Works Great on Xbox One.
September 25, 2016
I purchased this drive, and also a Orico drive enclosure to use as an external storage option for my Xbox One. I've had my Xbox since launch, and recently have been running into storage issues on its 500gb internal drive.

After installing, and uninstalling games often when a newer game comes out, i was faced with 2 options: Buy an external drive or a new Xbox all together.
I chose the simpler and cheaper former.

The drive was super simple to setup and install on the Xbox. All i had to do was slide it into the enclosure i purchased with it, plug it into the xbox, and plug it into the outlet... Thats it! Xbox recognized it right away, and formated it for use.

Along with increasing my storage 4x, the drive is actually much faster than the HDD internal drive. This means games load faster. I see a huge decrease in load times for certain games. For example, I play World of Tanks a lot, and have noticed I am now one of the first people who load into the map. There is a 5-10 second difference in how quickly I load the map now. Its not an advantage, but its nice not staring at the load screen for so long.

The drive is fast, quiet, easy to install, and has a great price. Super happy with purchase.

Great Deal!

Installed this into a 2011 27" IMAC with 32 GB of RAM and it performs flawlessly. If you run a game requiring a lot of graphics the machine will get hot, but I think this is more a function of the IMAC, not the HDD. A separate thermal cable was required to keep the CPU fan from running at full blast all the time. With the extra space I am able to transfer all of my home movies from VHS to my computer, using Imovie.
Why Haven't You Bought his Yet?!?!
August 7, 2016
When looking to upgrade a hard drive in your game console, there are many brands, types and sizes to choose from. I recently ran out of space in my PS4 and needed to upgrade fast but I did not want to make a rash decision just because I needed more space. I did plenty of research and decided that the best drive for me was this "Seagate 2TB Desktop Gaming SSHD(Solid State Hybrid Drive) SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive (ST2000DX001)." As it was available through prime, it shipped very quickly and arrived in perfect working condition.

The drive looks just as pictured and no additional screws or modifications were needed as it utilizes the same hardware as the stock drive. Combined with the NYKO hard drive upgrade kit, the uninstalling of the old and installing of the new drive took 10 to 15 minutes. Being solid sate and Hybrid, means that it operates much more efficiently than the stock drive and is even more quiet. When Sony updated the OS to 3.50, they fixed the issue with any drive over 2TB going into rest mode but since this is the 2TB version, there was no issue at all. The drive is so fast!! There is no hesitation going from one program or game to the next and makes me wonder why I waited so long to finally upgrade. Like I said earlier, I know that there are a lot of choices, and separately I know that historically, Seagate was not known for making quality drive, but this as completely changed my opinion and should the time come for me to upgrade again, Seagate will be the first place I look.
A fast, reasonably priced SSD-HD SATA drive that's a "Bottleneck Breaker"!
February 10, 2016
I was starting to wonder why things slowed down on my fast machine with an SSD boot drive and 32GB of RAM? Was it my external Firewire800 and USB 3 drives? People had said they were supposed to be very fast, especially the new USB 3 standard with all the right cabling, etc. Were they not really as fast as advertised? I though the way to really see is invest in a new, guaranteed fast hard drive, so I ordered this SSD-HD SATA combo drive from Amazon. It was the recommendation of a good friend, who is the head of a university computer science IT department. He said he preferred them over SSD or HD solutions, since they are fast and can also be large capacity drives and I have always had a good experience with Seagate products.

I followed his advice and my whole system is running along smoother and measurably quicker. Faster overall drive response time with a setup with an internal SSD boot and application drive and this drive as the primary scratch/cache media drive has my system humming along again. In my experience, beware of giant low priced multiple TB external drives that claim to be fast since they use USB3. What's the drive rotation speed, access time, what's needed for USB 3.0 to work at full speed in your system.

I found that If anything from cables, to the choice of USB hub to system software isn't just right, the speed will drop down to USB 2.0 speed. Even if that doesn't happen, SSD and HDSSD drives leave Firewire and USB 3.0 in the dust. I'm glad I listened to advice and paid a little more for this drive. My slower drives were creating delays and data bottlenecks in a powerful system!

This drive was a good investment, it's very quick, although not as fast as an SSD drive, but still very quick compared to my USB 3.0 and Firewire 800 drives. I would buy another one just like it if finances allowed. :-) Maybe another one just like this one, to create a RAID striped array built with SSD-HD SATA drives for mixing video in Adobe After Effects, rendering 3D or just bulk video format conversions! If you are a media artist or heavy media user you'll be happy with this drive.
Works with Playstation 4!! (needs Nyko Data Bank to work with PS4)
August 2, 2015
*** UPDATE April 2016 *** Playstation OS 3.50 fixed the 2TB drive size limit issue in PS4 Rest Mode. Rest Mode now works with drives larger than 2TB!!Fast, plug and play and works great with a Playstation 4 & Data Bank. Only problem is "Rest Mode" fails but that is the fault of the Playstation 4 and NOT this drive or the Nyco Data Bank. Very, very happy with this purchase! (See update above - Rest Mode now works!)

Great way to go for replacement drives.
May 23, 2017
I am replacing my hard drives with solid state drives. This is performing beautifully and it should last a lot longer than the original it replaced. I used it as a replacement drive for a Mac mini and I didn't have to remove the old drive. Just plugged this into the USB, mirrored the original backup onto it and I was back in business. I even put two of them with mirroring software to make it easier to get back up after a failure.
So far so good! This little device is way faster at loading ...
December 23, 2015
So far so good! This little device is way faster at loading my games then the internal spindle hard drive. I got it because I travel a lot, and my laptop's harddrive is slow. I only have games stored on it, so can't say how it would be for other things, but as far as games go, they load much more quickly now!
GREAT TECH SUPPORT
August 23, 2015
bought this credit card size 64gb ssd external drive for a project . it arrived on time and it worked as advertised for 2 weeks . then for a reasonI didn't understand it no longer was being recognized by my laptop or desktop . after a couple of emails i was given a RMA to return the drive.at first there tech department found nothing wrong and saw that i partitioned the drive . i didn't mention that so i knew they accessed the drive.i emailed them again that it was not being recognize on my desktop with 9 USB ports all internal with 3 external hdd drivers all working.they didn't give up and there persistence paid off with a email saying DUR it's the USB cable , the simplest thing that a tech would miss.in short they actually listened to me found the problem and returned the drive promptly . best tech support I've received in a while .
I run a second OS from this drive
February 3, 2015
This is a fantastic drive. I've got it velcro'd to my work laptop (which is heavily locked down) and I run ubuntu off it when not at work. This thing is Lightning fast. I can't tell that I'm running an OS off a USB port (granted my laptop does support 3.0) I only wish I had bought a bigger one.
Very pleased with this 64GB SSD Drive!
December 19, 2014
I use this drive on my rooted Fire TV as a replacement for the limited 8GB of internal storage. It works great and is very fast even when limited by a USB 2.0 connection. I've only had it for a couple of months, but this far it has been rock solid, and is well suited for its intended purpose.
Super Fast Drive; Works as a Windows 8 To Go Drive (After Some Tweaking)
September 15, 2014
This drive is super fast! I have an all-in-one touchscreen computer that has a 5400 rpm laptop drive inside. It had gotten so slow, even after de-fragmenting and fresh installing Windows 8, I was considering replacing it with an internal SSD. But they were fairly expensive. Then I came across this drive. It is much cheaper, per gig, than any of the internal SSDs I had found. It took some finagling, but I was able to set it up as a Windows To Go drive. The difference between the SSD and the 5400 rpm drive hosting Windows 8 is night and day.The USB3 cable that comes with it is quite short. :-/The one drawback I've had with the drive, which may be more of a computer issue rather than drive itself, is that when restarting the computer, it does not always get acknowledged by the BIOS. Since it is hosting the OS, I have to restart the computer a second time. After that, it has always been picked up on the second reboot. Thankfully, the drive is so fast, it's only a few extra seconds.

Modest speed increase
July 3, 2016
I guess it depends on the tasks you are doing. I'm not seeing a huge speed increase, but there is some, and that's great for the price. What really impresses me is the ease of installation. You would expect complex software requiring you to re-map certain files to the SSD, to optimize performance. This would raise questions and there would be no one to ask. But this drive seems to know how to allot its resources, so don't have to do anything.
Excellent, minor catch
July 1, 2016
SSHD TAKES TIME to perform. I got all nervous when initially, my pc booted up around the same time maybe even longer. I restarted 5x in a row and it kept getting better. 3 months or so in though, and I will admit that the startup is nowhere near as advertised. Its closer to HDD than SSD. But with some specific things, like witcher 3, the difference is NIGHT AND DAY. Super crazy fast loading times.

O ya, and 2TB = never care about space again
this is your best option (1 or 2tb)

Seagate 1TB Desktop SSHD(Solid State Hybrid Drive) SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive (ST1000DX001)I didn't see this kind of speed test and I think this is very important. As you can see the difference between my SSD and the SSHD is enormous, but the difference between the WD Green and the SSHD is not too big, in additional I can say than my SSHD is a little unstable in the read process and always I get different results with CrystalDiskInfo, thing that not happen with the other 2 disk, I always get similar results with them. But well, while I'm playing I can't see any difference between my SSD and SSHD.1 day for error I installed a game in my WD Green and I get a lot of stuttering, so, If you want this SSHD for install all your library from steam, this is your best option (1 or 2tb).BTW, sorry for my english.

A great hard drive for PS4 or others

Works great on the PS4. Just format it to exFAT and you're good to go. My PS4 even boots faster, almost instantly after pressing the PS button. This is a good performing hard drive. I recommend it 100%.
Installing the Seagate 4TB SSHD SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive (ST4000DX001) into a 10 year old system
September 7, 2015
It's Sept 7 2015 and I purchased the Seagate 4TB SSHD SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive (ST4000DX001) to upgrade my HP Desktop PC. I'm excited about this drive but I had some problems with the install which I will detail here. I followed the YouTube video at this address: [...] This looks like a great solution for Windows 7 systems that support GPT. But my system doesn't support GPT or UEFI BIOS so that introduced some challenges to the install. I'm upgrading my HP Pavilion Elite m9177c Desktop, BIOS Revision 5.43 09-10-2009, ASUS IPIBL-LB (Benicia) Motherboard, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti, Windows 7 64bit system with a Seagate 4TB SSHD SATA - ST4000DX001. Apparently my HP doesn't support GPT and therefore won't recognize the new drive as single volume. It doesn't support GPT because it's BIOS is a Legacy BIOS instead of the newer UEFI BIOS required to support drive over 2.2TB. The new 4TB SSHD is recognized but has to be divided into 2 partitions under 2.2TB each. The Seagate DiscWizard software then adds a Seagate Driver to support the full 4TB capacity but just has to partition the drive into 2 partitions. In addition, I was having some difficulty getting the 2nd half, that is, remaining unallocated space to be recognized and therefore DiscWizard was not adding the required Seagate Driver. Researching this problem I discovered that if your system uses Intel RST (Rapid Storage Technology) it has to be version 10.2 or higher. My system was running RST version 9 series. Therefore I went the the Intel Website and downloaded the latest Intel RST version (14) and installed it on my HP Pavilion. That then allowed the remaining 2TB of the 4TB SSHD to be recognized. So everything was cool but I just had two partitions - I was hoping for 1 large 4TB partition. The reason I bought this drive was to replace my 300GB System Drive C which was getting full. So now that I had the new drive fully recognized I CLONED drive C to the new 2TB partition. I was seeking a BOOT Drive with the full 2TB partition but what got was 2 Partitions. The first partition was the BOOT partition of 288GB. The second partition was the remainder of the 2TB partition. At this point I was puzzled as to how I ended up with this 2 partition clone result on the new drive. The 1st partition was the size of the original drive C 288GB and was full. The 2nd partition contained 8.43GB of data and the remainder was empty. Upon a closer look I realized that my source drive C actually contained 2 Partitions - Drive C and Drive E. So DiscWizard was simply cloning both partitions to the new drive. The 2 partitions of my original source consisted of the Boot partition drive C 288GB and a System Factory Image Drive E on a small 9.71GB partition. So I used Windows Disk Management to delete the System Factory Image - Drive E and then Extended the Boot Partition C to use the full 300GB capacity for drive C. Then I redid the clone using the manual option so I could control and verify the partition configuration. I used the Proportional Clone Option from the manual method which copied Drive to the new 2TB partition. This was exactly what I wanted. So now I have the full 2TB Partition as Drive C. I then shutdown the PC and unplugged the original Drive C and plugged the new drive 4TB drive and rebooted from the new 2TB partition. The system is running great. So it was a lot of work on my 10 year old PC but it was possible. I didn't get to use the full 4TB as Drive C but the 2TB Drive C will work just fine for me.

MyDigitalSSD OTG, fast, portable drives that arent a chore to carry!
July 26, 2015
This little drive is so much nicer than hauling around 2.5" drives for external use. The speed does not suffer from being USB, and is even adequate on USB 2.0 ports...I DID find one backward-compatability issue on USB2.0, when trying to install ubuntu server the installer could not detect the drive until it was connected to a USB3.0 port. After installation, it ran fine on the very same USB2.0 ports that it could not be found on earlier. Makes a great "boot drive" for debugging systems....you can hardly tell its an externally connected drive, much faster than using old flash drives for the same purpose. (suitability for bootable use depends mostly on the operating system, but keep in mind that usb2.0 problem i mentioned earlier) I did not notice any heat buildup from using the device as a bootable drive, even after extended periods uf use. The detachable cable is also nice, as it makes it less likely that you will damage drive or port from accidental movement.
Great for the size and price
June 26, 2015
I bought this to act as a persistant boot disk for Linux distros and lots of small source code files. So the 4K transfer speeds for this were the most important thing for me. After running CrystalDiskMark, I found that while the sequential speeds for uncompressed files(worst case scenario) top out at 292.MB/s Read & 145MB/s Write, 4K goes to 23MB/s Read & 45MB/s Write. So while the large file size transfers were slower for the 64GB than the 256GB model, small files should read and write at a more brisk pace. I'm happy with the price and the capacity is enough for its intended purpose here.Edit: I can't get the computer to use this drive as a bootdisk. I have an ASUS X79-DELUXE motherboard. Fairly high-end with lots of options. I've tried different ports and disk formatting options to no avail. It's a great drive otherwise although I'll have to drop it a star as I was really looking forward to booting Linux distros off it.
BUYER BEWARE!!!! DIED AFTER 6 MOS.

I bought this for work. I have Mac OSX 10.10 installed on it.***Update***SSD just died. I have emailed the manufacturer twice now with no response. BEWARE before ordering. Has never been dropped or damaged.I will definitely NOT purchase another one from this manufacturer. I would advise others to get another one.
Fast but speed varies
July 14, 2014
I do like (almost love) MyDigitalSSD OTG. Every computer, including tablets, read this drive with without any problem. My usual flash & hard drives that are 2.0 plug into usb 2.0 ports transferred data from as high as 3mb/s to 8.0mb/s. MyDigitalSSD OTG 3.0 plug into usb 2.0 port transfers at rate of. 11mb/s to 28mb/s. MyDigitalSSD OTG 3.0 plug into usb 3.0 port transfers from 22mb/s to 60mb/s. 2 hour digital movie files 780p use to take 15 - 20 minutes now only takes 2 - 3 minutes. I didn't give it a 5 star rating because of the fact that there is wide range of variable in transfer speed. I recognize that part (if not much) of the issue could be my computer and what I may be running (and it could be running in the background without anyone's knowledge) but still I like to leave room for improvement in the next generation of portable SSD drives.

Drive worked great until 1 week after 30 day Amazon return policy ...
August 15, 2016
Drive worked great until 1 week after 30 day Amazon return policy expired! Some files are lost or garbled. Drive no longer completes boot sequence without failing. I re-cloned SSHD using Seagate utility without any reported errors and same intermittent boot-up behavior. I guess I have to try to go back to manufacturer to try get a new drive but I will never trust their SSHD's again. If I didn't make multiple backups I would have lost more than a month's work!

Update: Seagate Customer Service was GREAT. Replacement with a new drive was fast and hassle free. Time will tell how long new drive will last, but I have had HDs from other manufactures fail in the past. This is my first Seagate/Maxtor to fail and I currently have 3 other Seagate HDs (not SSHDs) running perfectly.
use at risk.
February 3, 2016
First I would like to state that I am sure most of the people buying this product will not experience what I did otherwise it would be money down the drain for Seagate and sellers/re-sellers. The drive is quick for the price and holds a lot of data and that had me hooked.... This product is a steal for that matter. If you are okay taking a risk then its a good deal Initially my review was huge but I summed it up with some bullet points.

* Does not play well with OS X (modern incarnations)
* Has been formatted for NTFS and HFS+ and others in between along with MBR and GPT combos or entirely one or the other.
* The original device still works (other brand) and still has the data (thank god). so reformatting and repairing the disk was not a huge scare for me.
* Fails with freezing, BSOD, loss of partition table or missing data and does so on the mac side or pc side even when not used between the both.
* Opten works after repairing but will need to be reformatted after.

I love this bread and others and am not trying to be rude. I say if the price fits and you can afford to then take the risk. just keep in mind that the issue is a risk and although I did use this device between operating systems I did use it in just one or the other just to be sure during testing after figuring out I had an issue.
Update - So So
December 9, 2015
I havnt had the drive for that long but so far so good. I use it as a secondary drive to hold steam games on my gaming desktop pc. I got it because its SSHD AND 7200 RPM. Most SSHDs are 5400 rpm

Its quiet and responsive. I cant say its a noticeable speed difference in the secondary drive role over my previous 7200 HDD but its definitely not slower. I use a 250gb SSD for my OS drive

One odd thing is that after I installed it, Windows 10 device manager shows it as a Toshiba drive. The seagate utility correctly identifies it though.
2TB gives me room to grow

ETA - I just needed to remove device from device manager and reboot pc and it then came up with proper ID in device manager - Ive run numerous tests using crystal diskmark to verify performance. At first scores were low. It was bothering me so I re-formated and re-copied data over. (I initially cloned old drive to new drive) Scores are now what I would expect. I've been thinking about buying a 1TB SSD drive to act as my secondary gaming drive but I would lose 1TB of capacity and im also told that ssd for gaming stores really doesnt provide much benefit, so I think I will be sticking with this drive

Update - I own several of these drives - One thing I have seen consistently in drive benchmarks is slow read time. I cant quit explain it but it bothered me so much that I began purchasing WD Black drives which have better benchmark numbers, I have never seen a firmware update available from seagate. They overall have a pretty bad rep in comparison to WD
and a great price - however..
March 12, 2015
quiet, fast, and a great price. Cant say much more than that. Im not an SSD user so I cant really compare, but I can say that my games run great and Ive had no issues with it.

*EDIT* After about 1.5 months of use the drive died and I will have to get it shipped to Seagate on my own dime for a replacement refurbed drive. Im going to try to fight it but I can definitely say through Seatools that the drive is not functional. Not sure if its a fluke but Im pretty upset about the purchase right now.

**EDIT 2** - moved the review up to 3 stars.
I called and complained to Seagate about the defective drive and how they originally wanted me to pay for it. They sent me a prepaid envelope and sent me a new drive instead of refurbished. I was happy it didn't take a long phone call to get that taken care of. When I received the drive I noticed, however, it wasn't my original drive. They sent me a non hybrid drive. I called again and the agent, who I must say was very nice and professional, apologized and investigated. She did see the mix up and said they didn't have any of the original model in stock (ST2000DX001) so they wound up sending me a 4TB Hybrid for no extra charge. That 4TB drive has been working solidly (no bad pun intended) but its only been about a month and a half since the I received the 4TB drive.

I know people say that SSDs are supposed to be longer lasting due to less moving parts however that has never been my experience. I also know that the problem with this particular drive may have been a mechanical failure. Im still at the point that, until the price point tips in their favor, I think I will be sticking with traditional drives. I may simply have a ton of bad luck but Im still not convinced the speed increases are worth the price bump.
Died after a month?!?!
December 16, 2014
eh....I've been a long time Seagate buyer and aside from their one or two generations of drives that were clearly lemons I've had good experiences with the products. But, I don't know what to make of this line of drives...

I have a higher-end Windows 7 64-bit machine which was working pretty well on a Seagate 7200.12 drive but the drive was 5+ years old and was starting to get a few reallocated sectors so I wanted to swap it out to be safe. I decided to go with this hybrid drive in hopes of shortening my boot time. I cloned the original drive to this new one, ran a full smart scan/surface scan as I always do on new drives and booted up. Everything seems great and after a few boot cycles the drive must have cached the critical stuff and my boot time dropped by 30 - 45 seconds. All seemed great until about 32 days in when I started getting random blue screens and the system would just randomly churn and hang; which it had never done before. I ran a couple of long and short smart tests on the drive and all passed so I assumed it must have been another driver upgrade I had done causing the issue. Over the course of a few days I rolled the updates back, ran system diagnostics, analyzed the dmp files, etc to no avail. By this point the system was now crawling at every task but yet the drive still passed the smart check and short smart test. I used another utility to look at the actual smart statistics and the drive had a bunch of reallocated sectors, 150+ of pending sectors and about 75 uncorrectable sectors.....how it was still passing the SMART tests I have no idea. It wasn't until after I tried stressing the drive that it finally failed the smart test.

Since it was now 40 - 45 days since I bought it I couldn't return to Amazon so I just bought a second to expedite resolving the issue. I cloned the original drive to the new hybrid and was able to copy the last 45days of files off failing drive before it completely bit the dust. The new drive works okay but I haven't gotten the performance boost I did with the original and it seems inconsistent in performance overall. Was hoping for more from Seagate.

Good results with USB 2.0
November 24, 2015
My 64GB (60 actual) was delivered with a bit less, but 58GB isn't bad. USB 2.0 transfer speeds in my old towers were pretty good, better than I've ever got with USB "sticks". I was disappointed with price drops within a couple of days of receiving mine, but so it goes. The USB cable sticks straight out in a stiff fashion, but right angle USB cables seem to have speed & QC issues, so I can understand that.No overheating problems with massive data transfers of 20+GB (via USB 2.0), it just got slightly warm. The USB cable is a very tight fit in mine, which is a good thing as it is too long to transport with the cable plugged in & it won't bend around it without making me worry about damage.First week of November 2015 the price dropped and the 128GB is now only $10 more @ $60, so I would go with that if I were you. My use is with older single, dual & quad core towers with XP & Win7 pro.The service department (Matt) answered my e-mail query prior to purchase in less than 3 days, so that's good too.

I can no longer play games without it sounding like a leaf blower
May 15, 2017
It's been about a year since I've purchased this product, and it is already breaking down. I can no longer play games without it sounding like a leaf blower, (yes, it is the hard drive making this noise, because it isn't present when playing games off my spare hard drive). Even everyday tasks such as watching youtube videos will occasionally cause it to ramp up, albeit not as bad as when gaming.
Two Drives in One? Nope.
July 24, 2016
This is definitely more of a "play" drive than a "workstation" drive. The 4TB version is slower than the 1TB and 2TB due to the limited spindle speed of 5900RPM. The flash portion, being the "awesome and fast" part of the drive helps for boot-up time, and only that. Your Photoshop or Premiere won't care about this hack. Have two, and both experienced failures within 12 months of action. They replace them with refurbished drives, which is a scam the mobile phone companies get away with as well.
Very disappointing...

I am speaking about the 1TB version of the the SSHD (ST1000DX001) I don't know if the 2TB and 4TB versions are the same. I am terribly dissappointed with this disk, I bought it to replace a 7200RPM Mechanical seagate (ST2000DM001) which has close to 200MB/s readings and it is still working fine... the reason I chose this model was because I was using the 2TB one to install games on it and I was not even close to have used 1 TB, so I decided to repurpose the 2TB into a storage one and get a faster one for the games, the concept was what I needed, A slightly faster HDD than a mechanical one for an affordable price. for my surprise, this SSHD has terrible reading speeds, mainly for small data blocks, it is only with really big data blocks that it starts to have a decent transfer rate. I don't know how nobody has complained about this, I really doubt it has to do with my system, I have tried changing SATA cables and ports and it's always the same, in the first Image you can see how it is struggling transferring data from one disk to another, what is funny is that the HDD receiving is a 5900RPM one connected via usb 3. The second image shows the terrible read speeds it has with smaller blocks. I'm going to contact seagate so I can have some direct answers on this behavior, because as it is, almost all games struggle with stuttering.
Faulty drive slowly gets worse over time
May 26, 2016
Worked normally for about 6 months, then slowly started having issues. Disc usage staying at 100%(hours), forcing me to restart a couple times a month to resolve it. Happened more and more frequently until it only took minutes after a restart to ramp disc usage up to 100% rendering the computer useless. Just outside of warranty as well. 2 stars because it did seemed to work as advertised, faster boot times and such. Replaced with a Seagate HDD and no problems since.
Disappointing

I was pretty psyched to get this drive as the prior drive I had been using in my desktop was getting a bit long in the tooth and seemed to be running slow. While I think this drive is significantly faster than my old drive, it suffers from constant stutters that are maddening. Waiting a bit to see if it is perhaps a driver issue but am planning on swapping out for a normal drive if there are no updates between now and mid-May.

Basically, the phenomenon I experience is that web pages, games, music (right now iTunes has skipped six times in the past two minutes) all stutter. Some hang hard, others just hang for a moment. Unacceptable either way. Given that nothing else on the box has changed, I would largely trace the issue to the hard disk, especially as the Seagate Windows tools cause the system to do the Blue Screen of Death despite me doing quite a few system health checks for Windows itself.

On the plus side, the Seagate Migration tools were pretty sweet. Interesting part was that I had to hook up the drive though before it would let me create a boot CD (weird) and even then it had some odd issues on detection. Got those resolved. It did take a bit of repair to ensure correct operation post-rollover but all in all, fairly slick I thought but nothing beyond what I expected having used Ghost and other tools in the past.

All in all, not a solid buy. I would be extremely hesitant to recommend this product to anyone and am hoping it can at least limp along until I figure out what to replace it with.

Okay for cheap storage
January 21, 2017
It's super fast compared to a regular flash drive, but you can do better buying an mSATA SSD from a legit company and a cheap USB enclosure, from a cost, reliability, and performance standpoint. I mean this drive may be fine if you you don't write to it a lot or format it more than a few times. The handful of these that I've purchased have died after a few months of light use. And I'm not doing anything weird to make them die quickly. After owning several of these drives, I can't believe how many positive reviews these have on Amazon.Bottom line: If you want moderately-fast external storage, and you have a copy of everything you store on it, the MyDigitalSSD external SSD may be okay. Just don't use it to store any data without a backup.*Disclaimer: I only bought these out of curiosity, since they looked like a good deal. I also have a tendency to break things.

The Real Seagate Snakes
June 22, 2017
As of today, the drive was kept in absolute perfect condition, in a server, 29c ambient air, humidity controlled, locked from vibrations.

Randomly with absolutely no signs, the drive does not spin up.

A year after its purchase the drive does not spin up,
So everyone is aware
After contacting seagate, they told me I could send it in and get a replacment through the warranty, this is useless as the drive holds critical data needed for operation of a support live collaboration portal for my buisness.

Upon telling them this, they tell me I can pay $800.00 USD to have my data recovered because their hard drive failed.

Long story short
Drive died although kept in a climate controlled enviroment and in perfect condition.
Contacted seagate
Seagate says too bad, pay me 800 for your data or go kick rocks and buy another.

Seagate horrific support for their defective harddrives, and will offer absolutely no help on recovering your data, except for sending you to their data recovery so they can make more money off the drive you just purchased because they know it's used to store critical data and they can use it as leverage against you.

As a Hardware Procurement for a computer company, I highly recommended AGAINST purchasing ANY SEAGATE HARDDRIVES.
Clicking seek of death, after just 6 weeks (11 days of power on).
October 16, 2016
Orig:
OMG, 6 weeks old, 287 power on hours (says 11 days), and now this drive is making the clicking seek of death sound (the other drive is an SSD, so I know this sound and program hang is due to this drive). Of course, the window to return through Amazon ended 2 weeks ago, so we'll see how well Seagate is on it's RMA process. Ironically, I bought this to avoid the impending death of a 3 year old WDC "green" drive, but it looks like I'll have to revert back to it for now!

Edit: So, RMA with Seagate means I pay shipping to get a "re-certified" (ie, someone else's defective drive that was returned) drive. Normally, I'd give this a chance, but other 1 star raters have said their RMA replacement drives have failed on them, too, and also S.M.A.R.T. on this drive is lying. Initially, S.M.A.R.T. said nothing was wrong, even when it was clicking. Then 3 parameters said "Degraded" for about 5 minutes; then later, once again, nothing was wrong. I used to think the 77F temperature reading was awesome; now I don't believe anything it says.

So RMA? Sounds like a waste of time and money. I thought the 5 year warranty meant this drive would be hassle free for a long time...I was wrong.
Avoid it at all costs.
September 12, 2016
I purchases this drive a little over a month ago for use in my PS4. The space was great. I installed over 10 games on it. And it was fast. Saved games faster and the loads speeds was a few seconds faster. I played many hours of uncharted, destiny and other games on it
However a little over a week ago it started to load extremely slow. Now it wont even load the OS. After conducting several trouble shooting test, I found that the drive gets extremey hot leading to failure. 1 MONTH. I am trying to research my option as this drive is less than 2 months old. From what i read seagate is just going to send a regurb drive. Smh. Avoid it at all cost. Think im gonna go with the HGST.
Arrived Open and Defective
June 9, 2016
This arrived in an open static bag, and the drive was extremely slow to respond. I tried it in 2 machines just to verify - and completely dog slow. Something majorly wrong. Threw another drive in the computer on the same SATA and power, worked fine.

Very shady selling an opened drive as new, especially a defective one.
Died in Three Months
January 17, 2016
I installed this 4TB drive in my iMac on 10/19/2015. Unfortunately, it failed just three months later, on 1/14/2016.

Also, Amazon's product description is incorrect. It lists the rotational speed of the 4TB drive as 7200 rpm, which is the speed for only the 1TB and 2TB drives. The 4TB drive's rotational speed is only 5900, as stated on the maufacturer's website: www.seagate.com/www-content/product-content/sshd-fam/desktop-sshd/en-us/docs/100726566c.pdf

Half the performance it advertises
December 3, 2015
When my first one arrived, I was getting about 100MB transfer rate. The product claims to get upwards to 465MB. Using the same port and file copy tests with my lacie external ssd did get the speeds of 300 to 400MB. I figured the drive was defective, so I exchanged it for another unit. The 2nd until has the exact same performance profile. I am not sure if its 2 defective drives in a row or just that the drive doesn't have the performance profile it advertises and I expect. I am going to return the 2nd drive and look for another unit.
