We did our homework before purchasing this for our small medical office. We fax a ton of stuff and receive a ton of faxes. It has been operational for a few weeks and is working great. A major improvement over our last one. Handles lots of work, quiet, feeds well.

It is very good and sends good fax documents to the senders.

I have just purchased my second one of these, after owning an identical model for the last six years. The old machine is still functioning, but is clearly getting ready to retire soon. I was delighted to see that this model is still being made by Brother, and did not hesitate to purchase another.

The old machine has printed literally thousands upon thousands (very possibly hundreds of thousands) of great quality pages, being used everyday in a busy office environment. The quality of print is very consistent. It has also been used extensively as a fax machine, with zero problems. The punishment that this machine can take is quite amazing, and I love the way that it hooks up easily to my PC via USB.

I absolutely would not hesitate to recommend this product. Very easily five stars.

I went online to search for a great laser printer fax and after hours of reading reviews and trying to find something that was a workhorse at a good price, the Brother is what I chose. My PIXMA 4 in 1 suddenly "STB" and I was pressed to do my homework and find something new immediately. If you're looking to find a new printer/fax, let me save you some time and money ... search no more. This is the best! I am so happy with my purchase and the ability to purchase from Amazon at a great price. I also have a big Toshiba super-size copier in the office and you know what ... I think that I like this one better. We set it up easily and networked it for all the office computers "semi-easily" and have been good to go ever since.

Works great. I much prefer buying/using rolls of old-style thermal paper for this fax than reams of paper and, worst of all, overpriced ink cartridges for the newer kinds of fax machines.

One of the few 1980s type fax machines still available ie with thermal fax rolls and no toner to worry about.Small size and no plain paper sitting outside the machine making the look of the machine unobtrusive.Minor criticism: the caller ID window too small and doesn't keep a list of missed calls. I bought a cheap separatecaller ID to overcome this. No need for an answering machine as missed calls are listed.

Fax machine works great.You don't need a extra line or a other phone number.Machine has a mode that is fax/phone.Only one thing you can not use regular paper.The paper has to be purchase from Brother Company. Two rolls cost about $25.30.With that being said it is still worth it. If you are like me that receive more faxes than sends them it is worth buying.

I loved my brother fax machine until last Friday. Then it quit working. I called brother, and because it is 1 1/2 years old it is out of warranty. They can't help me. Bummed that it only lasted that long, but while it worked it was the best machine I've had.

The fax machine arrived very quickly, packed well from this supplier. I was replacing the same model fax so I was able to use the cables and toner from the old machine. This one didn't work so well for the first week but once we'd used it for a few days it's been fine. I think it just needed to be used with a newer drum and toner. No problems at all since the first week.

I use this for my business. It has works well for faxes, though the copier is a feed-through, and this limits the kind of copies you can make.

These are nice fax machines for small to medium businesses. We have about 15 employees that use it heavily every day. We usually have to replace them every 3 years. We are required to run OEM drums and toner and they are expensive! If your not required to run OEM check the web for some slick deals on discounted generic or remanufactured ones instead.

I've installed several of these machines at clients (office size from 5-50 people). The machine is solid, performance is good (of course you're limited to fax speeds for send/receive), and they haven't given us any trouble.

Until the paperless office becomes a reality and faxing still exists, this machine will aptly perform.

I blew it. I wanted an ans/fax, but misread the description. However if I was ordering just a phone/fax this machine would fit the bill.

This product is an excelent one very economicaland easy to use.Only drawback is if you need to store fax recieved for long time you would have to photocopy on regular plain paper.The 275 last for years and outlasts many of the more modern plain paper fax maCHINES.COSTS A LITTLE MORE BUT IT IS WORTH IT ,WOULDNT TRADE MY BROTHER275 FOR ANYTHING.

its a good fax and copy print machine. But it has already had issues with the machine thinks the front door is open when it isn't and ceases to print. Found a work around for it pretty easily. But still.

Paper sticking ( jams)

Lasted 4 years but now it scans a 1" wide black stripe down the middle of the page when sending faxes. Probably only sent about 200 faxes with it. Feel it should last longer. Great machine while it lasted.

We were replacing an old fax machine that had worn out. I wanted something that I could pre-scan a lot of pages then set a time to send the fax. The previous machine I had did this seamlessly. You can do the same with this machine, but it requires several menu options you use each and every time. I created a cheat sheet so you could do what I want. This machine has a lot of options, but unless you have the owners manual, I'd say it's not real user friendly.

We are still having trouble receiving fax from some of our client's. Brother can't or won't help us. They tell us it is our phone Verizon and Verizon tell us it is a Brother problem but, it is my problem because my client's still can not reach me with their orders.
We replaced a Brother fax machine with this one and we should not be having any problems.

very basic and simple machine.works very well, no issues.Too expensive . Would recommend at around $50 price tab,not $90

This fax machine is for anyone who likes to use thermal paper for their faxing. For me, the paper is too thin, and I want paper for my documents that is much sturdier, as in bond paper. You can almost see through the thermal paper. When I bought the machine, I didn't realize what was meant by "thermal" paper, but now I know.

Was easy to hook up to my phone but I was careless when reading info on machine and would have preferred plain paper fax.

Excellent machine. Works great. HOWEVER! I BOUGHT THIS MACHINE NEW BECAUSE IT IS CHEAPER TO PURCHASE A NEW MACHINE THAN TO REPLACE THE OLD DRUM!!!!

Has trouble connecting. Not as good as my old HP.

I purchased a new machine. I received the machine put all together just to find out the brand new machine did not work at all. Then I called the manufacturer then they wanted to send me a refurbished machine to replace my new machine which I was very upset. I then complained then they said they would send a new one. I could not tell if it was a refurbished one but suspect it was one.

While I'm sure that it's a fine fax machine, the Brother IntelliFax-4100E does not connect to your computer. Buyer beware!

I learned the hard way with this machine that it's the cheap man who pays twice. I bought this fax based on price thinking one fax is as good as the next. Not so. In my opinion this is not a machine for business use because it can't be trusted to send more than 2 or 3 pages at a time. The automatic document feeder, which I've learned is really what distinguishes a home fax from a business one, is incapable of separating a stack of papers and just sends them through the machine in a jumble. The problem is that unless you've counted the pages, you'll get a report saying the fax went through just fine, when in fact it sent half of what you thought went through. Unless you stand there and watch the pages go through, you won't realize that it didn't sent the critical 30 page fax you wanted it to, but 24 of them. I'm going to buy a new machine based on the rating of the adf from this point on and hope I don't have a problem returning this one to Amazon

Does not have microphone for me to use with ,so that I must lift up the receiver every time I get a call.Very annoying!Compare to my previous unit a Panasonic Telephone that could speak without lifting the receiver and which lasted over 20years with out any problems.Very disappointed in this useless phone.

don't like the paper it uses.

It uses way to much paper to get it started and the paper is thin. it don't have an answering machine built in.

Very basic fax. No answering system, though you couldn't tell that from the description online. Very old school. Not for use other than occasional fax. Uses old technology of paper roll on thin almost tissue like paper. Okay enough for my purposes but I wouldn't recommend it nor would I buy it again.

Kinda pissed because after working with my Internet Provider for a month to fix the issue...the bottom line is...this product doesn't work over an IP phone line--even though they say it does. But, by the time I exhausted all my resources...it was too late (according to Amazon) to return product. Too bad...because I'm usually very happy w/ Amazon and their return policies. Not this one...it took some time to figure this out.

The fax machine broke down after light use for a few months. Save your money and buy something else

I turned on my Brother Intellifax just a few months after purchase and out came so much smoke from the rear. The display still came on after the "smoke episode" but it would not warm up and start anymore. It shut down and restarted every 3 seconds indefinitely. Now the US based customer service would not offer me the much needed solution seeing that I am resident in Nigeria and they in their words "do not ship internationally". 300 USD gone down the drain.

It doesn't work well. The machine intermittently gets stuck in sleep mode and will not come out. Called Brother service about it twice in the first three weeks of use, they are polite but completely inadequate. You can not disable sleep mode. I will never buy a another product from them again. One and done for me.

Apparently there is NO way to disable "Sleep Mode". You can set the timer to 99 minutes, but after that, you're back to round one again. It goes into sleep mode to save power, but they apparently have an issue with waking up. There is a generic answer found by searching the web, but once you set it the way they tell you, it still doesn't work. I miss faxes constantly. The only way to get the machine to work when it enters sleep mode, is to pull the power plug and reset it. Not much use if you are not available to do so upon receiving a fax.

It works well when it works, and the copier is a nice function, but overall, the sleep mode ruins it when it comes to sending and receiving faxes.

UPDATE 8.29.13

The sleep mode is the killer on this thing. I have discovered another issue with it. You have to go into maintenance mode and set the baud rate down to 9600 in order to get it to work on VOIP. Otherwise it will screw the packets all up and your faxes will fail. I have only used VOIP with it, and I have a LOT of trouble with it.

I have concluded that this fax machine is the biggest turd I have ever seen, and I have dumped my review all the way down to one single star. I would give it no stars if the option were available. I am lucky to get a fax to go out once in a hundred tries. I consistently get "Poor Line Condition" back on my report. It simply won't send anything much more than one page at a time. I am going to sell the damn thing and buy a scanner and send my faxes via a fax service. This Brother fax machine is ridiculous. I don't have time to stand over it for 4 hours just to get a page or two to go through.

Buy it at your own risk. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Didn't keep, don't like the roll of paper

I returned it. It used thermo paper, something from the dark ages.

I was not able to use my only telephone connection as there was no way to turn the fax on and off as I did on my old fax. I returned the machine to Amazon

Bought this the end of September and it is totally worthless now, 6 months later. Printing quality is horrible. Had a 90 day warranty so can't return it. Its a piece of junk- DONT BUY IT!!!

This is a cheesy machine. The very first fax we tried to send resulted in black pages sent to our receiver.Making a copy gave us the same results. Stay away from this fax!
