A great CO detector
September 25, 2017
I got three of these alarms and they all seem to work really well. When you pull the tab for the backup battery, you should hear a loud beep to indicate it is working and that the batteries are properly detected. When plugged into the wall, it'll have a constant green light. When running on backup, it'll flash the green light every 60 seconds to indicate that it is still working and it'll flash red when the backup battery is low on power and needs replacing. As with any CO detector, you should install them at least somewhat low to the ground and away from space heaters to prevent false positives. And as always, refer to the included safety manual for more information on the product. One last thing to note though, it does come in a clam shell though, just use a box cutter and you can get around it, but still annoying. The product itself though is great and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to keep themselves and/or their family safe.
Good value and appears well constructed.

Bought this as a replacement. After considerable research this appeared to have the features we needed and at an affordable price. We have not been disappointed. It worked out of the box and has given us no problem since plugged in.
Very Nice CO Plug-in Dectector By Kidde.

Much improved over the previous model I purchased 7 yrs. ago. This one states it will last 10 yrs and uses two AA batteries instead of a 9 Volt for backup. Easy to install and test.
Safety simplicity
November 25, 2016
Replacement for prior. Simple to use and install. If you're thinking about this, I recommend it. Comes with batteries, 2 AAs, pull tape and done. Easy set and forget, but we should at least on say, every New Year's Day, test, and vacuum it, change batteries needed or not - to be sure. We bought for all BRs kids and us. Cheap - considering the alternative potential (that we hope never comes)
Great value

I recently had to replace 2 CO detectors that reached their end of life. I replaced the first with a First Alert that was similar to the old unit, but bought this Kidde to replace the second one. The First Alert has a digital display, cost about $10.00 more, and only has a 7 year life. I find the digital display hard to see, so I don't really miss it on the Kidde. For $10.00 less, this model has a 10 year life, so the total cost to own will be a lot less.
Absolutely two thumbs up
May 5, 2015
It's THAT easy...pull the tab to activate the battery, plug it in and green light, you're good to go. Perfect product for households that have interior access to garage, and especially if you have a button start vehicle.

... while using stove so decided to try something with better readout and functionality to help avoid alarms from stove
March 8, 2017
Was getting nuisance alarms from old one while using stove so decided to try something with better readout and functionality to help avoid alarms from stove. I put this unit by the stove to test because I want to avoid nuisance alarms, not die from a faulty detector. Well, it registered 0 so I started reading the 1 star reviews of similar problems and went down that rabbit hole for a minute. However, decided to test it by smoking a cigarette....i know, I started chantix yesterday so I'm addressing that health concern. Low and behold, up to 180 ppm from smoking and watched it drop and rise as I moved it to fresh air. Works fine, will grab another for furnace room. Great price
Love that it sits on a table or counter & not hung on a wall. Large display shows highest "CO" concentration since last reset.
October 6, 2016
My last Carbon Monoxide Detector was about to die (it was about 7 years old and I kept getting those end of life beeps which were driving me crazy). I found this one on Amazon and loved that it could be placed on a table or counter rather than having to hang it high up on a wall, which is very difficult to get to when I need to change the batteries twice a year. Anyway I'm very happy with this purchase I love that it has a large digital display so it’s easy to read, even in low-light conditions. It also has a Peak-level memory display that shows the highest CO concentration measured since the last reset. In addition to that the slide-out battery door makes it very easy to change the batteries and it has a Low Battery Signal so I’ll know if the batteries are getting low (although I do change them twice a year when I change the time on the clock. I also like that it meets Underwriters Laboratories (UL) UL2034 compliance. It was easy to order and arrived in 2 days (I have Amazon Prime). It arrived in good condition and looks like the pictures posted online.
Tested with CO in closed container at varying concentrations. Worked very well!
May 6, 2014
With emergency products like CO detectors, it's hard to know if they really work unless you're actually being exposed to dangerous amounts of CO. And if a CO detector doesn't work, you wouldn't know; instead, you'd just be poisoned while thinking that nothing was wrong. The only way to really find out if it works is to put it in an airtight container and generate CO.

Because I like to play with dangerous chemicals at home, I decided to try this out. Adding formic acid to concentrated sulfuric acid causes the formic acid (HCOOH) to break down into CO and H2O. I got both of these chemicals for less than $10/liter apiece, plus shipping. I put some sulfuric acid into a graduated cylinder and placed it in a 1-gallon airtight plastic container. I then added small amounts of diluted formic acid and rapidly closed the container.

Sure enough, it worked! It registered CO concentrations that were well within the ballpark of what I'd expect to get with the amount of formic acid I added (using the ideal gas law to figure out what the maximum CO level would be). In high concentration tests, I found that the alarm goes off within 3 minutes of hitting 500 ppm (which is dangerous but would take several hours to kill, giving plenty of time to get to fresh air). In another test, it went off after about 20 minutes of CO levels around 190 ppm, which is dangerous but not lethal. Its peak reading is in the 910-920 ppm range; it doesn't display levels higher than that. Needless to say, it goes off within a minute or two of such high CO levels and anybody who sees 900+ ppm on the display should leave their house and seek medical help immediately.

It worked well in low concentration tests too. Due to some strange US regulation, it displays "0" for any reading below 30 ppm. If you press the "peak level" button, though, it will tell you what its peak reading was even if it was below 30 ppm. This works down to the 10-15 ppm range, below which you don't really have to worry about CO at all. Prolonged exposure around 50 ppm leads to an alarm after a couple of hours.

Another, simpler test (which anyone with a CO detector should do to make sure it's working) is to light a candle in an enclosed container with the CO detector, then close the container. The candle will burn through the available oxygen and a fair amount of incomplete combustion (releasing CO instead of CO2) will occur as it runs out of O2. I tried this and got 96 ppm with a small candle in my gallon container; a larger candle would probably release more. I then tried it by lighting a crumpled piece of newspaper in the container and got >910 ppm, which is reasonable because paper and wood experience pyrolysis, which releases lots of CO. Combustion of small amounts of acetone (a fairly clean fuel relative to paper) resulted in 300-550 ppm depending on how hot the fire got before I put the lid on; the lower reading relative to paper helps confirm that it's reading accurately.

In conclusion - this $20 detector works very well when tested with real CO. It's accurate, the alarm goes off at dangerous CO levels, it only goes off if CO levels are dangerous, and it might just save your life.
Helped Save My Life
February 12, 2013
I ordered this to verify one (another brand CO detector with meter) I've had went off several weeks ago. The one that I had in the house for more than three years went off and showed around 40 PPM. Since it was over three years old, I thought that it was possibly bad. So I went to Wallmart and bought a cheap CO detector without a meter. I thought I was safe, because the new one never went off. Then I read that it will not alarm until it gets to 50 PPM. I decided to buy this Kidde CO meter. My old CO detector went off again and showed about 30 PPM this time (not as cold outside during this day). I looked at the Kidde and it showed 20PPM (the Kidde alarm did not sound an alarm though). I called 911 and the firemen came to my house and took readings with their meter and showed 19 PPM. They turned off my furnace and the gas. The gas company determined that my forced air gas furnace was blowing CO throughout the house, because the furnace heat ex-changer had holes in it. They said that CO builds up in your body and is potently lethal. I actually feel physically much better now that my furnace is fixed. Sure glad I got the CO detectors WITH a meter.
Seems to be a quality product

I did a lot of reading on all the different type of CO1 detectors offered here on Amazon. I chose this model not only for my own home, but also for the customers I install CO1 units into their homes (I'm a contractor). This is not the cheapest model available and the same company makes one without the digital readout which is less expensive, but I believe it's worth the extra money to have the readout. That way, I feel that if there is a problem, it may be caught sooner than later if the amount of emissions are listed. This unit is guaranteed to last seven years as opposed to the other model without the readout at five years. It's one place I would not want to cut corners. I also prefer the types that are mounted at eye level and not into an outlet.

Works as far as I know
January 3, 2017
Won't really know until we need for it to work. However, the product was easy to install. Simply plug it in and a green light comes on to let you know that it is on and supposed to be working. Can't really give 5 stars because I have no idea if it will detect carbon monoxide, only that it is on and appears to work.

Trouble-free installation; Small and discreet; Unambiguous communication with display; (Assuming good testing of each unit.)
April 24, 2017
Small and discreet, clear communication with readable display, and trouble-free installation. I hope and assume that the individual alarm unit was diligently tested (during its made in China production) since I can't easily and don't want to be around the poisonous carbon monoxide gas, just to verify.

Wanting the longest available life-span I had bought another one from a different brand, with a 10-year built-in battery (which was made in Mexico). That one was not installable due to installation design and manufacturing issues, where a peg used for attaching the bracket to alarm was bent down. That one was also quite large and not discreet. I returned that one and got this one instead. I am happy with installation of this one. It's installation does not involve breakage-prone little pegs and holes that hard to match and slide into. The alarm slides on top of a plate with tracks, so its easy to insert or remove. It will require changing batteries, but will make that unambiguous by having a clear low battery indicator on the display. End of life indication will also be clear rather than having to interpret different types of chirps. I expect that batteries will last 3-5 years, so will likely require one or two replacements during alarm life. This one is a bit more work with battery replacement, but it was a bit cheaper too, at least for me (I paid ~$20).

(This was bought from amazon.com as the seller. To make sure that the products I buy are more likely to be legit and not a counterfeit, I pay attention to the seller I buy from. I buy from amazon.com as the seller, or another reputable seller I know, avoiding sellers with no or limited history whom I've never heard of, especially if there are not many seller reviews, or there are customer complaints there, in seller reviews, as opposed to product reviews and product star ratings.)
Good products
April 12, 2017
Not as nice as the one it replaced, I have found all my previous Kidde products to be of good quality and last beyond it's promoted life span. This appears to be working fine but you never know until you need it to work. But previous units have functioned at a great level. I have 4 units, as well as smoke detectors, scattered around the house. Never rely on just one, your life could depend on it.
A must have!
February 16, 2017
The KN-COPP-LPM is an essential device to help warn you and your family of dangerous carbon monoxide levels in your home. This alarm is a must have!

It measures the exposure to carbon monoxide over time; it is designed to sound at 85 decibels at 10 feet when it detects 70 ppm (parts per million) of CO for 60 to 240 minutes, 150 ppm for 10 to 50 minutes, or 400 ppm for 4 to 15 minutes. The easily visible digital display indicates the level of CO that the unit is sensing, and it updates the status every 15 seconds for timely and accurate readings. Its free-standing design allows for attachment to a wall or placement on a counter or nightstand for convenient and comprehensive protection.

The KN-COPP-LPM also includes a slide-out battery door that provides immediate access to the power source as well as a battery safeguard that makes it difficult to close the cover without batteries installed. An LED lighting system on the unit signals power levels and sourcing: the green LED will flash once every 30 seconds to indicate the alarm is operating properly when power is present, and the red LED will pulse to indicate carbon monoxide has been detected until the device is reset or the CO threat is eliminated.

This device has an expected 7-year lifespan and comes equipped with a five-year manufacturer’s limited warranty.

Good Unit - One Problem
January 24, 2016
The unit is a decent one with a 10 year life at a reasonable price. The problem is that that deep in the instructions in tiny text does it tell you to remove the plastic strip on the backup battery. Since I did not immediately see this, I thought the unit was defective because it was beeping every minute. There should be a bright label alerting you to this because many people don't read instructions. The unit should be plug and play. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars. The second unit had no batteries at all!

Display not backlit, back cover loose
February 21, 2016
The Amazon description says that the display is back-lit. The one I received is not. Also, the back batter cover is very loose: if you wall mount this you won't care because it hangs fine, but if you keep it on a table you will find that the back can come loose when you handle it to move it on the table for cleaning or re-arranging things. The size is good, the alarm is loud, and I like the functionality. The flashing LED status lights (including a green one every 30 seconds to indicate unit is functioning and no CO detected) are a nice feature, especially considering the unit is purely battery powered and the batteries are supposed to last a year.
It's a matter of trust
December 19, 2015
Third one for house. Well made with many features including expiration of sensor.Hope it never functions for what it is made to detect! There is a test button on itand it beeps when you push it but that's only for zero levels of CO. A green LEDlights at a timed interval to sense for CO in the air. It's a situationof trusting in the product and hoping it works if CO is ever present. Good audible alarm.
It's hard to tell how good this thing is
May 17, 2015
It's hard to tell how good this thing is. I tried informally testing this in a closed garage with my car running and this thing didn't pick up anything at first. Then I put it close to the exhaust and it started to pick up a reading after several seconds, but the alarm didn't go off. I wasn't willing to risk extending my experiment to wait for an alarm to trigger, and I realise this is far from a scientific experiment (my car meets CA emissions and who knows how much time it takes to build up a dangerous level), but in the end I wouldn't depend on this. I consider it just a backup to my main wired CO/smoke detector. It has a nice feature of keeping a memory of the peak CO levels, but one odd thing is that even after being reset or removing/replacing the battery, it always shows a peak CO level of 50 no matter what...If it wasn't so cheap, I would have given it 1-2 stars; you get what you pay for, right? The fact that it did pick up some reading indicates at least it isn't complete garbage, but I wouldn't have peace of mind with such a cheap device as my sole CO detector.
Just okay...

I thought it plugged in but it doesn't. It's such a simple reader it makes me question if it's legit.
Digital display deceiving and instructions difficult
January 15, 2015
I purchased this unit to be used on our patio since we purchased an outdoor propane heater. the patio is partially enclosed and wanted to ensure our safety from CO gas. Once opened and operational it was determined there is a disclaimer that it should not be used outdoors and temps below 40 degrees. The digital display does not show the CO levels and the directions/instructions are difficult to decipher/read (very small print). It is still unclear if the display should show current readings.Otherwise the product seems sturdy and claims to have a ten-year lifespan with an alert when that time period is reached.
Not sensitive enough
December 26, 2014
Bought it to replace the one bought 3 years ago of the same brand. Tried to compare them side by side near a boiler. The old one had readings but this new one did not. Not sure what was wrong. Returned this one for a replacement. The replacement does the same. Think the threshold may be higher (1 vs. 10). Therefore keep it for the time being.

False alarm
February 24, 2015
The alarm kept going off one night which scared me, of course. I reset it a couple times and it kept saying that the CO level was maxing out. I had another CO detector upstairs ad brought it down and set them side by side and the other one was reading all clear. I don't know if I got a bum detector or it was just getting going, but I haven't put the batteries back in since the first night.
