Fantastic pirate themed game
February 20, 2017
Fantastic pirate themed game. The open world is quite large, essentially the entire caribbean. Like any AC game, it can get pretty repetitive. However, I found there are enough different activities between main story, side story, bounties, sea battles, hunting, exploring, etc to keep me interested.
If you enjoyed the Ezio games, but hated AC3, give this one a try!
February 8, 2015
I had played this game on the PS3 and loved it. I have been a fan of the AC games since ACII and have played every game in the series through the hits and misses. AC3 nearly turned me away from this franchise, but Black Sails brought me back. The game play is similar to AC3 with some tweaked combat, free run and naval controls, but if you played AC3, this will feel familiar, but improved. The graphics and landscapes of the Caribbean make all the other prior games in the series seem bland and stagnant. Lust forestry, cities from Nassau, to Havana, to Kingston and small fisher villages and Mayan ruins, the imagery is inspired and breath taking. And the open sea... wow. The naval battles which were a novelty in AC3 have become a strength for this game. You can capture ships, fight entire fleets, and even wage war against forts. The actual assassination missions and story lines are very similar to prior games, no surprises here, but still fun. Hunting is also back from AC3, including harpooning of whales and sharks. The score is fitting for the game and the voice acting is some of the best in the series. And for once, the non-animus sequences aren't quite as frequent and as annoying as some of the Desmond sequences in the AC Ezio games. Lastly, the biggest improvement to this game is the plot line. Is this story original or going to wow you? No. The reason why I liked this story compared to prior installations was that Edward is a simple and easy to relate to "protagonist". The heavy philosophy of the Assassin's Creed games makes its way into this game, but it is less in your face. This adventure is a little lighter, and a little more straight forward, which I appreciate for this time of game.Pros: Amazing graphics, simple, straight forward story, likable protagonist, great naval battles. Did I mention AMAZING graphics?Cons: Familiar missions, fight mechanics (may not necessarily be a con, but no original content here)
The Best PS4 Game
June 29, 2014
This game is a work of art. It is perfection. The guys from Ubisoft really excel in this game. They created a masterpiece. I love this open world, the graphics are gorgeous, super gorgeous, the level of detail is impressive. I cannot believe a game like this was able to be created, it blows my mind. I am hooked in this game, the story is so cool, and the game is so fun. The ship, the jackdaw, is way too cool. I wish Ubisoft expanded this open world to the Caribbean coasts of Venezuela, Mexico, Margarita island, Aruba, Trinidad and Tobago, Curacao, Colombia, etc. This game is a truly masterpiece.Based on 100 I would give 100 stars. The game is not easy, it is challenging. Those who have not bought it yet must buy it. You will not regret it.I also have NFS Rivals, Tomb Raider, and Call of Duty. All of them are good games.
Absolutely amazing game
March 4, 2014
If you love sandbox games like the GTA series and stealth games like Metal Gear - this game is a perfect blend of the two. I have never played an AC game before so I had no idea what to expect. The setting of this game and attention to historical detail is very refreshing. Who would think that the West Indies in the 18th century would make a good setting for a game? It all just works though. Not including the mini games, there are about 4 distinct game mechanics: 3rd person exploration and fighting, sailing the seas and engaging in battle in a FREAKING PIRATE SHIP, hunting shark and whales with harpoons and deep sea diving. My least favorite is the deep sea diving but the absolute best is sailing. The graphics are absolutely stunning with very real and convincing water and wave effects. It's like you are in one of those old nautical oil paintings that you see hanging in a library or bar. When you hit a wave and water splashes over the ship it just feels like that is exactly what would happen. Fog and distance effects are done well giving a feeling of infinite visibility. When your crew cheers you on after returning from land it really makes you feel like you are The Captain who is running the show. The crew also breaks out into sea shanties when you set out to sea which is a completely new musical genre to me but unbelievably catchy tunes. You'll definitely have a few of them stuck in your head for a few days. The story is very... WEIRD. I haven't' played an AC game before so I don't know if the "parallel storyline" is in all of them, but that was very unexpected. I'll just leave it at that to avoid spoiling it.Anyway, if you have a PS4... GET THIS GAME.
Fantastic Game
March 1, 2014
I'll admit, I've never played any of the previous Assassin's Creed games. After about 12 hours gameplay on Black Flag, I realized I've been missing out on a great gaming series. I never really knew what to think of the game prior to getting this, so my review may not be as reliable as a seasoned Assassin's Creed player. I'm hoping people will pardon a beginner's opinion, though. The game story and graphics really made me feel I was in the realm of the Colonial West Indies. The level of detail put into the history of the story is incredible. The game has many different areas to explore and side-missions to accomplish. I think the characters are well-developed and very believable. There has been very little cliched dialogue. I'd be hard-pressed to say this game is boring. The covert-styled fighting can be repetitive, and the AI for enemies and civilians has been a hoot. However, the covert operations are pretty intense and make up for the rather dim enemies I've encountered. When you get into a fight, you'll often be confronted by multiple enemies. The great thing about combat in this game is the number of different ways to dispatch foes.I've had a pretty easy time learning the controls. I think the ship controls are probably more tedious to remember, but I suppose this is just related to switching between controlling characters and ships. So, there may be initial confusion for other people who have never played this game before, but hints are available throughout the game. Moreover, an in-game user guide is also available and explains how to control the character and other assorted interfaces, particularly your pirate ship.Overall, the gameplay is nothing short of majestic. You couldn't hope for a more immersive game. If you are like me and enjoy games like Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption or open-world Final Fantasy games, you'll love Assassin's Creed Black Flag (and I'm sure the previous Assassin's Creed games). I decided to learn more about the series. I watched gameplay of the previous games on youtube. They all looked really good and I encourage any prospective buyers to at least do the same if they have not played any of the Assassin's Creed games. I certainly plan on investing in past and future Assassin's Creed games.
Wow, Surprise Hit!
December 24, 2013
I had never played an Assassin's Creed game before, but with the lack of PS4 launch titles, and the failure of EA's Battlefield 4, I was in the market for a new game and I gave this a try.It is a lot of fun, and way more in depth then what I anticipated. Plenty to do.Sailing and high seas combat was awesome, I loved it! Fighting a galleon while avoiding giant waves while fighting a cannon hurling fortress was Epic! Hey Bethesda, put some sailing in Elder Scrolls! And any future RPG should take note of how well it worked in this game.It is open world sand box. Very little loading, free roam exploration. It is a pirate game, with an assassin twist. The cons are that the graphics, while good, are not the best, and the combat is fairly repetitive. Also at some point, you leave the pirate flashback and travel into the future where you walk around an office. Who was like, " hey, we have a great action game here, let's clog up the story and gameplay with the player walking around an office! How fun!" Seriously, who thought that office work was more fun than swashbuckling on the high seas? However, like any sandbox game, if you bring your imagination, and can easily get lost on side missions you will have a blast. The storyline is ok, in my opinion it was unnecessarily fragmented.Multiplayer was different, with some unique game modes....they may be the norm for A. Creed games, dunno.Overall, I am very happy with this game, Ubi did a great job. Also, unlike EA's Battlefield 4, this game has very few bugs and crashes, and is playable!

Didn't like it at first, now a huge fan
March 30, 2017
Initially I didn't like this game at all. I was easily getting killed by the Royal army and the village hunters. I even thought of selling this game. Then I've watched few videos in the youtube before started playing again a week later. I was hooked on to it from that moment. It not just about shooting, it teaches you strategy on how to kill your enemies. There are few glitches in the graphics rendering, here and there. But I like the attention of details they've put into this game., like: Royal army soldier snoring while guarding the outpost and burning trees. Only thing I hate it when dogs/honey badgers attack, its difficult to look for them before you aim and kill them. I've completed 10/34 campaign missions so far. Yet to explore the north Kyrat. But the game is not allowing me to travel north, I need to complete more campaign missions. Overall its amazing game, wish there was a local multiplayer option.
Far Cry 4 = Pure gold.

This became hands down one of my favorite games. The scenery is gorgeous, the environment is gorgeous, the story is immersive.. It's just a stellar game. I love the fact that you can play the game time and time again because with the interactive environment, you never know what is going to pop out at you. One minute you're all alone fighting rebels in the woods, and then a tiger hears the gunshots and comes and attacks the guys you're fighting and you as well. Or, you could be hunting a rhino and suddenly rebels pass by on the road and see you and then suddenly you're in a fire fight and then the golden path shows up to help fight with you. It's just a fantastic and incredible game. You can hunt for days, you can play the story, you can play the side missions.. You can do anything you want. The little buzz copter thing was my favorite combined with the grenade launcher, it made for some easy travel missions. Or how about riding an elephant and having it attack all of your enemies? Need I say more? I hope the newest Far Cry will be as good as this one, but it's going to be very hard to beat. Kyrat is a beautiful place and full of equally beautiful animals that could help you or kill you at any turn.
Gives GTAV a Run for its Open World Money

This is honestly one of the funnest games I have played in quite some time. I have grown tired in the post-COD4:MW era of first-person shooters because I haven't found any COD game, or most FPS's related to it, worthwhile. The Battlefield series has been decent, and for me Destiny is really the only FPS over the past 7-8 years that I found truly worth the price tag (I am not a Halo fan). But Far Cry 4 combines above average FPS gameplay with a unique game environment, unpredictable open-world experiences, and a story that will keep you interested. This is something along the lines of Tomb Raider meets GTA for me, as the open-world of Kyrat, the fictional Himalayan setting of the game, is lush with environments full of enemies, diverse types of missions, and wild animals that will surprise the heck out of you when they attack. I haven't ventured into the online multiplayer much because I have been quite enamored with the story mode, but I'll provide an update once I venture into it.As for the story, it has an Uncharted feel to it: American protagonist ventures into an exotic land and fights a ton of villains. The protagonist, Ajay, is not that interesting himself but his comrade's and their enemies are very interesting characters. Also, the journey he is on is one of self-discovery, as Kyrat is the homeland of his late parents, and as their story unfolds, the game becomes more and more interesting. As with most open-world games nowadays, there is the main campaign and a plethora of side missions, all which seem to provide over 30 hours of fresh gameplay. This is the first Far Cry game I have ever played, so if fans of the series are used to the quality of gaming provided in Far Cry 4, I feel a bit foolish for missing out all this time. One of the things that I enjoy most are the variety of weapons present in the game (everything from a bow with flaming arrows to a bazooka). If you haven't explored this game yet, there's no reason not to buy it now that it is basically priced as a Greatest Hits title.
Amazing!
August 9, 2015
I'm sure this game has been reviewed to death already, lol, but since I just played it recently, I thought I'd add mine to the mix. Anyway, this game was amazing. Technically, there werent necessarily any real upgrades from Far Cry 3 as far as gameplay and such goes, although the graphics were definitely even more amazing. I'd actually say this is possibly the best looking gen 8 game yet.So, speaking of gameplay....it was as engaging and fun as ever. Really, I could run and drive around Kyrat all day every day and never be disappointed. There is a ton of stuff to do, plenty of objects to find, all of which carrying their own piece of a few different stories. The flight suit was also super cool.Troy Baker as Pagan Min was inspired. I dont know that anybody could ever top Vaas as a video game villain, but Pagan Min was right up there, and Baker played the role to perfection. There were quite a few interesting characters in the game, but Min really stole the show.As always, your moral choices tend to be more of the best of the worst type things. You wont really feel great about either story arc at times (there are basically two, much like with FC3). Neither really represents a "good guy" type scenario. Lesser of two evils kind of deal here. That said, there is a little leeway. In my playthrough, where possible, I let people live. Sometimes, that doesnt even work out well, lol.Anyway, the story was pretty engaging IMO. It wont win any prizes necessarily, but it does keep you interested and wanting more.Did I mention the elephants? Holy ##### the elephants! They are complete bad ###es, and you will defintiely want to take full advantage of your ability to ride one into an enemy outpost and wreak havoc. In fact, the first outpost I attacked, they had an elephant penned. I shot the elephant in the behind with an arrow from afar, and it basically went beserk and took care of the entire outpost for me while I watched the whole thing through my binoculars, lol.Did I mention the Rhinos? F### the rhinos. They are also bad ###es, and they dont really discriminate, lol. Everybody in the area is a potential target for their ill temper and rage. They are also incredibly resilient. You will waste a ton of bullets trying to take one down. Also, once they figure out that you are the one shooting at them, they definitely dont hesitate to let you know just how little they appreciated that treatment. At one point, I literally just fired a grenade launcher at an enemy courier when a rhino came out of nowhere and smashed the courier. Just then, a rebel truck and an enemy truck both rolled in and everything started attacking everythign. As I watched in amazement, and eagle swooped in and attacked me. After I fought off the eagle, looked over and gazed upon the smoking ruins that was several vehicles and a bunch of once living people, with a rhino sauntering off looking pleased with itself, I thought "You know, this is what Far Cry is all about right here".btw....eagles....by far the most annoying and vicious creatures in a game that also features honey badger, rhinos, elephants, and so on. They move fast, they can come from any direction, are huge and can carry off smaller prey (like goats...which you will see happen), and view everything as prey. F### those eagles, lol.I'm sure you can tell from reading all of this that there is a lot of content and a lot of randomness in this game, which really adds to the experience. This is a living and breathing game world, and it doesnt stop just because the prodigal son (you) sees fit to wander through it.I cant recommend this game enough. Buy it, play it, love it!
What a blast!
February 23, 2015
I have over 10 hours+ into this game and I really love it. I played FC3 and 2 on the PC prior to this and many of the game play elements have been carried over into this version so you start with a system you know. The game has been solid with no error screens or hiccups to speak of.My favorite things so far have been the scenery. I like to take the ripper (gyrocopter) everywhere I can and sight-see. I fly it to locations like towers so I can get in and out fast. I also like to ride the elephant with the RPG ready to take out enemy trucks, etc. My primary weapons are throwing knives and LMG with red dot for close in and the Sniper Rifle when approaching from a distance. What a great game!
Elephant riding 101
January 12, 2015
Very realistic, constantly entertaining and extremely addictive. This one has it all... story, drama, violence, gore, comedy, and... wait for it... elephant riding. The elephant. The absolute BEST vehicle in any game I have personally ever played, and when you use the elephant as a weapon while riding it, and it's a very effective and efficient weapon, your enemies will run for the hills. The graphics have every blade of grass, strand of hair, and even direction of the wind down to an amazing and entertaining science. For more in depth reviews, you can find hundreds here. I am here to inform, and maybe warn you about one thing in particular that could happen to you, or rather your character. When you befriend and ride an elephant, he has your back. He'll even wait for you to finish your business at a camp that needs liberating. I do, however, suggest you do not stand "behind" him for too long or you will be sorry. Your health will be just fine, but your shoes, pants, shirt, etc, not so much. I found out by taking a phone call while just having dismounted an elephant and standing behind it without pausing the game. BIG messy mistake. It was, however, pretty amusing explaining what had happened to the person on the phone who happens to not be a gamer. Take a few steps back or you will get into, rather covered in, his "business". I mean, that's unless you're into that kind of stuff. Also, NEVER leave the game unpaused if you must leave it temporarily or, other than having elephant dung rain on your parade, much worse can happen. Happy riding, and let's keep it clean!

which had a cool introduction in the previous game
February 3, 2016
I stopped playing Assassin's Creed for a few years because of the events of AC3, but eventually got back into the swing of it with Black Flag. It expands the sailing part of the story, which had a cool introduction in the previous game, but seems like the game was padded with a lot of sea travel to make it seem bigger (one trophy requires you visit every landmark in the game). Detailed story inside and out of the Animus (You're an Analyst working for Abstergo Entertainment working off of Desmond Miles's recovered materials). Detail to character was my favorite, especially with the protagonist and James Kidd.

This a very fun game. It has plenty of game play and plenty of things to do. I love the mixture of being an assassin and a pirate. You can sink boats, free slaves, fish for whales, find treasure, assassinate people, and so on. It's very fun. BUT.. the one big problem I have with the game is command glitches. There's so much you can do in the game and it seems like the wires get crossed in the process. Climbing and hiding in a hurry can be problematic because of your character messing up or getting stuck. It's very, very frustrating. The game is very fun, but I don't understand how a game this new can have so many problems when it comes to getting your character to do what you want when you want him to. It's worse than the first Infamous's few and far between glitches while climbing, which is even more sad cuz that game was made years ago. I would almost take two stars of because it is so frustrating but, all in all it is a good game
Great PS4 intro game
March 18, 2014
Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag is another solid installment in the series. 4 to 4.5 star is where I put this game. This is the series where I am not real excited to get this game, but I have always been glad I did. The game looks great and runs very smooth. I love slowly walking up to two guards and SLICE! The slicing of the sword and diving off a roof to assassinate a guard are great, especially when the camera slows down just a little. Or hitting a guard with a berserk arrow and watch as they attack each other. One of my favorite ways to take care of guards when you are surrounded is to drop that smoke bomb. You quickly slice them up and move on. The hunting is also a nice change of pace from walking here and there. But I do have some negatives. Getting used to maneuvering the ship can be very frustrating. You turn or accidentally run into a tiny island. You can't back up, obviously, but it does get frustrating. Once you get more comfortable with the ship it does become more fun. I also hate the way he jumps on everything or can't jump up to a short ledge when he can scale a wall in two seconds. On the other hand it is fun when he lands where you want him too. Another negative is when you have to ease drop on some guards and you get caught and have to do it all over again. You sit, walk, sit again and walk closer and you just happen to flinch in the wrong direction, start all over. But overall the pros out weigh the cons. This is a fun game. Taking out a large ship or destroying a large base are great. The graphics look great, the water looks actually like water, the ship has a lot of detail and even the rain looks good. Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag is a great start to the PS4 and gives you a taste of things to come.
Took a hiatus but glad to be back...
February 18, 2014
I played the first couple ACs and enjoyed them but got a little bored with some of the game aspects. Haven't played any until this one (at least 4 years). Here's my take aways:Positives-Graphics are great! Story is pretty damn good...what's not to like about pirates!!! Action packed with sword play, assassinations, boat battles, forts, puzzles, treasure, upgrades, etc. My favorite part by far is the sea action. Battling numerous boats at once or a fort with rogue waves coming in is highly entertaining!!! They really captured the feel and environments with this game.Negatives-There aren't to many negatives but the few in the game are REALLY annoying!!! The tendency for your character to grab on to the most useless ledges, ropes, edges, etc. can get really old. I think this is a function of having the run button also be the grab button (because you run a lot in this game). If they were separate buttons it might work better. You'll be running down an alleyway and if to close to something you'll grab it or climb up it. Same with roof tops, pillars, trees, etc. I think by now they could come up with some smarter interaction AI. Then when you do need to grab something specific he'll either grab the wrong thing or do nothing at all. Perfect example...when finding a treasure chest if you run up to it he'll jump on top and squat down. Completely useless!!!! Things like this shouldn't be in the game. Don't let it be an option to have happen. I know it adds to the "realism" but come on, I want to open the chest, not sit on it. There are lots of these moments in this game. Frustrating. The only other negative is the whole "real world" acts you have to go thru. I know this has been a major part of the story since the beginning, but to make me exit the Animus, talk to a girl, head up the elevator, talk to the CEO, head down to the receptionist, talk to a courier, and head back to my station to continue the REAL game is just a waste of time. This happens to much for me and takes away from the meat of the game....which is being a pirate!!!Final-The game as a whole is well worth the money. So much to find, explore, sail to. It's endless. I purchased this "used like new" thru the market place and couldn't be happier! Highly recommend with the limited launch titles for the PS4.
ARrr.....tharr be pirates!!!
February 8, 2014
I've never been a big fan of the Assassin's Creed series. I've played 1-3 on the xbox and recently tried the newest offering on the Playstation 4. Now while the series has generally been good and enjoyable, I've never really gotten into the games and found myself getting bored once I had unlocked all of my weapons and reached the peak of my ninja powers. I still haven't finished a single Assassin's Creed in the series; including this one.But this one is different. Pirates! Yes! Pirates vs Ninjas! ARrrrrr!I've only progressed about halfway through the storyline so far and I've already almost maxxed out my pirate ship and fleet. It's just.....so much damn fun. The only thing I can think of to make it better would be the addition of a few more realistic pirate elements like Rhum, scurvy, bad teeth, hygiene, and various genital forget-me-nots that should be unlockable in various ports of ill-repute.I've always been a fan of the Create Your Own Story type games (*cough* Skyrim *cough*) so I generally find contrived storylines that I am Required to follow (often kicking and screaming) less-than engaging. But the storyline here is entertaining enough and can be set aside indefinitely for extended periods of swashbuckling and pirate wenching.I hear that Ubisoft is sending out feelers to gauge the interest of a fully pirate-themed game and I will definitely be hopping on board that termite-infested, land-loving, chicken-of-the sea adventure. The Good:ARRrrGh! Pirates! AND NinjaS! ZOMG!Sea combat is well done and very entertaining. It's like going from Sid Meyer's Pirates in crayon to the modern day with 3D modeling and epic explosion time. The story is decent enough to keep you engaged and plugging along the main story line and can be parlayed in favor of pirating if one chooses. Graphics are quite good. The Bad:Assassin's Creed is still Assassin's Creed. Poor pathfinding and physics have been the bane of the acrobatic ninja for the life of this series and this title still suffers at times from random acts of death caused by the engine not picking up your intended momentum, intent, or direction. On the plus side, an epic fall to your death is rendered in wonderful detail on the Playstation 4.The Ugly:This may not be the game of the year, but it's definitely a good game for right now. Well worth the entertainment value especially if you can get lucky enough to pick this game up when it goes on sale. It may grow stale and repetitive after a while similar to previous offerings, but the added dimension of naval combat helps keep this game fresher for much longer.I haven't even played multiplayer yet. Going to have to shiver someone else's timbers eventually me maties! ArrrrrGh!
The update changed the game
November 19, 2013
Edit - I had first rated this 5 stars but upon playing it again a year later i noticed a bunch of major flaws since the new patches. The AI during combat is glitchy, combat is glitchy itself and so is Edward's actions during combat (Edward will temporarily refuse to reload guns if enemy is approaching from afar, Edward will temporarily refuse to climb buildings if shot or stabbed prior, . Jumping from houses to trees or different obstacles is now a guessing game whether or not you'll fall to your death. The minigames are now almost impossible to beat and have 0 fun value. Everything has changed.I would like to point out a few things that make this game amazing and some points that I think ubisoft should work on.1- the graphics in this game are so pleasant to the eyes that you sometimes get the feeling that you're actually in the Caribbean. By the way the water flows and glows is breathtaking just to look at.2- the game play is amazing and so is the storyline..although there's like 5 things going on at the same time its difficult to keep track of what's going on so you need to stay focused and actually pay close attention to the cinematic and there's a lot to read also.3- the games longetivity is also amazing. There's so many things to do and so many locations.t this game will keep me playing for weeks4- the soundtracks in the game are beautiful5- everything you do in the game results in something else ..for example...if you like to hunt and gather alot of skin and bones from animals..that will give you material to make things like holsters and darts which will become necessary in many missions...attacking ships will give you a wanted level which will make hunter ships hunt for you...6- the map is so massiveI think there's a few things that ubisoft can work on1- there are some glitches in the game but nothing major like -it rains inside your compound when you approach the door but when you walk in there's no rain - when you kill guards in the water they jump up then float on top of the water -2- there should be more weapons in the game..there are only enough that you can count on one hand..3- when you upgrade your sword..it makes little difference in the combat and damage you do4- when picking up rifles or any enemy weapon Edward keeps dropping it at any action you do ( for instance if I'm picking up a rifle from the ground and I need to get high up on a rooftop to get a nice sniper position, you get up on the rooftop but Edward throws the rifle away)

Good game, but not for me
December 3, 2015
Haven't never played any of the Far Cry titles, I didn't know what to expect from this game. I assumed it would be a first person shooter with tons of action. I what I didn't expect was an open world action first shooter game with tons of missions and side missions. At first, I enjoyed the game, but after awhile I became overwhelmed (lazy with the side missions) that side track from the main storyline. Not to take anything away from the game, its an awesome game. I know for sure if I had the time and patience like I did when I was younger, I would love this game. If you have the time and tolerance buy this game.
More of the same, but that's not a bad thing!
November 3, 2015
If you have a played a Far Cry game before you know exactly what you are getting. If you are new to the series, it is a good FPS (first person shooter) with some RPG (role playing game) character progression thrown in. It is easy to lose track of time wandering around collecting items and playing the side mission. If you played a Far Cry before I would advise waiting until you have empty spot in your gaming schedule, but if you are new to the Far Cry world this would be a nice holiday pick up.
Not as strong as Far Cry 3, but a worthy game nonetheless.
September 1, 2015
It plays very similar to Far Cry 3, but the story is not as engrossing as it was in the previous rendition. The story follows a man who was kidnapped by the ruler of this Indian providence. There are two main story lines (You can go with the traditional male's story or go with the revolutionary female story) and the ending has two different choices as well (no spoilers here though). The gameplay is very similar to assassian's creed or dying light in the most broad sense. You must climb to the top an area to gain vision of the map around. Once you control that base you can infiltrate an enemy encampment. After taking over that you get missions in the surrounding area. There are about 20 radio towers and maybe 30 bases to conquer. There are 4 strongholds which are extremely strong bases (that apparently get weaker as you progress in the game). You can be loud and destroy bases with pure brute force or you can stealthily take out every base without being spotted. That is your choice. Personally I tried to do them about 50/50 and it turned out fun either way. However, I recommend if possible Far Cry 3 over this game due to the fact the story line is vastly better in #3 t han in this one. But this game isn't garbage either so shell out for both if possible.
This is a great game with tight controls that will provide hundreds of hours of enjoyment
June 10, 2015
Game and movie reviews are subjective. This review will really only be helpful to those interested in this genre. For those new to the Far Cry series, each game has its own original story and characters so it is not necessary to have played the previous games to enjoy it fully. It is a first person, open-world sandbox game with a main quest narrative and a ton of side quests and random encounters that you can enjoy or avoid. No story spoilers here AT ALL. I will only say that the narrative is compelling but somewhat familiar, well done but nothing truly original. Actions and decisions will affect the game environment and the story but not as much as I'd have liked. Ultimately it is an enjoyable ride story wise.As for gameplay, you can play as you wish for the majority of the game. Play stealthy or go in guns blazing or mix it up as you see fit or the situation changes. As you progress, you can build your character by unlocking skills that lend themselves to your play style. There are many unlockables, mainly in the form of weapons and their customization and accessories.Pros:- Huge world divided into 2 main regions. The first is open to you, the second will be unlocked at a certain point in the main story.- Fun co-op mode (can be glitchy though)- You can play how you want. Quest, Hunt, Outpost aquisition (tactical gaming elements), Radio Tower aquisition (platform gaming elements)- Hundreds of hours of gameplay.Cons:- Some elements can feel repetitive (if you focus on only one game element at a time)- Some decisions you are required to make feel forced, like you have a choice to make only so they can employ multiple endings.Bottomline: This is a great game with tight controls that will provide hundreds of hours of enjoyment so long as you enjoy the genre. It may even convert those who don't.
A welcome Surprise!
March 14, 2015
I have spent a lot of time of this game to experience as much as possible and I was rather pleased with what I have payed.First off this game looks amazing and runs very well, the new setting is a welcome change compared to farcry 3.The sound design is amazing with guns having lots of impact and a very well done soundtrack.there are a lot of improvements to the game like the amount of guns and signature guns you can get. and the character are modeled very well with lots of detail even on random NPS.Gameplay wise Farcry4 is essentially the same as before but with tweaks and new features like the ability to fly your own small helicopter, which makes exploring the giant world amazing and shows off the games very far view distance and the games beautiful world. you can also shoot from vehicles which is very fun and makes for a lot of cool moments.the Missions are much more open and allows for more choice when it comes to combat which is great for people who don't like being directed what to do, also thankfully the QTE fights are gone and the majority of all fights are very minimal when it comes to cut-scenes.the Drug sections of the game have been replaced mostly by entering shangri la and those are very cool and allows for some beautiful visuals and allows for outlandish designs and eventsThe story is rather interesting but your character isn't too interesting aside from his position in the games story. his voice acting is good but he doesn't get much development. but everyone else is pretty well acted, especially Pagin Min, who is an amazing antagonist.I also enjoyed the balance of power missions that allow you to take sides between the too idealistic revolution leaders, whom are very well written and give very good reasons for their ideals.great game with not many flaws and, make sure if you get the game make sure you either have a PS4,Xboxone, or good PC.
Outstanding graphics and gameplay, feels repetitive after a while.
January 31, 2015
For the most part I am highly impressed with Far Cry 4, and I'd give it 4.5 stars if that were an option. I feel like so much of the praise and criticisms of the game that I have read are valid. Graphics are amazing, combat is intense, and there is a TON of game here. Even the story is pretty fun once you play all the way through it. Where I find myself disappointed is that the game begins to feel very repetitive after a while, and the multiplayer could be more innovative. The environment is fairly static and aside from a few missions where you're in the snow, the scenery is the same for the entire map, and because it's such a huge map that leaves something to be desired. I would like to see more variety in the scenery. The gameplay itself also feels repetitive: you traverse a stretch of terrain to basically go wipe out another base, and you survive the onslaught of wild animals and random factions of enemies along the way. Your character grows stronger, develops more capabilities, and attains better weapons throughout the game, but the game itself plays pretty much the same the whole way through. There a lot of side quests that are fun, but they're also repetitive because you're essentially doing the same thing but in different spots on the map (e.g., wiping out a propaganda center, finding hidden objects, hijacking enemy freight trucks). However, I'm not trying to bash the game. It is a beautiful game and very entertaining. The only reason I would not give it 5 stars is because of the amount of repetition; the game needed to invent more variety for itself.

can't even get platinum trophy since the game's so old certain server-side features don't work anymore. same repetitive formula as past games.
This game might have to walk the plank
August 10, 2016
Pretty good game but could have been better. You are invincible from the start and when you go out to sea (with your own ship) you can become virtually invincible at sea in 3 hours of playing. Once you realize this the game goes from 5/5 to 3/5. Game has worst Multiplayer of all Assassin creeds due to no innovation and increased complexity.
it's the same game that the last 3-4 were...but now with pirates! Stop with the formulaic releases, I want innovation!
March 23, 2016
It's the same game, but with clunky boat battles and not as interesting as I wanted them to be pirates. They can change the scenery, but it's still the same damned game over and over...and over...I gave it 3 stars instead of 2 because if it was the first AC game I played, I would've loved it - but that's likely to not be the case for the majority of people.

February 24, 2015
This was my 2nd assassin's creed game, and truthfully I had fun, even when I beat it there seemed to be a whole splew of things you had to do. However there are a few annoying issues like boring missons, okay-ish multiplayer, and tedious grinding to upgrade your ship, but the game is fun.
If you have for Ps3 or 360, No need to get for the PS4
December 18, 2014
Played this game on 360 and then bought Cheap once I got my PS4.. Graffics look exactly the same on my 1080p TV.. My TV actually seems to show more issues with games CONVERTED for the new systems VS games actually made for the PS4. Great game tho my FAVORITE Assasins Game
Decent
March 23, 2014
I would give this game a 4 or even 5 star if it were next-gen only, but I forgot it was Ubisoft. The gameplay is well improved on Ac3 and the water combat is very enticing. However, it does have basically the same side quests, and the main plot follows conspiracies as usual. If you have a console (current gen) and are looking for one of the few games to choose from, this is worthy if you haven't played it on last gen consoles.

An Average Game. Nothing Special
June 4, 2015
The game is gorgeous and the game is a vast improvement over the previous titles when it comes to the mechanics and visuals. The story is boring and not compelling in any way, shape, or form.Pros:-Graphics-Gameplay-Co-opCons:-Story-CharactersIt is simply an average game. Vaas from Far Cry 3 was a great antagonist, but sadly there is no one like him in this game or anyone even slightly as compelling as he was.
Unbelievably bad ending / story / badguy, great gameplay
April 14, 2015
After Vaas from FC3 hopes were high for their new bad guy who is Pagan Min. He may be the worst bad guy I've ever played a game about, ever. I don't care that he's gay (though that made it harder to fear him) but he was hardly featured at ALL, when he did show up he did nothing intimidating, and when you finally get to him at the end it's so anti-climactic it's sickening. He didn't even have one guard around him he's just in a house all by himself eating some food. really??? That's what I worked so hard for? It was a true F YOU to fans of FC3, and just screamed developer laziness. I checked the alternate endings and they were equally lame as well. The one scene that featured Pagan as the game progressed was a very weak ripoff of Inglorious Bastards where the nazi leader was speaking while people were hiding under the house. Where's the creativity? On the plus, the gameplay is superior to FC3 even though the story / ending isn't. Helicopter a nice touch, some of the new guns a nice touch. But the weaponry is so nice it took away from the challenge so I'd catch myself purposely using lesser weapons so i could actually fight, rather than just noob tubing everything that moved. Voice acting is improved especially at bases. At Durgesh prison there is some voice acting where the heavy is talking to his dog as he's patrolling that really cracked me up. talking about bench pressing his enemies. But oh man all that work for a weak ending just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'll probably play FC5 but i no longer trust these guys to not cut corners
Fun, with some annoyances. Not as good as 3 but still good.
March 21, 2015
This was a great game, but the coop s*** kind of sucked. You can only do so much with your friends, and what you help them do doesn't count towards your game, like taking outposts, side missions, ect. The graphics were amazing, and the story was fun. But the coop thing annoyed me greatly. I find it redundant to have to do things twice, once for you and once for your friend, you know to make it fair. There were were issues too, like i could only refill so much of my health when i was in someone else's game. I bullet would actually count for 2,3,4 bullets pending on the gun, which made you run out of ammo fast. Some of the sise missions were annoying too. Got old fast, and i decided they weren't worth is anymore. But the game is fun, definitely play this game, dont spend a lot though, or just rent it for the week, that should be long enough.
If I have to play another mission where I'm hallucinating or have to fight a demon, I will SCREAM!
March 18, 2015
I want to like this game, I really do. The visuals are really quite stunning and I haven't enjoyed being in a game world as much since Red Dead Redemption. With that said, much like Far Cry 3, the missions are really annoying. The storyline has improved somewhat since the last installment but I still am more inclined to just liberate outposts and perform other side missions. I really couldn't care less about either of the sides I'm supposed to be choosing in this game and it's even more disappointing that the outcomes are equally unsatisfying.I'm not really sure if the writers are dropping huge amounts of acid but they seem to have an affinity for writing it into their games. I grew tired of the gimmick after the second Act where I'm forced to escape the prison and evade a demon whilst drugged. I prefer my games to be more lucid and if I want to be on a bad acid trip, I will not rely on a game for that experience. I won't dare go back to the overhyped Shangri La unless i'm high in real life. Too bad. I really like achieving 100% in games but I don't even think I can finish this one. Also, driving mechanics are still whack. Ubisoft needs to steal a page from EA and sort that out.
and intensity of this game are great, the story and game-play
March 4, 2015
While the graphics, sound quality, and intensity of this game are great, the story and game-play, unfortunately do not live up to those high standards. For instance, there isn't a great introduction to the world of FarCry 4, there is barely a tutorial, and the controls are confusing in their default setting-- not to mention the inability to switch to a third person view when piloting, driving, etc. any sort of machinery, which makes it difficult to gauge exactly what you're doing.
Umm..
February 17, 2015
In all honesty, I've purchased this game after I had played Far Cry 3 in the PS3 system. That game was pretty good. It wasn't the best game created but it was enough to get me interested into the story, the adventure and some action within the game-play and cut-scenes. This game didn't follow suit well. I'm not gonna go in dept to keep the story discreet, but I didn't find myself into this game as much as I was before in Far Cry 3. For the longest, I felt a tad confused on who the true villain for reasons I can't explain for the sake of the story. Everyone isn't innocent and Pagan Min actually didn't have that much of a cold heart as some of the other characters. As you play this game, there are some missions where you wold have to make the decisions, such as picking between character A and character B on who can raise a country better. It's like when a woman ask someone which dress looks better while both dresses look similar. The in-game arguments is rather pointless. The game's scenery is beautiful and the animals are more realistically crafted. But since I play for a story with action and adventure, maybe even for tear-jerker moments, I was rather disappointed.

I tried to like this game, but I did not find the graphics or the story appealing. I didn't care what was going on and found myself bored. That being said, maybe it's not my genre. Horizon zero dawn and destiny are my absolute favorites for graphics and playability.
Broken game
July 15, 2016
Far cry 4 had dropping frame rates, poor targetting system, and broken levels. As I played far cry if too many things appeared on screen the frame rate would drop almoat freezing the screen. When I would aim at an enemy my bullets wouldn't hit the target. I used a sniper rifle and was unablen to obtain a headshot. Futhermore, levels would just fall apart. I would activate a check point only to have the screen black out . Disappointing
Not as good as the 3rd.

update on farcry 4 so far. good graphics, but as you go on in the game it gets boring doing same thing over and over. there is more side missions than the campaign mode.after you beat the game- you will not play it no more, there is no replay value in farcry 4 at all. you will get mad at times playing farcry 4 because you go to a bell tower to another bell tower or killing animals after animals and you just get bored with it. save your money and wait for witcher 3 or batman.overall graphics are good like i said, but the gameplay is just boring, boring, boring
Not that good
February 24, 2015
I got this game thinking it was going to be a blast, but I was very sadly disappointed. I feel like I am doing the same thing over and over again, and not really getting anything out of it. For the money I just honestly don't think it's worth it. Ubisoft really has not been releasing very good games recently.
