Great filters
April 8, 2016
I bought a Pur water filter and of course, needed refills. I've been impressed with how long these last. The sticker these come with estimate about a months worth of usage, which is pretty accurate with regular usage. I felt the price was very reasonable for the number of filters I got. Set up is easy but I'm sure to follow the directions, especially not using hot water when refilling.

They make a significant difference in the water taste and quality, placebo I think not. I will be buying these again when I need to refill my filters. I also bought the larger pur water filter which fits great in my fridge - long and narrow so as to not take up too much space but still holds a lot of water so it doesn't need to be refilled once a day.
Greatest investment yet
October 1, 2015
Greatest investment yet. Our Brita filter, on the faucet, was super expensive to change and the section where the water came from was constantly defiled by this goopy mess of mold. I saw this gem and bought it. Immediately I could tell a difference and the water was so much better if this filter. Plus, it's in the fridge, ice cold.

Along with this I bought the 4 pack of filters, just to do it, your gonna need them anyway. I have the same filter in for 3 months now. They suggest you change them every 2. I wanna squeeze as much life out of them as I can.

Once in awhile you will need to take the filter out and shake it or run it under water to knock it loose again. You'll know when to do this when the water takes forever to filter through. Easy to use and awesome product!
A great waer filter. They don't last quite as long as Pur says they should. They are definitely worth the cost.

I finally took my doctor's advice and got rid of the diet soda and changed to water. I did a little research and found the reviews put Pur a nose or two above the competition. The difference between the taste AND SMELL of filtered water vs. tap is amazing. I went about a week drinking tap water and was ready to go back to soda. I went out and bought the 18 cup dispenser. I like the fact that it sits in my refrigerator and all I need do is hit the tap to pour water into my glass. For me it that is more convenient that a pitcher. I see someone wrote that Pur no longer sends the little calendar wheels with the filters. My last batch did have them. It's an inconvenience, but I would not take a star away if the next box I order came without them. In the end it is my senses of taste and smell that dictate when the filter needs to be changed. For what it's worth (you might want to keep this in mind when you're calculating what you may be spending over the course of a year for filters), I never come close to the 64 ounces of water my doctor says I am supposed to get every day. I live alone. I have found the filters are pretty much spent and not doing their job at the six-week mark. You might want to keep that in mind. I suspect it would not make it past a month for a family. To be honest, the little calendars are nice, but not overly necessary. My nose and taste buds do a pretty good job of alerting me that a filter change is needed. If you are like me and have been getting your hydration from sources that you know are not the best for you, give the Pur system a chance. It took me about a week to get over my soda 'Jones.' I am glad I did it. You will be too!
An excellent alternative to buying commercially bottled water.
March 17, 2015
We LOVE this filtration system. Our tap water, while safe to drink, has a heavy chlorine taste as well as an almost kerosene scent to it. To drink it straight from the tap is really unpleasant, no matter how fast you gulp it down.

We purchased the larger counter-top filtration pitcher because we use water for everything, coffee, cooking, travel mugs, even our soda maker. Hands down, Pur beats other models we've tried. The odor is removed, and the water is fairly tasteless. This is particularly critical for the use in our soda maker, as the water taste is amplified somehow when carbonated.

One of the things we've notice, like others who have posted, is that the filter slows down over time. We have learned the best way to avoid this is to keep the upper chamber continuously full of water, so that as filtered water is removed for use, it automatically drains through the filter. In this way, the filter is constantly kept wet. It seems to us that the filter will dry out quickly if the pitcher is not constantly full, and suddenly, water doesn't want to pull through it any more. The filter lasts a reasonably long time if you use in the manner I've described. We only have to change out the filter every two months, despite the incredible amount of water the family consumes. A great investment if you can't afford a water treatment system, and are looking for alternatives to the cost (and eco-damage) of bottled water.
A decent filter in the market
October 26, 2014
The main reason why I was looking for a water purifier is to make some contribution from my side to save the earth.
I hate buying use and throw plastic cans and bottles when you can easily purify the water in your home and carry water in a reusable bottle.

The one thing that I do like about USA is, people never reuse anything because of their laziness. If you spend just one minute to carry a reusable bag/bottle you already have, you can save tons of plastics going to the dump yard which will take hundreds of years to decompose.

Coming to the product review, first of all $20 for 4 filter is a very good deal. The filters work perfect and the filtered water tastes better. One problem that I find with this filter is the first 2 refills of water tastes really good but it feels weird in the throat. I think we need to run the tap water for long time and also should not drink the first 2 batch of water which might have some carbon content from the filter. Apart from that the filter lasts longer than the promised lifetime of 40gal. It is cheaper than its competitor Britta, saves your dollar and the planet.

Good but some filters may be defective, slow filtering.
August 29, 2016
Filters worked for a few weeks then started to get extremely slow. Took more than a day to go through one filter cycle. Contacted PUR support and they were great. They shipped out replacement filters right away. So far no problems. Using city water and mainly use the filters to improve taste. It works for me.
Good taste of water - some filters slow down and stop working in a week
July 18, 2016
So we bought the PUR filter when we moved to a new apartment in 2015. The original filter that came with the kit was awesome. The replacement filters are really a coin-toss. Some of them work well (for upto 4 weeks), others go bust after a week. The flow goes slow really fast - and even after using all the workarounds mentioned on the website or comments above, the filter eventually dies out fast. I'd really like consistent quality. Now that that's out of the way - the water quality is really good. It matches well to the quality of bottled water, and it also maintains good taste. I'd like to have an individual filter replacement warranty for the ones that go bust in a week's time. Ah well, some day!
This PUR 2-Stage Water Pitcher Replacement Filter fits my PUR ...
April 6, 2016
This PUR 2-Stage Water Pitcher Replacement Filter fits my PUR Plus pitcher perfectly. Unlike the original filters that have a red moving replacement indicator on the top of the filter, it has no replacement indicator. There are a couple of decals in the package to remind the user to replace the filters every two months, but the decals assume that every household uses the same amount of filtered water. On the package, there is also a statement that each filter will treat 40 gallons or 640 eight-oz cups of water. That requires the user to keep a use log. The web page claimed many benefits of using this filter but I personally can't verify them. I did a taste test by comparing PUR filtered water, Kirkland bottle water I bought at Costco, and tap water from my kitchen faucet, I couldn't tell any difference. However, I am not a professional taste-tester. I have to take the manufacturer's words on it.
Improves Taste of Water
March 15, 2016
These aren't bad. I use them in the 18-cup dispenser and find that they work pretty well. They filter my water very well and remove any metallic or mineral type taste you get from tap water. They do filter more slowly than Brita, but I also feel like they actually filter much more thoroughly, and I don't mind the wait time. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is for the occasional dud I'll get: usually I can get the filter to last for 2-3 months, but occasionally I'll get one filter every few boxes that for some reason clogs up after 1 month of use and all the water just sits in the top of the filter without trickling through. Not sure what that's about, as I drink the same amount of water each day.
Works GREAT...When it Works!
November 30, 2013
The Pure 2-Stage water filters are decent and do what they claim as far as making your water not only taste better but remove impurities. I have a large water filter that uses these and now when I run out of filters, we refuse to drink the tap because it tastes way worse than we realized! So keeping these on hand in a must for my family. These do come with stickers so you can chart how soon each one will need replacing by looking at the dial which states the date you put a new one in and shows how long it should be good for. I try to change mine at the mark where it get's red, but if not we CAN taste a difference. However, they do clog. I don't know why or what the drama is but it's not a good morning when I find out that the water I filled the pitcher with is still sitting on the top and remaining unfiltered. And...NO! This doesn't happen to every filter but still without fail at least one in the box will do this and on occasion they all do.It also needs to be mentioned this doesn't happen when it's brand new, nor does it happen when it's old and ready for a change. This usually happens randomly after it's been working just fine and way before it's time to change. My solution has been to take it out and shake is like crazy. This can be make easier by listening to a really good song while doing it but whatever your chosen shaking method, after a couple minutes pop that bad boy back in the filter and if possible fill it with that squirt hose (the thing you squirt your hubby with when he asks when dinners done while your still working on lunch dishes) If that doesn't work, take it out, rinse under the tap and repeat the shake. I don't typically have to do it again, but occasionally you get a stubborn one. It may work perfect after that from anywhere from a week all the way until it's time to replace but DON'T THROW IT AWAY if it clogs. That's not fun, then you have only regular tap...and tap is not cool unless it's a dance! So while yes, I would recommend these for any Pur water pitcher that requires them and I also keep buying them, they do have their flaws but it's not anything a few silly dance moves in the kitchen can't fix.
These filters make the water taste great, are reasonably priced, but can't become dry or they will clog
August 13, 2013
I love the taste of water from using these filters. Unfortunately, compared to the Brita ones they clog really easy. We have the big Pur water jug in our fridge with a valve to let the water out. If we let the filtered water in the reservoir get below half, our filter clogs every time. It clogs so bad it can take hours for the water to filter, or sometimes it plugs completely and no water gets through. So, we constantly have to keep the water level high in our container. The age of the filter doesn't matter at all in regards to the plugging. I have had a brand new filter plug up on day 2 after the water level got below half.

One trick though, if this happens to you just take out the filter, and knock in on the side with the palm of your hand a few times then run water through it with the facet or soak it. It will upplug and work again until the water level gets too low again.

Long time PUR customer tired of dud filters
February 4, 2016
We've used PUR for years. For the price and what it does, we feel PUR is the best choice for our budget considering what the competition offers. The large, slim dispenser we use with these filters doesn't hog a lot of space in the refrigerator. The dispenser is easy to clean. We're talking about the filters, though. It would do PUR well to address the frustrating slow/no filtering problem well documented here. In our experience, it seems like 1 out of 5 filters is a dud. That cost has added up. Lately, I've tried removing the dud filter from the dispenser, and wacking it on it's side on the kitchen counter, shaking it so I can hear the carbon rattling around and wacking it again on it's side. That seems to be working for now. I don't know if this will work on future dud filters. You pay for a product, you expect it to work without having to fix it before you can use it. PUR needs to address this.Fix that problem and this would be a 5 star product.
Sometimes work, sometimes a problem - definitely not reliably
October 19, 2015
Have found these to be incredibly inconsistent, particularly ordering the ones from Kaz as opposed to the ones that originally came with my pitcher. Some of them have worked from the get go (after soaking of course), some of them have stopped working in the first few days and I just threw them out. Most of them required at least some level of shaking/tinkering to get them working correctly. It's really frustrating and makes it seem like throwing away money to buy more and more of these over time. It also makes me wonder whether the filters are really working. At the same time, most of the water I've consumed using this after buying these filters has still been good and I haven't found any issues with it (unless one continues using the filters well beyond their date for replacement).
I found that the latest replacement filters are not as good as before
August 15, 2015
I have been using it for a few years now. It does reduce the odder and improved the water taste. However, I found that the latest replacement filters are not as good as before. After I filters the water, I can still see small particles under the light. I was quite disturbed after discovered that. I did some research on the types of filters. I found NSF/ANSI Drinking Water Treatment Unit (DWTU) standards such as NSF 42, NSF 53, and NSF 401 online. Then I found PUR has no indication on the standard of their filters besides mentioning their MAXION filter technology which I have no idea what it is. I wonder if someone from Amazon community can enlighten me with the comparative data between PUR filter and Clean & Pure water filter to help me make an informative decision on my future purchases.
Wonderful while it lasts. Which isn't that long. Except when you're waiting for the filter to filter. Poorly designed as well.
November 1, 2014
Produces great tasting water, but...Almost every time the water has fallen lower than the filter, I've had issues. The middle portion of the filter is concave (recessing into the filter) that traps air there. Water will fill up to the bottom of the filter, but this tends to create an air bubble directly at the filter end which blocks water from the top reservoir from draining into the main lower region.Short lifespan. Spending money on replacing filters isn't going to force me into bankruptcy, but for the price these should be longer lasting. PUR advertises 2 month life span, but my pitcher is hollering at me with its little light to replace in well less than 2 months. 3 months or greater is my ideal.Slow to filter. Maybe great tasting water should take as long as it does with these, but it's a time suck to refill a mostly emptied pitcher. I understand this is a first world problem and there are plenty of people that can only dream of a clean glass of water. I still consider this valid criticism.
Tasty Water, Really Slow Refill Time, Those With Hard Water Beware!!!
September 13, 2014
The Good: These filters are easy to install and truly do filter the bad taste out of my tap water. Amazon's multi-pack buying method is great since the filters need to be replaced in order to keep the water tasting good. Just simply unwrap, soak in cold water for 30 minutes, and twist to install and you're done! The Bad: These filters are supposed to last 3 months "under normal use", however I have to warn those with hard water that they will be replacing far more often. I've found that these filters only last approximately half that time and the way you can tell is by the slow filtering. I purchased the 18 cup dispenser and this filter is so slow it usually takes 45 minutes to fill the tank!Summary: Using these filters and dispenser is still cheaper for us than buying bottled water. The water is quite tasty and we noticed a major difference immediately. They are easy to install and provide immediate results, just be aware of added expense in filter replacement if you have hard water.
Okay
November 18, 2012
I have purchased this item many times from the store, and it worked fine. This was my first time purchasing the item on Amazon, and the product was damaged and did not work properly. I had a problem with all three filters- the carbon filter leaked out during the pre-soak step. They clogged quickly, so this was basically a waste of my $. After a short time, water would remain at the top of the filter setup. I wish I had returned them after trying the first filter instead of taking a chance on the other ones.*Update. Well, I just read some other reviewers comments and learned that Pur changed the design of their water filters. So I guess the other stores will carry the same item. Guess I'm going to have to trash my Pur water dispenser and buy into a different brand.**2014 update. Well now I started using it filter system again. I was really careful about soaking/rinsing longer than they said, and the first filter seems fine. It filters quickly- I have been using it for more than a month.

Used to be great filters, but now stop filtering or filter too slowly
September 9, 2017
I have been using this product for 7 years, the efficiency has declined significantly the past couple years! This last set we ordered May 2017 are the worst =( They stop filtering or filter very very slowly. I have to take the filter out & shake within just a few days or week after I put a new one in! The filters in the past were never like that. You only soaked them once before use, & they filtered well & quickly until you disposed of them. I don't know what Pur did to change the filter replacements, but we are sadly forced to look for a replacement water filtering system.
This is the second multi-pack I have purchased. This ...
September 20, 2016
This is the second multi-pack I have purchased. This particular set does not completely drain out the pitcher. It seems to stall about 1/2 way through filtering. I replaced the first one I installed 2 weeks later because of this and it happened again.Tricks I have heard include poking a pin through the hole about 3/4 down the filter.. That worked for a day. The other tip was to soak the filter for an hour before use. I will try that next. This product should work by just following the directions. 2 stars.
ZERO instructions for preparing filter for use in pitcher - potentially harmful to unaware consumers
February 15, 2016
There are ZERO instructions included to prepare the filters for use in the pitcher. If I hadn't been a long time user of this brand, I would not have known to soak the filter and then rinse it out before placing it in the pitcher for first use. I find this totally irresponsible since the filter needs to let loose of some charcoal before it's first use. Most first time replacement purchasers are going to find this loose charcoal in their filtered water and may ingest it unknowingly. If the manufacturer can include stickers for replacement with these filters, they can surely include instructions on how to properly prepare the actual filters for use! PUR 2-Stage Water Pitcher Replacement Filter, 4-Pack
Left a nasty taste
February 13, 2016
So when I first got the PUR water dispensing unit, it came with a filter, and it was fantastic. The water was clear and tasted great. However, the time came to replace the filter after a few months. When I got this replacement filter the first thing I noticed upon opening it up was that it looked kinda dirty! Like it had a few grains of what looked like sand or dirt and a few short hairs on it. This really surprised me because it was sealed in a bag. I shrugged that off and prepped the filter. Did everything you're supposed to do, rinsed it off, soaked it for 15 minutes, rinsed it again. When I used it for the first time and tried the filtered water, I immediately noticed a very strange taste that was not there when I used the other filter. Like a very obvious taste that was nasty. I checked the water in the tap to see if that's what it tastes like, but NO. The water from the sink actually tastes fine. But once it was run through the filter it tasted nasty!I'm giving it 2 starts because MAYBE it is still filtering the water. I have no way of knowing for sure. But I do know that it came looking dirty, and gives the water a gross taste. So I won't be using it anymore.
Very good product. Better than brita filters
February 7, 2015
-- Updated review --The new filters they send are junk. They just stop working after 2 weeks. Few of them just doesn't work at all. People in comments are reporting that this is happening with everyone. Don't know why can't they fix what they did wrong. The product was working excellently, but now it's just junk.-- Original Review --Very good product.Better than brita filters. One great thing about this is, if it gets old, it takes a lot of time to filter and sometimes it just doesn't filter at all. What brita does is, if it gets old, it let's the water out way faster than before. So if there is less filtering going on, brita will let the water out very fast, which is bad because it is letting out bad water. This product ensures that if there is less filtering or if it's older, it won't let the water out .. meaning .. you got to replace it rather than having bad water everytime.
Ambivalent...overstates how long the filter will last.
January 17, 2011
I know...There are already over 400 reviews for this product and the chances are that I'll add to this discussion are slim to none. Despite this, I'll proceed. For years I've thought to myself...at what point does the filtration slow down so drastically it takes over 4 hours to filter one pitcher of water? I drink a lot of water throughout the day so once this slowdown occurs, I have to make sure I keep filtered water stocked to account for the lag. I've lived in the same place for 6 years and have used PUR filters for about the last 10 years. I still prefer PUR to Brita as I appreciate not having to dodge little black filter flakes.I use these filters with the oval pitcher. I've been keeping track of how often I fill it, and at nearly half way to the 40 gallon benchmark is actually when the speed of filtration slows from a good clip to a snail's pace. I don't know why this happens, so quickly...I'd expect to get 75% to the 40 gallon mark before the huge slowdown occurs, but this is apparently wishful thinking. By the time the filter is 75% used, it takes over 6 hours to filter the pitcher.I'd ask that PUR re-evaluate their claim that this is a useful product up to 40 gallons. If you have to wait 6 hours to filter a glass of water, I'd say it's time to get a new filter. My second complaint is what so many others before me have pointed out. They did away with the handy dandy indicator and instead decided, based on consumer feedback (yeah, right), that the sticker was a better idea. This is utter hogwash. Everyone's water usage varies...if you buy a lot of bottled water (as many people in the city do), your usage may be less than someone who uses this exclusively to fill a canteen. The 60 days the sticker claims the filter will last is more than double the time it takes for me to filter 40 gallons using the same filter. Speed of filtration is also a good indication of how close the filter is to the end of its life, but 60 days is rather generous...from the point of view of my usage, the sticker is completely, utterly useless. The indicator took into account usage vs. just time (and was therefore not only more accurate, but just plain accurate). Getting rid of the indicator was just a stupid, stupid, stupid, did I mention stupid thing. It may be time for a change from PUR.

Lasts 3 days, not 3 months
February 20, 2017
The filters that came with my water filter worked great. These ones, however, work for a short while, then seem to clog up and stop filtering water. Other commenters recommend such great workarounds as "banging it on the kitchen sink" or "poking it with something", but really, these should just work! This is the third time I've bought faulty replacement filters, each time thinking "surely they've fixed the problem by now!" Just because I'm an idiot doesn't mean you have to be. Stay away from these replacements! For now I'll be switching brands completely and seeing if the Brita model works any better.
Not working - Water sits in the top of the reservoir
March 22, 2016
This particular shipment of PUR filters does not seem to work. I have previously ordered and used filters for my 18 cup filters for several years without any problems. Two out of these three filters do NOT work, even after significant soaking and resting. The water just sits in the top of the reservoir.
New filters clog immediately after installing. Never happened years ago.
April 8, 2015
As you can see from the other negative reviews, Pur must have changed their internal filter design. I don't know if it's to save money on manufacturing or make people buy more sooner. I have been using the same Pur filters for years. The last 3 I've used from different packages purchased at different times, have all clogged within the first few days of installing. I used to replace them every 3 months even though they didn't clog. Now I go through a 3 pack in a few weeks. This is completely unacceptable. My water hasn't changed. I followed the directions on how to install them every time. I even followed customer service's advice on soaking them for an hour, shaking them and tapping them right side up but no water goes through after all that. I even went to my brother's house and tried it there with a new filter seeing if his water would work better. Nope. Same problem. I guess I have to look for another brand now because I'm not spending more money on this.
The filters have been redesigned and my replacement filter blocked up after just two weeks of light use.
January 19, 2015
The original filter for this pitcher had a dial on top that indicated when to replace. That one lasted 5 months and did an excellent job. Unfortunately, the replacement filters now are much different, with no indicator dial but just a two month sticker that indicates to replace in two months no matter how much or little the filter is used. This was a bad sign, as the filter abruptly stopped passing water after just two weeks. I have been reading that these new filters are failing prematurely. Looks like a good product has been ruined by an attempt to simplify the filter. When the filter failed, it filtered about two thirds of the input water then just stopped completely. Since the replacement filters were purchased before the original failed, several months had passed before the first replacement was used, and they cannot be returned after 30 days. The pitcher is now useless since workable filters are not available. But hey, you might get a few months of use out of this expensive item if it happens to be delivered with an old style filter.
Negatively effecting my water consumption.
May 18, 2014
I think Pur water filters are the best pitcher and faucet filters out there. I have tried Brita on the same water and Pur is much better in my opinion. But only if they work. Like so many other folks have said, they new filters just do not work. The water does not flow through them. I usually filter water and put it in gallon jugs so I have some ready in advance, but now I am waiting on the water to go through the filter. It worked ok for a week or so. Not acceptable. I can't afford to replace these this soon. Not sure what I am going to do. The water not filtered makes me sick to my stomach. My hope is that Pur will fix this problem and get back to their usual standard. I don't want to go through and try all the other filters. I already did that and came up with this as the best. But no more. Sad. This is only for me and my cat so not a whole lot of water, but we need it to work.
POOR QUALITY CONTROL
October 3, 2013
I've been using PUR water pitchers and filters for close to ten years. I have three different pitchers (two small, one large), and each gets used on a daily basis. Obviously, I've used many filters over that ten year period, and during that time occasionally I'd get a filter that would not properly filter water after a few fillings. Less than --guesstimating-- 1% of the filters were 'defective.' However, recently, that is in the last six months, nearly EVERY filter I've used has had this problem. Some straight out of the packaging will not filter a full pitcher of water without taking the filter out of the pitcher and rinsing it repeatedly under water, and then reinserting it into the pitcher. Other filters, like the two I replaced just three days ago, are not filtering properly after only three-four fillings. (And yes, of course--I have always followed the 'conditioning' instructions prior to using the filter.) Some filters--regardless of how many 'rinses' I give them, will not filter a full pitcher of water and I've wound up throwing them away and starting over with a new filter. This has become a very costly procedure.I contacted PUR's customer service and politely explained this situation, asking them for a remedy, or at the very least, I expected a reply. That was over one month ago. I got an auto-response return email saying they'd received my email and would reply. Thereafter, nothing. No a word in response.I'm done. I've got four more 'new' filters that I'll try to use it, as painful as that has become. And today, I will purchasing some Brita pitchers and filters as replacements. I'll be tossing the PUR pitchers in the garbage, because that is where they belong.Update March 16, 2014: After writing this review, I continued to research the problem. Many people have this same problem, and apparently Pur customer service had advised some of those who complained to "whack" the clogged/slow filters up against something hard, like the inside of the kitchen sink, a couple of times. I tried that and it did work on one of the filters. For awhile. It clogged up/slowed down again after maybe five or so fillings. In another review, someone suggested directly spraying water into the two small holes at the bottom of the filter. I tried that too, and it worked for maybe two or three fillings. But it gave me an idea. I took a toothpick, and pushed it into each of those tiny holes, and gently rotated the toothpick before removing it. That appears to work well. I have since tried this procedure on two other filters that were very slow or wouldn't filter the water at all (again, brand new--straight out of the package), and once I do that with the toothpick, the filters work perfectly for the entire time (40 gallons, I keep track of the fillings).I have now found a work-around. I won't upgrade the star rating of these filters, however, because I don't think Pur should make its customers do this much research and spend extra time AND money, simply to make their filters work properly. Furthermore, there are many people who will never figure this out, who will never see this review, or any other review suggesting fixes, and who will simply waste a lot of money on these filters. It's not right.

User Overview
  • Kaz vs Lasko

Wow... With the Kaz height at 1292.5 inches, width at 324 inches and length of 423.2 inches, the Lasko with 920.5"X 283.1"X 999.2"... Hope they're unassembled, but still, way too big for my house. I'm still thinking about getting one for the barn, if i can find the space to put it.
