Hey Kids... Eat Your Sunflower Seeds!
May 4, 2017
Anyone who likes sunflower seeds should have no trouble eating five pounds of the little morsels in short order. Buying sunflower seeds this way sure beats buying those little one-ounce tubes for a dollar in a convenience store---while you're really eye-balling the big display of Little Debbie Swiss Rolls and Snack Cakes. In the comfort of your home you can gorge yourself on these wholesome sunflower seeds without all the distraction caused by donuts, potato chips, and soft serve ice cream. These sunflower seeds are delicious. I use them in salads, cereals, and in my bread baking. For some unfathomable reason, I keep thinking that "Bob" at the Red Mill is really Buffalo Bob from the old Howdy Doody Show. If you're old enough to remember that, you should be eating lots of sunflower seeds. ;)
Delicious healthy snack, must try toasting yourself.

Great value, seeds seem to be fresh. I love bob's red mill brand. I prefer toasted sunflower seed over raw, and did not notice tat when i purchased these, but they are very simple to toast at home. I just pan fry them with a little avocado oil and sea salt. They make for a great snack. Taking the time to prepare my food also helps me eat less and loose weight.
Very good, raw sunflower seeds
November 10, 2015
Fresh, raw, shelled sunflower seeds with no salt added. These arrived in excellent condition, very safely packaged (four individual bags in a manufacturer's labeled box) with decent expiration dates. To improve the shelf-life by almost 3X, keep one bag of your seeds in a glass jar in the fridge and then freeze the rest. When I freeze mine, I snip a tiny corner of the bag and place in vacuum bags and then vacuum seal them before freezing.
Plain natural seeds, packaged well, no dud seeds.

Tastes bland as expected in an all natural product. Great flavor when added to things (salads, etc...) but to eat them by themselves, you may be missing the flavor/salt like other brands. This is a good thing, I now know how bland natural sunflower seeds are. Aside from that, no duds/burnt/defective ones, I cant complain except for my tastebuds. My wife fully embraced them and adds them to everything as they are a great source of vitamin E. For me personally, I would rather run longer so I can sweat out the sodium stored in my body so I can enjoy the salted versions. If you want to get all the benefits without the extra sweat/run, this is your product. I can't fault Red Mill, they provided as advertised. Packaged well, and quality seeds. 5 stars because my personal taste really doesn't matter in this quality product.
DELICIOUS, MULTIPLE USES, FRESH AND WELL PACKAGED
April 6, 2013
I have not had any problem with these seeds with regard to debris in the package that a few people have reported. This is the second time I've ordered them, and they've all been very pure. I use sunflower seeds a LOT in salads instead of croutons. You get a lot of nutritional bang for your buck without empty calories. When I make bread, I also include a liberal amount of these seeds. Likewise, when I cook oriental style food, I throw a handful of these into the dish when it is fully cooked. Again, they give a satisfying crunch that contrast nicely with soft vegetables. I used to use those packaged fried noodles to get the crunch, but the health value was nil. Occasionally, I will make my own "trail mix" and include the sunflower seeds in that. They are also really tasty on a sweet yogurt. The packaging is wonderful. 4 bags come protected in a very sturdy box that is easily opened with a tape at the side. After I receive them, I put a few in the freezer and store one in the fridge, though I am sure they would keep nicely in the cupboard as well.
Great, no frills food.

Simply put...these are raw sunflower seeds and nothing else. They dont have the 'organic' tag, so be aware of that if it will be a determining factor for your purchase. However, they are simply just clean, unsalted seeds, that for me, are both a perfect snack and a useful ingredient. Although not on an exclusively plant-based diet, i mostly adhere to that philosophy, and am vegan regardless. So...i look for ways to avoid using oil and such in my foods, and raw sunflower seeds make a great substitute for oil in salad dressings and such. Anyways, four big bags of sunflowere seeds such as you would receive if you order this, will go a long ways in your kitchen. Whether as a snack, ingredient, or both, i figure one order will last you two months on average. A very good product at a very reasonable price, especially with subscribe & save.Enjoy!

Bought by mistake
November 9, 2016
I thought I was buying pumpkin seeds. This was a bit to much for me. Product is good, I shared with family and still have alot left over.
Not for me still a great product
November 1, 2016
These are great on salads and things like that, but by themselves I find them a little lacking. Recently I started losing weight and would eat these as a snack, however for the same calories their were other options more valuable to me. I realize this a personal taste thing though so I wouldn't say it is something bad about this product.
Good seeds. Supurb roasted. Fresh.
July 22, 2015
Exceptional amazon deal. Great seeds. Roasted in a pan on the stovetop and they are delicious to eat as a snack or as a topping on many things. Best of all they were fresh, not rancid. Almost every sunflower seed bought over the last few years were rancid. Not these.
Fresh, but a tip about toasting
January 28, 2015
I found the seeds perfectly fresh, and make sure to keep them refrigerated so they'll stay that way. One thing I discovered: even if you toast them in the oven to bring out their flavor, put them back in the fridge when cooled, as the oil will still go rancid.
Salt free seeds!
November 20, 2014
Finally, sunflower seeds that aren't laden with half a ton of salt! The price on these is a tad bit high, however the quality seems to be pretty good, though I can't say they are any better than ones found in the grocery store except these don't have the salt. I don't find the plastic bags these come in particularly great, would prefer a glass jar like the store bought Planters have, but it's easy enough to pour these out of the bag once opened and keep them in a jar. One thing to keep in mind with online ordering of seeds is you don't want to order in the hot summer months as these things will spoil during shipping, nothing good about seeds sitting in the back of a hot mail truck as they are driven from state to state.
Yummy seeds!
August 30, 2013
I wasn't familiar with red mill natural sunflower seeds before going on amazon. I am more then happy the rich natural flavors of these seeds. I was concerned that I wouldn't like it without having salt on the seeds, but I find I really now prefer the seeds come natural like this product has to offer. I won't be ordering again anytime soon because the bags were a little larger then expected. I might have over estimated the quantity of seeds and need to find some ways to use them better then snacks and salads. Good product...good seller..BUT would have prefer these seeds to be in smaller bags so I don't have to worry about seeds going bad to quickly.

Best by date
March 13, 2017
Item received on March 6. Today when I went to open carton, I notice the "best by" date is March 11. I will assume the product is edible until I discover otherwise. Just a bad presentation. If it possible and warranted, I'll rate higher later. Bob's is usually good stuff.
Not good for sprouting
August 13, 2015
Normally I like Bob's products. However I sprout my sunflower seeds and these have way too many broken pieces to be good for sprouting,.
Not salted.
November 26, 2014
Not the salted or tastier type that i expected which i eat at restaurants.Else, its fine.
Ouch (still)
October 14, 2014
Having read the reviews warning of dangerously hard, plastic-like bits mixed in with the seeds, I decided to risk it for a variety of reasons including but not limited to:- That the negative reviews tended to be several years past (so perhaps the problem was found and fixed)- Brand loyalty (so many high quality and reasonably-priced products consumed over the years without a single problem)- Inability to find another option generally agreed to be superior within the same price rangeI scanned the product when it arrived and didn't see any obvious impurities (other than the natural, to be expected deformation of some seeds - which still resembled seeds). Sure enough, I found the pieces the hard way (no pun intended), by chomping down on them. Extracted them and verified that:1) They were much harder than seeds (chewing harder wouldn't have broken them up further, just my teeth).2) They were entirely different colors - black on the surface like plastic or unusually smooth charred wood, redwood-esque in the middle (but still very hard for wood).3) Unlike wood, they seem impervious to moisture (they remained just as hard through a soaking of about eight hours). So, as I sit here writing this review while still in pain, I thought I'd clarify that this is still a problem with ***lot number 169829 which carries a sell by date of 06/04/2015***. Obviously I'll be sending documentation (including pictures from various angles) to the mill but perhaps if enough of us can correlate our experiences it will help narrow down the problem (and at the very least create an early warning system for other customers)The anomalous pieces seem to be very few in number and not necessarily in every bag, while the remainder of the product (actual sunflower seed) is high quality and delicious (hence going with 3 stars instead of 1). I find it particularly intriguing that (so far) none of the many other products of theirs which I use or have used exhibits contamination, just the sunflower seeds. I'm guessing it has something to do with sieve and sifter filters and coincidental density, but that still doesn't explain how the foreign matter (not appearing to be any nearby part of the food-producing plants) entered the pipeline in the first place. If 'bob' ever manages to fix the contamination problem, I'll be the first to buy another batch, but until then I'm going to search elsewhere for a reliable source of sunflower seeds, and keep using Bob's Red Mill for other products.
Not "Natural"
September 25, 2013
I really liked to think that Bob's Red Mill products are "natural" as they say. However, this word seems to be used in a misleading way. Their sunflower seeds, and other products they label as "natural" are not organically certified. Therefore there is no proof that pesticides are not used on these seeds. I wrote to Bob's about this and received the following reply:"Our Raw Sunflower Seeds are not certified organic. Because of this, we are unable to determine which specific chemicals, if any, are used on the conventionally grown products we sell. I can tell you for sure that our farmers demonstrate safe agricultural practices in accordance to USDA law."So what does "natural" really mean after all?
Really Raw???
September 13, 2013
I've liked most all the Bob's Red Mill products I've bought and I was loving these sunflower seeds until about 6 months ago when more and more burnt seeds showed up in the bags. Who wants pre-burned sunflowers in their Sunbutter?Since I do not sprout my sunflower seeds, I can't dispute whether they are really raw or not, but I got to thinking, if the process is so hot that it's burning some of the seeds, what about the ones that aren't burned? Anyway, just a hmmmmmm thought for me. I've moved on to get my sunflower seeds at my local whole foods store. I still buy a lot of other Bob's Red Mill products though and have no complaints.

January 20, 2017
I received the seeds on 1/20/17 and the Best Buy Date for the seeds is 2/12/17.I can't use four 20 oz bags in three weeks.Come on Amazon ship fresh stock.
Mmmmm sunflower seeds... wait, worms!?!!?
January 16, 2016
Normally I love these sunflower seeds... But I bought 4 boxes (~18 pounds) and 17 of those 18 pounds either had meal moth silk threads in them, or ACTUAL, LIVING MEAL MOTH LARVAE IN THEM... It was so disgusting. Amazon is replacing them for me (from a different lot #). If you get boxes from Lot # 195372, inspect your bags really well before opening them.. if you see the threads clumping seeds together (or worse, see the larvae) message Amazon IMMEDIATELY and get them replaced!

Bob's Red Mill Natural Sunflower Seeds are definitely NOT FRESH and sadly I bought a full case!!! i will not buy this brand of raw Sunflower Seeds ever again!!! Eww...STALE!
June 25, 2014
Got these...they taste awful! So stale!!! Extremely disappointed, since I was going to give these out as prizes in my classroom. I know it sounds weird...but my students LOVE sunflower seeds.
Awful Experience!
May 15, 2013
I've purchased this product multiple times over a six month period. The first few were wonderful. The last time I ordered the sunflower seeds had gone bad. I called to report the issue and was given a replacement. I specifically told the customer service representative the lot number and stated that all seeds with that lot number were likely bad. My replacement was the same lot number and was also bad.It is my belief that these were stored improperly as the use by date was still a year away at that point. Many people do not know that raw sunflower kernals need to be stored in a freezer or at the very least in a refridgerated environment. Up to the point of the last two sets of seeds I received, the seeds had always been cool upon arrival. Not so this time. The taste was awful and the small bite I had to determine whether the rest were good caused me to be ill. If you want a product of this type, I recommend getting them from a whole foods store or organic market nearby. I will not purchase these online again.
