Too bad they stopped making it. Bright color, I paint over hair each day when wet with a toothbrush, dry and it looks great.

Loved this stuff when I had platinum hair. Pigment is bright and rich. Downside is it doesn't wash out evenly. But for 1-2 weeks of fun streaks/tips it does the job. Applying is easy with your finger tips and any splatter on the counter or floor comes off easy enough. It does make the texture of your hair courser while the color is in since it is coating your hair and not dying or staining it.

This was the perfect red hair color for Halloween. The color was easy to use and not as messy as I imagined. My hair is naturally curly, so I straightened prior to applying the color and then wet my hair to make it curly again. Even though it says it will last 2 - 3 washes, that's not exactly true. Some highlights will last through a few washes, but the all over hair color will not last after 1 vigorous wash. The product is a little sticky, so plan your hair product accordingly. And some color will rub off on your neck. It was so much better than the old temporary hair color that made a huge mess and didn't provide good coverage. Overall, this was awesome and I'll definitely be trying all the colors.

After reading some of the reviews I thought I would end up throwing these away, but my nieces wanted to have 'princess hair' so I ordered them anyway. I was pleasantly surprised that the chalk worked on both the blond and the brunette. It is extremely important that you follow the instructions provided in their ad or you will be disappointed. There is some kind of coating covering the outside of each chalk. We found that the more vibrant the chalk became on the paper the more color that was transferred to their hair from that chalk and with some of the more vibrant colors we had to do the paper step multiple times to get the best color. Also it seems important to work from the top down on the shaft of hair because if you don't it ends up looking like you teased it like we did in the 80's (based on my test on my own hair first.) No matter what I would try it on a small area first and determine if I like it before I moved on to having a rainbow colored head of hair. No matter what it washed out easily enough for us after the weekend was over. So have fun with it!

I love these! Today was the first time I used them (photo attached). Yes, my hands got messy -- I simply washed them after application. The instructions suggest you put something hard under longer lengths of hair so you have something to press against. On the hair close to my scalp, I simply pressed the chalk against my head. For longer lengths, I used a long, thin board and that worked fine. Another reviewer suggests holding a dry, porous sponge under your hair, putting the chalk on top of the strand of hair, then pulling sponge and chalk together down your length of hair, and I think I'll try that. The thing is, I know I'm only going to get more skilled at application but even for my first time I think I did pretty well. (Got two compliments while out shopping today!)

Bottom line: If you love playing with color and 'dressing up your hair,' you're going to love these chalks. Prepare for some mess and a small learning curve, but they're worth it.

UPDATE: I've discovered that hair chalks can be very drying. I have fine, dry hair to begin with -- it may not be a problem for others. This won't stop me from using them, but it means I won't be using them daily as planned -- once weekly or for special occasions only. I'll also do some online research about the best application techniques for keeping hair healthy. If you plan to buy this product, I encourage you to do your own research to find out what's best for you and your hair type.

I've read some of the reviews stating these don't work and just to buy pastel chalks. I've done the pastel's, and those are a huge mess; they dry out the hair, cause knotting, and worse of all just powder everything but the hair horribly. These Gypsy Stix are not the same as pastel chalks! These have a setting material integrated into the sticks, almost feels like a hair-chalk-crayon. They powder a little when applying but do not get everywhere. First applied into my daughters sun-bleached hair, the blues and greens worked the best instantly coloring even when using dry, and are still in her hair after 24 hours of hard play and sleep. The pinks and mauve did not go in as quickly, but once they were wet they worked amazing, and are still there. After 24 hours they are not as bright but definitely noticeable. Quick set with a curling iron and viola, ready to go. Highly recommend placing hair on a hard surface (used the box lid) for easy application. Works in my mouse brown/reddish hair. Recommend placing a light color like white/light pink/grey/yellow on dark hair first then covering with bright color for great contrast. Totally worth the $10. Yes the sticks are small, but they go a long way. Just wish there was a true purple stick... only downside!

I love this, its great to experiment with and is very bright colored! Works best when wet, will wash out if scrubbed with shampoo very throughly for about three rinses, but if you avoid washing that area it can last easily a couple of days at least. Very easy to apply and comes in a lot of colors. I have a white dog and its fun to dipdye his ears/tail.
It will not show up very well on the dark parts of my hair (if at all and I have naturally dark brown) but I have bleached areas underneath that are yellowish that work fine. and because your hair is a little "chalky" (its bleached too so) it tangles easily.
One more thing, I wore a white shirt and had bright dark blue in my hair and it rubbed off a little bit onto the shirt by the end of the day. It was only a little noticable. That's pretty much the extent of the rubbing off bit, I'm sure I can wash the shirt to get it out no problem.

Color works well, only issue is leaves blue powder all over bathroom after brushing or after it's been dry in hair. We chose this instead of actually dying hair, since daughter's hair has never been permed or dyed, this was a great alternative to not damaging hair. Also, great temporary for certain school activities that do not allow colored hair. She has reddish, brown hair and it shows up light with a little application or after a couple of days of no re-applying or you can make it more blue the more you put on.

I had a lot of fun with this color! The red was very bright, not really the color I would go with but it was a good experiment.It took over a week of washing everyday to get it to clear out. I had to dye my hair back for work purposes after the one week. I'm sure it would have eventually washed out.Giving it a four star just because it didn't wash out when it said it would. The suggestions in the instructions did help.

Felt odd but was good and the smell is beautiful. Got right on and off when showering.

I have mixed feelings about this. It was pretty, but made hair really stiff. I would suggest going to website and watching video on applying it before you do it yourself. I think if you have reasonable expectations it's really good. Also, it didn't turn out as dark as shown on video

It works great! But : It can make a huge mess and stain your skin. It takes forever! Because u need to use so much to make it dark. It also makes your hair super dry. But in the end the color showed and looked great for concert

Bought this for a gift for my 9 year old niece, she loved it! I loved playing with her too. It leans more to blondes, there are not a lot of colors that shows up on brown or darker hair. The only reason for not a 5 star is it is VERY messy. It gets all over your hands, rubber gloves should be included or some type of a attachment to put the chalk into.

I love these. I have naturally very blonde hair. Almost bleach blonde hair. I can't say how well it works on darker hair. I apply the chalk wet and blow dry it afterwords. To keep anything from getting on my clothes I put hairspray in it. It looks amazing. A few times I have done all brown or all colorful to prank my friends or for school spirit days. I often use these for my videos or pictures on my Instagram portfolio. @kjmyersss

Pros: Very vibrant, fun, and stays on well. It's also easy to apply and blend together to make it look like it's dyed!

Cons: It's very difficult to brush my hair when it's in so I either brush it gently or try and straighten it by blow drying it. Only one of the chalks (purple one) has stained my hair for a few days. The rest haven't stained.

Love these! I only wish they were bigger but I can just buy another. Can't get enough of them.

I have dark brown hair with silver highlights. I bought these to play with some color and to use at music festivals. I was mainly thinking of coloring my light hair but some of these look great on brunette colors. The ones I've liked so far are the dark/emerald greens, dark blues, light greens. I can also add more silver with the grey chalk, add some taupe to my regular hair and get a very neutral look. I wet the strand of hair with my fingers, wet the chalk, pressed firmly and evenly (too firm or uneven and you get pebbles). I had no trouble applying and very little mess, just my fingers that had to be washed well and spray and wipe of sink. Of course, these are chalk, they will transfer to anything they have contact with, I imagine if it rained it'd be a mess, so keep that in mind esp. with pillows, furniture, etc. On clothing, it washes out but furniture might be another story. Anyway, these were a fun way to try out colors that I love but are not appropriate as permanent colors in my particular field.

Cool. A little messy, but works! Just wish they were a little bigger. I didn't expect them to be so small!

I bought this for my elementary age daughters and its been a big hit! They both have very blonde hair so the bright colors work best for them. I've found applying it on wet hair to be very messy so we stick to dry applications. I have them lay their head down on the counter and apply the chalk on top of a piece of paper for easy clean up. The product does feel like it has a bit of an oil base but we've not had the problems with it that other reviewers reported. Without a bit of the oil I don't think it would stay attached to the hair. It went in pretty easy, stayed in (didn't rub off much on clothes or pillowcases), and was totally gone from their hair by day 3.My only complaint is that the sticks are fairly small and of the 32 colors only about half of them are what my kids want. Yellows, white, peaches, and browns could pretty much all go right into the trash. We want more pink, blue, and purple! But, for $15 I still think it's a good value and will probably by another set when we've gone through this one.

Worked great for my Mermaid costume. Very vibrant blue....however it has proven very hard to wash out!! And made my hair very DRY and frizzy.Will not use again.

The purple color is very dilute. I add food coloring to get the richness i desire. The blue is super intense which makes the purple that much more disappointing.

It was pretty vibrant when I used it first on my sister but after we washed it off there wasn't much color there. She does have untouched dark brown hair so I didn't expect much anyways but for kids it's fine. Going to try the purple soon

It comes out very dark, and it left my hair very stiff like it had gel in it.... The color was much better when I shampooed after leaving it in 24 hours....

Didn't wash out in 2-3 (or 4 or 5...) washes but looked great for Halloween!

I would love its convenience and ease of use but my hair wont take the color. Great product for blonds or bleached hair but natural dark healthy hair wont show up or stay.

Box is on the small size. Was a lot smaller them we has hoped for. Glad I bought 2 diffrent kits since this was a top gift request by my 11 year old daughter. Colors were nice and vibrant though, and we had a lot of fun experimenting. They work well on light blonde, and also light brown. We did not try on dark brown hair. See photos below! Also hair spray helps keep the color to stay, and using a flat iron .

Extremely smaller than I expected but I should have read the weight description(that's on me not the seller). Color pay off is ok I suggest using them wet. My family has blonde, red, and medium brown hair. So not sure how well they will do for dark brown/black hair but work ok for the price for us. None of them were broken that was awesome they were packaged very well. I'm looking into liquid hair chalk they seem to show up better than solid dry chalk.

The color looked nice on my hair. But I slept with the chalk color on my hair. .. a lot of it. Snd my entire head broke out in huge cystic acne...painful zits really. I tried the colors again being more careful and making sure none touched my scalp. I was fine the next day. But I won't be using these at all probably. And I was disappointed. So if you use these chalk sticks be careful they break easily and if you get it on your scalp you could wake up with a deformed head full of monster cystic zits. 😉

it is an okay item for this price. I have very fair hair so it colors good but on darker hair it's almost invisible. the colors are also not nearly as vibrant as promised.I would honestly rather invest more money and get better colors.

Stained my daughters neck and pillows. Does not "lock in the color in 60 seconds" AT ALL.Daughter could not get a brush through her hair after her hair dried with the color (her hair was damp on application, which the directions said you could do). The color was very nice though.

I have blonde hair that I go to the salon to get colored and I tried the darker pink and the blue, the colors were very vibrant. The only thing though is that the blue came out after one wash but the pink was still in for a couple of weeks. It faded after a couple of washed but I still noticed a hue of pink to where it was at,

I used the blue, and the color is nice even on dark brown hair. But omg when this stuff gets on your skin...you're doomed. Had to use hotter than hell water to get it off. The other thing is it takes a while to dry. Will so be sleeping with an old pillow case just in case.

The liquid flakes up into pieces in your hair. And the color washes out after you wash it for the first time.

Not thrilled with this. It barely showed up on my medium brown hair. I applied it as instructed and it was just a stiff clump. It weighed my hair down and the section it was in was straight as a board, standing out from the rest of my natural wavy hair.Although it said it would last a few washes, it was not visible after just one wash.

I have the same product in red and it works great. However, this product is awful & clumps my hair together and tangles it. I'm not sure why other than there is something seriously not right in the ingredients. Stay away from this color.

Really didn't work my hands and face are more blue then my hair. I suppose because I have darker hair. Had a difficult time applying I suppose because my hair is curly.

Horrible. My hair turned in to a rat's nest. It is like paint. It mainly washes out in 1 shampoo it turned from purple to pink. Still leaving it hard to comb thur. Color flakes out of hair and my is falling out in clumps.

I was SO excited to get these for my 10 y/o granddaughter because she loves doing different things with her hair. We received them yesterday and tried them out on all 3 of my granddaughters hair. One of them is Portuguese and has very long wavy, thick dark blonde hair. One is more Swedish decent and has baby fine short, light blonde hair and the other granddaughter is Creole and has very thick, 1/2 black 1/2 Hispanic hair. We tried for over an hour on both dry and freshly washed hair and it barely showed on any of them. Not to mention that when I followed the directions it pulled their hair and that didn't go over well. It also leaves the hair really dry/sticky where the chalk is making it very difficult to comb or brush through once applied. After looking at the pictures on here of the women wearing it, I can only imagine that it took a VERY long time to make it look that dark and that good. I'm VERY disappointed with this product.

These definitely are NOT what I expected. Chalks appear brighter and larger in picture. They are actually quite small and dull in color.There's no way one stick gets 100 uses. I used one stick on 3 small pieces of hair and about a third of the stick is gone already.They are VERY messy and stain everything (hands, face, etc..) They DO NOT seal...the color was coming out of my hair all night.The color does not last very long at all. Within one wash it was all out.They were a pain to use and VERY messy. Low quality. WOULD NOT BUY AGAIN!

I was excited to have temporary color when the mood struck, and it did tonight! I read most of the reviews but should have paid attention the negatives more. It's not really that hard to put on, just make sure you have a wet strand and a small tooth comb. I have very long hair and this became a nightmare after I finished. I used different colors doing thick strands on the bottom and multiple colors around the top and front of my hair.Since I kept hearing and reading that heat, (hair dryer, iron etc.) would help to set it, I did not anticipate the tangled mess that ensued! I just gave my hair more damage in TWENTY minutes with a comb and brush trying to detangle than twenty years of color treatment. Please note, I did not tease or tousle my hair. I ran the chalk down each strand until I was satisfied with the amount of color. I used detangling spray, liberally which didn't help. The only choice I had was to rewash, condition twice, and throw the chalk out. Save your money, unless you have a pixie cut. This was a great variety of colors... a good cheap alternative if you have kids wanting to draw on the sidewalk.

This is easy to use, not a mess (I don't know WHAT these people are talking about), and fun. They don't; however, seem to do it for me. I want something more vivid, but as accessible and user friendly. Maybe bigger sticks? I don't know. It doesn't stay like I need it to and seems to be faded away after just a little while, sometimes in under an hour. :( Thought I'd found "it," but I'm still looking.

I got these to play with on my kids. There was a great assortment of colors, although some of them I didn't understand why they were included, but that didn't bother me too much. They worked really great on my daughter that has very blonde hair, it didn't take much to transfer the color, although she complained about it pulling her hair. It must not have been too bad because she wanted me to do her whole head! My other daughter has dark brown hair, and it really hardly worked with a lot of effort. I read a review that said it works well on dark hair, and it really does not. I was sort of expecting that it wouldn't, but hoping that it would. Bottom line, if you want to use these on blonde hair, it's great and lots of fun, if you want to use on dark hair, don't waste your money.

I was excited to get these to use on my 6 year-old daughter for a dress up day. I definitely had to wet the chalk to get it to show up. It made a huge mess on my floor so make sure you apply outside or over a towel. Also use a rubber glove, b/c it stains your hand when you apply. I used the hot pink and it did make a pink streak, but it wasn't all that bright so I really had to keep running it through. My daughter has dark blond hair. By the end of use the chalk accidentally fell and immediately broke in 2, so that was the end of that piece. The colors also weren't as bright as they look online. I was hoping for a neon color and none of them really worked well. I would probably try again since I have a whole pack, but I don't think I would recommend.

Did not wash out of my daughter's blond hair. After washing her hair daily for two weeks and left with a light blue hue we finally cut it before school started - thank goodness we only dyed the ends!

Awful product for your hair! It makes your hair really red but do not try to brush your hair after you have it in! Your hair will break off! It took 12 washings to get my hair to the point where it wasn't red red anymore and then several after that to get it all out finally. It was so drying and damaging.

Do not buy! This product is terrible. It made my hair unbrushable and looks terrible. I even tried washing it out 3 times and it wouldn't come out. I needed it for cosplay but I ended up looking terrible. It makes your hair look like a cheap wig.

It felt like I poured paint over my head. I could barley brush my hair for 2 weeks. When i went to the salon I had to get 6 inches cut off because it damaged my hair, and a conditioning treatment because it dried my hair out so bad. I don't recommend this product, especially for people with long thick hair.

I ordered this chalk for my daughter and I to use for an event. We have both used different kinds of chalk several times in the past so we are not new to using it.I applied the chalk to my daughter's hair, which is extremely blonde and to mine which is a red strawberry blonde. When we applied the color it was great! It was vibrant and exactly what we wanted. We used it to make a few highlights and I made sure to put it in places that did not touch skin.The reason I am giving this product 1 star is because within ten minutes of applying it slowly started to bleed onto other sections of our hair thay did touch skin and our necks were covered in the color. Our hair was dry but the chalk did not stop bleeding.The next day when we washed out hair the color remained even after vigorous scrubbing and continued to wear off on our hands while brushing. It is now four days later and we both still have stained hair. It has continued to fade, but if we had wanted it to last we would have purchased dye.I would definitely stick to brands we've used in the past and skip having discolored skin and stained hair. This definitely not what we expected.

Seriously do not recommend this to anyone, it severely dries up your hair so It feels burnt and rough. The color down even look att all great if you have brown hair like me.P.s if you do purchas, make sure you apply moisturizer to your hair before the chalk to protect your hair a little

I read the reviews but this was just too hard to make work on my Daughter's dark hair. Super messy and just not worth the money.Colors aren't as vivid as picture shows.Worked better when wet otherwise not the best thing out there

I got more chalk on myself than in my hair - I attempted to color my nieces hair and the only color that worked on her BLONDE hair was the red... Other than that - it was a waste and just taking up space.If you really want to chalk your hair - get the compact disc that you slide your hair through.

This is by far the worst product I've ever gotten through Amazon.com. This came with no directions in a white cardboard box. The box is nothing like that in the amazon ad for it. The chalk looks like school board chalk. Without the directions, how are you supposed to use these? I originally bought these for my 16 year old niece. Since it took approximately two months to get here, and did not arrive in the predicted time, I had to get her another gift. I'm glad now that I didn't get them. They are nothing but trash, and I'd be afraid to allow her to use them.
