Compact fire extinguisher
September 7, 2017
I hope I never need to use these, but they got great reviews for doing the job if needed. I bought several and have placed them in different parts of the house. I love how compact this is.
Great easy to use fire extinguisher
September 3, 2017
These are so easy to use and reliable fire extinguishers. Much better than those bulky awkward ones that might or might not work. Takes up a lot less space too and gives you peace of mind for the kitchen accidents that might happen. Highly recommend it.
Saved my house from a potential catastrophe and the chicken was salvaged
April 30, 2017
I just ordered the two pack to replace the original two I bought at a big box store a few years ago. I keep them in the kitchen pantry. Easter Sunday I put a chicken on the rotisserie and lit our well maintained, less than 5 year old grill that had a full tank of propane and came back in the house. Not 3 minutes later the grill was engulfed in flames. I grabbed one of these extinguishers and was able to knock the fire back while standing a good distance away. Wearing leather gardening gloves my husband opened the bottom of the grill where the tank resides and I continued to spray while he turned off the gas. The hose that feeds the gas to the burners failed where it entered the grill. The hose looked fine when I last cleaned the grill and the connection was tight. You can bet I'll be replacing those annually on our new grill, though the new one does not have a rubber component so should last. The chicken was unharmed, well it was already dead, put in the oven and we enjoyed a nice cocktail while our heart rates returned to normal.
Excellent

Excellent home fire extinguishers. I now keep one in the bedroom as well as the kitchen.
Available when needed, and really effective!
March 10, 2017
I have one of these in the back of my Tundra pick-up truck which has a topper on it: I thought it was pretty cool to have a fire extinguisher with same name as my truck !We camp a lot, and once accidently spilled some Coleman fuel (naphtha gas) while cooking on the tailgate. Wow! 3 foot flames and Visions of our whole truck burning up in seconds. Fortunately the First Alert was right there at the tailgate. It took no more than a couple seconds to grab it and extinguish the fire! This is the way a fire extinguisher should work: readily available, and charged with a truly effective fire retardant.Thank you, First Alert!
Great backup extinguisher
January 9, 2016
This is an incredible little extinguisher! It's replacing our first Tundra extinguisher which, without question, saved our home during a kitchen fire. Awesome knockdown, it stopped an out of control stove fire faster than I've seen CO2 work! What sold me for life...the unit was 5 years past it's expiration!

Great peace of mind.
September 22, 2017
This was for my daughters third floor apartment at school. A bit confusing at first but she was able to figure it out once she practiced putting it in a couple times. She did not deploy it but saw how easy it was once its mounted. Hopefully never gets tested.
The ladder comes out of the box easily and has "ears" that fit over the window sill
September 3, 2017
I bought this item for my daughter's college apartment. Though I hope she never has to use it, it just gives a person peace of mind to know that she at least has a way to get down from the second floor apartment. I opened the box to inspect the item and it looks well made. It is a one use only product though. It is much lighter and smaller than the chain and steel tubing fire ladder we currently have in our home. The ladder comes out of the box easily and has "ears" that fit over the window sill. It looks like it can be quickly and easily deployed.
Could save a life if you live in a two-story house!
May 24, 2017
A family in our community recently died because they could not get out of their two story home. My husband is a firefighter and was one of the ones to find the family huddled beside the upstairs window. It was one of the saddest things ever. It was a mom and a dad and two kids. The stairwell in their home had burned up and they couldn't get out. If they had had a fire ladder they might have lived. After my husband got home from that call he ordered one of these on Amazon immediately. We recently moved to a two-story home and had not bought one yet. It is not worth risking it. We actually plan on buying another one to have on both sides of the house upstairs just in case we can't get to one. The only other thing I thought about that this latter would not solve is the issue of having small children. Obviously adults could easily climb down this ladder out of a window but toddlers or babies could not. I actually thought about tying ropes to a laundry basket and sticking it in a closet because if I was home alone and my husband was not there and I had two kids at home, I would have no way of getting them down a ladder by myself. But I could stick my baby in a laundry basket and lower him down with rope. That may sound crazy but it's probably what I would have to do in case of an emergency if I was by myself with my kids. Just an idea for other mamas with small children. So grateful they make a product like this to keep families safe!
Great addition to your fire plan!
October 25, 2016
If you would like some additional info or photo's please comment and I'll update the review with any new info I canThis is a good piece of Equipment to have as part of your fire plan. Just make sure you buy the proper length for the home.I like to have this prepped and ready to go next to the fire masks at all times.Ideally having them in each bedroom where someone sleeps with a firemask would be preferred. This way if there is an emergency their escape doesn't require opening doors and/or navigating dangerous hallways.A possible solution is to have a tote, with a mask, a blanket, a gallon of water and a ladder in it. This way your loved ones have a "fire kit". They can use the water to wet a blanket and either place under the door or wear over their shoulders. They have the mask for smoke and the ladder to escape.Having the ladder is great but what if it's not accessible to you or your loved one because they're separated by the fire or smoke? It's just part of your family fire plan.
Safety is paramount.
July 25, 2016
As a firefighter this was one of the first things we purchased after we moved into our 2 story house. There is simply no reason not to invest in something so cheap that can save your life. Lord willing you will not need this device but you do not want to be in the position of needing it and not having it. I recommend at least 1 in the upstairs of your housing unit in a place that is easy to get to. This ladder is well made and easy to deploy if necessary so that even kids can do it if left at home and the worst happens. I would certainly recommend this product to others.
Good buy.

For apartment

Glad to have these in my apartment. Put them on separate sides. Hopefully in the event of a fire they would be helpful or at least maintain some safety. Can't know unless it happens but good to prepare. Came packaged as described.

Thin drizzly spray but saved our kitchen.
May 5, 2017
Today i had to use this stuff. I accidentlay set a paper plate on the stove and had to put it out with this stuff. Sprays very thin and runny, kinda spurts really but it saved our kitchen. Really works. I recommend having a couple different brands/ types on hand just in case. I took advice from one reviewer and drew an arrow on top so I would see which way to spray. I'm sure glad I did. Put a couple of these where you can get them easily in an emergency NOT right by the stove where the flames will be. Just point and spray. I'm so glad I had this.
Hope it works
April 11, 2017

I love the idea of this type of extinguisher
November 2, 2016
I Love the idea lets hope I never have to post a review about using it! We have a toaster oven in a large pantry and this seemed like the perfect spot to put this type of extinguisher. The full size kitchen extinguisher is a few feet away.

Oops! Accidental deployment with UPDATE
March 23, 2017
Well like almost everyone else I wondered if it is possible to re-pack this ladder after it has been deployed (like so you can practice).Well I guess I will find out because mine deployed accidentally while I was hanging it up in my closet.I will post an update laterUPDATE: Amazon is amazing. They are replacing my ladder. It does appear that the ladder can be re-packed, but not with a lot of confidence. I did not practice with it because at my age, I don't like the risk/benefit ratio over a concrete driveway. I don't mind not being able to practice with it; in an emergency I'm sure we will manage. If you really want to practice, I would recommend buying 2. At $48 each it would be worth giving you peace of mind. If you don't like it on the practice run just return the second one for a refund.
Appears to be good quality. Hopefully will never have to use it
March 23, 2017
Not much to say. Appears to be good quality. Hopefully will never have to use it.
I hope I never have to use it, but do trust that it'll work if I do
January 24, 2017
The ladder appears to be sturdy, and made of quality products, though I hopefully will never have to test it out. I have not tested it out, because these really are supposed to be a one-time use only (manufacturer's guarantee), but do trust that it'd work if need be. The metal is a bit sharp, so be aware of that, and store it in an easily accessible place.

Good Idea, but...
August 7, 2016
I bought a pair of these. I hope I NEVER need them. I keep them in a cabinet near the kitchen because most house fires begin in the kitchen. If you want to see demonstrations of this product there are videos all over the Internet. One suggestion - If you grab this extinguisher up during a fire in low light it would be hard to quickly tell which way to point it. The small white nozzle on the top turns and does not indicate the direction of spray. You have to look at it very closely before using it. I used a fine point felt tip marker to draw an arrow on top of the nozzle that indicates the direction of the spray (see photo). That's just a small thing that could be very important in an emergency. Suppose you pressed it in low light and it shot you in the face and eyes. Could you find your way out of a burning house then? That is something that could easily be corrected by the manufacturer.
Hope these work

I bought six of these for my tenants. After reading some negative reviews I hope these work.

October 29, 2015
I don't know if this meets my need, as, unfortunately, I haven't had a fire yet. When I do, I will let you know if this was effective. It appears to be a very useable product. I would note, that the literature, suggests that this works for small fires. I live in a condo, so this might be just the ticket. But if you are in a larger home, you might want a traditional fire extinguisher to handle large fires, and have this product in a kitchen or bedroom.

One time use only.
March 30, 2016
I bought this for the safety of my daughter (we keep it in her bedroom right next to the window). My only complaint is this is a one time use only ladder. Although she feels safer with it in her room, I wish we could have practiced using it before an emergency situation.
Little different than I expected
April 1, 2014
I thought it would be easy enough for my 9 year old to manage but guess I had too high of expectations. I feel I would have to get to them to get this out the window and set up and it states 1 time use which takes away the fire drill. I would have better luck with a ladder outside of their window and helping them out than this.

Don't buy
June 21, 2017
Here is what Consumer Reports says about this type of fire extinguisher:With their low prices and ease of use, aerosol fire sprays are a tempting purchase. But the sprays are no substitute for a fire extinguisher. In fact, in Consumer Reports' tests the sprays sometimes made a grease fire flare up, which could make it spread. Performance problems caused us to judge two aerosol fire sprays—the First Alert AF400 Tundra Fire Extinguishing Spray and Shield Fire Protection Kitchen Guard—Don't Buy: Performance Problem. Now we've found a third brand being advertised called Knockout 360 that's also an aerosol fire spray.None of the sprays has a pressure indicator that shows whether the unit is ready for use. Although their labels state that they are not intended to replace a standard National Fire Protection Association compliant fire extinguisher (NFPA 10), that statement can be easily overlooked. The sprays have a relatively short shelf life of three years as opposed to six to 12 for dry chemical units. We recommend that you pass on the Knockout 360 and any other fire fighting spray that lacks these key features and buy a conventional fire extinguisher with a gauge that meets NFPA 10 requirements.

a tangled mess
June 1, 2014
The small strap is insufficient to hold the three story version together. Simply trying to move it from my bedroom to my closet caused it to twist into a tangled mess. I'd like to return it but I don't know that I can fit it back into the box.
It is my fault that I didn't read the fine print..
October 20, 2013
this ladder is for ONE use only..guess I can't tell you how it works since I can't try it out without throwing it out! I didn't see that until I read it on the outside of the box. I think there are others that are good for more than one run!
The ladder unfolded when I test it
July 3, 2011
The product manual suggests to try two times to hand the ladder over your window without deploying it-- just to learn how to do in an emergency. Well, after I attached the assembly outside my window and tried to bring it back, it's unfurled. The release strap seems to be too narrow so that the entire folded ladder can slip through it. I did manage to pull the whole thing back into the room through the window and re-folded it, but they say it is for a single use only, so I am not sure how useful it is now.
Can't be tested
April 23, 2011
Please be sure you understand that this product can not be tested before use. It is a ONE TIME use only safety device. Kind of ironic since all professionals recommend testing your escape plan ahead of time. Think about what you are going to do as young children are afraid to go down it in their panic. Can you carry them and descend?I suspect the manufacturer is concerned about liability if the ladder is damaged and reused so they put their bottom line ahead of your families safety. Too bad.

NO GOOD! DON"T USE! GET A BIG EXTINGUISHER
January 1, 2017
We had a fire in the basement. The spray is very limited in width. It didn't do anything to stop the fire, that's whyit costs 12 dollars. We grabbed the burning towels by hand that were on a rack and in minutes would have penetrated the ceiling raftersand threw them in a nearby sink with water. This was a VERY CLOSE CALL for us. In minutes the fire would have spread to all the other towelson the rack and then the ceiling. It's useless in an emergency situation. Get an expensive extinguisher with a WIDE SPRAY. There is no power in this it dribbles out the liquid in a pencil like diameter.
It is not rated as a fire extinguisher and might actually make the situation worse or cause risk of life if it is used ...
December 8, 2016
This is a piece of junk that should be illegal to be sold. It is NOT a fire extinguisher. The legal guys got around the law by calling it a fire extinguishing tool and/or fire extinguishing agent. It is not rated as a fire extinguisher and might actually make the situation worse or cause risk of life if it is used that way since you will lose valuable time.
Exploded and shot into ceiling!
January 10, 2014
I am a property manager of an apt. complex. A resident just called us down to see that this fire extinguisher exploded and shot into the ceiling. It is sticking out of his ceiling now over his refrigerator. The bottom of it looks like it was sucked into the canister.???
Unsafe, Recall this Item!
November 15, 2013
Well I have to add another one to the it didn't work at all file.I purchased a two pack of these about a year ago from Home Depot for my grandmother. I figured that they would be simple for her to operate and therefore more effective. I just spoke with her and she recently tried to use them with poor results. She had a small paper fire next to her wood stove, and after both of them failed to expel anything she had to fill up a pot with tap water and put out the fire that way.I know that there are reviews of these things working great and saving the day, however unless 100% of all units sold can be guaranteed to function properly 100% of the time they need to be taken off the market and a full recall enacted. without a pressure gauge installed there is no way to know if you have a good one or one that has slowly leaked out its pressure over time. Please do not buy this Item (from anywhere). if you have one already take it back or throw it away and buy a real fire extinguisher. A box of baking soda next to the stove would be more effective than a can that won't spray.

One time use only - per Kidde
November 11, 2013
I have been doing some research on this and would like to have an escape ladder that really functions well since this is something that I want to have that will do its job superbly to save my family if it is used. I called Kidde since it is unclear why this is one time use only. The answer from the Kidde representative is that if it is deployed, you can try to fold/pack it back but it is likely for the ropes to not deploy again completely and get entangled, in which case the ladder becomes unsafe to use. I wish this could be repacked because I would like to practice using a ladder and have my kids practice so that I know exactly what to do and what to expect. (You can never be too prepared.) During my research, I found out that this is a copy of the X-it ladder X-IT 2 Story (13') Portable Emergency Fire Escape Ladder and Kidde paid $17.4 million to settle the case. (Sad to find out things like this...) X-it ladder tells you to practice and shows you how to repack the ladder. It is more expensive. But if you practice 3-4 times, you get your money's worth, I guess. (I wish there is a product that works well with a good price.)
the instructions say it all
September 24, 2011
the instructions say that you can not use it more than once, which makes it even rolling it out the window useless. Just to practice and show how to use it will render the product useless according to the instructions. Either the instructions are wrong or the product is useless.
