I love this salad shooter. I really mostly use it to shred Cheddar cheese blocks. It works great. I had an older one that finally cracked so I bought this new one. I am very pleased with it. It is more powerful than the old one so it doesn't bogg down much at all. It is a little noisier than the old one, but I don't run it for very long...so I still give it 5 stars.
This thing is a BEAST!! :-)

I can't believe how well this works. I have a $300 Cuisinart food processor that I'd been using to process produce from our huge garden. It broke (again!) and I decided to take a chance on the Presto based on the great reviews. Wow, what a great machine. It actually shreds cleaner than the Cuisinart, no mush and glop like Cuisinart makes. It goes forever, cleans VERY easily, and extra parts are cheap and easy to order. I ordered the extra shredding blades from Presto, and then got another pusher assembly off eBay so I can trade off while one's in the dishwasher. During this time of year, I'm processing 30-50 lbs of zucchini at one time, twice or three times a week, mostly shredding it, and this machine just won't quit. And it's even faster if I'm slicing. I've also used it to shed a ton of cheese, and it does it beautifully, again much nicer than the Cuisinart and with less waste, and SO MUCH easier to clean. I love making salads to take for lunch, I can quickly slice and shred some veggies in the morning and just rinse the cones and set them out to dry. I absolutely love this thing!!
Hurry before they run out!

I bought mine in 2010 and it is used exclusively for chopping pecans and for that purpose there is nothing better. Yes, I know you can buy chopped pecans but what you are getting are essentially floor sweepings. If you bake and need chopped pecans you better chop them yourselves. I typically chop 10 lbs at a time and power is a requirement. In a few minutes I'm done and all the parts that get dirty go in the dishwasher. I find that the ripple cone is the best for nut chopping but mine is getting little cracks in the corners of the slicing insert. It still work well but I thought I would buy another cone. Go to Presto site and the ripple cone is no longer available but it is still included in the set sold here. I interpret this fact as it is available in the set but not as a part as an indication that it likely is no longer in production and they are just playing out the string. I could be wrong but when was the last time you saw a SaladShooter ad for this product that once was widely promoted? I see me buying what to me is essentially a $50 ripple cone but at $10 a year I'm still getting value for money. I soon will corner the market for never used slicing cones. I just can't bear throwing them out.
Pleasantly Surprised
February 18, 2015
I was skeptical about this one. I was perfectly happy with my mandolin until I sliced the top of my pinky off. Obviously, I needed a new system, but a saladshooter? There are a lot of parts, but they all come off of the motor section and go right into the dishwasher (the motor section wipes clean and
fits in the space in the drawer left when I threw out my 2 mandolins). One twist to the right mounts the chute to the motor section. The slicer/shedder cone fits into the circular base of the chute and one twist to the right of the plastic ring secures the slicer/shredder cone to the chute (lining them up becomes second nature after the first couple of times). That's it. Fill the chute (or half-chute for smaller amounts) loosely, plug it in, and use the adjustable food guide to push the food through the slicer/shredder cone into a bowl. I've had this item for 2 weeks, and I've used it at least once a day for salads, soups, snacks, side dishes. I've sliced carrots, celery, green peppers, mushrooms, onions, potatoes, cheddar and parmesan cheeses and nuts. It's as easy to disassemble as it is to assemble. Rinse and put all non-motor parts in the dishwasher, stack and zip-lock-bag them when they're clean. One of the other reviewers pointed out that celery can jam, and I found this to be true (it gets a little stringy, but it's useable). So, as daunting as this machine appears to be, I found it surprisingly quick and pilot-friendly. Not only would I recommend it to a friend, I bought one for my sister-in-law for her birthday.
Awesome, though stains easily
April 1, 2014
After grating off a chunk of my pinkie, I've had enough of my evil grater and started looking for a faster and safer solution to my shredded carrots addiction.
Following tons and tons of research, I bought the supremely ugly SaladShooter. It does what it is advertised to do, and does it beautifullly. I can shred 5 lb of carrots in minutes. MINUTES! Washing them and cutting off all the ends takes more time.

Just why does it have to be so very ugly? It also stains from certain veggies right away, in my case obviously carrots, so I wish it came in red or black instead of offwhite.

I uploaded pictures to show the uglyness of orange stains.

Low cost easy to use and just what an amature cook needs. Great for parties, slices meat and cheese and for economical party throwing. Also I cook pork roasts, turkey breasts and beef roasts, slice them and freeze in 8 ounce vacuum sealed packs once a month for instant home cooked dinners. I hate cooking!

Price is reasonable, the blade is really sharp. However, it's a bit tricky when it comes to get very thin slices. My experience as a cook helps, but my wife for instance cannot get to do that

March 9, 2017
Works great, easy to use and clean. Is great for those times you don't want to lug out your food processor !
Makes easy work of grating, & slicing aside from clean-up and storage.
November 28, 2016
A little bulky but, plenty of power. We grind beets, carrots, radish, cauliflower, potato, and apples and it barely slows down. Makes life much easier for our elderly mother since grating by hand is pretty hard for her these days. Kind of bulky to find storage for all the attachments and unit.
Shooter makes for healthier eating
March 20, 2016
Works well overall and a time saver. Really noisy as others have stated. Until I became familiar with the shooter it was awkward to assemble. Shredder is great. Instead of cutting and shredding vegetables daily for a salad, I can do a lot of prep ahead of time enabling Me too have veggies over several days. One good benefit now I shred a different variety of vegetables into my salad than before because of time and/or laziness. One big con, I wished it had more metal parts don't like the plastic.
And ginger too!
February 9, 2015
Am happy that I purchased this product. I have used it 4 out of the last 5 days. Easy to clean, by hand - and really pretty easy to store. We are traveling the US in an RV so space is precious and no dishwasher but there are no complaints here for what work it does in the kitchen. I have used it to slice the ginger I had asked 'the community" about and it works great! Now I can have fresh slicesof ginger everyday for cooking and my tea! I have not tried to grate the ginger yet though but am sure that it will work well too. I did try a sausage link - slightly frozen, slices were thin, still round but a few were messy - no big deal. Have done zucchini, squash, celery, onions and my first potatoes (for au gratin). All worked great!Would recommend to others.
It works but heads-up

Hats off to the Amazon community for the customer feedback provided re: the Presto Professional SaladShooter (PPSS) ... your comments persuaded me to purchase this product. You were right!I've had my PPSS about a month now and find myself looking for opportunities to use more fresh vegetables in my cooking! For example, I love stir-fry but have only prepared it occasionally because of the amount of prep work involved. Thanks to PPSS, prep work is quick and easy ... so much so that I've made stir-fry three times in the last month.Overall, I'm pleased with this purchase. However, I do have two concerns/questions that I want to share with the Amazon community.1) Power Cord ProblemsI have had problems with getting the unit to power up.After troubleshooting, I discovered that root cause was the positioning of the electrical cord where it enters the base unit. It had been twisted during packaging. When I straightened it out, the unit powered up. Unfortunately, the cord seems permanently twisted so I have to untwist it every time I use the device.Upon further research, I discovered that more recent versions of the Presto Professional SaladShooter come with a replaceable electrical cord.Clearly I got an older unit. Here is the model and unit number:Model: 0297003Unit: 47125K2Have you experienced this issue?2) Replacement conesFor stir-fry (and the scalloped potatoes my 97 year old father loves), my go-to cone is "thick slice" (regular slice is too thin).I want to order more thick-slice cones but don't see them as an option via Amazon.Have you found a trusted vendor where I can purchase these?

It's ok...
March 28, 2017
The blade on this slicer rotates too slow for precision slicing of thin cured meats. It's fine for vegetables or thicker slices of meat. At times you can smell the motor on this thing, and wondering how long it will be before it quits for good.
Not as sturdy as I had hoped
December 9, 2016
Not as sturdy as I had hoped. The carriage has too much yield & allows the blade to cut into the plastic pusher. Otherwise, it slices alright, but you really have be careful to keep that from happening.

July 24, 2016
I wanted this unit to slice meat for beef jerky. It works okay for the job. You get what you pay for with the price. It works don't get me wrong, just that one side of the blade is sharp and the other is dull... It also doesn't feed the meat back like I would want for beef jerky. I am going to keep trying but after using 3 top loins and putting thin every way but sunday, it still likes to bunch up in the back end.

September 23, 2017
The first one was dead on arrival and replaced without problem. ok can happen. The second one works good but one of the tools is just stamped out and not sharpened. Was nearly impossible to grind down potatoes. The other tools are good though. And its really loud. So ok but just not great.
Okay for large volume not for everyday use
December 28, 2016
I bought it to grate vegetables since I have a very productive home garden (bottle gourds, carrots)It is good for grating large volumes. Reduced a bulk of my load. But no I would not recommend purchasing this for routine use:1. Does not shoot as nicely as in pic. Unless you hold it at an angle. But for me personally I can't press hard and hold it slanting.2. Fitting of blade funnel needs to be done well (base and ring lock) which is a bit pain but sometimes mine keep falling off. It happened after use for sometime so Maybe it's my fixing problem.3. Material gets lodged between the funnel (chute funnel like opening) and blade funnel and then one needs to apply lot more force to push it through.4. Cleaning is a pain5. One of the blades broke while slicing carrorts.
Great product- while it works
November 30, 2015
I bought this at the end of January this year and loved it. Primarily used it for grating cauliflower for cauliflower rice. However, it died last week while shredding cheese. The motor stopped working and the damn thing went in the trash. It was a very useful small appliance for me, so I'm debating whether I will buy another one. Hopefully this was just a fluke, since other reviewers seem to have gotten good use out of theirs.

May 15, 2015
I have always loved these, but this is the first time I have paid full price for one. I usually pick them up at my local thrift shop for pennies on the dollar. They wind up lasting me a couple years and I use them often. This time, I couldn't find one so I decided that if the older, used varieties have had a couple years life in them, the new and updated version should be great! I can't say that I am convinced that will be the case. Out of the box, it has a burning smell. I thought it would go away after a few uses but it isn't. It feels as though the motor is struggling and I have to baby it. My thrift store finds were stronger than this one. Basically, I am using this for carrots and other easy to shred, light jobs. Yeah, mostly carrots and radishes. Small cheese jobs perhaps.
Hit and Miss
February 23, 2015
Like others I use to own one of these years ago but smaller version. This is the Professional and the size is quite a bit bigger. I like all the attachments with this model, and I do think if you don't put the parts in the dishwasher, should last you for years. When you are grating a hard cheese, I notice the turning on this model doesn't seem as fast as my old one, but it works well. I do notice that after dropping in some squares of say cheddar cheese, it grates it just fine, but when you pull it a part to clean it, I notice it left some flat pieces of the cheese...basically a waste unless you pull those pieces out and reinsert it in the top. Same for some vegetables.I think if I was to recommend I would get the smaller size, go to Presto's website and order the attachments I want from there, they are only $4.99 each. Complaints...slow turning, very loud (surprised how loud it was, my old one was much quieter), too bulky, and leaves too much food in the barrel.
I did not get what I paid for.
November 21, 2014
After returning the first one (see below), I now have a replacement. Works fine so far. However I used it to cut up carrots tonight and parts of it are now very orange and the color is not washing off. I consider that a sign of cheap material.ORIGINAL REVIEW:Wow, fast delivery of a huge disappointment. I ordered the Professional model due to the great reviews and the FOUR slicing/shredding attachments. The box it came in says it is the Professional model and says four and the picture shows four. There are two. There is zero quality control with most manufacturers. Especially if the product says "Made in China".I wanted this to help with Thanksgiving dinner prep.

Detachable part does not stay locked in motor unit.
July 22, 2017
Like the previous one I owned the removable part does not stay locked in the motor unit preventing the triggering of the security switch. Same problem I've seen forever. I thought they would have fixed it by now...
not durable enouph
August 31, 2016
It would be an awesome product if it worked. I purchased on May 19th 2016. Had to replace small slicing cone since (i use it the most). Now while slicing radish or cumber the whole thing falls apart while slicing. Have to hold it in locked position. For $50 they are charging for it, I woudl expect more durability. Also this product was placed ins service in May 19 2016 today is 8/31/2016 and I am writing this review because I am looking for this product replacement. I only use it to make a salad for lunch for work 4 times a week. This thing is not going to work with grating hard cheese. I am having hard time keeping it together to grate carrots and radish.
Underpowered and slow and noisy.
August 30, 2016
I was very excited to get a salad shooter to make the chore of preparing the salads easy and be able to make smaller qty butthis is not the one for me.First of all is underpowered and slow , unit is not able to shred the apple with the peel on. Second the thumper is awkward to use and and push , too many parts and this units requires that you press very hard to shred. I am a strong man and I found it hard to use , wife gave up on it on the first try.Last but not least unit is super noisy and hard to clean , lots of pieces and the flimsy retainer ring didn't inspire confidence that this unit will last long.
Loud and awkward.
July 27, 2016
It's noisy, awkward, and the plastic stains easily. A food processor or a mandoline would be a better option. We tried it and sent it right back. It shredded carrots, but we tried to slice cucumbers and it had a hard time with the very thin skin of a European cuke.
Only works with some veggies like Cauliflower, Potato etc
January 10, 2016
Only works with some veggies like Cauliflower, Potato etc...it did not work when I tried shredding onions or green pepper into thin long slices because if the onion or green pepper falls parallel to the surface of the blade (long slicer) it did not work and made a very loud screeching sound enough to wake everybody in the building.
I like it but don't love it. Just gotta work with it
December 30, 2015
I like it but not that much. if got a lot of qualities yes but you really can't cut that easily. I thought it would take less mechanical effort but i have to push on the carrots, cucumbers or onions. Mostly its for decorations or something but for day to day cooking, its not worth it. the slices are too thin, the whole inside gets dirty and stuffed. An its harder to clean (the metal parts are quite sharp.) I can't cut veggies like onions, potatoes or pepper (capsicum) or cabbages. It showed it in that box but i can't do it. its no possible ways.

November 17, 2016
I used it to make salads. It somehow took longer than chopping the veggies myself. And not to mention the veggies the Presto chopped looked less presentable/less appetizing.
Not worth the money or time in my opinion.
September 27, 2015
It is so difficult to get lined up properly in order to activate the on switch that it is just faster to cut the carrots by hand. Wasted the money. Don't have enough time to fiddle with it. Works for one chopping load, then when I cleaned it out, the alignment for the switch was off and I never did get it back in place to work again. Would be a great product if it had a better alignment system to activate the switch.
Totally Disappointed
December 22, 2013
I was doing a project that needed a lot of grated vegetables. I was looking for an alternative to a food processor but before I chose this I read all of the reviews. Most of the reviews here are positive and addressed all of the issues that I thought were important, so based on this I chose to give this a try. I was totally disappointed with its performance. It was easy to assemble, but the minute I inserted my vegetables it started to go downhill. I was chopping cabbage so I cut it into little pieces and inserted a little at a time. Nothing came out. I continued to insert more and more, but the more I inserted the more it became clogged. I scraped out the chopped cabbage to find chunks that were stuck to the blade. I disassembled it to find the food stuck to the blade on both sides, it was a mess to cleanup with no headway in my project. I took 30 minutes to grate one half of a cabbage and 1 red pepper. I didn't attempt anything else. I had enough at this point and chose to clean it to ship back. When cleaning I noticed the little bit of red pepper that I had tried had gotten juiced instead of chopped or grated and the machine was stained everywhere. Not sure why others liked this so much, but if you have a project your doing and are considering this I would look into a food processor instead. Shipped back with uttter disgust and disappointment.
Very disappointed
December 11, 2011
I bought it in November for Thanksgiving, and it was amazing. I was so impressed that it allowed me to make some salad in 3 minutes so I recommended it to many of my friends. However, last night I wanted to make some cucumber salad and that was only the second time I used this salad shooter, but the power switch didn't work, maybe it got stuck or something. I liked it so much I thought I shouldn't give up so easily, well, this morning I tried it again, and went through the instructions book and still couldn't figure out why it doesn't work anymore. I'm so sad that I have to return it, :( it still looks brand new, but just doesn't work.
