect! Works close to flawless.Software: So far I’ve tried out the Playroom. | Not utilized by the PS4 to be worth the moneyAugust 23, 2016 I bought this primarily to scan my face into NBA 2K, but had hopes that it would be used for more than that. At this point, I don't really see the purpose of the product and haven't used it in over a year. Ugh...frustrating!December 4, 2015 loses track of people constantly, falls off the tv, doesn't recognize people easily. Overall, a big hassle and too much time wasted trying to adjust settings. If it gets too dark/light it has to be fixed same if the person moves too much.
