Five Star Reviews: | 61% Meets expectations June 20, 2017 Bought to supplement my walk behind weed whacker. Works decent for being a battery powered unit. Light and easy to use in tight spots.Decent upgrade over the older 18 volt firestorm unit I had previously. Extremely easy to assemble and battery came charged. Perfect! May 22, 2017 Love it, very powerful and well built! I am now lessening my Carbon Footprint when attending to my lawn and shrubs! Works great March 15, 2017 Have only had for a couple of weeks but it works great! Takes on some tough weeds and not to heavy or bulky for me to use. I'm 5'2 so being able to adjust the length is great I felt like I spent more time fixing/adjusting it than actually whacking ... February 7, 2017 I'm a gearhead, and as such, prefer engines on as many things as possible.I had a 2-stroke weed whacker for years, and while it murdered weeds with impunity, I felt like I spent more time fixing/adjusting it than actually whacking weeds. This little electric trimmer fixed all that. It's about 3x lighter than the engine version, the handle adjusts to your height/angle preference, the head can be turned 90 degrees to get edges, and the lithium battery can run at full tilt for an hour plus, easily. It recharges fast and comes with an extra battery, so there's basically no downtime in your weed massacring sessions. The spools are a little tricky to replace (don't let the spring loose or you'll find yourself winding it back together manually, which sucks), but once you figure it out, it's quick and easy to drop in new line. Lightweight, compact, powerful enough for wild growth (SEE VIDEO) December 20, 2016 Got this unit for my second home to which I am not always around and therefore did not want the trouble of a gas unit. I was a little concerned about the power output being able to handle wild weed growth and not really grass per se. This unit certainly has enough power as seen in the video, it does chomp down the weeds without bogging down. It could probably handle even more without issues. But as seen in the video, it does take a little longer to accomplish than a gas unit. Still, I'd prefer this battery powered unit anyday as I do not have to deal with the problems of a gas unit only being periodically used. I was able to do about half hour of weed whacking and it still has enough juice, so the stock battery is also sufficient. Overall, a great value. Unit is also compact, to which the pole will adjust for storage purposes. Very well engineered product. Satisfied With This Tool July 6, 2016 Seems like a very convenient tool.It is light and seems to work for the little amount of trimming I have to do.It's nice that it shares it's battery pack with other Black and Decker tools.(Though I do not currently own any other black and decker tools but this trimmer) I am hoping it will perform well and do what I require.I like that it isn't very noisy | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 19% Good Enough - Simple tasks around a well manicured lawn is what this excels at October 9, 2017 For the price this is a nice little trimmer/weed eater for moderate / easy trimming that needs to be accomplished in short little intervals. If your weekly trimming consists of longer grass (longer than say 4 inches) or larger areas of thicker grass this may not be the best solution but for areas that the mower couldn't reach, like against the house or along a fence post or fence in general then this is a good solution. I use it for the previously mentioned areas along with edging and it handles everything pretty well. Yes, it does get bogged down periodically but it does well enough for me. I don't see a need for a 40v or gas powered trimmer for my needs as this does well enough. If you have some hardcore weeds or anything taller than 4-5" that could be described as " slightly thick or dense" then this definitely isn't your solution. If you're planning on using this to "mow" anything but a very very small section grass then you might want to consider something more powerful as yes, it can trim grass, but I wouldn't exactly say that's what it's designed for and it can easily get bogged down in 4" of if it's thick enough. Plus, the radius of the trimmer is fairly small compared to a higher end gas powered trimmer that can easily mow through a patch of grass. It's kind of like a smaller Swiss army knife, it's convenient but doesn't quite excel at anything. Good enough for some easy tasks but not a machete by any means! If you're looking for a complete system of toosl, the Black and Decker 20v system is pretty good and obviously one of the cheapest systems around but none of the tools are considered even remotely powerful, just cheap, convenient and good enough, but that works for me! but the battery life is not that great. We have a pretty big yard and I ... September 22, 2017 Used it a couple times and it seems to work OK, but the battery life is not that great. We have a pretty big yard and I got this thing so my wife could weed whack after mowing. The full size, commercial grade, gas trimming I have is too big for her and in the wrong hand will kill small, seedling trees we have growing, so we got this one for her. It seemed to trim pretty good, but not nearly as powerful as my gas trimmer. It is fairly quiet though. The battery takes a long time to recharge; about 3-4 hours. The string is pretty light stuff though, and I suspect that it will go though it pretty fast. Not a heavy duty trimmer, but useful none-the-less.l Great backup September 12, 2017 Not a bad little trimmer that I will keep as a backup whenever my 4 cycle gas trimmer takes a vacation. I bought the corresponding hedge clippers so I could have 2 batteries which are needed to do my entire house and pool. I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about with the spools not lasting. I've used this twice and still have plenty of string left. Good product. September 2, 2017 POretty solid product.Battery is very good.Line is not long enough for my taste, Have to get pretty close to 'whack' and hover over spot to get all of it.Not bad - just not as powerful as hoped. I have a small yard and this works just fine for me September 14, 2016 I have a small yard and this works just fine for me. I can basically mow my lawn with it. It's good for everyday yard work, particularly if you maintain your yard on a regular basis. If you need something heavy duty that will cute through woody or thick weeds, this would not be good for that. It's good on thinner or smaller plants and grass, not large or heavy stalks. Does the job I needed it for............ August 24, 2016 I bought this for a lightweight answer to small areas of grass around flower beds and it works great for that purpose. The charger isn't as nice as the one that came with all the other Black&Decker 20 W Lithium tools I bought a couple of years ago. Just seems a lot cheaper. | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 8% Older model works better August 19, 2017 Not as powerful as I had hoped. We own a second older model. That holds more cutting power than the lithium trimmer ... want broken and had all the pieces it works great! Am was fantastic in dealing with returns August 18, 2017 After I got one that want broken and had all the pieces it works great! Am was fantastic in dealing with returns! Very short battery life August 4, 2017 It does what it's supposed to do, but believe the reviews about the battery life. 20mins, tops. That is with proper charging and all. Again, does what it's supposed to do, for 20mins at a time. It's Okay July 3, 2017 Trimmer speed is good when the battery is fresh, but quickly goes downhill. I have two batteries, because I have a B&D hedge trimmer that takes the same 20v battery. I cannot get through trimming the edges of our grass without swapping batteries. Disappointing, but otherwise the trimmer works as advertised. Disappointing.. May 26, 2016 Everyone seems to have different requirements of their tools, here's mine: Efficiency. Not only in terms of performance, but engineering. There's not much difference in performance, a wacker is pretty much a wacker, the amount of run time, the efficiency, even the cutting swath are pretty much similar. What sets a lot of them apart from each other, however, is the engineering. I just hate it when my tools aren't up to the task, either b/c their not ergonomic, or the quality of construction isn't good, or they're flimsy..regardless of how well they perform, if they don't handle well, they're junk.Sadly, this falls into that latter category. Out of the box, the unit is well made and the assembly is literally a snap. However, B&D has inexplicably decided to use a slide in battery that needs to be removed for charging, making this clumsy and cumbersome, to say nothing of needing to keep the separate charge handy. What's more, there's no included wall mounting bracket...a plastic part that couldn't cost them very much to include...and, like their older models, incorporate the charger receptacle into it, so when you store it, italso recharges. It's the little (and in this case, inexpensive) details that add just enough annoyance for me to recommend other wacker/edgers. The key is ease of use, and this omission leaves this unit at a significant disadvantage. Battery life a big letdown. April 25, 2016 SERIOUS DISAPPOINTMENT with the battery longevity. Taking the lead from the description and reviews, I chose not to order and extra battery when I purchased the trimmer. Big mistake. Halfway through the first use, dead as a doornail. Bit the bullet and bought a backup...I'm not sure if this will be enough. My yard is moderate in size, really not a big job. Other than this the trimmer's OK - kind of a lightweight, though. This is my first attempt at using a battery-powered machine...I may end up going back to gasoline engine. | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Two Star Reviews: | 3% Which really sucks with its maximum 10 minute run time August 31, 2017 Single string on head instead of 2 spinning causes it to struggle. It will cut but you have to move slow. Which really sucks with its maximum 10 minute run time. Couldnt get a 30 ft by 10 foot hillside done. Posted as 2 stars instead of one because when i look at reviews i think 5's are likely false profiles and 1's are competitor satire. I want people to know this is a legitiment review and this is legitimately a waste of money. Received damaged. July 27, 2017 Received damaged. First image is of damage. Second image is of undamaged side for comparison. a disappointment July 2, 2017 I should have gone with a more powerful one but I just have a medium size yard with not that thick grass. I found this to be under powered for average use and despite following the charging instructions I get maybe ten minutes use before it slows down noticeably. Do your self a favor and buy a more powerful one and hope it holds a charge longer . Totally regret this purchase Poor battery and light duty only. March 30, 2017 Not a strong as I wish it was but it does the job. Battery doesn't last that long. Terrible customer service, good product March 16, 2017 I would have given it 4 stars BUT the charger burned up after 10 mins of charging my battery for the first time and I can't get anyone to tell me how to get an exchange on the charger. Trimmer works really well and the 10 min charge lasted a long time. 40volt better option May 24, 2015 Doesn't have very much power. Good if you are just whacking some strands of grass, but not good for edging. Pay a little more and opt for the 40volt. Well made and B&D reliability which is why I went with the 40volt. B&D products have always proven to be reliable and last a long time. | 0% There are no reviews yet |
One Star Reviews: | 9% Don’t buy, unless you like cuts and welts on your legs. October 11, 2017 This is the worst item I have ever purchased. We bought this back in May when we got our new house and it worked fine for the first month or two, which was maybe 4 uses. Beyond that, after numerous rolls of wire, I give up. If I try to cut anything more than a tiny bit of grass, the wire keeps spooling out. I have tried different wires, different brands, same thing. I have now ended up getting hit with the wire snaps off when it spools out. Will never buy again, and will definitely stay away from black and decker yard tools. Ineffective. Took 10x longer than my corded edger and ... September 28, 2017 Ineffective. Took 10x longer than my corded edger and this caused me to have to recharge the battery twice in order to do what used to take 20 minutes. Returned it. Only one battery September 11, 2017 Package says there should be 2 batteries and it's one of the reasons I purchased this one, however, there was only one battery in the box. One Star August 12, 2017 I want to return it. The motor is smoking when I try to use it! It's totally dead waste of money July 26, 2017 This worked once, right after I received it, and then it stopped. I recharged the battery but no power is getting through. I, sadly, read reviews after I got this trimmer and they all said the same thing, the battery either only runs for a few minutes after charging or does not work at all. DO NOT BUY THIS! such a waste. July 23, 2017 I have used this trimmer only a handful of times and yesterday the orange plastic end cap that holds the trimmer string/wire inside the unit broke off. Now this trimmer can no longer be used, such a waste. | 0% There are no reviews yet |
