Five Star Reviews: | 70% I already know this press. July 4, 2017 I know this press from Germany and we use it to make potato balls and mash potatoes.I am glad that I found one here on Amazon, so I can continue making these recipes.Good quality and cleans easy if you rinse it immediately after use. No more starchy mashed potatoes at our house. June 21, 2017 Love using this for mashed potatoes. So nice to have potatoes that aren't starchy. I used to have one that was bigger, that had holes in the side as well as the bottom. This one could be bigger but I get done with a big pan of potatoes in no time and my family loves them. TOP QUALITY! LOVE IT April 5, 2017 AWESOME! Top quality! I have no idea why it took me so long to buy this item. I found it to be very easy to clean with sponge or brush, especially right after use. I have had to soak it a few times but comes out like new every single time. Best ricer on the market January 24, 2017 This ricer is perfect. Because it only rices from the bottom it is easy to control where the potato's go and it's handles are wonderful!! I love this ricer. We used it the day it arrived and it makes a beautiful change for presentation. My dad has Parkinson's and has difficulty chewing... this lets him easily eat without a problem. It makes the potato's light and pretty. This cleans up great and I recommend it over any ricer that doesn't have the grips and especially any ricer that has the holes on the side of the cylinder. Very pleased with this item March 20, 2016 I wanted fluffy soft mashed potatoes and this delivered.Very pleased with this item. Was used right away to make simple mashed potatoes. I just scooped them in and squeezed. So simple. Once they were all extruded through the tool and simple mix with milk and butter and the potatoes were so light and fluffy.Price was better her than in my local cooking stores and with free shipping through prime I couldn't resist. Creamy, lumpless Potatos are just a click away! January 21, 2014 I have heard for quite some time how wonderful Potato Ricers are. They process the Potato in one squeeze, and prevent over mixing and creating glue when using a stand mixer. I decided to see for myself if I preferred riced potatoes. The first time I used the OXO Ricer, the Potatoes came out creamy and delicious. The texture was different than whipped Potatoes, and the flavor was more "natural". I didn't need to stir in as much butter or cream as I usually would when I used the stand mixer. I now use the Ricer every time I make Mashed Potatoes, and really enjoy this new method. The OXO Ricer is easy to use, easy to clean, and the padded grips prevent hand cramping if you are processing a larger batch. - Highly recommended. | 85% Just what I was looking for! July 26, 2017 I've seen this Oxo tool on many different cooking shows on TV. I looked in various big department stores for it, plus a famous kitchen store, but no one had it, so I ordered it from Amazon. It came in the mail yesterday, and I was very surprised how thick and heavy duty the stainless steel scraper is! There's even an inches scales engraved into it!! This will make my life so much easier, as I do a lot of cooking at home. The handle is heavy duty also. I'm always cutting up something, and using the back of a knife to try to scrape up onions, garlic, carrots, celery, etc, was time consuming. I can't wait to use this scraper when I make dinner tonight!! Strong and Sturdy and Perfect! June 2, 2017 it is larger than I thought. That is not a problem, but just bigger than I imagined, even though I read the dimensions, I didn't realize it. But it is great!. It is sturdy and strong metal. The handle is soft and non slip. It is perfect for baking or for scooping up chopped vegetables. Note: it is not flexible. If you were hoping for a flexible one to scoop in or out of bowls, then get a plastic one. This is very solid, sturdy, and strong. Great puchase and a must for all who do lots of cooking and need to scoop vegetables or for those who do lots of baking. Favorite gadget! September 21, 2016 My favorite kitchen gadget ever. I used the crap out of this thing, and have been whining at my family to get me a new one since I moved 6 months ago. No joke, I love this thing. It is fantastic for anyone into baking or candy making. Keep it mind it has zero flexibility, so think of it as a cutter, as a ruler, and as a scraper, but just not if the job calls for a flexible scraper. When I mix in hot sugar for candy, I like these, because I can get the most off of the surface. I also love it when I'm trying to get my dough precise. Very nice product, and a great multi-tasker January 23, 2015 Works great. I always get set with the task of doing all the knife work in my kitchen, so I spend a lot of time at the cutting board, and I really like this little guy. Makes clean up very fast, and you're able to get everything into the bowl very quickly without messing around. It also acts as a very nice dough cutter when baking as well! And lastly, it also has length measurement marking along the blade so you can measure your cuts. A very handy kitchen multitasker. Good quality construction. I see us having this product for a very long time. Recommended For Bread and Pie Crust February 5, 2014 I bought this on a whim, and now find that I can't do without it when making bread and pastry. As an engineer, I'm very careful (my kids say loony) about wanting everything a uniform size. I make large batches of pie crust dough, and weigh it, and then use this to cut it into exactly even pieces. Likewise, when I'm making yeast rolls, I use a scale to divide my batch of dough in half, and then use this cutter to cut off pieces which are exactly 2 ounces. It's much easier than wrestling with your dough. The handle at the top of this chopper is very large and feels soft, although it's really hard plastic. It feels good in the hand, and works well either left- or right-handed. Finally, when cleaning up the counter after making pie crust, yeast bread or anything which involves slinging lots of flour around, this is wonderful for scraping it up without marring the counter, and it's large enough to hold a lot of flour and remove it from the counter. OXO makes good quality items, and this one is quite useful. | 66% There are no reviews yet | 77% There are no reviews yet | 78% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 17% too much slips up the sides unriced November 29, 2015 Well, it does the job, sorta. Too much squeezes past the paddle that pushes the potatoes down. This is unriced stuff that you need to run thru again, only still some slips up the sides unriced. I'll be looking for one that does not let so much get by. Makes THE BEST mashed potatoes imaginable April 1, 2014 I have wanted a potato rice for so long, but I wasn't ready for how decadent my mashed potatoes would be! This ricer truly is a game changer. Whatever I thought I knew and liked about mashed potatoes was wrong. This ricer makes the silkiest, creamiest potatoes. As strange as it is, the mouth-feel is fantastic and I find myself needing less butter and milk/cream.That being said, I do find this potato ricer a bit cumbersome, especially if you are mashing 5 pounds of potatoes. The handle is not as ergonomic (read: comfortable to hold) as I have come to expect from OXO. I do, however, think it provides great leverage so the mashing is simple. Also, after filling the chamber and squeezing the handle, some of the potato manages to make its way around the sides of the hinged masher plate so that potato is sitting on top of it. It does this not matter how much or little potato you add. I think its just eh way it was designed. This means that potato will probably end up on your counters (or bowl) when you pull the masher plate back up and flip it out of the way to add more potatoes to the chamber. It's not the end of the world and I'm not a very neat cook in the kitchen anyway. If making a mess while cooking makes your eye start to twitch, you may want to check out another ricer. It's good December 10, 2013 I like this item. It's sturdy and you can rice the potatoes without peeling them. The only thing I think could be improved on is if it had holes along the side as well. When you rice the potatoes it does have a tendency to push mashed potato over the top of the ricer. If it could go out the side as you rice them, it wouldn't do that. And to be perfectly honest, it really didn't make much of a difference in mashing the potatoes. They were pretty much the same as they were when I didn't rice them. So, if you hate peeling potatoes, you can use this prior to mashing and you don't have to peel them. However, because some of the potato gets pushed up over the top during the ricing, you can get a few pieces of peel in your potatoes that way. Sturdy product that makes great potatoes! January 2, 2012 We purchased this ricer to make a Thanksgiving potato recipe, and we are very pleased with the product. It's great not having to peel the potatoes before ricing - they stay behind in the cup while the potato "guts" are pressed through the little holes. Occasionally you will get a bit of peel coming through, but that's easy to pick out, or you can leave it in the finished dish. The ricer is very efficient, doesn't take a lot of force to operate, and cleans easily in the dishwasher. The best part is that riced potatoes are EXCELLENT: soft, pillowy, and smooth as can be. This ricer is a major step up from hand mashing or using a hand-mixer! Worthwhile Purchase! December 19, 2011 Prior to recently I did not have much experience with potato ricers but when reading about different gnocchi techniques they were regularly mentioned as providing smooth and even potatoes and other vegetables of the like. I was a bit hesitant to purchase something that seemingly accomplished one task...mashing, which is something I have been able to do with a masher or a mixer. Regardless I took the plunge and I must say it has been a worthwhile purchase. This ricer produces consistently smooth potatoes. I have also used it with sweet potatoes, acorn squash, squeezing liquid from spinach and grated jalapeno and to juice lemons. It has done all of these effortlessly and consistently.I find myself using it at least once a week while preparing dinner, often times just to make mashed potatoes for one. It allows me to make what was once a relatively involved side dish in under two minutes of active kitchen work.I plan on gifting a few of these in the coming months. mashed my old ricer in head to head comparison November 30, 2011 I had a larger version of one of these potato ricers for years and was very satisfied with it - it had interchangeable plates and could even handle a well scrubbed peel without clogging or even unloading the peels in between presses, but with a newly empty nest my cooking habits/needs as a single person have changed and I'm trying some different equipment these days. After using both my old and this new OXO potato ricer over the past Thanksgiving week, this one wins my 'cooking for 1-2 people' approval.Comparing side by side, this basically one piece design does a great job creating smooth mash - the other model had different size plates but if I want it a little more homestyle/chunky I can keep a little of the potatoes in reserve and mash with a fork, adding texture to the smooth batch as desired. There was no struggling with this one to unscrew any parts to clean - just tossed it in the dishwasher. I never realized this was a bit of a chore with my other ricer until struggling to get it apart after it was tossed in a sink at Thanksgiving with other greasy items and pretty much glued itself together until it sat in a little soapy water for a while. The handles are significantly shorter than I'm used to but even with pretty bad arthritis they are easy enough to work and get the job done. The smaller handles mean this is much easier to store in the drawer with my most used tools as opposed to the larger model which had pretty much made an appearance once a year because it lived in a pantry. The OXO version has already been used twice in the past two weeks - I'd almost forgotten how well meatloaf goes with mash - yummmm! | 11% Useful and Well Made. December 17, 2016 Heavier handle than I'm used to, but a fine utensil. When you need one - nothing else will do. In the catering firm we always called it a "bus", probably because it transported food from one place to another (quite apart from its relationship to dough). It's a nice product, though being old fashioned, I still prefer the one with the pearwood handle. Nice quality with some reservations and unfortunately like most everything it is unfortunately made in China. April 20, 2016 I like this scraper although I agree with America's test kitchen on PBS where they did not rate this as their favorite because the handle is so wide that you cannot get it close enough to the counter for use in some scraping preparation work but other than that I like the quality of the product other than the fact that like most products it unfortunately is made in China. Why didn't I get one of these before? January 13, 2016 I got this after reading Kenji Lopez-Alt's "The Food Lab". Then I made chili to fill 2 Dutch ovens, and the prep was a lot more efficient because of this tool. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is a storage issue. I want to keep it out near my cutting board, but can't figure out a sensible way to store it there. If there was a hole in the handle, I'd put a hook on the wall. Does anyone know: can I drill a hole in this? Is it solid plastic except for the blade, or is it a plastic layer over a core material? Excellent bench scraper January 4, 2015 This product surely does not need another review, but here goes anyway. I use it exclusively as a bench scraper for moving flour around a baking bench, cleaning the bench, and dividing dough. I don't use it as a chopper; I don't use it to scoop diced vegetables off a cutting board (there are better tools for that); I just use it as a classic bench scraper. It works very well for that purpose. One reviewer was concerned that the scraper is not flexible. A bowl scraper should be flexible but a bench scraper should not be, so that is simply not an issue. The handle is not made of exotic wood, just hard rubber, but it is comfortable, non-slip, and sturdy. I wash it by hand as a matter of habit, so whether or not it is dishwasher safe is not an issue for me. I have seen prettier bench scrapers, and I like the look of a wooden handle, but this is a cost-effective high quality item that should last indefinitely. | 16% There are no reviews yet | 15% There are no reviews yet | 7% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 7% Very good at it's job August 14, 2016 Very good at it's job. Real tough too, I can prop it up in the corner of the sink and bounce up and down on it. The biggest problem is that the inside edges are freakishly sharp so you better be careful. the potato texture came out great. January 29, 2016 It holds fewer pieces of potatoes at one time than I expected, and the potatoes that don't make it through the tiny holes come up the interior sides and sometimes on top of the piece pushing down. The overflow potatoes then fall off into the bowl. I was constantly scraping them back in. So if you don't mind a little extra work, the potato texture came out great. Takes time, works fine November 20, 2014 You've got to really hate lumps in your potatoes to want to use this. My son hates lumps, so I got it. Just know it takes time to press through half a potato at a time, remove the skin from the ricer, and go to the next. I got it to save time peeling too, but maybe I'd rather peel? I tried it with cooked squash to, and it worked fine. Not Like Mom's June 24, 2014 The ricer is OK. The one my mother had 50 years ago had holes in the side also. I like the two handle feature and it's SS so easy clean up. It does the job I had hoped it would do. mashed potatos just taste better, riced and so does Slovak spatzle and cabbage when you use the ricer for the potatos. For the cook who has everything Gets the job done but could be better. November 16, 2013 I'm usually a great fan of OXO gadgets but this one is only so so. It gets the job done but feels a bit flimsy and hard to use. They need to "OXO" it more with bigger handles and a tighter fit for the plunger. | 3% A little too small, but works fine. June 27, 2016 Was surprised to see how small it was. It's on the small side, but does the job. Does OK. Certain doughs do stick very badly though ... December 7, 2015 Does OK. September 2, 2015 Very sturdy, The handle is a little too beefy for my personal taste when I'm doing many veggies for canning for example. Quality is GREAT though. depends on what you want to use it for..... January 23, 2015 Great scooping knife and scraper for butcher block which is exactly what I purchased it for. The knife itself is dull, dull, dull hence why I rated it only 3 stars. | 6% There are no reviews yet | 8% There are no reviews yet | 7% There are no reviews yet |
Two Star Reviews: | 3% Requires much more strength than I have. April 28, 2017 Way too hard to use. I am not strong enough to push things through this. Definitely wouldn't recommend for anyone who doesn't have a long of hand strength. Does not have holes all around February 4, 2017 I did not notice in the picture that it only has holes on the bottom and not all around making it more difficult to use than the old one I used to have Gotta BE Strong! April 21, 2015 The principle behind the potato ricer is great. I was really looking forward to it solving the "Gummy Mashed Potato Problem, but I don't have enough hand strength to use it. If a kitchen product doesn't make cooking easier, faster, and the end result tastier, then I guess it's not a product I want to waste my time trying to use. Not good for large amounts January 9, 2014 I found that after a few potatoes going through, chunks would accumulate over the lid and then fall into the bowl. If your making small amounts it would probably be fine but I bought this for big family dinners using 5-10 of potatoes and it was useless. OXO Good Grips Potato Ricer December 9, 2013 Bleh. Terrible product. It did not work at all. I tried to use this with over cooked potatoes and cauliflower. Both bent the ricer. I ended up getting rid of this product. I wished it had worked. Messy December 4, 2013 I bought this to help me make awesome mashed potatoes and baby food. The results were nice but makes a huge mess! I feel like food gets everywhere. not impressed. | 1% So glad I didn't throw out my 10-year old scraper/chopper that ... November 22, 2016 So glad I didn't throw out my 10-year old scraper/chopper that I got from Target for $2.99. It has a larger surface and lays flat, so scooping up chopped vegetables is easier. Because of the black handle, the OXO scraper/chopper doesn't lay flat. I'll probably leave it in the back of the utensil drawer for a few years until I ask myself why I'm hanging onto it when I have no use for it . . . and then throw it out. Oh, well. Too sharp for me. April 12, 2016 I had a dough scraper that I used for many years and loved. The handle is cracking so I bought this. But the edge is very sharp. It worked but doesn't move smoothly over my wooden countertop as my old one did. I am afraid I am going to scratch my countertop and it is rather like nails on a chalkboard to me. Two Stars November 2, 2015 I didn't really like it as it's not that great of a chopper. It's just not sharp enough. | 5% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 3% There are no reviews yet |
One Star Reviews: | 3% Not for baby food November 29, 2016 "finely mashed baby food" should be taken out of the description. It does not work. Love OXO because its products are great for people that ... July 29, 2016 Love OXO because its products are great for people that need large grip gadgets. Was hoping this would make my potato mashing easier but it is really heavy. Slow going September 20, 2014 It could just be me, but I found this clumsy to use. It is flimmsey. I prefer a regular potato smasher, much faster. I hated it and sent it back July 18, 2014 Practically riced the potato into a liquid. I hated it and sent it back. Not A Potato Ricer August 23, 2013 The holes were much too small for potatoes! I returned it. I suppose it could be used for juicing soft fruit. Oxo not so good grips potato ricer January 30, 2011 The soft grips are fine but too much potato escapes out the side of the plunger when in use and as the plunger is released the escaping potato is forced out the top of the ricer and falls in on the riced potato | 0% I thought it was a chopper so no it will ... December 13, 2016 I thought it was a chopper so no it will. It do what I was needing it to do . Not Recommended October 29, 2016 This product is labeled as Stainless Steele which should be rust resistant. After each use, I hand washed & dried the scraper to protect the finish. It rusted after only a few uses. I would not recommend this product. Dull as a hammer December 31, 2014 Dull as a hammer. It is a bit big to be handled easily, but it is very thick heavy tool and edge is dullest thing in our kitchen. I use to have this tool as part of the the knife set made by different manufacturer, it was thin, light, razor sharp and we used if for pretty much anything, and unfortunately, this one is nothing like it. Multipurpose? I still need to think one thing I can use it for. | 7% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 5% There are no reviews yet |
