Fantastic pirate themed game
February 20, 2017
Fantastic pirate themed game. The open world is quite large, essentially the entire caribbean. Like any AC game, it can get pretty repetitive. However, I found there are enough different activities between main story, side story, bounties, sea battles, hunting, exploring, etc to keep me interested.
If you enjoyed the Ezio games, but hated AC3, give this one a try!
February 8, 2015
I had played this game on the PS3 and loved it. I have been a fan of the AC games since ACII and have played every game in the series through the hits and misses. AC3 nearly turned me away from this franchise, but Black Sails brought me back. The game play is similar to AC3 with some tweaked combat, free run and naval controls, but if you played AC3, this will feel familiar, but improved. The graphics and landscapes of the Caribbean make all the other prior games in the series seem bland and stagnant. Lust forestry, cities from Nassau, to Havana, to Kingston and small fisher villages and Mayan ruins, the imagery is inspired and breath taking. And the open sea... wow. The naval battles which were a novelty in AC3 have become a strength for this game. You can capture ships, fight entire fleets, and even wage war against forts. The actual assassination missions and story lines are very similar to prior games, no surprises here, but still fun. Hunting is also back from AC3, including harpooning of whales and sharks. The score is fitting for the game and the voice acting is some of the best in the series. And for once, the non-animus sequences aren't quite as frequent and as annoying as some of the Desmond sequences in the AC Ezio games. Lastly, the biggest improvement to this game is the plot line. Is this story original or going to wow you? No. The reason why I liked this story compared to prior installations was that Edward is a simple and easy to relate to "protagonist". The heavy philosophy of the Assassin's Creed games makes its way into this game, but it is less in your face. This adventure is a little lighter, and a little more straight forward, which I appreciate for this time of game.Pros: Amazing graphics, simple, straight forward story, likable protagonist, great naval battles. Did I mention AMAZING graphics?Cons: Familiar missions, fight mechanics (may not necessarily be a con, but no original content here)
The Best PS4 Game
June 29, 2014
This game is a work of art. It is perfection. The guys from Ubisoft really excel in this game. They created a masterpiece. I love this open world, the graphics are gorgeous, super gorgeous, the level of detail is impressive. I cannot believe a game like this was able to be created, it blows my mind. I am hooked in this game, the story is so cool, and the game is so fun. The ship, the jackdaw, is way too cool. I wish Ubisoft expanded this open world to the Caribbean coasts of Venezuela, Mexico, Margarita island, Aruba, Trinidad and Tobago, Curacao, Colombia, etc. This game is a truly masterpiece.Based on 100 I would give 100 stars. The game is not easy, it is challenging. Those who have not bought it yet must buy it. You will not regret it.I also have NFS Rivals, Tomb Raider, and Call of Duty. All of them are good games.
Absolutely amazing game
March 4, 2014
If you love sandbox games like the GTA series and stealth games like Metal Gear - this game is a perfect blend of the two. I have never played an AC game before so I had no idea what to expect. The setting of this game and attention to historical detail is very refreshing. Who would think that the West Indies in the 18th century would make a good setting for a game? It all just works though. Not including the mini games, there are about 4 distinct game mechanics: 3rd person exploration and fighting, sailing the seas and engaging in battle in a FREAKING PIRATE SHIP, hunting shark and whales with harpoons and deep sea diving. My least favorite is the deep sea diving but the absolute best is sailing. The graphics are absolutely stunning with very real and convincing water and wave effects. It's like you are in one of those old nautical oil paintings that you see hanging in a library or bar. When you hit a wave and water splashes over the ship it just feels like that is exactly what would happen. Fog and distance effects are done well giving a feeling of infinite visibility. When your crew cheers you on after returning from land it really makes you feel like you are The Captain who is running the show. The crew also breaks out into sea shanties when you set out to sea which is a completely new musical genre to me but unbelievably catchy tunes. You'll definitely have a few of them stuck in your head for a few days. The story is very... WEIRD. I haven't' played an AC game before so I don't know if the "parallel storyline" is in all of them, but that was very unexpected. I'll just leave it at that to avoid spoiling it.Anyway, if you have a PS4... GET THIS GAME.
Fantastic Game
March 1, 2014
I'll admit, I've never played any of the previous Assassin's Creed games. After about 12 hours gameplay on Black Flag, I realized I've been missing out on a great gaming series. I never really knew what to think of the game prior to getting this, so my review may not be as reliable as a seasoned Assassin's Creed player. I'm hoping people will pardon a beginner's opinion, though. The game story and graphics really made me feel I was in the realm of the Colonial West Indies. The level of detail put into the history of the story is incredible. The game has many different areas to explore and side-missions to accomplish. I think the characters are well-developed and very believable. There has been very little cliched dialogue. I'd be hard-pressed to say this game is boring. The covert-styled fighting can be repetitive, and the AI for enemies and civilians has been a hoot. However, the covert operations are pretty intense and make up for the rather dim enemies I've encountered. When you get into a fight, you'll often be confronted by multiple enemies. The great thing about combat in this game is the number of different ways to dispatch foes.I've had a pretty easy time learning the controls. I think the ship controls are probably more tedious to remember, but I suppose this is just related to switching between controlling characters and ships. So, there may be initial confusion for other people who have never played this game before, but hints are available throughout the game. Moreover, an in-game user guide is also available and explains how to control the character and other assorted interfaces, particularly your pirate ship.Overall, the gameplay is nothing short of majestic. You couldn't hope for a more immersive game. If you are like me and enjoy games like Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption or open-world Final Fantasy games, you'll love Assassin's Creed Black Flag (and I'm sure the previous Assassin's Creed games). I decided to learn more about the series. I watched gameplay of the previous games on youtube. They all looked really good and I encourage any prospective buyers to at least do the same if they have not played any of the Assassin's Creed games. I certainly plan on investing in past and future Assassin's Creed games.
Wow, Surprise Hit!
December 24, 2013
I had never played an Assassin's Creed game before, but with the lack of PS4 launch titles, and the failure of EA's Battlefield 4, I was in the market for a new game and I gave this a try.It is a lot of fun, and way more in depth then what I anticipated. Plenty to do.Sailing and high seas combat was awesome, I loved it! Fighting a galleon while avoiding giant waves while fighting a cannon hurling fortress was Epic! Hey Bethesda, put some sailing in Elder Scrolls! And any future RPG should take note of how well it worked in this game.It is open world sand box. Very little loading, free roam exploration. It is a pirate game, with an assassin twist. The cons are that the graphics, while good, are not the best, and the combat is fairly repetitive. Also at some point, you leave the pirate flashback and travel into the future where you walk around an office. Who was like, " hey, we have a great action game here, let's clog up the story and gameplay with the player walking around an office! How fun!" Seriously, who thought that office work was more fun than swashbuckling on the high seas? However, like any sandbox game, if you bring your imagination, and can easily get lost on side missions you will have a blast. The storyline is ok, in my opinion it was unnecessarily fragmented.Multiplayer was different, with some unique game modes....they may be the norm for A. Creed games, dunno.Overall, I am very happy with this game, Ubi did a great job. Also, unlike EA's Battlefield 4, this game has very few bugs and crashes, and is playable!

Fantastic game!

What a great game! So much fun! I was sad at first because I thought you had to have PSN memberships to do the co-op, but you don't. So now I can 100% synchronization. I am happy!
Patch Fixes Most Graphical Errors
October 13, 2016
The big patch fixes most of the glitches and issues attributed with this Assassin's Creed game. I bought it for about ten bucks, and have spent a good amount of time (20 hours) on it so far. I love the French Revolution and its attached history, so I am enjoying the game a lot. It's definitely an Assassin's Creed game for a next-gen console, because the graphics are dazzling. I'm inclined to give this full stars because most of the issues have been fixed now. It's hard to regret this purchase.
Great Price for Great Game
July 20, 2016
Awesome game. Lots of different activities had me playing for over 40 hours easy. Very glad I waited for all the patches though, because even then I still came across some gnarly glitches. Ok story compared to all the others AC games.
The Return of Assassins Creed
May 18, 2016
Assassins Creed Unity is a lot of fun. It reminds me of the older assassins creed games if you are into that, and you could completely change how your character looks which is fun(outfit and weapons only). The story is somewhat interesting and the combat is challenging, but still good. The bugs have been patched and I have only experienced a problem once in the whole time I played. And for this price I highly reccommened this awesome game!
A Good or Bad Assassin's Creed game?
July 10, 2015
When this game was first announced I believe it was going to be a good Assassin's Creed game and when I got it at the midnight launch I played it for 4 days and it was good but the news like IGN thought it was a bad game because of the glitches and the software update to fix the glitches was too much to handle and some Assassin's Creed fans thought it was bad too. After buying Assassin's Creed Unity again but this time on PS4, I thought it was well made game with a bigger map, new weapons, and new people to relate to. I personally didn't have any glitch problems with the game when it first came out. So me personally Assassin's Creed Unity is a good game.
Very good game with some issues
January 6, 2015
Now, to start off, I've played every Assassin's Creed game. I love Unity, the story, while having a Cliché ending, and the occasional lag spike or floating NPC(As I've seen in multiple AC titles)it never really took away from the experience of being a complete and total badass.Without spoiling anything Major(or that you won't encounter within the first 15 minutes), Assassin's Creed: Unity, focuses souly on the main protaganist Arno Dorian, without going into the "fututre"(current time)too much as it did in previous titles. As a big fan of the entire "2012 mayan calander and old Roman/Greek gods and Christianity" mixed into the first few games(AC II, I'm looking at you!)the focus on Arno is not one we haven't seen before.Arno's father was killed by, presumably, either a traitor Assassin or a rouge Templar. He is taken in by the Templar Grand master, François de la Serre, and raised as his own. Whilst doing some 'minor' breaking and entering to see François daughter, Élise de la Serre, whom was raised as Arno's adoptive sister.(can't have a good game without a little incest I guess?) He witnesses the murder of his adoptive father, whose murder he is later framed for, and swears to avenge his death. After being thrown into the prison, he meets his fathers old friend, whom then, allows our french Ezio in on all that is going on with the now warring Templars and Assassins, as a new grand master has stepped up to the plate, and is presumably going to strike hard and fast on the Assassins, breaking their peace. Arno escapes, leaves to join the Assassin's, roll intro. Now, as far as Arno as a character goes, like stated previouly, he is pretty much Ezio with a "french"(very English sounding however) accent. He is somewhat likeable and charming, and not nearly as much of a bore as Connor from Assassin's Creed III, but he does lack the initial jerky lovableness of our favorite Assassin. The city of Paris however, is simply stunning. From now enterable houses, to the bustling streets of the slums, to the posh towers of the wealthy, to famous cathedrals like the Notre Dame de Paris. With thousands of NPC's roaming the streets, riots, people fighting randomly, and multiple random incounters to keep you interested for weeks on end, it DEFINITELY has tons of stuff to do.That being said however, the game is for sure not locked at 30 FPS, it's CAPPED at it. Honestly, at some points, I'm sure I could run it better on a 1995 Macintosh than the PS4 can handle it. I'm not sure if it's a problem with the PS4(Which if it is, console gaming has died and I need to upgrade my PC parts)or if it's simply the way it was programed on the disc. As I'm no technilogical expert on this, I'm going to blame the disc for now, unless I get conformation that in only the first full year of it's release, game designers have pushed the PS4 to it's processing limits. The story is meh, and towards the end(particularly after Sequence 7 chapter 3 or 4 were you have this big fight scene) I found the story to be dragging on a bit, and it was not keeping me as interested as I should be. The "main" plot after that seems to almost be about killing one character and the love between Arno and Elise. All and all, I loved the game, and would highly recommend it at it's current price of about 35$. I've posted some pictures down below that I have capture myself, using only the PS4 screen capturing software built into the system(pictures are not edited in any way), just so you may see how magnificent, stunning, and large this game truly is.

which had a cool introduction in the previous game
February 3, 2016
I stopped playing Assassin's Creed for a few years because of the events of AC3, but eventually got back into the swing of it with Black Flag. It expands the sailing part of the story, which had a cool introduction in the previous game, but seems like the game was padded with a lot of sea travel to make it seem bigger (one trophy requires you visit every landmark in the game). Detailed story inside and out of the Animus (You're an Analyst working for Abstergo Entertainment working off of Desmond Miles's recovered materials). Detail to character was my favorite, especially with the protagonist and James Kidd.

This a very fun game. It has plenty of game play and plenty of things to do. I love the mixture of being an assassin and a pirate. You can sink boats, free slaves, fish for whales, find treasure, assassinate people, and so on. It's very fun. BUT.. the one big problem I have with the game is command glitches. There's so much you can do in the game and it seems like the wires get crossed in the process. Climbing and hiding in a hurry can be problematic because of your character messing up or getting stuck. It's very, very frustrating. The game is very fun, but I don't understand how a game this new can have so many problems when it comes to getting your character to do what you want when you want him to. It's worse than the first Infamous's few and far between glitches while climbing, which is even more sad cuz that game was made years ago. I would almost take two stars of because it is so frustrating but, all in all it is a good game
Great PS4 intro game
March 18, 2014
Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag is another solid installment in the series. 4 to 4.5 star is where I put this game. This is the series where I am not real excited to get this game, but I have always been glad I did. The game looks great and runs very smooth. I love slowly walking up to two guards and SLICE! The slicing of the sword and diving off a roof to assassinate a guard are great, especially when the camera slows down just a little. Or hitting a guard with a berserk arrow and watch as they attack each other. One of my favorite ways to take care of guards when you are surrounded is to drop that smoke bomb. You quickly slice them up and move on. The hunting is also a nice change of pace from walking here and there. But I do have some negatives. Getting used to maneuvering the ship can be very frustrating. You turn or accidentally run into a tiny island. You can't back up, obviously, but it does get frustrating. Once you get more comfortable with the ship it does become more fun. I also hate the way he jumps on everything or can't jump up to a short ledge when he can scale a wall in two seconds. On the other hand it is fun when he lands where you want him too. Another negative is when you have to ease drop on some guards and you get caught and have to do it all over again. You sit, walk, sit again and walk closer and you just happen to flinch in the wrong direction, start all over. But overall the pros out weigh the cons. This is a fun game. Taking out a large ship or destroying a large base are great. The graphics look great, the water looks actually like water, the ship has a lot of detail and even the rain looks good. Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag is a great start to the PS4 and gives you a taste of things to come.
Took a hiatus but glad to be back...
February 18, 2014
I played the first couple ACs and enjoyed them but got a little bored with some of the game aspects. Haven't played any until this one (at least 4 years). Here's my take aways:Positives-Graphics are great! Story is pretty damn good...what's not to like about pirates!!! Action packed with sword play, assassinations, boat battles, forts, puzzles, treasure, upgrades, etc. My favorite part by far is the sea action. Battling numerous boats at once or a fort with rogue waves coming in is highly entertaining!!! They really captured the feel and environments with this game.Negatives-There aren't to many negatives but the few in the game are REALLY annoying!!! The tendency for your character to grab on to the most useless ledges, ropes, edges, etc. can get really old. I think this is a function of having the run button also be the grab button (because you run a lot in this game). If they were separate buttons it might work better. You'll be running down an alleyway and if to close to something you'll grab it or climb up it. Same with roof tops, pillars, trees, etc. I think by now they could come up with some smarter interaction AI. Then when you do need to grab something specific he'll either grab the wrong thing or do nothing at all. Perfect example...when finding a treasure chest if you run up to it he'll jump on top and squat down. Completely useless!!!! Things like this shouldn't be in the game. Don't let it be an option to have happen. I know it adds to the "realism" but come on, I want to open the chest, not sit on it. There are lots of these moments in this game. Frustrating. The only other negative is the whole "real world" acts you have to go thru. I know this has been a major part of the story since the beginning, but to make me exit the Animus, talk to a girl, head up the elevator, talk to the CEO, head down to the receptionist, talk to a courier, and head back to my station to continue the REAL game is just a waste of time. This happens to much for me and takes away from the meat of the game....which is being a pirate!!!Final-The game as a whole is well worth the money. So much to find, explore, sail to. It's endless. I purchased this "used like new" thru the market place and couldn't be happier! Highly recommend with the limited launch titles for the PS4.
ARrr.....tharr be pirates!!!
February 8, 2014
I've never been a big fan of the Assassin's Creed series. I've played 1-3 on the xbox and recently tried the newest offering on the Playstation 4. Now while the series has generally been good and enjoyable, I've never really gotten into the games and found myself getting bored once I had unlocked all of my weapons and reached the peak of my ninja powers. I still haven't finished a single Assassin's Creed in the series; including this one.But this one is different. Pirates! Yes! Pirates vs Ninjas! ARrrrrr!I've only progressed about halfway through the storyline so far and I've already almost maxxed out my pirate ship and fleet. It's just.....so much damn fun. The only thing I can think of to make it better would be the addition of a few more realistic pirate elements like Rhum, scurvy, bad teeth, hygiene, and various genital forget-me-nots that should be unlockable in various ports of ill-repute.I've always been a fan of the Create Your Own Story type games (*cough* Skyrim *cough*) so I generally find contrived storylines that I am Required to follow (often kicking and screaming) less-than engaging. But the storyline here is entertaining enough and can be set aside indefinitely for extended periods of swashbuckling and pirate wenching.I hear that Ubisoft is sending out feelers to gauge the interest of a fully pirate-themed game and I will definitely be hopping on board that termite-infested, land-loving, chicken-of-the sea adventure. The Good:ARRrrGh! Pirates! AND NinjaS! ZOMG!Sea combat is well done and very entertaining. It's like going from Sid Meyer's Pirates in crayon to the modern day with 3D modeling and epic explosion time. The story is decent enough to keep you engaged and plugging along the main story line and can be parlayed in favor of pirating if one chooses. Graphics are quite good. The Bad:Assassin's Creed is still Assassin's Creed. Poor pathfinding and physics have been the bane of the acrobatic ninja for the life of this series and this title still suffers at times from random acts of death caused by the engine not picking up your intended momentum, intent, or direction. On the plus side, an epic fall to your death is rendered in wonderful detail on the Playstation 4.The Ugly:This may not be the game of the year, but it's definitely a good game for right now. Well worth the entertainment value especially if you can get lucky enough to pick this game up when it goes on sale. It may grow stale and repetitive after a while similar to previous offerings, but the added dimension of naval combat helps keep this game fresher for much longer.I haven't even played multiplayer yet. Going to have to shiver someone else's timbers eventually me maties! ArrrrrGh!
The update changed the game
November 19, 2013
Edit - I had first rated this 5 stars but upon playing it again a year later i noticed a bunch of major flaws since the new patches. The AI during combat is glitchy, combat is glitchy itself and so is Edward's actions during combat (Edward will temporarily refuse to reload guns if enemy is approaching from afar, Edward will temporarily refuse to climb buildings if shot or stabbed prior, . Jumping from houses to trees or different obstacles is now a guessing game whether or not you'll fall to your death. The minigames are now almost impossible to beat and have 0 fun value. Everything has changed.I would like to point out a few things that make this game amazing and some points that I think ubisoft should work on.1- the graphics in this game are so pleasant to the eyes that you sometimes get the feeling that you're actually in the Caribbean. By the way the water flows and glows is breathtaking just to look at.2- the game play is amazing and so is the storyline..although there's like 5 things going on at the same time its difficult to keep track of what's going on so you need to stay focused and actually pay close attention to the cinematic and there's a lot to read also.3- the games longetivity is also amazing. There's so many things to do and so many locations.t this game will keep me playing for weeks4- the soundtracks in the game are beautiful5- everything you do in the game results in something else ..for example...if you like to hunt and gather alot of skin and bones from animals..that will give you material to make things like holsters and darts which will become necessary in many missions...attacking ships will give you a wanted level which will make hunter ships hunt for you...6- the map is so massiveI think there's a few things that ubisoft can work on1- there are some glitches in the game but nothing major like -it rains inside your compound when you approach the door but when you walk in there's no rain - when you kill guards in the water they jump up then float on top of the water -2- there should be more weapons in the game..there are only enough that you can count on one hand..3- when you upgrade your sword..it makes little difference in the combat and damage you do4- when picking up rifles or any enemy weapon Edward keeps dropping it at any action you do ( for instance if I'm picking up a rifle from the ground and I need to get high up on a rooftop to get a nice sniper position, you get up on the rooftop but Edward throws the rifle away)

It's NOT as bad as people say AT ALL!!
September 26, 2017
Ok look, it's NOT as bad as the reviews make it seem like. Glitches and bugs? Yes there were plenty, but the update completely fixes it! Combat sucks? I don't see that at all. I actually thought it's a nice improvement with all the new moves, and they made the fight more realistic as well. And let's face it, that finishing stab is the coolest I've seen since Revelations. Storyline? I thought it's pretty engaging, especially with the adorable girlfriend (not trying to spoil anything), maybe still a little cliche (cuz it's always that revenge story), but that doesn't take away the fun. And let's face it, the graphics is just hands down amazing!! The amount of details, the scenery, the people and everything, is just amazing. Great job Ubisoft.BUT of course it's not perfect. My problem with it, however, is the fact that LITERALLY EVERY MISSION IS THE SAME. Basically, every single mission is to "infiltrate this place and kill that person." It gets so boring after like 10 of those!!But overall I thought it's a pretty decent game, and definitely lived up to the AC standard. I admit that I don't really give a sh*t about the protagonist Arno, but just for gaming purpose he's just as fun to play as our favorite Ezio!!
Fun game.
December 6, 2015
I bought this a little while back for like $10 and thought I might as well give it a go. It has a fairly substantial update when you install it, but I'd say that is pretty necessary as it seems to have eliminated all the issues famously attributed to this game. Yes, it does have the occasional screen tearing and the weirdly out of place death poses and similar somewhat funny occurences, but it actually runs quite smoothly and looks fantastic. This is a truly beautiful game that really brings Revolutionary period Frnace to life. The gameplay is pretty consistent with other Assassins Creed games. I see the product description mentions new parkour stuff and such, but I havent really noticed anything that really makes it stand out in this department. You still will get stuck on a wall or annoyingly jump on a wall when you are really just trying to run away from a guard or something. Overall, I cant say I see any difference between this and Black Flag as far as the core gameplay elements are concerned. There are maybe some new assassination animations though (I cant really remember if some of them were in previous games or not), and they do look super cool. The story is fairly engaging. I wouldnt say it comes close to some of the other stories in the series, but it is decent. I do however think that Arno is one of the cooler assassins. The upgrade system is standard fare. I like this system, so no complaints there. The world itself is also standard UbiSoft open world fare. Free districts, find observation points, plenty of chests and stuff, etc...it's the same old same old if you've played any other Assassins Creed, Far Cry, and so on. I actually find this system to have reached its potential already though am a little bored of it. I find myself not really caring about finding all the chests and collectibles. If I happen to be near one, I will seek it out, but otherwise, I find it to be essentially useless clutter. I also dont find a lot of the side stuff like The Paris Stories and the murder investigations to be too compelling either. It certainly adds length to the game if you try to finish them all up, but again, nothing too compelling IMO.The co-op missions are probably the coolest things about this game. It really adds another element that also adds incredible depth to this game. Super cool.I do feel that the tutorials are pretty cheesy. They try to incorporate them into the game by having NPC's lead you through them, but they felt kind of silly. All told, despite the rehashing of a lot of stuff, and the YMMV side missions and collectible hunts, this game is actually pretty good and can, if you fully explore everything and play all the co-op missions, give you a solid 60+ hours of quality game play, which, for a title that can be had for less than $20 these days, is quite stellar value for your dollar. I've enjoyed the game.
You have to love it to spend all the time to finish it
July 4, 2015
If you have a couple months to play out all the little side errands and all the running around, then great. Takes really really long to complete AND a lot of the things you have to collect aren't shown on the map, you either have to be running around in that area for it to show up on the map or buy Helix credits and purchase the map cheats aka time saver pack. Generally I love the graphics, smooth controls, great running and parkour . The Helix credits to buy weapons kind of flattens out the game early since you can just buy the best weapons rather than facing the challenge of fighting with the inferior weapons and buy as you earn more, I probably should have stayed away from the Helix credits options. then again the game would have taken twice as long as it already is. Generally many more pluses than minuses, it's my go to game to clear my head at the end of a long day, still challenging. The multiplayer co-op missions work really well, sometimes though by having to run around to get Creed points during the Co-op missions pisses off the gamers who are playing through the main mission since I can't always help them while I'm trying to get the other things collected. But the multiplayer is amazing in how responsive and seamless it is. Patiently waiting for Syndicate later this year.
Don't Listen to the Critics
April 15, 2015
I am an avid AC fan, and have been playing the series since the first. I will admit that I let the initial reviews cloud my decision on purchasing the game. The combination of drop in the game price and patches released by Ubisoft changed my mind. You know what? It's a great game. It has a large map and plenty of side quests. Yes, the load time is a bit slow, and I didn't care for the fact that in order to gain more skill points...It requires online multiplayer involvement. But that's simply forgettable by the engrossing storyline of Arno. It brought me back to the enjoyment felt when playing through Ezio's storyline. I am a sucker for a good storyline.
Flawed but worth playing
February 27, 2015
A good game but doesn't rope you in like AC4 black flag. Paris is beautiful but the world is deadlier and the movement and combat is sticky. You can no longer use NPC's as human shields when someone is shooting at you, so whenever you are being shot at by multiple guys you will very likely die. The emphasis on the companion app and the micro-transactions add a really slimy gimmicky feel to the game but both can be ignored. As flawed as this game is, it's still worth playing and takes the assassins creed franchise in a new direction. Hopefully the games that follow this will be better but it's worth exploring the vast city of paris.
Truly next-gen graphics, very enjoyable as few bugs are noticeable now
December 20, 2014
Well, I was skeptical when I bought this game. So many negative reviews with so many similar concerns. That seemed like a dead-ringer for a dud. But Amazon put it on-sale at a price I couldn't ignore, so I decided to give it a try. I've played Assassin's Creed since the 2nd release, all on the PS3. This is one of my first PS4 games since recently buying the console. So how's the game now (Dec. 2014)?Well, I first made sure the PS4 downloaded any updates waiting for Unity. After all, it sounded like most of the issues were bugs in earlier versions. The update was huge but worth it, as I don't notice many of the issues complained about. So what are my thoughts?I played Assassin's Creed Rogue on PS3 before buying this game. My first impression was how I really liked how they tied in story parts and characters from Rogue into Unity early on. That was genius (I won't spoil it for folks). My second impression was, "wow". Graphics are insanely detailed in Unity on PS4...and there are tons of people on the streets of Paris...all seemingly having their own animations. Feels very realistic, gritty, dirty...truly Paris of the time.At first it seemed...geez, it doesn't seem like I have a lot to do. There were very few chests to open and not much else (some chests required some sort of extra purchase which I refuse to do...that did irk me and caused Unity to lose a star. I hate in-app purchases when a game is so pricey).Once you get through the first two sequences, WOW. the map becomes full of things to do. Tons. I have to filter the map to only see certain things at times. Paris is huge. I'm now earning money and able to equip myself more appropriately (early on, you'll get your butt kicked if you pick too many fights). The game was sluggish a few times (yea, even on a PS4) but very rarely was the frame rate an issue. Unity really pushes the PS4, so I don't blame the game developers here. The game did freeze once, but my character hasn't gotten stuck anywhere in the game (although it sometimes feels like it when the streets are so crowded with rioting people!).Overall, I think many of the bugs that caused so many upset gamers have been squashed. You don't have to pay 1 cent more to get lots of game play out of Unity. Your player does start with absolutely nothing (pre-assassin) which is refreshing. I expect to be playing this game for quite some time.

This game might have to walk the plank
August 10, 2016
Pretty good game but could have been better. You are invincible from the start and when you go out to sea (with your own ship) you can become virtually invincible at sea in 3 hours of playing. Once you realize this the game goes from 5/5 to 3/5. Game has worst Multiplayer of all Assassin creeds due to no innovation and increased complexity.
it's the same game that the last 3-4 were...but now with pirates! Stop with the formulaic releases, I want innovation!
March 23, 2016
It's the same game, but with clunky boat battles and not as interesting as I wanted them to be pirates. They can change the scenery, but it's still the same damned game over and over...and over...I gave it 3 stars instead of 2 because if it was the first AC game I played, I would've loved it - but that's likely to not be the case for the majority of people.

February 24, 2015
This was my 2nd assassin's creed game, and truthfully I had fun, even when I beat it there seemed to be a whole splew of things you had to do. However there are a few annoying issues like boring missons, okay-ish multiplayer, and tedious grinding to upgrade your ship, but the game is fun.
If you have for Ps3 or 360, No need to get for the PS4
December 18, 2014
Played this game on 360 and then bought Cheap once I got my PS4.. Graffics look exactly the same on my 1080p TV.. My TV actually seems to show more issues with games CONVERTED for the new systems VS games actually made for the PS4. Great game tho my FAVORITE Assasins Game
Decent
March 23, 2014
I would give this game a 4 or even 5 star if it were next-gen only, but I forgot it was Ubisoft. The gameplay is well improved on Ac3 and the water combat is very enticing. However, it does have basically the same side quests, and the main plot follows conspiracies as usual. If you have a console (current gen) and are looking for one of the few games to choose from, this is worthy if you haven't played it on last gen consoles.

Technical disaster
June 2, 2017
Can't say much that hasn't already been said. This game had tons of potential but was a complete disaster technically. Even a year after being released this game was still so buggy it was almost unplayable. Too bad because graphically it was phenomenal.
more of the same
January 18, 2017
i've played & owned every AC game since 2...i keep buying them even though most of them are the same thing over and over again. i keep falling for this trap. unity was glitchy, they patched it and for the most part it runs smooth. the frame rate suffers every once in a while like all AC games. the story/gameplay in this one is not very interesting...i never finished it.
Eh, Ok. Don't buy it new.
April 4, 2015
Honest review. Have played creed 1,2, and Black Flag. Now this. While I don't seem to hate this as much as lots of people seem to, I just cannot said it's good. There is so much CRAP to deal with. Bugs, and poor gameplay, poor cameras, poor levels, just poor. I love running and jumping around. One of my favorite parts of LOTS of games is climbing towers and looking around at the game. For that it's great. For just running and playing, not bad. I would say if you want to play an ACREED, and have played your fill of the others, try this. Since it's only like 20 now. I would not buy it new (I did I believe when it was 29.99, kinda worth it), because they don't deserve more money, that's for sure. Under 20 and can fill up 5-10 hours before you hate it. Movies cost like 12 dollars for 2+ hours. I would say under 20 this is worth it from a used vendor. AND DON'T DO IN GAME PURCHASES! We need to kill that from legitimate video game makers.
Not as good as Black Flag, but it is still a good game.
January 24, 2015
Solid gameplay. Really disappointed with all the options to buy upgrades and extra missions. Initiates website down which means you can't use all the features. Companion app needed to complete all trophies. The app does not add to the game like the one for Black Flag one. Has to be supervised entirely too much. Much of the games options require the user to play multiplayer. Some of us don't like multiplayer. You should be able to get all the trophies for the game to get 100% Sync as a single player. Or break it into Multi-Player and Single-Player trophies. And you should be able to get all the rewards in single player. Companion App and PlayStation liked well at first but lately it has not worked well at all. Character gets hung up quite a bit doing basic things in the game. Some of the challenges are just silly such as the Rift missions. Worth playing, but disappointing after having played Black Flag and loved it so much. Also, what happened to calling in other assassins from Brotherhood and Revelations? That was cool and having the other assassins made sense. That would have made a great thing for an app to handing when they were on their missions.
Ok - Some good additions but also took a lot away
January 5, 2015
Ok, so I have played almost all of the AC Series (1, 2, 3, Brotherhood, Revelation, Blackflag) and the first 15% of Unity. This game has some great attributes and new features but also has the same problems that all of the games with the exception of AC 2 had to some extent (AC 2 was by far the best game in the series, and in my opinion one of the best games for PS3, period)Pros:Stealth seems more important in this game, where as in AC 3, Blackflag, Revelation was not as critical. The customization of your assassin is coolThe variety of weapons and styles you can fight with is interestingThe missions seems to be pretty open so far which is a step in the right direction. In the releases since AC 2 (especially Brotherhood which was the biggest offender in this regard), each mission really forced into doing it one way, i.e. following someone, stalking someone on a set path, etc.)Cons:Buggy! Even with the updates, takes you 45 minutes to get into a window. And you stab air when fighting someone.Story-Ok, maybe I am the only who feels this way, but the amount of side missions is too much. What made AC 2 so compelling is it weaved together multiple main mission story lines (and maybe unity does this later in the game which I haven't got to it yet), so that there were different types of missions and characters that kept you engaged and kept the game dynamic. In Unity, as Arno, why am I investigating a crime? To get a weapon? Is that really the reward? The French Revolution is going on, so I am just going to take time away from my assigned target which of course has to be taken out immediately to investigate a crime? Really? Its not that the concept of the side missions is bad, the assassins contracts, temples, etc. in previous games were fun distractions, but they at least made a little sense. This same pace of the Storyline/Side Mission issue is what has plagued all the games since AC 2, with AC 3 obviously the worst. I do give a pass to Blackflag because the slower paced storyline worked well with Edward doing pirate side mission stuff.Fighting - I understand the upside of the new system, but it seems to me they just scrapped what they had been developing over the past 4 games for no reason. Again, this is my opinion, but one of the things that made the series so enjoyable is that it was a little bit easy. Your character is supposed to be awesome, you are an Assassin, some lowly guard is going to kill you? No.The new system is more challenging and you have to plan your attacks and battles more strategically which I like (unless you get the six barrel pistol and quick shot everyone in about 4 seconds). But, its just not as smooth. Features like the multi-weapon kills, cinematic double counters, throwing and picking up weapons, the disarm, the sand throw, the grab and throw, seem to be missing. I think the game can still be about stealth, and strategy, but also have these combat features.Ok, I will wrap this review up as its getting pretty long. In conclusion, the game is ok. The graphics are very good, and when the navigation is working it can be quite incredible moving through the city. The feel of the game seems to be getting back to 1 and 2 with more stealth, open missions etc. But, the non-sensical (although sometimes fun to play) side missions, less enjoyable combat system and of course the bugs take away from the experience. I would not pay full price for this one, look for a used copy or a deal.
Not the best, but fairly pleasent.

Going into Unity, it is pretty clear that it is the inferior variation of the two that were recently released, with Rogue being the best. What is more unfortunate is that Unity is a next generation title, and Rogue... not so much. But this is a review of Unity and my personal thoughts. In some ways it is also a second review, with me going deeper into the game.Multiplayer: Tried it and hated it. UbiSoft should have focused more on single player then they focused on multiplayer. It isn't that it's terrible in theory, but Unity's online components detract from the game's overall value. If that isn't the worst of it all, these club competitions are required to unlock the best pieces of equipment. To me, whenever I see an Assassin's Creed, I should have to search the seven corners of the game to unlock them in single player, not multiplayer. This wouldn't be so bad, if Ubisoft would release some kind of single player equivalent of armors that you have to play co-op and club competitions to unlock. Fortunately, there are a few sets of armor that are decent and require no online interaction.World Map: There are so many things to talk about, but the first and most important thing that I need to cover is the game's world map. Unlike in the previous games, the world map is all together, rather then seperated into individual zones. But to me, this just doesn't work out all that much. To make matters worse, the architecture is a nightmare to navigate through and over. With as big as the map is, I have to wonder if Unity's multiplayer component would have worked better for Rogue. The Protagonist: Once again UbiSoft created an assassin with a spiderman fetish. The worst part of it is that it just doesn't work, it never works. Which is probably why I liked Black Flag out of the games of this franchise that I have actually played. Arno sticks to everything and if that wasn't the worst part, the poor usage of camera and lighting would certainly tie in first place. When you put these three together, Arno becomes insanely annoying to control and manuever sometimes. Getting him to descend off of the ledge of a building takes far too much effort then I am willing to give for something that should be insanely easy. The controls don't make this any better either. When it comes to story, I can honestly say that Conner was more enjoyable, with Arno being nothing more then an idiot.New Content: Black Flag worked so well as an Assassin's Creed sequal. The assassinations were great, it was relatively simple and use of the firearms was a real blast. I cannot say that with Unity however. All of this goes into my complaints about Arno being difficult to control. If this were Black Flag, I could air assassinate someone, but it doesn't feel like it in Unity, not one bit. It feels like there is too much going on with Unity. Now, with that said, there are some additions that I actually like. The phantom blade, the newest hidden blade created by the assassins. A hidden blade with a crossbow built into it that launches blades of varying types at your enemies. In many ways, it is easily far more fun then firearms are, especially since the targeting reticle for the firearms is nothing more then a tiny white dot. It feels so pointless sometimes to have a firearm. To make matters worse, they nerfed eagle vision severely. In addition to all of these, they have these real life obsticle courses that you have to navigate your avatar through that are called bridges. The problem being that bridges use the dark tunnels that I am complaining about.Navigation: Navigation was far worse in Unity, then it was for Assassin's Creed II, and that says alot sometimes. The underground pathways are dark and barely possible to navigate, especially if you are visually impaired like me. With that said, they did something in this game that I actually like. They made it possible to enter some of the buildings, which is incredibly nice. What UbiSoft did in ruining your Unity experience, they made up for in other ways. So if you like to explore and collect things, then the nightmarish architecture and the beautiful scenery will have you wanting more no doubt. Conclusion: In conclusion, there may be so much that is wrong with Unity, but the game makes up for it in ways that are beyond compare. The fact that outfits and armor are now seperate, thus allowing you to use Ezio's outfit, while having the best equipment imaginable. Exploration and your new home, it is just really pleasent. A shame that they had taken out a few things that I actually liked in Black Flag and Assassin's Creed 2, like the prostitutes that you can use to distract the guards. So, what am I saying? If you want a new game for your playstation 4 to play, then Unity isn't half bad for that purpose.

Dis-Unity for Me!
March 21, 2016
Assassin's Creed was a great gaming series through Revelations. After that they went downhill so badly and have so many bugs and glitches. This game was very disappointing overall---not good gaming controls. It was almost painful playing through it. I had to take many breaks from the frustration of the controls and glitches. And yes, I could quit---but I bought it so I played it. I hear the newer one--Assassin's Creed Syndicate goes back to the original format. Sure hope so. Assassin's Creed was what sold me on the ps3 back when. Sorry, I can't recommend this one for those of you who have played the first Assassin Creed games and loved their game controls.
Not impressed with this game on ps4
August 23, 2015
Just started with the game but it's already super frustrating. Frame rate sucks - even on my ps4!!! Not something I expected from a console game. Stutters a lot while playing and doesn't feel responsive. Several times it's crashed mid game and I have to kill the app and re-run. I've downloaded all updates avail for it and fully expected any issues would be fixed since this isn't a just released title. No joy. Very disappointed.Game play wise it suffers from the typical issues AC games have - I end up running up buildings and posts when I don't want to. Trying to move outside of cover mode means I have to stand up fully making it so that I often get spotted. They no longer reveal all items in an area when you synchronize a viewpoint. Lots more random wandering around if I want to complete all tasks.I loved AC black flag - this one is pathetic compared to that.
Unity does get a few things right, but it's a Series Low
July 17, 2015
Two steps forward… Five giant leaps backward.Pros:- Flat out gorgeous- Many, many citizens- Paris is beautiful- Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood was the pinnacle of the series in my opinion (Black flag is not an assassin’s creed game but if you throw it in it’s the best in the series). Unity tries to recreate the stealth missions that have since been lost in subsequent titles. But it fails because once you are discovered you have to fight your way to the end of a mission.- It is harder than most assassin’s creed games- It cost $19.99- I played it after the glitches were fixed.Cons (Story Spoiler… but you won’t care):- The story is awful. You are a modern day assassin fronting as a tester who works for abstergo. You take over the protagonist assassin (Arno) and are looking for a bad guy’s resting place because it might lead to a piece of eden? I think. Well you kill the main bad guy in the end and you find out that he doesn’t have the piece of eden you were looking. But at least its one lead down you can scratch off the list… It’s so dumb. The main Assassin’s creed storyline (aliens, pieces of eden is not there)- The parkour is bad and broken. I spent so much time just trying to get into a window.- The collectibles were locked by a companion phone app. This concept worked for Far Cry 4, but was a total fail in this game.- Where are the dungeons? These used to be one of my favorite parts of the assassin’s creed series. In this game you get to track down 18 riddles. Each riddle has 3 parts and you have to track down each symbol. It was so confusing, I ended up cheating and just looking online for the answers as I think only a very few Good Will Hunting types could figure them out. You get a special outfit at the end that sucks.- I couldn’t wait for it to be over.Although I loved Black flag, Unity is more of an Assassin’s Creed game than its predecessor. Unity does get a few things right, but it’s a series low.
Incredible graphics, but controls can be frustratingly uncooperative and the gameplay very buggy, even after being "fixed".
May 10, 2015
I waited until reports started coming in saying this game had been fixed, before buying. As of the date of this review, while the game may not be completely broken, it's still buggy as all getout. It would seem that the game is just too ambitious for it's developers, which it is a VERY large open world game with lots to explore. But unlike most RPGs, the graphics aren't held back by the immensity of the maps. In fact, having only played a little over half a dozen PS4 games so far, this game sports the best graphics I've seen from any game to date - a serious step up from the last AC game I played on PS3, Black Flag and all the ones before it. Though, unlike the other PS4 games I've played, or even the two PS3 ports (Tomb Raider, Last of Us), this game loads as slow as the PS3 generation did.I won't be too hard on it for slow loading, but in the time it took to play through the main story, the game knocked out twice with errors needing to be reported to playstation. None of the other PS4 games I've played have done that. When it happens, you lose all progress in whatever quest or mission you were playing, but at least with the PS4 the entire console doesn't freeze up as it would with games like Skyrim when a game developer was similarly negligent in properly testing their games before release on the PS3.Aside from the two major game errors, I've had to quit the game myself several other times due to the character getting stuck and not being able to move regardless of what I did. Once another game character I was supposed to be following even got stuck, but throwing a cherry bomb at their feet did the trick, allowing me to continue on with the mission, rather than restarting it when I was over halfway through. One last gripe I have is with the games propensity for climbing, it want's to climb on everything!, people, furniture, you name it, if there is anything in the area to hang on your character will naturally gravitate toward it: Try running up a stairway and you'll end up jumping on and slowly climbing up the bannister rail or something like a monkey hanging on the wall, which is especially annoying when you're trying to evade an unending battalion of soldiers that the game inexplicably throws at you from time to time. But try to climb through a window and you'll end up climbing over it or just hanging there being shot, even when you use the games own, rather awkward, window entering technique (press L2), which doesn't seem to work most of the time, despite entering windows being a very routine thing you'll do a few dozen times in an hour.Oh well, the graphics are GREAT. But if Ubisoft tries floating another game by as unpolished or even as unfinished as this, I might have to abandon the franchise, as I can't afford to take out my frustrations with the game on $60 controllers, nor do I enjoy being annoyed by my entertainment. Really glad that RockSteady has delayed the next Batman game twice now, if it means most of the kinks will be worked out. Ubisoft needs to be taking notes.
as wonderful of an idea as it was
November 25, 2014
If you must own this game, do yourself a favor and wait for more patches. Patchthree is rolling out this week (the week of my review) and according to Ubisoft, they have already started on patch 4. That's four patches that probably won'thave the issues fixed any time soon.Sure, it's a very aesthetically pleasing game, with a lot of immersion intohistory, but the revolution, as wonderful of an idea as it was, is nothing morethan a backdrop for missions and locations. This isn't like AC3 where you're seriously involved and helping anyone, rather, you're only here for the revenge. Your character couldn't care less about theplight of the people, or the way everything is turning out, just aiming to takeout a few Templars who happen to be mixed up in the revolution. The story isn't anywhere as in depth as in AC4 where you ascend to the rank ofassassin through tough personal reflection and self realization. With the romance between Templar and assassin being touted as creating a veryinteresting story line, Ubisoft missed the mark by miles. There could have beena lot of complicated emotions here, but none exist. There could have been aserious concern for the people of the revolution, but there was very little. The story itself is decently boring. The co-op missions are also boring becausethey're the same. In previous multiplier, the layout of the land was similar, the tools were similar, but you were fighting other players and they offered anew experience almost every time. So far, co-op is doing the same boringmission but just with different people (or by yourself if you dare).Ubisoft notes in several places that a club competition is coming. Noindication of when. Nothing about how it's going to work either. In fact, there issome "decent" gear that I would really enjoy trying out but it's still lockeddue to lack of this competition.
The worst Assassin's Creed to date...
November 14, 2014
I, like so many others, was looking forward to this game for many months. Black Flag is my favorite AC next to the Ezio series, and Unity being next gen, I thought, "What could be better?"People, I don't know how in the hell IGN rated this game a 7.8 or 7.9. I played through the first hour of the game and it was glitch after glitch and choppy framerates. It reminded me so much of the old splinter cell titles on PS2. I even wondered if something was wrong with my PS4.I am a huge fan of the series. This has been a disappointment for me. I think what really topped the cake for me was the option to spend more real money in game to unlock items, events, etc.I hope a patch fixes the bug issues. I hope Ubisoft learned their lesson.

July 25, 2017
Assassins Creed, it is time for you to be put down. You had your many chances to be a good gaming franchise, but time to just vie up. The game play mechanics are very uninspiring and just rehashed. While I will give credit to the co-op, the AI just is not very impressive, and it felt like I was creeping on child like buffoons. What is even more silly, was Ubisoft comments about the "downgrade". The game looks good at times, and at other times resembles a ported ps3/xbox 360 game. The characters are not really memorable, and are just bland personality wise. I will give credit for it being set in the French Revolution, but that's all. Overall this game sucks, and I am glad I did not spend 60 bones on this junk, Sadly one of my friends had to suffer by buying this atrocity.
Found a way to remove all the fun from an AC game.
January 23, 2016
Everything about this game is horrible. It is bloated and joyless. The controls are the worst yet in an AC game. The 'context sensitive' running is just an abomination. The entire game you will feel you are fighting the controls. The combat is a step back. Two steps back. Three steps back. In fact, it is the worst combat in *any* AC game. Even AC1 had better combat, and the combat in that game was atrociously bad. Gone is the fluid exciting combat of AC2, 3, and 4. The combat here is a long, tedious, boring, slog.I couldn't believe how terrible the 'The Tournament' mission was. It decides to introduce 'timed parkour'. But the controls in this game, particularly when trying to run and be precise, and make jumps at specific objects near other jump able objects, are abysmally bad.Whoever decided to implement the sewers in this game should be fired. The AC games are about the joy of the fluid, limitless, high speed rooftop traversal of exciting locations- mixed in with a judicious amount of assassinations. The underground sewers and tunnels in Unity are colossol, joyless disaster on every possible level. Cramped, dreary, empty, drab, and samey, the rob the series of everything that makes it fun. It's an arbitrary maze in a game with no map, full of dead ends. Every moment spent in the sewers, whether in a mission or chasing down far too many collectibles, is an unenjoyable slog.
One of my favorite game franchises, disaster of a game 2/14/2015

First off, I waited to get this game since I usually wait to pay about half price but also because of the amount of problems that people said were there at launch so this review is after a lot of the launch problems were gone or at least should be gone. The good parts of this game are the story, the architecture is pretty awesome, and the main character is likeable which has been the case in all except AC3, but other than that the game is a disappointment with nothing new, a lot of problems, and a lot of old aspects of previous games not included.Problems:1) The movement is glitchy.......and even when it doesn't glitch for the amount of running that you will do the movements are slow and labored......A faster movement system even if it is unrealistic is preferable than a slow one with unresponsive controls2) Combat glitches....variety of them including none of the buttons responding3) Disjointed side missions.......No continuity, each side mission is it's own quick mission that is easy, mostly negligible rewards, and most of the time can't hear or don't care what the point is......Really no point to do any of these unless you really need to get money which is easier to get by upgrading the base4) Co-op Play.......If you don't have PS plus than you can't upgrade Arno all the way (I do have PS plus) as you need to play these missions to get him fully upgraded........Forces you to play with other people instead of letting you play a normal single player campaign.....Basically these are the missions that should have been single player side missions in the game5) You don't get to build a network of assassins to send out on contracts or missions which wasn't a great part of the other games that used this but is something that could be really cool if they made it more detailed and improved.......and it was at least somewhat interesting to have in the old games that had it6) Micro-paying scam........not going to do it myself but just the fact that it is in the game is annoying........not rationale but I know other people who feel the same way about buying a game and than being asked to pay more into it, on top of the DLC if somebody chooses to buy that also7) Numerous and long load times.......self explanatory but get ready to wait8) Chests and Cockades........many of them with very little reason to collect9) Enigmas.........These are nowhere near as fun as the Templar vaults or whatever they were called in the Ezio games (I think they were in the second Ezio Assassin Creed game).........Pretty much collect vague clues and try to remember what buildings are what or search the cluttered map for a name and click eagle vision and wait for the cool down to finish10) Vantage points...They made these more interesting at some point in the series where some were/attached to Templar bases, again something that should be expanded on instead of thrown away*****11) Your are in the French Revolution????.......Literally very little has happened to coincide with the historical even, I am on sequence 8 of 12 so maybe something later in the game makes the connection, but this late in the game and it has very little impact on the game........I had the same problem with the AC3 as you pick the setting and than your character is doing his own thing instead of making him influence the history etc etcLike I said I like the story and am pretty much just playing the main missions now, but so much of this game is glitchy, simply bad, and missing so much that it could have included
An Absolute Shame
January 27, 2015
I have never been as disappointed with a purchase as I was with this one. Because of the bad reviews (which seemed to be toward glitches and other Beta issues), I waited two months to buy it, thinking Ubisoft would release enough patches to clear up the issues... but, apparently, there were so many issues, they couldn't release them fast enough, because this game sucks. The fighting is atrocious and the parkour is awful. The graphics and finally being able to see the inside of the buildings is fantastic. For that, I would give the designers five stars. But, that stuff doesn't make a playable game. It makes a pretty one, but not a playable one. I couldn't figure out even the easiest moves (like how to use the smoke bomb or how to defend myself or how to not grab everything I didn't want to grab). Like I said, the game play is horrid - even two months after release.Maybe I should've waited a year?Or, maybe I shouldn't have bought it at all.Either way, Ubisoft, Unity is an absolute shame.
This is the worst game since Assassins Creed III
January 16, 2015
This is the worst game since Assassins Creed III. Actually, I would say these two are the ONLY two bad games. But this one, for being this first "next generation console exclusive" title, is the worst way of introducing what you have planned for the future. The game lacks a good story, lacks a good back (side) story. The graphics are WAY under par for a Next Gen Console Game. The gameplay backtracked about 10 years to robotic, NOT smooth gameplay. The riddles are either too simple or too difficult. The assassination missions are just boring, and without point. You could literally go guns blazing every time, and beat the game no problem. It has not sense of suspense. And is as flat as they come. This game is like an Assassin's Creed game made by a 10 year old who "really likes" the franchise, but obviously has NO idea how to make a game. And the ideas that he does have for the game are really not good. They might sound good on paper, and to the rest of his 10 year olds clan. But not for a game for Mature Audiences.Don't even BOTHER playing this, even as a rental. COMPLETE waste of time.

AC Unity is true next-gen. In fact, it is SO next-gen that it isn't even finished yet! I like to be on the cutting edge and I appreciate that Ubisoft is making games that it is still making, even weeks after you've beaten them.I also love the forced integration with an app as well as a website. How that works is that you sign in with your uplay account to experience so many error messages that last gen could never display on screen at one time. The game itself (no spoilers) centers around Arno, an Assasin in search of locked chests that require a cell phone game with micro transactions to open. You level him up by "hacking" into your bank account to drain real money at 60 FPS. The rest of the game runs at a solid 12 FPS which is TWICE as cinematic as a movie... No small feat! Once you've completed "playing" a website on your computer, Arno is finally ready to fall through the ground and enter a white abyss... The core challenge of the game, these moments where you simply fall into the sky that accurately existed under 1700's Paris, are some of the most nail-biting moments in any game ever made... Will the game crash? Will you have to hard reset your console? Results are random, so it will always be a surprise! Many people just won't "get" this evolution of Assassin's Creed and should spend their time opening up a history book instead. It is there they could read up on Paris' floating people and long battle with pop-in. Even today, many Parisians only exist after you've already walked past them. It is these small details that Ubisoft has nailed and they deserve applause with tons of random audio pops just as you'd hear in the game's cinematics. After playing this gem, I've decided to fly to Montreal tomorrow to begin playing 2018's Assassin's Creed 9. Unity's only shortcoming was that it was a little TOO finished, so I am hoping the Ubisoft guys will let me plug my controller into a broken vending machine in their studio that simply eats dollars that I put into it without delivering.Update: Ubisoft has mentioned that they will be issuing a patch that may "fix" some of these historically accurate non-issues. For this reason, I have lowered my score to 1 star. If I wanted to play a game that was finished, I would not have purchased a Ubisoft game on day one. Boo to Ubisoft, we expect less of you.
