Side by Side Comparison of: Optimum Nutrition vs EAS

The best protein I have ever purchased, hands down. And I have bought a lot of protein powder. I can't say if this hydrolyzed whey protein does what it claims to - rapid absorption for better recovery - but I can say that it dissolves exceptionally well. It has a great taste, even better than regular ON chocolate. It is so good that it tastes just fine even mixed with water. Usually I have to mix protein powder with chocolate milk to make it palatable, but not hydro whey. This is really primo protein powder. Unfortunately it is on the expensive side, but still cheaper than Progenex.

After using the entire large tub of this, here are my observations:Pros:* Very easy to mix, no clumps* Excellent amount of protein and BCAA's per serving* Seemed very effective as a protein supplement. I made good progress on my lifts while using.Cons:* Ingredient list is pretty lengthy. Would like something cleaner with no artificial ingredients.Overall:I'm still on the hunt for a protein supplement that's 100% right for me. I wish this one had a shorter list of ingredients. But, I have no other complaints at all. Price is higher than normal whey from ON. But, this is pure hydro isolate vs. a blend of isolate and concentrate. Well worth the slight extra cost, in my opinion.

I have not seriously worked out in 10 years and must have missed something - the protein shakes of past had to be blended with a blender and still tasted terribly. I cannot speak to the the actual protein part of this powder, as I have just started working out again, but two things are certain:1. It tastes amazing: just like chocolate milk from a store, even though I just add water.2. It dilutes quickly and completely, with ZERO (!!!) residue, even though I just shake it for ~30 seconds in my shaker bottle.Thank you for making something super delicious and easy.

It's important to understand the types of protein you are putting in your body, and what separates this from most of the other proteins. The fact that it is an isolate protein it is made for building and repairing your muscles. It absorbs quickly after a workout, and that is what you want.I have took countless other proteins, this is the cleanest and as a bonus is easily mixed.I was spending the same price on 5lbs of the muscle milk, it takes 2 similar sized scoops of muscle milk to get the same amount of protein as one scoop of ON platinum.You may appear to be getting less with the 3.5lbs in weight but it equals to 7lbs worth of drinks in muscle milk, which is actually much more.Can't go wrong here, definitely recommend!

I am lactose intolerant and all other protein powders that I have tried have cause bloating and gas including the ON Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein. I saw that someone else recommended this for those with a lactose sensitivity, so I tried it out. I haven't had any issues using this powder and highly recommend it for others that share the same problem. It's not the best value, but is well worth it to prevent the issues.

My life changed in an instant when I was taken down by a hit and run driver 25 years ago. After extensive surgeries on my intestinal tract I recovered and had a fairly normal 15 year run. Now the scar tissue twists my intestines into balloon animals and every bite I take has to be nutritionally dense because I'm able to eat so little.I am one of those people that eat to stay alive, I don't live to eat...I'm a picky eater. Taste, smells and textures all have to be on the mark or I can't manage it.Yes, this product is expensive. But as someone who absolutely knows the hydrolized broken down essentially "pre-digested" protein strands in this product result in optimum absorbtion and availability of ALL complete amino acids (used to build proteins) I can tell you I would not be as healthy as I am without it. And I'm in excellent health other than my digestive tract.I'm a 65yo woman, live alone, off grid in the mountains and have a physically demanding life taking care of my homestead and animals. I move 2-4,000 pounds of food weekly as a volunteer at the local food bank. I'm not sitting on the sofa watching reality tv and knitting booties.I'm preparing for what I sincerely hope is the last surgery I'll have. I need 80 grams of protein a day. I cannot eat anything that has to be chewed - no meat, cheese, eggs, grains or fiber of any kind, fruit or vegetables. I eat yogurt, pudding and ice cream. Without this product my body would not be able to sustain health let alone be ready for a 10 hour surgery.If you want minimal results and expensive poop filled with half digested whey make your choice based on price.If you want your body to have access to nutritionally available complete proteins it can absorb easily THIS is the best.Good luck with your goals!

I like the flavor and it mixes well. I usually ad a single scoop to my morning smoothie just to add some protein to a fruit shake, it seems to give me more energy and stick with me longer so I don't get hungry again until lunch time. The vanilla flavor goes really well with my banana and blueberry smoothies.

I have tried several different protein powders and drinks. Chocolate EAS 100% Whey is my absolute favorite. I love it plain in a shaker with just cold water added. I love it blended in my NutriBullet with frozen blueberries, strawberries, bananas, or peaches. I love it with added cinnamon for a "Mexican chocolate" flavor. I love it thick like a milkshake or thin like chocolate milk. I even love a scoop of it mixed into a bowl with nonfat cottage cheese (this may be an acquired taste!) It blends completely in a shaker, which is nice. Not chalky, not gummy. Great stuff.

Just buy the EAS Chocolate Protein. It's the best. Ok....I'm 59 and lifted weights big time back in the 80's. You know..Steroids and all the other crap I could get. The protein powder back then didn't mix well and was kind of grainy. Fast forward 40 years and I got back into lifting and bought this powder. Tastes like a silky smooth shake from Dairy Queen! It mixes so easy and well with no gritty texture. This stuff is really good. I mix 2 scoops in a glass of milk, put in the freezer for a bit, then sit down and watch some TV. Talk about good stuff.....I sometimes make another. Can't go wrong here guys...

Look at the label for this protein, a lot of protein with little calories makes it easy to keep you macros in check. I take three servings a day with skim milk and it tastes and mixes well. I have not tried this with just water yet. Will continue to have this on my subscribe and save.

Taste great and works. We have tried dozens of protein powders and most either taste like dog....food or clump up and won't dissolve. This EAS dissolves easily in a shaker or a blender and taste great.
Tip- I make a morning coffee protein shake: scoop of Van EAS protein powder, 1/2 cup Greek yogurt, 1/2 cup almond milk and fill with coffee. I then blend it with a magic bullet and it makes an amazing morning coffee smoothie/shake.

I saw some reviews saying this had a funky aftertaste, but I've never experienced that. I think it tastes great! I mix it with unsweetened vanilla almond milk and frozen fruit and it's delicious. Even my son loves it. I also appreciate that unlike most other protein powders it does not come in a HUGE tub that's only halfway or 3/4 of the way full.

I was worried it would go bad because the package was arrived hot. I guess its' ok though. The taste is good. Just like chocolate milk. It clumps in hot milk. I forgot protein powder does that. Will mix it with room temp water next time.

A little too sweet for my taste. But at 30 gms of protein it's a no brainer. Good quality hydro whey.

Just tried the strawberry flavor. I usually buy the vanilla which is amazing but switched to try the strawberry since it would ship faster. It's good but not great. Seems like I can taste the artificialness of it. I will go back to vanilla next time.

I purchased this a few months ago after doing a ton of research on many different protein powders. I've tried a few different brands, both in powders and premixed shakes. I had gastric sleeve surgery almost a year ago so protein is a very important aspect of my diet. My biggest problem is flavor! I can't stand a lot of the products I've tried, it's either gritty or tastes awful, or usually, it's both. That being said, this powder is acceptable to me. It's not absolutely gag worthy but it's definitely not delicious either. It almost has an oat taste to it, which is odd but not really gross or tasty either. The protein in it is good quality and I can tell because it doesn't cause gas or bloating. My favorite is still Premier Protein shakes in chocolate but this one is good for after my workouts or if I'm really low on protein for the day. I mix it with fairlife milk, in a cup with a whisk and it blends fairly well. Please don't buy into the myth that your body can only absorb so much protein at once either because it simply isn't true. I'll still continue to look for a shake that tastes good without a ton of carbs but at this point at least I've found something tolerable. That in and of itself has been a challenge! I would definitely recommend this product tho, especially if you're like me and have extremely picky taste buds.

I love ON Platinum Hydro Whey but this particular flavor (Turbo Chocolate) did not taste quite right. It was super watery and tasted more like a Casein protein than a high grade hydro when protein. I almost thought about sending it back, but figured maybe I wasn't use to the "new" flavor of Turbo Chocolate. Instead, I compensate by doubling the serving. The scooper in here too, is smaller than the previous ON Hydro Whey scooper, so they must have really changed the product since March.

From people far more knowledgeable than I, I have heard great things about the potential of this product.However, I, from the bottom of heart- hate this product. It is TOO DARN sweet. And I cannot figure out how to make it less sweet. So if you, like me do not like overly sweet things, you probably are not going to like this product.For everyone else and apart from the taste- this is ax excellent product and delivers the moon as promised!Update-- Jan 20, 2016I realized why it was too sweet. It's because I was having it with milk. With water, it tastes just great! :)Excellent Product!

not as chocolate-y as I would like but it's got high ratio of protein+fat grams to carb grams, good for a low-carb snack mixed with water. Taste is very good and rich with 2% milk. Not too sweet for me, but definitely too sweet for some people.

Sometimes makes my stomach gurgle if it's alone in there. But no cramping.

great Value. taste better then expected. I mixed a glass of this protein powder with 2 scoops of powder and about 8oz. of whole milk.
it's a little on the sweet tasting side and some of the powder didn't mix all the way( i think that was because i don't have a shaker cup).
i will probably buy this again from the same store.

The reviews were mixed on this but I found it had a good flavor, mixed well and I will definitely be buying it again. People had talked about a square container not being as good, mine came in a round container, maybe a new formula at some point. I did give it only 4 stars though because it's a lot of powder needed per serving and it's 30 more calories than the Optimum Nutrition gold standard brand I was buying. So I might switch between the two as this also has a few more carbs per serving than my other brand.

Great price, good taste. According to the more hardcore bodybuilders out there, the protein-per-scoop is a little low (I'm not training for the Arnold Classic and would rather have taste and cost effectiveness), and mixing it (I have a BlenderBottle) takes a lot longer than the other, much more expensive Iso-Whey I've had in the past, but I'll definitely order again. Good protein, tasty, a great after workout drink.

I'm not going to say this is the best tasting whey protein powder I've ever had (BSN Syntha-6 is), but I like it for a few other reasons. The calories are much lower per serving vs. Syntha-6, and the protein is higher. Since the calories are lower, I can do more to increase the nutrition and still end up with a shake that is comparable in calories than a plain Syntha-6 shake with water. For example, my normal Syntha-6 shake has 200 calories with just water. Today, I had EAS with 1 tsp flax, 2 tsp cocoa powder (since it's not quite as chocolate-y as Syntha-6), and 1/2 cup of almond milk for 196 calories. Also, it's quite a bit cheaper, which always helps.

I saw good gains while using this product but I am lactose intolerant and this messed with that badly. Had to switch to a lactose free whey protein. Which is a shame because I really liked the hydro whey.

First off, no debating the quality of the protein-it is excellent. The flavor (turbo chocolate) however is almost unbearable to me. I used the non-hydrolyzed double chocolate from the same company for many years, and that tasted great. Even when I dilute this in strong black coffee the taste is way too sweet....

For some reason, this didn't mix as well as the Gold Standard, and at almost 30% more in cost, I don't see how its any better than the Gold standard either. The taste was decent, but again, the chocolate peanut butter Gold standard destroys this one. Stick with Optimum Nutritions Gold standard and save yourself the extra cash, while getting more protein.

Pretty much the only reason why I buy ON whey is the taste, I am certainly not the target demographic for this particular product in their line-up though. This whey has more grams of protein per scoop and im sure the proteins are also very fancy and useful if you need the absolute best possible whey for your exciting action-packed life, however it tastes pretty gross compared to its more laid-back gold standard cousin.its also slightly more expensive.

Would prefer to put 3 1/2 stars but whatever.Solid product but the drawback is the taste. It's not the worst (especially compared to a lot of the other products out there) but I won't be re-ordering this flavor again ---I prefer the Vanilla version anyhow.In milk it can clump up a little but like I said before it's much better about it then many of the other comparable brands.

Its good - I mean got all the right stuff in in. The sweetener in it is overpowering, I add 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt with it to make my smoothie this helps cut down that horrible sweet taste it has - I have been using it for a while and have noticed no difference in energy levels or recovery!! However, its protein and it beats having to spend time making breakfast or eating processed cereal from a box, so I will probably keep using till the container is over

So I bought this hoping it would taste like the brand you get from Wal-Mart for the same price just not the same amount. Sadly to say, it does not taste like that. It's not a bad taste but for me I preferred the one from Wal-Mart but since I don't think they are selling it anymore I got this. Again, it is drinkable but I have definitely told my roommates I'm sharing it. Don't think I could finish it by myself with the taste. I add cinnamon to help, but it doesn't do much.

its ok. i normally buy optimum nutrition. wanted to try this so i bought a smaller one. the ON extreme chocolate tastes better than EAS. EAS mixes a little better. i went back to ON

This stuff is decent tasting and OK for the price range. Mixes well and does supply protein just seems like a lot of filler to me. I still have some and will use on off days. Better quality protein can be had for about the same price.

I had purchased a smaller size whey previously and it cam with a scoop for measuring out the product. Unfortunately this purchase contained no scoop so I have to approximate the amount of whey I use. I also did not like the fact that in order to open the container it was necessary to rip the plastic wrapper containing all the information.

Just be aware that this is not the most concentrated protein supplement out there. It is relatively high in sugar and fat which may not be helping you meet your goals. Though initially more expensive, whey isolate can be found with close to zero fat and sugar, and when compared by pennies per gram of protein, costs about the same. This product can still be useful when additional carbs and fat are okay like in a morning shake or a pre-workout shake.

So I usually love ON whey. I usually buy the vanilla Hydrobuilder, but for some reason the Hydrobuilder has been discontinued. I just purchased the hydro velocity vanilla instead. I agree with another reviewer here that it almost tastes like I got a bad batch. The Hydrobuilder vanilla tasted great...but this has a strong chemical taste with no hint of vanilla. I'm actually wondering if I should drink it --- it tastes that bad. It does still mix well, so I guess I'll "drink and bear it" ...but it's going to be a long 40 scoops.

I know this is about getting quality protein into your system for better gains but, this chocolate peanut butter flavor is the worst tasting protein powder I've ever experienced. I know they're all gross but, this one's exceptionally horrible.

Vanilla flavor is by far THE BEST TASTING.... The cookies and cream is horrible... Smells like wax and taste waxy and leaves a very bad after taste.Two stars for the Cookies and cream flavor

People have been saying the powder easily dissolves but I don't understand why they are saying this? I don't like my protein shakes being chunky. Mixing for 15 minutes and individually smashing/rubbing the chunks against the sides to make it dissolve is a huge hassle. Did I get a bad batch?Highly annoyed.

So I've been a fan of ON's whey for years. I've always drink their Gold Standard Whey. Any flavor they usually tastes good. But this time I decided to try the Velocity Vanilla HydroWhey. Bad decision. Not sure if I got a bad stock or if it's actually just bad. It doesn't taste like vanilla at all; in fact, it tastes mostly like chemicals to me. It's that hard to describe. It certainly leave that chemically aftertaste. It does mixes very well and when you look at the powder size compared to the Gold Standard, this one is much finer.Another note is that, the scoop is larger than the scoop that comes with the Gold Standard Whey, so you are using more powder with this one. However, it is suppose to have more BCAAs in it so I guess that makes sense. Anyways, I'd recommend trying another flavor if this is your first time buying this powder.

I'm lactose intolerant and I bought this product because it was lactose free. However, for my surprise, my stomach aches every time that I take it. I was taking it after workout, with water, in the way it was supposed to be taken. Maybe I also became intolerant for any milk ingredient, I don't know. I just know that I bought 2 of those and wasted my money.

I have bought this product many times and was always very happy with it in the past. This order has been the opposite. The product doesn't taste the same (much worse than usual) and doesn't dissolve nearly as well. It's like it's old, or has been exposed to heat or something. Those are just guesses of course, but it's just bad not matter how you slice it. Very disappointed.

Was a 4.5/5 until they changed the formula AND INCREASED THE PRICE. Now this puppy packs a WHOPPING 100g of cholesterol.. Take about overkill. Sorry EAS you've lost a customer even if it was the same price as before the new formula SUCKS. their trying to make more money percontainer hence the no reason to change except to feed the CEOs of the company bigger pay cuts

It was good until chemical aftertaste. It may be artificial sweeteners. Helps keep my protein intake high without eating lots of meat. I find it best to consume one serving at a time one at the beginning of the day and one at the end.

This is a good product. I originally bought it when it was out of stock at my regular retailer. When I went to order more... it was priced almost 10 dollars higher!!

I purchased this powder after reading its nutritional breakdown. It has the most protein per 8oz and the fewest carbs compared to its competitors which was the initial draw. However, it is not a smooth drink. Even using the blender ball bottle, the powder will clump and you'll find yourself chewing little nuggets of powder alongside what should be a smooth, blended drink. This did not occur when drinking one of its competitors - MuscleMilk. I don't think I will be purchasing this powder again after these experiences.

If you are new to this brand, consider buying a small bottle prior to committing to a 5lb container like I did.

Tastes absolutely horrible. The closest thing to chocolate in this product is the word "chocolate" on the label.

Cookies and cream flavor is awful

The box was opened with a fake seal! The powder was already leaking from the edges without me even trying to open it.

Let's be real, all whey protein is whey protein. This stuff tastes absolutely horrible and for the price, just get yourself a normal tub of ON Whey Isolates from Costco.I repeat, the taste of this is absolutely horrible. Cannot wait until I finish the tub.

Not so good as I expected

So annoyed . I hate vanilla but I got it because the pictures listed when zooming in say it's 160 calories vs chocolate and strawberry which are 170. Just got it in the mail today and the container says 170... would have got a flavor I care for if it wasent for their inaccurate picture

I've been ordering the same protein the last three years. Always been very good, until the last one I just ordered. They definitely changed the formula and it's way worse than what it used to be. The powder is much finer and has a bad taste now. This will be the last time I buy this protein. Pretty disappointed.

Worse taste strawberry flavor powder I tried mixing with apple and strawberry. Slightly better. Will not buy this again. Chocolate is the best. I can drink chocolate flavor straight with ice only

i dont know how they jacked up chocolate! i am going back to ON, i don't know about the nutrition side but if i don't want to drink it that wont mater.
