These help balance me and allows me to walk without looking like an old person
March 2, 2016
I suffer from arthritis in my knees and right hip. These help balance me and allows me to walk without looking like an old person. These trekking sticks allow me to look like a person on the go and not someone who is in pain. I met an elderly man in the market and asked him what he thought about his. He told me that he has a miserable time with his balance and without his trekk sticks he can't walk straight. Without them he keeps turning left. Makes you laugh but he repeated what I said he didn't want to look like an old man. He has been using his since 2012.
Good Deal for the money!

I am trying to get back in hiking shape, and took on a short but very steep hike here in the N. Cascades. A trail used by a lot of mountaineers to train for big climbs like McKinley, Everest, etc., The trail kicked my butt, going down a steep trail for miles is tough on my yet to be in good hiking shape body. My friend whose hiked everywhere; Patagonia, Alps, Arctic Circle, Canada, etc., told me he uses trekking poles religiously. That was a recommendation good enough for me so I took a shot and bought these poles. I chose them based on other reviews and price, let's just say I'm frugal.I also bought a great DVD called "POLES for Hiking, Trekking, and Walking" since I know nothing about trekking poles. If your a trekking pole newbie like me I would recommend buying the DVD or checking it out of the library first. The DVD will help in choosing the right poles for you. It also will show you basic trekking pole techniques and how to avoid the "GRIP OF DEATH".Lucky for me the poles fit my hands perfectly. The wrist straps are soft on the inside and easy to adjust and feel great. The markings on upper section of the poles make it easy to set the poles to the correct length for the task at hand (going up or down a trail). Once you've done it a few times pole adjustments are easy. Once tightened the poles stay put, I was really surprised at that, no slipping at all.The poles come with baskets that aren't installed. You have to remove the end cap at the bottom of the poles which pops off easily and then the baskets are screwed in and up to a plastic stop molded to the poles. Once installed they are very secure. The baskets keep the poles from sinking in snow, mud, sand, or getting stuck in the little cracks when traversing loose rocky terrain.Inside each pole at the upper end below the hand grip is a spring which is great at absorbing shock from pole plants. They keep arms, shoulders, and back from fatigue due to pole plant shock.I've returned to my nemesis, the "TRAIL OF DEATH" (kidding), a number of times now and my trekking poles and they've performed beautifully. I believe I am getting an upper body workout as well as a lot of help with the shock of hiking up and downhill hill.I will continue to take them with me for all future hikes now that I am getting in shape again. I am sure there are lighter better poles out there but not at this price. I would recommend trekking poles to any hiker and these poles have been great so far and I would buy them again.Citizen X
Literal Life Savers!!!

Uses this item to hike 18 miles across Grand Canyon. I got hurt 4 miles in and used these sticks to help get me out of the canyon for the last 14 miles,,,,They were amazing, can not believe they held my weight the entire time and I relied on them completely to help not put any pressure on my knees. I ended up use the right one as a crutch more then as a hiking stick, I keep saying the entire hike that I needed to write a review on how amazing these sticks were. They were a life saver, I don't know how I could of done it without. It was such a painful experience but I was able to feel so blessed to have gotten these sticks. They ROCK!!!PsThey were light and easy to adjust and naturally price was write!!
Perfect!!!

An older relative is having difficulty with severe arthritis and is particularly stiff getting up and down from chairs and with back pain while walking. These hiking sticks have helped tremendously!!! They are sturdy yet lightweight, much less clumsy than canes or a walker, and they look great! No complaints!!!
New lease on life...mobility!!!

I love my walking sticks and use them all the time
May 18, 2016
I love my walking sticks and use them all the time. I initially had some problem with one which was quickly replaced. The service was excellent.A new one was sent right out and I didn't even have to go through the hassle of returning the problem one.I especially like the shock absorbing feature and the fact that they telescope.
These are made for hiking

I ordered these for my husband but really didn't think would be this good for the price. Extends really good and sturdy enough for a 6foot man, 200 lbs. He also likes the idea of using them at waist length or shoulder or higher, depending on the activity.

These fit my REI TRAVERSE poles just fine. I use one layer/wrap of 1" black grip tape between pole and tip for solid retention to the pole.
Perfect replacement tips!
August 18, 2015
These work great. Perfect replacement tips. My son uses trekking poles a lot because he has a physical disability. He can walk, but he gets fatigued walking far or long....so the trekking poles take some of the stress off his lower body and put it on his upper body, but he sure goes through these tips! Thankfully, I can buy a bunch of them. There was a 5 and a 10 pack. I bought this 5 pack because I wanted to make sure they fit and worked as well as the original ones we got with the poles. These do the job! Thanks!*Personal purchase

Fine for the price
September 23, 2017
For the price these are good. The 4 miles into my hike and the bottom cap fell off and was lost. It's still functions fine but felt a bit off. By buddy had the same sticks and bent one when he fell. I was glad to have them but if you're doing heavy hiking, they might not last more than a trip or two.
Good product
June 3, 2016
These poles, when extended provide good stability for walking, and are able to absorb pressure due to the shock absorbing construction. My only issue with them is extending and collapsing them. The mechanism for doing so is a bit difficult and doesn't work as easily as it should. Be careful when extending, and watch the lines on the sticks so you make sure you don't completely separate the sticks. I nearly did this the first time I used them. It was cumbersome to retract them, but I got it done.
I'm amazed at how much of a difference they make
February 27, 2016
As a new user to trekking poles, I'm amazed at how much of a difference they make. Not only do they make trekking uphill easier, but take a lot of jarring impact off the ankles on big steps down, and adds welcome stability. As someone who hikes in areas frequented by rattle snakes, I have to say I also enjoy the security of knowing these are out in front me and present them with an early target. I know that's a little paranoid, and I doubt they will ever come in handy for that, but I enjoy the security of it. All of that said, having now used trekking poles and read some of the reviews for other brands, I would probably be tempted to pay a little more for one of the higher end brands. None the less, these are a solid product for the price point.
Good First Pair
June 29, 2015
After having the walking poles fitted to the correct height by my physical therapies and learning the proper way to use them, they are wonderful. Getting them to the correct height is a real pain. They are not easily adjusted. I could not figure out how to turn the spring part on and decided it would be more of a hindrance than a help. The first thing I lost was the tips. I ended out order 5 pack two weeks later. I would say for the money, they are worth their value and good for a first pair. Next pair, I will be a more informed shopped and by some at a sporting's good store were I can try them out.
... a gift for an elderly relative (walking sticks were recommended by physical therapist)
May 8, 2015
Bought these as a gift for an elderly relative (walking sticks were recommended by physical therapist). Was very excited to receive them. However, one stick would not lock correctly which is a big safety issue, especially for an elderly person. I don't know if the locking issue is common to these types of sticks or this brand in particular. However, Brainy Trade is sending a replacement for the stick that has the problem so my relative will still have a complete pair of working walking sticks which is important since the physical therapist recommended using both together. It's not hard to figure out how to lock the sticks but I have no idea how the anti shock turns on and off (supposedly it does). It would be good if the manufacturer had some directions on line somewhere for that feature.

Practice adjusting these poles at home before hiking. I had difficulty distending one end but discovered it had to be pulled out completely and reinserted. No problems after that. Once you're familiar with how they work, it's easy. They helped me balance and keep firmer footing on rocky slopes.

I like using these so much better than a walker
October 4, 2016
The trekking poles sometimes come apart and need to be reassembled, which was difficult the first few times, but now it's usually no big deal. I like using these so much better than a walker! Health problems often require me to use a mobility device like a wheelchair or trekking poles, and these trekking poles have been very helpful!
Worth the money!!
November 21, 2015
Reasonably priced and sturdy. Be careful not to extend past the 'Stop' line. If you do, the segments will seperate & you will have a very, very difficult time re-attaching them. There are no instructions or warnings for you, so forewarned is forearmed!! Nevertheless, I would recommend them.

Good Starter Trekking poles that were thoroughly trail tested.
November 9, 2015
These were my first set of trekking poles and they are life ( leg) savers . I took these on a 30+ mile hike on the Art Loeb Trail in the Smoky Mountains in NC. Which is probably the hardest trail in Pisgah National forest as far as elevation change goes. If you are on the fence about getting some, get them. My wife and I kept saying thank goodness we got these the whole time. IMO for the price these are great! I only have one complaint. I had to be vigilant about making sure the poles were tight so they wouldn't collapse in. I never came close to taking a spill because of that but could see it happening. I found that they had loosened up ever 7-8 miles or so.

Slightly loose for my poles--but still a bargain
April 16, 2016
These replacement tips were quite economical and enabled me to use my Pinnacle Mountainsmith trekking poles on a recent vacation. The only problem is that they are a very slightly loose fit, and I had one fall off. Fortunately, because there were 5 in the pack, I was able to replace it with one of the remaining tips, and this one did not come off. This is not the first time I have ordered these tips, nor is it the first time that one of the tips has slipped off (when it gets stuck in some kind of crevice). In general, though, I've been very happy with them--I just have to remember to carry some extras with me.

Helpful on rocks and other hard surfaces
October 6, 2015
These replacement tips work nicely on my BAFX Products® - 2 Pack - Anti Shock Hiking / Walking / Trekking Trail Poles - 1 Pair, giving me better grip on rocks and other surfaces. Also important, is that they help stop my trekking poles from sinking into the dirt, which can throw off your balance when you least expect it. They eventually wear through, but it's expected.4 stars only because the price seems a little steep compared to the actual pair of trekking poles themselves, which are around $24.00

I mean, they're hiking poles ***UPDATED***
December 18, 2015
***************************************UPDATE********************************************I had been using just one of the poles since I purchased them, but I got it stuck in a crevice and the bottom portion bent and wouldn't fully collapse. It still worked, and locked into place, but I wanted to be able to fully collapse, so I pulled the other pole out of the closet and took it out on its first trip. It broke 2 miles into a 12 mile trek. The bottom portion would not lock into place, so I was stuck with a cane instead of a pole, which was extremely disappointing, especially in the very boggy and muddy area we were hiking in since I was using the pole as a poker to check for muddy suck holes. I've lowered my rating because only 50% of the item purchased really worked as expected.****************************************************************************************************************************************************************They do exactly what you expect of them. I was looking for a set of reasonably priced, light and collapsible hiking poles that are easy to break down and attach to my pack when not in use. I usually only use one stick, but I wanted a pair in case I needed them during a longer hike, or in case my boyfriend wanted to use one, too. They are nice to have when traversing slippy ground or descending down a hill. They feel sturdy and I've never had any issue with them collapsing. Once during a long hike, and while not using a stick, I slipped on wet leaves covering a rock and pulled my groin. I pulled out both sticks and used them like crutches for the remaining 5 miles. I felt secure with these holding a good portion of my weight. They are easy and quick to adjust. I'm 5'10" and I don't fully extend the poles, so they would be suitable for someone taller. The wrist straps take a little trial and error to get the adjustment right, but I haven't experienced the strap slipping or coming loose.

Unable to adjust one of these after trying to lengthen it. Partially open and definitely not secure to use for hiking. The other one seems ok so I am just going to use the single pole. Disappoints me.

Not horrible, but you get what you pay for
October 6, 2016
I recently purchased these and used them on a 60 mile hike on the Appalachian trail. They survived the journey but it wasn't without issues. They expand at the top and the bottom. I found that over time they would fall down at either location. In some cases they would get stuck and pull apart. This wasn't anything I couldn't get past, but while hiking 18 miles a day it was rather annoying. You get what you pay for though and their quality is reflective in the price. If you are planning to hike often or long distances I would recommend you upgrade to something in the $25 - $30 range. The quality fro the straps and handle were fine and I have no complaints with that. Again my only complaint is the tightening system which will get lose over time. If you test it every so often you should be ok though. The person I was hiking with had these https://www.amazon.com/Mountaintop-Trekking-Poles-2-Pack/dp/B01BBPHTME/ref=sr_1_13?s=outdoor-recreation&rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1475772173&sr=1-13&keywords=hiking+poles&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011 which seemed to fair better and only cost $10 more.
the poles are great looking and the tips are ok
July 16, 2016
Just got them .. the poles are great looking and the tips are ok.. I have tennis elbow so the vibrations do bother it but it helps me with my form.. I can suck in my gut and walk straight and at a faster pace.. I feel confident using these walking poles since I am considered at hospitals a fall risk and I'm only 50 yrs. old.. So if you need to get up and walk I would highly recommend these poles.. I also have a bad back along with all my muscles feeling like I have the sticky stuff from duct tape and the poles have not aggravated my back.. since I just got them I only gave it a 3.. but I give it a 5 for the price range.. and for sure if you're taller then 5'6 you'll have to go taller and you will not be able to use these poles :)
This is the second time I used the poles and one pole gave way.. the mechanism was locked but the pole still slid and would not stay in place.. they're great when they work but when the mechanisms are not the greatest I would say it's up to you if you want to deal with returning back.. and I still rate it ok .. for the price is not bad but you get what you paid for...

June 11, 2016
These are bigger internal diameter than I had hoped (not 10mm or 3/8 id as some noted in their reviews) and thus didn't work for my application, but they are also a relatively hard rubber that doesn't grip well. I put them on my trekking poles, and they would be OK for pavement, but not smooth surfaces (slipped all over my hardwood floor, did OK on sidewalk). I prefer the Black Diamond tips that are a softer rubber and snug fit.

Not quite as substantial as I expected. The smallest extension component bends rather easily ... i.e., does not support much wight. But I'm using them and they are serving the purpose for which they were bought. This is a 2nd review of the same product after several weeks of use. The next to smallest extension has also proven to be too fragile. It also has bent. I've had to shorten the extensions for the Hiking Sticks to be reasonably useful and dependable. I bought the poles a few months ago and tested them to make sure they worked....well today I took them out on a hike with me and they failed miserably! I have friends that had no problem with these poles, but in my case they did not work out. I recommend that if you do buy these that you test them strongly as soon as you get them in case you have any issues. I tightened after twisting the poles out to the appropriate length and one of the poles failed immediately. The other pole kept sliding in at inopportune moments...I was very nervous and don't want to take another chance at purchasing another set.

Buyer Beware
March 4, 2016
I don't normally write reviews, but I'm very annoyed with this product. I didn't expect much for poles under $30, but I did expect them to at least mostly work for awhile. The mechanisms are sticky and difficult to work so telescoping them down to the small size just isn't practical. Will be too much trouble to get them adjusted for hiking again. I could have lived with that. The real clincher though is the bottom piece of one of the poles won't tighten making it completely unusable as it won't stay at the correct height. It's too much trouble to send them back so it's just money down the drain. Very annoying. I'm sure some of them work just fine, but some don't... so buyer beware! These are obviously cheap and poorly constructed. Now I know why people spend $100+ for trekking poles. I thought I'd go with some cheap poles to start so I could try them out to see if I really want to spend money on the quality brands... these are broken straight out of the box so I didn't even get to use them once. Very disappointing.

November 5, 2014
These poles seemed nice at the start, used them on a hike and all went very well, I was pretty happy. I collapsed the poles, set them aside for a while and then tried using them again a month or so later. I extended the poles and then tried tightening them and they would not lock properly. They felt as if they were locked but once even a little bit of weight was put on them they would collapse under me! That was a bit scary at first. After attempting to tighten them multiple times and have other try to tighten them as well they simply continued to slide under any weight at all!Took them apart to attempt to see what may have been wrong with the lock, could find anything wrong with the lock in particular, just seems like the lock just isn't that good. The lock seems to be made of really cheap plastic so I think that might have something to do with the issue, I dont really know. Was beyond the return period so I had to throw them away. Lesson learned.

I should have paid more attention to the reviews of the other people who reported problems with the "easy locking adjustment system". Well, it didn't work, no matter what direction I twisted the poles, I could not get them to lock into position. You know the saying, "you get what you pay for", well, in this case, I got more than I paid in terms of the hassle and time of going through the process of returning them. Save your time and buy a higher price item.
I did the rest of the trail on a bad knee with a stick
August 19, 2016
My husband purchased these for me and I am writing this review under his name since he is a verified purchaser. I checked that the poles were functional before taking them on a recent multi-day hike. In short, one pole did not lock into the extended position when we got to the trailhead. The other pole bent at the tip on a descent. When we resumed hiking after stopping for a break, we discovered that that pole also did not lock. I did the rest of the trail on a bad knee with a stick. Do not purchase these unless you are on flat land and don't wish to raise or lower the poles. I would recommend a stick first either way. I think it's reasonable to expect at least 5 miles from a set of trekking poles. I wish I had taken a picture of them after we threw them in the trash on day one.
I felt these are pretty much worthless

I felt these are pretty much worthless. The locking mechanism gives away easily and will not tighten. I have locking mechanisms that won't turn at all, or never tighten. Either way the poles will not lock into position which makes them unusable.

Sad offering

I was not impressed with the durability of these tips. I was not impressed with the presentation of them as well. When I opened the shoddy packaging, the tips actually had dirt on them as if they were used. 2 of the tips were worn considerably more than the other 3 tips in the package, so it was very clear they were used, not new as stated. It should also be mentioned that the tips are not identical. 1 of the tips was much bigger than the rest in size, and would not stay on my hiking pole, the other 4 tips did a good job fitting. So expecting to have 5 extra brand new hiking pole tips, I was saddened to only get two brand new ones, two clearly used ones, and 1 that was useless. I would have expected better from a company like this.
