on my 3rd one, reduces risk of carpal tunnel from the small movements of the mouse. The weight of a mouse cord can be harmful, and even a cordless mouse can hurt over time. this "cat" as my family calls it never hurts, because you only move the ball. one disadvantage - short 1 button, for the auto scroll. I program the small far right button for that function, and its great. I never sit far enough away from my screen that the cord becomes an issue, and its a long cord. I avoid all other mice. best designed trackball. Ball is very smooth, unlike others I have tried.

My family hates this thing but I love it. I have Fibro and pain in my hands a lot. This makes it very easy to use the computer for long hours. I thin there was a small adjustment time since it is used differently than your average mouse is. Although I can see if they are find with their go to mouse and see no change other than a frustration adaption then I might hate it too lol. I wish I found this sooner. I also love that I can use this trackball in a tight space since no movement is needed like that of a mouse. No tangled up cords or not enough cord to give problems no more. If the ball on the trackball seems to not flow as smooth as normal you just pop it out and usually there is a few micro amounts of lint or dust that got in there which stick on a numb that you just brush your finger on to take care of problem...then pop the ball back in. Love this and its been a big game changer for me. Also it hurts to curl my hand so this allows my hand to remain more open when using over a mouse- you just rest your hand on it and use your pointer finger to move the ball. your thumb is already rested on the side button and same on other finger on the other side. If you have pain in hands I would highly recommend.

I am a right handed but for some crazy reason I couldn't use it with my right hand. I had the cursor all over the screen which irritated me and I had put it away for a week. Then, I decided to give it another try with my left hand and.....it works for me!! I have much better control it feels weird to know I am using my left hand. I am happy with my purchase now.

I've used Logitech accessories for quite some time and I'm always satisfied. My old trackball mouse worked fine, but it was quite old and eventually the software was no longer compatible with my current operating system, thus I was finally forced to buy a new mouse. At about $20 I think this mouse is great value. At first the ball seemed a little stiff, but I cleaned out the well and wiped the ball with a lint free cloth and after rolling the ball around a bit it now moves freely. I have a generic mini trackball for use with my laptop, but it's quirky so I decided to purchase another trackball mouse and I'm thrilled to find this Logitech mouse at a reasonable price. I like the size as I feel it supports my hand and wrist and I've had hand/wrist problems from years of using a regular mouse at work. I've seen some reviewers complain about scrolling down webpages and the lack of a wheel. These reviewers probably aren't used to using a trackball. I don't find I have a problem scrolling. Perhaps some also don't realize they can program or assign the small side buttons for scrolling and other functions and it's simply a matter of opening the software for the mouse and choosing an option. You can even reverse the functions of the main right and left buttons which I am sure is helpful for left handers. All in all I think this is a great value and I'm very happy I purchased this mouse.

My mom works on a computer, and when she needed ergonomic desk products, her company gave her this mouse. She loved it so much she wanted me to buy it for our home computer, and it seems to really help her hands from getting sore. I'll admit it is a bit strange to use at first, but it does have its advantages. I like that you can move around the screen without moving your whole arm, great for someone with shoulder problems like me. The one thing I desperately miss is the SCROLL WHEEL! It is very tedious to try and scroll using the keyboard when you are used to (read: spoiled by) a scroll wheel. there is a way to scroll by clicking and then moving the cursor, but I haven't been able to master it, and it tends to throw me around the page. Still using a regular mouse for my computer, but in my mind its a toss up as to which is better.

I never thought there would be a day where I would resort to an "old man" trackball style mouse. I got this because A. I was so tired of wires and B. I have carpal tunnel to some degree so the repetitive moving of a normal mouse would kill my wrist and forearms and C. Moving my wrist around so much on my desk always made my wrist red and painful. They send you regular batteries with this and according to the software I had about 500 days of use left before I needed to change them, what a breath of fresh air from those wireless devices that you have to change every few weeks or a month! I absolutely love this device and I must say that it has definitely made me reconsider the "old man" theory of using a trackball mouse. They are much more comfortable to use and much more effortless. Make the change today! From all of my research this appears to be the best wireless one available on the market today.

This model/design has withstood the test of time.
I still have one of the original, logitech thumb trackball corded model with the red ball. Works great.

It's been around forever and is ergonomic, durable - tough as nails, I have dropped mine a few dozen times and it still works like a champ.
I have about 4 or 5 of these floating around my home and office. The logitech unifying software is great - makes pairing easy.
The range is pretty good, I can control my laptop connected to my TV about 10 ft. away. When the battery is low or there is interference this tends to drop out, however. It's too bad they are not rechargeable - but the single AA battery lasts a REALLY long time.

By far the BEST advantage of this product - and really any trackball - is not needing a motion surface.
This is great for bringing along with your laptop and not getting stuck with the dreaded built-in trackpad; and you won't have to worry about a mouse pad or surface area for a traditional mouse.

The Good:
I grew up on the trackman stationary mouse concept since roughly two decades ago. Despite my attachment to wired peripheral devices, I have been very pleased with this iteration of the "thumb-ball" mouse. This is my gaming mouse and my everything mouse. The range was useable in the back of a 300 person classroom as a substitute clicker for a powerpoint presentation. With five separate buttons it fulfills all of my needs. I have stacked other wireless peripherals with little issue. One non-rechargeable Duracell AA battery lasts for enough months that I can't remember the last time I changed it.

The not as good:
Even at $27, this is a relatively expensive piece of equipment (could buy wireless K/M combo for that price). For new customers, the big advantage of this mouse is you can use it on your leg without issue if need be (like at an airport). However, the mouse is size-able and there is a learning curve for those who didn't grow up with it. If others want to use your desktop, this mouse can be a bit awkward...and for that reason if you gotta keep a spare "normal" mouse why would you buy this guy in the first place. Plus, unlike the modern laser/optical mice, you will need to take a few seconds to clean the trackball every now and then. Of the three Trackballs I own, only one of them is partially functional due to the left mouse button and some erratic pairing behavior. The three-year warranty allowed for a free replacement with the least headache of any computer peripheral company.

Verdict:
The "thumb-ball mice" will always have a place in my wallet. I'm very glad that this wireless version is just as rugged and user-friendly as I remember. Furthermore, the wireless capability has actually increased its functionality in my life and extended it to the modern age, where tangled wires have become less of a tolerable occurrence. Hopefully the clientele, old and new, will keep this technology alive for years to come.

I've been a trackball user since the days before MP3s. This is my current favorite model. Affordable, reliable, cordless, and nicely shaped. I was using it so much that my arm started hurting until I realized I was using it at the wrong angle. I do 3d printing and designed a stand to make it even better and more ergonomic. I would highly recommend this product especially with a padded rest and angled stand like the one I made. You can find my stand at Thingiverse. [...] and make it yourself if you have a 3d printer. With or without the stand, this trackball is a great value.

There are enough reviews here espousing the greatness of the M570 from Logitech, so I'm just going to briefly describe my experience.

I've had mine since 2010 and have been using it every day at work. I've found that, for productivity, it beats a mouse hands down. Over the years I have had absolutely no issues with this wireless trackball and it continues to perform flawlessly. The ball tracks smoothly and evenly. But as others have mentioned, you do have to give it a cleaning every month or so as the bearings tend to trap and accumulate gunk over time. The ball can also attract and have stuck to it the errant hair strand or lint glob that will cause the movement to feel gritty or stick and skip. It is easy to clean though. Pop out the ball, give the bearing a good wiping with a microfibre cloth (or other lint free cloth) and likewise with the ball, pop the ball back in and you're golden. I've probably changed the battery twice. The size is just about right for my hand (about 8.5 inches around at the knucles) and the contours felt natural from day one with my fingers aligning right in the groves, over the buttons, and my thumb placed just right on the ball.

I've ordered a second M570 to use with my tablet PC (MSI WindPad 110W). I'm currently using a Kingston Orbit. I tried the Orbit because it was smaller than the M570 (not by much though ... those product pictures sure are deceptive). But, I just cannot get used to the position of the trackball on the Orbit. I guess I'm a thumb guy and not a finger trackballer!

2017/03/17: Logitech, if you're reading any of this at all, please consider a G version of this! If the G900 Chaos can be wireless, then we can have a G version trackball. No need to deviate too much from the design, but a free-scrolling middle button, some more programmable buttons, a gaming sensor, a spiffy RGB LED layout to sync with the rest of the G stuff, even a removable cord for charging ... I'd go for that!

I'd give this 5 stars if Logitech would support use with Linux on it's own website. Instead, you have to support it yourself, even though, with a little tweaking of your X server, it works perfectly well with Linux.

To me, this is the most comfortable type of trackball, and the only one that doesn't cause me a lot of muscular pain in my hand after long hours of use. A day with a regular mouse would cause painful cramping for me. This trackball never does.

At first I was a bit leery and missed the scroll wheel on the mouse. Loaded some advanced programs but none worked well for scrolling. Took about a week to use keyboard scroll keys and holding the left key and rolling the ball to scroll to get used to it. Now I like it the ball moves smoothly and lightly and the buttons need a light touch. It also reduces wrist movement and helps with hand pain. I like this configuration as opposed to side mounted ball. The price is good too. Better scrolling would get it 5 stars , but can be worked around.

An almost-perfect trackball, marred by the lack of a scroll-wheel, which should be located just below the left button and operated with your thumb. I'm currently playing around with AutoHotKey scripts to emulate one as the software people have previously recommended for this doesn't appear to actually work in Windows 7.

I had to get use to the mouse remaining still and rolling the ball around, easy enough. What I don't like is not being able to scroll up or down a page. I have to move the mouse all the way over to the right of the screen and grab that pain slider. S, for me, it hasn't helped with my OA or carpal tunnel.
It's also harder playing my Mahjong games. It does work well and if you don't have all the pain and lack of mobility then this would be perfect for you.
I think I'll look for a regular corded mouse - which are getting hard to find.

Upon taking out of the box, you do have to thoroughly wipe the ball (I even blew on it) in order to get maximum smoothness. Then install the software and/or set the pointer speed setting to maximum, with pointer acceleration at maximum as well if you have a big screen (I have a 24" LCD) and want to fly around much faster.

The lack of a scroll wheel is very unfortunate and the only reason I'm taking away one star, but with the Logitech software (I have a Windows 7 machine) the Universal Scroll feature isn't a bad substitute, especially if you are willing to simply use the Page Up/Down buttons on your keyboard more often to supplement it.

Overall, I like no longer having to move my whole forearm around like I do with a normal mouse. The form factor of this mouse isn't the most attractive but it's not horrible either. Will update in a few weeks/months if my experience with this thing changes...hoping that it won't require too frequent cleaning of the actual ball, but that's universal to all trackball systems...you don't want to use it while eating say, potato chips...but then again you wouldn't want to get your keyboard keys dirty either, right?

The lazy part of me is really beginning to enjoy this trackball mouse. Never in my life have I every considered getting a trackball mouse. Be it as it may, the former Logitech M505 isn't left clicking as well as it used to; therefore, the trackball is a much needed replacement. Not moving my hand back and forth as well as speeding onto my secondary monitor has been a Godsend.After a single week of using it for the first time in my life, I am still adjusting to minute movements over URL links (small fonts..). My first use was for 8 hours without going back to my old mouse. I do wish the mouse was larger since my nearly 6' height also yields larger than average hands..Another small annoyance is that the ball seems to stick ever-so-slightly when it it sits for a while. Since keyboard shortcuts are primarily used, the trackball mouse tends to sit idle for most of the time; therefore, it sticks nearly every time I reach for the mouse again.

I have been using a Logitech trackball of this shape for years, and it is excellent compared with a mouse. The battery life is excellent and I can't even remember when I replaced it last. The three points on which the ball rests become dirty regularly, but are easily cleaned by removing the ball. The left mouse button on mine has probably worn out, and now double-clicks when I click it once, or sometimes doesn't click at all. This is why I'm here on Amazon looking at getting another, and only giving 4 stars. I was hoping to find a newer model, but this will have to do.

Warranty is for 3 years, and I don't know if I'm covered. The price here is much less than listed on the Logitech site, so not a big deal to pay for a new one. I know Logitech tests their products rigorously, but I doubt it will last too much longer than 5 years. The buttons are clearly the only part that is subject to wear and only one needs to fail requiring a replacement. I hope next time I need one there is an improved version with new button design.

Good pointer device. I really like the wireless capability, allowing you to place it anywhere that's best suited for your workspace which is a real plus when working in a small space and raking a mouse around a desktop is not practical. I also like the natural position of the hand when using it. Battery life is very good when I remember to turn it off before I leave the office for the day/weekend. The battery indicating light on the top will let you know when the battery strength is getting low, alerting you to the fact you need to change it. The range of the trackball is good but I haven't tested it to find the limit. It works very well in the immediate vicinity of my laptop. The only area I would like to see changed is the ability to remove and clean the thumb ball. It feels, from time to time, the rolling elements might be getting dirty and would benefit from cleaning but there's no easy or good way to get to that area. Earlier corded models had a quarter turn bezel that kept the ball in place but could be removed for cleaning. I wish they still had that feature.

So far, so good. This was my first time working with a trackball and I didn't know if I would like it. I have been experiencing some pain in my wrist from the usage of mice while working and wanted a mouse that I didn't need to move about. This does the job quite well. I enjoy the size of it and I can rest my entire palm on it and work without worrying about accidentally moving the cursor across the screen when I shuffle about in my chair. It is very stable and doesn't wake my computer when my children bump up against my desk - something that used to happen all the time at my home office. It fits my hand and I took to the trackball concept very quickly. It took about 2 minutes to get used to it and I believe I'm hooked! I placed it on my old mouse pad and that has made using it easier since my wrist would otherwise be resting on the bare desk - which isn't terrible for short periods of work but 8 hours on a piece of solid wood and it starts to feel uncomfortable. I took one star away because the left click button seems to need an extra bit of push to maintain drag and drop operations. I noticed that if I try to quickly perform the motion the button releases mid swing and it has caused me to accidentally place files in the wrong directories when moving them. Other than that, a great product so far and I will be picking another one for the work office.

It's a good option for people with carpal tunnel such as myself and looking for a more ergonomic option. If it had a better angle out-of-the-box I'd give it 5 stars, however with a little propping it can be perfect, see below. Tips:1. To make it 10x more ergonomic, place a wedge with a 30 degree incline under it to make it the most natural wrist angle and keep you from resting any weight on the nerves in your wrist. Experiment with different angles to find the best for you personally. I trimmed a chunk of stiff foam from some laptop packaging material, see the attached photos. This has been a HUGE benefit for my wrists and in combination with other ergonomic tweaks to my setup and regular stretching and soft tissue work has left me pain-free for some time now.2. You'll need to clean the dust and lint from the rollers and optical sensor under the ball once a week, it takes seconds but will keep the trackball nice and responsive.

Original Trackman died after 5 years of service. Decided to stay with the same type and reordered one in Jan 2017. It is now June 2017 and the "new" mouse has died. Very disappointed that the replacement barely lasted six months. Computer recognizes the mouse, but there is no response when the ball is moved. Can only assume the laser has gone out. Will have to buy another mouse. Will not be a Logitech model next time. In the meantime, I will continue to use a cheap laptop mouse I had on hand.

I received this mouse today and am returning it today as well. It's just not working for me. The upper buttons were unresponsive to quick clicks, and the symmetric design made my hand hurt after just a few minutes of using it. I've never felt anything like that using a conventional mouse for hours on end. Maybe I would've gotten used to it, but I wasn't going to take that risk. The lack of a scroll wheel or ring is really the deal breaker though. I was assured that there was software from Logitech I could use to make scrolling work, but universal scroll from SetPoint is a big lie. I could only get it to work in my browser and pdf viewer (not on Steam, not in games), and the control for it was still pretty clunky there. I'm going to try the M570 because of the scroll wheel and more ergonomic shape, but maybe a trackball just isn't for me.

I agree with all the positive things said about this device in other reviews, But I found it very difficult to obtain the necessary software to program the buttons. It had very little useability right out of the box, without going online to find the software to program it, which I was not even able to find, though others have seemed t find OK.

For my money, There's a mujch better alternative.

I much prefer another Logitech model, also sold by Amazon for about $3 more: Logitech M570 Wireless Trackball, Computer Wireless Mouse, Long Range Wireless Mouse.

It's much less complicated to use. Does not require additional programming. Little scroll forward/back lever, between left button and the ball is simple and intuitive.

I use one with my desktop and take another one with me with my laptop, wherever I go.

While it is configured for the right hand, I am left handed but also somewhat ambidextrous, so it works fine for me.

And as a cordless device you have one less cord cluttering up your work surface. Description below from Amazon says everything else that I would.

I thought I could get used to the absence of a scroll wheel but could not on this device. In order to scroll, you either have to press one of the little buttons, which are too small to easily press every time you want to scroll, or you have to hold the left mouse button down while moving the trackball. Using the first method (pressing the little button to change the state of the trackball from pointer to scroll) works but has 2 drawbacks: the trackball is hard to control to prevent unwanted side-to-side scrolling and the scrolling in the up direction is very slow. Using the other method of holding the left mouse button while moving the trackball doesn't have good usability on this device, either. I ended up buying the Kensington Expert Mouse (oddly named since it's a trackball, not a mouse) and am much happier with that, though it has a couple of minor drawbacks. That Expert Mouse is twice as expensive as the Logitech but IMO is 4 times better in spite of the Kensington's minor shortcomings.

I've had this product for almost 2 months and have used it extensively.

If you're a gamer, this item probably won't do it for you, even after you've gotten used to it. I bought this to reduce the risk of rsi. But if you game with this and use it constantly, you may end up with an injury to your index finger. Side to side cursor movements? No problem. The fingers have a limited range of motion side to side, but it isn't exactly a natural movement. It's not so bad in moderation. The real problem is up and down cursor movement. With constant co-contraction in the index finger from moving the ball up and down, over time the potential for injury is quite high. I think fine motions are easier with this than with a mouse, but for gaming in particular, large movements of the cursor are necessary. That's where this product fails, in my opinion. If it weren't for the fact that the 3 tiny plastic ball bearings get residue built up on them, movement with this might be a little easier and consistent. There will always be some transference of matter from your finger to the ball, and that matter will accumulate on these ball bearings. It will change the distance a flick of the finger moves the ball (and subsequently the cursor) and it can make the cursor move in a slightly erratic fashion. Cleaning isn't really a big deal at all, but it must be done constantly. Perhaps every couple of days.

In my opinion, this product is worth the money for general purpose and applications which require fine movements. It is not so hot for applications that require constant sweeping movements across the screen (up and down especially) and apps that regularly make use of the scroll wheel. If you are considering this product due to health reasons such as rsi, remember that using a mouse does not have to be injurious. Proper posture, support, and height can go a long way to changing muscle use for the better.

I purchased this mouse because of the reviews. I work in IT as a programmer and have issues with carpal tunnel syndrome due to repetitive motion and thought this would be a great help for that. However, I am returning the mouse because it just doesn't allow for fine detail movement using your thumb on the trackball. The scroll wheel and mouse buttons are fine. The feel is good under your palm, but it is very awkward to scroll with your thumb and try to hold down the buttons to capture the edges of screens and drag and drop etc. Maybe my thumb dexterity just isn't fine tuned enough but it's just not functional enough to be fast and I need to be fast in my job. I did download the management software from Logitech for the scroll ball mouse setup and tried several different settings but still not clean enough to be my everyday use for work mouse.

I have always liked the Logitech trackball and I like this one as well. It's basically the same as the T-BB18 trackball with some extras. The reason I only give it 3 stars is the connection utilities - in a word they suck! Oh, it eventually connects itself but it's a mystery to me whether the software that you download from Logitech has anything to do with it or not.The utility tells you it does not see any device and then, magically, it starts working even though the software still says it can't find a device.Pathetic! As long as the PC has been around you would think these companies could get it right at least once but it appears that users are doomed to be tortured for some years to come.

The quality and performance of the mouse is fine but the concept is a bit baffling. I bought it impulsively, based on the incredible reviews, thinking it must be great if that many people love it. However even after investing a good amount of time to try to acclimate to this, I find it infinitely more difficult to use than a normal mouse. It requires quite intense focus and fine motor skills to operate the track ball with your thumb - I find it tiring to use for that reason. Unless you have physical disabilities that make a normal mouse difficult or impossible to use, I can not see any value in this. I gave it 3 stars because I can't knock the product itself, just the concept, which still has value to people with disabilities.

I have a great deal of difficulty keeping this one connected to the Universal adapter, which is a problem I've never had with Logitech devices. I ordered a second one, thinking that perhaps the first was defective, and have had the same problem with both. If it doesn't have a direct line of sight to the universal adapter, or there is pretty much anything (like a coffee cup) between them, it works for awhile and then randomly stops until you pick it up and let it connect again. I will rearrange my desk to accommodate, but I've NEVER had to do that with any other Logitech device, and I use the brand almost exclusively. That means I also have multiple adapters available...I tried swapping them out, but it didn't make a difference, so it's not the adapter. I have the same problem at the office, with a different environment, different placement and a different model of keyboard sharing the connection, so it's not interference from other devices. The ONLY commonality is that the trackball sits lower than the dock and below the desktop, as it should. As soon as I put it up on the desktop it works fine. (My chiropractor loves this solution.). Both keyboards sit in the same position and don't have that problem, nor do other Logitech mice I own. It's THIS model.

I love the shape and ergonomic. It really helps with the hands when you work in an office all day. However, mine made it about one year then started acting up. I'd temporarily lose connection then have to shut it off and turn it on multiple times to reconnect. It was a real pain in the neck but I thought it was the computer for a while until I got a new computer. This happened more frequently and the batteries had shorter life spans. Then recently it died around 2 years. I may have just had a bad apple. My coworker has one that feels a little better and more refined then the one I had.i may try to get another one since I don't feel like dealing with a wired mouse.

It's been a full month now and I am not happy at all. I've used Logitech products for literally years with nary an issue until now. I've done a lot of online research and tried numerous remedies all without success. What's the issue? The scroll speed throttles back to a crawl after switching tabs or performing other tasks. Interestingly I found similar complaints with various mice going back to 2005! This is also my first wireless. My old Logitech wired Marble mouse never exhibited this issue. So regrettably this is being thrown in a drawer as having to constantly reset the scroll function is something I flat am unwilling to put up with. Going back to a gaming mouse. FWIW my best hand device experience was with the fabeled Microsoft Trackball Explorer that served me well for over a decade. Like many others I still wish it were readily available.Addendum: I'm using Win 7 Home Premium - 64 bit SP1

For years I'd owned a Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman, and was hoping to find a replacement. As I expect with all Logitech products, the build quality is excellent, but the lack of a scroll wheel prompted me to buy a competitor product costing more than twice the price to have that feature. The features that allow you to scroll, "Universal Scroll" and "AutoScroll" are poor substitutes, provided they even work on your computer.

Pros:

- Easy to customize the functions of the four buttons w/ Logitech's SetPoint software
- Fairly smooth rolling action
- Mostly comfortable for extended use
- Logitech comes though when it comes to their long warranties
- Most classic and affordable trackball on the market

Cons:

- Lacks a reasonable scroll feature. Scroll feature is clunky and max scroll speed is a crawl even at max sensitivity.
- Rolling action is not very smooth at slow roll speeds
- Secondary buttons are uncomfortable to use often. This is especially an issue since one of them activates the scroll feature

The product is 4 stars but I'm leaving two stars for the following reason: A few months after purchasing, I experienced transient jitter effects making the device basically unusable. More than a year after purchasing, Logitech customer service helped me determine it was definitely a hardware problem with the mouse. They sent me a replacement swiftly and I got to keep the broken one too. However, it has been less than a month and the right hand secondary button has failed. I can only speculate that Logitech fulfilled my warranty with a refurbished unit. Take this w/ a grain of salt, as it may just be an unlucky coincidence.

This trackball feels fine in the hand, but the ball itself is far less accurate than I was used to with the sadly now unavailable Logitech Trackman Cordless Optical Mouse (T-RB22) which I loved. It's really too bad that Logitech isn't offering a replacement for the T-RB22 with a finger, rather than thumb, controlled ball.

With this model, I was unable to follow a straight line up, and even less able to make a smooth diagonal line with this trackball. (A strong, strong drift, maybe?) Still, I might have kept it to see if accuracy and smoothness improved over time, but there is no scroll wheel on this mouse. And while there is a programmable scroll function, but it only works in web browsers, not in word processing programs, spreadsheets, or mail programs like Outlook or Lotus Notes. The lack of a scroll function outside of web browsers makes this mouse a no-go for me.

I'm going to check out the Keningston Orbital Trackball with Scroll Ring and Keningston Expert Mouse Optical Trackball to see if one of them will replace my old Logitech trackball.

Once upon a time, I was a user of the Logitech Trackman FX trackball. I used one on several of my work and home machines for some serious heavy-lifting graphics, 3D, and CAD work (I'm an architect). Over the years, it became obsolete and eventually stored away in a drawer. Years later, after a mouse failure, I decided to try the trackball. The FX still won't work (no drivers or Mac support), so I thought the model that's the subject of this review would fill the need. Sadly, it does not. The ergonomics are just wrong. The ball is ok where it is, but the buttons are badly located. They should be more near the front below the ball where they can be reached with the fingertips and not under the sides of the palm. To reach the small secondary buttons requires moving your hand off of the ball. This is just not how a good trackball should work. From the reviews, many people clearly love this trackball and that's great. I tried to give it a fair chance, knowing my previous fondness for trackballs, but this is not the one. I have returned it and hope to see something better (like a reissue of the FX). Until then, sad to say, it's back to a mouse.

I own the previous version and so DID my son. The previous model (sadly no longer available) was designed for right-handers only and had a perfectly-placed dedicated scroll wheel. My son's trackball eventually broke, and I had to replace it, finding that 'our' model is discontinued and this one is Logitech's new version. I understand why Logitech might feel it had to make an ambidextrous trackball, but losing the scroll wheel is unforgivable. There is a way to configure it so you can click the trackball into "scroll-wheel" mode when needed, but frankly that option is hell on workflow. I also don't think this ambidextrous model is well designed ergonomically. Doesn't fit the hand well. I am looking for a way to get rid of this thing and find something closer to the ideal of the older version.

I bought this mouse to solve the problem I had with my bedroom HTPC and watching TV or surfing the web having to drag a optical mouse over my sheets. Well, I never got used to this ball mouse, I hate using it, and it takes me forever to complete simple tasks, on top of that, it is to big, and has pretty bad ergonomics, you place your hand over it, and have to be guessing which button is the right hand click and which one is the left. I didn't return it cause I was a lil lazy to do the whole repacking, but definitely it is now another unused item filling up my drawers.

It worked fine for a few months, good response, nice weight and feel.The problem I have now is after just a few months the USB connector in my computer just randomly stops detecting it. I have tried the mouse in two different computer in a total of 6 different USB ports. It will work for awhile then randomly just drop the connection. The longer I use the mouse the more and more it just drops out detection and gets harder for me to find a connection. I am going to have to buy a new wireless mouse now and put this one in the trash.Of course i also searched the web for solutions but wasn't able to get anything to work and also tried replacing the batter.

I've had this mouse for just under a year (11.5 months) and it was amazing in the beginning. My wrist stopped hurting. I was able to work longer and be more productive. The trackball took some getting used to, but once I did, I no longer had to even think about it.ONE YEAR LATER: It still looks brand new. No wear and tear, no scratches or fading. However, the trackball has stopped tracking. Okay, well, not exactly. I have to use my thumb and pointer finger to move it. It will track to the right as normal, but to go up, down, or to the left, I have to use 2 fingers. Using just the thumb will move the cursor a fraction of an inch with each full rotation of the trackball. The battery is brand new, so that's not the issue. Settings are fine since it moves to the right just fine. Using 2 fingers slows me way down and is creating pains up my arm after a day at work. So, I'm replacing it.If you're okay with replacing your mouse every year, then buy this one. If you're like me and expect them to last a bit longer, look for something else.

I have purchased two of these, one I use on my home computer and the other I use to control my NAS storage connected to my TV. both devices have a very hard time connecting and staying connected. I often have a problem where the mouse / roller ball will not function....the track wheel & mouse buttons still function, but the cursor will not move...this forces me to unplug & replug in the usb dongle, which usually fixes the problem. but this normally happens about once every day, so it's just an extra step and can be frustrating at time as the product is not working as seamlessly as I had hoped. besides that issue it's a very nice mouse!

UPSIDE: Amazingly easy to get used to, just takes maybe a day to re-adjust your way of thinking from a "normal" mouse and feels very natural in the hand. The main reason that I buy these is that they work unparalleled in small spaces. I use one on my home desk because I often clutter it with work or study materials, and this frees up a surprising amount of space, more than you would think, when overall the mouse itself need not move except to adjust for hand and wrist comfort. It also has the benefit of not being limited by the surface you are on, I can easily sit this on my couch next to me and connect it to my laptop, even the modern high quality laser mouse is not capable of doing this reliably on most surfaces. For that same reason I also use it for the media server and 2nd small computer that I have directly connected to my TV. The function is top quality, the reliability and quality however leave something to be desired, addressed below.DOWNSIDE: I have owned what will be 3 total of these so far. One for work, one for home, one for my girlfriend at home. For some reason these seem to have more problems than any other. I replaced my one at work finally with a traditional mouse as the trackball would act weird however the left click finally stopped working. I am about to order yet another to replace mine at home as the trackball will work fine, then almost stop moving or move erratically. I often have to clean it out and/or spin the ball at high speed to get it to re-register the movement, however this has become a daily thing now. I have probably 5 other different types of mouse from Logitech even up to and including one that is 5 years old and works fine however, those are all laser, not trackball.For some reason these trackball ones seem to show far more wear and tear than the others. I will be purchasing my 4th and final one at least from Logitech and, if that one begins to have the same issues as well I will try another manufacturer.

I was having pain at the base of my palm, just above my wrist, when using the mouse for several hours at work. I've been using the M570 for about 2 weeks and haven't had any pain. Trackball is very smooth and easy to use.(3/21/17 Update) I continue to be able to use this trackball all day without any wrist pain. You must keep the ball very clean or you will get jerky mouse pointer movements. However, popping the ball out to clean it and the rollers in the main unit is very easy.I would continue to give the product 5 stars. Logitech support is another story, this is why I'm lowing my rating to 2 stars.After about 15 months of usage, the trackball would no longer work. The battery led would just flicker red. Changing batteries did not help. Fortunately the M570 carries a 3 year warranty, but the warranty process has been extremely painful and frustrating.3/11 - M570 dies, so I go online and fill out an RMA request. Provided shipping address, PN, SN, proof of purchase and details of troubleshooting steps that I had taken.3/14 - Receive email from Logitech support saying that based on my troubleshooting, they believe the trackball is defective and will send me a replacement, but first they need shipping address, PN, SN, proof of purchase (all of which they already have). I respond within 15 minutes providing all the information (again) they requested.3/15 - Go online and see that no update has been made to my case, so I seen a message requesting an update. Never receive any update.3/16 - Call support to request an update. They say that they require a photo of the SN before they can process a replacement. Not a problem, but why didn't they ask for that originally. I provide a photo of the SN.3/17(AM) - Contact support via live chat to request an update. They've received my photo and will process a request to have a replacement sent, say that a replacement should ship today.3/17(PM) - Call support to request an update. A request for replacement has been submitted, but they are awaiting on approval from a supervisor. I ask if they know when this will happen and am told that they will ask supervisor to approve as soon as possible.3/20 - Call support to request an update. I'm told that my request for replacement is still awaiting a supervisor's approval. After about a 10 minute wait, I'm told that my request for replacement has been approved and I'm told that a replacement should ship in 2-3 days and expect it to arrive in 7-10 business days.So if all goes well, it will only take contacting Logitech support 7 times and 23 days to receive a replacement trackball.

total crap.... took me 3 days of trouble shooting to figure out the right switch was out. kept trying software updates. Will not be returning to the logitech roller ball family of products. it made me sad since this was the 2nd time for this item. They used to care....

I was looking for an ambidextrous mouse that wouldn't trigger my right hand/ulnar nerve pain, but this was not the answer. After using for work for a few days BOTH my hands were cramped and barely functional. This is probably a great mouse for some but didn't work for me. Would recommend you try this out somewhere before you buy on Amazon because they charged me 8.50 to send it back.

I got this for a Mac- it does not work effectively. First, tere is no scroll wheel, so you need to set up the "magic" buttons to enable scrolling. One problem,, if you have a Mac from anytime after 2004 the software does not work. It is impossible to find on he Logitech website. This may be nice on Windows but do not get for a Mac OS

There's nothing *wrong* with this exactly. It still works, but it just doesn't feel right for a mouse. I've been looking for another trackball mouse. The first one I had took me a week to get used to because it was wonderful. I've had this thing for months before I gave up and just went back to a normal mouse. The small back and forward buttons are too far back. My thumb gets cramped trying to use it. and some games I try to play need that button for some skills.

I tried playing World of Warcraft with it, and it was terribly, humorously awkward. It's just not meant for games. It was doable with party bars, but I couldn't react quickly to any abilities that I had to click to use.

The ball does eventually lose the smoothness as well , but you can fix it by rubbing it with parchment paper(somewhat fix). It's just extremely expensive, so I wanted to try out another one. I may just spend the money.

Uncomfortable. Basically the same principle as on the laptop, you move the pointer with one finger and click with another.
It does move faster than the regular mouse because you only move the ball instead of the whole mouse. However, clicking is much clumsier and many times slower because you need to coordinate movements of two fingers for one click. That's why people buy mini-mice for their laptops.
As for the advertised hand support - it works the opposite way. I also thought that since this mouse is large and stationery, it would reduce tension.
On the contrary, the tension is much higher, because instead of moving the regular mouse, with your hand staying in one place and using mostly one finger, your entire hand continuously hovers over the mouse- something has to move, either the mouse or your hand. After working with it for 30 minutes, my wrist is in pain (and I have wrist support).
The most ridiculous thing was the manual - written entirely in Chinese, with no English translation. Even if Logitech is Chinese company (I didn't know it when I ordered), they still should provide English manual since they are selling their product in US. It's bad enough to have all manuals in double weight and size because some Spanish speakers don't bother to learn English after coming here, it's inconsiderate for the rest, we have to search for English part in manuals every single time. Now they take English out completely. I guess we'd better learn some Chinese.

RIPOFF ALERT! This appears to be a cheap ripoff product - BUYER BEWARE. I've had at least five of the real mice from Logitech (including two wired versions) and this ain't one of 'em. After purchasing this at a great price (red alert), I threw away the packaging, figuring I knew what I was getting and didn't need it anymore.This mouse worked for about 8 days, but was not as smooth as previous versions. The mouse continually lost signal from the receiver, and then finally just died. I went through the entire troubleshooting process on Logitech's support web site. Nothing. That's when I finally realized something was wrong. Duh!Once I took a real look at this mouse, I realized the logo was not a real Logitech logo. Additionally, the receiver was slightly different from one I saved from a previous version. See my attached photos for a comparison; the actual Logitech mouse has a blue background.Now I'm stuck with a dead mouse and no original packaging, and of course, Logitech can't help because it's not their product.I'm finished buying cheap versions and am going for the Logitech MX ERGO trackball next -- the REAL one. My hands and wrists are worth the money.

I hate to give it 1 star solely because of the micro switches; but they are a poor design and cannot hold up to daily office work. This is my second M570, an indicator of how I hoped that the micro switch problems with my first M570 were a fluke; sadly, it wasn't. For my first M570, when the switch began to fail, I Googled it and learned of the problem with the micro switches. As compared to flipping the left and right micro switches (soldering involved), I elected to take the switch apart and swap the springs (not a difficult process, but it can be tedious). If you don't mind working with a soldering iron, you can swap the switches or buy replacement switches (part # D2FC-F-7N) from Amazon. At this point, it's just not worth the effort to keep swapping switches. I would probably be a bit more inclined to replace the switches if they were plug switches and I didn't have to solder a replacement switch to the board.Anyways, after a few months, the swapped switch began to fail and I purchased another M570. After about 8 to 9 months, the left micro switch began to fail again. I've swapped the springs again; but, I will not buy another Logitech mouse until the improve upon the switch design.One other item, more of an irritant than anything. The trackball has 3 sensors that track movement; these sensors build up lint rapidly. You will notice that ball movement becomes somewhat sluggish after about 5 to 7 days. So, about once a week, you will have to pop the trackball out and clean the sensors. I use a paper clip to scrape out the lint. Once you do this, good as new.

Do not waste your money. After only 4 days the forward and back buttons do not respond to commands. The buttons do press in and back but do nothing. After uninstalling drivers and software, reunifying and everything in between, the buttons still did not work. Started reusing my old Logitech mouse and forward and back work perfectly. It is not a Windows problems, it is this mouse. JUNK!

Bought this to replace the Logitech Trackball that we had used for the last several years, loved that one, why we bought this one! This one, however, is NOT what we had. Bought in March of 2017 and the tracking, what moves the curser, only works sporadically. Have put several new batteries in, dusted the eye, cleaned the ball, etc., etc., etc... VERY disappointed in this one. Not sure want to try another one!

Buy the warranty if you plan to buy this!!!!! I cannot stress that enough. The form and function is excellent; I have no issue with it when it works. I purchased this just over 3 months ago and for 3 months it worked great. Then, out of nowhere, it suddenly stopped being recognized by the laptop I use it with, for no reason. I troubleshooted it via the Logitech FAQ, followed hints/tips/tricks listed by other users, but nada, zero recognition. I uninstalled the Unifier software and reinstalled, which worked for about a day, but the next time I powered up my laptop, nada again.It's not a useless $30 paper weight. If it were only $10 or maybe $20 I wouldn't complain, but $30 for just over 90 days of use? Apparently I'm not the only one with this issue either - it's known. I would caution everyone from purchasing this unless you have $100 a year to spend on mice. It's a shame because it's probably the most comfortable trackball mouse I've used to-date, but if it doesn't work, it doesn't work :(

This thing sucks. I've had problems with it from day 1. It takes 10 - 15 minutes to start working after I dock my laptop in the morning. I have to remove the USB drive and reinsert it each morning when I dock. It blows through batteries very quickly. Even when a fresh battery is installed, there is a lag time between my mouse movements and the mouse on my screen. I have never had a wireless mouse that was more problematic than this one and frankly it makes me angry that I didn't return it after trying to use it the first day. At least then I was within my window. Piece of junk.
