Best way to do taxes
February 24, 2016
Been using turbo tax since it first came out, and will never walk into a tax business again.Only one time we tried to go into a known tax service to see if we could get a better deal, and they did exactly the same thing that my wife did on Turbo, but they charged us double what turbo costs, so we never look back anymore, every year its turbo tax on amazon, the digital download makes it soo much nicer, if I wife has to go back a few years to check something we just log on to Amazon and download it again since its saved in our downloads of Amazon.Thank You Turbo Tax and Amazon!
Give credit when credit is due

I began this year's saga with Turbotax back in December when the rebellion against the new versions was in full swing. I swore that I was done with Intuit forever; I'd rather file manually then to go along with the higher price of the "enhanced" versions for the same features I had always gotten with Deluxe. My review of one star at the time was rejected by Amazon - - I'll admit my anger got the best of me. Happily now I see that Intuit has made good and corrected their marketing fopar. I purchased Deluxe today and immediately received a free upgrade to make it feature neutral with last year's version. A happy customer once again. All's well that ends well. Thank you Intuit for listening to your customers.
Back with TurboTax

Tried to go with a competitor, it couldn't handle my situation with respect to health care insurance. After waiting for weeks to get my issue resolved with the competitor, switched back to TurboTax, which it handled it smoothly.

It's like weebly for your taxes.
December 7, 2016
The only way I actually make myself do taxes. Doing by hand just stinks due to the time and energy. So easy. Such a relief. Better organized and easier to navigate than H&R block software, by far. I'm one of those sick people that sort of enjoys (but yet hates) doing taxes. This takes the hate down really far. It's still taxes, but you don't want to cry anymore because it's just that much easier. Let's put it this way, I waited until August of 2016 to do my 2014 taxes. If I hadn't bought this software, who knows when I would've ever made myself do them. It's like a website builder instead of doing html. Which would you prefer.
TurboTax to the rescue after H&R Block nightmare
December 30, 2015
As I only became a TurboTax customer in 2015 when filing my 2014 return, I wanted to throw in my 5-star experience with TurboTax which I had to switch to at the eleventh hour after hitting a dead-end with H&R Block's awful Home & Business software. While I managed to complete my business return with H&R Block's software, when it came time to submit our personal returns (after filling everything in), the software informed me that that I couldn't e-file and had to physically go to an H&R Block office for calculations that the software couldn't perform. I got on chat with H&R Block and they confirmed that I would have to make an appointment and go in, which completely defeated the purpose of buying the software. The H&R Block software was the first of its kind that I had ever purchased and it made me very leery of all tax prep products. After seeing all the bad reviews long-time customers of TurboTax were leaving about the extortionate price increases, I was hesitant, but as it was already the 13th of April, I decided to take a chance on it.Previously I had done all my small business taxes myself as well as my sister's and my own personal returns using dozens of spreadsheets and PDF fill-in forms which took up at least 1 whole day to fill out and then another day to check the math. After 12-13 years of filling out, printing and mailing about 100 pages of forms each year, TurboTax was a breath of fresh air.As soon as I started re-entering our personal returns into TurboTax, I was knew it was worth every penny. My sister remarked on how unnaturally happy I had become about doing our taxes. I was able to complete and file both our returns so quickly that I was in a bit of a shock for the whole of the next day, which I was able to take off instead of doing taxes.I decided then to come back and take advantage of Amazon's annual tax software sale at new year, which I've just done. I've just ordered the 2015 "Home & Business" and "Business" (for my partnership). Yes, it's pretty expensive, and it'll probably cost an additional $50 when it comes time to file my state business return, but I think the time and aggravation saved will be well worth it.For those who like lists of features ...What I Loved about this TurboTax product:• The interface is well-designed;• Text and buttons easy on the eyes (in direct contrast to the H&R Block software - details below);• User-friendly;• Fast and painless entry process;• Paying my balance electronically was a breeze; and• I actually had FUN doing my taxes for the first time in 13 years! In contrast, the H&R Block software:• Looked like it was designed in the early 90s;• Was very user-unfriendly;• Was tiny and un-zoomable that I got migraines from leaning forward and squinting to read the words;• Was a nightmare to edit/make corrections;• Laborious and confusing entry process;• Took ages to file and came back with errors the next day; and• I never got confirmation if my returns actually went through.** TurboTax vs. H&R Block Entry Process **The main difference between the two are that the H&R Block software is basically a computerized tax form repository. You had to select the various forms you needed and fill them out using their clumsy interface. A lot of times, I would click on a field to try to edit it, but wasn't able to.TurboTax, on the other hand, is an interview-like process and you don't have to choose or fill out "tax forms". You input your figures during the interview and the software generates the forms for you based on your entries.
Great product.

I have been using TurboTax for the past three years. There is no way I can by myself handle all the paperwork and gain knowledge of possible deductions related to my tax situation. With TurboTax, all of that is done automatically for me. I have so much data associated with my returns that it still takes me a few days to enter it all, but I am thinking that I am saving many more days that I would otherwise have to spend making sure I was getting all the deductions I am entitled to. More than that, TurboTax takes care of ensuring that I am generating all the tax forms necessary to my situation. If I am curious about a deduction, or about a form, I get the answer quickly from TurboTax. Great product.
Relieved that it still works well.
April 6, 2015
I've used TurboTax Home/Business for several years and have always been satisfied with its performance and results. So I was incredibly concerned when I read all the bad reviews, all the problems, glitches, etc., that some customers are having. Whenever I see so many poor reviews, I take notice. So instead I decided to try H&$ Block software for the very first time. It loaded fine, no problems. However, I was amazed that it is nowhere near as intuitive as TurboTax. The import features from Quicken simply did not work (unlike the claims made by H&R), and I would've had to input just about everything manually. Because I always seem to wait until almost the end to start fiddling with taxes, I simply did not want to go through the frustrations of having to do too many manual steps. Thus, I held my breath and plunged ahead to order TurboTax Home/Business - taking a risk. Well, it loaded as easily as it always has been. I was immediately able to import all my data from Quicken and from ItsDeductible site, plus import from other institutions, etc. After I corrected some errors on my part that I had made in Quicken, TurboTax gave me the results of my 1040 to review. I must honestly say that I am thrilled and relieved. No doubt some of the consumers who have had problems with it have legitimate gripes, and that can be extremely frustrating. Intuit has been ramping up their products to be more expensive and less compatible with others every year. QuickBooks is a software that drives me totally nuts - it not only gets more expensive for a small business to handle the price of it, but also the fact that the software really has not improved very much in 20 years. But that's another story.I cannot address the complaints about e-file charges in TurboTax. When I got ready to e-file, I read carefully to make sure I would not be charged. I was not charged for the e-filing service.I am sharing with you my experience - but please do not go by what I say. Like I had to do, you have to make your own decision on what may work for you.
Good Stuff

Some people love this some hate it. There is not much selection for tax software but I have always liked Turbo Tax and it has always worked well for me. Simple and easy it walks you through everything. Wish there was a feature to disable a section to see if its worth taking a deduction without having to enter it again. All in all I think its great software and this could be a biased review since I have not used any other software.
Great Product - Consistent results, Easy to use, Covers many tax situations
February 24, 2015
I have used Turbo Tax for ten years for home and one - two small businesses. We have dealt with many personal itemization situations, multiple W-2's from different municipalities, education, investments, business loss and gain, and through it all Turbo Tax has easily walked us through each situation to ensure our taxes are accurate. Turbo Tax makes it easy to work on each section systematically one at a time and also move freely back and forth between sections at your pace. You can save and review your tax documents at any time prior to e-filing. If you are organized and have all of your documents, you will be pleasantly surprised how quick it is to enter the data. I feel the product is fairly priced when you compare the costs of having taxes done by an accountant. While I do like this product, if you have questions, you may still need to refer to the IRS website and publications for answers, I think this is quicker and more prudent than relying on the Intuit Help. This is your money, you still need to understand the why and the how. I am a happy product consumer and recommend this product to others.

Great product, ugly price policy changes
June 5, 2015
I tried HR Block software first, and finished my entire return before finding out that it couldn't handle the 2014 changes dealing with healthcare reform. I'm self employed and the Block product simply couldn't deal with the combination of self employed and using Obamacare. When I called them, they said they had just received the final information they needed from the Feds in February and hadn't had time to adjust for the changes. Their solution was to download some extremely complex tax forms from the IRS and figure it out myself. Very frustrating and a total waste of my time and money.TurboTax, on the other hand, was complete and worked perfectly with this and all the other issues. I got done very quickly (of course I had all my records and receipts together by then from the previous aborted filing attempt. The two products are fairly equal, though different, in their approach to asking questions and helping you work through the process. It was easy to e-file my federal return, though I didn't want to pay the extra for the state e-file and simply printed and mailed that version.TurboTax is understandably getting raked over the coals for the changes they made in pulling some things out of their deluxe version and requiring an update to Premium. I've used TurboTax in the past and this change was the thing that caused me to try HR Block. TurboTax has gotten too expensive and this move to drive many of us to an even more expensive version is ugly. But there is nothing else out there that works as well. I'm going to bite the bullet and continue with TurboTax even in the face of their price policies (which are admittedly nasty). I guess you get what you pay for. The nice thing is that at least by buying at Amazon I got a good deal on the price.Overall, TurboTax seems to be a very good program and it's wonderful that they have enough professionals working on it to make the product complete, even in a very difficult situation.
Works for me
May 10, 2015
Pretty easy to use. Especially like the import and comparison of the previous year's information if one used trubotax last year. Most answers can be found in the help sections. Very little need to know about tax laws, etc. Occasionally after an error check they ask you to fill in a blank on a form that requires some translation from account-type jargon, but most of it is explained in the more user friendly input format that is used as an interface for you to input your specific numbers. For some reason unknown to me, federal e-file is free, but the state e-file is not. Also, they include one free download of a state, but charge what seems to be quite a bit for the second state. This seems weird to me. I simply rent out a house in another state, have very little to claim. Seems like it would cost turbotax very little to allow a user to download an extra state. Mostly, I'm pretty pleased, fairly quick input system, pretty thorough question and answer system, and fairly glitch free program for a small family run business.
Accurate and Fast
April 19, 2015
We use TurboTax for our 1040 and State tax returns. Before, I did our own sole proprietorship taxes for decades, but was prone to not carrying over numbers correctly across the forms. TurboTax fixed all of that right away and the math is perfect. I've usedTurboTax for two years now, and like it. The only thing is, you have to enter much of your information and figures on special information forms, because TurboTax is a database. It then spreads the information and figures across all necessary tax forms and fills them. The program is a bit pricy, and you have to buy a new one every year. But it is up to date, fast, and well worth the cost.
Switched over from H&R Block this year, and much happier with TurboTax.
April 9, 2015
I don't think it is possible to LOVE tax prep software, but this is much better than the H&R Block Tax Software Premium + State package I was trying to use. Our taxes are pretty complicated - one full-time job, plus two small businesses - and the H&R Block software simply didn't cut it when it came to explaining why things were the way they were. I like that TurboTax offers clear explanations of how the tax code works and why things have to be done/calculated a certain way.
Glad to be back with TurboTax
February 25, 2015
As usual, I like the way that TurboTax guides me through the whole process, directing me to the appropriate IRS documents if I want to read them. The questions and answers under "Help" also provide information that I find very helpful especially when an answer is from a TurboTax expert. When I became a self-employed consultant, I had my taxes done by an accountant. It cost me hundreds of dollars and I think some of the deductions he took for me were not always appropriate. After two years of that, I am back to TurboTax where I can make my own decisions based on IRS publications and expert advice. I spend a lot less money and am more comfortable with the level of potential problems if I am audited.I also tried H&R Block software a few years ago and found it to be less intuitive to use than TurboTax.

I'm not angry enough to write a one star review ...
April 11, 2015
I'm not angry enough to write a one star review cause it did my taxes properly in under 30 minutes by copying all kinds of information from my last tax return without me having to dig through tons of drawers. But, why the bait and switch? Why tell me the product comes with federal and state efile, then CHARGE me $40 more to use the feature? I mean, I would have paid $80 to know my very simple taxes could be done in minutes. I kinda felt ripped off. Even tho I would have paid that money for the convenience. I mean, at the very least, the title of this is very misleading. It should just say Tax Software ONLY. Additional fees will apply to efile.
Fortunately I didn't need the schedules they deleted this year ...
March 15, 2015
Fortunately I didn't need the schedules they deleted this year so would rate it a 3, Still a pretty sleazy marketing approach. Why would you screw up the equity of a market leader with a boneheaded money grab instead of an honest price increase if that was what you wanted. If your customers are smart enough to be doing their own taxes with your product then they're smart enough to see through your tactics. And the the lame excuse that you were leveling the features across online and download versions of the program made sense to absolutely no one. Even if this were true , presenting it as if it was a benefit to consumers is quite a load even for a marketing weasel in damage control mode.
Overpriced Tax software, this is coming from a tax ...

Overpriced Tax software, this is coming from a tax professional. Unless you itemized your deduction, I suggest the many free options available.
but I am still a little disappointed that I had to complain to get the situation ...
March 3, 2015
Got half way through my return and when I tried to enter business income Turbo tax informed me that I had to purchase additional software for business income and expense. Since I have been using Turbo tax Deluxe since 2006 for my business, I called Intuit to register a complaint..The party I spoke to at Intuit apologized for the inconvenience and upgraded my software immediately, and at no charge. I later received an email apology from Sasan Goodzari. At this point everything seems O.K., but I am still a little disappointed that I had to complain to get the situation resolved.
Not at all happy with the new variants of TurboTax
January 6, 2015
Not at all happy with the new variants of TurboTax. I ordered the deluxe version which I have used for many years only to find out that it no longer allows income from a partnership K1. It prompted me to spend an additional $30 to step up to the next level. The product descriptions at the website are not very clear on what can be done with each version. This will probably be my last year with Turbo Tax.
Too many losses over too many years
December 2, 2014
I am very sorry to see the loss of support for schedule D in the Deluxe edition. I've been using TurboTax every year since 1986. I'm afraid I've finally reached the breaking point and will have to switch products. From my standpoint, TurboTax has been slowly degrading its capability over the years. I know my issues don't affect everyone, but they do affect me:The latest - loss of Schedule D (all the explanations are really B.S. It is just a price rise.)Prices jumping significantly with no increase in functionality - especially in times of low inflation.Earlier - loss of Schedule C (although I no longer use it every year)Dumbing down the user interface. I used to primarily use Forms view when it gave all the built-in help when needed. Now you pretty much have to use the Q&A view to get help and it's not always immediately obvious what forms are being updated.Much earlier - loss of ability to enter receipts for the following year as you got them and have them all picked up along with the previous year's tax return when you purchased the new version.Update 12/29/14: OK, I admit to overreacting a bit. Most of that was the result of the "claim" that this wasn't a price hike. I still like TurboTax and have usually rated in 5 stars. I still can't do that this year because of the price hike and the way it was handled. However, at least for this year, the offer of a free upgrade to Premium does cover the pain. So, I'm raising my review from 1 star to 3 stars. I know I'll have to buy Premium next year so I may be disappointed then, but I won't be unpleasantly surprised again. Price hikes do occur, and while I'm never happy, I understand that they do.

FAILED to accurately import prior year from Taxcut and FAILED to provide data issue warning so had to redue 2013 AND 2014!
September 29, 2016
Cost me dearly in time and effort because import from Taxcut 2013 FAILED despite "import completed successfully" message and Intuit's only fix to known issue "oh, that doesn't work!", after hours of work and frustration, was to provide "free" 2013 version so that I could "enjoy" reentering all my Taxcut data into it after reexporting all my 2012 TurboTax to 2013 TurboTax. Ended up having to do while traveling abroad to meet final tax filing dead line. A MAJOR distraction, huge time and effort. Lack of "import failed" message is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.
[Old Version 2014] - Experienced issue(s) with Healthcare.gov policies, but was eventually resolved and able to file.
February 1, 2016
The software worked as you'd usually expect TurboTax to perform, however, there was an issue with e-filing any tax returns if you had a Healthcare.gov provided insurance policy. Regardless if employee provided, or self enrolled. The issue I experienced was that I could complete the returns but due to issues with the forms they were rejected by the IRS every time. This was a pretty widespread issue for this software in the 2014 year, but I have no doubt TurboTax will improve on it and resolve these issue(s).I've used TurboTax for my taxes as far back as I can remember and they have never failed me before, and even with the issue(s) I was eventually able to file my taxes and unlike some it wasn't that big of a deal as I don't usually get a large refund just love to get it out of the way as soon as possible so that it is one less thing on the list to-do.
Product Is Fine. Ordering It Here Wasn't So Good.
December 15, 2015
There's nothing particularly wrong with the product. I've used it for about six straight calendar years. What's a nightmare is the downloading process from Amazon. I ended up inadvertently buying two copies within two minutes of each other. Apparently TurboTax, Visa, and Amazon could not believe that I didn't have need for two copies, even though I pleaded the mistake. So I'm out a hundred bucks. I probably won't buy TurboTax in the future, but if I do, it'll be from an office supply store. You should consider this fair warning.
State efile not included
March 31, 2015
Small note at the bottom right of the page "Note: State preparation and printing is included in this version. State E-file is available at an additional charge. Internet access required. Not for use by paid preparers."I personally thought this was the case, but they really should have made it more obvious. Combine that with some of the issues I had this year, (having to seek external help way more than last year) I would only give this 3/5 stars.
Good software with clunky business section. State is broken and not working at all right now.
January 29, 2015
This is an excellent option for doing your taxes. I'm pretty irritated that they've forced upgrades this year rather than allowing you to do your Schedule C on the deluxe version like you could in previous years. This is the first time I did a full on business return though, so I probably would have upgraded anyway in the end. The business section is pretty clunky compared to the ease of use on the personal side, but I think I got all the deductions I was expecting. The state is having a problem and I've put in a technical support request for it. It's not allowing me to even start the my state return and is stuck in a loop. Overall its a good program and they gor 3 stars because of the forced upgrades this year. I know on competing software you don't have to upgrade to do a schedule C.
Doesn't import H&R Block 2013 files, despite "supporting" this...
December 26, 2014
UPDATED REVIEW:After one of the many updates pushed out by Intuit, the problem was resolved and I was able to import the .T13 file. The user interface of this is a bit odd, but overall it now meets my needs.ORIGINAL REVIEW:Started off well. Went to import last year's tax file (H&R Block .T13 file) and got the "Cannot transfer file" error. Turbotax/Intuit support pages are useless. Intuit live support isn't around until Monday 12/29.If it won't import last year's file, I'm returning for a refund. This just makes me dislike Intuit and their products even more than I already do (not like there's much choice for personal finance software anymore).

TurboTax download problem
February 17, 2015
I bought the download version from Amazon. Later, I learned I needed to upgrade to the Home/Business version. But there was one small catch-- I needed a confirmation number, which was not provided with my download. When I attempted to contact TT support, I was placed in a queue lasting several hours. When I finally got a call-back, I was placed on hold and then lost in cyberspace as someone passed me down the line. So, now 2 days later, I haven't a confirmation number and I can't upgrade. So, no matter how generous TT's offer to provide 'free' upgrades for what used to be a standard part of the Deluxe version, it makes it very difficult/impossible to actually get the support necessary to take advantage of that offer
I Should Have Listened....
February 9, 2015
I should have listened to the reviews. I purchased this software to do my taxes as I have done for the last 11 years, not worrying about the schedules issue because I don't need them. I was disappointed because the price, even with the Prime member reduction was almost twice that of H and R Blocks software and THEN to top it off, they charged me $19.99 to file my state taxes. The corporate greed is astounding. Next year I will not be back to TurboTax.

Disappointed With 2014 Deluxe package

bait and switch
February 2, 2015
This was my first time using Turbo Tax and I was reluctant to use it when reading the reviews but after hearing a friend praise the software, I decided to give it a try. I downloaded the software after purchasing it on Amazon and immediately began the process. Let me first say that it is immensley user friendly. It honestly guides the user through the questions and I think it's great for anyone who becomes overwhelmed with filing their taxes. I also enjoyed the ticker at the top that estimates your refund/payment and changes as you enter new information. At the end of the process when I was about to efile my return, I was given a bill for $54.98 with the charges of:Turbo Tax Virginia State E-file Fee $19.99Refund Processing Service Fee $34.99I just want to ask what was the $39 that I originally paid for? I get it that everyone looks for opportunities to upsell but I really feel taken advantage of. I purchased a product that states efile is included... if it's included there shouldn't have been a refund processing service fee. Please be more forthcoming with the price.Update: I called to ask what the $34.99 charge listed as Refund Processing Fee was for and was told that I choose to pay the $19.99 Virginia State E-File Fee from my refund versus paying it with a credit card and that is the reason for the charge. I said that I understand but I didn't see an explanation for this when I made the decision; if I would have known that paying with a credit card would have been free of extra charges versus an extra charge for paying from the return, I would have gladly paid with a credit card. He said that was a common problem that people had. I'm not sure if the problem is due to my ignorance but I really think that they made everything so well explained throughout the process of filing, I am sure they could have done a better job of explaining this. I learned my lesson I hope others avoid this mistake and hope that Turbo Tax makes it better understood on their next version.
BUYER BEWARE IF YOU SOLD YOUR HOME IN 2014
December 15, 2014
Buyer beware ... if you sold your home in 2014, TurboTax Deluxe doesn't handle this situation and you will be asked to upgrade to Premier for another $30. So, instead of paying an extra $20 from Amazon to buy Premier in the first place, Intuit wants you to pay another $30. The issue is the potential for capital gains, which Deluxe can't handle. In reality, most homes are sold at a loss, like mine, therefore there are no capital gains. This is a giant RIPOFF. There is nothing clearly documented on the TurboTax site, or the Amazon site, that specifically discusses this, even though selling a home is one of the most common things a taxpayer does. I've been using TurboTax for a couple of decades ... this will be the LAST time.

and while it wasn't a terrible difference, got more back on her refund
April 14, 2015
I've been using TurboTax for a few years now (SO has been using it for 10+ years) and never had any problems with it. I even decided to buy it despite the negative reviews on here, which I normally don't do. While it did what needed to be done for my taxes, it would NOT let me e-file my mom's state taxes while paper filing the federal one. I ended up re-entering all the information doing them on H&R Block's website anyway, and while it wasn't a terrible difference, got more back on her refund. The bottomline is: if I'm paying $80 for this software, I should not have to use a competitor's website to finish doing my taxes! It's completely asinine. Sorry Intuit, but you're no longer the only game in town. Fix your software and listen to customers if you want to keep those who've been loyal to you for a decade. Next year I'm switching to H&R Block.
Another 20 year customer ready to drop Intuit
April 11, 2015
I'm writing this review in protest of Intuit's new pricing structure, forcing you to buy the most expensive version if you need to do a Sch C that isnt trivial. Like so many others, I have used TT for at least 20 years. I was going to switch to H&R Block, but there appear to be issues with importing if you have used TT's Business version. Plus the reviews on the HRB software are at least as bad as those here. It's too bad, because I would gladly tell Intuit to stick it. After using Quicken for 20 years as well, I dropped it after 2011. Every version was buggier than the last, and it had gotten to the point where it was unusable. Intuit continues to ruin once great products, and does not care about it's long-time customers. (Their once decent medical expense program, Quicken Medical Manager, was broken in version 2 and then abandoned, leaving a customer base with serious medical problems unable to even get their historical data out of the program). If HRB figures out how to import all the business data, they may have one more convert from Intuit next year.
Caution: buy ONLY if you have some experience with taxes!!!
April 2, 2015
Have used Turbo-Tax as long as its been out (straying to try other products some), and the Home and Business 2014 is the worst product of all. Instead of making just one or two quality products, Turbo-Tax has tried to raise their price point by making "specialty" combinations catering to investments OR business OR etc. etc. This year, the questions and presentation were out of line with my expectations. I could have done my taxes faster with pencil and paper! There were places I expected to see certain figures but they weren't there, screen presentations that didn't match figures on the 1040, worksheets that never show on your screen but are the source for entries, random figures that showed up on the State that I didn't enter, and I still don't know where they came from, and the State would have been a lot faster if TT had asked the right questions in the proper places on original entry. I have done taxes for many years and yet spent 1.5 days trying to get the State form correct. And forget just trying to print a blank form or a particular page, you can't (well, there are ways). To be fair, the Fed was correct. State was not. Do not buy this product if you don't have some experience with deductions, investments, or business expenses.
Disappointed, more expensive, less value
March 16, 2015
Used H&R Block for last few years and was very disappointed with TurboTax. I used TT several years ago until competitors became cheaper and I found just as accurate and useful. I switched back to TT upon a recommendation from a friend who told me that my small business records could be imported from Quickbooks. I thought that timesaver was worth the more expensive software (especially since you must buy a higher level to get small business forms). What a disappointment. My previous years' information from tax returns completed in H&R Block would not import. I spent hours on the TT Community and with TT support (25 minute wait to answer my call) to no avail. I am still waiting on the promised partial refund for my inconvenience. I also found that when i was looking for something specific, like when comparing my 2013 to 2014 return (because I had no imported data!!!!) that I had forgotten business asset depreciation because I don't manage that in Quickbooks. Well, took me 10 minutes or so to find where in the program I needed to go. Same with some insurance info i wanted to update. With H&R Block, it was always very helpful and provided links to "go to form" for where the info referenced could be updated. As a previous user of TurboTax user, my opinion is that they are charging more and providing less value. This year, I have no super simple reports to help me compare previous year's info, and since I do my dad's and son's returns, I have to enter every single bit of data for 3 returns! I only gave it 2 stars because it is functional and a couple of things like AMT is better explained than in H&R Block.
TURBOTAX change support for 1096/1099/W2 in Home and Business and removes access to your historical data.
March 1, 2015
Beware January update removes support for efile of 1096/1099/w-2 part of Turbotax Home and Business. Here is the story purchased 11/2014 began as the forms became available in Dec went to the part that supports 1096/1099 it login into the site: https://iop.intuit.com/login/login2.jsp began the transfer from last year to this year and entered all the new information - Important to note all the information is stored only on the site. I was already just needed to wait for the accountant to validate and file (filing date 03/02/2015). On 03/01 went to just due the efile since I had entered all the data - There is no more data and you can not get to the site from TurboTax. They found out that in January they removed this capability and you can only due paper filing- there is nothing that tells you this. This is a key feature for the purchase of Home and Business. It is available in Intuit payroll and Proseries. I paid for this as it was an advertised feature. Additionally I can not get at my 2013 data as my account is now blocked with a message that : This account does not have payroll access. Ticket number 410732609 for those that want to make a reference to it.
I have always liked turbo tax
December 26, 2014
I have always liked turbo tax, but these folks do not listen to your improvement comments such as allowing a blank sheet to explain deductions or expenses so that you can e-file. Additionally, this year the deluxe addition which used to cover capital gains on sch.D and rental income on sch.E is no longer available and you are required to bump up to their more expensive version,,,,about twice the cost. Boo turbo!

I don't know how I didn't see all the reviews ...
February 5, 2015
I don't know how I didn't see all the reviews here when I ordered the same version I have ordered for oh so many years.......Woe is me.Needless to say, I am requesting a refund and am moving on to another method of doing my taxes. I would rather use an abacus than give my allegiance to a company that would trade on my unsuspecting and naive nature. It is unfortunate that Amazon has no method of giving zero stars.
TIME TO SWITCH!!! DON'T BUY IF YOU HAVE ANY INVESTMENTS!
December 28, 2014
I almost bought and downloaded, because as a Prime member, Deluxe only costs $40 this year. I have used TurboTax for 15+ years, and the "Deluxe" version for the past few years. Then I wondered why all of the negative reviews. The elimination of Schedule D (and I assume Form 8949) from eFile is a major issue for anyone who has and investments. That only 2-4% of Deluxe users fall into this boat simply means that Intuit has been very successful in up-selling past users to the Premier tier. So those 2-4% of remaining low hanging fruit need to be pruned from this version. Funny how last year Deluxe actually imported Cost Basis from my Vanguard and TD accounts. Oh yeah, that is because of IRS rule changes.Bottom-line. InTuit just lost another long term customer. It looks like HR Block imports TurboTax data, so it should be easy enough. Thanks to other Amazon customer for bringing this gouging to light.
Intuit kisses the corporate blarney stone again
December 16, 2014
My use of TurboTax would have reached drinking age this year, but I will be ending my relationship with Intuit instead. It has been on the rocks for some time, with the decimation of Quicken for Mac finally forcing me into other software. But I continued to use Turbotax because it was easy, and I had a backlog of files in that program. Changing is always difficult. Throughout my relationship with Intuit, I have been frequently amazed with the arrogant disdain they display for their customers. Over in the reviews for the PC version, Intuit VP Bob Meighan has responded to a number of the 1-star reviews (why can't we give zero stars?) with the drivel that you can still do the commonly needed forms that have been removed from the Deluxe version using the forms method and mailing them in. Mr. Meighan knows perfectly well that people don't buy Turbotax to use forms. He knows that people are buying e-file as part of the cost of the program, and that the method he espouses won't work with e-file. Blarney it is, and blarney it will remain, because Intuit doesn't care about the anger of it's customers. They've been through it before, they've stuck to policies their customers hated, and they still made money. So why bother with a bunch of malcontent customers?UPDATE: I've been pleasantly surprised. I bought the Mac version of the H&R Block Tax Preparation software Deluxe edition download version. A couple of clicks and it was downloaded, a couple more and it was installed, and a final couple to import my 2013 TurboTax info without error. Installation with Turbotax has not always been that easy. One year they had to replace the disk, another year I had to go to a special download location, because the regular one delivered an installer that didn't work. And Hey, Friends, how about this for a bonus? H&R Block's Tax Prep software is significantly cheaper than TurboTax. Of course, you may have a different experience with the install and import, but if you're bothered by Turbotax's 2014 changes, I'd say give H&R Block a try.
Goodbye Intuit!
December 16, 2014
I should of read these reviews before purchasing this watered down product. I was also a Turbo Tax user every year since the software first became available. The greed factor has certainly played out at Intuit. Since I need schedule D this year I will also be purchasing H&R Block software to file my return, as well as future years. H&R Block has been in the tax business far longer than Intuit anyway. Goodbye Intuit, you just received my last payment!

December 8, 2014
After purchasing this software on December 4, I imported data from a 2014 tax projection that I had prepared with TurboTax 2013 and prepared both Federal and Virginia 2014 tax returns (using estimated figures where final amounts are not yet available). The Federal return outcome was consistent with my projection but the Virginia state return showed that, instead of a projected refund, I would owe the Virginia Taxation Department nearly $600 dollars! When I checked the state return, line by line, I found that TurboTax was not entering my age deduction of $12,000 automatically as it should have (and as it has done in previous years).I checked the information worksheet data on the returns to ensure that my date-of-birth and age information was correct and found that it was. Having concluded that a glitch in the software must be causing the problem, I attempted to report it to TurboTax but found, to my amazement, that there was no way I could do so. When I finally reached the "Contact Us" link, all I got was a blank page! From this frustrating experience I concluded that Turbo Tax is doing all it can to avoid having to interact with customers. Moreover, it seems that the company has let a desire to get the 2014 product out ahead of the competition override quality concerns.I now have no confidence that TurboTax 2014 will produce accurate tax returns and have decided to replace it with another company's tax preparation software. As a result, TurboTax has lost a long-time customer.
they were all there and the software easily imported my carryover records from the 2013 turbotax file
December 7, 2014
Although a long time user of turbotax (satisfaction and habit), I have decided it is time to consider alternatives. Unlike many 5-star raters on this blog that seem to think that turbotax is the only alternative to CPAs and retail preparers (like H&R Block offices), there are tax software alternatives available also. Because of habit, satisfaction, and resistance to change I had not evaluated them previously.I contacted Bob, the VP of turbotax, and he advised me that the changes were necessary because "it was causing problems for 10 million customers at the expense of a very small fraction of the others." I'm guessing most of us on this blog are apparently a part of this small fraction of others. Considering that people who do not need schedules C, D, E, F, and K-1 probably do not care either way, I think this suggest Intuit hopes to get an additional $300 million revenue (10 million users who apparently care times $30 per upgrade); don't let anyone say it is not about the money/revenue!! But, that is Intuit's business; customers just have to go where they think the value is. So, getting out of past habit, I purchased the 2014 H&R Block Basic software for $19.95 retail. I need Schedules C, D, E, and F; they were all there and the software easily imported my carryover records from the 2013 turbotax file, including depreciation records and carryover values (capital gains and passive losses). I have now completed my pro-forma return and year-end tax review without issue.Bob suggested that they were providing free upgrades to everyone who contacted them; of course, this is for this year only and is probably an attempt to quite the current hoopla. My question is why someone should have to call to get this benefit. Are some customers preferred over others? Further, since you are not likely to get this benefit next year, maybe it is time to bite the bullet and look at other tax software alternatives (not CPAs and tax preparers).I found the H&R Block Basic tax software quite easy to use and it costs a fraction of both turbotax deluxe and premier versions. If you need more handholding you can buy up to premium H&R tax-software versions and at a cost significantly less than turbotax premier. If you do not need handholding, all of the forms are there and do not require manual intervention in order to file your taxes. I conclude that I have probably been oversubscribing to my needs for many years by using turbotax deluxe.I think having to purchase turbotax premier version to get Schedules C, D, E, F moves turbotax out of the acceptable value category; cost is not commensurate with value received and with the available alternatives (actually, I think to get Schedule F, one may have to move to the Home & Business version at even higher cost). But rather than getting mad at Intuit, it's probably just time to move on. If Intuit has 10 million customers that will pay the price of premier (or home & business) turbotax to get basic forms, then there is nothing that a group numbering less than millions is going to achieve by complaining. My guess is that perhaps they may have mis-categorized their customer base and may not have the millions who will pay that premium. But even if they take corrective actions now on this current strategy, I still suggest it is time to move on, as this is the Intuit's second attempt to take away capability under the table; how long before the third time will crop up?In the meantime, if you or friends are going to use turbotax, by all means call and get the free upgrade for this year. Just don't forget to look for your long term solution, as the free upgrade is probably a one-time transitional offer.

This now hurts more than paying a CPA! 10+ year customer has been lost!

I have had a need/hate relationship with Intuit products for over a decade. I hate them so much but I haven't been able to find a better option for what I've needed.Let me say THIS IS THE WORST WORST WORST VERSION OF TURBOTAX I'VE EVER HAD TO ENDURE!!!!!!I read the reviews and decided most of the one star reviews were for people complaining about the price change for small businesses needing to buy the most expensive version. I've always gotten this version so it didn't bother me to buy it again.Even without the price changes this software is horrible and deserves a one star or less. I've had to restart putting together my tax information four times now because once I check on option it won't let me go back to change it. I can't figure out exactly what I need to be doing, so it is a trial and error process right now because their help and support are such a joke (they know it is so bad they even encourage you to help other sufferers of their crap program). Who knows how many attempts this will take before I finally get it done correctly. I'm near the point of just navigating the forms view and seeing what I can come up with on my own. This is the last year I will ever do this to myself. Next year I will spend the extra money to have my taxes prepared and filed. TurboTax isn't a good deal anymore if it eats up days or weeks of my life trying to navigate their hot mess of a program in my free time.
GARBAGE. ABSOLUTE GARBAGE
February 8, 2015
GARBAGE. ABSOLUTE GARBAGE !This year's TurboTax product was beyond words. Besides the State Tax Fraud Issues on CNN, The Insane Price and Mass Confusion with current customers..... The Product and Support was beyond words. Not only was it flaky - It did NOT work right - Especially for the State Products. They accepted the money to e-file state, but NEVER e-filed and the Printed State Forms contain a Watermark saying "DO NOT FILE" and "FORM NOT FINAL" - Hidden Surprise for E-Filers ???? - Congratulations Intuit...... You will lose more than 50%of your Sales Next Year. Paper and Pen would have been more predictable and safe.
I'm done with Turbo Tax. Simple problems that took hours with customer support went unsolved by them.
February 7, 2015
I've been a small business owner for 35 year and have used Turbo Tax Home & Business since 2007. Had a glitch in January 2014 trying to fill out W-2's and 1099's for my employees and subcontractors. After opening the TT program, updating etc., I click on the link which opens a new tab to the "Quick Employers Forms" page. All my information from previous years is stored there so all I have to do is enter the amounts paid plus any Federal withholding. The problem I had was as if I hadn't purchased the new software, which I did. As soon as I clicked on "Create a New Form" an error message said "It appears you have not purchased the most recent version of Turbo Tax Home & Business"......After spending an hour on the phone with customer support it was determined my CD I purchased from Sam's club was corrupt. They emailed me a link to download a free version from the Intuit website. After uninstalling the CD version and installing the downloaded version I had the same issue. Called support again and was finally able to speak with a level 2 tech. After about 15 minutes he figured it out. All I had to do was sign in on on the Turbo Tax home page first, then go to the "Quick Employers Forms" page. For the 2014 tax year I decided to purchase the software here on amazon. Hoping I'd have no troubles it was clear sailing until it came to print the 14 w-2's and 1099's. The dreaded error message said:"We're Sorry... We're not ready to print yet. Error check found the following: Unknown Error"Not what I wanted to hear and so close to the mailing deadline. Another grueling 2 hours with tech support. I was handed off from one person to the next, with hold times averaging 15-20 minutes. They were stumped. I decided to post my problem on the Turbo Tax community forum - AnswerXchange. There was already someone posting the same question... "Can't print any W-2 or 1099 documents....Within 3 or 4 hours someone solved the problem. All they did was switch their browser from Google Chrome to I.E.. In my case I was using Firefox. Why couldn't anyone from customer support figure this one out?
NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!
February 6, 2015
I have never steered someone away from a product on Amazon - until now. Not only was I forced to buy a more-expensive version of software in order to get the features that were INCLUDED in the lower-tiered version last year, I now find out I paid extra for the filing of a state return - AND THEY'VE TURNED OFF ELECTRONIC STATE FILING UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE DUE TO FRAUD! If that wasn't enough, it has come-to-light that Intuit has allowed the customers that have purchased the lower-tiered software FREE UPGRADES to the features the rest of us had to PAY EXTRA FOR in this version! Forget it TurboTax. I have been using your product for nearly 2 decades. ENOUGH! Sorry Amazon, this product is not going to produce much more revenue for you as it is now laden with falsehoods as to its functionality - or lack thereof.

February 6, 2015
DO NOT USE! I found that non-inherited HRA contributions are counted as if they were inherited income and taxed. I wonder how many people buy Turbotax assuming it handles the tax calculations correctly and have been over-taxed. There have been other calculations that seem suspicious. Now the State of MN won't accept filings from Turbotax (although that may only apply to online use, it's another major issue.) I'm going to start over with another package. Turbotax just lost a long term customer. I will never trust their software again.

December 29, 2014
Really should not have been released in this form. Way too many bugs! Not just little stuff, but things like estimated tax payments and business mileage are not being handled properly. I bought it early to do some last minute estimating for year-end moves, and it is utterly useless for those of us with self-employment income. I have been using this for years, but I may actually go back to the paper versions because of the poor testing.Seriously, get some new faces for your tax "experts" too - they are the same ones for about the last 3 years, and they still have the same years of experience! Yes, I opened them up side-by-side, same people at the same spots. But mostly, test your software before releasing it.
