Rated 5 times more reliable than Samsung Evo, Sandisk Extreme Pro, and intel 530.

***Update*** The MX200 is now an older legacy product. They now have the MX300 line. Here are some comparisons:MX200:Seq. I would say that I am extremely experienced with these drives. The Crucial MX200 is always my go to SSD. I build business class computers so they need to be fast but don't need all the bells and whistles of gaming machines. As far as speed goes, most SATA SSD's are all too similar because the SATA cable is the bottleneck only allowing for approx. 500mb/s transfer speeds. For that reason I buy these more for reliability. They have one of the best endurance ratings of any SSD. Over 5 times longer lasting than Samsung EVO, Sandisk Extreme Pro, and Intel 530. (which seem to be comparable in price) The 1TB version can handle writing 175GB per day for 5 years straight. Obviously in most cases no one ever gets close to that! The Crucial MX200 also supports hardware encryption, includes adaptive thermal protection and power loss protection among other awesome features. In over 3 years I have used well over 100 of these drives and I have not had a single one go bad on me. I love these drives. They just work.
Extended the life of my MacBook Pro
November 2, 2015
Installed this in a 2009 MacBook Pro 13" that previously had the standard spinning drive. The speed difference is huge. It boots up in seconds and the battery lasts longer. It only took a couple minutes to install and getting Yosemite/El Capitan up and running was a breeze with a USB. Thankfully with this drive and a RAM upgrade, I should be able to get several more years out of the computer. Would highly recommend.

The spec on this have been gone over many time in these reviews. What I would like to do is just give you my experience using this product and cloning my current HDD to this one.My PC is an Dell XPS 8700 with 16 Gig of RAM, 1 TB HDD. It came with Win 7 Pro and I tried out the Win 10 Pro upgrade. After upgrading to Windows 10 I decided to get an SSD drive and settled on this one due to the balance of speed and endurance with expected life span of the drive. After research this is what I did.1. Downloaded and installed Macrium Reflect Free2. Defragged my HDD3. Made two backup images of my current HDD4. Checked the images5. Purchased the SilverStone 3.5 to 2.5 HDD / SDD Bay Converter (SDP08)6. Purchased the StarTech.com USB 3.0 to 2.5" SATA III Hard Drive Adapter Cable w/ UASP7. Of Course ordered the BX200 1 TB SSD drive8. Plugged in the StarTech Converter, let Windows 10 install it.9. Plugged in the BX20010. Looked in My Computer (didn’t see the BX200)11. Didn’t worry about #1012. Started Macrium Reflect13. Clicked on: Clone this disk…14. Clicked on: Select a disk to clone15. Selected the new BX200 drive. It wasn’t labeled that, but you can tell by the size.16. Clicked next, and let the cloning begin17. 30 min and 2 seconds later my clone was finished18. Macrium Reflect had already run the Trim command on the drive so that was cool19. I clicked on the windows Safely Remove Hardware and selected my newly cloned SSD20. I unhooked the SSD from the USB converter21. Shut down the PC, and unhooked everything.22. I took the PC to a tile floor area so I would reduce the chance of static electricity23. Pressed & held the power button for 5 seconds to discharge any electricity that may be left24. Opened the case, disconnected the power cable and data cable from the old HDD25. Installed the new SSD in the Bay Converter26. Re-connected the power cable and the data cable27. Re-connected all the cables and turned on the power28. My computer booted in 23 seconds!29. Life is good.30. Went to Amazon and ordered another one for my other computer!
Smokes my old hard drives
May 21, 2015
I just installed this SSD in my computer and already i'm impressed. i cloned my win7 ultimate drive to this new one as i didnt feel like reinstalling everything and setting configs and servers back up. i'm glad i did because now when i boot up, it takes about 20-30 seconds instead of several minutes. once i type my password and siging to windows everything loads almost instantly. my programs launch and load so much quicker. i havent tried any video editing yet since i literally just installed this but i will and i'm sure it will be a great improvement. i have upload an image from 2 different benchmark programs. speeds are very nice. System specs: Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe, 32gb DDR3 ram, Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz CPU, Geforce GTX 680.
... MacBook Pro as my late 2011 laptop was growing tediously slow. However
May 20, 2015
I was seriously considering purchasing a new MacBook Pro as my late 2011 laptop was growing tediously slow. However, I could not justify the purchase as the new Mac's cannot be upgraded(memory). So, rather than upgrade to a new computer I decided to upgrade what I could and save money. I maxed out the memory so there was nothing left to do other than switch out the HD for an SSD. I purchased an enclosure, slid the SSD in and copied my HD with Carbon Copy Cloner. After the cloning process finished, I shut my Mac down, opened the case, disconnected the battery and the HD, installed the SSD, closed the case and rebooted. WOW!!! What a difference! I can't remember this Mac performing like this in such a long time. Everything loads like lightning!
Great SSD Drive! MX200 250GB
March 8, 2015
Installed in desktop PC. As with any desktop install make sure you have SATA power and SATA data cables, as well as either a 2.5" bay in your case or you will need a 3.5 to 2.5in bay adapter. My system is a i5 3570k, 16GB RAM for reference.Acronis: I activated the included Acronis cloning software without a hitch, as directed in the instructions. They give you a key to activate on their site, Acronis requires you to register using your email, and you're sent a full product code after doing so. Acronis was easy to clone (copy) my existing 60GB SSD over to this larger 250GB. It took about 5 clicks to setup, and about 6 minutes to clone 55GB over to this new drive. (My OCZ Agility 3 is rated at 525r/500w, for reference.) Acronis software also has some neat features you can use after, such as being able to backup your whole drive as an image (smaller file) in case something ever happens you can restore. I set mine up to backup to one of my 1TB 7200RPM drives, and it uses a 35GB image to backup my 60GB of data on this drive currently.MX vs BX:Their 2 newest models for 2015. This MX series replaces their prior "high-end" MX100 SSD's, which were pretty highly regarded as quality drives. This one does cost a little more than the BX, so why should it matter? The MX adds some fancy features the BX does not have, mainly "Dynamic Write Acceleration" (DWA). This is an advanced caching feature that is supposed to help with sustained write speeds. Additionally, the MX has enterprise level hardware features like Thermal Throttling and Full AES Encryption. The MX series also has a slightly higher "write endurance", which is the amount of data that can be written to the drive over it's lifespan. That's what you're paying for in the MX vs BX, slightly higher speeds, quoted longevity, and enterprise level features.Eye Test:The drive performs like an SSD should, and coming from an SSD already I wasn't expecting much more speed. It seems a bit more responsive than my old SSD boot drive, and that's expected as my old drive was VERY full. Boot times are about 7-8 seconds loading Windows 7 from POST. No problems since cloning the data over. Windows Experience score on the drive is 7.9, my old drive being so full was only scoring 5.9. Crucial products have been reliable for me in the past, so it's a name I trust and one of the big 3 people turn to in the SSD space.Performance:UserBenchmark benched the drive, in MB/s:Sequential: Read 498 / Write 458 / Mixed 347Random 4k: 4K Read 30 / 4K Write 89.6 / 4K Mixed 37.6Deep Queue 4k: DQ Read 224 / DQ Write 237 / DQ Mixed 76.5TL;DR:Enthusiast upgrade over the BX series, comparable to the Evo 850Great speeds in both read and writeExceptional Endurance Rating (Life Expectancy)Acronis software makes cloning a breeze

This review is for the following item: StarTech USB 3.0 to 2.5" SATA III Hard Drive Adapter Cable w/ UASP - SATA to USB 3.0 Converter for SSD/HDDStartech makes some good equipment, and this USB 3.0 2.5 SATA III adapter fits my needs exactly. This was purchases on September 21, 2016.I bought this adapter with the intent to be able to access any 2.5" drive if I needed to do data transfers, and more. As I encounter many such drives in my profession, it has been invaluable on many an occasion. Cloning drives has never been easier, and grabbing old data is a breeze. My goal is to eventually get the USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 10Gbps adapter for 2.5" drives. Faster speeds means more efficient work, and my management always like better work.Anyway, this adapter is an excellent tool which never leaves my work bag. I highly recommend it.
Affordable, easy to use, works as advertised.

I had a toshiba laptop that was no longer turning on. All of the pictures I had taken of my son when he was a baby were on the laptop and not backed up, so I was definitely desperate for a way to retrieve the photos. After looking into a few professional services to recover my hard drive and deciding I didn't want to spend $200+, I discovered this option. This cord was very simple to use and worked like a charm! It basically turned the hard drive that I yanked out of my dead laptop into an external hard drive. I was able to get all of the images with sentimental value off, and decided to keep the hard drive itself as a backup just in case something like this happens again. In short, this product was so easy to use, worked as advertised, and is very affordable.
LIFE SAVING DEVICE .......thanks to youtube videos and AMAZON is the GREATEST in all the land!

Dumped a cup of coffee on my computer. I know what you're thinking; yes, I died a little inside! On my new Windows 10 all-in-one Dell touch screen (sale at Best Buy for just under $300)Plugged this into the old hard drive (very easy to find once I pried the HP Pavillion laptop open)Right click on the start button, click on disk management. For mine it's drive E....Right click on drive E and click on open.Of course, it said I'm not the administrator but it opened anywayGUESS WHAT? I Clicked on control, clicked on all my files that were on my desktop and TRANSFERRED THEM!I might stand in front of the computer store..................... that wanted to charge me $60 to check the hard drive's viability and$120 to copy everything over PLUS $15 to buy their flash drive.............and just tell everyone about this!!!!!
Highly recommend

Great cable, USB 3.0 plug (5 Gb/s), SATA III connector (6 Gb/s). So theoretically, it should transfer data to an external hard drive at speeds of up to 5 Gb/s. Look at the specs of other similar cables for sale on Amazon, as of the time I wrote this review, most of them run at USB 2.0 speeds only, and it says that in the fine print, not the title. USB 2.0 is only 480 Mb/s transfer speeds. Which means this cable I am reviewing here is more than ten times faster. So spend the extra $3 and get this better cable. One thing to note, this cable only supports laptop style hard drives (2.5 inches), not desktop style hard drives (3.5 inches). The reason is that the bigger hard drives require a cable that is powered by an AC adapter, and this cable does not have an AC adapter.
Everyone needs this cable!
February 24, 2015
I have owned several dozen or so external harddrive bays/enclosures and adapters. This cable is probably one of the best things I have in my geek toolkit. You can connect nearly any 500GB platter HDD laptop drive to or any SSD drive and access via USB.My other phone is a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact and it supports and includes an microUSB to OTG USB adapter. I have been able to connect my 128GB SSD to this cable and then it to the OTG adapter and access an SSD on my Z3 Compact. This cable works great on Macs or Window computers (Mac Mini and Win7/8 tested) and SATA/SATAII/SATAIII laptop hard drives and ssds. It's very easy to carry around in case you need to pull data from a laptop hard drive. Desktop platter hard drives will not work and any laptop hard drives over 500GB won't either since the design of those hard drives requires more power to spin the extra platters added. For being so cheap, I'd recommend this cable for anyone that owns or uses a computer. It will come in handy some day or every day.
I'm Not a Techie and Conquered My Data Transfer in Record Time!!!!
August 26, 2014
Let's start by saying that I'm not a computer person when it comes to the mechanical aspects and what's inside. My old laptop got a virus which wiped out my OS. I couldn't even get the CD to run to overlay the OS and have hope of saving all my pictures, work files and house related data! My nephew (who IS good at this stuff), sent me the link to here and told me to buy this. I did. It came in a few days later and I waited about 2 weeks to attempt, what I thought would be, a nightmare! I decided to tackle it yesterday and after spending about 15 minutes taking the screws out of the old laptop and figuring out what was the hard drive, (and for those of you non techie ppl, it's very obvious when you get in there!!), I merely plugged one end into the old hard drive and plugged the other end into my new laptop and there it was!! I transferred all my files in less time than it took me to get the screws off the back of the old machine! Most of the other reviews went over my head, but if you just need to transfer your data from one hard drive to another, this product is golden!! Now I have all my files on my new laptop, but also have my old hard drive that I can use monthly to back up my new machine, using this cable!! I'm so smart! lol

Phenomenal product - Seller's packaging has room for improvement
April 10, 2017
I ordered this for my Late 2011 Macbook Pro 15". The original hard drive that came with the machine was running incredibly slow when multiple programs were open, booting up, and saving. I ordered the Crucial MX200 SSD, an enclosure, and a set of screwdrivers to open the Macbook. Using Carbon Copy Cloner I replicated all of my files onto the new drive, opened the Macbook by removing the bottom plate, and installed the new drive. Now it runs like it's brand new, even faster than ever! Very satisfied. The only negative thing I have to say is the packaging that this drive came in seemed worn. Most likely had been a box that had previously been opened and re-taped back together. At the end of the day, everything works just fine, but that was concerning when I first received the item.
The supplied Acronis software did not work, but the SSD is fine, extends battery life, and speeds up your computer.
April 24, 2016
I used this drive to upgrade a Dell 7000 2 in 1. The drive is fine, but that is not why it got 4 stars, I had to give it 4 stars because I also bought a Samsung drive for another computer I upgraded at the same time. The Crucial drive came with Acronis cloning software, and I could not get it to work. I made two long phone calls to support, and in the end they told me that I needed level 3 support, and I could not get level 3 until Monday, two days laters. The Samsung SSD came with their own cloning software, but actually it came with two software programs, both worked perfectly, and I cloned two Samsung SSD's with the software, and it could not have been much easier. Crucial should not be surprised about a 4 star rating on this drive because of the poor performance of the software they chose to supply with it. They could have gotten 5 stars if their support could have gotten the software to work for me. As it was, I wasted a couple of hours of my time and got nowhere. The Crucial drive was going into a new laptop, so I managed to build an install disk from the software on the laptop, then use it to do a fresh install on the SSD. Many people say that doing a fresh install on a SSD install is the best way to insure that the drive is configured properly, as SSD's require some system modifications for the way the OS handles the SSD. I won't know how true that is until some time passes, I have one of each, the Samsung SSD was cloned, so over time, I may be able to see if one system works better than the other. To be fair, it would have been better if both systems had the same type of drive in them, as it is, if one system has problems, it may be blamed on the SSD instead of the installation process. In any case, the Crucial drive works well, and I have no problem keeping it in this system. Crucial should get Acronis to do a better job with the software. I found that Acronis does not warn you to initialize the SSD before running their software, they chose to have the cloning process fail, then call support to be asked if I initialized the drive before I tried to clone to it. I don't think it was unreasonable for me to expect that the software would have either initialized it for me, or warn me to do it, and exit, or start the initialization process or me. To let the process fail, and make the user wonder why, is not very good programming by the Acronis company. Samsung is at the top of their game, and that does not surprise me.

March 18, 2016
It's not an Evo, but it does the trick. I mainly bought it because (A) It doesn't suck) and (B) It fit my color scheme). It's fast enough and has adequate storage space for everything I'm running at the moment. I currently have Win10 OS, Steam w/ several Bethesda games, iTunes w/ about 600 songs, Blender, and a DAW (digital audio workstation), along with several other smaller programs and approx. 1000 random files and game tools/mods installed on it, and haven't even taken up 50% of it yet, so it should be sufficient for the average user...BACK IT UP though, because I don't know how reliable or what it's longevity is yet, I only finished building my computer a couple months ago, but yeah so far so good...
Crucial MX200 250GB SATA solid state drive
October 12, 2015
ordered and recieved two of the drives. First install went really well, with performance of the scale as far as i was concerned, boot time went to about 17 seconds, including me putting in my password. Used a Norton clone program on the first one, to a 6 core, 16 gigabyte, 3.15 Ghz machine. The second install didnt go as well, the only difference was that i used a different cloning program. computer was a quad core processor with i Gigabytes and 2.85 Ghz. Didnt go as well, computer hung several times, and was a lot slower. I havent gotten to re clone the hard drive but will soon.overall, i was impressed with them. pretty sure problem was the cloning software.
Awesome upgrade but be careful with the cloning software
September 30, 2015
The drive was all it was advertised to be. Booting and launching of programs installed on the SSD are so much faster than before. You will never go back, so be forewarned! The only reason I don't give 5 stars is because the Acronis cloning software was a little buggy. My main system drive was a 3 TB drive with a relatively small (150 GB) C: drive, a much larger D: drive, and three hidden partitions, so I wanted to clone the three hidden partitions plus the C: drive onto my 250 GB SSD. The software seemed to accommodate what I wanted by allowing me to exclude files (in my case, the entire D: drive). Unfortunately, it still wanted to create a partition on the SSD for the D: drive even though I wasn't copying anything. I did allow me to shrink the D: partition and extend the C: partition, but what I chose (a very small D: partition, a small unallocated space between the C: and D: partitions, and a C: partition that took up most of the space not assigned to the three hidden partitions) apparently caused a problem for the software. It started the clone, but then gave a script error that wasn't all that helpful After a second attempt yielded the same result, I decided to leave the partition for D: larger and it was successful. I don't know exactly what happened, but I suspect some bad math in the program. After I was finished with the clone, I deleted the partition for D: and extended the C: partition to take up all of the space not allocated to the three hidden partitions. The result was a bootable SSD and I haven't looked back. Really awesome upgrade once I worked through the cloning.

My Primary SSD was filling up quickly with software updates and OS updates. Bottom line I needed a larger SSD as the primary drive, I also wanted my computer to be able to upgrade into Windows 10 down the line. The Specs for the SSD are on par with other value SSD's ....Since I also have another SSD specifically for my games, it seemed like a trust worthy choice to hold my OS and other precious programs.Using the Acronis cloning software was god send! In fact when you purchase this SSD they send you to the web site and provide a KEY to download the complete software. The process to clone my main drive into this new larger SSD took about 5 min. No issues using it at all. All my programs work just fine and no issues or crashes involving the OS. Crucial is making great gains in earning my trust for future purchases on SSD's; this was also my very first time cloning a drive....I usually rebuild all from scratch on my OS and programs but obtaining all those Keys for my OS and programs seems like a pain and it was avoided by using Acronis. Thanks! Purchase with confidence. Great value.

Great if not DOA
June 27, 2017
I ordered three of these, two work perfectly using an SSD and connected to my Raspberry Pi media server, one was DOA and had to be returned for refund. The working ones seem reasonably fast and stable, no errors shown in the logs for many gigabytes of data transfer.
Great cable for connecting HDD's and SSD's to your PC USB port
May 4, 2017
Used this device for years to connect both IDE and SATA drives to PC for data transfer. Works for both 2.5" and 3.5" drives. I still use it when out onsite, but I now use an external, USB-connected drive enclosure that sits on my desk when in the office. It is a little more convenient and did not cost much.
Good product

Very useful for moving data off of broken laptop by removing hdd and plugging in to a computer usb port. Used on linux to copy 100's of Gb of stuff from a raid array to use as a data resource with a laptop at a remote job site. It is about the same speed as esata. Could be used to clone hdd to a ssd in some cases. Works with windows 10 diskpart and disk management. Drive not recognized as oem device, e.g. WD software does not detect WD drive in Windows, also WD drive shown as asmt 2115 in gparted in linux. Esata would report actual disk hardware, not usb device name.
StarTech USB 3.0 to 2.5" SATA III Hard Drive...Sold By STARTECH.com

StarTech USB 3.0 to 2.5" SATA III Hard Drive... Sold by STARTECH.COMThis Sata drive adaptor is packaged in a plastic bag and shipped in a bubble wrap bag.It is brand new and in good visual condition. Made of mostly molded rubber and plastic.I have not had good luck with these kinds of adapters and when I tried to use this on my drive, it did not work.Do consider the other reviews as this may be a problem on my side but there is really nothing that I can door change, it is simply plug and play. I cannot tell you why it did not, or why it should have worked.I did not receive anything for my review of this device.170128 0015-- UPDATE May 31, 2017 --I had placed this adapter in the bag and forgot about it until I was working on a computer and had a drive problem come up. All my enclosures were in use so I took the adapter out and plugged it in. It worked perfectly. My earlier review did not respond positively and I can't tell you why there might have been a problem, perhaps one of the drives I tried to run.But this spun up the hdd and accessed the information with no problems at all.I have changed the rating to a 4. This is most convenient for those fast fixes.AGAIN, I did not receive anything for this unbiased review.170531 2303
What I like about Windows 10 is it does not say anything ...
March 8, 2016
It did work. The problem is not what you expect. It reports to the computer you have a SCSI drive, not for example a Seagate or WD drive. Why is this important? I tried to use Acronis True image software supplied free from Western Digital which requires a WD drive as the source or destination. It did not see the WD drive as my destination, but rather a SCSI drive. So, the software would not work. I was able to use Shadowcopy to copy files over to the new drive. I partitioned my new drive with a C: and D: drive. Shadowcopy was able to copy over the D: (Recovery drive on my HP laptop) to the new D: on the WD drive I bought from Amazon. I took out the old Toshiba drive which crashed on the boot sector, and replaced it with the new WD drive. I booted up the computer, HP's software saw there was no operating system on the C: drive, and let me install it off the D: drive.Make sure you have a bootable backup of your drive on a USB or flash memory device. Otherwise it is a pain. I did not have a bootable backup so I had tell the laptop to format the Toshiba C: . I used F10 or F11 or F2 upon booting up the HP laptop to get to format. I forgot which one. I lost only about 5 letters I wrote. The rest was backed up. After I formated the Toshiba C: drive I then reinstalled Windows 8.1 from the D: (Recovery drive). When it asks you if you want to delete the Recovery drive say NO every time. Just because you make a copy of the Recovery drive or use it, doe not mean you can not use it again and again. Windows 8.1 says you can only make one copy of the Recovery drive. Not true. What I like about Windows 10 is it does not say anything about limiting how many bootable backup copies you can make on USB memory sticks. After I got all my software working correctly on my new WD drive, I created a bootable drive on a 128 GB USB stick. I then used Shadowcopy to copy all my software, excluding Windows to a directory I called backup on the USB stick. Now I have a bootable USB with Windows 10, and all my software and files on it. The Toshiba drive has Windows 8.1 on the C: drive, and I am keeping it as a backup to my USB stick backup. However, after losing the boot sector, I would not use it as my primary drive again.
Works Well But Has Issues
October 18, 2015
Works extremely well with SATA III and USB 3.0 ports, although not well at all with SATA II and/or USB 2.0 ports. I've come across this before with various USB 3.0 devices not working well with USB 2.0 ports, but it's the first time I've seen that issue with SATA II drives. Aren't both interfaces SUPPOSED to be backward compatible?!At any rate, I purchased this cable along with a Western Digital 750 GB 'Black' SATA III 7200 RPM laptop drive to use for backups and transferring files from one computer to another via USB 3.0 ports, and with that particular drive and when using USB 3.0 ports, it works flawlessly. Any other configuration (hard drives and/or USB ports), not so much.Recommended, as long as you stick to SATA III and USB 3.0

Drive is good, software is mediorcre.
June 22, 2016
Acronis software didn't work well. Both copies had to be "fixed" after moving to the new drive. As a contrast I used Casper and it worked perfectly numerous times.
I'm not sure if my SSD is new or refurb unit.
April 14, 2016
My SSD came without antistatic bag. I went to youtube.com and watch some unboxing of the exact same model SSD and their SSD are in this antistatic bag. Oh well.... I installed the drive and it's working as it should so far so good.
If you have a Hybrid SSD/HDD this isn't worth the money or effort
February 19, 2016
Nice, but I'll pass.I have a 1TB Hybrid drive. The Crucial drive in my very limited testing was no faster. It comes with Acronis 2015 to copy your OS and data. I admit I messed up and didn't create the recovery CD which might have saved me about 8 hours of time. Once I got the drive restored to the factory settings and did an Acronis restore with my Master Boot Record and the OS it did finally boot Windows 10. It would not shut down or do a reboot. I have no doubt that it's my fault. I have a 1TB drive with a dual boot Windows 10 and 8.1 system with a shared D (data) drive. I'm sure there are extra instructions that I couldn't find for this to just migrate my Windows 10 to this new and much smaller drive.Long and short - I have a Hybrid drive and the boot up and loading of my normal applications seemed identical. My advice is to go for the storage and get a hybrid. I have never had an issue when I go larger with a drive.I plan on finding this drive a home where it might work well. I'll try my work laptop since work won't give me something that's any good. If it fails there again this will become a backup drive. I'm disappointed and glad it was only $80. in 1989 this would have been thousands of dollars :)My final advice: Go for a hybrid drive. It's just as fast 95% of the time.
Good while it lasted.
January 9, 2016
Good while it lasted. Instaled in my daughter's laptop in May 2015 and it failed Dec 2015, thankfully between semesters. Crucial customer service is good, but each time I spoke to them they gave me the next step to try to recover it (different computer; power cycle; garbage collection), but none worked. They say they will replace it.

December 17, 2015
The SSD I ordered wasn't wrapped in an anti-static bag but the same ssd ordered by my friend on nearly the same order date did come inside an anti-static bag. Maybe I was just unlucky? Or I guess it is also possible Crucial no longer provides anti-static bag to cut cost??Also, I noticed that there are signs of usage on the slot (the gold part) of the ssd. I can see some scratches on the "gold part" under bright light. It may be because Crucial do a plug-in test for their ssds? But I also own a Samsung ssd and Sandisk ssd, neither of them came with any scratches.I just ordered a replacement. Not saying the one I got is definitely a used one, but I am indeed a little bit concerned about that since it is not the first time Amazon claims used product to be brand new. (I ordered a "Brand New" Garmin GPS 52LM (Sold by Amazon) last year, it came with a 16gb TF card plugged in, what a bonus...)
QC assembly problem
October 17, 2015
This functions as expected. However, it came out of the box with the enclosed SSD card / contacts misaligned - indicative of poor quality control at the assembly line.I was able to plug in a SATA-to-USB cable and it does what it is designed to do. It formatted as expected, and I cloned my SSD so it can be used to boot my computer.

Solid State Drives - Mostly
August 14, 2017
The useage is mostly SSD not all HD. Hard drives with SATA interfaces have not worked with this device, probably because this PC USB interfaces won't provide enough current for the drives. AC/DC adapters with higher current ratings (>3a) work fine when combined with SATA interfaces.

I have a Western Digital My Book hooked up to my Linksys router using a mini usb connection on the back of the drive which also has a esata hookup available. I wanted to increase speed so I purchased this cable to replace the mini usb. I tried everything using this cable and could not get the router to recognize the drive. Sending it back.
Ok cord... Shame on Amazon returns
February 2, 2017
Amazon has still not processed my return for this item and it has been 13 days since they received the package at their Kentucky facility. The cord seemed to work ok with my old HDD but when I used with the Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD I was unable to connect to my MacBook Pro 15" Mid 2010. However, the hard drive that I purchased was most likely not compatible with my laptop as I've read from other sites and posts. The cord seemed to be of good quality but Amazon has really upset me with the return at this point. I am still waiting for the refund for the $180 SSD as well!
Good but not great.
September 7, 2016
Very handy, cheap, does everything it says it does... I have had performance problems with certain toshiba SSDs that get higher throughput installed on sata3 internally. I would not use it as a replacement for ssd enclosure however it is great for connecting to many different drives and checking general health and recoving data from them.I just snapped the sata plug on mine on a snugger drive and am ordering a 2nd one...because it is cheap and handy.
Not 100% compatible with all drives
July 22, 2016
This cable is not compatible with all makes and models of SSD drives. I bought it to migrate files from a dying Micron SSD to a new Samsung 850 PRO drive. When I plugged it in and started the Samsung Migration software, it showed a transfer rate of about 8MB/sec and an estimated 24 hours to copy one drive to the other.I wound up plugging the new drive into an unused SATA port instead and completed the transfer in 53 minutes. I swapped the new drive into the computer and plugged the Micron drive into the Startech cable and was able to get about 150MB/.sec throughput. I also tried it on a new-ish Mac and got similar throughput with the Micron drive.Bottom line: Maybe it will work, and maybe it won't.
Different Adapter Cables Then Pictured
July 14, 2015
Item pictured is not the same item I received. Based on the picture I was expecting these to be single cable USB 3.0 to SATA converters. Instead I received dual cable USB2.0/USB3.0 converter cables. I can still use them and they seem to work OK using the USB 3.0 cable however I'm disappointed in the discrepancy. We are using these to send to end users in my company for data transfer of old hard drives to new drives and the 2 cables will confuse many of them. Plus I could have purchased the style cables I received for a cheaper price.

Bought two. First one was a success. Second one appeared to clone ok, but system wouldn't stay up more than 15 minutes. Reverted back to original hard drive and all was well. Formatted and attempted to clone on a different computer. Would only clone the 100 MB system reserve. Acronis and it's associated support took two days to get back - what a pain ! Returned it and bought a Samsung 850 EVO which cloned and installed perfectly. Samsung provides a CD and doesn't require a login, username/password, and a serial number "key" to get started. I will buy Samsung again - everyone told me to get Samsung in the first place.Above all, I would never recommend Acronis for anything.

March 6, 2016
For some unknown reason this caused my Apple MacBook Pro to crash often when installed in several different external USB 3.0 enclosures. I found after considerable frustration that it worked better if I formatted it as MS DOS(FAT) instead of OSX Extended (Journaled). I can't explain why this OSX format didn't work well and why this MS DOS work around helped. I have used the OSX formatting on a Samsung drive in the exact same external USB 3.0 configuration without any problem.

Not Thrilled!
October 16, 2015
I have used and installed many many hard drives and this was my upgrade from a SanDisk 480gb Ultra II SSD. The SanDisk was spectacular and never posed any issue. The first one of these Crucial MX200 SSD I ordered quit working on the second day; so, I ordered a replacement. Amazon was awesome in getting me the replacement; but, needless to say, the disk lags a lot while handling intensive applications usage. It seem to be fine for basic usage, but not for the power user, running multiple Virtual Machines consecutively. I have never had lag in my VM's before while using an SSD. I ended up doing a fresh OS install; but, the lag continues with heavy usage. I love Crucial Memory; but, I think I will stick with Samsung EVO's or SanDisk SSD's from now on.

Slower than similar USB 3.0 adapter
May 24, 2017
Got this to replace another StarTech USB 3.0 to SATA adapter since I now have a laptop with USB-C/Thunderbolt. Quick test of moving files from laptop to a Samsung 950 PRO 1TB SSD shows ~250MB/sec with old USB3 adapter and ~110MB/sec with the new USB-C adapter. Not what I expected. Don't know if this is something inherent to the cable or USB-C in general. Not the laptop as I'm doing both tests through a Thunderbolt 3 dock with 2x 1920x1200 LCDs connected. Only advantage I see is that the cable is a little thinner. Speed just isn't there so back it goes.
Didn't work for my application.
March 14, 2017
Nice compact cable, but didn't work for my application. I have a Mediasonic Probox that hold 4 drives. The Probox supports both ESata or USB 2. I wanted a cable to connect to the Probox's ESATA port to a dedicated HTPC that has USB3 ports. This cable did not work for that application. Win 7 detected the cable, but wouldn't show any drives in the Probox. I checked the Probox and it shows the drives when hooked up using either USB2 or ESata. I even removed all but one drive and tried it that way with the StarTech cable. No joy.
Scary 'Power Surge' warning when in use, leaves drive and other USB ports (temporarily) unusable
January 3, 2017
Works a charm, and compact!Update: I took this traveling with me for the first time, used it on the same laptop I always do and the cable crapped out, giving windows a 'Power Surge warning' when I plugged it in. It was then unusable for the duration of the trip. It also played havoc with my other USB ports while it was plugged in. It looks like it did no permanent damage, as the drive and USB ports work when I am not using the cable. Still, the cable is going in the garbage and I don't trust the other two I purchased now. I will find alternatives.
Insufficient to support traditional hard drvies
June 26, 2016
I purchased two of these to allow previous drives from my old computer to be easily used with the new system. I didn't want to hassle with finding free and moving around SATA cables inside the computer. When one drive is plugged in, I can hear the USB plugged in sound, and for a split second, I can see a drive icon. However, Windows 10, at least, won't recognize a drive plugged in with this cable. Maybe, there's not enough power going to the harddrive to power it.
USB32SAT3CB vs USB312SAT3CB and Windows 10
September 2, 2015
So I bought this to handle a drive migration, and it worked exceptional, so long as it is used on Windows 8.1 or OLDER. Windows 10 support is not available for this device at this time, even according their own technical support.Startech, instead, has released a second product to support Windows 10, part number USB312SAT3CB (startech's part). The product on this page is USB32SAT3CB (note the missing 1). If you're upgrading to Windows 10 like nearly every windows user out there... get the part USB312SAT3CB.Startech's chat support has said they'll follow up with me seeking support for Windows 10 and this device, however I don't see that happening since they've released a replacement product.

November 26, 2016
The drive arrived in faulty condition. Put in my 2012 Mac Mini as OS drive and kept failing (lots of hanging beachballs requiring restart, drive became "uninitialized" (unrecognized, requiring a reformat, and reinstall of OSX) in Disk Utilities. Had problems almost immediately, and have been troubleshooting all kinds of things, cables, hdd placement, reseating, etc. After months of troubleshooting, I used a program DriveDx, and immediately it identified my drive as corrupt. "Read errors could not be recovered", whatever that means. Super frustrating. I actually have a Crucial SSD in my Macbook Pro, and its great. But, I am going to replace this guy with a Samsung 850 evo and call it a day. This faulty MX200 has caused stress and long delays in my audio production.

November 15, 2016
Bought this off amazon to upgrade my aging Thinkpad x230. The upgrade was a complete failure. After initially booting up and working nicely, Windows started to block on what seemed to be disk write operations. It would not crash, most programs would still run, but the program writing to disk would just be paused. Did full reinstall from scratch, and after a short while same thing happened. Did FW upgrade, same s*** happens still. Not touching Crucial products with a stick ever again.
Crucial Drive dies - BIOS/diskpart do not detect it (and power cycle does not fix it)
July 10, 2016
If I could give it 0 star, I would. SSD died after 10 months and 28 days of moderate usage - Diskpart and BIOS do not detect the drive. I contacted Crucial support, and they told me to perform power cycle, which I've done according to their instructions and no change in drive status...

i installed the Drive and it was great but 5 days later stoped working, and the computer could read the disk, i format the disk and try to install the OS again but the drive jus fails. oh and when i got the drive the frame that comes with it had dog hair sticked i was just disappointed really bad drive.
Failed experience
January 5, 2016
Although there were many great reviews, mine experience was very different. I purchased 2 of these, 1 for my Dell laptop, the other for my home PC. Was able to easily physically install however, was never able to get these drives to function as boot drives. I used Acronis as provided along with 2 other products to clone the drives. Even made both bootable disc and USB for cloning. Spent about 10 hours messing with this. Ordered the Samsung 850 EVO 250GB drives and using same software had immediate success. Amazon was amazing as usual with the returns. This just represents my experience.
It worked great for a month then spontaneously died
December 20, 2015
What a piece of junk! It worked great for a month then spontaneously died. I contacted support and they sent me an article outlining how to "power cycle" the SSD by booting to the BIOS screen, waiting 20 minutes, powering the drive off and disconnecting the cables, plugging it back in, repeating the previous steps one more time and then crossing your fingers and hoping the drive will magically start being recognized by the BIOS. I got an RMA and they sent me a another drive and it died within a week! Now I'll have to pay to ship the second failed drive back to them as well. Awful drives; just stay away!!

Kind of worked, once.
September 23, 2017
I bought this for an easy hard drive data swap before installing a new hard drive. At first the HDD started to spin up and registered as a USB device with no available volumes, unable to format. I disconnected and reconnected the cable and no longer get any functions from the cable. All the hard drives work when plugged back into my SATA ports, but I no longer even see the red light on the cable that was present on the first connection. I'm assuming at this point that the cable failed.
Doesn't worth the trouble
July 20, 2017
For me, it was a worthless product. I was going to use an SSD drive as a boot disk for a machine that has M2 SSD, so I wouldn't need to have an ugly SATA cable in my gaming rig. I was thinking that I can carry that SSD as an external drive with this cable. But noooo.... First of all, my Mac that I was going to prepare the boot disk on didn't recognize the SSD connected with this cable. I asked a friend if I could use his windows PC to create a boot disk, and I did. Then I connected the bootdisk to my machine but it didn't recognize the SSD either. When I did it with a SATA cable, there was no problem. So, yes, I blame this cable. When I wanted to return it, Amazon asks for a return fee, which translates to waste of money.
StarTech Support OK, Cable did not work....blamed new drive as culprit
January 5, 2017
At this point, the cable would not power up a new Samsung SSD. I spoke with the customer service of StarTech, after researching and trying ways to access the drive through drive management and such, and they were not able to assist. Then I tried the laptop hard drive I was actually using and it still would not power it up or recognize it. I emailed my results to support and StarTech stated it was the hard drive's fault because my Samsung needed to much power to start up then a 3.0 can give.I would give StarTech service three/four stars for their assistance, 1 star for pushing the concern to the drive and not the cable and the product 1 star for not working- presumably...on two 2.5 drives (one SSD and one Seagate HHD). Will continue to troubleshoot, by buying a different cable, and updating my review to reflect my findings.Product being returned.

July 25, 2016
Simply doesn't work. I had a normal 1tb HDD that I was trying to clone on to an SSD equivalent and the system, Windows 10, would not recognize the connection. I went into disk management utility in the computer management of the system and still, no device. I then connected my new drive to an older Acronis SATA to USB 2.0 adapter that had an independent power cord you plug in to the wall receptacle in addition to the USB cord and no problems...it just doesn't deliver...
CABLE EXTREMELY HOT AND UNABLE TO TRANSFER DATA
March 6, 2016
I purchased this cable to transfer my HD data to a SAMSUNG SSD EVO 850. Upon connecting it to my usb port, the SATA end of the cable became extremely hot. Hot to the point where I could not hold it anymore. While the cable getting hot was bothersome, what really irked me was when I connected the SSD and was unable to erase and reformat (FYI using MacBook Pro 15-inch, Mid 2012 OS X Yosemite) . Until I purchase a new SATA cable or enclosure to transfer my data, I can only assume that the cable is bad and thus the reason it has received 1 star.**UPDATE**I went and purchased a new SATA to usb cable from a local store and it worked perfectly. I do not recommend buying this cable.
Don't waste your money
November 9, 2015
Item Is not as described. I order an adapter that has one USB 3.0 cable combining data and power with a SATA hard drive adapter at the other end. what I got was a cable that has the USB connectors, one for power and one for data, with a SATA hard drive adapter on the other end. Very disappointed at this blatant misrepresentation. the picture nor the description are accurate.
