Five Star Reviews: | 83% You can never go wrong with the right tools. ... September 4, 2017 You can never go wrong with the right tools. Dewalt is all that I buy and I never get let down. Great Medium Duty Grinder November 28, 2015 This is a great medium to light duty angle grinder made by Dewalt. So far, it has held up to all that I have asked of it. We carry it around in our 'pump truck' to clean up the odd well casing from time to time. I've also used it briefly with a wire wheel to knock off excessive rust from metallic items just prior to painting.I also own a heavier duty Dewalt angle grinder and use it primarily for the heavier shop work. This is a good little grinder with enough hp. to tempt one into using it a bit too aggressively. Power is good November 17, 2014 I will readily admit I am not an expert on grinders. But I can not conceive of much more you could want from this type of tool. The simplicity is a strength in my opinion, as with the insane loads of torque this thing generates, lesser constructed tools would disintegrate. It has loads of power, is exceptionally sturdy, and holds up even when you loan it to a friend who uses it to cut apart something that would be better handled by explosives. As good as a 9inch for pretty much anything, only lighter March 7, 2012 In addition to this 13amp dewalt, I have these angle grinders:DEWALT D28402K 4-1/2-Inch Small-Angle Grinder KitMilwaukee 6088-30 7-Inch/9-Inch Large Angle Grinder with Lock-OnAll three are 5 star grinders, built to last and easily serviceable, metal gear casing, roller bearing construction, with screw off brush caps, and screw on side-handle.The 4-1/2 10amp dewalt is really nice to do tiny cuts in steel. Cutting rebar and galvanized pipe with it is a breeze. It's easy to take out because its very compact, you don't have to worry about it getting enough power on a 100' of cord, and it's easy to get into tight spaces and control. Also attachments for it are the cheapest. The 15amp milwaukee has the best shield guard. It is permanently affixed to the grinder with torx screws, but you can rotate it by depressing a clip, which is really nice. I use this one for grinding down concrete for sidewalk and foundation repairs. I've also used it to cut through 6" thick cast iron pipe to remove an old commercial boiler system. It is the largest and heaviest, and could cut a car in half. You can go deeper with 9" obviously, and I think the milwaukee must be geared down a bit to handle the extra circumference. This 13amp dewalt is a really nice mix between those two extremes. It is the more well rounded of the two tools and could probably do either tools job. If I kept only one this would be it. It's small enough that you could finagle it under a kitchen sink, but that is probably the smallest conceivable space you could grind in. And at the same time it can still grind concrete, cut through thick metal, and spin the heck out of a wire cup brush or sanding pad. The only thing is the shield guard is a bit chintzy, and is basically a compression fitting that you screw tight with a single screw, and to move it you have to break out your screwdriver. I keep a big screwdriver in the bag for that purpose. The bag it comes with is decent, thick reinforced nylon. The wheels it comes with are great, I just absolutely melted through steel bars like they were butter, molten sparks were flying, the bar was glowing red, and 2 seconds later I was done, so it was like sex. It feels like it has more torque than my milwaukee. My milwaukee is quite a bit older though, made in the US and I don't know it's history so it might not be a fair comparison. There are tons of attachments for angle grinders.. wood stock removal sanders, metal buffers, metal cutters, metal grinders, metal sanders, concrete grinders, undercut blades, and even chainsaw blades (called lancelot). I think cutting metal and grinding concrete is what they are built for. Be careful to match the RPM of the attachment to the tool, because some attachments aren't built for over 6,000 RPS, and its best to play it safe I think. Also using a saw blade on an angle grinder can produce dangerous kickback, especially on a powerful angle grinder like this one, even though they make attachments for it, I wouldn't recommend it.Dewalts are made in mexico, their corporate headquarters are in Baltimore Maryland. | 72% Awesome little grinder June 30, 2015 Awesome little grinder! Because it's relatively inexpensive, I decided to buy it instead of renting a bigger 7" grinder locally. So far, it's done a great job at leveling and smoothing part of my basement's concrete floor using a diamond cup. I also used a wire wheel on it to strip away rotten wood on a planter box project. The switch is positioned ergonomically, at least for right-handed use. If you're going to use it for smoothing concrete, getting a dust shroud accessory for a shop vac is a must. I was able to find one by Damo for a low price here on Amazon and it has worked great. Durable grinder at a great price December 15, 2013 These grinders get the small stuff done around the shop day in and day out! I keep coming back to them as they're affordable and long lasting, with great ergonomics. The ribs around the motor body make them easy to grab and control one handed or with the handle removed for those tough to reach spots. I've got 5 of these around my shop now, and wont hesitate to buy another when I need more or when they eventually start to die off. Definitely recommend these. makita November 14, 2013 great diy tooldid some heavy duty work with itit's makita what would you expect?great quality low price If you must... August 21, 2013 If you really must grind something, this is a good tool to do it with. I got it specifically to grind concrete with, and it was more than equal to the challenge. I put it through hours and hours of hard use and it took it in stride. I have other Makita tools, too, that are so old people laugh and call them antiques, but they are still going strong. I expect the same from this grinder. Great Grinder July 28, 2013 I looked at plenty of reviews and compared the specs of countless grinders and went with this one. It only comes with a basic grinding disc, so if you are in to fancy cases and discs you might want another package. This is certainly powerful enough to cut through any metal provided you have some cutting wheel discs.I'm not a large person and I found this Makita to be super easy to control while using it. The power switch locks in place (it doesn't have a deadman switch like other grinders) and I feel that makes it easier to use because I don't have to grip the thing in such a way as to keep the power on. First grinder and it worked great June 9, 2013 This is the first time I've purchased an angle grinder. I needed to have something to help cut 2" top cap bricks for a landscape wall we were building. I considered a wet saw and alternatives, but an angle grinder seemed like the best combination of cost and capabilities. I intended to use the grinder only to grind down the rough cut I made with a chisel, but it worked so well combined with the diamond concrete blade (purchased separately) that I wound up scoring the brick all the way around with it. Then, after a few taps of the chisel, the piece would fall of with a nice clean cut which needed very little final grinding. The grinder itself was easy to hold and manipulate, was plenty powerful and felt like it was of excellent build quality. Since this is just a 4.5 inch grinder, I can see where it might be limited in some other usage scenarios, but that's what larger grinders are for. Consider this if you want a great quality 4.5 inch grinder! |
Four Star Reviews: | 7% Not bad, but made in China. July 12, 2017 Hey, it's a run of the mill 7" grinder. Not much to say. But is heavy and kind of noisy. Made in China. Great value, but doesn't meet my needs. August 13, 2015 This appears to be a great tool for the purpose it is designed for, unfortunately it does not work with Type 1 blades, only type 27. The instructions that come with the tool specifically states that it should not be used with Type 1 blades and there is no attachment available for Type 1 blades. This wasn't clear to me in the on-line product description. I bought the tool to cut stone using a continuous rim diamond saw blade, but alas... I'm now returning it. Looks like I'll have to buy the large angle grinder. Too bad, it doesn't come with a bag. From what I saw the tool looks great. The bag material is substantial and would serve its purpose well. Great grinder May 4, 2015 .....great looking machine, quality, as is the case with the other Dewalt items I own. easy assembly and the storage bag is handy addition. This is really a "heavy duty" medium grinder I'd say from its size and heft. Should do the trick on some stubborn steel fence posts. Highly recommend for the money. This seems like the best value July 21, 2014 I've been using a 4" cutting wheel for flagstone. The 7" Grinder and blade is so much more powerful, the cuts are clean and go through the entire stone. I looked at many different brands, this seems like the best value. Good grinder for the price October 18, 2012 I'm posting this after only owning this tool for 1 day but it does appear to be a great value. Obviously I cannot comment on the longevity/reliability but again, for the price it seems great.I specifically got this 7" grinder rather than larger, more powerful, grinders as I'm not using this in an industrial/professional setting. I'm only stripping/grinding up to 3X3 square tubing that I welded up for furniture and the size is good for that.I held some larger grinders at the big box stores and they felt massive. This unit is a good compromise between the 12-15 pound "full size" 7" angle grinders and a small 4 1/2" grinder.PROS:PowerfulSmaller than most 7" grindersCame with a bag and 4 discs which seem to be high qualityCan be locked on using the button near the trigger which is easy to pushCONS:Can't adjust the guard without a tool (flat-head screwdriver or wrench)It wasn't freeOverall I'm very happy with it. | 14% Excellent machine for the dollar October 19, 2014 Definitely not for trimming nails, but what a great workhorse. Have used it for both cutting and grinding. Having never used something like this before I was happy it was user friendly... as long as I didn't get over-confident and try to hurry. LOL Christmas Present April 24, 2014 I bought this on Amazon for my husband. He seems pleased with it. It comes with an extra cutting wheel. It's pretty small but has pretty decent power. Good tool January 20, 2014 I have lots of experience with power tools, but this is my first angle grinder. Good power, smooth, and quieter than I expected. Once I got started it was comfortable enough to use with one hand, depending on the angle of work. I like the switch. The only thing I would change is the guard; it will not rotate quite to where I want it, and the adjustment screw is in the way. Switch September 2, 2013 I use it for tiling jobs it has perfect size and grip the only con is the stiff switch on turning it on . Maybe dust gets in there or it is not built for tiling. Good first impressions June 3, 2013 Too early to tell if I really like this but the first small project shows this to be easy in the hands and plenty powerful enough for the smaller jobs that these are made for. I suspect that it will be a winner and it's a good price for the Makita name. If it proves durable then it would easily rate 5 stars...... Makita makes quality power tools October 14, 2012 Whenever I need a power tool, I look at what Makita has to offer before looking any further.I purchased this Makita 4 1/2 inch grinder to replace an identical one I used every day for 4 years - until the switch broke.I use the grinder with a course sanding disc to rough out woodwork. Lot's of dust - maybe a reason the switch went out.The extra cost of a Makita power tool is well worth the time you save not having to deal with break downsor a poorly engineered/designed product. |
Three Star Reviews: | 4% Nice feel good balance August 13, 2017 Ok it is a dewalt grinder. Nice feel good balance, even bright yellow.Like how the trigger feels.Just one concern it is not varible speed..im a wood guy I use it for making faux beams. the bag is a good size and seems durable enough October 19, 2016 The grinder seems to work really well, the bag is a good size and seems durable enough. The wheels it includes won't ever get much use since I use grinders for concrete and masonry work, so I'd rather save $30 and not have them included. It would work better is there was a D-handle mounted directly over the wheel location so you can put even pressure on the wheel. The side handle is fine for making cuts but it doesn't help with a cup wheel application. | 4% so it is only good for a short time use July 20, 2017 It heats up very fast, so it is only good for a short time use, other than that it works fine and since it is made in China (shame Makita), I wonder how long is going to last, but the price is good, so I bought four. Description says it is variable speed, but it is ... May 31, 2017 Description says it is variable speed, but it is not. Ordered for a refinishing project that required variable speeds. Keeping the grinder as it seems well built and powerful, but isn't what I was looking for. slowed down and sounded like the brushes were shot May 27, 2015 I had one of these (same model) that crashed after five years hard use. This one lasted about twenty minutes, slowed down and sounded like the brushes were shot. Returned and Amazon refunded purchase price. Ordered DeWalt grinder, it works great so far. Marginal January 16, 2014 Fine for light work, but pressing it taxes it greatly, will over heat, not up to the normal Makita quality! |

One Star Reviews: | 5% Missing parts May 11, 2016 I just got it today at 3:09 pm and is missing a part which is the side handle5/11/2016 Over heats super easy and leeks grease too January 23, 2016 Only got to use a couple times. Over heats super easy and leeks grease too cuts great, doesn't want to shut off June 26, 2014 I just bought this grinder along with a compatible 7" masonry blade. It worked great for the first ten minutes. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th time I picked it up in the first half hour of owning it, the trigger got stuck. Used air to blow it out, tried again, and the trigger was still sticking. Its a bit to large of a tool to be looking for the cord to unplug it when the trigger doesn't shut off. And yes I work in the trades, I am well aware of what a trigger lock is. That was not the problem. Caught on fire first use May 31, 2014 The first time I used it, grinding steel, I smelled something funny, looked down and flames were coming from the brushes. I blew it out with compressed air, and it never ran again. My last dewalt tool. | 10% This thin is junk October 6, 2017 Don't waste your money on this. Used four cut off wheels and it died. Makita used to be good tools, this one was junk. 57 bucks down the drain. Wouldn't give it any stars if i could. Burned up. August 16, 2017 Got it out of the box and went to work. The motor burned up in five minutes. Not normal Makita quality. Defective out of the box August 6, 2016 This grinder didn't work properly right out of the box, It sounds like the motor is not working properly. I did't try it as soon as it came and now they say that it is too late to return the item. It didn't even run long enough to wear the disk that came with it. It should be rated in minus stars. I always thought amazon was better than this. When up in smoke! October 7, 2015 Used it for about 30 seconds before it went up in smoke. Have used Makita before and had no problem. Not sure about this one. The thing is I finished the job with a Makita GA4530 that I have had for four years and it worked fine. I will not buy another M May 5, 2015 This grinder is junk. First time I used it the grinder went up in smoke. Makita will not replace it because they say it was abused. The thing is I finished the job with a Makita GA4530 that I have had for four years and it worked fine. I will not buy another Makita product again. One Star October 8, 2014 Grinder lasted a total of 5 minutes before it was smoked. Made in China junk. |

Awesome suction
I owned both vacuums. The Makita is lighter, easier to use, the battery does not keep popping out like in the Dyson (I hated having to keep hitting the battery and restart the vacuum) and the suction is comparable. I will have to buy the carpet nozzle to figure out the pet hair issue (the floor nozzle does not do a good job with pet hair). Dyson picks up the pet hair very well.Iva01545
