Finally, batteries you can get out of the d@mn package when you need them!
September 14, 2017
I don't yet know how these compare with the usual "big brands" but I'm giving this 5 stars because, finally, somebody has put batteries in a case that you can open without needing a machete! Easy opening, good storage box. THANK YOU.

Great value. I searched high and low for a good price on quality batteries. RAYOVAC last as long or longer than Duracell and Energizer. For the most part RAYOVAC is now the only brand of batteries I buy. Great quality, great price, highly recommend.

As of this writing, I've been using these for over a year and have yet to experience any problems or issues related to dead batteries or battery life.I use a battery tester, and randomly measured a few, new, out of the box, and they all rated at 100%. Happy with these batteries.
Work perfect for our purposes!

Batteries are a hard object to write a review on. However, this 12 pack worked great in all our holiday decor & flawless candles lit beautifully. We do flameless candles as it's just that much more safe with grandchildren & seniors making their way through our home. Plus I have an emergency kit for flash lights & radios as we get terrible nor' easters!
Very good batteries!

In my experience, the 9 V Rayovac Alkaline batteries really do last as long as Energizer Alkaline 9 V batteries. I tested this premise by first using the 9 V Energizer batteries (more expensive than Rayovac) in a organite blood zapper that I wear 24/7. So, I wanted the best 9 V battery that lasted the longest, for the money. The Energizer battery lasted 10 to 11 days. Then I tested how long the Rayovac battery lasted. The Rayovac battery lasts 10 to 11 days.Generally, I find that the Rayovac battery is cheaper for the same performance.I have bought the Rayovac 9 V alkaline batteries several times, with the same result. Very Good batteries.
Exactly what I needed for an 8 D battery glutton Lantern I bought on sale from Amazon.
April 23, 2014
Man I'm walking on thin ice with Ma Nature on this purchase too. I'm looking at AA to D Spacers to offset this crazy purchase. Love the lantern and these batteries are great. But if it only lasts 66 hours on low and 34 on high...OH I feel the landfill crying already. Not to mention Ma Natures wrath..and the only way to get her off my case and ease my guilt it to switch off to the recharge able batteries which I already have aa's and so the spacers should help. Meantime I should have bought two sets of these so I'd have three full sets of D's for the glutton. OH WELL...why not buy recharge D's....a set of 8 would set one back about 80 dollars plus a recharger is also another 20-40. Enough said.

Great, bright light!
November 21, 2016
I love the amount and quality of the light these give out! I bought them for hurricane season but in FL a storm can knock out the power any time of the year so I keep one in each bedroom. I can't say anything about longevity as I haven't had to use them in an emergency yet but every time I test them they still come on just as bright as before. I wouldn't worry about the little blinking locator light using up power. It also isn't so bright that it shows up in the bedroom among all the ambient light in the room (the alarm clock and light on various other electronics) as long as I keep it facing away from the bed, but I'm sure it would show it in pitch black, which is when I would need it.
Great Lantern
September 8, 2016
For the $money ($18.00) you cannot beat this lantern.. I use it camping and love it.. I used to use a Coleman propane lantern while camping but not any more as I use this battery lantern now.. It's safer (does not get hot and can be used inside the tent) gives off light that is almost as good as the Coleman propane lantern but is smaller, safer and easier to use. It's also cheaper to run batteries vs. Propane.. I find I get about 30 hours battery life on high vs. 7 hours on theColeman Propane lantern.
Good light, good deployment features, good battery life
June 1, 2015
There are many features that I like about this lantern. It runs on 3 D cells, and it has two power levels; so it will illuminate longer than one of the others that uses 3 AAs (especially the one that has lots of LEDs that must all be on all the time at full power). The strobing function is intuitive to get into and out of. The light is well dispersed by the design of the top, and the top can be turned and detached. Then the lantern can be hung upside down by the short hook on the bottom that flips out (find or pre-prepare something the hook will attach to), and you get a nice even light from the frosted dome over the LEDs. It is well built: it does not feel flimsy, although as one reviewer noted the base hook's durability is questionable. It is visually unobtrusive. I had one some time ago that I gave away to my kids, and liked it so much that I bought 4 more for our own use during power failures.Regarding battery installation, one reviewer noted that the base which you take off actually has two parts that rotate independently. Look at the round inner part and you will see an arrow next to a "slot." Line that arrow up with the arrow on the lantern, and the slot with the small post that sticks out. Push it on, then screw on the square base. Although it only takes 1/4 turn to screw off the square base, you may have to turn it a bit more if it rotated while you were handling it.
Great little light!
May 6, 2015
This is such an awesome little light!!! I was intrigued by the fact that you can twist off the top and use the bulb as a brighter light, and hang it from the integrated hook on the bottom. I noticed in another review that someone didn't believe other reviews that you can read by it. Here is my experience: I hung it from the top of my 9 X 14 ft tent. The first night, I went inside my tent well after dark, after being outside in the night for a while. It was certainly bright to read by! However, the next night was windy, chilly, and rainy, so I went inside the tent shortly after sundown, and yes, the light didn't seem to be as bright. I figure that depending on what your eyes have adjusted to, you may or may not feel that this is a bright light. The third night, I was out in the dark for a long time, and again, the light seemed plenty bright enough to me.This is a pretty compact light, feels pretty sturdy, can dim down a little (second push of the button), and does have a tiny green light that flashes so you can find it in the dark. I really like this, and am considering a second one.
Fantastic for the price!
May 16, 2013
I've been camping for years, and nothing beats a Coleman Northstar for sheer blinding power! Lately, I've been trying to get my kit down to a smaller size, and with all the great LED technology out, I decided to give this highly rated lantern a shot for an upcoming camping trip. When I received it, I was wondering if something so small would be up for the task at hand. I was going to use this to light my cooking area and probably hang it from the top of the tent at night. Loaded some batteries into it, this took a bit of time like others have mention to line the tabs up to seal the battery compartment, however after you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature. Our first night on Francis Beach in Half Moon Bay was a windy dark one. And this lantern performed marvelously. I had it on high setting suspended from a tree branch to light my cooking area and it did a great job, without any propane hissing sound, or dangerously hot surfaces. After cooking we set it on low and enjoyed out dinner. The hook on the bottom does the job in the tent, and the shape of the collapsible handle makes for easier packing in our gear tote.Aside from the line up the tabs to close the battery compartment, it seems pretty sturdy, especially the rubberized power button which has a green LED that flickers periodically when off to allow you to find in the dark presumably. The most amazing fact, is running it the entire 1 week camping trip for 4-5 hours an evening on one set of fresh batteries is fantastic. I'm going to order another one as a spare, and for the price you can't beat it!
Absolutely brilliant!
May 4, 2012
Okay, this thing is brilliant. I bought this because it was an Amazon Gold Box deal and needed a good camping lantern. It looked decent for the price and I bought it a bit impulsively. Once it showed up and I had a chance to look it over, I was very impressed.Pros:- This thing is very durable. It is sturdy and heavy, meaning it won't blow over in the wind and won't break if you drop it.- The LEDs are very bright. Two settings for high and low. 9Minor perk: if you turn it on to high and leave it on, you don't have to cycle to the "low" setting before turning it off.)- It has a fold-down carrying handle, which makes it easy to carry, but makes it less awkward and bulky when not carrying it.- It has a fold-down tent hook on the bottom, so you can use it as a "ceiling" light inside your tent.- The lantern top is removable, so you can use it more as a lamp or lightbulb (using above-mentioned tent hook).Cons:- It claims to have a green blinking LED to help you locate it in the dark. However, this light is almost impossible to see other than straight-on.- Others have pointed out the flimsy quality of the tent hook. I don't see a huge problem with it, but agree that it could be more sturdy like the rest of the lantern.All-in-all, this is pretty great lantern for the price (especially the $18 Gold Box price). The two cons I listed are pretty minimal and insignificant. Highly recommended.

Good batteries for a good price
June 29, 2017
Good batteries for a good price. I bought it to add to amount for one day shipping. May buy again as the ones I had been buying (duracells from Sam's Club) cost more.
Just as good as Energizer or Duracell, but less expensive
January 3, 2017
Rayovac is just as good as Energizer or Duracell, but less expensive. All three brands are somewhat better than store brands, especially for heavy, frequent use. These 12-packs and the 36/48 packs that you can get AA or AAA batteries are just about half as expensive as what you buy at the store, and every bit just as good. I also tried AC Delco alkalines, but those did not last quite as long as the Rayovacs.
Rayovac UltraPro Alkaline D Batteries, 12-Pack with Recloseable Lid (ALD-12)
October 11, 2016
Can't give them 5 stars yet, because I don't know how the batteries will hold up under use. All batteries were dated NOV 2025. I'm happy with that!
batteries get better in times in term of quality and prices
December 7, 2015
These are quite effective in using with led light generated devices. I have been using these for Coidak LED Motion Sensor Spotlight 600 Lumens 4 LED Wireless Weatherproof Ultra Bright Outdoor Light. So far, they have been working very well. However, batteries get better in times in term of quality and prices. So shop around before buy a new ones.
See, si, sea, C
August 20, 2014
Maybe it's me, but it seems like C batteries in general aren't made like they used to be. I bought these to replace the dead C batteries in our infant swing. It takes 4 batteries. Disappointingly, they only lasted a couple days before the swing would slow down and stop in the middle of use. These batteries, however, seem to be doing marvelously in my Roomba invisible walls and my automatic pet feeder. I haven't needed to replace THOSE batteries in a year. Perhaps it isn't the batteries' fault that my swing seems to be eating them.
Excellent for slow trickle devices
January 15, 2014
I use these Rayovac UltraPro line batteries in all my smoke detectors. First, modern smoke detectors tell you when they sense the battery is getting a little too low and second, they don't drain the battery too quickly. These batteries last a fairly long time in our smoke detectors (well over a year, although it is recommended that you change batteries yearly and replace detectors every 5-10yrs) and I have never had a problem with leakage, which some cheaper batteries tend to do, which ruins the device you are powering if the acid seeps into the core electronics.Overall, these batteries fit the bill for powering, what is arguably a critical safety device in anyone's home. They hold their charge, they do not leak, they don't cost an arm and a leg, and while not top of the line, they are good enough for what we use them for.

Great lantern
February 27, 2016
this is a great lantern. it is life saver when the lights go out.. and I mean that.. the only thing that bothers me is the blinking light.. read on couple of reviews that the light makes the battery go out quicker.. so they removed the light.. it did not bother me because i leave the batteries out of the lantern because i only put it in when i need it to use it.. and it works great.. the light is really powerful and bright..
But nearly impossible to change batteries in the dark ...
October 27, 2014
Bought this as an emergency light source and am very pleased with the lantern. Seems well made, certainly casts a whole lot of light from three D batteries.I'm only giving this four stars because of the battery installation process, as many others have already described.Even when the lights are on and you can see what you're doing, seeing which directions the three D batteries go (two down, one up) is a real hassle, and even worse, re-attaching the cover is very very difficult even with adequate light. Now, imagine you're using the lantern, in a dark environment, and dang it's time to change the batteries. You can just about forget about re-attaching the base, without having light to see what you're doing. The batteries, maybe, if one carefully touches and replaces new batteries in the same direction the spent batteries were.Plan on having a separate light source available to use, in order to replace the batteries in the lantern, if you're in a dark environment.Other than that, four solid stars
Rayovac Sportsman LED Lantern (SE3DLN)
December 27, 2013
REVISED REVIEW: It is now December 29,2013 and the "yellow tinge" color that I reported earlier seems to have gone away. The light is now "clear". I am not sure why this happened but am guessing that the LED bulb's gas characteristic has changed? The illumination is extremely bright as previous same-model lanterns which I bought. The workmanship of the lantern is excellent and consistent. So, with this updated review, I have increased my satisfaction rating to 4-stars (and reserve the highest rating until my particular unit stabilizes and remains "clear").As mentioned, I would not hesitate to purchase the Rayovac Sportsman LED (SE3DLN) again.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I rated this particular Rayovac Sportsman LED Lantern (SE3DLN) between a 2-3 STAR level of satisfaction because of a slightly "yellow tint" in the light. The intensity of the light is very bright though, but the "yellow tint or tinge" is a bit annoying, especially since the same model lanterns that I purchased several years ago are super clear. The variation in the color could be the result of the natural imperfection of the LED Bulb used in this particular unit as sometimes that can happen. But for lighting up the immediate area, the lantern serves its purpose so I can live with this slight imperfection.Several years ago, I purchased this same model lantern, and the illumination is and continues to be extremely bright (with fresh batteries), clear and the illumination lasts a very long time on a set of batteries. Using it in a "constant on" on LOW-power extends the length of use on a set of batteries. If you just turn it on and off as needed, the light lasts a long time inbetween battery changes.I've highly recommended this lantern but with this newest unit, I suspect that the quality control might have been missed. The bottom line though, would I buy another one again: YES!
Great emergency light or camping light
December 25, 2013
I didn't look at the dimensions so was I surprised to find the unit is compact (7.3x4x4) for the amount of light it provides. It's lightweight enough for small children and the elderly to carry. We have a couple of rechargeable LED lights but the problem is when the power goes out you find out too late the rechargeable batteries are dead. At least with this unit if the batteries are dead we can simply replace them with fresh ones. Quality of construction is very good. The light output at 240 lumens is enough to illuminate a 2-4 person tent or a picnic table for play cards. Inside it gives the light output of a 20 watt bulb which won't help much in a standard size room but at least you can see to move around without hurting yourself in the dark. The difference in output between high and low is barely noticeable so if the power is likely to be for a couple of days use the low output & get double the battery life. It won't give off the light of a Coleman gas mantle lantern but its sure safer. I found adding/changing the batteries to be very straight forward. The advertising mentions 3 modes - High, Low & Strobe. The strobe mode is a useless tiny dim green LED right above the power button. It's suppose to help you find the lantern in the dark before you turn it on. Unfortunately, unless you're looking directly at it you can't hardly see it, hence the 4 star rating. The only advantage I can think it would provide is more of a battery indicator. If its blinking (every 5 seconds) chances are the batteries are OK - if it's not blinking then check and replace the batteries if needed.
LIghtweight, compact, versatile, needs only 3 D batteries
April 23, 2012
This lantern is 1/3 the size of a standard camp lantern which makes it easy to store where a standard one would not fit. It only needs 3 D batteries so fewer extra batteries need to be carried for a trip. I like that it has an integral hook on the base so it can be removed from the top section and provide a "bare bulb" light to shine down on an area.I chose this lantern over others that required 4 or 8 D batteries as I need only 3 extra batteries to double the hours from this lantern and have 140 hours of use even on its high setting. That is enough for more than 3 weeks of nighttime use. Fewer batteries take less storage space, saves money, and adds less to the landfills where I travel. Some people have mentioned the single LED that flashes on every 5 seconds and worry about it draining the 3 D cell batteries. This would take a couple years to happen as it is a dim colored LED with the less drain than the ones found in key fobs powered by a wafer battery. D cells provide double the power of a C battery and 10x that of a AA and 30x that of a AAA and about 100x that of a hearing aid type of battery so worrying about the power drain from the tiny LED is completely misplaced. On the other hand having the dim green LED light to help in locating the lantern in the dark is a nice feature "just in case". When I have a power outage at my house, which is several times a year, it comes without warning and I am usually having to find a flashlight and lanterns in the dark. This LED feature would be great to have even on my flashlights with their AA batteries.
Bright li'l sucker for what it is
September 10, 2010
First things first, I really don't understand why so many people are making a huge deal about the battery lid. Seriously, folks, you have to take the darn thing OFF in the first place to insert the batteries; maybe pay attention? On top of that the important bits are called out in red and, IMHO, couldn't be anymore straight forwards. Line up the red bits using common sense, close lid, twist, done. Was that so hard?As for the latern itself, it's small! Really didn't pay attention to the dimmensions, so when the box arrived I actually thought it couldn't be right. More the fool me, but no matter. Popped in three D-cell batteries, turned off the lights and was immediately impressed. Dug out our old (4 year old or so?) barely used Coleman dual-tube fluorescent latern, turned it on and was even more disappointed with it than before. This Rayovac LED lantern wipes the floor with said Coleman; which IMHO is good enough to read a book by and that's it.Took this li'l guy camping with us and, while it's no where close to the brightness of a propane lantern, I was always pretty darn happy with it. In fact I had gone through the trouble of getting a new globe, mantels and propane for our main lantern... and never used it once. Truth be told, am considering buying a few more of these and just leaving the ol' propane unit at home from now on. YMMV. For the cost, $25 as of right now, I think it's a great little lantern.

decent product
January 22, 2015
decent product, but not all batteries (even in the same package) are fully charged. If you have a sensitive device, make sure you have a voltage meter to check the charge before depending on them for delicate tasks (i.e. cordless microphone). Only use them if they are 90% or higher when brand new... Oh, by the way, that is NOT a knock to the brand! That is just a fact with batteries of ALL TYPES. (Check them prior to first usage.)

... to be high quality and it puts out a good amount of light
December 12, 2016
Seems to be high quality and it puts out a good amount of light. However, getting the bottom back on after replacing the batteries is a nightmare. It's very hard to do it in full light, so I can only imagine the difficulty of having to replace the batteries in the dark.
Lantern and combination mind teaser / dexterity puzzle in one package.
August 20, 2015
This lantern operates well once the batteries are in and the batteries last for a while, which is great. It is relatively sturdy and simple to use operationally. I would rate it 5 stars....if I could get the batteries changed within 5 minutes. Changing the batteries is tedious because there is only one way the base can twist on, and, the inner part of the bottom part spins as you attempt to re-attach it, so you can't simply gently spin it until it catches since you can't control the inner spinning piece. If you buy it, you'll see what I mean. I am no dummy, but this is an average of 8 minutes to change batteries (varying from 2-15) every time.
Good light, a couple minor grievances
August 4, 2013
I bought mine 2 years ago. It has worked well on many a camping trip and through a few power outages. After about a year I found that the light will go out if shaken even slightly. It seems the vibration is momentarily disconnecting the power. Push the button and it comes on again. If I ever work up the interest and willpower I will take it apart and see if there is a loose fitting somewhere. My only other complaint is that the plastic cover around the LED has a Fresnel-type lensing effect which seems to concentrate the light directly at eye level when you have it at a table you are sitting at. It's not very pleasant and I have sometimes put a paper towel in front of the light to diffuse it a bit.The color of this light is really white. I personally prefer the warmer light of something like a Coleman lamp, but obviously the LEDs have a lot of advantages and each has its place. The green LED blinker on the front that supposedly helps you find this lantern in the dark really does blink. It is rather dim and flashes infrequently; if the lantern really were lost in the dark, you'd have to stand there for a number of seconds waiting to be sure you weren't missing it. If it was facing the wrong way, or with even the lightest of obstructions, you're not going to see it.Overall a decent light that continues to work decently. Probably wouldn't buy it again though.
No instructions included - light bluer than I had hoped.
July 7, 2013
I love the size and 240 lumen brightness is decent. The product has has bright, dim and strobe modes, but since my lantern did not come with instructions, I did not know how to access the strobe mode (I was told in a response to this review (see below) that you hold down on/off button for 3-5 seconds). Before I was informed about this, I sent a message into RayOVac support. It's been 4 days and so far, the only response has been an automated confirmation that they received my message.Maybe others have received instructions when they purchased the lantern? Mine shipped from Amazon loosely wrapped in a plastic bag, not in the usual plastic clamshell you might expect. The only literature accompanying the lantern was the green strip of paper wrapped around the light, and it included no instructions. Initially, I thought the strobe mode was broken since I didn't know how to access it, as I mentioned. Also, I'm very persnickety about the color temperature of the light. I've avoided LED lanterns until recent years, waiting for manufacturers to perfect the warmth of the color of the light. While this lantern's light is not the brash, piercing blue typical of early LED products, I wish it was a little warmer - I have a few mini lanterns with warm Cree bulbs that offer a warmer light than this.Still, this lantern will come in handy when I am cooking at camp in the evenings and need an extra burst of brightness.
bought one a year ago.. ok but not great
February 18, 2013
lantern is well made and works well, battery life is very good.a few things about it that drop my rating.....MUCH smaller than expected... while not a bad thing the pics make it appear much largerNO WAY this is over 90lm of output. leds are reflected and diffused and i would put it more along 60lm useable light at best comparing with my other led lightshanging hook on bottom is pretty much useless. cheap plastic that will break.i was hoping to use this in my home during power outages. at night this lantern gives just enough light to not trip over furniture but that is about it. In a very small room or tent it might be fine, or sitting close by for reading. this lantern gives VERY little area lighting.in the 20.00 price range it's not a bad deal, just know what to expect when it arrives. this falls much more in the mini lantern category.
Poor as a Lantern, ok as a Tent Light
January 10, 2013
I have had this product for well over a year.I assume all the positive reviews are rating the product on its quality, LED technology (thus low power consumption) and safety (no fire like the gas powered ones). And for these attributes I too rate it 5 stars. However, the product is being sold as a Sportsman Lantern, hinting at camp & similar use. So, THAT is what I bought this product for, and I assume THAT is why you're reading this review! In this regard, the product really falls short and the light is too blue & too weak. You can take the cover off but then the light hurts the eyes and is still not good enough. In my personal opinion, the technology is still not ready for a lantern and it is best to stick with gas powered or CFL (Compact Fluorescent) option for now. My view was echoed by all adults in two camping trips. That being said, this is a safe, handy, pretty compact/portable and well built light. Just plan to get three of these to equal the light output of one gas powered lantern, or two to equal the light of a battery powered CFL lantern. We have two units that we used on two camping trips. Each unit has done a combined 30+ hours runtime and their batteries are still showing full strength, i.e., the lantern appears to be very power efficient. As advised by other reviews, however, I take out the batteries at home to avoid drain. We now use these solely as Tent lights (without the cover/diffuser). For Lantern purpose, we switched to a CFL model.

Not Fresh Batteries
June 20, 2017
Five year freshness guarantee? I purchased my batteries June 2017 and the "Best by Date" on the batteries is Nov 2020. Is't that 3 years and 5 months freshness? So the batteries were sitting around, before I bought them, for 1 year and 7 months? That's about 68% fresh.

Like some others, I bought these to replace my smoke detector batteries. They don't last. The last two lasted less than 2 mos. I'm buying durcell from now on - these are not long lasting.

4 out of 8 9V's Have Slight Dents
July 1, 2012
I bought the 8 pack. The 8 pack came sealed inside a little reclosable plastic container and was not damaged. I tested all 8 with a voltmeter and they all measure at 9.97 volts which is good. The expiration date is Dec 2016. However, for some reason, this is the first 9V set I have purchased where half have slight dents in them. Previously, I purchased a 3 pack 9V standard Rayovac set from Wal-Mart and they were all pristine. All 9V batteries have 6 tiny cells inside them. Search Wikipedia 9V battery for more information and pic's. I don't know if these dents will damage these little cells and cause them to leak. I am going to be using them inside my Takamine G Series EG340SC Dreadnought Acoustic Electric Guitar, Natural and any leaking would be a disaster. I don't know if I should bother contacting Amazon and return them. Perhaps all of the Rayovac UltraPro 9V sets have dented batteries. Most of the batteries only have a slight dent. However, one is fairly pronounced. This is the last time I will be purchasing the Rayovac UltraPro 9V's. I will either buy, retail box, the standard Rayovac 9V's at Wal-Mart or go with the Energizer Max 9V's at Home Depot.Specs:Expiration date is Dec 2016Rayovac UltraPro 9V Alkaline battery capacity: 500 mAhEnergizer MAX 9V Alkaline battery capacity: 595 mAhI have included pic's for this product.

Just OK
February 19, 2016
Works OK but I'm not especially impressed with the light output of this lantern. Plus it has the same stupid battery compartment design of many other similar lanterns (they must all be made in the same factory in China) that makes closing the compartment similar to solving a Rubik's cube puzzle.
Good when it worked.
July 28, 2014
Maybe I got a defective unit, but used mine for the first time this past weekend and had nothing but problems. The slightest bump of the unit would cause it to shutoff and was difficult to get it working again and often required removing the battery cover and putting it back on. I am past the return window on Amazon so I have contacted Rayovac to see what they will do. When the unit was working, I was happy with the light output.
Good item, but 2 of them died on me shortly after purchase
June 21, 2014
I have gotten 2 of these. They are great when they work, but both of them stopped working shortly after purchase. I tried new batteries, etc. It is very bright when it works and has a nice clip underneath to hand in a tent.
VERY bright, only while looking directly at it.

LED lights do not transfer light well onto objects. I install LED lighting in commercial buildings, have LED lighting in my office, and all of my flashlights are LED. I bought this because I wanted a good portable lantern that would not need bulb replacement. I also wanted LED to save on battery power. The good:Very portable, uses almost no battery power - have had the same batteries in in for the two years I have owned it. Very sturdy, and built well. The bad:This will not light up a medium sized room. Does not have enough illumination to light up a small room. It does add light to a dark room, but it does not light it up. It is similar to 5-6 candles, but not what I wanted in terms of light addition.
Not dependable
March 7, 2014
Bought this lantern for camping a year ago, and it's in the trash already. First trip it worked after fiddling with the on/off switch some and checking to make certain the batteries were in correctly (they were). Then on our second camping trip a month later it just wouldn't turn on. When I got home took it apart and cleaned all connections, it was new and no signs of corrosion but did it anyway. It worked, mostly for the next 4 months, but it isn't my goto lantern because I don't trust it. Then a month ago was out in the desert and once again it wouldn't turn on. Changed batteries and still no luck. If you camp a lot don't bother with this lantern, it's a light-weight. I had an old cheap no-name LED lantern that was half the price that I'm using now and it's doing fine.
Disappointing
June 1, 2012
I thought this would be a good camping lantern to provide some light for cooking after dark and other chores around the campsite. The usable light does not extend more than a couple of feet from the lantern, but the glare extends for several yards. There is something about the lense that creates a lot of glare whenever the lantern is in your field of view and with the low light output, that is pretty much the only way you can use it. Aside from that, it feels solidly built and the large batteries should last a very long time with only LEDs to power.

Died in storage after two years
October 3, 2017
I've been a Duracell hater for a long time (leaking/corrosive), and now I'm going to have to be a Rayovac hater too it seems.Had these in a drawer for two years, and 80% of them swelled up and died. No temperature extremes, unused in the box.Shelf lives on alkaline batteries should be MUCH better than two years. Like 6-8, and then only with degradation of endurance, not a total bulging failure like these things.
Not worth it
July 13, 2017
These batteries didnt even last more than a few days in my daughters projector. Which usually more expensive name brand batteries last atleast a month. So I won't be buying these again to try and save money.
Bad deal...do not last
December 17, 2014
These batteries arrived with expiration dates in 2018, so I thought that I would have better luck than other reviewers. The package was sealed, so no evidence of tampering. And when you use these every 6-12 months for fire alarms, $$ can add up fast, and the price is so right on these compared to buying from Lowe's or Wal-mart. These bad boys did not even make it 6 months...VERY disappointed. Will be sticking with buying local and paying more...but I guess this time, it's a case of you get what you pay for.Given how many people have this problem, I can only assume there is something bad with the storage conditions or certain lots.
All leaked -- new in box!
November 6, 2014
Bought in Sept 2013. Needed to use in July 2016 storm. Expiration date Nov 2023.They ALL leaked, NEW in the unopened package! Stored in cool, dark, dry air conditioned room. So disgusted!I would cost $7 to send them back under warranty with 6-8 week wait. Total loss.We buy big packs to have for storms and keep them in good storage environment. And we don't store them in our lanterns just in case this happens!I will try AmazonBasics next.
Do not buy these Rayovac batteries. They are not supported by their manufacturer.
August 9, 2014
My unopened batteries were stored in a cool dry place in their unopened original container.Three before the expiry date they spoiled, the container filled with white powder and all batteries were ruined in their unopened plastic box.Rayovac said they'd send a replacement months ago. They never did.
Leaking Batteries
October 6, 2013
Batteries were dented and some appeared to be cut and possibly leaking. I sealed them back up and returned them immediately... still trying to decide if I should order another package. Most of the reviews do seem good, but there is quite a few ones that advise of the leaking batteries. That is concerning! Also, I don't believe these were damaged during the shipping since the plastic container did not appear to be damaged.

Disappointed!
September 24, 2017
I received this product today. I had a very high expectation from the reviews I read before buying this product. Unfortunately when I turned on the lantern, 1. the green light was not working, 2. the strobe light was not working 3. the battery cap is not easy to cap. 4. It was smaller that I expected. The size was cute though and enough light for a small area like your bathroom. If it was working properly, I may have kept it. Very disappointed.
Sorry product.
March 31, 2017
Sorry product. Batteries don't last. Light seems to work intermittently. Carry it and its fine, put it down and it goes out, pick it up and hit it a little and it comes on again. Not something I want to have in an emergency.
(No Name) 300 Lumen (Knock Off) Lantern Received.
November 16, 2015
I received a no name 300 lumen camping lantern. It is green and looks similar to the Rayovac lantern shown in the advertisement. I just do not want this knock off lantern. I want the Rayovac lantern even though the lumens are only 240. The company that sent the knock off is Eyson Lifesaving Equipment.

Made in China crap. Don't expect quality
April 27, 2015
My lantern quit working a few months after little use. I never banged it or dropped it and I changed the batteries too. Something defective. Switch maybe. Bulb ? Made in China crap. Don't expect quality.
dismal light output… maybe mine's defective
December 13, 2014
very disappointed with this lantern. reviews say it's a bright light. the one i purchased puts out light similar to my Pebble watch. I wonder if mine's defective. i wish it actually emitted bright light
