Game Changer

I don't know how I ever hung anything without this. It makes ensuring you are level over any distance easy. I used to dread having to hang something on the wall but now look forward to doing it and using the laser level. It is a real game changer.
Must have for finish carpenters

For the cost, this thing is pretty amazing! The laser is very bright, and can be seen for a very long distance. I bought this for transferring marks for balusters and it works flawlessly.

Very Affordable Leveling Tool
February 22, 2017
I couldn't be happier with this tool. Quick setup. Very forgiving mechanics. Dead-on reliable.Comes with excellent mounting options and a quality storage case. Keep it in the case when not in use.I wish these were available at this price years ago.
Must have
February 7, 2017
This little thing is awesome. I have used it for everything and anything. Aligning high hats is a breeze. Hanging cabinets, hanging pictures, mirrors setting bottom plates for framing etc. I don't know what I used to do without it. It's compact and doesn't take much room in the trailer. I would recommend having this tool if you do any form of construction it comes in handy almost on a daily basis.

October 28, 2016
I bought this along with a third hand fastcap pole when I was remodeling my daughters nursery. This little guy was an invaluable tool for that. The self leveling mechanism was a must have and the price was right on this laser. I've used the heck out of it and it has saved me so much time remodeling. Batteries last for a long long time but I use rechargeable so batteries are not an issue for me anyway.
Puts a line across the ceiling of a 52' shop!
August 7, 2016
This worked perfect for putting straight lines across the 12-foot high ceiling of my 36' X 52' shop so I could install new 4-foot LED light fixtures in a nice straight line. When I installed the previous 4-foot fluorescent light fixtures years ago, I just eyeballed them and they ended up crooked, which looked unprofessional to me. When I used this laser, I set it on top of a rollaway tool chest and projected a line on the ceiling. It was powerful enough to project a line on each wall on each end of the 52-foot length of the shop, plus across the entire ceiling. I then got up on a ladder and put masking tape where I needed a mark, and put a mark with a Sharpie pen right on the laser line on the tape. I then turned the laser off so I wouldn't run the batteries down. This project took a couple of days, and I never did wear out the batteries. I also used this laser for making sure I installed the beams of a large deck level with each other. It worked best after sundown for that outdoor application.
Possibilities are endless
December 26, 2015
The uses for this are endless. So far I have used this to square-up exterior doors I was installing in my house, which was much better than having to go to the level all the time because I could see the laser line as I was shimming. I also used it to place extra outlets in a wall and keep them at the same height as the existing outlets, and I had a friend who used it to paint stripes on his walls. With a tripod this thing is deadly and you will find more and more ways to put this to use guaranteed!**UPDATE** I still really love it. I have used this to tile my tub surround, put up wainscoting (to level my baseboards, cap molding, and nailing to studs), screwing in new drywall to studs, installing shelving in my garage, level bathtub when installing, and should have used this to level my floor joists with furring strips when I reinstalled a subfloor (kicking myself for that last one).My ONLY gripe is I wish it had a better, more versatile bracket for mounting, because my tripod only goes so low and can get in the way. Though I have used the magnets mounted on the device, if I recall correctly I have yet to use the included bracket.
Amazing laser level
May 23, 2014
Wish I'd found this earlier. I'm coming from a cheap little B&D laser line that came as part of a kit. It showed me how useful this type of tool can be for nearly everything, and I used it to death. Now that I've upgraded to this tool, I wish I had done it earlier. If you can get this within a few degrees of level, the pendelum takes care of the rest. It's a solid, bright line, and has amazing floor-to-ceiling coverage. I haven't tried it outside yet, but it's plenty bright for any indoor conditions I've encountered so far.As with any laser line / laser level, you have to be aware of parallax error. It's best to shine it straight onto your target at a 90-degree angle, since the projection will be straight regardless of the target profile that way. The classic example is trying to hand a picture on a wall that's leaning, and projecting a vertical line from an off-angle. The line will project straight onto the crooked wall, and as a result appear crooked. This is a factor common to ALL optical tools, but is easily rectified once you understand the cause by simply re-positioning the laser.I've used it so far to hang and level cabinets, and lay tile. For cabinet hanging, a large beam level would have been fine to bridge all the walkways and ensure the counters and cabinets were level to each other. But for the tile work, there is really no replacement for a good laser level. You can snap a chalk line, but it just gets covered by the grout as you go. The laser continues to project on the surface as you go, making it so easy to get good straight tile lines running up the wall.It can be used for framing, subfloor leveling, hanging drywall, marking stud locations, or any number of other activities. Yeah you could do them all with traditional tools, but the laser is always level and just makes progress so much quicker with less layout and set-up time.

We haven't used it much yet. I think we need to study it a bit more. Like how would you attach it to make a straight line at ceiling height? ButI know these are great since I've seen them used before. Our last painter used one and made a perfect straight line.

a pretty nice torpedo level, limited laser level
April 14, 2014
First I am a professional finish carpenter and project lead. Take some of the poor reviews with a grain of salt, people are judging this as a "laser level" and frustrated that it doesn't do what other "laser levels" can do. The problem with that approach is that "laser level" is not a thing but a fairly large category of things. I personally use a laser cross line, laser plumb bob, laser square, rotary laser, and now this too on a very regular basis(except for the rotary laser which has i very rarely use) . They all do different things. The line laser on this seems useful for only one thing, casting a line that is not level. for casting a level line there is a ton of set up and a lack of accuracy. this is not a knock on this product, I simply want to spell out the professional uses for this tool as i think people are buying it for other uses and giving it undeserved bad reviews. (a bit like buying a Porsche and giving it a bad review because the back seats are too cramped)This should be seen as a small torpedo level with a laser dot and a limited but useful line laser. I bought it because i wanted a small torpedo level with a laser dot that i could use as a laser pointer when talking to people on the job site. I think as professional tool it should be seen as that only, leveling a cabinet or a shelf would be silly as there is no way to assess the level (from left to right of the line on the wall) without using a spirit level on the wall and making slow adjustments to the tripod that this would be mounted on.If you can't afford a cross line laser and are mad at this level because it wont do what a cross line does.. please keep it to yourself, that is not a failure of this product.so.. my review is as follows:It is a bit short for a torpedo, on the plus side it fits beautifully in a tool belt. The vials are surrounded by black which looks cool but things get a but dark in a closet or any other dark place Also the windows in the black plastic that look into the vials are rather small so viewing really does get restricted if the level is at a sharp angle from your eyes. The magnets on the side are for attaching to it's included tripod mount but no magnets in shoe surface, that is a bummer, it means you cant stick it onto a metal surface that you want to level, no pipes, fridge doors etc.. I also wish you could see the vials from both sides of the level but alas, only one side. the back side has only magnets and a battery door. All said and done this is a mediocre torpedo level but I give it 4 stars because there is no other product on the market today that is in this price range and is a small torpedo with a laser dot. I dont care much for the line but it could be useful for installing stair hand rail brackets and such. I still prefer lower tech methods for what the line offers but a compact torpedo with a laser pointer.. I hope we see more of these

Tested accuracy-- right on! Works great
June 22, 2017
Tested accuracy-- right on! Works great. Very bright laser. Strong enough magnets to hold unit to drywall corner through texture & paint OK. Wish it had a small stand, fine tuning control like some others, pendulum lock. Of course, accuracy is the most important feature and it is dead on! Great for the price.
Big Tommy says this is nice for the price, but not for rugged use.
October 29, 2015
Big Tommy the Carpenter here.Well I gave up on DeWalt tools many years ago, their 18v batteries do not have a good years of life and became unhappy with the DeWalt lesser tool quality for the price. This laser uses AA batteries and come with a nice non bulky carry case. This level has a self level feature, but it does not "park lock" when not in use, which I do not think is a good thing. If you shake the unit when off, you can hear the laser inside bouncing around, not a good design on DeWalt's part, maybe the design is so it breaks so you buy another, but then would you.I have used the level several times and so far I have been happy, I am careful with my tools, so I am thinking this will last me many years, I hope. For the price I think it's a nice level, so I give it a thumbs up.
Level but laser isn't that strong for large spaces
August 22, 2015
It was level when i received it. I checked it in a open office and it was within a 1/16" of an inch. The space was about 50 ft by 80 ft. My only complaint was that it was hard to see line in the far corner with just general lighting on in the space. I read about complaints of not being able to see it outside but figured i wouldn't have an issue inside. I didn't try using the red glasses so that might help.
Perfect for hanging anything on your walls or ceiling
August 13, 2015
Very useful tool, never thought I would use it for so many different things when I bought it. Hung 24 LED shop lights in my garage with ease using this and a digital laser measurer.
Great Horizontal, Mediocre Vertical.
December 16, 2014
Great Cross Line Laser. Steadies up fast and true. The magnets on the bracket are very strong. The lines are very bright and easy to read in the horizontal over a wide range. 5 star in the horizontal. In the vertical line, its a very different story. You get great lines on the ceiling and wall, but not so great on the floor. I was expecting the line drawn on the floor to be much sharper and brighter, as it is with the competing model from Bosch. 3 star in the vertical. You can somewhat overcome this problem by mounting on the Tripod and tilting the laser downward. Your line will be much sharper and brighter over a greater range on the floor, but it will start blinking to indicate that you are out of level. Kind of annoying. While the vertical line is being limited in the normal position will still be useful in a wide range of applications, it will be lacking for others. For example, laying tile on the floor and using the vertical line to help line tiles up. Without tilting, the line just isn't good enough. Overall 4 stars.
Check accuracy before use...
November 18, 2014
I received my first order promptly from Amazon. Unfortunately, the leveling of the unit was well off when I checked the laser line projections with a standard hand-held level. I then used the assessment methods described in the manual for this level and found that the horizontal and vertical lines were well out of range of the described tolerances and were not accurate at all. Amazon immediately shipped me a new unit and I returned the first one I received. The replacement is much better and (on retesting) is very accurate.I've used the new unit and am very happy with it so far. It does make many projects much easier. There are several other models that Amazon sells from Dewalt. I only own this model, but did find some reviews suggesting that several purchasers have had accuracy concerns on occasion with other Dewalt laser level models. I would advise that you carefully check the accuracy of the unit you receive. I'm happy with my replacement laser level, but give the product four stars for quality control of the initial unit I received. I will update this review if I have any further issues.

As a product, this works great. I've been remounting everything in my house now that I can do it correctlyWARNING: be careful opening the batter case. I ripped off the front of my fingernail doing this. It is designed to make you think you should use the end of your finger to open the battery case. DON'T DO THAT. Use the side of your thumb or a screw driver. Its not worth the blood and pain.

Quality control issues
November 8, 2015
I bought this to help me grade a 40ft x 40ft parking area on my sloped property. I checked the grade from 1 edge to the other and found it sloped down 10 inches. On a whim, I walked to the other side and shot the same path in the reverse direction and found is sloped down again. Eh? How does something slope down in both directions?I took the tool into the house to to test it and the results are pictured. The pic on the left shows the tool with the bubble perfectly centered. I turned it around for pic2: not even close to centered. On the positive side, the beam was bright enough for me to use the tool in the sun using a 4" white PVC pipe as a truth rod. If you happen to get a properly calibrated tool, you'll probably like it. I'm returning this for the STANLEY STHT77342 SPL3 3-Spot Laser Level

Too difficult to setup for each line...
June 9, 2015
The product seems well built but getting it setup for each line, even after much practice, just took way to long. Granted, I was using a tripod for setting up full room strips but that is where some of the issues become clear. The adjustments on it are too loose and too sensitive, one minor change would shift the line in large increments making fine tuning very difficult. Finally, trying to mount this on a wall was equally silly since I am not going to drill into my walls to temporarily mount this (as recommended) and no strong tape or adhesive was strong enough to hold it yet flexible enough to take it off without damage to the wall.

Expensive cat toy
December 20, 2014
I found the overall performance of this level to be poor. The main reason I wanted it was to cast a level line across the room to the opposite wall and it cannot do that. It lacks a spirit level for that axis. It can throw a level point across the room but not a line. The description in the ad does not indicate this, although it does state that in the instruction pamphlet. However, besides the lack of function which I wanted, this level is very difficult to use because the liquid in the leveling vials is too viscous, causing the bubble to respond very very slowly. I put it on a tripod to try it out and it was awful, even to just set it up for casting a level point. It would seem to be level but then the bubble would slowly creep. Adjust it back a bit to where the bubble was centered again and then it would slowly creep. It is do-able but, ARRGGH!!! I like my other Bosch tools but this one just does not cut it. (FWIW, I have been a finish carpenter 35 years.) It did a good job entertaining our pets though :-)
Missing Parts?
February 11, 2014
I didn't notice when I received the level, but I was searching the Internet for reviews and saw it was supposed to come with adhesive tape and a thumbnail. Neither was in the box -- just the level, batteries, and mounting plate.Since I live in a condo, I don't have a lot of room to keep the packaging, so it's gone now. If I realized when I received it that it was supposed to have those parts I would have kept the packaging and returned it, so it's partially my fault. The packaging seems secure and was taped properly.

Do not recommend
December 17, 2016
I'm a professional carpenter and thought I'd buy this and give it a try for the 'small' home projects or otherwise. My very first experience with this badly designed laser level was beyond frustrating; I kept saying to myself: "who signed off on this", and: "how did this design ever leave the factory floor?!" The most aggravating aspect is trying to get the laser barrel to stay and/or get level! The attachment point of the barrel to the wall mount is horrible; in fact I would go so far as to say it is engineered to fail; it's nowhere near effective enough to keep in in place. I would not recommend this to anyone unfortunately, as I do own and support Bosch in my business tools.
Can't see the laser line
November 21, 2016
Hard to actually see the laser line, and laser line is spotty, skips. So some spots there is a laser line and some spots do not.
Too weak to work.
July 28, 2015
I bought this laser to cast a perfectly straight line to line up the first row of a wide pine floor. This is it's intended purpose, and it totally failed at the job site. The 32 foot long room had several large windows and a sky light which made the laser use less as the beam only showed up on the floor for 4 or 5 feet. No matter how I set it up the laser was too weak to use in a sunny room and this was not a sun room with tone of glass. As a carpenter I own many Bosch tools including several different types of lasers and they all work great but this tool is under powered and is going back to Amazon. In low light conditions it seems to work well or at night in a basement. during daylight hours, not so good.

I expect better from Bosch
March 6, 2015
I own alot of Bosch tools and this is a great disappointment. The spirit level is not good quality and trying to adjust with mount or tripod is time consuming and difficult. When the laser line hits a corner it points downward way out of level not that the adjacent line is level either. Much easier using old school methods. It is a downright piece of junk. Don't waste your money. I get that Bosch is trying to offer an alternative to expensive line lasers but this misses the mark.

Works great as long as its calibrated, if it gets knocked around a site and goes out of level/plumb, you're hosed, it cannot be fixed according to dewalt.
