Great for barbers!!!
June 30, 2017
I am a professional barber, therefore my use for this product is somewhat different than the average user. I use these for bald fading during my haircuts, not for shaving the client's face. I am a firm believer that nothing can substitute a straight razor shave, however this electric razor comes pretty close.I can say that they are excellent for what I use them for. Previously I have used the Braun series 3, Braun series 5, Whal electric shaver, and the Andis electric shaver. The Panasonic Arc 3 is my favorite so far.The shaver feels like a quality product, and although I have not used it in wet conditions yet, it is nice to know that the option is there, which is not available in the Whal or Andis. The Arc 3 also gets much closer and catches more hair than others I've used. The display for battery life is nice, and so far the battery uses about 10% per 7-8 minutes. Not too shabby since it charges quickly. Its a winner, Enjoy!
Best Electric Shaver I have ever owned! Forget those floating head shavers forever! Charges Fast!
May 6, 2017
This shaves the closest of any electric shaver I have ever owned, I bought an expensive Norelco floating head one and it pinched my face and I hated going around in circles over and over again. My beard is harder to shave than a thick beard because I have a full beard, but the hair is fine and feathery and hard to shave because it doen't stand up and lays flat. This does the trick and it is good for getting close to my mustache and borders, where a floating head shaver can't. I like the built in trimmer too. I don't even use the faucet to clean it some times. I just get a paper plate and tap the outer screen head to clean that and tap the body a little on the side to get the hairs off onto the paper plate. Tip: If you use the faucet, it goes faster cleaning or blowing the shavings ot first to get the majority out before the faucet. It charges super fast! Cons: I wish it came with a little cleaning brush, but I saved mine from the floating head shaver I threw out! Well worth the money. I was looking at another brand cheaper model , but after the reviews , I am glad I bought this one because other brands say they pinch. All good! Even it it dies after awhile, it will still be worth the money for a close shave. I use a Wet Ones hand wipe on my face before shaving and it gets the oils off my face and makes for a smooth shave without razor itch or skin irritation.
great razor

I am going to give you the skinny that no one seems to want to talk about this.... women and men like to shave their pubic hair its why I bought it. I am a woman and I like a close shave. it only works well if you use it regularly meaning if the hair is beyond its realm it cannot cut it,,,but if you like to do that it will give you a very close soft shave thats more maintenance than I wanted it for I kept it because it actually works perfectly for my facial hair....my facial hair is blond peach fuzz thats to long for my comfort,,, and it doesn't shave down to the skin,, but for a woman my age any aggressive shaving drys the skin out and I didn't need any more things making me look older than I am.... it cuts the hair to a soft non prickly level,,, no one can see the hair I have as it is all blond,,and it cuts it short enough that I don't feel the need to constantly tweeze hair like i use to,,, but mostly it also keeps my skin from drying out so
Shaves super close and has good battery life.
February 7, 2017
Wow! I have used this 2 or 3 times and it shaves amazingly well. It quickly gets me a very close shaver and doesn't miss many hairs. It did not cut my skin at all too. I love that you can just clean it by running water through it, and it has a mode where you take off the top and the blades vibrate to clear debris as you run water through it. After doing so, the shaver gets as clean as new.The battery life is good as well. It takes about 1 hours to charge and gives you about 40 minutes of running time. I shaved 2 times, and I still have 60 percent battery left. I like that the lcd screen tells you the battery life in a percentage. The lcd screen also has an icon that pops up when the shaver is getting too clogged and needs to be cleaned like how I mentioned above. For about 10 years, I have trouble with wet shavers like mach 3s and such. I would always break out because they cut the hairs below the surface of the skin, and the hairs would poke into my skin as they grew. I just recently bought a 10 dollar vivitar shaver, and I learned that foil shavers do not make me break out since they cut above the skin. The vivitar missed huge patches of hair on my face though. This panasonic shaver barely misses a hair and gets nearly as close as when I shaved with a mach 3, and best of all, I no longer break out afterwards.I shaved dry myself, but this shaver does allow you to shave wet too. I don't see the point personally, as the shave is super close when dry, and you dont have to deal with putting shaving cream everywhere.I will update this review if anything fails or I notice any big flaws with this shaver in the future. It it continues working as it's working now, I will be very happy!
Smoooooth and fast! Makes a great women's shaver.
April 8, 2016
I'm so happy to have finally bought this gizmo. Don't know why I waited this long to try it as a women's shaver. Have used the Panasonic - Close Curves Wet/Dry Women's Shaver, but it's totally useless. Then switched to my husband's electric shaver, and it quit after working inefficiently for a year. This Panasonic Arc3 gave me a smooth shave without cutting my skin - and that too on the dry setting. Can't wait to try the wet setting.I can actually touch my skin and feel nothing but smoothness. And it is very fast - no need to bend in the shower for an endless and ineffective shave. Hope it performs as good after regular use. It is a bit noisy though, but I guess it needs to work hard to perform well :)
Yes, it's for women too!
March 21, 2016
I'm a woman and I've been using women's electric shavers forever. Mostly for the bikini area and sometimes legs. I've never been very happy with any of them and most of them "bite" the skin to some degree or other and cause pain and bleeding, some worse than others. After some research I found out that shavers with higher RPMs (above 10,000) will do less "biting" so I looked around at women's shavers to find one with high RPMs and I discovered that they don't even tell you the RPMs on women's shavers. I think this is because the RPMs on women's shavers are incredibly low. Anyhow, I just ordered this men's electric shaver and it is the most amazing shaver ever! If shavers are cars we women have been driving the Flintstones car and I just upgraded to a Mercedes Benz. I will never buy another women's electric shaver again!I was afraid that men's shavers would be huge and bulky (it's not), or be difficult to manouver in the bikini area (it's not). Out of the box women's shaver typically needs to charge overnight but this shaver charged in an hour. When I turned it on it was much quieter than a woman's shaver. I learned quickly that you need to use the pop up beard trimmer to trim down long hairs and shape the bikini area first and then use the foil shaver to get a smooth finish. I think it took me 1/3 the time I normally take to shave since I didn't have to go over and over the same area. Just FYI, the beard trimmer is amazing for sculpting and getting a clean line. I don't know about the longevity of this shaver yet but I will try to update this review in a year or so and let you know.SHAME ON YOU Panasonic, Braun, & Remington for cheating women out of a great, pain free shave!Women, get out of the Stone Age and start shaving in the 21st century. I promise you won't regret it. And if you're a man, buy your woman this shaver, she'll love you for it.

First impressions
September 9, 2017
This review is based on my first use.Not too bad at all. Much better than the Panasonic travel wet/dry shaver (as one would hope for triple the price). Now for the details.Pros:• Lightweight, smaller than I expected. Could be considered a con if you like the feeling of something weighty in your hand.• Pivoting head action is very smooth, and seems to help a great deal. It can be locked too if you prefer.• Charges relatively quick and consumes battery economically. Shaved longer than usual and only ten percent of the battery was used.• Cuts very close for an electric razor. Only left a little visible stubble on the sides of my chin.• The shave was quite comfortable. No pulled hairs.• The flip out detailer is a nice bonus.• It's self cleaning capability is AMAZING. I cannot emphasize how much I love this feature, I think it's my favorite thing about it so far. It's incredibly easy, and it really does look brand new afterwards.Cons:• It does not cut as close as a standard razor, which to be fair is almost a given for any electric razor. It left a few small patches I had to clean up with a Gillette Mach 3.• It did give me a few nicks but they weren't painful, however this is probably because I had some preexisting bumps from my last use of a standard razor, so I won't quite hold it against this new one yet.• Despite the aforementioned complications, I will not judge this razor too harshly because the manufacturer includes a disclaimer that it make take a few weeks for your face and beard to acclimate to the new experience.• It's a little loud.• So far, it seems to work better used wet than dry, which isn't really too much of an issue unless you're running late for something.Summary:Seems to be a quality product and for the first use, well I have experienced much worse. (Like rotary shavers. Ugh I hate those).I will update this review after more usage so I can offer a more accurate review of it's performance over time, and will include my recommendation of whether or not it's worth the buy. So far so good, we'll see how it goes from here.UPDATE 9/14/17Still gives some irritation but no bleeding nicks anymore. Still seems to work better wet than dry. It's gets really hot while using it which is kinda annoying. Still not cutting close enough or consistent enough on the neck for my liking.UPDATE 9/18/17Just used it again for I think the 5th time. Has a slight propensity to draw blood but it's not painful and probably my fault for pressing too hard. This was the best use yet. I shaved with cream and got a razor like close shave with far more comfort. If this trend continues I will be very very pleased with this product. Updating to 4 stars at this point in time.
Bald beauties unite!
June 13, 2017
I've always cut my hair with clippers and no guard (0.5mm). It was time I go bald so I did a bit of research and foil shavers seem to get the best shave. The replacement foil and blades are pretty cheap for this model compared to the more expensive ones. I have sensitive skin and after using it for a few days there is no irritation at all! How close does it get? If I rub my hand with the grain, I don't feel any stubble. Against the grain there is some. You can spend some time going over the same spot but it's never going to compare to a razor but it gets damn close. I tried shaving dry, shaving cream, and in the shower. Using shaving cream is the best, it allows the shaver to glide more easily. It takes me about 10-15 minutes to shave my head. That will get the battery down to 70-80% so you get about 4 shaves on a single charge.I gave it 4/5 stars because it can't be used while it's plugged in.
Panasonic
March 31, 2017
Tried this after using Norelco for many years. Seems like my last couple of Norelcos were not well made, with the last one lasting only two years. This seems like better quality. Cuts just as well, probably better on my face, but a little more difficult to use on the neck vs a rotary. The only negative is that it's more difficult to clean the screen and blades. Overall, though, I'm very happy with it. Docked it a point because I do have to go back and forth on my neck a few times in different directions to get it done.
Excellent but don't expect blade shave closeness
March 11, 2017
I would honestly give this 4.5 stars if I could because I really like it a lot but think there is a little room for improvement with cutting quality.I received this razor as a holiday gift after picking it out for myself. I've used disposable razors for years and it's been a while since I have had a rechargeable model. I like having a pretty clean look but find with a manual razor that I tend to blow it off fairly often. The other reason it was a good time to try one was because of some upcoming medical treatments and I really wasn't supposed to shave with a blade during that time. So it was a good time to pick one up.The manufacturer options were pretty clear - Panasonic or Braun - or if I wanted to consider a rotary model I could go Norelco. I have always been a Panasonic fan as their products are always top quality and last a long time, so with no other clear reason in the ratings to go with the others I went with Panasonic and this model. My single minor hangup I have with this model is that it is far from a 'single pass' type of razor where you only have to sweep past each area once and you are done. I don't know if those even exist but I knew by the ratings that this one definitely didn't do that. I also read reviews of many other models and it didn't seem like paying much more was going to make that much of a difference. I would not consider my beard coarse and manly but I certainly need to shave every day for work. There was a note with the instructions that said to be sure to use the razor daily for a month to allow your beard to adjust to it. I don't know if it actually does adjust or not, but I think they just don't want you to give up to fast if you aren't satisfied. To some it up, it takes me about as long to shave with this than it does for me to shave with a razor. I have to go over each area multiple times. I don't have the best eye sight without my glasses and occasionally my wife has pointed out spots under my chin out of sight that I completely missed. We laugh it off and I try to be more careful. The big difference between this and razors is that I won't risk cutting myself with this, razors are EXPENSIVE, and I can do this completely dry if I choose. Did I mention that razors are EXPENSIVE??So I've now used this virtually every day now for a couple months and have always used it dry at the sink. I think I have used a razor again once or twice and it did feel nice to get a nice clean shave with a razor but it wasn't enough for me to go back to it on a daily basis. I would definitely use a razor for an important event like a wedding or something like that. Before writing this review though, I decided I better at least try it with shaving cream and see if any improvement in performance. Basically I didn't notice anything and if anything it was a little harder to see if I missed anywhere. I tried with both Edge gel and Barbasol foam side by side and the Edge did slightly better. I also tried it in the shower but to me the noise of the water made it hard to hear if I was actually hitting hairs like I can at the sink. I also had no mirror in the shower, lol. So not sure that was a fair test. All in all though, I think I will stick to dry.It seems built well and charges quickly. The battery status and charging status are visible on the display in 10% increments (i.e. 10%, 20%, 30%,etc). I typically average using about 10% of the battery per shave so I need to charge it every 10 days or so. Cleaning is VERY EASY and I recommend doing it at each charge if not every other charge. Takes about 30 seconds and comes out looking like new when done and restores peak performance.I will note that some of the reviews mention that Norelco rotaries gave a closer shave than the Panasonic type. Maybe they would work better for me but I really like this setup for my needs and have no plans to change.
Quieter, effective, lasting charge, but slightly bulkier
December 5, 2015
I've had this now for a couple months of daily use. It works as expected. Noise level is lower than other units I have owned in the past, noise is higher pitched. Seems to oscillate at a higher frequency than my past units. Lasts for several days (7-10) between uses, no complaints. Display of remaining charge is handy, never had that before and didn't think I'd bother to even look - though I can't comment on whether it's accurate, as I just plug it in when it says it's at 10% or less. My impression is that it doesn't recharge *super*-fast, but probably at an acceptable rate. The shave closeness is decent, but of course this is relatively new. This shaving head of this unit acts is spring cushioned, so it "gives" when you shove it up against your face. I actually don't like that -- personal preference -- because in general I am pretty good at holding the unit and applying pressure to my liking with these high fidelity peripherals I have called "hands". When I want to bear down with the shaver, I don't really need it second guessing me and yielding. But not a deal-breaker, and this unit has a "lock" you can engage to eliminate the spring motion. To recharge, you use a conventional cord. I find this bulky compared to some previous panasonics I had that used a no-cord wall wart on top of which the shaver plugged in directly. But I can see a cord being better for travel or where there isn't room above the wall socket to have the shaver standing. Thus, a cord is probably a better option - just don't like having a cord draped across the counter like that. Again, personal preference. By the way, this shaver's head portion is noticeably larger than other units I have had in the past, making it slightly more bulky in your travel toiletry bag; noticeably bulkier I have to say.
Great shaver. Battery could last longer.
September 22, 2015
I've used this model (with different model numbers) for about 20 years. It has always given me a great close shave. The latest model I recently replaced was a Panasonic ES8043 that I used for several years. During that time, I replaced the blades and foil a couple of times. That shaver gave me 5 to 6 shaves before needing a charge, but I could tell the motor and battery were starting to wear.About a month ago, I purchased the current incarnation of the Panasonic shaver, the Arc 3 ES8103S. I first noticed it was a bit lighter in my hands than the previous Panasonic shavers. And of course, the illuminated LCD display replaces the two red and green battery indicator lights.Pros:- As with all of the Panasonic ES 8 series shavers I have used, I still get the great, close and comfortable shave.- Really like the LCD display. I was used to the two indicator lights, but the display is great.- Easy to clean. I always cleaned my shavers once per week. The LCD indicator is a great addition.- Charging. The charger is smaller than others I used, and it seems like it charges faster.Cons:- The battery. I only get about 4 shaves with this shaver versus 5-6 with the previous versions of Panasonic shavers I've used. This may not be a Panasonic problem, and I don't know if the LCD screen draws more power than the older indicator lights. Battery technology doesn't seem to be improving with all electronic devices at all.Overall, this is a great shaver. I won't be changing any time soon.- UPDATE -October 22, 2015I've had this shaver for about a month. Still a great shave. However, the battery only lasts for 4 shaves before needing a charge. The two previous Panasonic shavers I owned lasted for 5-6 shaves before needing a charge (the same model, but different model numbers). I'll try and check back in to advise if the batter life decreases in the next few months.

April 7, 2017
I purchase this shaver just under a year ago. Although it charges quickly and provides a nice shave, I've been a little disappointed with a couple other things. First, I don't get as many shaves per charge as I'd hoped (maybe 5-6). Second, the display has started to fail. The percent of charge doesn't show properly anymore. I'm not sure I'd buy it again.

March 16, 2017
Shaver is fine, but I thought the blades would have lasted a lttle longer. Only had it for about a month and it no longer does as a good a job as it did initially. I find myself having to go over same spots over and over to get a reasonably close shave. I guess I may need to buy new blades already? I expected the blades to last longer than a month. Battery charge seems to last for about 5 shaves, thought it would be better too. Unit feels good and comfortable, but did expect the blades to last longer. Wonder if replacement blades would be of better quality? Hope this helps.
Not as good as I had hoped
February 8, 2017
Purchased this 2 months ago here at Amazon. Comparing this to Panasonic single blade ES-SA40 purchased 5 years ago at Amazon and Panasonic single blade travel shaver ES-RS10 purchased at Amazon 2 months ago. Of the 3, the loudest seems to be the most expensive triple blade ES8103 with a high pitch sound. As for closeness, they are about even. Time to shave seems to be slighter longer with ES8103 and the blades get hotter. Also cleaning is a little cumbersome with soap and water instead of a brush. Best part of ES8103 is the charging time of 1 hour versus 8 hours for ES-SA40 and 16 hours for Remington models that I used before. All shavers give me about 7 to 8 shaves. A little bit disappointed with ES8103 since I still prefer using the 5 year old ES-SA40 single blade but the battery seems to be slowing dying since now I only get 3-4 shaves out of it.
Very good shaver, but not great. Lasted only 2 years.
January 10, 2015
This is the second Panasonic shaver purchase for my husband. It was purchased as a replacement to his similar (Arc4) shaver which failed just before the 2 year warranty expired. He needed something while waiting for the warranty, expecting the warranty to take several weeks to resolve. Normally I would not purchase a product again that has proven to be unreliable - failing during the warranty period is not a good indicator of the product design. However, he really liked the quality of the shave and wanted to stick with the Panasonic. Because he viewed the shaver as essentially "disposable" item, with an expected useful life of two years, the decision was made to go with the 20% less expensive Arc3.This Arc3 shaver lasted 25 months of 5 day / week use. Not covered under warranty anymore. Bummer.Comparing the shave to Arc4... Arc3 is noticeably rougher. It tugs a bit more at the skin. Definitely a difference. And in my husband's opinion, not really worth the savings compared to Arc4. So, minus 1 star for the lower quality shave,Minus 1 more star because of overall product reliability. The product is obviously engineered to last +/- 24 months. Based on my experience, and the reviews of others, you can count on the product lasting 2 years. But you may get lucky and have it covered under warranty if it fails before that.Happy to report Panasonic was very easy to deal with on the Arc4 warranty. We shipped the shaver to Panasonic with the proper paperwork enclosed. About 10 days later a brand new replacement shaver showed up on the doorstep. This happened quite a bit faster than expected. So, he is going to break the (now two year old) replacement Arc4 out of the box. It has been sitting in the cabinet for 2 years as a standby. He guesses it will last about two more years.
does a fair job
May 16, 2014
i shave my face neck and head with this, been using it for almost two weeks, it does an ok job. i'd only recommend using it with shave cream, even the cheap stuff, just to give it a little lubrication and get as close as it can. i've taken up using lectric shave for first pass, then lathering up for second, to get an actual close shave i need to go back over with a razor still though. i'm keeping it because it lets me get the back and sides of my head without and nicks. maybe the four blade would do a better job? it's an ok buy, i'm happy with battery life, i've never been impressed with electrics anyway so it's as good as expected. .
Was Tired of using shaving cream and razors
August 28, 2013
I owned a Remington few years back, but quit using it because it was a pain to clean and the foils did not last that long.Once again I have become tired of using a razor and shaving cream. The reviews seemed pretty good, so I gave this one a shot.Overall, it is not a bad electronic shaver thingy. However, if I don't shave with it at least every other day it is more hassle than a razor with shaving cream. Any whiskers older than two days are quite rebellious to the shaving attempts made by the Panasonic ES8103S. It does not take kindly to facial hair that lays down, especially those on the under the chin area.I think I like it... that is if I use it at least every other day. I want quick fast shave in the morning, to mitigate the process of using razor and cream. But, if I go longer than a few days, it takes longer to shave with the ES8103S than with a razor and cream.I am still using this item after about 3 months or so, the battery has held up well so far, and the foil does not seem very warn. I reckon I will be able to use it for quite a while before I have to replace the blades and foil. This brings me to another point. The foil and blades are so much more cheaper for this unit than the quad blade max quintuple face lift lawn mower style electric razors. So, if you plan on shaving at least every other day, want low cost replacement foil/blades, and are satisfied with a 80% clean shave, this is probably great bargain.

Not as good as my old one.
September 22, 2017
I purchased this to replace my Panasonic ES-SA40-K which worked great for years. This model was a disappointment. It did not shave well. I could not get it to shave under my nose, just did not fit. It was difficult to keep clean. I does not mount on the charger like my old one. The trimmer does not latch in place making it difficult to use. After a few months of use, I am throwing it away.
Not Able to Cut Excessive Hair Lengths; Do Not Buy if You Want a "Real" Shaver
March 29, 2017
If you actually want a shaver to shave anything; and not just "girly face stuff", this one cannot handle excessive hair length (of a beard). If your face is hairy, the blades (of either full head blades or side extension) will get stuck; you will have to spend several hours grinding down layers at a time, then recharging battery in between rounds. Furthermore, the closeness of this shaver is not well as compared to other products. Finally, it does not shave function when plugged in, so eventually the battery will deplete charge capacitance, and you will be forced to buy new one.If you regularly shave everyday or otherwise lite trimming, then this product may work for you. Else, buy a *real shaver that has the power.
Panasonic ES8103S vs ES8243A LED FAILURES
August 21, 2016
Just coming off the ES8243A that recently went to the gadget grave. Seems 2 years is the engineered obsolescence sweet spot for electric razor gremlins to creep in. I'm hoping to get better hang time on this less expensive ES8103S and will post periodically with usage results. Spec differentials on the 3 blade ES8103S vs 4 blade ES8243A focus on cutting head. All else being equal except price--$65 vs $104.I have a thick beard and allowed it 2 days growth before trialing the '103. I shaved half face wet and the other half dry. Results were somewhat expected. The '243 shaved better than the '103 dry likely due to its 4 blade advantage. But I never cared for the '243 dry shave that left my face severely irritated and wasn't nearly as close to a manual shave as advertised wet or dry. I always used the '243 wet to stave off razor burn. The '103 dry shave was noticeably rough and spotty so it's probably safe to assume the Panasonic 5 blade LV 65 $205 and LV 95 $282 will cut dry better than any 4 blade although with my experience on these short lived electric razors I simply can't justify the upgrade cost hit. The '103 wet shave (edge gel) was a pleasant surprise. It actually gave me a closer shave than the '243 and much closer to a smooth manual shave as advertised than any other electric razor I've purchased in the distant past --mostly Braun. The '103 also shaved under my nose much tighter than the '243 which seems to have a wider flatter cutting head.So for now I'll have to throw the advantage to the ES8103S in terms of cost and wet shave results vs the ES8243A. An added bonus -- the ES8103S seems to have better battery life than the ES8243A which has 4 blades and adds more load to the same 13000 (cycles per minute) CPM motor perhaps contributing to shorter hang time on longevity. Time will tell.My review of the ES8243A:https://www.amazon.com/review/R1MA0GRSB05GDUUpdate: 09/26/16Don't bother with this product. Panasonic can't get the LED right. This one failed like the ES8242A. Won't be purchasing any electric shaver products from Panasonic again. Shave is still good but the LED went brain dead much like the R&D that went into this product.
Quick to start falling apart.
August 15, 2016
I've owned two of these razors, the first one was amazing until my dog ate it - got 2 years with zero issues out of it. I purchased a second one less than a year ago. I got about 75 shaves out of it until the foil started falling apart in multiple places. Evidently the quality of the product has dramatically dropped since my first purchase. Customer service at Panasonic is absolutely terrible and did not care that their product only lasted 8 months before developing issues and wanted me to purchase new foil. I can understand foil needing to be replaced, but not this quickly. If you can justify each shave costing you around 50 cents just in foil repair, then this is the razor for you. If not, go buy something else that won't fall apart as quick.
Heed the warnings - the LCD readout fails quickly
May 18, 2016
Have owned the shaver for about 6 weeks. Before this week, I would've given it 4-5 stars -- probably 4, because you have to find the right shave gel to keep it from dragging on wet skin, and it sometimes requires a couple of extra passes vs other shavers. But this week, the LCD display started malfunctioning, and I no longer know how much battery remains. I've read other complaints about the screen quickly failing. I like that feature because I travel frequently, and knowing remaining battery means I don't always have to pack the extra bulk of a charger. Will be contacting Amazon about a refund.
Nothing special
October 10, 2013
I was pretty underwhelmed with this razor. Don't get me wrong... It does the job. Shaves are pretty close and smooth. But, it takes longer than a standard shave. It takes significantly longer if you wait more than a couple days between shaves. I also end up using a standard razor anyway to clean up whiskers that the Panasonic misses. With stubble going, I need to use the trimmer to cut everything down to a shorter length before using the shaver. Again, this is time consuming.Outside the shave quality and duration, the razor seems relatively well made. No mechanical issues after half a year of use. The razor has to be taken apart after every shave and left to dry, otherwise it will develop a bit of a funk (smell). I have been diligent with rinsing and keeping it clean (hot water + dish soap, as the instructions suggest), but if I don't disassemble the unit to dry. It smells. The battery is pretty solid, a full charge gets me at least 4 shaves or so.I had high hopes for replacing my standard razor with this Panasonic, but after about half a year I am probably going to switch back to the old-fashioned approach. The time and work just aren't worth it to me.

SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TIME AND RUN AWAY FROM!
March 16, 2017
I have had this for over two years and I had to finally take the time to write a review. This razor drives me crazy. The battery life compared to previous Panasonic model (ES8228S) I owned is at least 50% lower.YOU can immediately tell the difference when you hold it in your hand. It is lighter and feels plasticky.I get two shaves max before it becomes unusable (once it gets below 30% it will start pulling your hairs out inside of cutting them). This is based on starting from 100% charge, and I dont have beard, just regular shave after 1-2 days growth. My old Panasonic lasted 10 shaves. It has been like this from day 1, so I dont think it is because I need a new head or foil. Because it doesn't last very long per charge, I have only used it maybe 50-60 times. Finally, the worst issue is that there is no power lock button. If I travel with this shaver, the power button will inevitably get hit, start it up, and drain the battery. This even happens quite often in my bathroom drawer, it has a hair trigger power button.So...you arrive at your destination for a big business meeting, and your razor is dead. "Oh, I'll just plug it in for 5 minutes and use it" (like my old razor)...NOPE. Save your money and yourself the frustration and find a better model Panasonic or different brand.
Absolute waste of money
April 23, 2016
Absolute waste of money , i never got a clear shave using this Razor. it always leaves behind hair, especially on the neck line. Initially i thought it would take some time before it gets adjusted( meaning for me to to get to know of better way of using this product). but even after 10 shavings i still didn't manage to get a clean shave.I had a very low cost(20 $) trimmer before i bought this product which was way better than this one, i'm absolutely regretting that i bought this product.
Save your money. Prefer Norelco.
November 16, 2014
I had high hopes for this shaver, I was hoping to shave my head and face at the same time in the shower. Maybe I asked too much. My 10 year old Norelco shaver still has better battery life than this unit after 1 year of use. This shaver never holds a charge for more than 2-3 shaves anymore. Of course you cannot shave with it while it is charging. So now it dies mid shave while getting ready for work. The pretty lcd display stopped functioning after 6 months of use. Panasonic says they will repair it, but I must send them the razor for a month. Luckily I have my trusty old Norelco or I would be growing a beard with no razor. Speaking of my old Norelco, it still gives me a better shave and shaves while charging. Shaving in the shower was poor anyway. I wish I could get my money back on this unit.
Worst shaver ever used of many
June 13, 2013
This Panasonic ES8103S shaver is the worst I've ever used of the many I've had now at age 59. I've had shavers at less than half the cost that worked much better. I'm the type that has very little to shave, only mustache area, chin and neck, couldn't grow a beard if I tried, and it couldn't even handle that. The sound this thing makes is terrible, very unusual, reminds me of some kind of alarm you would hear, nothing like any foil or rotary shaver I've had, very annoying and loud.I don't use shavers wet so just used it in dry mode. A very uncomfortable shave, like it's grabbing whiskers and very hard to smoothly move across face, like it's dull but it didn't look used since all package seals were intact. After several passes over one area, it wouldn't give a smooth shave, it might eventually but gave up as my old foil shaver worked much better.
Horrible
January 25, 2013
Like pushing a steel garden rake thru a Berber carpet.I'm a long time Amazon and Panasonic shaver customer and I've never been so disappointed in a brand name appliance. No wonder they ask you to try these things out for a month to adjust to your beard.....because most retailers only give you a month to return these things back to them for a full refund. Time's up, you own it.This review is based on 3 Panasonic shavers in relation to this current product:The ES-SA40:PROS:Real smooth and close shave that was a cheap and light weight work horse.CONS:Noisy, single blade, heavy vibrate, 8 hour charge and most of all.......no good for two day old shaves. This unit can't cut long hairs like your tri-blade shavers can.The ES-8018:PROS:Comfortable, linear tri-blade that shaves close with shorter charging periods.CONS:Heavy to hold and use. The trimmer broke off for no apparent reason as it wasn't abused. The now ES-8103S:PROS:Light weight, linear tri-blade that's relatively quiet and charges in about an hour.CONS:Like pushing a steel garden rake thru a Berber carpet.I found this shaver painful, particularly in the mustache area when using pre-shave lotion or not. Conclusion:I personally believe that style had priority over performance with this unit. After using this shaver, mainly for long hairs, I still use my ES-SA40 for a once over to pick up all the missing stubbles that the ES-8013S left behind."Oh, you'll get there with this ES-8103S.....it's just that you'll feel every irritating scrape/jerk/bump along the way."I'll be moving to a Braun for my next shaver.
Not for tough beards.
October 17, 2012
I don't know what all these people are raving about. This machine is not for tough beards that grow in different directions in whirlwind patterns or for beards that are dry and curly (like mine :(...) I tried it on my arm hair and it took it out just fine. I tried it on my face, ugghhh! mission impossible! I gotta do like 5 passes to get it to look at the very least like 5 oclock shadow, and that was with the wet shave! I thought perhaps I got a defective device, but that is not the case because I gave to my dad to try (who has fine straight oily beard, that grows in one direction and isn't as thick as mine..... is he my father? lol must've got it from my moms side of the family; not that she has a beard..lol)Anyway, I give it one star because it didn't work for me. So if you have a tough beard like mine, I would not recommend this, stick to shaving with mach 3 or fusion or whatever expensive cartridge blade of your choice. My dad would give this 4 stars, because it worked for him.
