Allows safe handling of some difficult cuts. Heavy base provides good stability.
Easy

Took a project we were dreading and turned it into a beautiful piece of furniture, Amazing how easy and perfect things turn out when you use the right tools. We may not get alot of use from this tool, but when we do use it things will be better. And I have been looking at a bunch of new projects that I would not have considered before. Nice addition to our workshop!
Solid jig, works with SawStop
March 17, 2013
Heavy jig, solid for making tenons. One of the features I like about this jig is that it has two settings for the mitre bar, allowing the jig to be shifted to work for either left or right tilting saws. After assembly, I had measured the angles to ensure that the unit was 90 degrees to both the table top and that back rest. Both were dead on. I have only used the jig several times but am impressed with the ease and safety in making tenons. Good buy.

It is all that I expected. Having read posted reviews before purchasing helped set my expectations. Minor fit problems when attatching parts but this was easily corrected. Feels solid and rides nicely in the miter gauge slot. Only used it a couple of times so far but worked great. Made me feel a whole lot safer when running the stock through the saw. If nothing else making saw use safer is worth 5 stars.
Works as advertised

I bought this tool because it was a Top Tool in a Wood Magazine review and I have not been disappointed. This was my first project with mortis and tenon joints and this jig made them easy. I would buy it again.Assembly and set up are not trivial, however. The unpainted machined surfaces come coated with a preservative. The manual says to remove it with a rag moistened with kerosene. There is no way that would work. I cleaned it outside where I could flood it with kerosene and then wipe it off. The preservative is everywhere; the base comes partially assembled, but I had to disassemble it to get at all the preservative.A couple of other reviews say that the jig did not fit their saw; one talks about the washers on the miter bar. The miter bar comes with washers mounted on the ends of the miter bar to fit "T" slot miter slots. The manual says to remove these washers if your saw does not have a "T" slot. My saw has a "T" slot, but the jig still would not fit. The space between the washer and the miter bar is too small to fit so I removed the washers (no grinding involved as mentioned in the other review, just a screw through each washer). It should be possible to shim the washers to fit but I did not bother. The miter bar is adjusted to fit your slot by turning three set screws. These screws have a spot of thread lock on them so they do not move after adjustment, but this also makes them hard to adjust. Two of the three did turn although they were tight. The third would not hardly move. The end of the included hex key wrench rounded before it would turn. I ground the wrench flat on the end and finally got the screw to move. Other reviews talk about poor quality screws; I did not see that; the wrench rounded over before the hex socket in the screw failed. The backstop is hard to adjust to a right angle with the table. Setting it is easy, but tightening the lock knob (lever) causes it to move.Using the jig is a breeze. The continuously adjustable clamp arm makes it easy to tightly clamp just about any size stock. The fine adjustment of the cut location is really fine, a full turn for 1/16" movement, however, there is a lot of backlash in this adjustment, probably 1/2 turn.I like the position of the two handles, fore and aft; they seem perfectly positioned to make the cut.One other review talked about problems after 50-60 tenons; I have only made 12, so something may go wrong later. So far I am satisfied.
Delta 34-184 tenoning jig
March 18, 2012
I recently purchased a new Delta Unisaw and wanted a tenoning jig to go with the table saw. I was unable to find a Delta jig in the UK but I was able to purchase one through Amazon.com.The postage was a bit expensive but it did have to come from the USA to the UK.The tenoning jig is very resonably priced and is a high quality jig. The first tenons I made using the jig are great and I am pleased I purchased this jig. So far I can find no fault with this jig and would recommend it.
Delta 34-184 Deluxe Tenoning Jig
December 8, 2002
I bought this jig to replace a homemade jig that I have been using. Out of the box the tool looked to be top quality. During assembly and setup I encoutered a couple of problems. First, during conversion to a left tilting arbor I found that the metric "Button Head Screws" that attach the miter guide to the base were made of soft inferior quality metal. I had to cut the screws out and replace with quality screws. Second, the rear adjustment for eliminating side-to-side play (slop) in the miter guide would not eliminate the side to side movement in the miter guide. This adjustment device also had to abe replaced. On the bright side, the jig works beautifully for cutting accurate tenons.Bobby ParrisEngineer turned Woodworker

Good, but not great
August 8, 2014
This jig has a number of good points. Packaging provided good protection, base, clamping mechanism, and arm are heavy, and well-designed. The micro adjust works very well by just releasing one locking handle very small adjustments are possible. I didn't have a problem cleaning the protective oil from the product and didn't see any of the burrs mentioned in past reviews. Anyone that buys this product should expect to spend time calibrating the side and back plumb and parallel skew adjustments. The problem that made me reduce the rating is the miter bar. The miter bar supplied by Jet does not have any adjustment mechanism and there was ~.006" of play in my PM 2000 miter slot which allowed quite a lot of movement. To solve this problem, I replaced the miter bar with an Incra miter slider. I marked holes on the Incra using a punch based on holes in the Jet miter bar, drilled 1/4" holes for bolts that mount the bar to the jig body, and then drilled a centered 3/8" hole in the 1/4" hole to countersink the head of the bolt. The Incra bar is way too long for this jig, so I cut off the excess length just above the second set of miter adjustment screws.
Good tool for making large numbers of tenons
July 31, 2014
works extremely well but the instructions leave a lot to be desired. When cutting a centered tenon there is no instruction as to how to get rid of the material you are removing. Does one use the table saw or a hand saw? The both work but which is the recommended method.
Veery Good but a Few Issues
January 27, 2013
I was using a good shop made jig that straddled the saw fence but one careless moment allowed a kickback that broke some bones in my left hand. I decided to invest in a heavy duty jig with t-slot hold down. Jet was the clear choice and the modern design features were a plus. However, I was concerned about the manufacturing defects reported here and elsewhere. I opined that with Amazon's volume, old items would not be in stock and Jet may have gotten their Chinese manufacturing act together by this time. Amazon's price was about $50 higher than elsewhere (unusual for them) and they are now collecting CA sales tax- shame on their gutless execs. I stayed with them because of good customer service and return policies and offset the price via a credit card promotion. The jig arrived ahead of schedule, was well packaged and preserved in oil which cleaned up easily with mineral spirits (no sign of the old cosmoline). Assembly and alignment were straightforward and the instruction manual was clear. Base was milled flat with no wobble. The vernier adjust for the base was a little stiff but I prefer that vs. too loose. The issues that merited a 1 star knockdown were: 1)Some minor side play of the miter bar in the slot. No adjustment screws so I plan to drill and tap for a couple of nylon set screws. 2)Some vertical play in the t-slot which allows the jig to tip a little fairly easily due to the cantilevered weight. Shimming the washer screw pulled the washer tight against the bar and eliminated most of the play but the washer can't rotate now- a minimal problem. 3)For my miter slot spacing, the safety set screw which stops the base from sliding into the blade was too short and I had to settle for 1/16" clearance in order to have enough threads for the jam nut. In turn, the pointer for the rough setting scale would not get below 1/8"- a minor problem. 4)My saw is left tilt and I need to reverse the jig to make tapered end cuts beyond the tilt capability of the jig. Since my miter slots are equidistant from the blade, this is easy but it puts the t-slot hold down washer to the rear- a no-no. The miter bar can be reversed but I plan to install a second t-washer. Also, the vertical right angle workpiece fence is now to the front, another safety no-no. There are 4 holes in the vertical face of the jig for a sacrificial piece and 2 of these can be used for an auxiliary fence. The operator handles can be repositioned easily. All in all, this is a worthy jig and I will feel good about its safety. The adjustment and tilt features are a definite plus. However, if Amazon continues to stay non price competitive, it is worth checking out other suppliers, provided they are not stuck with the old inventory that had manufacturing defects.
Good tool, but...

I bought this Jig to replace the Jig I had made of MDF from some plans I bought off the Net some years ago. I watched a video on YouTube demonstrating this Jig and was so impressed I immediately ordered one. After receiving and assembling my Jig I was startled to discover that the Miter Guide on the Jig did not fit into the slot of my "Ridgid 2412 Table Saw" even thought it has a 3/4" slot. I ended up having to sand down the sides of the guide on my "Bench Belt Sander"; it then fit very nicely and snug with no play and smooth running. The other discovery was that when the Jig's Fence was zeroed-up to the saw blade the scale-pointer was not able to be set to zero, which meant I had to unstick and relocate the scale to be able to set the pointer to zero, this also caused the Jig to be restricted in its range of travel when applied to the tenon cuts. The other minor concerns were that the machined parts of the Jig were very sharp which prevented the smooth sliding of the fence for adjustment; I had to use my dremel and grind a relief on the edges which helped nicely. What disappointed me was that in the video the demonstrator made the Jig look so perfect, everything moved so easily and smooth. Not so when assembled out of the box, and even after that making initial adjustments to start a project will not be as easy as he made it look. It appears the Jig is made specifically for the Jet JTAS-10XL, 66 and 64A and Powermatic Saws and no lee-way is given for other saw brands that may have their guide slots further away from the saw blade, and this is where the restrictions in movement is created. Because of these concerns I did not give it 5 stars, but it is very cleanly machined and heavy for stability.

My first attempt to use the Delta 34-184 tenoning jig, after I had cleaned all the preservative off and assembled it, were less then awe-inspiring. While not complicated this jig has a slight learning curve and every time I use it, the results get more predictable and more accurate. Previously, I cut all tenons either by hand or using the bandsaw or the dado blade on my table saw. But with a little practice, I think this jig will be the go to method for tenons, as well as lap and bridal joints. If you use a lot of mortise and tenon joints, as I do, then this jig is well worth your time and money.
Great tool, be prepared to tune it.

As most will attest, the tool comes set for a right tilt saw. This seems strange since most saws are now left tilt. This operation requires you to remove the guide and adjuster and relocate the guide to another set of pre-drilled holes. When I re-assembled the tool, I could not square it to the table. The holes were drilled out of allignment in the base! It is beyond me how that happens. If the tool is built using a CNC machine, it should be impossible. Delta must be using low skilled laborers to manually drill the holes, that's the only way it could happen. (What was the quality inspector doing when this mistake went by.) So, off to my drill press to open up the hole. What's up with the paint? Even after I got the packing grease off, the paint was not the same color. Even on the same part. Minor gripe, but it goes towards quality.Operation: The design is excellent. Having two handles on the tool promotes safe operation. The clamp bar allows adjustment front to back so clamping pressure can be placed exactly where you want it. Use an accurate square when setting up your cuts just to be sure.I believe this tool is the best in class, but the fit and finish could be better. I own several Delta tools - DJ-20 jointer, variable speed grinder, protable bench jointer, 12 1/2" portable planer. I hope Delta gets their act together and focuses on quality. They need to get back to their former glory.
Great tenons the fist time.

This machine works as advertised. It cuts clean concise tenons that are 100% repeatable. It is massive and just plows the material through the saw blade.Set up took a while but that was me being overly careful. Great tool. This is the better of the two you can get from Delta. My review of the other jig was meant to be for this one. The other is lower priced but not nearly as accurate as this one.Sorry for the mix up!

Would have expected better quality from WMH, but no buyer's remorse at the deeply discounted price I paid from Amazon (just a fuzz more than the Delta). No adjustments for miter slot irregularities (ball pein to the rescue). No fine adjustments on the angles....grrr. The industry will need to redesign this tool for fine adjustments before cnc is in every woodworker's shop.

Well made, but some minor problems, should have made my own.
December 11, 2016
So, this thing is built like a tank, that's at least one positive. Some minor problems though. First, the directions on how to align this thing are messed up. Part of the directions about aligning the backing plate to your blade (making it parallel to the blade) are wrong! Hard to explain without going into too much detail, but when you push the backing plate next to your blade to check alignment you CANNOT reach the adjustment screws that are used to adjust the parallel alignment. The directions do not indicate that, instead, you will need to put a straight edge or something like a level between the backer and your blade and THEN you will be able to reach the alignment screws. Second, the little red distance indicator clearly indicates that this might not have been made in the U.S. the threads on the set screw for the indicator are too low inside the set screw hole. Making it impossible for it to get any grip at all when the indicator is in the hole. Some doofus at the factory solved this problem by inserting the set screw into the hole sideways and jamming it in there (not using the threads). Tried to flatten the end of the indicator that goes into the hole, but I would have to make it paper thing to get the set screw to grab threads. Pretty much threw away the indicator - useless. So, all this being said.....here's the conclusion....made like a tank, works well once you get it set up, but MAKE YOUR OWN! Don't use the alignment indicators on this unit, MEASURE YOURSELF EACH TIME. Overall, I would not buy again, I would make my own. I was just lazy.
I expected much better than I got
March 26, 2016
Having purchased Delta products in the past, I expected much better than I got. The casting was crude and the machining was sloppy.I had to take a file to the base plate and retap one of the screw holes which had a tear out problem. I sent photos to their support group and never heard a word from them. I won't buy another Delta product whithout closely examining it first.
Ok but there are better
March 6, 2013
I purchased this jig because Wood Magazine rated it tops and it was on sale at Amazon. It arrived as promised, well packed and in good shape. This thing is a tank, it weights a ton and the workmanship is better than what I have come to expect from the typical made in China product. I cleaned everything, using WD40 and assembled it in about 20 minutes. I did not need the washers that are supplied on the miter bar for use with saws that have T-slots. I removed them. The first thing I found was that it will not fit the older, or for all I know, the newer, Craftsman table saws. The older saws had a miter slot that was about .007 inch less than the standard .750 inch slot. I removed the miter bar and with about 10 minutes work on a belt sander had it fitting perfectly. Once in the miter slot the base had no wobble and sat rock solid on the table. The issue noted with the miter bar adjustment screws did not concern me.This jig is designed to be used on the left side of the blade and I prefer to cut with it on the right side. As shipped the base will hit the blade. There is a second set of holes for the miter bar that will move it out. However, the thickness of the stock will be limited. I wish that they had added a third set of miter bar mounting holes to allow for thicker stock. Another problem using the jig on the right side is that the face plate is very close to the base. When the stock has to be clamped above the base plate you can not set the blade height by referencing the table, you must reference from a spacer that is thicker than the base. I can't hold this against Delta as they planned for it for use on the left side. But a bit more thought by the designer could have eliminated this problem.Squaring the jig to the blade was not a big problem. Adjusting the thickness of the cut should be simple, just loosen the clamp, set the depth, tighten the clamp and you should be good to go. The problem is that if the clamp is loose enough to slide the base the face plate will tilt, slightly. This makes a precise setting difficult. This is the main reason that I only give it three stars.Once it is setup, the jig is easy to use and cuts great. This being said you can get the same results from the Grizzly jig for less money. This thing is a far cry from a five star tool, however I personally like Delta tools and with the price I paid overall, I am satisfied.

Will not work for larger stock on my Rockwell saw.
December 18, 2015
Purchased from Amazon August 2015. Just now getting around to setting it up, Dec 2015. After reasonably simple assembly I spent 45 minutes removing grease so that I could handle and use the jig without ruining the stock that I was to be cutting. Then I discovered that out of the box, the slot guide bar position prevents the vertical face of the jig from being adjusted closer than 1” from the blade on my Rockwell saw. So I thought no problem, I moved the guide bar to the right hand position, which moves the entire jig on its base so that the vertical face of the jig can easily be adjusted as close to blade as needed. But wait, I was not out of the woods. Now I have a problem at the other side of the spectrum. When I back the jig away from the blade I can only get about 1-1/8” clear between the blade and the base. So this means, for the 2-1/2” square stock that I wanted to cut double tenons on, it cannot be done with the guide bar in either position.I hit on the other, other solution – I returned the guide bar to the left position (as shipped) which provides adequate clearance between base and sawblade and installed a ¾” wooden block on the face which allows the (new wooden) vertical jig face to approach closely to the blade. I know the installation of the block eliminated my ability to use the vertical fence, but it is bent flat stock and very imprecise anyway.I grabbed a scrap of the 2-1/2” stock excited to make my first cuts. I was stymied again by the loss of throat capacity in the clamp. The clamp has about 3-1/8” capacity until I reduced it by ¾” with my vertical face block. I was short 1/8” of capacity for my 2-1/2” stock. Finally, I had to make another supplemental face block milled to give me back that 1/8” and a little more. On this one I installed a vertical fence.Don’t worry if you got lost in all of that. The bottom line is that depending on the placement of the miter slots in your table, you may or may not be able to use this jig for the stock that you are using, especially if it is larger stock. This will probably work fine if all you are using is ¾” stock. Even for that I would have to move the guide bar to the right hand position for my saw. Another possible solution that I have not investigated would be to disassemble the jig from its base and have the left side of the jig milled off so that it is narrower and will allow more clearance when the guide bar is in the right hand position. I doubt that much of the base can be sacrificed though. I spent so much more time fiddling with this, trying to find a way to make it work. It would have been so much easier to just cut the tenons by hand. I just have always wanted a tenoning jig. I should have built my own, I may still have to.
Borderline piece of junk
July 7, 2012
Just received this jig from Amazon this past week. Decided on the Jet vs. Delta due to the positive reviews of the Jet, and having owned Jet/Powermatic tools. This jig is borderline crap.Borderline meaning I can probably get it to work after I speak with Jet this week to get parts that actually work. The quick release holding device doesn't work-period. Hoepfully Jet can get me the "non quick-release" device.Other issues such as the alignment fence does not go to 90 degrees due to poor design/oversized washers. But I can get that to work. The slignment of the jig to the saw blade is crude, to say the least. But I can get this correctly aligned with enough time and patience. All in all, I am disappointed with this jig. Not sure if the Delta would have been any better though.I own a Powermatic jointer, the Jet 12-36 lathe and a jet dust collector and am very happy with them. I have had my eye on the Jet 1642 lathe but now I am wondering if I should choose another brand.
Not what I would have expected from Jet
November 3, 2007
I bought this over the Delta product based on the reviews I read on Amazon and other sites. It is quite hefty and eventually does what it is intended to do. However, it arrived soaked in grease that required a complete disassembly to clean off every part. The baseplate had some burs that required filing to prevent scratching my saw's top. The measurement guage is a complete joke and on my saw can not be zeroed out (its off by > 3/16). The fine adjustment knob is extremely difficult to turn despite cleaning and relubricating which makes "fine" adjusting difficult. Nothing was accurate out of the box and everything required adjustment. The stop/set screw to limit the jig's lateral movement to prevent it from going into the blade is too short to do what it is intended to do...another complete joke.I realize the need for packing grease, but this was like it was dipped in a bucket of goo then wrapped for shipping. I don't rely on a tool's measuring scale for final cuts, but if it is put on a tool, it should at least be close enough for "ballpark" measurements. This isn't even in the ballpark. A safety feature like a stop to prevent this from hitting the blade should work for both miter bar positions. When the bar is in the far left position (required for my saw), this is a useless feature.Save your money and buy one of the generic knockoffs from Woodcraft or Rockler or build your own.
Somewhat Disappointed
February 28, 2007
After compairing user reviews for Delta, Grizzley, and the JET, the Jet was an easy choice. It arrived in a timely manner without any shipping damage. During assembly and adjustment things began to get pear shaped. The silver vertical fence that holds the work piece at 90 degrees to the table and adjusts for beveling had a large burr in the upper edge. I'm glad I noticed this before gouging a project piece. I filed the burr off. My table saw is left tilting (Rigid 3650) so I had to move the bar that runs in the miter slot to the left side of the jig. This was no problem, however, neither the fence position scale nor the stop screw that prevents the jig from being able to hit the saw blade are functional. I don't understand this unless the 3650 is markedly different then other table saws? The main problem came when I tried to use the quick release function. When I loosened the small lock lever to release the guide bushing, it was frozen in the housing (no quick release). After disassembly I discovered that the lower tapered bushing that locks / releases the guide bushing had burrs on it. I filed the burrs off, lubed up everything real good but still no cigar. The problem was that the lower bushing was cocking in it's bore and not unlocking the guide bushing. I have been able to work around this defect by pushing down on the small lock lever after loosing it. This action pops the bushing free and enables 'quick release'. Using this tool to make tenons seems to work fine, but, for all the hassle I should have bought the Grizzley for sixty bucks.

Roughly Made Jig
July 6, 2004
I bought this after using the older model and was very disappointed in the quality of the castings and the hardware. The old one, which is still available at a lower price, is a better made piece of equipment. The "deluxe" version is sloppier in its movements and reminds me of the junk we used to see out of China several years ago. Of course the simple operations required of this jig may not require it to be sophisticated but its still disapointing. I sent it back and bought the cheaper one from Delta which works great and I like the handle placement better.

Won't fit on the Jet Supersaw
January 5, 2012
Jet made a huge splash with their Supersaw a few years ago. Now they don't even make accessories for this expensive and highly promoted and expensive piece of machinery. If a company won't stand behind its products, its products aren't worth the tin and pot metal they are made from. I'll never buy another Jet product.

Disappointed in the manufacturing quality- Returned it
August 30, 2016
My jig arrived packed in grease (I get it, but it is still annoying. I live in the pacific northwest. If its going to rust in shipping, its probably going to rust in the winter unless I heat my shop to 60 degrees all the time.)After assembly, I realized that Delta had machined the holes off of parallel and that I would need to re-manufacture the base plate to get it to run parallel with the blade. Otherwise all of my tenons would be off by a 1/32 to 1/16 depending on the width of the tenon. Not that big of a deal unless you wanted a jig to help you with accuracy. :)I also had issues with tightening down the screws on the jig. They were not very strong and one partially stripped out. I do not tighten things excessively tight as a rule, and I was not in this case either. Just poor quality or undersized screws. My table saw, a Grizzly G0691 Left tilt, has a T-slot 6 inches from the blade. This jig does not reach to 6 inches, leaving the measuring gauge useful only in relative measures (ie. if I add 1/4" to each value then it is accurate.)So disappointed in manufacturing, disappointed in adaptability, and disappointed in the screws that it was made from. Replaced it with a Grizzly tenoning jig. The Grizzly took a couple of days to get here, but it assembled and worked (except it has the same issue with measures.) Amazon did a great job with the return as always.
Junk
April 11, 2016
Junk- I could have got the same quality from Harbor Freight for $15 bucks. It wont align square to my table saw blade which is the main point of having this thing. I've had to run a shim along the face of support face to make it square. I also had to add some washers here and there to make the handles tighten up.The instruction manual is a joke as it will reference a photo while skipping the one before it and than go back to the one it missed later in the instructions. What in the hell happened to Delta?
Another 'Lemon' song...
March 16, 2016
I own a DELTA table saw and figured this would be a great pair-up for it. I ordered the jig and due to life reasons, its sat around sadly now beyond the return window, if that were not the case I can guarantee that I would be pursuing a return at this point. I am simply not able to get this jig squared up correctly. Very disappointed in the quality of this item, and I will likely stay away from future products because of this and some other issues with my table saw that have required serious modification and much frustration to resolve. I am not naïve enough to think that a tool would require NO setup, but there is no excuse for major misalignment and careless assembly...
