An everyday carry item that everybody should have
June 24, 2017
Absolutely love this survival kit it was very affordable and has a lot of good things in it if you ever plan on doing anything off the grid you need to have this with you it could save your life or even just like life easier.
Awesome Compact Survival Kit
March 14, 2017
This survival kit has everything you could ver want and more. The knife/whistle/flashlight on the top is so cool because it slides out of its mold on the top. The entire thing is really compact and fits perfectly in the glove box of my truck. I can't think of a single bad thing about this product.
I really love this little kit
January 8, 2017
I really love this little kit, its small enough not to take up too much room, but has everything you may need in a pinch. You can always add on but this fits nicely whether its the glove box, camping supplies or under the sink. Seems to be well constructed. For the price you can do much better.

Pocket sized, super convenient. I admit I was skeptical when I ordered, thinking the different items would be cheap and cheesy but I am please with the quality. Since it's for emergency, I hope I never have to find out how well it actually works placed in service but gives me peace of mind.
Great to have in an emergency
October 11, 2016
I bought this for my kids 72 hr emergency kit. She is 11 and needs tools that are easy and organized. We went over all the features, how to use the knife, read the booklet inside and everything else. It's small and lightweight. It's a great addition to her go bags we bought a second for my who is a teenager. I may end up getting one for myself.
the flashlight batteries died pretty quickly but I hardly ever used it
December 1, 2015
Just enough items inside to make an effective survival kit and not have it too cumbersome. Just so you know, the flashlight batteries died pretty quickly but I hardly ever used it, just to check if it was still functional. They should ship them uninstalled so they have some life in them. The knife was also pretty dull, sharpen it before hitting the trail.

Haven't actually had to use it in a survival sotuation, but the materials provided in the knife dont't seem to be cheap crappy stuff. Im amazed they can produce this product for the price it is.
Perfect add on to my hiking pack
September 18, 2016
I bought this survival knife to add to my hiking pack. I picked this one because of the accessories it can hold. They will all come in handy and be quite useful in a survival or emergency situation. The price wasn't outrageous and the blade on the knife is of good quality. I'd recommend this to any hiker or survival prepper.

but it seems like a great item
September 22, 2017
Haven't needed to use it yet, but it seems like a great item. Comes with a lot of stuff and is small enough to stow away in your backpack without weighing too much. I packed in my backpack for the Mighty 5 and forgot I even had when I unpacked at home.
Great survival kit for any backpacker or hunter!
September 21, 2017
This was the first survival kit that I've bought, so I can't compare it to others on the market, but it seems to be a well-put-together survival kit. The plastic compartment is made of durable material, although, I wouldn't count on it being watertight. The rubber gasket on the lid doesn't seem to seal against the base well enough to make it fully waterproof. Inside, it holds just about everything needed to survive a couple nights out in the woods if you get stranded or lost. With much success, I lit a fire with the sparker and tinder-quik cotton fire starters on the first spark! The knife is really neat; it has a built in high-intensity LED light, with a switch, pointed in the direction of the knife blade to help you see as you are cutting or carving at night, and it has an integrated whistle on the rear to alert a near-by rescuer of your approximate position. In the bottom portion of the container, there's some fishing tackle, small diameter cord, and steel line that can be used for fishing, traps, snares, and shelters. The top portion contains literature on wilderness survival techniques, a large signal mirror, and how-to guide for the kit. I use the signal mirror to see when I'm putting my contacts in my eyes and to put on camoflauge face paint for hunting. This is a great compact survival kit for any backpacker!
quite good beyond the flashlight.
August 29, 2017
it was an awesome tool and i found the pieces and parts all in perfect condition i bought it for my survival bagafter looking through it it seems to be good for much more than that, i played around with it for a while and all of the parts were extra usefull including the flashlight which, while a bit spotty on brightness worked quite well

The ideal Pocket Survival Kit
June 12, 2015
Great little piece of personal Survival Kit.Does leak a little but doesn't take away it's effectiveness. However on looking to use the Signalling mirror, instructions are vague in regard as to removal of the black striping across the mirror before use! needs qualifying urgently! There is still a fair bit of room to add or personalize this kit which is good!Knife and torch combo good idea and knife holds it's edge very well!Don't know whether Survival instruction sheet is weatherproof? but needs to be!Otherwise a good pocket size survival kit
Compact Emergency Survival Kit
February 5, 2014
I like this product from AMK it covers almost all of your survival needs in this little box. It comes with a Knife embedded with an emergency whistle and led flashlight, signal mirror built into the top of the box, removable compass, Fire Lite firestarter, TinderQuik fiestarting tinder, 150lb-test braided nylon cord, mil-spec stainless steel wire, Buck Tilton’s survival instructions and an emergency sewing and fishing kit. You can also add some items you feel are necessary. Now this is not the end all be all survival kit but it's better to have it than be without it. If you need something small to put in a backpack or glove box in the car car this is it. Buy it.

is a good weight, and I'm happy with it
December 16, 2015
The item is exactly as promised. It has all the pieces, is a good weight, and I'm happy with it. The only thing against it is the box holding the knife. It was a plain white box with no images and no information about all the features. I had to look online and on youtube to find a complete listing. Other than that, the knife is great and I'm glad I bought it.
Nice knife set
April 11, 2015
For one of my first knife purchases I am pleased! It seems like it will be a good knife to add to a Get Home Safe bag, but I am not sure how much cutting you can do with it. It also rattles a little bit when walking in the plastic sheath. The extras are pretty neat, I just don't know how often, if ever I'll use them but they are nice to have incase!
Happy with it overall!
March 7, 2015
Came early, what I expected for the price. Made sturdier than expected though. Buddy of mine is very picky on his products and he was impressed with the quality of the handle when I showed him (which is actually also metal, not cheap plastic). Came with items and branding as pictured. I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't cord attached to the handle/sheath, but rather essentially what was nylon shoelaces, two total, and they were different lengths.Tested a few items:Knife came roughly sharp, tested its sharpening feel on the integrated whetstone. Whetstone works well, after a bit of time was able to put a serviceable edge on the blade. Not your first choice to sharpen, but will get you a sharp enough blade to work in the field if needed. Steel seems a bit soft, not sure how well it will hold the edge. Saw back of the knife was probably machined, had a nice rough edge and worked well in test for what it is.Wire cutter thing integrated with the handle worked well enough on a few light/medium duty tests. Don't think you'd get through any chain link fences in a hurry though.Harpoon had a nice tip, came with fine nylon cord to tie it or other items off. I'd rather tie off the harpoon with 550 cord personally (I replaced the shoelaces with 550 cord).Wire saw looked and felt cheap, which it probably is. Only about 12" long. I will say this though, when tested I found it surprisingly sturdy, and it actually worked after you got it going. Not a preferred option, but better than nothing.Replaced the band aids, added extra cotton/tinder, added sewing needles x3 and Kevlar thread inside of the fishing packet which I haven't tested. Looks like it's probably 10lb test though. Didn't open the scalpel, but relatively sure it's a typical scalpel blade. Could probably mount it in a stick for a makeshift handle when tied off with the fine cord accompanying the harpoon.Signal mirror was in serious need of polishing, came very rough. Once I put some work into it it's serviceable though.Compass actually worked (was surprised), but it's still just a button compass. Not liquid filled so it can get off track, but easy enough to shake back in place.Striker rod threw off decent sparks, but pretty small. Not sure how many strikes you'll get off of it, but nice to have as a 3rd/4th backup.Whistle was small but actually really, really freaking loud. Probably louder than a typical smoke alarm. Was able to hear it when tested from 100m near midday city traffic. Didnt want to walk farther... :) Wish it wasn't black, would be impossible to find if dropped at night. Has a lanyard hole though, so if I ever needed it in a situation I'd probably pull it out and tie it off onto something to avoid losing it.Pencil is decidedly for short-term use. Don't push too hard on the lead.Knocked off a star for the shoelaces, and for packaging. Came basically thrown and taped in a bag, in another bag, in an envelope. No instructions to any of it.Oh, I'm a lefty, and it sits in the case either way. So that's cool.
Great starter knife.
December 26, 2013
great start to a bug out bag. The knife is, for the price pretty decent! I mean, in the event of a zombie apocalypse this is pointy enough to do the job.
Survival Kit Knife - Good Buy
July 24, 2012
Rothco Deluxe Adventure Survival Kit Knife: Just opened my knife kit arriving one day early! All components were present and working. Knife Kit is a good starter for a young camper. Learning to use the components is good safety training and knife handling. It needs supervision. Knife - blade wants sharpening and the stone is a bit coarse, but it works. Sheath is OK but it does not hold the knife tightly - can be fixed. The hollow handle holds part of the survival elements. Compass is accurate. Behind the knife a bracket holds more gear and it is good. Both the handle tube and the sheath gear bracket could be attached to more a sophisticated knife later on. Designing a sheath attachment would be a good project for the growing back packer. Certainly the hollow handled knife is not suitable for batoning, however it will do the necessary if used with care.We will give it a try up north next month with the kid. Experience to be given then. This is a great quality buy from Amazon. Amazon carries a good range of camping and back pack gear. stonenstrop
It's a toy. But it's such an awesome toy!
January 8, 2012
I would never stake my life on this knife. It's made of cheap Taiwan stainless steel, the blade is cemented into the hollow handle, and the sheath is big, clunky and doesn't hold the knife all that securely. But I didn't buy it for survival. I bought it because it looked like a very cool toy. And it is. I am very pleased with it.The blade is adequate for the kind of cutting you'll do on a weekend camping trip - though don't count on using the saw on the back edge to actually saw through anything. It was fairly sharp when I got it and got a lot sharper without too much work. The size, shape and weight of the blade make for good brush clearing, whittling, rudimentary camp cooking, etc. (On serious camping trips I always pack my Forschner Fibrox 8 in an ultra-secure sheath as part of my cooking gear.)What makes this totally cool are the accessories, some of which ride in the hollow handle, some of which ride in a removable metal sleeve that nests inside the sheath -- and which doubles as a signaling mirror. They include a wire saw with insertable handles that actually WILL cut a decent size piece of firewood, for example, and a "harpoon" and line meant for, I dunno, lashing to a stick and stabbing wild pigs a la Rambo, I guess.More practical items include band-aids, needle and thread, safety pins, fishing hooks and enough line to make a reasonable effort to land a fish, and a genuine-article scalpel blade that's sterilized and sealed in a foil pouch. There's also a very serviceable wire cutter that you work by inserting the hole in the knife blade through a metal peg on the sheath and rotating the knife. The compass in the screw-top of the handle works, but it's not liquid filled, so it's very jiggly. As I said, you would want a different compass if the bearing meant your life. But it's more than adequate for teaching a kid how to use a compass. This would have been my dream knife when I was 12 (before I learned about Spyderco and Benchmade). I cannot imagine any child not being delighted with this as a first sheath knife. As it is, I like having it in my truck. It serves as a light duty knife, I won't cry if I lose it or break it, and it appeals to the gadget geek in me that's still 12. I mean, you never know when you'll need a signaling mirror, right?

The box is cool tho.
July 30, 2017
I bought this on accident somehow. So I put it in my glove box. A few months later I gave that truck away and I took this with me when I noticed the flashlight stopped working. And the Flint in the firestarter turned to green dust and fell out when I tried to spark it. I don't know if I'll ever need anything in this kit but those would of been the two things in this kit I'd be most likely to use. The box is cool tho.

May 24, 2016
There was no signal mirror but everything else was there. Knife is not very sharp. But I have not had a chance to try putting an edge on it yet. Everything does not fit in the handle, but what doesn't fit in the handle, fits in the sheath .
nothing super about the knife but it does work

this is your most basic survival knife. nothing super about the knife but it does work. steel is average and the manufacturing is average
Like a few other people, missing the slingshot
July 28, 2014
Like a few others have mentioned, there was no rubber Slingshot in the box, or the mounting brackets for it. luckily I didn't buy it for the slingshot or I would return it. It comes with enough other stuff to still make it a good buy for the money. The blade was not all that sharp when received, but since it comes with a sharpening stone that was easy enough to fix. It will serve its purpose for me- just an emergency knife to keep in an emergency bag that I hope I will never need to use.
ZERO blade durability
May 9, 2014
Blade was very visually appealing and tactile...HOWEVER, I dropped the blade once and it snapped in half thus revealing the actual metal used (my assumption based in zero knowledge of how to determine metal types) is that it was condensed aluminum with a shiny/chrome finish coat. That being said, the sheathe and all other accessories are worth the price alone. SUMMARY: Knife blade < 5 actual survival scenario uses; Sheathe: I would pay the same price due to storage and sharpstone; Extranious utilities/storage handle: 5***** (5 star) because I still use the sheath...with a better knife
Nice Knife
December 3, 2012
First off, the knife blade isn't as sharp as I would have expected. That being said, the kit is well put together and the sheath is pretty sturdy. I'd recommend this to a hiker or camper, but not a survivalist. The cutting wire is short and difficult to handle. The knife itself isn't balanced, but may make for a good back-up blade. The blade's wire cutting hole can only line up to sheath bolt with the blunt side of the knife pointing to the cutting notch. This is due to the poor placement of a raised screw near the head of the sheath. Other than that, I'd take it on a camping trip, but I wouldn't tell anyone that this is a "Deluxe" kit knife.
Everything one needs - for an emergancy
November 19, 2012
The knife had everything it advertised and will be quite helpful with a bug-out bag or in an emergency pack in a car. What kept me from rating the knife kit higher was the lack of ruggedness any of the implements displayed, especially the knife itself. These tools would work for a time, but I would not want to try to make them last for anymore than a few days to a week. Definitely not something I would use on a daily basis or even a week out camping. So while it is definitely useful for a lightweight emergency kit, it is not something I would carry into the bush if I had other options.

Would love to give this a better score, but the rubber seal on the light switch has already detached. Great idea though, a great pocket kit. Just needs better workmanship
Could be better
April 28, 2014
I bought this kit as a travel kit and supplement to my survival bag. The carry case is solid and compact. However the compass is weak and requires a very level and still surface. I compared it to another compass and it tended to give a wrong bearing unless it was perfectly aligned and given a minute or two to adjust. The built in light to the knife worked but was low power. Good to illuminate the object your a cutting but not much more. The safety whistle works but is a little fussy about lip/mouth placement to get a loud sound.

If Your Are Serious, Look Elsewhere
December 30, 2016
The knife has its flaws. The metal is not well sharpened and will definitely need care upon arrival. The handle does not have a good grip and would need cord for better grip. The compass is flimsy and the accessory assembly is difficult to pull out and put back in. The knife kit did not come with all of the shown and described items. Also the first aid and other small parts come stuffed in a tiny waterproof tube inside the handle of the knife. Bring your own first aid kit with you. The price definitely reflects the quality.
It is what it is!
May 1, 2016
Heavy and basically junk. It's ok just not a finished product. Blade does not fit tightly in sheath. I could not get fishing and spear add on out of compartment until I used meddle nose pliers. The compass is almost the same one my son has built into is robot toy. Garbage!Yet it was inexpensive so my expectations were low and if zombies attack it will work.
Piece of JUNK
February 21, 2014
Let me start off from the outside in. The sheath is terrible. It doesn't hold the knife in place, has those extra nylon flaps flapping in the breeze unable to latch on to just about anything. The strings hanging from the sheath are pointless and there are way too many extraneous parts of it. Inside of the sheath you have to completely take off the nylon straps (which is a pain) to get to the inside things (harpoon, hooks, fishing line, etc.). Inside the handle of the knife there is a tube holding the softer things like the band aids and morse code. The knife itself came sent not sharpened, goober stuff all over it, and prints from who knows what all over its ugly shiny material. Great idea but terrible job putting it together. I do not recommend this whatsoever.
Dull - Dull - Dull !!!!

This knife was very hard to sharpen !!! As advertised has everything is in the handle Being a two piece steel knife it probably will break doing any serious chopping the little sharpening stone is useless Needs an edge first I have an electric knife sharpener a spent a good half an hour to put an edge on it then used a diamond rod and still couldn't get it very sharp Nice for stabbing thats about it Two piece knifes fall apart I had to order a better survival knife that is one piece I wouldn't trust this one

I received mine a couple of days ago and was surprised at the quality of this kit. I have bought a ton of other survival kits in the past and was almost always satisfied with them even after doing research on them. I don't know if the battery on top of the knife died that powers the flashlight but the LED light was super dim. Dim as in, I tried using in in total darkness and couldn't see anything, not even the knife. The compass had a lot of air bubbles in it and it doesn't even give a correct reading. I tried holding it in my hand, putting it on level surfaces and still it wouldn't give a correct reading. I would move the compass about 5 inches to the left or right and the directional arrows would turn randomly 180degrees even though I didn't rotate it or anything. The clasp that closes the kit together snapped off the first day. Also, the run channels that make the kit waterproof aren't fully aligned because there are gaps when I would close the kit before the main clasp broke off. I am not happy with this profuct. Maybe I got a defective one (a lemon) but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone and will not buy it in the future.

Cheap Toy Knife
December 8, 2015
This survival knife is dull and the blade does not go all the way through the handle. This creates a point of weakness. This is more a toy that you give to your teenage soon, rather than a serious survival tool.
No instructions no guide flimsy
May 21, 2014
I think this looks like a good size knife, but on further inspection the handle is hollow plastic. The blade would snap off pretty easily. Also they have included many things inside the knife but no instructions or details on what anything is or how to use it. My dad is an avid outdoorsman and has no clue what some of the pieces are for. I think this would not be much if any help in a survival situation. Get the bear grylls knife!
Deceitful advertising
February 16, 2012
I have bought this product and have remained disappointed for several reasons: 1.-The compass was broken2 .-The cleaver had a crack in the low part3.-The cleaver did not have the writing of the brand (since it appears in the photo)4.-it did not bring several of the elements of survival that appear in the photo. Example: The turnstile, the rope that is in the top of the knife, between others. 5.-He was lacking essential pieces that are those who make the product attractive.Definitively, it is a deceitful advertising, they offer a thing and send other one. I am an assiduous buyer of Amazon and it is the first time that I feel DEFRAUDED, because it is this product DEFRAUDS one. I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT, IT IS A LOSS OF MONEY of fact seems that what they me sent is a very bad imitation of what is the original knife and of incomplete step and in poor condition. It was a TERRIBLE purchase.
