Five Star Reviews: | 68% Great machine especially for defrosting; worth the money! May 19, 2016 Just so you know, I'm not one of those who buys the most expensive of everything because I have to have "the best". I hate paying this much money for a microwave when I can pick up a decent one anywhere for $50, and I would have loved to have caught this on sale. But I have to say I think it's worth the money.Quality: I have only had it for two months so I can't judge its longevity, but it feels solid and well-made; I'd be surprised if it didn't last ten years. If it doesn't I'll be mad because that's part of what I'm paying for, and I will update this review with strongly-worded disgust.Cleanability: it's easier to clean than regular rotating plate microwaves, but it does still have corners and little lip edges. I was sort of hoping for a completely smooth interior, and alas, it is not. However, still an improvement over standard machines.Heating: This thing heats quickly and evenly; fastest machine I've ever owned. We had a hard time at first figuring out exactly how little time a frozen corn dog needed to get hot without bursting. (40 seconds, btw, a minute is too long)Defrosting: I wish I could give this thing ten stars for this feature. The power has four distinct levels, and unlike most microwaves, they are not just spaced bursts of power, they are literally different power levels. Defrost is so low that it would probably please the most paranoid germaphobe; it was too slow for me so I use low power instead. Either way the defrosting is amazingly even, and you NEVER get those cooked edges with an icy center. If you use your microwave frequently for defrosting then just get this microwave right now and thank me later.Ease of use: It was not intuitive. I had to read the instructions to figure out how to program the thing and set it for specific times. But once I did, it turned out to be very simple. Not intuitive, I didn't figure it out on my own, but definitely not even a little bit complicated. I haven't had to program it but I could do it easily if I wanted to. But the presents are pretty exhaustive and I actually didn't want to replace any of them. I can imagine this being a great feature for people who do a lot of microwave heating and cooking, though, so you can preprogram cooking level and time down to the second. What a microwave should be September 15, 2015 After about five years, our old Cuisinart microwave died. That seems to be within the average lifespan for microwaves in our household. Maybe bad luck, maybe it's the norm -- it certainly wasn't overuse or abuse. And as is often the unfortunate case with electronics, the repair cost was a significant fraction of replacement cost.So we bit the bullet, and sought a replacement. This time, I thought we'd look at commercial microwaves since they're built for harder and longer use than home models, though at the expense of features / bells and whistles. After some thought about what we do with a microwave, and what features we really wanted, this Panasonic unit seemed to hit the checkboxes we needed checked. We don't need a special "popcorn" button, or a temperature probe. One thing I noticed when it arrived was the lack of a "merry go round" tray to help even out cooking. Just for the heck of it, I tried an experiment to see how uneven the cooking pattern would be without moving the food. I filled a glass tray with layer of mini marshmallows and microwaved them. As expected, they puffed as they heated. As NOT expected, they all puffed evenly. NO hotspots. None. That's far better performance than expected, and far better performance than I've seen in any of our prior microwaves. As far as expected longevity, it's too soon to tell but I do notice that there's a built-in counter of the number of times it's been used -- useful in a commerial unit where there's a need to analyze traffic flow, etc. This counter goes up to one million. It has sufficient power for its sizeThe controls are easy to use and well thought out.It is programmable for complex uses.It is easy to clean. It has a strong hinge and a real door handle, not a fragile pushbutton/latch combo as on many units.Heating is very even as noted above. All in all, this is what a microwave should be. All Business August 24, 2015 Lot of reviews here so don't know that I can add much. Very nice compact no nonsense microwave. No you can't cook 25 Peking Ducks in it and no you can't play video games on it or talk to someone on the internet with it. But it has no funky rotating plate that knocks against the door if your food is a bit oversized or is constantly coming out of its spindle. If you overheat your coffee you just wipe the bottom. I originally worried that the .8 cubic ft. size might be a bit small but it holds an 11" plate easily which is about the biggest thing I ever use it for and would hold a small casserole dish I suspect. Immediately intuitive operation with easily identifiable buttons for various times that even an idiot like me can understand. Yes the cabinet sides and top are not stainless but a grey that blends in well. It sits in a kitchen with some high end stainless appliances and seems right at home. Large readable display too. No flash no dash no bells or whistles its just all business. I like it. Near Perfection April 9, 2015 Almost perfect for my needs which was to have power, compact size, easy to clean and looks - the not quite perfect on looks is that the top and sides are not stainless steel, but a silver material. It looks okay, and will not scratch as easily, but it looks a little dull. I bought this to replace an oversized microwave that was hogging too much counterspace; I celebrated when the door button/catch broke by shopping for a replacement. Here's what I like about by new baby:- Small on the outside and in particular, the bump on the back is not nearly as large as comparable ovens so there is ample room infront of it on a regular countertop.- No turntable. I was wary of this at first, but the microwaves come through the bottom of the oven, not a funky little panel in the side. This means I can put square and rectangular dishes in and not need room for them to rotate. It makes the oven a bit like a Tardis because you can get more in it than you would expect from the exterior.- Handle on the door vs a push button. It always bugged me that push buttons are situated on the side of microwaves where there is no bump on the back which means the oven moves everytime you open the door. I also never liked that sometimes the door swings open faster than I wanted - a handle on the door is much more durable and user-friendly.- Fast. Although this is 1,000 watts and my last model was 1,200 it heats food and drinks faster.- Easy to clean. The power cord is heavy smooth black type - not the flattened kind with ridges along the length that get grimy. Inside is very smooth and easy to wipe down as it the control panel.I mostly use a microwave to heat drinks and frozen leftovers (stews, soups etc.) so my needs are simple - I don't need a popcorn or fake-baked potato button. If you like those kind of features, this wouldn't be for you. If you need lots of items heated in a hurry and don't have a lot of room, this might be a good choice. More functional space than larger models December 22, 2014 I have only had this microwave for a few days, but already I adore it. Our built in GE Profile 36" wide microwave died after about 8 years. We needed a replacement quickly, because we use our microwave quite a bit. I ordered this one and got it within two days using next day shipping, which was ridiculously inexpensive compared to similar shipping from other companies. The first thing I noticed about this one compared with my old one is that the interior space, while much smaller, is used much more effectively. My old microwave was huge, but there were numerous "dead spots" inside. I could only place food in certain areas and expect it to get hot. Not so with this Panasonic. Also, the fact that there is no turntable means you need less space inside, because your plates and containers do not need to rotate. The heating element (concealed) rotates instead. So, even though we replaced a 1.8 cu. ft. microwave with this much smaller model, we have the SAME effective usable space inside. Which is pretty cool, as I was not sure it was going to do the job for us when I took it out of the box. Also the wattage is interesting, as this model is supposedly a lower wattage than our old GE Profile. I've had to cut 2 minutes off of my estimated cooking time for everything because food heats much more evenly, hotter and faster in the Panasonic. I also am a bit concerned that we used the GE Profile for so long, because it used to disrupt WiFi within a 10 foot radius. The Panasonic only bothers WiFi within about a 2 foot radius. I can only guess that it is better shielded, which makes me a little concerned about the Profile hood model that operated within inches of my face while I cooked on the stove. So, I'm guessing the Panasonic is safer in addition to being more effective. The sound it makes when food finishes heating is a bit strident. It is the only drawback, but it is LOUD, and we can hear it all over the house. It only beeps four times and then stops, which is nice. The old GE Profile model would continue nagging me every 30 seconds or so, which could be annoying when I fully realized the microwave had finished, but was in the middle of doing something else and couldn't immediately take care of the microwave. The Panasonic controls took about a day to adapt to, simply because they were different than the ones on the old model. Spend 15 minutes experimenting and reading the manual, and you'll figure it out. They're very easy to learn, and the microwave supports custom programs. That's not something I plan to do, but other people might find it convenient if they miss a particular setting that was available on their old microwave.I love that this one is so easy to clean. There are so few parts inside. Essentially, there's one thing you could remove (a guard over the air intake/vent thing) in case of a tragic spaghetti sauce explosion inside. But it's super simple to clean every nook and cranny. I appreciate the fact that there is no turntable to break or clean. There is no timer on this, so if you just want to set a timer without cooking anything, you'll need to use something else. It's very functional looking, but I don't care about that. I prefer restaurant-grade equipment because it tends to be more durable. I don't need my kitchen to win a beauty contest. It isn't ugly, but it lacks any designer touches. Not sure what other people look for in appliances, but attractiveness is not high on my list.Time will tell if this microwave lasts longer than the usual 18 to 24 months of most models available today. I will post back with updates, most likely if it fails. If there are no updates, you can assume that it's still trucking along... Fine for home use September 13, 2014 I wanted a durable, normal-sized, microwave oven that doesn't slide around while being operated. So I took a chance and ordered this one (with touch controls), sight unseen. It's exactly what I wanted.I'll skip the prose and leave you with my bullet list:* The body is mostly white, inside and out* The door (including the handle) and the control panel are mostly black with a metallic front* It doesn't look out-of-place at home, as I thought it might. In fact, it looks fancier (and shinier) in person than the press photos make it seem* The door can be opened with a single finger* It doesn't budge while pushing buttons, or opening/closing the door* It does not have, or need, a turntable* It is easy to operate. I figured out the manual controls without reading the manual* The beeps are loud, but they aren't as loud to me as I thought it would be (given that other reviewers said that it was too loud), so no need to silence it* It isn't noticeably louder while cooking than any other microwave that I've owned* It comfortably holds a typical dinner-sized (11") plate* It can be hard to see the numeric button labels if there is glare, from certain anglesI've also uploaded some pictures of it here, since there are almost none to be found online. | 63% |
Four Star Reviews: | 13% So far so good. Purchased this for a restaurant December 3, 2016 So far so good. Purchased this for a restaurant. The only thing I don't like about it is that it beeps 3 times only and not until the door is opened. For a busy restaurant continuous beeping until door is opened is needed. LIKE IT ! February 25, 2016 GOOD so far. . .very easy to use. Really like the handle vs a push button door. Only disapointmnt; description says "Stainless", detailed description says "stainless front and wrap". When it arrived,...I was disapointed to see only the front is stainless, the rest of the oven is painted grey. I think that's a little cheesy in this price point for a 0.8 cu ft microwave. The Panasonic oven this replaced was much larger, less expensive, AND ALL STAINLESS. . .but with the awful push button door. . .the reason for this replacement. VERY PLEASED November 15, 2014 We're very pleased. We bought this microwave because of a number of features that others lacked:- stainless "wrap" (sides and top) vs. a stainless front and the rest painted black or gray- logical, simple buttons- a nice old-fashioned handle -- much easier to use than push-button openers- absence of a turntable, allowing for use of some square and rectangular pans that otherwise would not have fit- a light that goes on when the door is opened- sturdiness (vs. the lightweight models we saw in stores that move when you open the door)We thought it might look very functional but it's actually reasonably attractive. We ordered from Amazon, which had the best price, free shipping, and no restocking fee should we wish to return the product. Initially, the projected shipping date was one to two months away, but we was pleasantly surprised: the microwave arrived in about two weeks. Some small negatives:- removing the orange-on-white sticker with Panasonic's service number was a nuisance.- We'll miss the easy-to-clean removable glass tray at the bottom of our 28-year-old GE Spacemaker II, Model JEM31E, which died recently. (Kudoes to it for 28 years of good service! We'll be thrilled if the new machine lasts even half that long.) But it seems that trays are a thing of the past.- There's a plastic shield on the inside right of the machine that appears to be there to protect the light from splashes. Potentially, the inside of this shield could be hard to clean, but we'll deal with that when the time comes.- As others have noted, the ready signal is loud and repetitive but can be turned off. Nice size I like that there is no turn table October 12, 2014 Nice size I like that there is no turn table. It is slower than more powerful units, but not a big deal just have to get used to 15 sec. Longer to heat up coffee. Elegantly simple machine July 17, 2013 We have used this machine in our office for several months now, and we really like it. It is so darn simple to use that it makes me wonder why I have such a complicated machine at home. There is no turntable inside and the "timer" is a spring operated dial. Nothing fancy but the thing is quite powerful and it just works. Based on its simplicity, I am expecting this microwave to last a very long time. High Initial Expense for the Home, But Worth It April 25, 2013 My wife and I looked at a lot of microwaves before deciding on this one for our new home.We wanted a commercial microwave because commercial microwaves are: * easier to clean (that's what "NSF" approved means) -- less nooks and crannies for dirt and crumbs * harder to break -- the hinges, handles, etc. are pretty solid * more reliable -- this microwave keeps count of its usage by how many *hundreds* of times it's been operated. It's meant to stand up to being used many, many times a day and keep workingCommercial microwaves like this one also don't have turntables -- they rotate the microwaving mechanism internally. No turntable = easier cleaning, less to break, and less sloshing of your food.We liked the NE-1054F because it still had a digital display / digital time buttons for accurate entry, and it has a light that stays on while the food is cooking and when the door is opened. This microwave is customizable -- if you read the manual, you can turn off the beeping (which is annoyingly loud) after cooking is finished, and you can go into "program lock" mode that makes it easy to just hit one button to start cooking. However, only giving this 4 stars since there are some quirks to this microwave. You have to have recently opened/closed the door to start cooking -- if you wait too long after closing the door, then the buttons don't work until you open/close again. Also, we ran into one issue where we heated some uncovered sauce for too long, and the steam caused the microwave to overheat / go into a safe mode. It basically seemed dead -- no buttons, no lights, no nothing. Left the microwave unplugged for a while, and it went back to normal operation after it cooled down. But the manual wasn't too helpful in this case, and we weren't sure what was going on.UPDATE 5/12/13: It turns out the overheating happened because sometimes the fan wasn't running properly. Looking inside the back grille with a flashlight showed a small piece of foam with sticky backing that was interfering with the fan blade. I managed to extract this with a coat hanger, a screwdriver, and a lot of patience, and now the fan runs properly all the time. So... still a decent microwave, but possibly some quality control issues at the factory.UPDATE 11/2/14: Have had the microwave about 1.5 years, and it's still working great. No issues other than the initial piece of loose foam reported above. | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 5% Ok, but not stainless steel inside. June 27, 2016 Decent unit but disappointed that the inside of the oven is not stainless steel. How I rate my Micro Oven. June 9, 2016 I like it, but I was expecting more cooking time for more specific recipe keys to punch in. I have to look up for timing to cook something that doesn't have any instructions. Does the job but I find the buttons a little ... May 25, 2015 Does the job but I find the buttons a little confusing. I had a similar Panasonic commercial grade and it was easier to quickly find the buttons I needed with that one. Be Warned — The Door is Plastic, Not Glass May 19, 2015 This microwave is very efficient, works like a workhorse and is great for heavy usage. However, the only drawback (which I was not aware of when I purchased it) is that the door is made of plastic, not glass! I found this out when I attempted to clean some smudges off the front of the door and it scratched the door! After further inspection I realized that the door is constructed of plastic instead of glass—both inside and outside. This detracts from the quality of the microwave and it's appearance. Now I have a brand new microwave with scratches on the front door. I think the microwave performs great, but it is definitely not good engineering to make the door out of plastic instead of glass as I was accustomed to in all previous microwaves. I loved it, but it lasted only 14 months May 14, 2015 After going through two residential microwave models in under two years (door latch failure in both cases - a common problem), I chose this commercial model for my kitchen out of frustration with the flimsiness and short lifespan of residential models.I really love this microwave, but it stopped heating in the 14th month - - only six weeks after the warranty ran out!I emailed Panasonic, but they were unresponsive.Based on reading many reviews on many websites, I decided that I had simply gotten a lemon and that the model is very durable for most people. I just bought a new one - - I'm keeping my fingers crossed. The microwave works great, but the electricity it uses is insane May 7, 2015 The microwave works great, but the electricity it uses is insane. It trips the breakers everytime. I had to get a special cord to make it work. | 13% |
Two Star Reviews: | 4% It seemed like heating was concentrated to one point September 29, 2017 It does not last long. Malfunction after 3 years. Did not distributing heating evenly. It seemed like heating was concentrated to one point, resulting spot burning glass plates. Not as durable as expected August 1, 2017 We bought a bunch of these for my 300 person office building to replace residential microwaves that just couldn't stand up to the usage. Well, these don't seem to be much better. One has just died a year and a half after installing it. I don't expect the thing to last forever but we got about the same amount of time from the residential ones that cost half as much. ... wobbly and it came right out of the box like this. March 14, 2017 The door is wobbly and it came right out of the box like this. Was ok while it lasted.... January 26, 2016 I bought this microwave less than a year ago after a chef friend of mine recommended getting a commercial microwave. She said they were worth the investment because they lasted longer and were made to hold up to heavier use. We only used it for home use and it died only 8 months after getting it. It's still under warranty, but trying to get in contact with someone from Panasonic is hopeless. I have tried numerous times to get in contact with them without any luck. When you call the phone number you get an automated recording. After finally getting in contact with a real person, they inform you that they can't help because this microwave is a commercial product, and they only help with home products. They then say they will transfer you to the commercial microwave number, but that just gets you back to the beginning automated system. If you try the only option that says anything about commercial repairs or the "call for service" number on the microwave, you sit on hold. I've called three times now. The first time I was on hold for 32 minutes before I gave up. Second time I was on hold for about 45 minutes. The final time I set my phone down and left it on hold for over an hour and a half before quitting, still without results. I also tried contacting them online and was referred to the nearest authorized repair place which is about 30 miles away, however when I called the repair place they informed me they would fix it, but I would have to pay for it. The warranty is apparently only valid directly through Panasonic, and they would have to contact the repair place to get the warranty to work. Junk,,, how so many good reviews??? September 20, 2013 ok i have this in my restaurant,,,, its weak 1st off,,, 2nd i dont know how many times i've hit time then start and its run through its cycle but didnt heat the food at all,,, like just the timer was going and the microwave was lit up,,, piece of junk and i dont know how it got so many good reviews | 12% bad product for the price..... September 8, 2015 Looks nice and compact. However, the door does not shut very well, the piece above the door button is coming off and it is very noisy. Only have had it for about 2 months. |
One Star Reviews: | 10% it was a complete waste of money August 16, 2017 We purchased this microwave for our office's kitchen and it stopped working less than 5 months later. We shipped it back to the manufacturer per the seller's instructions for repair but the manufacturer said it was damaged in transit so they will not fix nor replace it. So, it was a complete waste of money. Panasonic 1054F June 6, 2017 This microwave oven arrived promptly without damage. However, I installed it after the return date. This microwave did not work properly as the program buttons #6 and # 10 and the programing function did not work. Panasonic support was non -existent I had it repaired at a Panasonic repair facility in Raleigh but Panasonic would not authorize the repair. Basically this microwave was junk without support when shipped from the Chinese factory. H Richardson MD RECEIVED DAMAGED. SENT BACK. December 30, 2016 Microwave came broken. Door latch broke off. VERY DISAPPOINTED. SENT BACK. Worked for less than a year. August 6, 2016 Failed after 8 months. Pursuing warranty claim. Disappointed. Programmable version died exactly 366 days after purchase November 23, 2015 Very non-intuitive programming; worst part is that it simply stopped working last night- 8/6/16 - after light use.Unit was purchased 8/7/15 Uneven heating: ice crystals & steam May 14, 2015 When microwaves were new, I could understand and forgive cold pockets. Today, there is no excuse for a microwave like this one that can warm a microwave safe plate to near breaking while leaving ice crystals on the food. This microwave has extremely uneven heating. It is not useful for small portions, like heating a frozen meal. Okay for warming foods that conduct heat readily, like a cup of water. Count me particularly unimpressed. If you buy this microwave, you will need to find & insert a manual rotation plate--if such can even be found today. To be fair, this microwave has many nice features. However, it fails the basic microwave test: "can it cook food evenly." | 12% Buyer beware! This does not fit a standard 11" ... August 26, 2015 Buyer beware! This does not fit a standard 11" dinner plate. I read a review that it does from another site but when I got it, there was no way it would fit. It cost me $46 for UPS ground to ship it back! |
