This is a good quality product and can be very sturdy if the assembly is done patiently and thoughtfully. It is mostly particle board, so if you decide to use power tools to assemble, they should only be used to only advance a screw, NOT to initiate or tighten.There is no lock, but the safety mechanism is great: only one drawer out at a time. It is weighted at the back, so a fully extended drawer doesn't compromise the stability or make it feel like it will tip over.

Very nice file cabinet. My 16 yr old daughter and I put this together all by ourselves it took us 2 hours and all we needed was a screwdriver and a hammer/rubber mallet. The directions were easy to follow. Some of the file hangers was broken. I called Bush the following morning with my manual in hand and they placed an order for the replacement parts. I am VERY happy with this for the price its well worth it. Looks great in my office!

I've put together a lot of the self – assembly furniture over the years. From probably almost every brand out there. What impresses me the most with this brand is how everything fits together so well. No misalignment holes, no holes too deep or two shallow. I'm also impressed with the quality of the workmanship. I didn't have to scrape shavings out of holes before I put the hardware in. And every part was labeled with the same label as what you found in the instructions. Down to the individual bags used for each hardware and fasteners type. In shipping a couple of pieces got damaged and their customer service department was excellent. Within two days I had the replacements in hand. I've finally become a fan of the self-assembly furniture world. At least the Bush variety.

This cabinet fit the bill. I have gone through a couple other cabinetsthat keep having the bottoms break out or the sliding drawers stop working or get bent. So far I love this cabinet! Not only does it looks nice on the outside, but all the parts look and feel great too. It looks sleek and would fit with many types of decor. The wood is a bit darker than I expected, but I am totally fine with that. It is definitely espresso.It took maybe an hour or two to put together start to finish, just be sure to read the directions through and make sure you're using the right pieces. I know that should go without saying, but sometimes things get mixed up! I had no issues with any of the hardware not fitting or cracking wood like some reviewers have mentioned.The sliding drawers work really well and they have a "stop" feature to keep the drawer from coming out and to keep you from opening both drawers at the same time. One feature I really like is that the inside of the drawers are the same color as the outside. My last couple cabinets have been light mdf board color inside while the outside is dark. The bottom of the drawers feel sturdy and I am confident I can load this cabinet up. The drawers do not have locks, but I was not looking for one with locks.Even if I pull out a drawer, it does not feel like this would tip over, the cabinet is very sturdy. I only keep a printer on top of it.Overall I definitely recommend this drawer!

I purchased this file cabinet for home use and am very pleased with it. It's important to know that it does not come assembled. My husband put it together in a few hours with no problems. If I had to do it myself it would be a different story. As others have said, be very careful putting it together as the wood can be easily damaged. It was definitely worth the price - I had looked at others that were much more. The only thing missing is a lock, but that wasn't a high priority for me.

Beautiful furniture - everyone gushes over how nice it looks. No one would believe it arrived as 5,000 pieces in a box (slight exaggeration). Drawers are wonderful - open and close so smoothly. Safety locks work well. I bought two of the 2-drawer lateral files, two cube bookcases and the L-shaped desk. I put the bookcases on top of two of the lateral files and it looks fantastic (fastened the book cases to the wall). Has really transformed my home office into a beautiful space.Back to the 5,000 pieces - there were A LOT of pieces to put together. It was a bit daunting considering I ordered six pieces of furniture. The instructions are very good - just take your time and read carefully. The beginning of the instruction book says two people is recommended for the assembly. No way - two people are a must - there is no way one person could do this without a great amount of frustration. What I did was to do all of the prep work myself then called in my father to help hold pieces together while I completed the assembly.I highly recommend this furniture.

The first one came damaged. This could be a shipping issue, but when you ship 80 lb items in one poorly packaged box, it's all but inevitable. The replacement came undamaged enough that we could cannibalize parts and piece together a Franken-furniture. Completed, it seems fairly sturdy and is pretty decent looking. Fit and finish is on par with most other self assembly particle board pieces, perhaps a little better. The hardware is delicate. I recommend putting the drill/driver away and using your hand tools for this one. it won't add much time, and you're not going to find the pieces to finish it at home depot after you've stripped or broken them. These lateral files provide a tough decision. This purchase was made for a home office, where I didn't want to spend $2,000 on a really good file. It fits the bill nicely, just make sure you check it before you sign for delivery.

I purchased this file cabinet almost 2 years ago along with the desk to match. This cabinet holds a tremendous amount of paperwork for its size. Each drawer has two side-by-side partitions for files so you can put a lot into there. A nice feature is that if you open one drawer it locks the other. This helps to ensure that some weight stays in the main piece of furniture to keep it from tipping.

Great looking--looks more like furniture than a filing cabinet. It is close to the brown-black bedroom furniture from Ikea--not identical but close enough that it blends. The box arrived pretty beat up, but there was no damages to any of the pieces. Quality is typical for this type of particle-board/MDF furniture. All of the holes lined up except for one, and that one was only slightly off so it required just a bit of widening with a screwdriver.I wanted something sturdy and relatively permanent, so I took the time to add construction adhesive to all the joints and connection points. I plan to put a flat screen TV on top, and it will support the weight with no problem.The mechanism to allow only one drawer at a time to open is pretty simple, and it works. It would not stand up to a lot of force, but that's not its purpose.There's no detente when the drawers are closed, and they do seem to have a tendency to come open. That's probably more an issue with my floors being level rather than an issue with the cabinet. I expect a couple of small shims under the front of the cabinet will remedy this.The handles are shiny plastic and pretty awful, but I bought solid brushed nickel ones at Home Depot for $4 each. It was well worth the trouble to replace them because it makes a big difference. Cabinet handles come in different widths; purchase the ones that are 96 MM (4 3/4 inches) between screws. I did have to add a few washers to the inside of the drawer because the screws with the new handles were a little long, Spend an extra buck and get a few washers just in case.The bottoms of the drawers are fiberboard and won't hold a lot of weight. However, that's okay because the cabinet is intended for hanging files, so the weight is distributed on the rails at the top of the drawers. Legal files fit laterally from side to side. There are also bars to hang two rows of letter size files front-to-back. All rails are plastic, but they seem like they are strong enough.I do wish the cabinet had a lock, but I knew it did not have before I purchased.

Like it. Not disappointed I bought it. Will definitely meet the need for which it was purchased. Was disappointed that I pulled everything out and laid it out and was missing a large pack of screws. I did go online to Bush's website and left message. A couple of days later got a response saying that it was gonna be sent to me. Husband went to Home Depot and picked up a pack of same size ones so I was only delayed one day. Had a scratch or two but furniture repair magic marker took care of those.

Overall, a very nice piece of office furniture. Nearly matches an espresso desk purchased at Staples. Easy to assemble, from opening box to cleaning up debris was under two hours. Had a damaged drawer side panel that was repairable. Have a broken hanging file guide that I will call about tomorrow. A tip: always add wood glue when alignment dowels are used. I think it just makes it sturdier. Two small scratches were easily covered with a sharpie pen.

It's a nice product for the price: fit and finish are good, assembly is straight forward (especially if you've ever assembled any Ikea products), the drawers slide nicely. It took me about 40 minutes to fully assemble.Two notes: (1) this sucker is HEAVY! (2) Keep a light touch when putting screws in - the holes in the particle board strip easily. For most of the assembly I used my cordless drill with a 1-22 torque adjustment set on *ONE*.

decent looking except for the drawer handles which look incredibly cheap. had to get a replacement unit sent since the top and two sides were scratched during shipping but the replacement had scratches too. not as big scratches but still very noticeable

Last piece I unpacked was cracked top. Box was already destroyed so I glued top and put it together as is. It is functional for home office but not a showpiece!

I bought this lateral file as well as the matching corner desk and hutch. Whereas the design is pretty good and the build quality OK (Use wood glue while assembling. Makes a huge difference!), the laminate finish is horrible! Whatever you do, don't let a piece of tape touch it. Not for a second! It will pull the finish right off with it. What you are left with are whitish marks contrasting the dark brown finish. Also the front edge where you rest your arms will wear quickly. It's a shame I spent this much money on this set with hopes of it lasting for many years but having it look like garbage after a relatively short time.

I needed extra storage in my office so bought this as it looked like it would match my desk. It wasn't a perfect match but it's o.k. I was able to put it together myself, but it did take me a long time. If you have 2 people it would go faster. It's not the greatest quality, but it serves the purpose and it wasn't really expensive.

This cabinet is decent enough for the price. It wasn't too difficult to assemble. The surface scratches pretty easily though.

My wife needed a lateral file, something that would do double duty as a TV stand and a filing cabinet. She wanted a dark wood finish to match other pieces in the office. We looked at various options at the local office supply stores, but the only choices were really cheap and flimsy Sauder-brand furniture or an expensive very utilitarian-looking metal filing cabinet. We saw some other styles of Bush furniture and I've had some in the past that was fairly solid, so I took a chance and ordered this online. Since there were no other reviews, I didn't know what to expect.The package arrived earlier than expected and was well packaged with extra cardboard on the corners to prevent damage. In fact, no pieces were damaged or scratched. The package weighs over 80 lb. and needs two people to move. Instructions were well illustrated and clearly written. Pieces that needed to be labeled were clearly labeled. All the fasteners came in labeled bags. This item would have received 5 stars except for a few things:1. The pre-drilled holes weren't cleanly bored and screw holes weren't deep enough resulting in some alignment issues during assembly. Some pre-drilled holes were too big and screws wouldn't hold. For some parts, I had to use my own screws and drill new holes to ensure a strong connection.2. The hardware with the exception of the drawer slides were crap. The RTA cam-locks didn't fully engage so I couldn't tell if I had turned the cam far enough. The small screws used to fasten nearly everything from the drawer slides to the edging for hanging folders were junk. I don't have a lot of forearm strength, but the screw heads kept twisting off. It might have been because the holes weren't drilled deep enough, but even when they were, the heads still popped off. Now I worry that the drawer slides may eventually fall off.3. Because the holes weren't drilled properly, when inserting the screws, the vinyl laminate would pucker and the pieces wouldn't mate properly. There would be a substantial gap between the pieces.4. The drawer handles look like metal, but they're actually chromed plastic. Very cheap feeling. The hanging rails are all plastic. Also very cheap. Not sure if they'll support a full load of file folders5. The safety mechanism to prevent both drawers from being opened at once (to prevent a tip-over) doesn't work very smoothly.The Bush furniture I used to have was much better. For the price, I expect more and would have liked more metal components and better hardware. The instructions say that the drawers will hold 60 lb. each and the top will hold 200 lb. The finish looks nice and the edges look like they should be durable enough, but we will see. All in all, it's just okay.

Package damaged and item very scratched up.

I sent it back. It was badly damaged. Also, either I didn't read the description closely enough or it did not state; but, it had to be put together. Nor something I enjoy doing.

looks nice. came with 0 instructions just had to figure it out on my own. drawer grooves that hold bottom in broken in spots good thing it for hanging files. hope the desk is better

Looks pretty, but not good quality. Whenever we got it it was damaged. We did not notice the damage until my husband had put it together which took about an hour. Not worth sending it back because of the time it took to put it together.

This arrived broken in two places. Rather than deal with the hassle of returning it without talking to an actual person, I paid the person putting it together for me to try and glue it back together. It was irritating.

If I could do it all over, I would scroll past this item. The instructions are poor and the it is made from inferior materials. The fact that the bottom of the drawers are literally cardboard - they could not even spring for cheap plywood. This product make Ikea look like high end furniture. They say you get what you pay for, but in this case, I felt like I really over paid. Would NOT recommend.

This came to me broken and I had to send it back.

This is made of particle board. At least two of the particle board pieces came apart when I was assembling them. The 1800 number is continuously busy when it's available during normal business hours. I was told that their phones were down when I emailed customer service. I was promised replacement parts by customer service and was given instructions on assembling it promptly by email.A week after assembling this product I am updating my review that Amazon needs to immediately stop selling this product due to safety reasons. The drawers do not have a locking mechanism. I just had both drawers suddenly slide open without warning and the whole unit tilted on its side. I have not heard back yet from the customer service rep on my email yesterday on my concerns about its safety.

I did not purchase a refurbished cabinet, but what I received it very used a warn. There were someone old food in the drawers. I need someone to call me about this.

Do NOT purchase this item unless you enjoy putting things together, and have a couple of hours to spare. It is very Ikea-esque, except more complicated. The packaging is also complicated; it comes in many, many pieces with lots of hardware. We thought all of the many parts were accounted for before we began the build, only to discover 75% of the way through that we had missed one (Z39433). And it was not included in the box. With the product 3/4 of the way complete, I anticipate liking the piece (with a better rating). It is a nice finish, and I think it will look sleek in my office; however, I give it a 1 star rating for now until I get hear back from the seller, and we can resolve the missing piece(s) issue. I have all my pretty files ready to go into this beauty. Hope it can be resolved soon.

I bought 3 of them and one is not ok. Looks like it was previously sold and them return to you. Any ways I assembled it because is worst if I return to you because I saw the problem whe I started to assembled. Too late but it is not nice from you guys!
