Easy to use!
June 12, 2017
I have never owned a mandoline before, but this one is GREAT. I love all the slicing options, the easy adjustment, and the stability overall. Also, the finger guard generally works really well. Finally, I can make the dishes with thinly sliced veggies, potatoes, etc, and have them look semi-OK. :)

It cleans easily, is definitely sharp, and I am going to try using it tonight to make some roasted sweet potato fries!
love it, but be careful slicing
November 23, 2015
be careful ., that's my advise., the blades are sharp... love it, but be careful slicing.. fingers fingers fingers.... works really fast, easy to clean - I simply just rinse it under cold water with no soap, clean it immediately after each use. not really good for tomatoes ... but any harder veggies - potatoes , beets, carrots, onions , squash, peppers etc works good.
And store it always on "lock closed" position - that way you avoid cutting yourself by grabbing the cutter from the shelf (in other positions the blade is raised between 1/8 of an inch to up to 1/2... (or something like that - just waiting there for your thumb..)).
One of my favorite tools. Never knew I needed it.
January 27, 2015
Love this thing for slicing my food in uniform slices. Potatoes and other root vegetables, tomatoes, and apples. It is fun and easy. Just place the item to be sliced on the plane and set the dial for the desired thickness.

I had never grown up with one of these tools and only recently came to learn how truly helpful it is. I love using it on raw and fresh fruits and veggies to make salads or even "chips" of fresh raw foods to munch upon. I also use it to slice my "potato chips" that I cook in my microwave and make healthy chips without oil.

Be certain to use the hand guard. I've sliced a finger or two and even sliced the tips off special metal gloves. It isn't worth the pain, so be careful

Comes apart easily and can be easily washed.

I gave up and gave one to my daughter in law so she would let me keep mine at my house.
First mandolin that really works as it should!
September 15, 2014
The sharp V-shaped blades cuts so much better than any straight-blade mandolin I have ever owned, and the device is easy to clean. Also the various "stops" on the thickness dial make it easier to return to a previous setting than a simple "screw" setting. It also works if one places the mandolin flat over a large bowl instead of using the leg. My only complaint is that - sharp as the blade may be - they don't easily cut through the skin of a ripe juicy tomato. So I still have to slice my tomatoes by hand using a serrated knife. Also, keep it away from children because it is easy to cut oneself.
it does cut cabbage
May 27, 2014
I wanted to use a slicer for cabbage and checked all the reviews on many, cabbage slicers very expensive or not adjustable,I wanted something to do about 2 dozen jars of sauerkraut ,yes this will be somewhat slower as you must quarter the cabbage however I tried this thing out and made slaw the other day,it took a little effort the first time out experimenting with the cut I wanted but it is pretty simple after you figure it out, BOY where has this thing been all my life,I have always tried the Bobby flay knife cutting on all veggies ,never could get cabbage or carrots to a consistant size that enhanced the dish, well long story short, this thing is sharp and cuts equal slices, adjustable cuts, made of hard plastic and I think will last me a long time.I think that this thing is sharp and you need to watch fingers .I believe I made a good buy as this is a good price for what I got it for.

Good Quality. Sharp Blades. Requires Lots of Cleaning. Sometimes Knife is just easier. Still nice to have around.
July 26, 2016
This is my first mandoline. I've been wanting one for a while but until now, the price wasn't worth having one of these vs. using a knife.

Now that I have a son and I make him french fries at home and for a few other recipes, I like having it.

OXO is always a safe bet for quality and especially ergonomics and grips.

Overall, I like it a lot. I don't use it as often as I hoped, but when I do need it, it comes in very handy.

My only real complaint would be that the storage area for the various blades will get dirty and covered in food every time you use it. So you have to remove all the blades and pieces carefully, set them aside and do whatever you're doing. Then you have to place them back which can take a little getting used to. It's a bit of a pain so I stopped storing them inside the main body and just leave them loose.

The blades themselves are very sharp and it does everything it says it will. Making french fries and Julianne cuts are extremely easy. If you are making a dish that requires a lot of vegetable sliced up, then this will save you time.

However, this also requires a good amount of cleaning and special attention because of the sharp blades. So some of that time saved is spent cleaning it and driving it properly.

Still, it's worth it when you're making french fries or something fun that would normally take a ton of time and every piece is nicely uniform.

The overall construction is very nice and it will last a long time. I've had mine for over a year now. The blades are still sharp and everything works great.

Anyone with decent knife skills though, can do most of this if you're not going to be using it often or making large amounts of shredded or sliced food.

Obviously I'm a bit on the fence if it was worth the cost and time and effort vs. using this mandolin. That's just me and nothing to do with the quality. It's very well made and I have zero issues with that.

I think I covered everything I wanted to say on this so... That's it!
A Little Slice of Finger
June 17, 2016
This works great! I didn't see alternative blades in my box, however. Also, PLEASE REMEMBER TO USE THE FINGER GUARD. I didn't use it the first time, and I cut my pinkie so badly, I had to go to the emergency room. Eek!

Other than that, it's fine.

This is a great product. I purchased it to make uniform cuts for my dehydrator and it works very well. The only draw back is for large or long items- For example if you want to make big/long slices of sweet potato for dehydrator dog snacks. The slices get stuck on the back of the unit while trying to exit. It's hard to explain, but each one kind of gets stuck. It's not a deal breaker but it could be better. Other than that I really like this product.
More options than my old one.
August 31, 2014
I bought this to replace an old plastic Boehner Mandoline that doesn't offer many options but has performed for over 20 years. I still like the clean cuts of my old one, but have found that over all I'm pleased by the performance of this mandoline. I like the added slice width options and that the blade inserts store in the mandoline frame. I still have to try the larger size cut available with this mandoline for cutting french fries. Sometimes, though, larger vegetables don't cut cleanly due to collisions with the storage space under the cutting surface. Also, the storage of the additional blades makes this mandoline a bit more bulky and awkward to use. Still, I'm looking forward to using this mandoline exclusively.
OXO Mandoline slicer works well
July 16, 2014
The slicer appears to be well built and has performed up to our expectations. We have not used the different blades so far. We were searching for a slicer that had an infinite range of thickness settings but that doesn't seem to exist. However, the OXO with it's 1/16" thru 1/4" in 1/16" increments is doing what we want. We use it primarily for slicing zucchini and squash for drying into chips - an extremely labor intensive endeavor even with the slicer. You might want to try slicing a whole onion for your burgers using the thinnest setting. Friends who usually say no to the onions have said they enjoy the almost see thru thin slices.
The blades are wicked sharp and slice almost without effort. At first I thought my veggie had slid over the blade without cutting but when I looked under the device I saw slices piling up with every pass. The food holder will work with most shapes which is a good thing as it will slice a finger so cleanly you won't know it until you start bleeding. Stuff like zucchini which are 5-6" long and only 1" in diameter are among the toughest to hold. We ended up doing those by hand and never trying to get those last few slices.
Cleaning is fairly easy although there are a lot of parts to disassemble as the extra blades are stored within the body. Everything but the blades goes into the dishwasher upper rack. Instructions say to hand wash the blades. Again, be careful! It's a good idea to keep the instructions handy the first few times you take it completely apart because there's a lot of pieces to put back together. The slicer itself folds into a nice compact shape for storage leaving the food holder as the only odd piece. Don't know that any design could fix that.
Our slicer was delivered within one week and was neatly and securely packaged.

Too many parts, but does the job
June 4, 2016
It definitely slices, but I feel like it probably didn't need to have like 19 parts. Cleaning the thing is **literally** a dozen step process, according to the directions. Take this off, now take this off, now slide this off, now put this over here...

It's lightweight, very sharp, and does the trick. I'd have liked to have some thicker settings. For french fries, the thickest cut I can get is still thinner than fast food fries.

Slice quite well. I haven't gotten perfect results but I'm sure a bit of practice will help. (I've used it maybe 5 times, about once a month.)

However, there's a huge number of parts and complexity and the thing is tough to wash and so on. The blades are incredibly sharp, but that also means you're at danger of cutting yourself when the part you're holding it buy suddenly swings away. If you're not using it every day you may not get the practice it takes to use is safely AND quickly.

Arrived on time. Very well made. Clever storage system which is a bit difficult to figure out. The user instructions are useless. The big problem is that it makes very skinny french fries. Too small for us. I would almost call them julienne. Making french fries was my main reason for buying this so I'm disappointed. Otherwise it's a well designed sturdy tool.
Much larger than I expected
August 28, 2013
As a mandoline, I love this thing. The adjustable blades are super, although I admit I haven't tried to change them yet. From other reviews, I'm guessing that may be more work than it's worth. I have had no problems with getting even slices, regardless of the hardness or size of the food I am slicing.

My main complaint (and why I didn't give it 5 stars) is that I was assuming this was something that I could collapse the legs on, rinse off, and hang on a hook on my kitchen wall. Boy was I wrong! It takes up quite a bit of space in a cabinet or drawer, which means that I don't use it as often as I might. If I just have a few things to slice, it's much faster to just use my chef's knife on the cutting board.
It works great.... NOW that I have one that works!
June 8, 2013
The first one I received had a factory defect, the "lock" for the slice thickness was defective and did not work at all. My concern now is how long will this one hold up? IF it holds up and after getting to use it a couple times it does work very well, it is easy to set and all the blades store in the unit so you only have to put away the main unit and the food holder which I really like. (I store it in the original box.) IF... IF it holds up I will upgrade it to four stars after some usage time. I received the replacement unit about June 5th.... after buying another one to use because I was informed I would not get the replacement until JULY 9th, then July 5th.... OH WELL... they both begin with a J.... 8-)

Consider the NORPRO... it works very well too and at half the cost.

I like that the slicers inserts all fit into the unit ...
July 26, 2017
The item shipped timely and all stated pieces are accounted for. I like that the slicers inserts all fit into the unit but the main reason I wanted this was so I could julienne carrots. Given what I wanted this for, the first slicer I tried was, of course, the julienne slicer. After only one use, on one single medium sized carrot, the slicer base and the julienne slicer is stained orange, as though it's been in use for years! I have washed the pieces several times and cannot remove the stain. Who wants a brand new product to look like a hand-me-down from grandma? Disappointed. Am considering returning.
Disappointing
January 25, 2016
I was super excited to get this mandolin, and I've given it some time to see if I can make it work, but it's not cutting it (no pun intended). It seems to have a hard time cutting even slices, and when trying to slice on the smallest setting (1/6") I couldn't get anything but a few tissue thin half-slices to come through, so I gave up on that setting. I tried slicing beets to make beet chips on the 1/8" setting and couldn't get whole rounds to come through, and what slices did come through were drastically uneven - thin on one end, thick on the other. The plastic base seems to bend a little under pressure when slicing, which might be why the slices come out uneven.

Switching out the inserts is also a little precarious, because you have to put your fingers really close to the blades to snap in some of the inserts. I never cut myself, but it always made me a little nervous.
Too complicated for my needs
July 14, 2015
When I got this I realized that it would be too complicated to use, clean and store so I returned it. The simpler Kyocera adjustable mandolin slicer works better for me when I need to do a little quick fine slicing, for instance red onions in a salad. And if I need to do a larger batch of something I would reach for my food processor.
Too complicated to clean
March 27, 2015
I really, really wanted to love this! It actually works great, but the darn thing has so many different pieces attached to the base that you have to take everything apart to clean it. Taking it apart and reassembling is like working a bit puzzle. I end up only using it when I have a big party, otherwise it's too time consuming to clean. I wish the whole thing was simpler.
Not what I was hoping for
February 23, 2014
I have been wanting to make lots of apple and sweet potato chips (plus others). So I wanted to get the perfect cut. Sadly I didn't get that with this because everything came out lopsided. Half would be thin and the other half would be thick. And that is so frustrating when your baking them or dehydrating them. I was really disappoint to spend the money on it and I kept giving it the benefit of the doubt and it never rose to the occasion. Will definitely keep searching for one that suits my needs.

I did like the storage areas on this product!

This gadget is dangerous and clumsy.
January 25, 2017
What a disappointing product!! My husband is a whiz in the kitchen and cooks dinner every night. But even in the "locked safe" position, this thing literally cut a huge chunk of my husbands thumb clear off. The blade storage is clumsy and it takes up a lot of space in the cupboard. If it hadn't been covered in so much blood, I would have returned it. Instead it went right in the trash. Some Christmas gift THAT turned out to be.

This is a weapon. I would not recommend it. The way it is designed you can slice of your skin in no time. I was most cautious about using it and so were two of my other colleagues. We all got our fingers sliced and had blood gushing out all over the place even though we had our potato almost only a quarter way done. The safety device provided does not give you a good grip. I will never recommend this to anyone.
don't buy this if you are not a skilled mechanic!
April 3, 2016
This is an OK slicer – nothing special – but trying to take it apart to clean it or change the blades requires a very skilled mechanic. I could never figure it out – so I gave up and returned it. Bought the oxo simple mandoline slicer instead. You just throw it in the dishwasher. That's MY kind of appliance!
Returned

I use mandolins for veggie chips and this could not take it. It could not make one clean round slice. It had so many slice thickness options on this cheap plastic knob it slips constantly. Maybe of you only did softer things like strawberries...
The Worst Kitchen Appliance we ever purchased
April 7, 2014
My wife wanted a mandolin. We researched those available. Unfortunately we selected this Oxo brand based on Oxo's reputation. The thing is nearly worthless to us. It is hard to use, impossible to clean and produces uneven results at best. My wife and I agree that it is much easier to use a knife for all our slicing needs. I would love to return it.
