Love this dehydrator
December 18, 2016
This dehydrator has been fantastic. I work on an organic farm and, as with any business that sells food, there is a lot of waste. Between canning and dehydrating I've been able to save some of that waste for winter use. I've dehydrated apples, onions, carrots, peppers, eggplant, tomatoes, bananas, jerky, fresh herbs and a huge variety of other veggies. It's never taken more than 12 hours, even with a full load and over filled a little. It's easy to keep clean and doesn't seem to make any impact on our power bill. Overall, I'm very pleased with this purchase.
Get this machine!!! You want 9 trays or more!
May 30, 2016
LOVING this machine since we got it! SO much better than the smaller machines I've had in the past. The circulation is excellent, cleanup couldn't be easier (I put the black trays in the dishwasher). I can actually buy produce from Costco now without wasting anything! Pears, pineapple, mango, and apples have turned out the best. If you want to try something really delicious as a "candy"--I had a box of mandarin orange cups from Costco (you know, the kind with the peel top that you throw in a lunch box) and I opened a few and drained the fluid and placed them on the dehydrator just to see what those would turn out to be like--SO delicious! SO sweet! I bought some fresh mandarins and they were such a hassle to peel or slice for one tiny wedge of fruit--they didn't turn out nearly as good as those from the cups! Definitely more pricey, but we really weren't eating them fast enough, so I decided to get some use out of them. Yum! I've been using the greens from everything we buy that I would normally throw away (beet tops, leek tops etc) and dehydrating them and grinding them to a powder making my own "super food" mix and putting them in everything I cook (stews, soup, quiche, eggs etc) as well as my husband's daily "shake". Nothing is going to waste in this household! I need all 9 trays to make it worth my while! If I'm going to have to do as much chopping and prepping as it takes, I want to do it all in one sitting if I can. The smaller machines are much more of a chore because you can't fit much in them. This is amazing! What an upgrade! Worth every penny! :)

"Cadillac" of food dehydrators!
March 8, 2015
Excalibur, the "Cadillac" of food dehydrators! I love it. Dries efficiently and thoroughly with the rear fan and variable temperature dial. So much better than my old one-temperature blow-from-the-bottom-thru-the-plastic-trays version.
Great capacity
December 15, 2013
I got the Excalibur 9 Tray dehydrator to replace my old worn out round dehydrator. The old one just couldn't handle the volume of jerky family and friends demanded LOL So far I am very pleased! I mixed up a 5lb batch of ground deer mixed with NESCO Jerky Works Original seasoning mix. I could have easily put in 7-8lbs of ground deer in the Excalibur. I really like the removable trays and mesh. It should make for easy clean up.

Helps with clean-up!
August 28, 2017
These have solved the problem of having to scrub my dehydrator mesh every time I use my dehydrator! They are so reasonably priced, and the food slides off, or peels right off, depending on what it is. Especially great for tomatoes and strawberries, although the strawberries stained the sheets. The tomatoes didn't, surprisingly. Seem to be pretty strong and I think they will last quite a while. They wash up so much more easily than the mesh.

These are perfect for making fruit leather or roll-ups. We have 10 Great-grandchildren and these are perfect to be able to give them fruits that they love. We also are into prepping for hard times and these sheets fit into our dehydrator and then clean up easily.

These are literally 1/10 of the price of the name brand (Excalibur) silicone mats and they work FANTASTIC!! Makes fruit leather a breeze and clean-up of anything we dehydrate so, so easy. I can't even begin to express how pleased I am with these. I've recommended to several friends. Try it--you'l LOVE it!
Dehydrator sheets
January 4, 2015
I listened to another reviewer and tried sheets from Walmart. What a horrible mistake! Just did not work, wrong size, drying took forever, and had to turn items to dry the bottom. With these you still have to turn, but they are much easier to handle and fit perfectly. Most of the time unless I am making jerky, I put one on the bottom rack only to catch spills. These have been used more than a dozen times and while they do have some stains on them, they have no rips or tears. I love to dehydrate food!
same as expensive sheets that came w/ my excalibur!!!! Love them
September 21, 2010
These sheets are exactly the same as teflex sheets, just no printed words across the sheets. Work perfectly. Don't hesitate to purchase. This is truely a great deal, you wont be dissapointed.

I really like this dehydrator
April 12, 2016
I really like this dehydrator, although dehydrating fruits and vegetables is a lot more expensive than I thought it would be. So, I haven't been able to use it too much. Dee and I both agree that we are very excited to try the yogurt making mode because he makes homemade yogurt from time to time.9 Trays is definitely enough. I haven't filled up more than four so far. We decided to go with this size because we didn't want to buy a smaller one now and then upgrade later. It doesn't have the timer, but that is okay. You can purchase a cheap wall timer for it, if you don't plan on being home when it needs to be turned off.I am really looking forward to trying out new and healthy foods with my Excalibur!

So far so good. Dries well. Bulkier than I expected. The noise doesn't bother me. Will keep, but I am not sure it is all that superior to the American Harvester I replaced, which was cheaper. I am hoping it lasts longer. The trays on the Harvester cracked on me...maybe I should not have sent them through the dishwasher...and the heating element gave up the ghost.
Nice so far
February 12, 2014
Naturally, the first thing we made with this was jerky. Their manual says 4-6 hours, but it took over 8 hours to get our jerky dry enough. Happy to have, though. Didn't realize how huge it was until it came in. Could have gone for one of the smaller ones. You could easily put 15lbs of jerky in this thing at a time.
Awesome dehydrator!
January 12, 2011
I have never owned a dehydrator previous to this one, however, I really like it!The dehydrator does a great job, it can fit a lot of food too! So far, I have made beef jerky, dried fruit and veggies. Beef jerky is amazing!!It's not terribly loud or quiet - sounds like a large fan running which is what is happening - the fan is circulating the air to speed up the dehydration process.Only downside, is cleaning the trays :( a bit of a pain in the butt.Overall, very cool product and does an awesome job!

Very glad I found these
September 3, 2017
These are fabulous for dehydrating things that start out more liquidy than most (like leathers, crackers, etc.). I only wish they came in larger pieces because my dehydrator trays are much larger than the screens. But they work well and the price is excellent.
They do what they're supposed to.
February 28, 2017
Although the item arrived on time, the package was not rigid. This resulted in the sheets folding over on themselves during transit, and creating creases. Serviceable, but still a minor annoyance.

January 23, 2015
These worked perfectly for my Excalibur dehydrator. I made the mistake of spreading some molasses way too thin on one sheet and there was no getting it removed. For the price I can afford to throw one or two away and order more. All other dehydrating with these have been great. Honey for honey powder is even an easy cleanup. Best word of advise though is the thinner the better when spreading out.Update: the wife ended up soaking them in hot water and what I thought was stuck on forever gobs of half dehydrated molasses and honey came right off. I couldn't believe it.
You get more(!) than you pay for here ...
July 22, 2014
Can't really give these a 5 unless I tried the more expensive Excalibur brand name ones and found these to equal them in quality, but for what I've used these for and the results I've had, I couldn't see paying the much higher price for the brand name ones. I dried about 12+ pounds of premixed spaghetti with meat sauce and had excellent results in the 9 tray Excalibur dehydrator. The tomato did leave a slight stain on the sheets but, after washing with detergent, rinsing, and drying, I could detect almost no residual tomato-like odor on the sheets. The real proof will be if/when I someday attempt to make fruit leather or dry some other high moisture food that "soaks into" the stain on the sheets. They are waterproof even though they *look* like a mesh that would allow water to pass through.Mine arrived flat in the top of the package with the dehydrator so I experienced no bends or creases in the sheets due to shipping issues as other reviewers report. There is no question that rough handling or accidental folding would leave a crease in them as they appear to be almost like a fine copper weave (but I have no idea what the material actually is). I wish they could be dishwasher cleaned although I'm not sure how you'd position them so that they wouldn't curl up on themselves or stick to each other in the washing process. I cleaned them by holding under running water, washing gently with a soapy dish rag, rinsing off with the running water, dabbing off on paper towels, laying on dehydrator trays, and then running the unit on low for about 10 minutes.I plan on ordering more of these if the need ever arises. If and when this happens, I'll order 1 or 2 of the Excalibur brand to see whether they're worth the extra dollars and amend this review as appropriate. In the meantime, I'll just be a bit more gentle with these than I might have to with the brand name (as other reviewers noted).
Great price and good quality.
May 14, 2013
These are a must for dehydrating certain foods. When I ordered my Excalibur dehydrator it came with 1 dehydrator sheet which was the Excalibur brand. I purchased these generic sheets at the same time as I bought the dehydrator because I wanted enough for the 9 trays mine holds. In my opinion I think the Excalibur brand might be slightly better quality but they are more expensive than these generic sheets and I'm glad I saved the money. They basically do the same exact thing. While the Excalibur sheets and these generics are in NO WAY are like actual paper, the best way to compare the two kinds is like this: think of parchment paper (not the kind you cook with but the kind you'd write on) and compare it to regular paper. Parchment would be the Excalibur sheet - is sturdier than regular paper, and these generic sheets would be less sturdy- but that's not really a bad thing, just different. Again they're not like paper but just trying to describe the difference between the two in turns of sturdiness. If you put anything on these that has some oil on it, it will leave these looking kind of stained even after cleaning. The Excalibur sheet is more glossy and I can't really see any staining. But again they both do what they;re supposed to do and these are cheaper.
Needed for those 'messy' items
August 25, 2012
We just began dehydrating this past month. These sheets really should ship with the unit - you need them for anything that might drip. We dehydrate liver and other things for the dogs - thus we need these.Pros:Fit the trays very nicely.Shipped rolled so no creaseskeep the drips off the other trays and off the bottom of the unit.simple to clean - just hot water and soap and they clean right up.Cons:a bit light-weight - the dehydrator can 'flap' these around if there isn't much on there - or when the material being dried gets light.Overall very useful and no issues on this end. These are FAR less expensive that other options and do the job just fine.Hope that helps.

Dehydrator quality

The product seems okay however the sides are designed so flimsy that they bow out to where the shelves could possibly fall if pushed to one side or the other. If you can deal with that it seems to be a decent unit.
I love my new toy
October 25, 2015
I love my new toy! I am making the most amazing paprika, one teaspoon of ground dehydrated paprika pepper and your food will taste better than your favourite restaurant. Also all my herbs look so green and they are so flavourful. The only negative side was that I didn't look carefully with the currency when I bought it and since I am in Canada my credit card got charged US dollars which made my toy extremely expensive, almost double the price.

October 26, 2014
The reason I bought this was was to make jerky out of deer meat. I decided to buy 5 pounds of ground beef and do a trial run with it. DO NOT USE BEEF in this thing. You will never get all of the grease out of it. I have run the trays AND screens through the dishwasher twice now. They are still slippery with grease. I am now running three at a time through the dish wash, hoping the grease will come off this time and not just wash onto the screens and racks. I have wiped grease out of the inside of the dehydrator several times, using dawn dish liquid. I'm working on it again today, trying to get this grease out. It was about 1/8 of an inch deep in the bottom of it when it was done dehydrating the hamburger. It ran down the front and is even on the bottom of it. I know, what did I expect to happen when dehydrating beef. It was lean beef, but still is real mess. I guess it is not the fault of the dehydrator. I'm mainly warning you about this just to let you know what to expect when doing beef. Think about frying 5 pounds of burger, and then think about all of this grease you'd have in your frying pan. Now, imagine all of this grease inside of this dehydrator, all over the front of the door, under it, and all over the trays and screens. The instructions say just wipe the screens off and not to put them in the dishwasher. If you don't run them through the dishwasher at least 3 times, they will not get degreased. I hope the third time through the dishwasher works this time. I ran the sausage shooter through the dishwasher once and it came out squeekyy clean. It's like these trays and screens and the inside of the dehydrator has a surface that won't let the grease come off. I hope that I don't have this mess when I finally dehydrate some venison. This so frustrating. I gave it three stars because of the level of difficulty in getting this thing clean. It performs it's job just fine. But just try and clean it. You are in for a real job.
Overall, good design.
May 1, 2014
Good overall function and simple design but could be better. The thermostat is flimsy and inaccurate so, I replaced it with a digital P.i.D. for $12 and works great. Save $50 by getting the one without the cheap timer and buy a $5 mechanical wall timer. Plastic, just sucks, so I'm making the whole thing out of redwood with stainless mesh screens. Overall, it's a really good design. Had I known how simple a design I would have made one from scratch.

Don't know if I would have bought them , wax paper would be maybe enough
August 14, 2017
Now I kinda think I should've not bought them cos a piece of wax paper would do the job and help fruit leathers to store and unstick it. They fold/damage easily when wash and dry or trying to take the fruit leather off it. But they're the cheapest.

July 27, 2017
First of all they did not arrive on the guaranteed arrival date, then I was a little skeptical because they are so thin, but they work pretty good. They are easy to wash, they may wrinkle a little which is no big deal but they serve their intended purpose. What I fine not so good is they are so thin that they flap in the back of the dehydrator from the air of the fan, and the fruit leathers are a real pain to get off unless they are over dehydrated. The fruit leathers stick to the surface requiring major effort getting them off without tearing the leathers apart in the process. I will try putting plastic wrap on top because the leathers don't stick to plastic wrap as much as they do these "non stick" sheets.
Economical and easy to "trim to fit" for other dehydrators
December 27, 2014
I bought these sheets because the thicker "lipped" inserts for my Waring Pro dehydrator are ridiculously expensive ($8.95 each), and the dehydrator only comes with one. These sheets are thin, which makes them easy to "cut to fit", but have not figured out a way to put a lip on them. They are probably too thin for that, but for smaller veggies like peas and fruits like shredded coconut, sliced strawberries, and bananas, they work just fine for the price. The non-stick surface works pretty well, and they are not difficult to clean by hand - not a dishwasher item.
Doubt they will last
August 20, 2014
I don't think these will last long. I didn't realize I wasn't buying the Excalibur brand, and I haven't had the other brand yet to compare, but they stained after the first use- don't really care that much- but they are now curling up at the edges at that eventually will be a problem. I've used them maybe 10 times now.
How thick are these dehydrator sheets? - 3 mils (.003 inch)
March 28, 2014
In the description of most dehydrator sheets for sale, the sheet thickness is omitted, usually because the sheets are thin, and thin is not a selling point. These sheets are approximately 3 mils (.003 inch) thick. The dehydrator sheets for a few dollars more on Amazon are 5 mils (.005 inch) thick. I ordered both. For reference, a sheet of 24 lb copy paper has a thickness of 5 mils (typical), and a sheet of 20 lb copy paper has a thickness of 3 mils (typical). I have never seen a mil thickness stated for the Excalibur brand Teflon dehydrator sheets, but for generic Teflon sheets, 3 mils is the thinnest I've found and 5 mils is the thickest I've found. These dehydrator sheets have a woven mesh synthetic fabric core, with a Teflon coating on both sides, and are tan in color. The sheet edges are cut cleanly, square, and are not sealed, so water can probably wick into the fabric if left submerged or exposed to water. These sheets fit the 15 x 15 Excalibur trays perfectly. The sheets are made in China and came shipped in a plastic bag placed in the box with other items ordered, not rolled in a cardboard tube. There was no significant creasing or edge damage, just some impact marks that should not affect performance. These are OK, but the next time I buy dehydrator sheets, for a few bucks more I'll go with the thicker 5 mil sheets.

February 24, 2014
Not worth the $$...in my opinion. For the price the unit is cheap, is hard to move or handle w/o the drawers slipping out, and ugly...Not that I expect beauty in a dehydrator, but for around 200$, it seems to me the price point should be about 50-60% of what it currently is...

40 + hours and basil still not dry
September 18, 2013
I bought this dehydrator because of the high reviews. I read through every inch of the instruction manual...I read up on dehydrating online. This thing came in the mail and I was so excited. I rinsed and picked off my basil leaves. Dried them. Laid them in a single layer on the racks. I didn't have a whole lot of basil, so I really only needed to use two racks. I spaced on empty rack in between the two larger ones. I checked it in 4 hours...still moist. Checked it in 8, still moist, so at this point I cranked it up to about 105 degrees from 95. Hours went by and still the same thing, so I decided I would get a thermometer and check and see if the heat was accurate. It was. It was reading 107 degrees. So then I got the humidistat from my daughter's bedroom. The humidity in my house is 58. If a humidity of my house at 58 is too high for the basil to dry then obviously it is not going to work any season of the year except the winter when humidity is at 15. I live in Northern KY, so it is not like I live in a tropical area. The amount of electricity used to dry the basil has to be WAY more than buying actual dried basil would cost. My next project was going to be apples and grapes, but not anymore. I can't imagine how long it would take to dry them! This is going back to Amazon. Oh, and before I forget, I emailed Excalibur and they never responded. I would not recommend this dehydrator.

These simply do not work unless you constantly flip the food you are trying to dehydrate. I have been trying to dehydrate banana slices for over 16 hours with the sheets and very frustrated. Also, the banana slices do stick to the sheets and have to be peeled off everytime I flip the slices. I do not recommend this product.

I Did!
There is a reason that they are cheap

Poor quality. I absolutely got what I paid for in this case. Should have ordered the ones from Excalibur. These are super flimsy, & arrived with creases. They look like laminated sheets of super thin fabric. I expected more of a Silpat type sheet, but these are total crap. Could have run some cotton through my laminator for the exact same effect, sigh...

I am returning this product. The sheets are very thin, and with one use of making jerky they stained completely. I will buy the original parallex sheets from the manufacturer to replace.

A honest comparison of Dehydrator sheets. I tried to take photos of the different dehydrator sheets I have purchased over the years. The best quality for the Excalibur is the sheets sold by the company. You can get them for less at Harvest Essentials. Out of the sheets sold by Excalibur, the newest, thickest one is the best quality. They have the brown band around the edge. The photo also shows an older thinner Teflex sheets. They are around 20 or more years old and still work fairly well. Some were lost in a move, so I replaced them with the generic ones sold on Amazon. I have two batches of the Amazon variety. The one that is about a year old is fairly thick, like the Excalibur sheets. What it lacks is the slickness. It worked for about a year. Food started sticking to it. They are wrinkled looking from washing. In comparison the Excalibur sheets are still slick, non-stick. The newest ones from Amazon were used once. They are so thin. Its like trying to wash a piece of plastic wrap. As a result they are wrinkled. They are terrible to work with. They are so light they don't stay in place when spreading out stuff like wraps. If you don't cover every square inch with food, they flap in the breeze from the dehydrator fan. They are going into the trash. The feel like use once and toss. I have not tried using parchment paper. This is an example of what you pay for is what you get. Excalibur makes a quality product. 1st photo new sheet. 2nd photo is a 20+ year old sheet. It's still in good quality. 3. The newest generic Amazon dehydrator sheet. Very poor quality. Sure to frustrate the most dedicated dehydrator. 4. Dehydrator sheet thickness sided by side. Excalibur and generic. Generic is very thin. Not very slick. 5. Excalibur to Excalibur sheet. I had purchased these sheets hoping to save money. Instead I found it a waste of money.
Not happy with this purchase

I was so happy to receive my Non-Stick Dehydrator sheets. They were at such good price, I bought 2 packs. I thought, there, now I don't have to cut parchment papers any more. However, they worked grate the first time around. The second time I used them, the fruit rolls got stuck on each and every sheet. I don't think I got my moneys worth. Now they are sitting in my pantry. The only time I can use them is if I am dehydrating pieces of fruits. Even then, I spray them with non stick. just to make sue I don't have to spend hours peeling the fruits off. They are useless to me.
