Five Star Reviews: | 61% Replaced the Kurig with this. Load the water the ... September 10, 2017 Replaced the Kurig with this. Load the water the night before, add coffee in the morning, start it and shower. The coffee aroma fills the house, reminds me of visiting grandma's as a kid. I use it without any type of filter. Unlike the coffee press I tried, you slip this pot over to the warming burner and it keeps warm without any fuss. The first few times you use it, you'll need to monitor the heat until you figure out how much/little is needed so that it peculates but does not boil over. Once you figure out the amount of heat you can turn it on and let it do it's thing. Pot makes about 4 American size mugs of coffee. No more plastic! January 21, 2017 Happy happy happy, no more plastic coffee makers! It says to fill the coffee 'filter' with 9 tbsp of coffee, holy cow that would be strong, I use 3 and it's perfect for me. Makes good coffee, easy to use, easy to clean, what more could you ask for? Coffee is important! Oh, I replaced the plastic lid handle too so it's glass. Perfect for my needs August 4, 2016 I purchased this over the Farberware stovetop percolator based on reviews that said it worked better for smaller servings of coffee. I use just two cups (16 oz) of water to fill one large mug (15 oz) with coffee every morning. I'm sensitive to caffeine so that one mug is all I can have and I want it to be perfect. I am getting a perfect cup of coffee with this. As with any method it takes some experimenting to find what suits you best.Things to consider....** no serving markings for filling with water...I use a measuring cup. Not a problem for me but it might bother some.** I use finer than what is usually recommended for a percolator grind, which can clog the basket. I like my coffee strong and the finer grind helps me get there. This requires a paper filter or the basket will get clogged and things won't flow through properly. Even after ten minutes...standing water in the grinds. In theory I didn't like the idea of filtering my coffee (oils add to flavor they say) but I did what I had to do to get a strong cup of coffee. And things flow perfectly with the filter. (Just a regular basket filter with a little slit torn in the middle). And the coffe still tastes great to me. Even a slightly coarser grind eliminated this problem, but my coffee wasn't strong enough that way. So unless you like a finer grind, this probably won't be an issue for you.**This seems to be an issue with all percolators, but if you like strong coffee you may not be able to brew a full pot....the grounds basket would be overfilled. Now admittedly, I haven't tried this. But I use 6 tablespoons of coffee (and 16 oz of water) for my one large mug and it's getting pretty full. I've used up to 9 tablespoons when making coffee for hubby too (he gets a smaller mug) and the grinds basket seems like it might be at capacity....and we're making just one large and one small mug (with 24 ounces of water which is about 4 "servings" according to the coffee industry). But again, I haven't really tested its upper limits. I'll update if I try it....hate to waste coffee. This shouldn't be an issue unless you like really strong coffee. This machine is very solid and well made. I did replace the plastic knob with glass as others have noted. The folded upper lip does mean drying out the inside with paper towel as others have noted as well. I loved that the bottom was all one piece, not two like the Farberware.I always enjoy reading how people make their coffee...so if you like that info here goes. I heat the water on just above medium heat. When it's getting hot I add the stem and basket, twirling slightly to make sure it's seated at the bottom. I put the lid on and only have to wait a moment for the fist blurp into the glass knob. I then turn it down to medium/low and percolate for 10-12 minutes. I recently changed grinders and noticed I needed an extra two minutes, so little changes in your grind can affect your perc time. The coffee is delicious. I love vintage electric percolators, but found myself wanting more control over percolating time and this stovetop percolator is perfect for that....lets me get it just right....strong! ITS RETRO, IT WELL MADE, AND IT WORKS! November 8, 2014 Well made coffee pot, I was tired of those plastic drip thing that you buy and they break in no time. I am over fifty and I have been through so many of them in my lifetime that I have lost count. This pot is made well, stainless is fairly heavy. All of the inside works are also stainless, so you know that it should last for years. The outside has a mirror finish and presents itself very well when left on the stove top. But most important it makes GREAT coffee. After brewing, turn you burner off and leave the pot sitting right where it is, the coffee will stay hot for a long time with no burnt taste. Clean up is very easy, a little soap and water and you are ready to go again. Wet the basket a little before you put your coffee in this will prevent grounds from getting into you brewed coffee. One thing I really love about this pot is that even the cheaper coffee taste great when you use a percolator, so you may find that there is no need to pay $10.00 for a 11.0 ounce bag of coffee any more. I hope this helps you in making a decision to try brewed coffee again, you will be pleased with the results. Good to the last drop! September 25, 2014 Brought me back to my childhood. Makes a great cup of coffee! We do what the directions mentioned and wet the basket before we add the grounds. All of the grounds stay in the basket after its perked so we don't end up with any at the bottom of our cups. I did have to add a lock washer to the handle because the handle kept getting loose. The lock washer keeps it tight. I also did a little adjustment to the lid because it was getting loose and popping up a little when the coffee percolated. That problem is also easily fixed. The stainless steel finish is very shiny. I purchased the glass dome and very glad I did. The plastic dome that comes with the percolator is very small and cheap. We fresh grind our coffee beans at the grocery store. They have a setting for perked coffee which is a course grind and works very well. Regular coffee such as Folger's also works, we just like the course grind better. We were also very pleased with the shipping. It was delivered at the beginning date they mentioned. Great Coffee Percolator December 24, 2007 This is a great little coffee percolator, especially for the inexpensive price. For one person it makes more than I need, since the full "8 cups" comes out to about 4 normal mugs full.I used the original plastic top for the first use, and it didn't seem to get too hot at all. Some mentioned the top melting in other reviews. Once the pot reaches a boil turn the heat down to medium, since it will still percolate there's no reason to boil on a red hot "high" burner (which may have caused the melting they mentioned).Just in case I also purchased the replacement glass top (B0000CFM6K) advertised with the percolator here. It attached nice and tight, and works great too. I'm sure the inexpensive glass replacement top will last as long as the coffee pot.Another great thing I noticed was that when I wet the basket, as recommended, before loading the coffee grinds no grinds ended up in the coffee at all. I thought there would be, but no grinds in any cups of coffee after a half dozen uses now. It's a great little percolator.(I also added some photos to add to the stock image above so you can see the size of the pot, and a comparison of the stock plastic and replacement glass tops)UPDATE 6/10/2015 - It has been almost a decade now, and both the percolator and replacement glass top have both held up and performed flawlessly. I could not be happier. One of the better purchases in my life, I lucked out. Highly recommended (if they still sell them). | 71% Well worth it! October 25, 2017 Perfect fit for the GSI Perk! This is well worth it because grounds still sneak into your coffee through the basket. Will buy again!!!! October 21, 2017 The filter fit my camping coffee pot perfectly. Made lots of pots of coffee and these filters kept the ground from getting into the pot. So happy to have found them. I didn't know filters like this still existed. Thank you!! Perfect October 13, 2017 Didn't even know these existed until I stumbled across them. Great idea. Works great at decreasing the grounds in the coffee. I say decreases, because it does not totally eliminate the grounds leaking, but it definitely reduces the amount to an absolute minimal. Will continue to purchase. Melitta 3.5 inch disc coffee filter September 26, 2017 Had old farberware electric percolator in attic we decided to use. Most coffee now is ground finer for drip coffee makers so a little sediment would be in bottom of pot. Put these round filters in bottom of coffee basket and have perfect every time in a couple minutes. perclator filters May 7, 2017 These filters really work great. I would recommend these to other percolator users. There are small and take up little space. Sized just right! March 20, 2017 Fit was perfect! Arrived with coffee pot and keeps me in perk heaven! Great product, made to fit and I am loving the coffee! | 78% They always fit great. October 8, 2017 It's the 4th one I've replaced but it's not the products fault........it's my clumsiness. They always fit great. Fitz-All Universal rEplacement Top September 10, 2017 Fit my Perculator perfectly and very easy to install. Couldn't be happier with this March 20, 2017 We found a Stanley Item #: 10-01876-001 1.1 QT Adventure Percolator at Goodwill brand new, but missing the top. We ordered this and it fits perfectly! Couldn't be happier with this! |
Four Star Reviews: | 17% Small and durable stainless steel. Utilitarian. March 15, 2017 Nice little stove top or outdoor percolator. This could be used to heat up most liquids because it can be washed in between uses. Flavor of coffee is so much better with a perk March 2, 2017 Flavor of coffee is so much better with a perk! I was skeptical, but it's true. Every other type of coffee maker I can think of sends the water through once, but a percolator delivers water through the coffee several times, capturing flavor I never knew coffee could have. An entirely new level of coffee enjoyment. The things we've given up in the name of speed! Coffee shouldn't have been one of them.As for the pot itself, the handle seems very flimsily attached and both handle and pot use inexpensive materials.I used 3 measured cups of water to make two average cups of coffee. This pot accomplished that easily. Have not tried smaller measurements.Try true coffee for the first time! Nice little coffee percolator March 23, 2016 Nice little coffee pot. The stainless body seems of good thickness to take some camping abuse. The handle is well attached and is rather heavy feeling, leading me to believe it is not hollow and is solidly attached. Also it feels like the inside is lined with Teflon, at least that is how it feels. Now for the insides, they are stainless as well though the stem can be bent rather easy, and the basket does a very good job of keeping grounds out of the coffee. The only reason I gave 4 stars is the clear perc cap in made of plastic and not glass, I would have thought being Teflon lined stainless it would have had a glass dome. All said I am very pleased with this little percolator. It cleans easily but I took away a star because I have ... January 18, 2015 I have bought many coffee machines over the years and got tired of them breaking. I got this because we were moving overseas and we could use it there as well. Just 7-15 minutes on the stove and voila we have delicious coffee. I will never go back to the electric coffee machine again. It cleans easily but I took away a star because I have two and the inside of one seems sharper than the other. I also replaced the plastic knob on top as well with a glass one that I ordered from another seller. Also, I chose this model over other percolator models because it does not have any hidden seams inside the pot that could collect dirt or old coffee. Nice little pot May 15, 2014 We really enjoy this coffee pot. It would have been rated 5 stars except 1) its made in China, and 2 )the foolish plastic top; which I replaced immediately with the small glass replacement top as another reviewer mentioned. The Fitz-All (small) glass top fits perfectly, which I bought on Amazon too. The bottom of the coffee pot is relatively flat, which I needed as I have a glass top stove; and there have been no problems. The pot itself could have been a bit more heavy steel, but the insides are strong and seemingly steel not aluminum. It takes a little practice too with percolating times, coffee types, measurements etc to get that perfect cup, but I find that half the fun of a percolator pot. The price was great too, as I saw a similar (if not the same) pot in another catalogue for thirteen dollars more. Overall I am very happy with the pot, and would recommend it. Great cheap pot. February 10, 2014 I'm new to percolator coffee, little less convenient, but it taste much better then drip. The one I got was used\reduced price. I see why it was returned; brew tube was slightly bent, and the lid didn't stay down. EZ fix, I straightened the tube, and the lid had 3 catches that weren't sticking out so I bent them a little. Pot works perfectly..I priced aluminum ones at a sport store, about $8.00 cheaper. The strainer basket had holes drilled in it, unlike the Copco. The Copco strainer is stainless, and has squares slightly punched out for fine drainage, no chance of grounds in the coffee. | 13% A little overpriced.... November 4, 2017 Filters work fine, however just a little high in price. I can purchase filters for much cheaper. Good price and good quality October 14, 2017 These are good for the small percolator pot I bought. No real complaints other than the center holes are a bit difficult to pop open, and they're tight when you insert them over the stem of the pot. Not quite as easy to clean up as the square filters that you ... August 2, 2017 Works well in my Presto electric percolator. Not quite as easy to clean up as the square filters that you fold. Disc filters - okay July 22, 2017 It seems as if don't facilitate transferring flavor during the brewing process as well as the paper in other Melitta filters do but all in all they get the job done. I would like to have had a choice in paper used Helpful June 24, 2017 These work well to keep coffee grounds out of the coffee when using a percolator. Of course the grounds that get through the canister are few and settle to the bottom, so unless you are draining the percolator you can actually get by without them. Work well May 8, 2016 I'm using these with my Farberware Yosemite percolator. The coffee grounds cup is mostly closed on the sides and these filters fit flat on the bottom and do a good job of filtering out nearly all the grounds. | 8% works excelent, very univerasl, but aluminum backer not stainless August 21, 2017 VERY universal. Fit Well. I wish the metal backer was stainless and not aluminum. I'd be willing to pay extra for the stainless..... |
Three Star Reviews: | 7% It's ok February 8, 2017 This is a follow-up review after using it for couple months! The glass center of the lid does not fit securely, comes out to easily. The handle is very wobbly, after percolating there is always a small amount of coffee left in the pot, does not drain completely! , The same after washing, there's always a small amount of water even if it sets upside down overnight. The real fine grind does not allow the water to drain August 10, 2016 The jury is still out. I will have to try some differant grinds of coffee. The real fine grind does not allow the water to drain, don't know if basketholes are to small. Also it is messy to clean because of no filter, will have to check if theyare available. now it works fine! April 24, 2016 It wasn't making very strong coffee, after many attempts I realized the strainer cup holes were not stamped all the way through. I had to take a punch and finish the job, now it works fine! It makes coffee just fine. That's why it earned the 3 star "It's ... October 14, 2015 Don't forget to buy the needed accessories, a 'Measuring Cup". Why? This pot has no markings to indicate how to fill based on the cups you want. The manual details how much water for how many cups; 4, 6, or 8 cups. However, there are no fill level indicators. You must measure separately.Really! How much could it cost to add these markings?Oh by the way. It makes coffee just fine. That's why it earned the 3 star "It's okay" rating. Undecided February 4, 2015 I'm having a real hard time getting the hang of this.... I am typically a French Press coffee person but needed something without breakable parts. The French Presses consistently leave grounds in the coffee that have to be scooped out with a spoon once in your cup and the glass vestibule is easily broken.I like the look of this percolator and it cleans up easily, however, there is no etched measurement inside the pot as advertised. The company description states, " a handy water level indicator etched into the side ensures that brewers add the appropriate amount of water for their grinds". Because of this I have to measure out , in coffee cups, the amount of water. I'm sure after a while I'll be able to eye-ball it but for now, measurement is necessary. Second 'problem' is that since the basket is so small I have to put my finger over the tube hole so that grounds don't go into it when filling the basket.Last but certainly not least....the coffee constantly tastes burned. I'm probably boiling too long or something but if this continues I definitely be going back to the French Press. I am following the manufacturers instructions to "bring to a boil then reduce heat to simmer for 5-7 minutes". I'm cooking with gas so this may mean that the heat is just too hot even though there is barely a flame coming from the burner.Until I get the hang of this I am stuck trying to figure out how much sugar and cream it takes to make burnt coffee taste like not-burnt coffee. Pricey But Works October 19, 2009 I gave it 3 out of 5 or "average."It's a little pricey for what you get, but works as advertised.MSRP $34.95Weight: 21.5 oz.Materials: stainless steel, plastics.Country of origin: ChinaWas aware of lid falling off & easy workaround(simply bend the prongs on lid out.) No problems there.Wanted glass percolator top-- (OEM percolator top is plastic.) The "Fitz-All"--model 135- glass percolator top (recommended by amazon.com) fits onto the original lid just fine.***You don't need to buy the recommended `replacement lid' to have the glass percolator top!*** :)As others mention, biggest drawback is no fill indicators for water inside pot. Worse is fact that fill marks on outside are hidden behind the handle! (Not a very good design imo.) For DYI types, I'll share how I got indicator marks on inside of coffee pot at end of review.Summary:If you're on a budget, this coffee maker & recommended glass percolator top might be "best bang for your buck." For those who want fill marks & glass percolator top ready made... best look at other brands.--------Workaround for fill marks:--------Don't want to keep guessing at amount of water when half awake? Following is one way to get fill marks to show on inside of pot. As with any DYI project, caution is the word & do so at your own risk to possibly denting your coffee maker!1.) Remove handle. 2.) Notch a 2x4 for rim of coffee pot so that the wall of pot sits *flush* on the wood. 3.) Secure 2x4 to vice, use C-clamps on workbench, etc. 4.) Position coffee pot on 2x4 so that outside fill marks face up. 5.) Position small finishing screwdriver on horizontal fill marks. (IMPORTANT: Blade of screwdriver MUST be same width as fill marks, or risk denting wall of coffee pot!) 6.) Use rubber mallet or small hammer to lightly but firmly tap screwdriver positioned on each outside fill mark. 7.) Examine inside of pot. Fill lines visible? If not be patient & repeat. Took me three careful taps before I could see them, but didn't want to risk denting outside by tapping too hard. | 7% I would have been happier with these filters if they had sides so one ... January 21, 2017 Sent our percolator back because he brew time was not long enough, so e coffee was weak compared to our drip machine. I would have been happier with these filters if they had sides so one could just grab and dump the grinds like on our #4 filters. We still had to clean the grinds out of the basket. They do the job of keeping grinds out of the coffee though. Not really needed but good product. October 10, 2016 I'm sure these work for someone but I found it a hassle to use them as well as for some odd reason, having more coffee grounds ended up in the peculator than when I didn't use them. The diameter of the discs were good. It completely covered the bottom of the basket. If you use a fine ground coffee, you may need to use these. Not the easy fix I expected January 24, 2016 I was a bit disappointed in these disc coffee filters. For one thing if my basket is the least bit wet it is almost impossible to get them into place without the filter bunching up. Also I expected them to keep all of the sediment out of my herbal teas and it doesn't; it's possible that the basket wasn't draining quickly enough and causing them to get pushed out the top, but I quit using them before I figured that out. Either way they didn't work for me. It was OK, but was hoping to filter out ... December 18, 2014 It was OK, but was hoping to filter out 90% of the grounds left in the pot and 100% of the grounds in a cup of coffee. It filtered out about 40-50% in a cup of coffee. Does filter some but not what I was looking for. Even tried adding a second filter on top of the grounds in the basket, but didn't seem to make much difference overall. I use a Presto percolator. Okay, but not great... November 9, 2014 After trying all the tricks (wetting the filter for a better fit, one on bottom and top, etc.), this product is okay. I still got grounds in my coffee. I will stick with the wrap-around style, readily available from the grocery stores. | 5% |
Two Star Reviews: | 6% It was the perfect size however the lid is very difficult to remove ... March 8, 2017 It was the perfect size however the lid is very difficult to remove once the pot gets hot making it a hazard. Although I like the old fashioned perculator types September 8, 2015 Although I like the old fashioned perculator types, this model has a lid that does not fit properly and when you tip to pour the coffee, the lid falls off! I am returning this model and will try another brand with a better fitting lid! not worth the money March 10, 2014 the handle detached after a few weeks of use. the handle had to be re-screwed to the pot itself. this shouldn't happen on an item that costs as much as this one. would not recommend the product. 2 weeks and it broke February 20, 2013 There is a spring that is spot welded to the stem that is suppose to hold up the peculator basket. With in 2 weeks the welds gave out and the basket now slides all the way to the bottom of the stem and sits in the coffee. Up until that point it was making great coffee. Most other stems I have seen, flare our to stop the basket from sliding down, but I guess this design saves about 2 cents per pot. Found a solution to the broken spring. I wrapped copper wire around the stem and that holds the basket up. One month into using this pot the plastic dome broke. The treads stripped off, so now I pry the lid off the pot using my fingers to remove the basket. There is also a lip around the top of the pot that prevents you from draining all of the water out of the pot after cleaning it. Of course it makes good coffee as will almost any percolator. I purchased a Rapid Brew brand pot for my Boy Scout troop and would recommend it over a Copco pot. Simple not always better April 23, 2011 I have long relished the flavor of percolated coffee. Thought I would replace my automatic maker with a percolator. 'Disappointed' best describes my purchase so far, but I am hoping results will improve. I am still in the 'seasoning' phase of ownership, and likely ingesting metallic particulates from the pot. It may very well get better, but so far, the coffee is OFF. Not scorched, bitter, or horrible, etc, just 'off'. If i had to purchase another, I would get a plug-in percolator. The stove top takes too long, probably because this pot does not have a good heat-conducting, copper bottom like our Copco tea kettle has. Over-priced at $30 / $12 is more appropriate for what you get. Apparently, the nostalgia of percolating coffee pots adds to the price. | 3% Messy May 27, 2016 These filters work but the ones that wrap completely around the coffee grounds work much better and are worth the extra cost. These tend to leave a mess and more required clean up. Don't drain well April 3, 2016 Melitta coffee filters, After acquiring a percolater for brewing daily coffee, I quickly realized that I needed to have filters to keep the coffee grounds from getting into the coffee. These fit perfectly, and are convenient and are priced decently. So I purchased these with expectations that they would do the job. While they may help to keep some grounds out, vs not having any filter, they I still end up with grounds in the coffee, and a mess of grounds all over the filter. Thankfully the grounds do sink to the bottom of the coffee pot or cup.I think these are made too thick, not letting the coffee run through very well. I've attempted making a smaller pot with less water, and added less coffee grounds. Still the problem remains, where the basket gets too full, and not draining well. I've had a hard time deciding on how to rate these. While they may be helpful, they still aren't doing their job well. I honestly have better luck tearing up and using simple paper towels. These filters do not fit the KRUPS KM4689 Moka Brewer ... October 27, 2015 These filters do not fit the KRUPS KM4689 Moka Brewer Filter Coffee Maker correctly. They are designed for stove top brewing. However, they help emptying the ground coffee out of the filter after brewing. | 2% |
One Star Reviews: | 9% don't waste money March 9, 2017 Worst product ever, it got rust on it after first wash. I am returning it. PIECE OF JUNK April 30, 2016 returned the first pot..top rubber piece on the cover leaked,,gave another chance asked for new pot..now handle is loose cant return 30 days gone by..basket doesn't drain correctly..piece of junk..now I know why I always purchased FABERWARE Percolators. I bought one of these pots and the handle came ... January 19, 2016 I bought one of these pots and the handle came off. I kept having to screw it back on and the screw eventually was stripped. I bought a second pot and the same thing happened. I called the company and showed them the problem and they never responded. This product is poorly made. Lid does not fit. The top of the basket ... September 27, 2015 Lid does not fit. The top of the basket is too big and the top does not close correctly and spills hot coffee on you when you pour it. Makes very weak coffee, poor quality stainless steel January 24, 2014 UPDATE 11/7/2016I ordered another one of these and returned it, and am changing my 5 star review to one star. The new one drains very slow, making very weak coffee. On both the spreader and the basket, the slots are too small. I held both spreaders under the faucet - the old one drained as fast as the water filled it, but the new one filled up and drained very slow. The slots are also noticeably smaller on the new one. I'm going back to my Farberware, as I now think that's the best percolator. I ran a Finish automatic dishwashing capsule through my Farberware and with a little soaking of the basket and spreader, and then a little scrubbing, it came out like new. I did the same with the Copco which was black at parts, and it did not come clean. So this is the biggest advantage to the Farberware - the quality of the stainless steel is superior to the Copco.Copco and Farberware were close, but these are the differences, some of them minor:1. For a half pot, Farberware does not pump well - you have to keep the heat very high and it still doesn't pump as much as a full pot. Copco does a half pot just as good as a full pot.2. Copco has a one-piece pot. Farberware has a two-piece pot. By two-piece I mean the bottom part of the pot is welded to the rest of the pot. This means there is a seam on the inside at the bottom where debris builds up. I ran a toothpick in the seam once and it pulled out a lot of debris. Copco has no seam.3. With Copco, the spring is welded to the pump stem. It is not with the Farberware and falls off when cleaning. The Rapid Brew is the worst, which I returned because it overflowed all over the stove. This is because the spreader fits around the rim of the pot and there is nowhere for the coffee to go if it fills up too fast. The spreader on Copco and Farberware is inside the pot so any overflow returns to the pot. | 6% Stupid Purchase. October 26, 2017 Stupid to buy these filters when the standard coffee filters work better. Love our coffee pot August 21, 2017 Love our coffee pot, however this items is not do anything to reduce the amount of ground in our coffee do not bother August 6, 2017 not that great. buy a number 2 cone filter and put a small tear in the bottom. works better horrid July 14, 2017 thin and chinsy i could even bother returning it i threw them out - the second they touched the pot it disintegrated Suggested by Amazon April 3, 2017 These filters were paired with the Presto percolator I ordered. Not sure what they are filtering, but I'm getting a lot of grounds in my coffee. | 7% Broke as I tried to screw it on. I ... August 17, 2017 Broke as I tried to screw it on. I should have just flushed 10 bucks down the toilet! Thanks for nothing!!! :( May 26, 2017 This was not as universal as it seemed, it didn't for our farberwear Yosemite 8 cup percolator Did not receive. January 30, 2017 Did not receive. I got the card the glass top was supposed to be attached to but not the top itself. |
