Blows real hard....
September 5, 2017
Bought this because it was highly rated and am very pleased with the performance and easy start..turn off as soon as it sputters out of gas as it will take about 6-8 pulls after gassing up to restart if you let it run TOTALLY out of gas..but I do run it out for end of season winter stortage..wonderfull product with easy access to oil drain-oil fill plug-spark plug and air cleaner..this thing blows harder on idle than my cheap electric one did running..I stood and blew leaves clear across a side street sized road without stepping onto the road..
Good running so far
January 29, 2017
It is working well so far. Not too many people nearby knew Makita made a 4 stroke blower and it rocks! I've been blowing Hurricane Matthew debris for the past few months and with ear gear and a few gallons of gas - I am quietly blowing away the leaves that have fallen and the few that continue to fall with the trees we have left. Good running so far. I love Stihl products but they had no 4 stroke blower.
Great performance and utility
October 24, 2016
Did my first fall cleaning when this arrived. I had to add oil into the unit and fuel it up. The oil cap location makes it a bit challenging to add oil and not spill too much. I cut out a funnel from the handle of a 1-gallon water jug that I had to use and that made it easier. I'll probably have to use the same funnel when I need to change the oil. I was very happy to prime the fuel and after a couple pulls of the starter cord, the blower started up right away. I didn't have to switch between choke and open positions. A full tank of fuel provided me over an hour of run time to clear a large swath of my backyard and then I had to re-fuel to clear my side yard. The leaves in my yard were slightly wet from the rain the night before and the leaf blower didn't have a single problem moving them. I've been trying to switch to 4-stroke yard tools so that I don't have to deal with mixing gasoline and 2-cycle oil and am glad to see this offering by Makita.Pros:- Easy to start- Effective with both wet and dry leaves,- Quiet and fuel efficientCons:- Oil cap location not ideal
Love this thing
June 20, 2016
Love this thing. There aren't many 4stroke options out there but this one takes the cake. Starts on first pull every time. Much quieter than other 2strokes out there. You can use this without ear protection (not recommended) and you don't need to worry about going deaf or having your ears ring...like with 2strokes. Excellent air flow. Even at idle speed this thing moves some serious air. Straps are very comfortable. Feels very well built overall. Only concern would be motor has slight vibration to it. But after a few uses you don't even notice it.
awesome blower
October 14, 2015
simply the best!!!!!!! it starts easily and is very quiet compared to my old Echo, is a little heavy and I changed the straps, other than that it's the best, I have used many blowers in my 35 years of landscaping and this Mikita is the best I have used, I looked at the stihl BG600 and it was difficult to start and the gas cap was difficult to put back on, the stihl had more power but the mikita moves more leaves, it seems to be using the same amount of gas my Echo did, mileage may improve when it's fully broken in.update:I have used the blower all fall and winter, I have many hours blowing tons of leaves and have burned many gallons of gas, still starts on the first or second pull and goes to full throttle immediately the crankcase is still full of oil.......this Mikita is a pleasure to use......throttle lever broke......... .but I still give 5 stars
First-time user liked it very much!
November 16, 2013
As a first time user of a leaf-blower, I feel like I did my research well. This Makita is easy to use, and it worked like a charm after maybe a half-hour of assembly. In my case, it was a little tough fitting the last two black plastic tubing segments on the blower together, as they were so snug that I wasn't able to turn and actually "lock" the last one into the next to last one. However, I was able to fit them together tightly enough that it wasn't a problem during use.The actual blowing power of the blower is outstanding. I saw a couple of bricks lift up off the cover on our built-in grill, and they would have been blown off had I not quickly pointed the blower in a different direction. Maybe that sounds like a problem, but I don't mean to present it as such -- the fact that this thing is able to move as much air as it does is very helpful when it comes to clearing out leaves and arranging them into piles you can deal with. All it takes is a little getting used to, and it becomes very easy to work with as you learn to control the power with the hand-held throttle. I live next to a forest, so when I say this thing moves leaves, I do mean a lot of leaves. I'm one of those people who, in an ideal world, would just prefer to mulch the leaves or leave them be, but my neighborhood is a little upper-crusty, so I pretty much have to do my neighborly duty. Thankfully, the Makita is the right tool for the job. I would go so far as to even say that it is better than the backpack blowers I see being used by the teams of lawn care people who come in to take care of my neighbors' lawns.

Best one I've had and perfect timing. My health is not great and this baby will start with about a 12-inch arm pull. Recommended highly!
Easy start, plenty of power

This works great. Good value. Glad I got it. Blows rocks back into the gravel portion of our driveway.
Great blower. Tons of power

Great blower. Tons of power. I love this thing and has taken my abuse for a few years now. Holds up to daily use as I am an arborist and it gets heavily used on a daily basis
Gas Powered Air Blower Exceeds Expectation
July 24, 2015
Arrived quickly. Very happy with my choice as I researched several other brands like Echo, Husqvarna, and Stihl.
I got it assembled in about 3 minutes. Starts very easy on 2.nd pull. Very quit at idle. Dependable.
Revs up very nicely,. Air nozzle helps direct and funnel the air flow to where you want it.

I wanted a better model than typical at the big box store. So far this has performed above expectation. I would recommend it.

This works very well, maybe could use a different type of nozzle. Starts every time and is powerful.
Great functionality and performance, but needs improvements to make service much easier.
July 14, 2016
Overall very good. Great functionality & performance, but the designer never did an oil change or any kind of service on it! The oil release screw for performing the oil change and where to fill the oil, both should be further out to avoid spilling! To fill the gas could clearly be improved! Starts always on the first attempt. As said before great functionality and performance, but needs improvements to make service much easier! Also, would be nice to be able to buy rack to store it in the garage or on a truck.
It has very good power just the way I wanted it
December 7, 2014
This is the first time I use a four stroke blower. It has very good power just the way I wanted it. One drawback I found was that the different sections of the blower hose come off time to time and I had to use masking tape to keep them in place and that gives it a bandaid look. The machine itself does a decent job.
Good product.
August 28, 2014
Very good machine, great value for the price. from the review I thought it would have a little more power. I have a push type Little Wonder that i use in the yard that is very powerful, but awkward. The Makita is nice as its a lot more mobile for flower beds etc, but wont entirely replace other. Starts every time, east to carry, very happy with it.
A little pricey, but appears to be a very good machine.
May 8, 2014
This Makita was a bit pricey, but is a great machine. I love the four stroke motor. It isn't as loud and obnoxious as some of the other backpack blowers. It also doesn't have the same force that some of the other brands like Echo and Stihl have but it is still a great machine. It is also extremely easy to start - always on the first pull (when priming and choking according to the instructions.)Because it's a four stroke, and the oil is not mixed with the gas, I decided to change the oil after the second run. That process was very simple. Open the reservoir cap, tip it over onto a pan, and refill. Took less than 5 minutes.I have used it about 15 times for perspective.
A perfect choice !!!!!
November 26, 2013
Overall, it was a PERFECT choice. Amazing fast starting, comfortable shoulder straps, clean burning. POWER to spare.*ON the other side........... not easy to load oil reservoir without overfilling and spilling. Difficult to pour gas into the unit from a 4-gal. gas can. Funnels would work but that would require another person to help manage the process.*Overall.......its a fantastic machine and QUIET too!!!

Strong blower!
April 22, 2016
Had some trouble getting started. However everything Working good. Strong blowing power,, wish tube couple inches longer, had Echo for twelve years so was Leary at first, good price so decided to try. Starting procedure and start button confusing at first, now starts right up. So far so good.
Happy with the product, vibrates a bit.
October 1, 2015
Ive used this maybe 2 hours total now and its plenty powerful even when the leaves are wet. Only complaint is the vibration, which i can only really compare to the backpack style blowers and electric ones ive used in the past. I could see the vibration getting old if you were to use this for hours at a time.

Tanaka is a quiet clean and powerfull machine. Unfortunately it is a 23.9cc engine, not a 25cc as advertised, but that is marginal.
Much bettert han my older Craftsman blower
December 13, 2012
Starts easily, and blows a lot harder than my previous blower. I used to have to reach in and scoop out material when blowing out my gutters, but this Tanaka blower makes quick work of even the most plugged gutters. I have a Catalpa tree overhanging part of my house, anyone who knows these trees knows how messy they are. No issues for this blower, It would be 4 1.2 stars, my only negative is t he fuel primer button is located in a difficult position to get to and it sometimes is so powerful it sucks leaves, and your clothes against the intake side. Better for a left-hander,

My new yardtool, starts a little slow for the first 2 minutes, but once it is warmed up works great. Needed to add a few mods to make it work well, had to velcro together part of the air wand. For the price I shouldn't need to fix the design.

July 20, 2014
I've only used it once, but noticed it transmitted a significant amount of vibration to the shoulder straps, irritating my shoulders. My previous blower was a Stihl and don't remember a lot of vibration.
Poor engineering.
June 11, 2014
This unit has plenty of power and does a great job. The only problem I found is that the blower arm is in three pieces that "1/4 turn" to lock into each other. But as you move the arm back and forth they aren't tight and work their way lose. As you'd expect they go flying. Wanna try and pick them up and put them back together with this thing on your back? I think I'm going to have to duct tape them together. From a company with a name like Makita and for this price I expected much better.

starts easily and does as advertised
September 6, 2017
This product performs perfectly, starts easily and does as advertised, but....
The pull cord starter assembly is a weak point. It worked great for 6 months but one day my lawn guy pulled too hard (???) and the pull string broke right off. Evidently this is a know weakness because the part was backordered from the manufacturer and took 3 months before I received the replacement part, the whole summer without. If this does happen make sure get the right part. There are 2 parts available depending on manufacture date.
power is now pretty good. The blower is heavier than I expected
September 16, 2015
It took several weeks for the engine to break in;power is now pretty good. The blower is heavier than I expected.I wanted a blower that was mulcher compatible(I just received the vac kit).If you don't need to mulch,I would recommend the Tanaka/Hitachi lightweight handheld;it has the same engine as mine and is 2 lbs lighter.Much lower cost as well.
This does appear to be heavy duty and should last a long time.Parts can be bought online. If you're near to a Stihl dealer, have a look at their commercial handheld blower;I had one 5/6 years ago and their product may be a better bet than my Tanaka.Cost is about the same.In hindsight maybe I should have gone back to Stihl.
Be careful. ......

Unit starts great, light to handle, air flow is powerful. But the recoil housing gets hot. Using this for the first time, my leg came in contact with housing. And yes, it left a nice burn mark.. I wish they would update unit/ a cover to house the metal recoil. Will contact manufacturer.

Poor design with intake sucking in your cloths
August 17, 2014
Poor design with intake sucking in your cloths. I had trouble getting mine to start but that may just be mine. I switched to no ethanol gasoline and it seems too work better. I also think the longer blow arm makes it feel unbalanced compared to my old Stihl and Husqvarna but I was ready to try something new. It seems well built.

Great 4 Cycle Engine - Everything Else About this is CHEAP! Don't waste your money.
October 25, 2016
Great 4 cycle engine but very heavy. Pricey as well and you can buy Stihl top of the line at your local hardware store in this price range. Most of all the throttle handle and air tube are CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP. The throttle handle has intermittent electrical shocks that hit your hand where the handle is screwed together. Won't kill you but is a irritating pop to your hand about every 10-15 minutes. Don't know what is causing this unless it is not grounded properly. Somehow the spark plug is generating voltage that is running up the throttle cable. Not too smart.
Good but died too fast.

It was a good blower when it was working. For reasons unknown, it stopped working for me. But 5 stars for Amazon customer service for helping me sort it out.

this is not as powerful as a huskavarna. it is ok but I wish we would have gotten something with more power
Awesome blower when it ran.
June 15, 2014
I purchased this blower for my wife as she likes 4 stroke equipment. It was just a little big for her but she is barely 5' and 105 lbs. She was excited to get it and we proceeded to gas and oil it up and try it out. It really blows up a storm, incredible performance compared to other leaf blowers we had, and very quiet while doing it.Well it ran for an hour without issue, but the next use it wouldn't start. Had spark, fuel and felt like it had compression. I checked all the simple things, didn't really want to tear it apart too far since it was under warranty. I called Makita and they said either bring it to a service center or get a refund or replacement since it was within 30 days. I called Amazon and they wouldn't take it back, which I knew, but said he would issue a refund and to dispose of the blower.I now had a refund and a non running Makita blower. It would've been a waste to throw it away so now that there was no warranty and the sale void I tore it apart. I found a broken pushrod, broken lifter and scored up cam. The cause; no oil to the cylinder head. If you look under the air filter you will find a square cap in the corner. Under that is a vacuum operated valve. While the engine is running that valve will open and pull oil up from the crankcase and flow it into another tube that goes to the head. The faster the engine runs the more oil will flow. From the head it makes it way to the cam and lifters. The plug on mine was not seated correctly and oil was flowing into the intake tube to the carb rather than the head, which is what caused all the damage.I called Makita again and told them the story and to find out if I could purchase parts. I had all the part numbers I needed for cam gear, 2 lifters, and 2 pushrods. They sold me the parts shipped for $48. Got everything installed and it fired instantly and ran perfect. I'm going to pull the valve and cam covers occasionally just to make sure it's getting oil but so far so good.So just a word of advice, check to make sure that cap is on tight in the airbox. There is a rubber tab that hangs down from it so make sure that is in place as well. This oil valve setup is in the left front corner of the air box as your looking at it from the recoil side, can't miss it.All in all I'm happy with the blower, especially since I have $48 into it. If nothing else I will donate it to our church. If I buy another I will find a BBX7600CA model. The CA is made in Japan and the N is made in China, at least that's what Makita told me, and they were aware of the questions of origin on Amazon.UPDATE: After the repairs the blower ran well for about five hours, then quit again. I've yet to pull it apart but by the sound I get turning it over slowly it's broke some valve train or cam/lifter parts again. The oiling system on these is less than ideal, and even the manager of the Makita service center admitted the same. I may repair it one more time, not sure. I just bought a Husqvarna 356BT from a local dealer for my wife, with a 4 year warranty. It's much more comfortable as the weight doesn't hang so far off your back. I won't buy power equipment online ever again, much rather have local support.

Runs strong, but comes up short
October 25, 2013
Bought this blower here on Amazon, the design is very poor in that if you carry the blower in your right hand and make any contact with or block the fan intake, the motor overspeeds and the fan and flywheel contact the case and ignition coil creating a useless piece of junk. The good news is that the parts for a do it yourselfer cost about $35.00 total to repair it. It is very annoying that I am repairing this blower for the third time in the 1 year of ownership. When it runs. this thing does KICK BUTT!
Not that great
June 23, 2012
Well I recieved this last July and have used it maybe a total of 3 hours and the fuel line busted, so I caleed their so called coustmer service and it was like a big deal to find out where to take this for service since it has a 7 year warrenty at least I hope so cause the clown at the repair center didn't know if this was cover I spend a little extra buying what I thought would be a good product and it broke down in less than a year. Now I have to wait about two weeks to get it fixed I guess I should have went to Lowes and brought one there I will never buy this brand again.
Great Warrantee (You Will Need It!)
June 13, 2012
This was much stronger and dependable than my previous blower (Craftsman), for about a year. After almost a year of ownership I noticed all the gas had leaked out, I discovered the fuel line to be full of holes. I trimmed the gas line and move it up, only to have it tear as well. It appears all the lines will need to be completely replaced they are all falling apart. Aside from that my machine has started idling extremely rough. It feels and sounds like its trying to destroy itself from the inside. To get these items fixed I will need to travel 80 miles round trip to drop it off and 80 miles round trip to pick it up in order to find an authorized service center. In the mean time I will have to buy another blower since I use this one regularly. Next time it will not be a Tanaka and it will be purchased locally.

Disappointed with this product...
June 29, 2016
This unit ran for just over a year (purchased last May 2015) and worked very well, while it worked (about 40 hours use so far). Just the other day it began making a loud wheezing/grinding noise in the impeller/blower section, like some part of the gear drive (?) is chewing up some plastic component within. I think it is the most expensive leaf blower available on Amazon, but I'm certainly disappointed. (note that this is the China version of the blower, I should have bought the one made in Japan, perhaps that lasts longer). Once I get it repaired (hope it can be) I'll try and provide an update on what actually came apart inside.
Do not buy from Amazon You can not return this item. And made in China. CRAP CRAP CRAP
August 20, 2015
This blower worked good for about 3 hrs than began to vibrate. Than made a lot of noise, shut it down and called makita and told to take it to a service center 35 miles away. I drove over and Ken the head mechanic said he would look at it later that day.As soon as I got back he called and told me the motor had broken a valve and it could not be fixed. He said it would be at least a month before he could get a replacement from makita and the best thing to do is take it back to where I bought it. So I contacted Amazon and was told I could not return it! They said it said no return on this item.My mistake I did not read everything very good.So I have to take it back to the service center [ I have already driven 140 mile now I have to drive another 140 miles to take it back and pick up the new one when it comes in. ] Plus I have to wait a month to get a new one.So before you buy one of these, First do not buy it from Amazon, second buy a brand that is not made in China.I will sell the new one when it comes in and buy a stihl that can be worked on not a China piece of crap.I only bought this because it is a four stroke and they seem to be the only manufacturer that makes four strokes.I thought makita was made in Japan but was told some were but not the ones sold on Amazon. So buyer beware!

but a pretty forceful SHOCK
March 29, 2015
I purchased the Makita blower after significant research. It worked well in the fall but when I started using it this spring the handle started SHOCKING me. No just a little jolt, but a pretty forceful SHOCK!!!!!! I would stay away from this blower especially for the ridiculous price for such a poorly manufactured product.UPDATE - brought the product to the Makita Service Center for a warranty repair. The solution to the SHOCK problem from the main service department is to not operate in dry, dusty conditions. This is totally unacceptable. Makita does not appear to have a service email so the only recourse is to call the service center AGAIN. I WILL NEVER BUY A MAKITA PRODUCT AGAIN!

Repairs Needed, 3rd Attempt in process
August 18, 2014
Be Advised - there are some issues with this unit. I used the unit after purchase for about 3 hours and it started stalling when you accelerated the engine. Makita 1-800 service was great, prepaid the shipment to the service center. It took about 2 weeks in the middle of my "blowing season". They replaced the carburetor, plugs and some other fuel related parts. It was a big repair. It just got back from the service center and the same issue is happening after 15 min of use. Based on so many positive reviews, looks like mine was a lemon - but it has been unusable or gone much of the season. Just what I was hoping to avoid by purchasing a high quality unit.UPDATE- Makita customer service advised me to send it back for another repair. I have to purchase a large box for the unit but they will cover the shipping and repair under the one-year warranty. I requested a new unit to avoid further inconvenience but they will not send a new unit except as required by the lemon laws: after 3 unsuccessful repairs in 90 days. So more time without use of the blower.UPDATE - 2nd RETURN FAILED. The unit arrived back from Makita after the second repaid and it had the exact same issue. Stalled when the throttle was turned up right out of the box. I ran it for 10 min to make sure it did not need to warm up. Idles great, won't rev. VERY frustrating. They still will not send me a new unit and insist on having it returned for further repairs. The repair notice in the box noted a new carb was installed. The issue was so obvious that I find it hard to believe that the tech did not notice. Maybe they just let it idle and then packed it up. It was also shipped back from the repair center with gas in the tank which I'm sure FedEx would not be pleased to hear. Bad news all around. Nice folks in the call center but they are powerless to override the policies even after two repairs.

What a Disappointment
November 23, 2016
I would give this product zero stars if I could. I have had 3 gas blowers through the years, I read all the good reviews about this product so when I needed a new blower I purchased this one. What a mistake! Reviewers said after 3 pulls the motor started. It took about 12 pulls before the motor started the first time I used the blower. It took a lot of effort to pull the cord and I am not a small guy.. A week later I attempted to use the blower again. It would not start! My wife saw me straining to pull the cord and could not believe it would take that much effort. Needless to say, I called Amazon and am getting a refund. When it worked it did have a lot of power, but it was heavier than blowers I have used in the past. Incidentally, Tanaka is the commercial division of Hitachi. My last blower was a Hitachi and I will probably be going back to that.
*********** DO NOT BUY - DOESN'T START ******************
October 8, 2016
This is absolutely, positively, without a doubt THE WORST blower I've ever had and I've had a dozen or more over the years! I'd tell you how it worked . . . but it simply will not start. Put it together, used the oil/gas mix, turned it on, primed it, used the choke as instructed. After a half hour and bloody fingers from pulling the %*$&%$%$ cord, it would not start. Not even a burp. So, I figure there will be a number for the company to call. No. None, No way to contact them.

The only positive is that Amazon was outstanding in doing what they could to fix it. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AND THIS MODEL IN PARTICULAR. IT DOES NOT WORK!!!!!
Rope on new unit broke on 4th start
July 5, 2016
I must admit, the first 3 times I used the blower, I was impressed with the blowing power. The fourth time, the recoil rope broke at mid pull, not at extension, so there was an oblivious flaw in the rope or the rope was of poor quality--or both. The rope broke after 30 days, so I couldn't return it. I called Tanaka and they said the rope wasn't under warranty and I would have to take it to a Tanaka service location 1.5 hours away (I live in an MSA). Tanaka was kind enough to give me the telephone number for replacement parts where I ordered the part for $14, which is to be shipped directly from Tanaka for $10. What should have happened? Tanaka could see from my Amazon order that the blower was new and this was an incident of infant mortality. At this point, they should have apologized for my inconvenience shipped the part to me without charge. Stay away from Tanaka lawn tools.
Made a bad Choice
May 4, 2016
I purchased this blower last March two and a half months ago, before I needed it. Last week I needed it, took it out of the box and fueled it as per instructions. Started up on second pull, I used it several times, started very easy every time, I still have just under one half of original tank of oil gas mix. I tried to start it yesterday, nothing, not even a pop. reviewed starting procedure, realized I was already doing it just as they say in manual. Tried several more times nothing. Checked for spark has good spark. Checked fuel, can see it going through return line, and can smell it tried again nothing. Removed plug and pulled rope several times to help dry it out if flooded. I let it sit for 2 hours tried again nothing. Removed plug again and held on to it and pulled rope to check for spark again,(I don't recommend this method but I needed to know,if it had spark) it did, so I left plug out and pulled rope many times, then left it overnight to make sure it was dried out. The next day I put plug back in and pulled rope it has definite compression. pumped primer two times watched fuel go through return line, tried to start nothing. I am really disappointed with this blower. It ran so good for the first four times I guess about 20 or 30 minutes, now its impossible to get started I'm so mad I want to smash it with a double jack. The reason I bought it to start with was because of the good reviews. What a mistake that was.

User Overview
  • Awesome suction

I owned both vacuums. The Makita is lighter, easier to use, the battery does not keep popping out like in the Dyson (I hated having to keep hitting the battery and restart the vacuum) and the suction is comparable. I will have to buy the carpet nozzle to figure out the pet hair issue (the floor nozzle does not do a good job with pet hair). Dyson picks up the pet hair very well.
