Great product at a great price.
Great little clock
September 8, 2015
Daylight readable from across the room, and the soft light comes on for a couple of seconds when you push the button for night-time reading. Alarm is loud enough for me. Easy to set the time and alarm. If something happens to this one I'll replace it with the same model.
Big display, easy to set, loud alarm
April 10, 2014
My old Radio Shack travel alarm clock finally gave up the ghost after nearly 18 years of hard use. As a replacement, this new Elgin alarm clock is far easier to read and much easier to set. I love how the display lights up red when the alarm goes off. The slider switch used to set the time and alarm and to turn the alarm on and off might be the first component to wear out, but we'll just have to wait and see how this clock holds up through the years. For now, I'm very happy with this purchase. I plan to buy at least one more as a gift.
Great little clock
January 14, 2014
I looked and looked for a new travel clock for my husband. He had an old old travel clock that had definitely seen better days. Finally I picked this Elgin model after viewing a ton of clock descriptions online. It is a very nice small clock. The stand folds over the front to become a protective cover for traveling and the backlight for the time (when the special button is pressed) is a pleasant blue color. The clock has relatively simple functions but that is good -- we were not looking for bells and whistles. The alarm volume may be a tad low, but it still wakes my husband up when he sets the alarm.
compact, works well

This little alarm clock is easy and intuitive to set and has a nice loud beep, loud enough to really wake you up. Excellent product at an excellent price.
Excellent Portable Alarm

Wonderful little portable alarm with a healthy 'wake up' sound ... can recommend without any reservation. Ordered two of these as they are very reasonably priced.

Small and Perfect
February 13, 2017
This is the perfect bedside clock. I love the month/date and separate day readouts plus the indoor temp. The month/date give way to the alarm time when the alarm is set. The backlight is just bright enough to tell the time and you can make it stay on all the time if desired. Touching the snooze bar on top simply makes the backlight brighter for a few seconds. Haven't had it long enough to see how it works switching to DST automatically. I liked this clock so much I bought another one the next day :-) The only negative is setting it to all of the correct readings out of the box but after maybe half an hour I figured it out. The instructions are just OK. If you buy one just remember. Put batteries in first (duh) then wait until the correct time zone appears on a little U.S. logo top right. It defaults to pacific time but you press a button (forgot which one, check instructions) to toggle to you time zone....THEN....press CLOCK button until the YEAR flashes...press the up or down arrows to the correct year and the correct DAY will appear automatically. The secret is to press clock again after the year you live in is displayed (for instance, I'm in 2017 though I'd rather be in, say, 1965) and everything else will fall into place. This is a great clock that I chose after looking at what seemed to be hundreds. Love it.
Great Battery Operated Alarm Clock
June 17, 2016
Clock in service now in service for 6 trouble free months running on the same Lithium Ultimate battery. For two months left the backlight set to auto, but for the last 4 months have set it to off (does illuminate if actuated). I found my viewing position for the dimly lit at night display not the best, so turned the backlight off. When the backlight is actuated by touching the top bar, the brightness is good, and since you're now standing up or sitting up, there is no problem with viewing angle to the LCD display.Keeps great time... no issues with power-failures... this is why I prefer a battery-powered alarm (and use Lithium to prevent leaky Alkaline's from ruining a good thing.Alarm is good - it starts with a not-too-loud 'beep', then after a few of these, begins to give out 'beep-beep' with pauses between, then 'beep-beep-beep' .... this idea seems to work (for me) quite well. No jarring alarm that wakes the house, no disturbing, shrill tone that fully wakes your spouse.... and if you respond to the 'beep' before it decides you need more, you may leave the house with a happy, still sleeping spouse.
Almost perfect, I only use it while traveling.

Pros:Excellent, easy to read display.Being an atomic clock it is dead on accurate.Display of Signal strength, alarm and time zones is easy to see.Fairly Light weight for its size.Easy to set.Night light is at a perfect brightness for a darken hotel room to see at night, especially given most hotel clocks are inaccurate and take too long to reset (if it can be reset at all). The night light switch is under the battery cover [see photo below - it is the right side on/off switch], easy to find and set, stays on all night.Night light turns off automatically when the room light (or sunlight) brightens the room.Light sensor is on the top at the snooze/5 second display bar.5 second display light is twice as bright as the night light.Alarm is loud enough, but won't throw you out of bed. It begins beeping slowly to wake you easily - then increases beep amount - not volume.Alarm runs for one minute and cuts off, on/off switch on the clocks face with red background when in "on" position.Wide base is very stable, the clock won't easily fall over when trying to turn on the display light or find the snooze delay bar.Case seems tough enough to take a light beating.Cons:Clock is 2 to 3 times as thick as most other travel clocks. No case or face protection, so display face can be damaged in transit. Suggest find soft case to cover or keep shipping box and bubble pocket the clock came in.The 4 inch wide, 3 1/4 high, 1 deep (1 1/4 deep at the base) and 6.5 oz weight is hefty for a travel clock and seems to take some space in smaller luggage. In General: it's almost perfect for travel, once you get use to the size, which isn't hard.
Good Product.
August 4, 2015
I really like this little clock! It has an amber display which is not too bright, and only lights up when I push the top button and is easy to read. I like it dark when I sleep, and most clocks seem to have either bright blue or bright green displays which are too bright for my eyes. This one is just right, and the time and temperature seem to be accurate and are easy to read. It was very easy to set up, and I feel confident that I won't miss the owners manual when I lose it in my filing system. The only drawback that I see is that it doesn't have a cover for its display and so will likely get scratched up if you throw it in your luggage for a trip. But, I just keep it by my bedside at home and so that doesn't matter to me.Over all, I'm very satisfied with this product.
Perfect bedside alarm.
May 24, 2015
I have been searching for type of clock for 2 years and tried out (and returned) about 6. I was looking for a small bedside clock with an audible and non-annoying alarm and this was perfect....It gives you all the info you need to start your day. The display is large enough to easily read. The battery insures that your alarm gores off, in the event of a power shortage. You can hear the alarm from 2 rooms away but it is not jarring. This would also be handy for a boat or camping trip.Having been so pleased with the first one, we purchased another as a travel clock. My only suggestion would be to offer it in a lighter color case, e.g. white or light gray. I have used it daily for 2 months and it is perfect.
Easy to set up
May 12, 2015
Easy to set up. Can read the numbers without my glasses. Only lights up when the button at the top is depressed--a plus when you want a dark room.

A little pricey for what you're getting, but works well.
September 20, 2017
I bought this two years ago, and I haven't had any problems with it. I haven't even had to change the batteries, although I imagine that if you use the more power-hungry functions like the light more often, it drains faster. I purchased mine to be a back-up morning alarm, because I'm terrible at actually getting out of bed once I wake up and often just fall right back asleep. This clock is loud and kind of annoying, as well as very portable, so I stick it on the opposite side of my room set to about 10 minutes after my phone alarm (much sweeter sounding but therefore easier to ignore) is set to go off. This way I have a snooze-button-push or two's worth of time to actually wake myself up, before this alarm forces me to drag myself out of bed.Things I like about this clock: - It's annoying, but not horribly so. You sure aren't going to sleep through it but it probably won't wake your whole house. - It's sturdy and reasonably compact. If I'm going on a trip, I can fold it up and throw it into my bag or suitcase to take it along, and I don't have to worry much about it bumping around and getting broken. If you have man-sized pockets, you could even feasibly put it in a pocket to carry around - when it's closed, the time is visible but all the button are covered. - It's easy to use. One switch with four settings (set time, set alarm, alarm on, alarm off), an add minute button, an add hour button, and a snooze/light button. I'm never confused about how to use it. Which, if you look at some of the competitors currently on the market, is a notable plus.Things that I don't like about this clock: - The blue light is VERY BRIGHT. It half-blinds me to look at it in the dark, which kind of defeats the purpose of an illuminated screen. I can practically use it as a dim flashlight. You're going to want to turn on your lamp to look at it instead. - Since the way to turn it off in the morning is to move the switch to the "alarm off" position, you're going to have to remember to put it back to "alarm on" before you go to bed. You can either flip it back on immediately after turning it off, or do it just before bed, but just make sure you don't forget. I've been late to work once or twice for that reason. - There's no way to remove hours or minutes, only add them. This means that if you miss the time you're aiming for, you have to hit the button a bunch more times and go all the way around and get back to it. Only a tiny complaint, and a side-effect of the simple controls, but still mildly annoying. - The price. Is this really a $12 clock? Not... really. I'd call this more a $7-8 clock in terms of value; it's kind of clunky and it has annoying features like the too-bright light. But honestly, the difference isn't that big. If you have a few extra dollars lying around, you might as well put them to this.Overall, I would recommend this product, since it does the job it's designed to do even if it's not perfect. It checks all the necessary boxes on my list: portable, good volume, easy to set, lasting quality.
Reduced to what is needed
October 9, 2016
This is simple, loud, and well protected in a suitcase. Has all functions one needs for traveling. I wished though, I could switch it to a 24hr system (I dislike am/pm). Yes, it looks a bit cheap but what do you expect for the price? I have seen cheap travel clocks that lasted decades and this one feels like it will as well.
good little travel clock
January 19, 2015
good little travel clock, although I use mine at home. Love the fact that it stays 'dark' all night; if you want to see the time, you have to push a button. VERY simple to program, although the buttons are a bit small, and the "functions" are hard to read because it's raised black lettering on black background. Alarm is decent, but has no volume control (that I know of) and may not wake a heavy sleeper. Battery operated, saves electricity. Have had it one month, so far, so good.
Good alarm clock for the price
June 2, 2014
I was tired of using my cell phone as my alarm clock due to reliability. This clock works well and wakes me up every morning. One feature that i really like is the ability to verify that the alarm is set and ready to wake you the night before. When the alarm is set and in the alarm position on the switch, when you press the min and hour buttons at the same time, the alarm with sound, flash the screen read and display the time it will go off in the morning. This puts my mind at ease as i sometime mis-set my alarm or don't turn it on properly. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was the viewing angle of the display. When you are below the clock, the numbers become less visible. The further up you look at the screen, the crisper and easier to read the numbers are. This is a big flaw for anyone whose nightstand is higher than the level of their bed.Other than the viewing angle, the alarm clock is great. I will continue to use it till it no longer works... and may buy another at that point. Great alternative to using the alarm on your phone.
One CRITICAL deal breaker problem for me
May 5, 2014
This clock is everything it is explained to me, works perfect. However (a big one for me as the subject indicates) if you look at the lighted dial in the picture, now multiply the light intensity by 10! The power of that lighted screen is enough to light up a room (I could be exaggerating a little). It is so bright that when I push the button at 3 am it causes momentary blindness, then leaves my eyes traumatized and makes getting back to sleep difficult. That's just me...Another problem for me is that in order to push that light button you have to grab the entire clock in your hand, otherwise it would just push away from you. A better design has the button on the top or on a support base.
An economical travel alarm
June 26, 2013
A compact, easy to use travel alarm -- well designed, and just what I was looking for. The only oddity (for me) is that the screen flashes red when the alarm goes off-- maybe so you can find it in the dark across the hotel room. The alarm initially goes off with a series of 8 double beeps (beep-beep, beep-beep...)then on the 9th, it changes to a more insistent triple beep series (beep-beep-beep, etc). The measurements are as follows:W- 2 3/8" H- 3 3/8" Depth when closed for travel- 3/4"Display W- 1 3/4" H- 3/4".

Decently loud and annoying enough to get you out of bed
May 16, 2017
Decently loud and annoying enough to get you out of bed. Fairly small and lightweight. The screen display is a decent size for my liking, but I would recommend looking closely at the alarm clock's dimensions prior to purchasing so that you don't end up with something smaller than you anticipated. I do wish it had the option to plug it into a power source instead of solely using batteries and it would be nice to have the option to read the temperature in Fahrenheit rather than just Celsius. However, I do like that you are able to change the brightness of the screen reading to suit your preferences. It is also small enough that you could throw it in your suitcase if you are traveling.
Solid clock w/ visibility limitations inherent in LCD technology
December 16, 2016
The clock has been working great since I purchased it in Aug. 2015- still on the original battery. I didn't think it was picking up the signal, but perhaps I didn't give it enough time to set itself initially since it does adjust itself for daylight savings and keep perfect time. I wish I had the option to use a plug so I could run the background light at night- even during the day I usually have to really focus my eyes on the numbers to tell the time from across the room. I didn't really want an LED clock for aesthetic reasons and because I didn't want to *have* to use a plug at all times, so I opted for this battery run LCD clock.I rarely have use for an alarm, but it has been adequate for that purpose the few times I've needed it. All in all, it was a solid purchase, but I'll be getting a wall clock with high contrast face so I can see the time at a glance from anywhere in the room. Good clock, all working as expected. Perhaps I shouldn't be docking a star for iffy visibility since that's just the nature of LCD, but it is what it is.
Excellent travel alarm clock
August 1, 2016
Very nice travel alarm clock. It has a solid feel and seems to be well made. The night time backlight is bright enough to read the clock from close up but not so bright it should keep you awake. I had one from a different maker that on its dimmest setting was like a spotlight, literally casting shadows on the wall. No such problem with this clock. Setting the alarm is straightforward and doesn't require three hands or a high level of manual dexterity. The button that turns on the alarm requires a bit of muscle to activate so it should never turn itself on when bouncing around in your luggage. My one criticism is that the display is rather busy. It's all useful information, but when I'm trying to read the time in the middle of the night I really don't need to know the temperature or the date or my time zone or that it has received the time signal recently. It would be nice if these things could be turned off so you can quickly focus on just the relevant parts. But this is a minor issue since the time is so much bigger than any of the other items. This clock has been on my bedside table for almost four months now and I'm very satisfied with it. I would also point out that it has been running all that time on a single set of rechargeable batteries. So no issues with NiMH batteries and Eneloops last for quite a while. I don't often use the alarm so the batteries might not last as long if you have the alarm go off every day.
Great little Atomic Clock.
February 6, 2016
Does it receive the time signal. Yes and No as it depends where you live and where you put it. The signal transmitted from the Denver Atomic Clock center is weak to begin with and is easily affected by weather and other atmospheric conditions. Which, is why they said the best reception time is at night because the Sun has gone down and generally unless you are having bad weather there is less atmospheric issues. If you live in a deep valley, your home has reflective windows, your home is made of something that complete blocks the signal, your surrounded by steel buildings etc then yes you probably will not receive the signal. If you are having issues with receiving it then here is what I suggest. Place the clock in a window that faces towards Denver or better yet outside (if possible). It took mine about 10 minutes to sync. After that I placed it in my bedroom. Since I have had it I lost sync once due to really bad weather. However, I really do not care at that point. Its not like the clock over several months would loose that much time if I did not notice it was in sync. If I need to re-sync I simply do what I did before and its back in sync. With that said if yours will not keep sync which mine does the only bad thing I can think of is when the switch to Daylight savings time occurs your clock would be off. So for the pros and consPROS:1. Nice little clock that has a nice backlight and best yet stays in sync with the atomic clock in Denver.2. Fair priceCONS:1. Yes its true that whoever developed this put in a lousy light sensor. Unless the lighting is directly above it the backlight does not turn off. I keep mine in the off mode and when I wake up I roll over and press the bar on the top which lights it for about 4 seconds. It is a bit bright but then again once it goes off I could care less.2. Runs on batteries but a buddy of mine has one and his has been running for 1.5 months and it is still going strong.3. I do fine the button for turning on and off the alarm a bit of a pain. I wish instead of the slide switch (where the red spot is on the clock) that they would have made it a toggle switch so it was easier to turn on and off. I then realized this is a travel alarm clock as well and if it was to easy to turn on it might constantly be going off in your luggage. I use mine at home only so with the intended use of the clock I guess I can not really complain about this.Would I buy another. YES I actually bought two but one had a defective backlight. So I will be ordering another. I did not see any other complaints about a failed backlight (unless I missed it) so I am assuming this is a one time issue.
Great clock especially for continental U.S. time zones.
November 10, 2015
I am very happy with the clock, but it only has radio controlled time zones for the continental U.S. I would not have assumed that since it offers the days of the week in French, Italian, English, etc. It works just fine overseas from the U.S. where I live but I'm glad that I do not have to use the automatic time feature. It has a good sized self-adjusting light display (dimly lit when room is dark) and I really like that it has the temperature in either Celsius or Fahrenheit.

April 15, 2015
Great clock. The only downer is that the internal light is not real bright. But, I suppose that is a trade off to obtain a longer battery life.

Okay
March 13, 2015
Good for the price. The numbers are large and easily readable. However, it is made of cheap lightweight plastic and is hard to keep in the open position. The setting markings are also very hard to read; they are black and VERY small. I am keeping it, but don't love it.
Works well, easy to use and see at night. Flimsy door/stand base
April 13, 2014
Looking for a travel clock for my kids similar to an older Timex travel clock I've had for years. The Elgin is close but not a nice a form factor as the old Timex. The Elgin is very easy to use and functions perfectly - its just thicker and a bit flimsier than the old Timex. The front cover which folds back to be the base when you set the clock on a stand is very thin and the weakest spot I'm concerned about. The number and buttons are large and easy to see and use.
Not Quite As Expected
March 16, 2014
A couple of things I wished I had known about this clock before I ordered it (because if I had, I wouldn't have ordered it). It's much thicker than my old one (a Timex Indiglo Travel Alarm Clock that looks a lot like this one and is of a similar design) that I was hoping to replace with this one - probably twice as thick. It's 7/8 of an inch thick. More importantly, while it does have a folding stand which doubles as a cover when traveling, the cover only covers the control buttons on the front. It does not cover the plastic display which I suspect will become scratched with time (pardon the pun!). The cover has a cut-out portion so that you can always see what time it is, but who needs to see the time when the clock is packed away in a suitcase? I was hoping the cover was solid (once again, like my old Timex) so that it would protect the display as well.I have to confess that I was so put off by the extra thick size and lack of protective cover, that I haven't even put batteries in it and have no idea how well it runs. I am going on a trip soon and will try it out and report back if there is a problem.
Have Had Better
December 28, 2013
Keeps accurate time but setting the alarm and hearing it are just so so. Tiny black raised lettering on a black surface make it a challenge to know if your setting the clock or alarm. Blue light is pleasant but the alarm off/on indicators are difficult to read without tilting the clock to various positions to see it. Alarm is pretty weak unless you are a light sleeper.
Very soft alarm sound!
November 14, 2013
The alarm was too quiet to wake me....though I'm not that sound a sleeper. Very very soft alarm. Other than that, it was fine....but it is an alarm clock!!! No other purpose for me....so it wasn't a good purchase. Luckily I was in Africa and they beat drums at my door to wake me every morning....Who knew I didn't need an alarm clock!?
I was disappointed by this clock.
October 23, 2013
The picture shows the clock lit up, however the clock only lights up when you press the button. Otherwise the clock does not light up at night. I bought this with the express purpose of using it at night and during the day. Lesson learned some things you are just better off to buy in person. The clock does function great.

the display is low-contrast and not crisp like another atomic clock that we own. so it is often hard to read the time without turning on the backlight or making a concerted effort to look at the display in good light.

January 20, 2017
I wanted to like this clock because of the solid build and easy to read numbers. Unfortunately when I tested the alarm it was not nearly loud enough to wake our teenager. An equally important issue was that the clock does not have a manual way of setting the current time for your timezone. The clock is supposed to receive a signal from Colorado to calibrate the time and mine never set the proper time.
Displays handy information
August 27, 2016
This atomic bedside alarm clock displays much useful information. It is not the smallest clock. Once temporarily set in the window "facing Colorado" overnight, it caught the atomic radio transmission and has maintained that while on the bedside dresser ever since. This clock serves the 4 continental USA time zones. Directions come with this, and should be maintained for setting all the displays. The clock is given 3 stars instead of 5, because of the display being a little pale to read due to the clock sitting on a dresser higher than the bed. Also the snooze alarm can only be repeated a limited number of times before quitting. One needs to wake up and get up promptly, or risk oversleeping. There is no included travel case. Two AA batteries must be purchased and inserted. Otherwise, this seems to be a good enough bedside clock.
Clock does not adjust to daylight savings time. If it doesn't have a signal it isn't DST aware
March 19, 2016
I gave the clock the benefit of the doubt, but noticed a week after daylight saving time changed that it was showing the wrong time.I understand that it needs a signal to set with atomic time, but my $10 plastic watch from walmart changes for DST automatically I expected the same from this. The clock beeps for 1 minute and then resets to the next day. If you are a heavy sleeper get something else.Otherwise it's a nice display and a decent clock.

Alarm won't go off reliably
July 30, 2016
Sad to leave a bad review... but after a few weeks of using this clock, the alarm failed to go off on time. I was really frustrated by this and tried multiple times to set the alarm with the "on" button in just the right place. It made no difference if it was directly in its spot, or toggled slightly left or right. Now the alarm just seems to work intermittently, and even if the little bell shows up on the screen, sometimes it still doesn't go off at the right time.
They don't make them like the old days
April 6, 2016
I ordered this travel alarm clock Sept 26 2015 to replace my Timex clock that worked for 15 years. This clock has more or less the same size, shape and functions of the Timex but I am really disappointed that this clock has only functioned for 7 months. First the night light function quit working and not the alarm no longer functions. It still keeps the time OK but that is pretty much useless for travel if the light and alarm does not work. So now I am in search of a replacement.

The numbers were too faint .... Various tries with fully charged rechargeable batteries, new disposables, & other known working batteries did not resolve the problem; I could only see the #s at a particular, inconvenient angle.
Disappointment
May 22, 2015
The clock is easy to set, but the display is too dim, especially at an angle, and the snooze interval seems limited to 4 minutes, which turned out to be too short. When traveling, I now use my smartphone with a flexible app and a good stand instead.
A Disappointment
April 28, 2014
I spent far too much time looking for a replacement for my old Remington travel alarm, being passed from one seller to another, eventually selecting this product. The biggest shock is the blue light. It will nearly put your eyes out in the dark. In addition, it is not all that easy to use. I continue to be amazed by the vast variety of lousy travel alarm clocks available. You can burn up a day looking through all the difficult-to-use digital wizz-bang gizmos with horrid alarm sounds and dim lights. I am still looking, since this thing is a disappointment.
Elgin Travel Alarm
April 17, 2014
I bought it to replace a broken Brookstone clock I've had for years. I use it beside the bed and didn't want a large clock. The light was blue, which was different from old clock (green), but fine. What is driving me crazy is the fact that the button you have to tap to see the time (same type of feature as the old Brookstone) is on the front of the clock instead of on top. You can't just reach out and push the button as the clock is too light and just scoots across the nightstand. So, it's a two handed operation. Not good. Of course I have tossed out the container it came in, so I'm stuck with it. Won't use it, but stuck with it. I have since replaced it with a top button clock.

Not Enough Display Contrast; Alarm Volume Too Soft
September 5, 2017
The letters and numbers in the display are not in full contrast to the background and are thus not as easy to read as they should be. The low contrast is particularly a problem at night, even with the night light is turned on with the switch in the battery compartment. The most significant problem that I found was that the alarm volume is quite soft. It failed to wake me up, and I am not that deep a sleeper.
Clock confused. Not visible at night.
August 9, 2017
Hated it. Couldn't read it at night, which was really important to us. Plus it couldn't figure out where we lived. It was an hour off.
Problematic for night use
March 24, 2017
Yes, it works well as a clock, was easy to program and synched into the radio time feed overnight. It's daytime display has excellent contrast and is very easy to read. Why then do I not like it? The back light turns the clock from one with a wide viewing angle to one with limited vertical viewing. This makes it nearly impossible to see from straight on, made worse by having the display tilted back, a design "feature" of the case. Viewing has to be at least 20 degrees above the clock for it to be readable at night. This makes it terrible for a bed stand or on a shelf that is not lower then your seating or resting position. It probably will work well as a desk clock. As a travel clock, it will probably be unreadable, as most hotels have the night stand a little higher than the bed, making it unreadable, unless you tilt it down when you want to see more than a solid orange screen. I am likely to return it before my return window ends.
VERY DISAPPOINTING
March 13, 2017
This clock fails to adjust for DST. It has now been 33 hours since the time change and no change to the time on the clock. Perhaps it's not receiving the time signal, but it gives no indication of that. VERY DISAPPOINTING. I was hoping for an accurate clock I would not have to constantly adjust. This isn't it.
Nice design, but useless on the East Coast.
January 8, 2017
I bought this clock to replace a 15-year old model from Oregon Scientific on which the Electroluminescent Backlight has died. I like all the features built into this clock. The display is designed with larger numbers than my old Oregon Scientific model, making it easier to read at night with my eyeglasses off. The nightlight is useful in a darkened room, and the built-in thermometer is an added bonus. Now onto the reason I'm returning this clock: The radio in it is "weak as water", to use a British phrase I'm quite fond of. Sitting in the exact same location next to my bed where my Oregon Scientific Atomic Time Desk Clock was always able to get a usable signal for synchronizing, this clock's radio is unable to pick-up anything. Granted, I'm on the East Coast, where the signal is weaker due to distance from the transmitter, but I have 2 other Radio-Controlled Atomic Time Clocks AND a Casio G-Shock Waveceptor Atomic Time Watch that are all able to get a usable signal in my home with no trouble. A Radio-Controlled Atomic Time Clock that can't synchronize is absolutely USELESS, so I'll be sending it back this week and trying a different model from a different brand. Hopefully it will have a better radio in it.
Weak receiver of signal
December 26, 2016
It is difficult to get this clock to sync with the atomic time. You have to set it right next to a window. Even if it is just a few feet away from the window, it seems unable to lock onto the signal. Other atomic clocks I've owned in the past have never had this problem. Also the temperature function always give a higher than actual reading. I have two other thermometers in the room, and this is the only one that is inaccurate. It always displays temperatures 3-4 degrees above the correct temperature.

Glow light stops working, Snooze is too short, and Red flash is a horrible way to wake up.
October 4, 2016
After only 10 months, the glow light button on this clock no longer works. That means I have to turn on the light to check the time in the dark, which defeats one of the main qualities of this clock. This is not a battery issue, as I tried to make it work with a fresh set of batteries. That is the primary reason for only one star - my last alarm clock's glow function lasted for over fifteen years.Another issue is the 4 minute snooze. 4 minutes is far too short, and I just feel like the alarm is constantly going off. Also, the glaring red screen during the alarm is angry and alarming (har har), and not a pleasant way to wake up. After trying to like this alarm clock for the last 10 months, I've just decided it's awful and I'm going to have to hunt for a new one.
Waste of money!

Do not purchase. I bought to use for a trip and never opened it because I didn't have a need. I finally opened it to use and put in batteries it doesn't even light up, the whole purpose for buying. I'm beyond return period so I am suck with this useless clock. Complete disappointment
Wired incorrectly
November 23, 2015
This is 2nd one of these I've owned. First one worked fine but this one is wired incorrectly. When you set it to "alarm off" to simply show the time, instead it shows the alarm setting and works like the "alarm set" function (so if you touch the hour or minute key the alarm time changes). So there is no way to just see the time when the alarm is set to off. Which basically makes it completely useless.
ALARM CLOCK FAILURE
May 25, 2015
Bought this alarm clock about 8 weeks ago for a trip to Europe. Three days into the trip the clock failed. I'd try to set the alarm time and the digital numbers would just keep rotating through 12 hours. Impossible to set the alarm time! Based on my experience, I do not recommend this digital alarm clock.
Bought 2 both died.
May 5, 2014
Bought 2, so I'd have a backup. Wanted to have a battery operated alarm around in case I was travelling or just really needed a full-proof method in case my phone didn't work for some reason. Think work, planes and trains. One didn't work from the start-the display sputtered and flashed. The second didn't make it thru a 1-2 week trial and just died. The first was used and the second was new. I returned them both for refunds. 5 stars for Amazon.
RECENT SHIPPMENT OF THIS PRODUCT HAS QUALITY PROBLEM . IT WAS Nice - Reliable What a Shame!
February 24, 2014
I have ordered 2 of this Elgin Travel Alarm Clock last year (one perhaps earlier this year). Both worked fine. While the alarm sound is not too loud but is enough so long as there is a backup or a wake up call. It also has nice warranty too! So, I recently have placed an order for a third unit for my wife. The first one arrived with the hinge stuck, which means the clock cannot be collapsed for travel. So, I returned it to Amazon.com. The replacement unit was electronically defective, after setting up the time, the clock advances for about 1 or 2 minutes and it stopped. Tried it again with a fresh battery. Same problem was noted. Apparently, there is no quality control in China whatsoever. It should be okay for me to say this, because I was born in China! It is a shame that the quality has gone down hill quickly with its initial successful introduction of this product.

What time is it?

Can't tell if it's dark. Has to activated for the screen to light. Makes it useless when trying to find out time in the night.
Lousy quality

Barely lasted 8 months, now it's not working at all.

March 28, 2017
I live in Hawaii and in the middle of the night - it will adjust the time to Pacific Time Zone (no matter what I do). Set the alarm for 5 am in the evening and it wakes me at 2 am - because it has adjusted to Pacific Time in the middle of the night.
Not good for heavy sleepers - Alarm too short in duration
February 8, 2017
The alarm doesn't go off for long enough. I think it's only a minute or two. I can sleep through it. I don't understand an alarm clock that stops after a minute or two.

This item never worked. It was broken from the start. By the time I used it, it was past the window for returning it. Now I'm stuck with this piece of junk!!! How convenient for the seller....BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!!!
Alarm repeatedly fails to sound once set.
October 7, 2016
The Alarm on the clock I purchased is not reliable. It failed to sound after set. This has happened three times now and I have only used it a dozen times.
