Amazing way to use FoodSaver
January 30, 2017
Amazing way to use FoodSaver. Great alternative to the expensive containers and bags. Just fill a mason jar, place the lid (not the ring), apply the sealer, place the aux tube from the food saver and hit go. A half cut avocado will last for days and be just like the day you cut it.
Works amazingly well—I find myself using it every day!
March 5, 2016
I had modest expectations for this attachment, but ordered one in hopes of being able to seal up wide mouthed mason jars so I can carry soup a little more securely to work in my knapsack, as well as keeping foods better in the fridge or freezer. I was amazed to see how well it works in creating a seal! I can use half an avocado and seal up the other half in a jar to keep for days, perfectly green. Soup stays nice and secure in the jar with no leaks. I can blend up a big batch of smoothies with bananas and fruit and it stays good in the jars for a couple days (no discoloration). I actually find that I'm using it just about every day, far more often than I seal up bags with the FoodSaver! The only mild inconvenience is that after you seal up a jar, if you just leave the FoodSaver on and the hose attached, eventually the red light starts blinking (some kind of error?) and you have to unplug it. It would be even better if you could just leave it plugged in, and seal up a jar with the press of a button! But needing to unplug it and plug it back in is a very minor annoyance.
Works like a charm.

Works like a charm. I bought a ziploc manual pump like the one that is sold for use with the ziploc bags and can vacuum seal mason jars with no electricity or without dragging out a big vacuum sealer machine. Quick and easy to get into dry foods regularly and keep them sealed tight with little fuss.
FoodSaver Jar Sealers Are Wonderful!
May 27, 2014
Jar Sealers are a great investment!I love the FoodSaver mason jar sealers, and I give them an unreserved 5 stars.I have switched to using mason jars to vacuum seal all kinds of dry goods; coffee, flours, spices, grains, nuts etc. I have both the wide and regular mouth jar sealers, and both of them work great!Using a mason jar instead of the plastic bags for dry goods and refrigerated wet ingredient storage is easier on your wallet and better for the environment. Of course for frozen foods, cheeses, and moist refrigerated items, I still prefer the bags; but for anything else, vacuum sealed mason jars are the way to go.I would highly recommend this product to anyone who has a FoodSaver vacuum sealer.PROs:Allows users to vacuum seal and store items in wide range of reusable mason jar sizes and shapes.Removes air and leaves an air tight vacuum seal.CONS:Small mouth jar sealer rubber gasket comes loose after every use and must be reinserted into plastic sealing cup.NOTES:Mason jar lid gaskets and jar rims must be kept clean and dry to ensure a proper seal. Any liquid, oil, or other debris either on the lid gasket or jar rim can mean you will not be able to achieve and air tight seal. The gasket on the inside of the plastic sealer cup needs to be inserted into the plastic cup with the open or trench side facing downwards, that would be facing the floor when the sealing cup is placed on the jar.For a proper seal ensure the bottle has at least one inch of space between the lid and the item you are trying to seal. Ensure the lid gasket and jar lip are clean, dry, and free of debris. Next place the lid on the jar. Seat the sealing cup firmly on top of the jar and lid. Attach the FoodSaver accessory hose, and depress the Accessory button on your FoodSaver. If you fail to get a good seal, ensure the jar rim and seal or clean, or try a new lid as the rubber gasket can become dry and cracked with age.
The solution to all my kitchen problems!
October 3, 2013
My household is just me and my fussy little boy, so I have big problems with cooking and portion sizes. I don't like to prepare small amounts from scratch for each meal, or eat the same thing over and over again for 3 days. I also had a lot of difficulty in buying cheaper, bulk foods. I bought the Foodsaver handheld vacuum to be able to buy and store coffee in bulk, but soon realized that it could help with my wider food storage issues.I wasn't very impressed with the bags - they worked well once I got the hang of them (jiggling the nozzle around to get the seal), but they are very limited in terms of what you can store. Ditto the included plastic box, which is very shallow and holds little. But (many, many) thanks to a fellow reviewer of the handheld vacuum, I discovered the joys of the compatible this jar sealer.I started with a set of wide-mouth half-gallon mason jars and found that I could store just anything in them, including salad, fresh veggies and meats, stews, you name it. So I went out and bought tons more smaller mason jars. It's a particular boon for salad as I almost NEVER got through a box without it going slimy. Of course, after a few days it's not at a perfect level of freshness, but it's still absolutely great. I also love the fact that we are talking glass rather than plastic, which apart from the BPA issue is so much healthier for the environment. Plus the jars are stackable and occupy little space in your fridge, making everything much tidier. The only downside is that it can be a little painstaking getting some items (eg salad) through the neck of the jar, but it is completely worth it. Others have also mentioned that you don't know when the vacuuming process is complete, but I don't really agree - the sound of the motor gets lower and lower (if it doesn't you know you didn't position the nozzle correctly), and when you take it off you have to pull a little to release the seal. The vacuum and jar sealer have completely revolutionized my kitchen and allowed me to buy bulk foods at better prices. I'm eternally grateful to the other reviewer for pointing it out!ps. Anyone want a bunch of mason jar rings? I don't know what to do with them because you just don't need them with the powerful seal you get using this!
These are awesome once you learn the trick of how to use them
April 25, 2012
I have both sizes of these jar sealers (regular and wide-mouth) and really love them.Everything gets sealed into mason jars at my house. From dry goods like nuts and coffee beans which last forever fresh until needed, to liquids like bulk cooking oils. If it fits into the jar it can be sealed up to stay fresh for ages.Sealing in a mason jar is so handy I do not even use the plastic bags any more. They are expensive and failure-prone. Once you get the trick of how to use the lid-sealer it is nearly foolproof.Just make sure that the lip of the jar is not contaminated with whatever you are sealing up and it will do a good job.The trick is to remove the hose from the top of the jar sealer the INSTANT the pump stops running. If you wait even a couple of seconds you lose a lot of vacuum and the seal will not be as good. It's the air pressure of the atmosphere that pushes the lid down onto the lip of the jar and if you don't get the air pressure back into the lid sealer it can't push down on that lid. Just grab the hose at the top when you hear the motor of the pump start to sound like it almost done with the vacuum cycle and wait. When it stop just YANK that hose out fast to let air into the top cavity and allow the lid to slam down on the jar. That's all there is to it.I've bought extras of these to give away and everyone loves them (once they learn how to use them correctly.)Keep an eye on the blue seal inside. Sometimes it can pop out and you have to put it back in. If you put it in upside down it won't work well.I use these nearly every day in the kitchen and the tops last years of such use. I highly recommend these for just about any use you can think up for them.

Great, but the small sealer requires putting another lid ...
March 13, 2017
Great, but the small sealer requires putting another lid in it - upside down - for it to work properly without removing the lid when you remove the sealer.
then allowing your Food Saver to suck all the air out
July 21, 2016
No, this will not replace the canning process. But it does help keep dry foods fresh longer. For instance, I dried red raspberry leaves for making tea. I don't drink this tea very often, so my stash of dried leaves will last me a while. It is as simple as putting the lid on the jar, snapping this attachment on, then allowing your Food Saver to suck all the air out. I even found out that my machine did not need an additional hose (oops, after I had already purchaed it). It was dissapointing to find that I do have a set of 8 oz jelly jars that this lid will not form a tight seal with. I believe those are quilted Better Homes and Gardens short and stocky jelly jars. Guess it means I'll have to reserve those for just canning, and use one of the others in my stash :)
I like to make my own stocks for cooking
March 15, 2016
I've had my foodsaver for over a year, and use it regularly. I didn't realize when I got the machine, this was an option and ordered the Wide mouth version. This required me to purchase wide mouth caning jars. I have several sizes to store beans, rice, etc. I recently learned you can freeze liquids in glass jars (probably everyone else knows this). We buy a marinara sauce from Costco that comes in Atlas/mason jars which are regular mouth size, which is why I bought this. Why buy more jars when you've already bought them? I like to make my own stocks for cooking, and now I store them in 1.5 pint wide mouthed jars as they taper upwards so it's easy to get the stock out without it having to be completely thawed. I used to make stock, cool it in the refer, skim it then put it in rubbermade type containers to mold it, freeze it and then put it in food saver bags. One batch of stock would take 28" of bag material, so it used it up pretty quick. Plus I like storing things in glass more than plastics. The only reason I gave it only 4 stars, is that the rubber seal inside the unit comes off when you pull the item off the jar. It's not a big thing, but if you are doing a lot of jars at a time it could be an issue. I don't know if there's an adhesive to fix this. I've not had a problem with it not sealing unless you use two lids like other reviewers have had. I did find, that if you do not take the adapter unit out of the top of the sealer, it will pull the lid off, if you can get it off. Still not a big issue. I hope you find this helpful. Now to go look at Good Will for more jars.
This "sucker" works fine!
February 28, 2016
This is the second unit I've had. I use it with the FoodSaver V2244 to seal mason/ball jars I put fresh slow-pressed juice I make, to keep them fresh for a few hours. The combination of this jar sealer and the system work well together, and though sometimes the rubber seal in the jar sealer comes out when you remove it after vacuum sealing the jar, it's easy to replace.
Works great but could have issues.
November 12, 2015
I got this for sealing my dehydrated goods into mason jars. I don't have a FoodSaver, however, I use a brake line vacuum pump instead, which doesn't require electricity :). I like that it's so easy to use, however, when you remove this sealer cap, the blue rubber seal comes out and must constantly be put back in. That's not a big issue, as the gasket seal does remove and replace easily. It just worries me that it might start breaking down. I searched for replacement gaskets and couldn't find any, so that probably means you have to purchase a whole new sealer kit if the gasket wears out.
Works great, with a few tricks
September 28, 2013
This is a very useful product. I cannot get it to seal jars consistently without a couple tricks, however. If two lids are placed on top of a jar instead of one before applying the jar sealer, it will seal consistently. The only issue with this method is, once in a while both lids will be stuck on the jar. Most of the time the second lid comes off when the jar sealer is removed, but once in a while the second lid stays put.A better method I found is to pull my Foodsaver's extension tube out of the jar sealer, just prior to my Foodsaver finishing it's cycle and releasing its vacuum. If I do this, which is easy enough, the jars are sealed consistently. Despite its minor quirks, this is a great product and definitely worth owning if you have Foodsaver machine and some regular-mouth mason jars.I knocked one star off of this product because I also own the wide-mouth version, and that version works consistently without any little tricks to facilitate jar sealing.

BEWARE
May 15, 2017
I really like how this works BUT even following the directions for leaving headroom in the jar, some liquid was sucked up into the tube. Because I have a model with the attached accessory hose, I know have to send the ENTIRE machine in to get it replaced. I wouldn't bother except that I've purchased a bunch of product that requires the accessory attachment. Aaaargh!
Broke my machine.
September 6, 2016
It worked the first time I used it then never again. Upon closer inspection today I see that when I inserted the tube into my sealer it cracked the grey plastic ring and can no longer form a seal. Now my entire sealer is broken, the only way I can get it to marginally work is to press my thumb against the hole to seal it.Update: I ended up buying a new machine and have successfully used this several times. I'm still apprehensive about the fittings and how they connect to the machine. I would recommend the nozzle you stick into the machine be made of softer plastic or even rubber so there's no risk of breaking the plastic ring on the sealer.
Not great.
August 11, 2016
I bought this to seal little jelly jars but it pulls the lids off when you try to remove it. I've been using the wide mouth sealer for years and it's worked great. I did try this on a larger jar and it worked but I guess there isn't enough vacuum in the little jars to keep the lid holding firm.
Great seal when it works, but only seals properly 1 out of 3-4 attempts. UPDATE: Add second lid to resolve this little glitch
July 24, 2015
When I can get this product to work, it's great. The problem is that I usually have to run the vacuum cycle 2-3 times in succession to get a proper seal.UPDATE:After taking a tip from the comment on the original version of this post, I have figured out how to get it working.Apparently if you take a second lid, place it on top of the first lid and THEN use the jar sealer, it will work. Just tried this on 7 jars and every single one sealed without any issue. While this is fantastic and saves me a lot of time and frustration, it's still a pain because the top lid seals to the bottom lid, and they're somewhat difficult to separate.... and should not be necessary. Original score is staying as-is, but wanted to update this review to hopefully help anyone else having this same issue.
Works fine, but the instructions won't get you there
January 12, 2015
The instructions that come with the jar sealer are insufficient. I struggled to get this device to actually seal a jar lid. After watching YouTube videos and reading reviews, here's what I have found will work: Carefully clean both the lip of the jar and the lid's sealing surface. Place the jar sealer device down over the lid, being careful not to dislodge the lid. Now, push VERY HARD down onto the jar sealing device to get the mechanism to engage (this critical step is not in the instructions I received). Attached your FoodSaver vacuum line and let it finish the work. This device really does work well IF you know how to use it. It would have gotten 4 stars if I had not become so frustrated when learning to use it.
Unlike the large wide mouth sealer...
April 28, 2014
This sealing lid's insides keeps getting pulled out after an attempt at sealing a jar with this it. I really wanted this one to work, I even had a couple of jars to be sealed by the time this arrived. I had to try this for myself and felt the loss was affordable enough just so I could know for myself. I purchased oxygen absorbers along with it just in case the rumors were true.Like another reviewer stated the rubberized piece on the inside comes right out, but the same with the white surrounding part at the base, it just "comes apart" as soon as the red light comes on.So it seems to have sealed, but its in pieces when you are done. I heard rumors that the regular mouth sealing lid doesn't work as well as the wide mouth, and I have the wide one and it works great.Welp, this experiment seals one thing, "the deal" (which) from here on out buying only the wide mouth jars verses the regular ones.I do have quite a few cases of the regular mouth though and I wanted to get use of being able to seal them without having to buy oxygen absorbers to do so.That's a "no go" it seems. All the negative buzz about the regular sealing lid out there seems true. So I will stick to wide mouth jars (and wide mouth sealer) only since I can get away with sealing them by all the methods available without the additional cost of oxygen absorbers. Keeping it simple.

The large jar sealer is fantastic. The small is not
April 16, 2017
The large jar sealer is fantastic. The small is not. It only seals about half the time. Sometimes adding a second lid gets it to seal.
Not working for me.
February 8, 2017
I can't seem to get it to work. The lid is always stays in the cap. I'm going to try again later today. If it doesn't work then I will send it back.
Food saver regular mouth jar sealer
January 26, 2017
This is the second regular mouth jar sealer I have purchased and it will not seal the jars. Very unfortunate.

Works great for vacuum sealing jarsEdit: after just a little use the hose adapter end that plugs in to the machine broke making it unusable unless I spend another 6.50 for a new hose
Works but not if you follow instructions.
December 22, 2015
I went online to request a return and found other comments from dissatisfied buyers. I never had any problems with using the large lid sealer, so I ordered the regular-mouth sealer to try it on smaller jars. It works, but not if you follow the instructions from the manufacturer. Most of the FoodSaver machines seal, then release pressure. Because the lid is so much smaller, that suck/blow cycle seals the lid and then unseals it. Frustrating! The trick is to yank out the hose plug after it sucks and before it goes into blow mode. Now that it works I'm keeping it, but the engineering on this little item really sucks... yes, that was intended.
Not near as good as Wide mouth but it does the job
October 4, 2015
It does what it is supposed to, it seals jars. The one I got though... the rubber flap seal ring come out and stays on the jar almost every time. It is also harder to seat on the jar+lid combo than my wide mouth one. I compared the rubber ring flap seal things from both of them and the wide mouth one has a much different shape, the biggest difference on the wide mouth is a smooth curve on the edge that contacts the jar, whereas this regular mouth one has an angled surface with a slight ridge on it. My wide mouth one is great, I use it at least twice a day, every day, five stars. This regular mouth one is about 1 year newer production and is just annoying, but it does do the job...

This is my second Regular mouth jar sealer. Because ...
September 23, 2017
This is my second Regular mouth jar sealer. Because my wide mouth sealer works so well I thought my first one was just a lemon. I bought another (a year later) and it's still a dud. It doesn't seal well and then when I remove the sealer the blue silicone ring inside comes off of the sealer - every time!I'm using it in the same way I use the large mouth sealer, but it just doesn't seal.
Stopped s working after a couple of uses !
June 22, 2017
This worked awesomely the first few times, but then it stopped creating a seal. It will not create a seal and suction any longer. I have cleaned and dried it, but to no avail. Frustrated!
Not pleased with the Regular Jar Sealer
February 25, 2017
I should have payed attention to the reviews....the regular mouth jar sealer just doesn't seal like the wide mouth jar sealer. Don't waste your money. Buy wide mouth jars only for use with your Food Saver.
Please don't waste your money like I did
December 18, 2016
I guess I thought that I would be one of the lucky ones who this product actually worked well for. I managed to get about 10 jars done before the cheap connections broke and the product was rendered useless.Foodsaver needs to stick with vacuum sealing bags and get away from containers and jars. I have tried them all and the bag sealing works great. Anthing that works with the accessory port has been a big miss.
DOES NOT SEAL LID TO JAR!
October 9, 2016
This is the second time I have purchased this item. I just assumed the first one I received was just defective. WRONG! Every single time I seal the jar the seal is broken by the blue ring inside the sealer. The product seals 1 out of 25 jars. Very disappointing.
Didn't work - hope they fix so I can repurchase
April 27, 2016
Never worked. Used as described on numerous mason jar tops & different jars to see if I could get it to vacuum seal. I LOVE my foodsaver and have been a huge advocate of vacuum sealing to all my friends & family. I have the bottle stoppers and other attachments that are great. However, I knew I was taking a risk on this attachment by reading other reviews - seemed to be hit or miss but I've always had good luck on mixed review items. Until now... Returned item for refund. However, if they can figure out the issue with the product I would definitely purchase in the future. Given how great the other foodsaver products are I'm sure they'll sort out this manufacturing issue. I just hope it's sooner rather than later.
