The best smoker I have ever owned
April 19, 2017
This is a fantastic smoker! It arrived 3 weeks ago and I have smoked, ribs, brisket, butt, shoulder, duck, sausage, pork loin and pork belly and they all were wonderful. It is easy to use and easy to clean. The temperature stays on point, the wood chips are easy to load and the rack hold a lot of whatever you are smoking!I highly recommend - in fact a great friend of mine ordered one the day after i did and loves it too! Your smoker friends will give you grief because it is not "real" smoking and all I have to say is I am not staying up all night trying to maintain the temp and load wood and when it's time to eat all I hear is compliments.
Must buy for smoking meat and fish!

Love this! Smoking meat is so easy this way. Chicken and brisket are my favorite tonsmoke in this (will need to cut the brisket in half)!

I cannot say enough good things about this unit
January 29, 2017
I cannot say enough good things about this unit. It is consistent, it is simple, it is easy to use, and practically worry free. This is not even mentioning the glorious smoked foods it can produce. This in mind, there is a small learning curve involved. Electric Smokers are like Convective Crock Pots, so getting foods to 'bark' (That crust we all think about when doing barbecue) properly can be a little bit of a challenge. The key to it is the Vent and Water Pan. With the vent fully open, it allows full heat, airflow, and smoke to create the charring; it creates a delicate smoke flavor that is earmarked by that earmark red smoke ring about a 1/16th of an inch below the surface of the food. This also means the water evaporates a little more quickly. This also necessitates one to pre-soak wood chips in water for 30 minutes, then drain and pat dry before using. Doing this extends the time it takes between loads to roughly one hopper-full (which equates to about a cup!) every 2 hours. Also, do not fill the water pan with too much water - about half full beneath particularly savory meats will do. Add more for meats that may dry out quickly. Less for extremely fatty meats. It is efficient, consistent, and simple to upkeep - a good machine for the novice smoker to start with, or for old pros looking to not spend every hour or two peeking under the hood. :>
I love the way the food cooks and taste
December 30, 2016
I have had this about a 1 1/2 months. I love the way the food cooks and taste. The only thing I would recommend would be that there were wheels on the unit. I got my wheels at Lowes.I have had this unit for a several months. I love how easy it is to smoke great tasting meat.
great unit for the money
December 28, 2016
works very well ,we now have 3 of these and have had 0 problems. however as with all smokers i have used the cooking temp really has a swing between the max temp and when the burner kicks back on to reasume cooking when the sensor has decided to kick it back on, about 40 to 50 degrees. kind of odd but it seems to not bother the cooking time at all. sooooo if you use a wireless cooking temp unit don't be worried and make no adjustments. it will be fine! Also, if you are like most people you may need an extention cord to get to a elect box. Make sure you use a heavy duty elect cord like one for a window A/C unit,as it does draw a good amount of current.

Works perfect every time
August 14, 2016
I do not have one complaint about this smoker. I've made ribs, chicken, beef sticks and jerky. Works perfect every time. And the remote control makes this a great tool for the busy body. No more having to go out and check the temperatures. I can view them right on the remote.
Excellent electric smoker
February 6, 2016
I spent quite a bit of time researching various smokers before purchasing this one. There are a few reviews that it didn't work well, but most liked it. We use this almost every weekend to smoke something. Our friends are totally envious.
Pluses: Remote control, internal thermometer, many racks, electronic set temperature, wheels to move it around, tube to put more wood in.
We have the remote control and that is awesome - you can set and check the unit temperature, the internal thermometer to check the meat, and time it's cooked so far. I really like that you can put in more wood without having to open the door.
Minuses: clean up, window hard to clean
While having a window seems neat, it really isn't worthwhile becuase it's hard to clean and see inside. The lower tray (where the water tray is) is hard to remove and clean. The very bottom tray is easy to remove and clean though.
Master built has a lot of additional items you can get that will help - like a mesh tray for jerky/fish, beer can chicken holder, sausage holder, rib holder, etc. We have gotten most of these and they work well.
Masterbuilt also has a website with recipes and you can find recipes on other sites. I'm still learning what works and what doesn't - it's a lot of fun. The meats seem to take a lot longer than the recipes to cook but in the end, it's delicious.

We have smoked so much in this from an 18lb turkey to a rack of ribs.... No complaints
Still smoking.
November 9, 2015
Awesome!!! I have looked at all the different brands and sizes for a while now and decided on this one mainly for the price and meat probe. All I can say is I picked a winner. I have used it three times the first week and love it. I did chicken legs and country style ribs first, best I ever smoked, got the ribs a little dry but that was my bad. Small pork butt turned out great. Just got finished with two large pork butts (21 pounds total) and I have never seen pork so tender, literally had problems picking it up to bring it in. I will have to say though, its a pretty good job cleaning it up but worth it. Don't have any illusions that it will ever be shiny and new looking again but it is a smoker, who really cares what it looks like on the inside as long as its clean. I am planning on doing a turkey for thanksgiving, hope it goes well. This thing takes all the work out of smoking, just add a few chips every hour or so and sit back and watch the remote display to see the meat temp. It don't get no easier than that. My wife even used it to cook the small butt and it turned out super!

Only One Obvious Flaw
December 27, 2016
I've only used it once so far, but the results have been excellent. The cooking and flavor is up to you, so I'll just review the hardware. It's lighter than I expected, but certainly durable. You can adjust to seal the door tighter if you like. It didn't get as hot to the touch on the outside as I thought it would. So, accidental burns shouldn't be a worry from the outside. Read the safety precautions and instructions. They are very clear on what you should and should not do. (Especially on how to set time and temp because you must do both at the same time.)The racks and internal stuff are a bit thinner/more lightweight than I expected, but not flimsy. It's still durable, but light enough to help with the overall weight of the unit.Cleaning is a bit dirty, but it is what it is. Don't hose the unit, but you can take the drip pans and stuff out and hose that off.Honestly, the biggest negative is the digital display is super hard to read in daylight. You have to block the sun to read it. It's certainly not a deal breaker, but it is what makes this unit only 4 out of 5 stars.I find it regulates temp well. It'll go high and low depending on opening and steaming, etc. But, it recovers just fine. It takes 20-30 mins to preheat.I cooked 2 different meats on it on one day and I am very satisfied. I have only used it once, so take this review for what it's worth.
BEWARE - It can become addictive!
December 16, 2015
Let me tell you a little about this electric smoker. Ours is over a year old now, so it has some use behind it.It only needs minor assembly out of the box. - attaching handle, feet, etc. It does have wheels, so you can move it around a bit. They are small plastic coaster type wheels, so don't expect to be rolling it over rough areas or for long distances. The door has an adjustable latch on it, so as the seal gets squished a bit, you can make the latch tighter. I like having the glass door on the front, but I do have to admit that once you get some smoke rolling, and if you have moisture in there (from the meat or if you add it in the pan), the door is going to smoke and steam up pretty quickly and you won't be able to see inside for long. There is a light, but it is on the outside, and just reflects off the glass when the door is closed. The racks inside are adjustable. I recommend taking the ones you aren't using out, so you don't have to clean them after using them. They scrub up pretty easily with soapy water.I had quite a mess inside after the first few uses. Then I figured out how to make clean up easier. If possible, put your items in a disposable aluminum pan. I was worried it would keep the meat from getting smoky enough, but it wasn't a problem at all. You can also add liquid right to your pan if you want. (For instance I put apple juice in the pan with turkey breast to keep it moist.) The pan contains all the drippings and makes clean up a breeze. Also, wrap the drip deflector, water pan, and grease pan in foil! This is a huge help. Then instead of scrubbing after use, just toss the foil. I do not clean the walls of the smoker, as you want them seasoned. To easily clean the glass, use Weber's grill cleaner and rinse after with water. It makes clean up easy! There is a built in meat thermometer that works very accurately. With the included remote, you can check on your meat temps without ever leaving your chair. We've had no problems with the remote. After a year of moderate use, the temperature set button is not working on our front panel. They do sell replacement panels for the front, but the problem is easily remedied by simply using the remote to set the temp. The wood chip tray works pretty easily. It does not hold a very large quantity at a time. So you do have to tend to your wood chips during your smoking. They will burn up within the first 30-45 mins if you are using dry chips. You can make them last longer by soaking them in water first. We usually keep the chips burning steady for the first part of cooking to add lots of smoke, and then let them die down near the end.Masterbuilt does sell a lot of replacement parts for the unit. They sell a replacement heating element and it isn't very expensive. I've heard that is one of the first things to go. We bought an extra one with ours, but haven't had any issues with ours. It seems to hold the heat pretty well. Don't forget you will get fluctuations because there is air coming in from the chip tray and exiting out your vent. I've used it in temps of 30 degrees outside and it still worked well. And the finished smoked product? EXCELLENT! We have not made a meal in this smoker that we did not love! There was not one piece of turkey left over on Thanksgiving day. We have mainly used it for meats, but have also smoked veggies in there as well. I've done some cheating as well. Take one of those rotisserie chickens from your local grocery and warm it up in the smoker, add some smoke, and get good smoked chicken in the time it takes you to warm it up.I think the smoker has held up nicely. I like that replacement parts are available when something does go wrong. AND...the food tastes great! Beware, smoking your meats can become very addictive.
Wonderful smoky ribs. This will pay for itself if it lasts.
July 28, 2015
So I know there are durability questions about this smoker, I cannot address that yet as I first used it this last weekend. What I can say is that it smoked some amazing ribs with almost no trouble. I don't get ribs this good at any local place. Putting wood chips in the housing is a little tedious. They have to fit all the way in so that compartment will close fully. Adding chips is easy. The temp is pretty close on the digital LED compared to my calibrated thermometer. Heat is fairly consistent top to bottom. Lined the bottom drip pan with foil and it cleaned right up. Water pan stayed full with drippings and water for the 6 hours at 220 I used for the ribs. Made lots of smoke with just a few chips. Don't soak them. If it lasts I will use this smoker a lot since it is so easy.
Good Customer Service
July 6, 2015
In general the smoker works well. I've smoke ribs, brisket, and chicken so far. The design for loading wood chips is excellent. It comes up to temperature quickly and holds it real well. The window, light, and meat thermometer are nice features but if I were to buy another unit I'd look at just the basic design, including the analog temp control. The digital control and remote were very "temperamental" right out of the box. The digital control constantly shuts off if you do things like toggle the temperature up/down to fast, try to view the heat thermometer, or turn the light on/off. Its good once you final get the temp and time set but its frustrating to unplug and plug it back in several times before you get there. I have it plugged directly into a 15amp GFI. The GFI never trips, its the controller that shorts. Its to bad the digital control real sucks because the units pretty good.I followed up masterbuilt customer service and they were very helpful. They said the problem I was experiencing was not the controller but a wiring problem and offered to replace the unit since it was still under warranty. The customer service rep (Tiffany) did a great job handling my problem. I'll buy another from them just because of the customer service experience.
If in doubt, Buy THis!!!

I gotta admit, this thing is pretty awesome! It can make someone who doesn't know his/her way around a kitchen feel like a gourmet chef, it makes everything taste that good! It's very roomy. We had a party for 30 people and were able to fit in 20 skewers of bacon wrapped dates, a fairly large pork loin and 12 large chicken breasts at once.It is a messy preposition though. Manufacturer doesn't recommend it per se, but a few online videos we watched do, to wrap each component (except for the grates) in foil. Grease will drip out of the bottom of the unit at times so you need to be conscious of what type of surface you place this on and if it will stain. That is why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. It's messy and even after dish washing all the components, the grease never quite comes out. I'm OK with that, we'll call it "seasoning" but every time you touch anything in there, hands, clothes, everything is sticky right away.I would definitely recommend this and I even wish we would have got a bigger one. I also think this is easier to use than a gas grill, not to mention safer. As far as I can tell, nothing can really blow up here (except for your waistline once you discover the smoked bacon wrapped dates recipe)! ;-P
Nice Smoker.

I had a Bradley electric smoker for about 7 years and I had dropped it and broke the control panel. I chose this to replace it and have only used it once but seems to do the job. I do prefer the interior of the Bradley (shelves etc.)...maybe because I am used to it. With the latch on the Masterbuilt it is more difficult to open the smoker with only one free hand. I preferred the automatic wood pucks in the Bradley since I could leave it overnight without having to add wood. But It does seem that the MB is smokier. I also think the Masterbuilt heats better (may just be that it is newer) and I like the digital readout. With the Bradly you set the temp from low to high and then monitor the thermometer adjusting higher or lower until it gets where you want it and leave it there (of course if it gets colder overnight outside, for instance, you may need to adjust again). With the MB you set to the digital temp you want and it will strive to keep smoker at that temperature. In that sense the Bradley is like a car A\C (you constantly adjust the fan speed/temp if you get too hot or cold) and MB is like the Thermometer for your house A/C...set it to the temp you want and it will try to ensure it stays at that temp.

So easy to use!
July 11, 2016
We purchased this smoker about 6 months ago to replace our falling apart charcoal smoker. We are so glad we did! It is so much easier to just push a button than to mess with charcoal all day. We mainly got it to smoke our homemade bacon, but after we discovered how easy it is to use we have started smoking so much more. We even did our Christmas prime rib in the smoker and it was unbelievable! Having the remote makes it easy to monitor from inside the house and the built in probe thermometer makes it easy to monitor the temperature of our food. It heats up very quickly (in the summer in AZ it only takes about 10 minutes to get up to 250).

I wish the hole for adding wood chips was a bit bigger. Some of the chips we buy are chopped a little too big to go in and we have to spend time chopping them up. I also wish there was the ability for an alarm or auto-shutoff based on the temperature of the meat. It makes you set a cooking time, but most of the time you are smoking to a specific temperature and not a specific time.

We purchased the optional legs with wheels. It is helpful to have it sitting up higher and so much easier to move when needed.
Having a great time with this smoker
March 19, 2016
Having a great time with this smoker. I am still new, but learning from my mistakes very quickly. Product seems worth the money so far. I had an issue with my handle initially, they said they would send new one. I haven't seen it. Also on my second remote. It's actually fun enough that I don't care. I can't say this is a great smoker cause this is my first, but damn it if it isn't fun. After I received my remote, I am very happy with this purchase. If I were to do it again, I'd get windowless. Can't see Jack through this thing.
Good Smoker, Temp Off
January 22, 2016
Good smoker, like the features. Deducting a star as the temp is off by about 30 degrees. I used 2 different thermometers to check it and I can adjust it now that I know it's off. Glad I checked it.
Love my smoker!
November 9, 2015
All positive here...

All the things that make smoking hard, is what this smoker does is makes it easy -
- Easy to use smoking chips chamber
- Digital temperature control
- Lots of rack levels
- Digital timer
- Digital meat probe - perfect for cooking poultry!

I would highly recommend this smoker! One suggestion is to purchase the base unit (I did not purchase it so I have to bend over to check my items and end up with a face full of smoke when the wind isn't just right).

Update: This unit is not "outdoor friendly" - but is still an awesome smoker. If you happen to put this on your patio, please make sure it stays dry. The control unit will eventually become inoperable if it gets exposed to weather. On the plus side, dealing with warranty service was actually pretty good. So before your warranty runs out, make sure you check it carefully for all possible issues.

Great for when it works, however 2 years in heating element beings to short out
September 4, 2016
I've had this smoker for 2 years, it worked great up until this year in which it kept shorting out. Unforunately it seems it happens to many others who have used this model. It seems to be a problem with the heating element causing it to short and tripping the fuse. I am already out of the warranty period as I am told (1 year) so I will be looking at moving on from an electrical smoker to a more manual charcoal smoker.
Great smoker, not very reliable
December 8, 2015
The smoker worked great for the first 4 uses then it stopped working. I contacted Masterbuilt which indicated this is likely due to an internal wiring short. Other reviewers seem to have had similar problems. The good news is that they are replacing the whole unit with no hassle. I hope the new is more reliable than the old one because when it works it is great.
Inspect the unit FULLY on arrival...
October 26, 2015
I wish I had known then what I know now. Be VERY careful if you order one of these. Unpack it and check it THOROUGHLY... IMMEDIATELY. I let mine sit a few weeks and then unpacked it. I immediately smoked some pork butts, some trays of chicken wings, some ribs, some salmon... all done to perfection.HOWEVER... the first two times, there was a small ring of residue around one of the feet. I wiped it up and thought "I must have slopped some dirty water out when I was wiping the inside down". The third time... I knew I hadn't - and the ring was more pronounced. So I elevated the unit and looked at the bottom. It appears the leg got slightly bent in transit - and leaks a little. It also does not turn (I would have realized that if the unit had come out of whack... but it was so perfectly level I didn't have to mess with the feet). So I went back to Amazon - and the unit was only covered for 30 days. Now I have to go back to the manufacturer... and most likely that will require me shipping the unit back and forth. The cost of that will wipe out the savings I got by ordering it from Amazon. I should have bought this locally so I had a local dealer to work with on the issue. So - my rating would be a 4 or a 5 (probably should have gone propane... but that is my fault) for the smoker itself, but as is - when you average in the negative aspect of the vendor experience (although to be honest - only my second issue ever with Amazon fulfillment... and I have ordered HUNDREDS of things from them... so still not a bad track record) - I will give it a 3.
LASTED JUST THREE YEARS OF LIGHT USE
June 6, 2015
The three stars are because the unit only lasted three years before failing to report for duty this morning in time for a big family gathering. Further, the firebox is rusted out. I found the racks too narrow for full ribs. It should be about four inches wider. Other than that, with just occasional use, it worked okay. I liked the digital controls, set it and forget it. I will upgrade to a larger and sturdier unit after shopping for the next week.
Good for two years....and then...
October 26, 2014
I've been smoking with this model for about two years now and finally decided to post a review. For the money, it's been great. It keeps a pretty steady temp and I've not had any problems with it** (see update below). There is just one drawback - there is an area in the back right corner of all of the racks where you can't put anything or it gets turned to charcoal. The smoker box is in the bottom right and the smoke vent in the top right. I am guessing the smoke travels this path and is what's causing this phenomenon. It's unfortunate because about 1/4 of your rack space is unusable. I had never smoked anything before buying this smoker so it was a low cost way for me to experiment and dial in recipes and technique. I've outgrown this little guy and will start looking for a larger and more sophisticated smoker, but this was a great starter box.****Update literally 30 minutes after I wrote the original review*****I had jerky in marinade which made me think to write the review in the first place. I'll be danged if I didn't go out to turn the smoker on and it wouldn't turn on. It kept blowing the GFI. I checked all the obvious/easy things (plug, cord, control box) for exposed/shorted wires and no such luck. I looked online and have found it's pretty common for the wires inside to corrode over time. Unfortunately, my afternoon plans just became very different. The back is riveted on, so the only way to remove it is to drill the rivets out and track down the shorted wires. Reduced my review by a star.
great Q shoddy construction
June 29, 2014
On my third unit and keep hoping for a more durable unit ,,the welds and rivets are shoddy eventually after about 3 years the door falls off the unit and well before that the gaskets rot away , the wiring will need to be tweaked and spliced and the unit falls into the time for the trash zone ,, BUT while it works it produces great BBQ of all kinds set the temp to the max for everything at 275 you get a nice low and slow cook and just enough browning and caramelizing to take your Q over the top ..The electric with real wood cooking has none of the nasty off flavors found in propane setups and the thermostat simplifies everything no babysitting the fire all day and night .so in the modern world of crappy construction at least this unit will put out some great Q for a couple of years before it craps out .PS go for the less expensive smaller no glass units no matter what upgrades you get it's still only going to last a 2-3 years max and the smaller unit is plenty big enough to feed the whole block. The window is a silly waste of money the darn thing is full of smoke when in use so you can't see squat and after a couple of uses the window is smoked dark ,,

Not built-like-a-tank, but designed & built well enough to dothe job without spending a ton of money. (SEE UPDATE)
December 6, 2015
This is NOT a "high-end" electric smoker. It is very typical of Made In China products these days... it's inexpensively made, but the design SEEMS sufficient for the job. Yes, there are plastic parts around the bottom front you could kick with your shoe on a cold evening and shatter the plastic... don't do that. If the smoker is on legs or a stand (we had our "guys" make a stand to put it at chest-level so we don't have to bend over to put things in and take things out. Yes, the plastic molding around the controls at the top-front edge is a little odd looking and doesn't blend-in as well as you might like. But this is EXACTLY what you are going to get when you don't want to pay the much higher prices for a top-of-the-line smoker Made In the USA. You pay less, you get less, BUT what you get WORKS (so far). Is it NECESSARY to pay the extra cost of a well-made and much more expensive Made In USA smoker? Time will tell, but out of the box, this smoker seems to be doing what it was designed to do. If you are not happy with the meat that comes out of the smoker... it's easy to blame the smoker, but mostly, the problem is going to be that the smoker was not used correctly by the owner. It shouldn't be that hard, but there is undoubtedly a learning curve since smoking cooks at temperatures much lower than ovens or bar-b-ques -- necessary to infuse the smoke into the meat. One thing I was surprised NOT to see in the description of the product was whether or not it was insulated. I assumed at this price, this product would NOT be insulated but I was surprised to find that it DOES have insulation in the sides, top, and bottom at the very least (can't tell if the door is insulated or not). This is important because uninsulated smokers can have a lot of trouble in colder temperatures. Not that the amount of insulation in this smoker will help if it is Zero degrees F! If you live in an area with really cold weather, don't be too surprised if you can't smoke when the temperature gets below 35 degrees or so. You'd have to have a super-insulated smoker for it to be useful in really cold temperatures. Range of the remote control... in an average-size house, the remote works fine even if I'm at the front door (inside) and the smoker is on the back porch. So no range complaints from me. The one thing that I'm not sure about, but it's probably OK, is that the racks aren't exactly what I'd call "sturdy". Can they support a whole 12-15 pound turkey? Probably, but I think they will be bending a little bit with that much weight on a single shelf. Another "artifact" of being designed to be able to sell at a fairly affordable low price rather than at a much higher price that permits sturdier racks, etc. UPDATE-1 year and 1 1/2 months after purchase, the plastic top/cover over the oval shaped controls (membrane-type keypad) has detached from the control panel exposing the electronics under the plastic cover to weather. That will eventually ruin the control panel on the unit to fail completely. Fortunately, this unit comes with a remote control so all I need to do is put some weatherproof tape over the membrane control panel on the top-front corner of the grill to keep the electronics from getting wet. The unit is located 30 miles east of San Francisco. Coldest winter temp about 28 degrees (overnight), hottest summer temp about 104. Never left in the sun. Never exposed to rain (no snow here). Always under patio roof (high quality shingle roof). But STILL, it only took 13 1/2 months for the membrane on the control panel to detach. Originally rated this product 4 stars. Downgraded 1 star (to 3 stars) because of poor quality/durability of the control panel.

Turns Off Randomly 2 years in! Was Nice While it Lasted...
October 28, 2017
I purchased this item 2 years ago. It had worked exceptional up until today... Turned off on its own randomly before it even reached the set temperature, TWICE!I have used this smoker probably a total of 15 times within these last two years, I ALWAYS keep it covered and it's also under my covered deck. I would have really expected this to last a lot longer considering how well I take care of the item.
Controller went to high temperature
January 27, 2017
I have had this for four years and two months, worked very well. I found that the stainless steel drip pan was a poor quality stainless, it developed a rust hole in it within six months. To me that wasn't a big deal. It worked very well for another three and half years. On thanksgiving it was exactly four wears old I was smoking a turkey. I checked on it a few times and after about an hour into smoking I noticed the temperature went way over what I had set it. I also found that I could not turn it off or reset it, I opened the door and the turkey was burned up on the outer part.I found out the part that went out is in the bottom on the smoker and is not replaceable. This is a shame, mechanically it's well built but I can't believe they put the hart of the thing in the bottom and filled it with glue so it can't be replaced.
Because the product is fine if you put it in a completely enclosed area ...
August 29, 2016
This is the second of their products I've owned, and they all share the same problem. Their electronics just are not made for being outside. The rubber cover the use over the buttons will shrink and in the first weather simply detach and blow away. A cover just slows the eventual failure. Heat shrinks it, I don't store my grills in an A/C space.Considering this is supposed to be the product for "lazy smokers" (I gladly admit I wanted a buy, use, and forget product) it's just not worth the trouble. I'm now looking at the much simpler products that use fifty year old thermostat technology and you can buy a probe to go with it.With today's smartphones why bother with something that takes five steps to pairs on wifi and forgets every third use. Why two stars instead of one? Because the product is fine if you put it in a completely enclosed area with screened wind walls. But if you are in that world you're not buying something like this to begin with, and you still get the same benefit just setting your smartphone timer to remind you when to change the chips."Siri set timer to 45 minutes". Done.Replacement policy is you go outside and write down serial numbers, call in to some very young men, and they waste the next thirty minutes of your time explaining why you cannot just order a replacement electronic monitor. This is the most insulting part. The monitor is completed bolted on, you connect the sensor threw a standard hole in the wall. Making me call a teenager when I just wanted a replacement unit is absurd, and don't pretend your bolt-on unit is unique from month to month. The one on my 40" was exactly the same shape and fit as the same device on my 30" I bought years ago.Won't get fooled again. So much for buying American. By the way, not manufactured in America.
Can't get wet? Really?
December 8, 2015
It's pretty crazy that a device that needs to be used outdoors tells you that it can't get wet! You can buy a custom cover for it, but after a local shower I found water on top of the smoker under the cover! The nicest thing about the smoker is the insulation, so I can cook in chilly weather. The insulation has a downside though; once up to temperature the heating element doesn't run much. The element only generates smoke from wood chips when it's running for reasonable periods.I also like the thermostatic control. On the other hand, it's real work to clean this thing. Overall, my old Brinkman cylinder smoker worked just as well.
Several issues, support was not helpful.
September 23, 2015
First of let me say that say that when it works its great. With that said, I did contact masterbuilt about 40ish days after i received the item. The smoker was two major flaws. One the built in temperature sensor is completely wrong (which is what I contacted masterbuilt regarding). When I set the Smoker at 220, my first smoke was done very quickly (over cooked) I then went out and purchased a Maverick ET-733 and also used my buddies to ensure the heat readings on both were accurate. At 220 on the MES my and my buddies ET-733 where at 256 and 259 respectively. Way to hot for smoking low and slow. The second major issue that I have is my unit powers on and off at times (usually right when I plug it in), I store it in my attached garage out of the weather, with a cover (though I don't need the cover), I have had it turn off in the middle of two smokes, luckily there were both small cuts of meat/appetizers and I was able to unplug and plug it back in. Like I said I have most issues when I first plug it in. It flickers on and off and then I have to unplug it usually 2-3 times and its good after that. I've had it less than a year and I am not 100% happy at all, hopefully I just had a defective unit, but the customer support rep I spoke to was not very helpful either. When it totally breaks and im sure it will I dont know if I will purchase another Masterbuilt, even though it has pretty solid reviews I would like to stay away from a second unit with issues.
not what i expected. Can someone tell em how to get my remote to work
December 8, 2014
I got this on black friday and it was less than 200 bucks. I expected something of higher quality. The interior welds are all burnt through, meaning they didn't move the welder quick enough so when they tap welded it they burnt the middle of the weld out. Also the remote doesn't work and i've called customer service probably 25 times in the past week and it is always busy. It does smoke meat as expected. I just wish the GD remote worked and the welds inside didn't look like crap. No I couldn't build a better smoker cheaper but as something mass produced i expected a little more quality and something built to last for ever.... If i had to pay full price i would have returned it.

Smoker works fine so far
January 27, 2016
First one came with a major, unstable dent in the back. Would not let the racks close in or out. Amazon took it back and another one was received. It too had a dent but this time on the front side. It allowed for everything to work so ended up keeping it. Smoker works fine so far, Amazon was amazing in their customer relations...
Would not buy again

This smoker has worked great so far.Update the electronics has completely come off the smoker when i took the cover off to use it. Now you have to hold the plastic faceplate cover on to use it. The built in thermometer has never worked either.
What a waste of money
October 10, 2015
I believe a note should be added to the description "DOES NOT HEAT UP WHEN USING AN OUTDOOR EXTENSION CORD!!!!!!!" After 2 hours of labor putting it together, everything lit up but there was NO HEAT after 2 hours! What a waste of money!!!!!!!!!! I have another masterbuilt smoker and have no problems using the extension cord.

Warning! It trips the GFI meaning there's a major problem!
November 11, 2017
Had this for almost 17 months and it started tripping the GFI, that we didn't catch until we lost a whole freezer full of food!!! Today it quit working while smoking shrimp. Save yourself money and not buy this POS!
No warranty support, and you will need it.

The top digital panel melted for no apparent reason, attempts to be covered under warranty in less than 6 months have been promised to be fulfilled several times, but no programmer has arrived. They have assured me each time I called that one will arrive shortly. I suspect they are waiting out the 1 year mark.
Purchased in January 2016 and had some really good results with this smoker
September 17, 2017
Purchased in January 2016 and had some really good results with this smoker. Since then, the smoker will trip my GFCI breaker every time the heating element kicks back on to maintain temperature. Very dissapointed - seems to be a common issue after researching online.

So VERY disappointed. Actually Only worked for one hour and 15 minutes . I removed it from the box followed the directions for installation, set the time and the temperature added wood chips to season the machine and just after an hour is shut down And it never turn back on. Followed all the troubleshooting guide lines in the installation manual with no success. So I sent a return request to Amazon and never heard back from them. So I'm not sure what to do? Am I stuck with this defective smoker? I have had 2 master built smokers prior to this one with no problems. Should I be out over $350 for this brand new purchase? I love amazon and I'm a loyal customer for many years but I'm conflicted about what this..
BAD PRODUCT

I am a very satisfied Amazon shopper and use them a lot. I have never returned anything until now. The Masterbuilt smoker is to be avoided. The smoking element does not produce consistent smoke, it trips our breakers with every use, it is obviously not well made. After getting my unit and trying to use it per the instructions, I read online reviews outside Amazon and discovered the issues I am encountering are being reported hundreds of times. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. This one is a no brainer. This is a review of the product, not Amazon. Amazon refunded my money and I am very happy with their service.
I would not recommend this smoker or any Masterbuilt to anyone
November 16, 2016
Just over a year and my heating element goes out right when I needed to smoke some ribs for tomorrow. I also know two others who have bought Masterbuilt and the element went out as soon as they turned it on, luckly theirs was still under warranty. I would not recommend this smoker or any Masterbuilt to anyone. The elements do not hold up. I have only used this smoker to smoke 5 times since I have bough it.

Electrical problem and only 90 day warranty
March 26, 2016
We bought the smoker at the end of October 2015. We used it every Saturday, so only once per week and it was cleaned and covered the whole time it was not in use. The smoker got up to temperature and was very easy to use. Taste was not the same as wood or charcoal, but ease of use and almost foolproof temp control made up for it. Then around December 2015 the meat thermometer stopped working. I was annoyed, but by then I was able to time the meat well enough that it was not that important. At the start of March 2016 (5 months from purchase) the whole electrical control system went. The smoker is now unusable. Came back to Amazon to get order receipt and look at the warranty and see that they only provide a 90 day warranty. Not impressive for the money.
Not what you expected..
November 13, 2015
It doesn't produce good smoke. I tried to follow the direction. Then i tried to add wood chips a little bit offen still it takes forever to smoke but no good result. I wish i can return this but it's beyond policy allowed. I should have given up for the first 2 tries and returned it.
Maybe others have had good experience with their Madterbuilt smoker but not I
September 7, 2015
Maybe others have had good experience with their Madterbuilt smoker but not I. It's worked as should less than than half the time I have used, too inconsistent to plan important/expensive dinners with.Labor Day 2015: put in a 5lb pork shoulder at 8:00am, the pork at room temp. Took out at @ 6:30pm, never once opened the door. I added wood chips at 8:00am, noon, & 2:30pm. It was 80 degrees outside & sunny, don't think the weather was an issue here. From my understanding most barbecue pros smoke at 225 degrees for 10-12 hours for success. I smoked in this Masterbuilt for 10.5 hours at 240 degrees and the meat still needed a knife, very dissapointing! Maybe it's my unit specifically but it's worked right less than half the time, I do the exact same thing in my oven and my ribs and pork roast are been perfect every time. It's not so much the money spent on the wasted meat, it's the ruined family dinners (this is the 2nd holiday dinner in 2015). Help me find what I've done wrong!I'll be using my oven from now on, call me if you want a great deal on a lightly used Masterbuilt ($200 in meat wasted so far). If there's a flaw in my technique I'm not sure where, any suggestions? My buddy has an inexpensive Charbroil unit he paid $150 approx 4 years ago, his rocks and makes some killer meat. Our smoking methods don't differ. You want a straight up review from a consumer/user here it tis.... Hope Masterbuilt replies to my emails sent, we'll see and I will review again if they don't. For now, I'd keep looking if I were you.....
