A tape measure for the metric and imperial lovers
May 31, 2017
Its a tape measure, and is really good at measuring how long things are. But what makes this an exceptional tape measure is its in both metric and imperial, so best of both worlds. I grew up in feet/inches and still think that way mostly. But at school I was taught metric, so i can think , math and measure in metric, but cannot size. Note outside of US, rest of world is metric, so a dual measure helps you visualise how they relate.
Good quality tape with metric system
May 6, 2016
I was looking for a measuring tape that had both inches/ft and cm scale. This was one of the very few tapes that I found had both. Also, I wanted the scale to be continuous. Some of the tapes had measurement reset every 10 cm. This tape continues the count to 11, 12 and so on and does not reset to 1 after every 10th marking (see picture).Overall I am happy with the quality of the tape.Note: The Steele-blue colored tape that Amazon has in product description of this tape is incorrect. It is a yellow colored tape v
superior product - wow!
November 25, 2015
Wow. You might think, what can be so amazing about a measuring tape. Well, I have been a professional carpenter for years, and I just bought this little guy to have on hand for those quick little household projects where I don't want to drag out my whole tool belt. I wasn't expecting much for the price I paid. But here's why its amazing: 1) lightweight 2) nylon-coated blade so it has a super-smooth motion 3) even though it is only 3/4 inch wide blade, the extra curvature makes it able to extend surprisingly far without support. So that's why it gets a Wow rating - way more than I expected for the price - truly a superior product.
The name "power tape" is well deserved!
September 12, 2015
Great little measuring tape. I bought this tape after I lost the earlier one while moving apartments. It is made of solid durable plastic and will not break easily. The tape retracts into the body once you release it after measuring. The little black slider you see in the product image holds the tape in place and prevents retracting in case you want to keep working with the tape continuously. Probably the best measuring tape for its price on Amazon. Recommend buying it.
Great Quality & Nice Color
May 19, 2015
This is an affordable retractable tape measure that works well. The bright yellow color is optimal because it makes it harder to misplace at a job site. It includes a nice belt clip and the retractable tape action feels very smooth! Also, a small thumb press will hold the tape in place. A harder thumb press will completely lock the tape until the user wishes to unlock it to allow the tape to retract. The size is minimal as well. I have larger hands and it fits comfortably in the the palms of my hands.
A real steal and simply a great deal!
August 7, 2014
I received the 4912IM tape measure today. Wow.....for $6.62 (@ 55 cents a foot, lol) it can't be beat. Small enough to fit in your pocket, perfect for measuring items at the store or home. I like the combo metric/inch measure too. Like most current tape measures, it has a plastic housing. However, it appears durable enough. In fact, laugh you may, when was the last time you saw a retracting measuring tape housing made of metal??? Even Stanley's are made of plastic as well. A nice touch, the Komelon has a spring loaded "bumper guard" when the tape is retracted. It prevents hook shock during quick retraction. And last, the metal tape is coated with their "Dura-NY-Coatâ„¢" a very slick and protective nylon material.Let's see how well it work a few years down the road!

These are one of those items that you'll lose before you break it. You'll hand this down to your kids and they will hand it down to theirs. I've had other, cheaper tape measures and they all have broke in some capacity - the tape rips and becomes dangerously sharp, the lock breaks, or the tip bends. Buy one of these and forget about needing another.

September 2, 2017
As a carpenter in a custom cabinetry shop I use my tape measure all day every day. Ill admit this isnt my favorite tape (I love Milwaukee brand tapes for my personal tool kit) but for as much use and abuse as my work tools get I need a cheaper version since they wear out and need replacement more often. This stands up to lots of use and lots of drops at work every day for many months before the tape wears out.
Sturdy pocket tool
June 21, 2017
Got this one for my son and it appears well-built and durable. My 10' Stanley Powerlock is smaller and narrower, and the mylar is starting to wear off, but the True-Zero hook still works and the lock as well as spring retraction are still great after 30 years. I hope this 16' gives my son as good service as my old Stanley measure has given me.

June 13, 2017
After buying several newer designed tape rules and having them fail in a mater of months or even less I went back to the first one I ever used thirty years ago. They lasted my dad decades and they seam to be built the exact same way as they were thirty years ago. Its really difficult to find quality products these days and especially difficult to find quality products that are made in the USA.
Good Tape in Compact Form
November 29, 2016
I do a large amount of work with tape measures in aerial lifts over others' heads. Before purchasing this, I would bring up my 30' Stanley tape, but I find it to be unnecessarily heavy (dropping tools is a big no, and yes it is attached to me via a tool leash) and I rarely needed that length of tape. Since, the majority of the measurements I take are <10', so this is the perfect combination of length with a lightweight body. The only downside is that the tape is thinner, so it has a shorter standout length (roughly 2'-6" - 3'-0"), but I expected that for a tape of this size. Lock works fine. In order to accommodate my tool leash, I've attached a metal keyring to the pocket clip. Solid construction, as usual from Stanley.
A good tape for $9 bucks!
February 25, 2016
I can get it to extend to a little over 7 feet before it snaps. Solid tape, just as good as any Stanley one you buy in the store. Comes in a good strong plastic packaging that will protect it from scuffs.Heads up though! If you're looking at the picture and expecting to get a white cube on the side to write your name on it. The one i received does not have this. Otherwise, got what i expected.

I really like these tapes
April 27, 2017
I really like these tapes. They hold up really and the lines on the tape last a long time. The only complaint I have is that, all the Komelon tapes I have used are 1/32 off. Do to the tip. If you burn an inch, the tape is accurate.
The perfect tape for the field archaeologist.
November 4, 2016
I need a tape measure with both metric and imperial units for work. Since that work is archaeology, and I go through a lot of tapes (lost in cornfields, lost in thick patches of briers, accidentally buried in a hole) I also need those tape measures to be small and affordable. This fits the bill.
Works well
October 12, 2016
Nothing fancy about this. Does what it is supposed to do. Bought it after a super old one that was passed down to me froze up. I use it all the time and it works well.
Just what I needed
September 20, 2016
I really love this little tape measure. It's SO handy for measuring smaller distances, like how far apart to put nails to hang up a frame that takes two nails. One star off because it is (for me) hard to lock and unlock. I use it ALL THE TIME.
Good metric tape measure, frustrating packaging
September 22, 2013
The tape measure is a good size for day-to-day interior measurements. Seems sturdy enough for that purpose. I am happy with it.The packaging is terrible; I was surprised that I eventually managed to separate the product from the packaging without serious injury, and without damaging the product. It took me about 10 minutes with a sharp knife and scissors. Even the instructions tell you to slice it out of the plastic packaging, which requires cutting down towards the product. Once you separate it from the packaging, the product is good.Better also order a sharp knife and a first aid kit when you order this tape :)
Just a thing to measure with
December 29, 2012
Ok, what can I say?Plastic, good quality on the outside.Quality feel to the brake/lock as well,The only star it loses is for the packaging! The item almost requires you to break it, or break yourself in the process trying to free it from it's plastic cage!Other than that, it's an excellent tool!

Portable & Indispensable
April 17, 2017
Great tape measure. I wish it were a little lighter but if it were it would probably be less well-made. My wife keeps "borrowing" it. this would make a nice gift for anyone who likes to constantly remodel their home or, like me, makes frequent trips to hardware store but doesn't need a full size tape measure 24/7.
It's a classic reliable tape measure.. just get it.
November 6, 2016
Works flawlessly. This is a classic tape measure they never fails me. Can't go wrong with it. Hey it's also not made of plastic garbage.
4.5 stars to be exact
July 22, 2015
I know this is a great tape measure, we've had one in the house for years. But I wanted one of my own. 25 feet seems to be the sweet spot of sturdy tape and max distance you need for 99.9% of tasks. The ONLY reason I removed a star was for the packaging, which I know probably works great for a display or hanging in an aisle - But I was so worried I was going to break the clip in the back while removing the plastic. My wife thought I was over reacting, and normally she'd be right, but I've worked for a packaging company for almost 15 years and know my products. And even though this item is not classified as blister or clamshell packaging, it comes pretty darn close. And if you ever wondered why someone came up with hassle free packages it's because of stuff like this.
It does it's job
April 23, 2014
It is just a tape measure. No frills of any sort. It does exactly what I need it to do. It measures as accurately as any tape can in human hands. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that we use several dozen of these in our plant and they just aren't as sturdy as they used to be. Or as I remember them being. The tapes can, and do, frequently tear and break. I just wish they'd build them a little sturdier, but other than that, it works fine. If you're doing light use work, like house work, or even framing and roofing a home, this will do ok, but in our work environment where it is used dozens or hundreds of time per day, it just doesn't hold up as well as it used to.

The tape is too soft. I would suggest buying the 30ft/9m version (Komelon 4930IM The Professional 30-Foot Inch/Metric Scale Power Tape, Yellow) instead, which have wider and harder tape.

April 18, 2016
This is not greatest tape measure I've ever had but I will say that it is well built. My particular problem with this measure is that the markings are long by 10 cm at the 300 cm mark. All measures have some margin for error so this is understandable though it does seem a bit of a large error to me.
Awful packaging
December 5, 2015
Product works fine but it takes literally an hour to remove from the plastic clamshell packaging. Would not recommend.
It's OK
May 15, 2014
I really like my old Stanley tape measure best, but it broken after 30 years. This one is ok but it's much heavier & doesn't fit well in my small hands.
It lasted less than two years
November 26, 2013
I bought this tape in Jan of 2012. In the last year or so the numbers in the 1 to 3 inch range started peeling off and were hard to read. Finally the end broke off and it is now junk. It worked fine for a while but now I know why it has only a 1 year limited warranty. Fine for home use but not for an active woodworker. Next tape I get will have a lifetime warranty
Terrible packaging
December 15, 2012
There's nothing wrong with the tape itself, but this is some of the worst packaging I've ever had the pleasure of opening. Be prepared to carefully cut the clip out of the thick plastic packaging (a task for which even the Komelon admits scissors are not recommended) if you want to extract the tape without damaging it.

Crazy-heavy and rather unwieldy. But I should have known that going in...
its ok but the tape is weak and prone to ripping
December 2, 2016
its ok, but the tape is alot heavier then it looks, and the tape itself is of lower quality then the fat max version, i use this for working with 8x4 ply wood, and it works fine, but it wont last, most the other carpenters use fat max, but they dont make a 12 foot fat max. but i do like that it as a pocket clip, where the 6 foot fat max i have is nice and light but it doesnt have a pocket clip.
Not what it once was...
November 18, 2016
I do not like that the measuring tape color is now a dark yellow rather than a regular-colored yellow. The tape color went from roughly the color of French's mustard to the color of dried up mustard that you sometimes get around the cap!Aside from the dark yellow color (which makes it slightly harder to read measurements), the tape is fine.
Plastic Case. OK for house use
September 15, 2016
It should last for some time for my household use but the case is plastic. I suppose I didn't read the description thoroughly but I was thinking it might be metal housing, therefore a very sturdy product. I wouldn't expect this to last very long for someone in construction. It seems that one drop could completely bust the housing.
It's Plastic.
January 20, 2016
Im a furniture builder and I have his lil 12' metal brother for about 15 years, with occasionally WD-40 it held out that long. The spring system is starting to fail now.So I got this one, but you can't compare them, this on is a plastic housing, and the tape itself isn't as sturdy neither.Time will tell...
The bold and the blurriful
March 30, 2015
I purchased 2 of these at the same time and discovered varied printing qualities. The printing on one is nice and crisp while the other is not. They both will work but obviously one will be my go to while the other one is my blurry back up.

Locking mechanism quality problem
October 1, 2016
The case construction and tape itself is perfectly fine on this product and the dual units is helpful. Unfortunately, the locking mechanism broke after a few uses which makes the tape almost unusable in certain situations.
most obnoxious blister pack i've ever encountered
January 12, 2016
this device comes in one of the most obnoxious blisters packs i've ever had the experience of meeting. i cut out all the material around the tape risking my hands getting punctured by the plastic splinters only to find they had the belt clip encased in another layer of the crap. i have to say that the clip is sturdy because at one point i had my foot on the packaging pulling up on the device with all my weight on the clip in this plastic coffin. i finally had to risk cutting a finger off by employing a sturdy box-cutting razor knife to literally whittle the plastic away.i wouldn't have given it two stars if the clip hadn't survived this abuse. who comes up with this sort of crap anyway? they need to be sentenced to open every single item they sell personally. /guy
Dangerous and damaged
June 19, 2015
Two Problems were evident as soon as my 4 tapes arrived. Three of them were very badly scratched up - as if they were shipped in a large wooden crate and these were the ones on the bottom. Deep and dirty scratches that made me wonder if they might crack easily. I returned the 3 damaged onesSo I opened the one good one after a LOT of struggling to the point it was dangerous! Between the overly strong and sharp plastic edges and the scissors in my hand - I am lucky blood was not drawn. This item would have been much better packed in a cardboard box to protect it. The only thing covered by the ridiculous packaging is the small belt clip in back - which is too small to actually use./

Good scale, absolutely impossible to remove from packaging. Been using it for two weeks with plastic packaging still on. Ridiculous.
What's up with this packaging?
December 7, 2014
Very average product, needed an extra one around the house. Unfortunately, it is not self-locking which can be a pain, but cheap price so fine. The packaging is so bad that it prompted me to write this review. Took me longer to cut through the plastic attached to the belt clip than it would have if I had walked to the hardware store, bought one and walked back.
Tape measure came out of its casing!! Don't buy!
September 12, 2014
On the first use measuring a long space, the tape measure popped out of the case. Very poor quality. I put it back in but had to tape it in. Does not function well and will have to get another one. Will NOT be buying this brand again. Fortunately, Amazon customer service saved the day. Just finished chatting with them and they gave me a prepaid shipping label to return and get a refund. Yea Amazon! Just fyi, I just tested a couple at Home Depot and they looked about the same so I just got a $2 generic one because even the Stanley brand had the exact same problem. I remember my stanley lasted for 15+ years. They don't make em like they used to. : (

Worked for a year..until it didn't.
August 5, 2016
The tape measure snapped after a year of use. Worked perfectly fine as a tape measure, until it didn't. I was retracting the tape one day after taking a measurement in the attic and the tape broke off near the end. It looks like the manufacturer's warranty requires mailing it back, so it's not worth the trouble or expense. Recommend either buying from a manufacturer with a useful warranty or from a store that allows returns for warranties.
You can't measure without help
July 31, 2016
I could not imagine what could be wrong with such a simple device as this tape. But it happened that you cannot measure something without help if you try to hook one end - it does not remain hooked. Also, the lock barely holds the tape in place. A poor workmanship.I am reducing the rating to two (it was 3 previously) because the inability for the "tooth" remain in place and need for the help from somebody is really annoying. The thing is cheap in making.
Didn't Hold Up...Two months old and breaks so it can't be fixed.
July 10, 2016
I liked the size and length...and price was fine. I use a tape to measureoutside dimensions for roof sales...and it was okay.I immediately noticed the the tape lock was awkward and stiff. Hard tounlock and lock. Not terrible. But not smoothThen yesterday the tip fell off and the tape wound into the body...so useless to me..

Stop/Release slider is hard and barely usable

Mine won't retract after 9ft.
June 13, 2015
I got this because it has metric and our local big box store only offers standard. I used it on items a few feet long a couple times then tried to measure something 9 ft long. At 9ft the tension started to slip and I could not get it to retract. I pulled it out to the max 12ft with some difficulty and that's where it got stuck. It went into the trash. I know it wasn't expensive but it does say "professional" on the side. I expect to be safe pulling it out at least 75% of its max length. Apparently not.
Not durable
April 18, 2015
I was bent over measuring a rug and dropped the tape. This was maybe a 2 foot fall onto an area rug. The tape measure came out of the housing. I would expect any tool to be more durable than this. It is ruined and unusable. Yes, I tried to put it back together, but that doesn't seem possible.
The thing broke the first day!
March 27, 2013
I opened the package, tried to measure a room in my house and at the second measurement, whatever piece holds the metric tape breaks and I am left with a 12 Foot tape that can no longer retract.Cheap as cheap can be.
Dollar store quality
January 11, 2013
I pulled it about 3/4 of the way out--maybe 9 feet or so, and the thing just broke off it's roller, and does not retract. A complete POS.It's always been my policy not to buy cheap equipment because it costs more to buy something cheap two or three times than it does to spend more for quality once. I decided to ignore this rule, and a broken tool is the result. I'm going back to my original policy:Spending once cost less than saving twice.

February 13, 2017
I decided to purchase it seeing a lot of positive reviews and 4.5 star rating but I suggest you shouldn't take it into consideration while buying a measuring tape online.. The tape is weak and bends after 4 feets, moreover even withing 1-4 feet it doesn't feel like a solid product. It's better to try and buy a different tape in brick and mortar local hardware store.. You'll pay maybe $10 more but will be able to measure things properly by YOURSELF. This tape deserves 0/5

Making the tape measure useless for trim work and worthless to me
April 1, 2016
The tape I got was American made but was still defective. The tape hook moves as it should but must be offset because the measurement is off a fat 16th. Making the tape measure useless for trim work and worthless to me. I am unable to return it because I waited more than 30 days before I even opened it to use it. Never have had this problem with a Stanley tape before
Seems like there's some serious quality control issues going on with ...
September 5, 2015
Ordered two of the 25-Foot tape measures a few months ago and barely used them at all. They are Stanley brand with the metal casing as pictured. However, one of these tape measures just literally fell apart in my hands randomly as I was normally extending the tape to measure something. First the tape seemed to jam up and would not retract itself, so I decided to gently pull out the tape to its full 25 feet to see if that would help... and then the tape just pops right out of the metal case and gets this black grease all over my hands.I see from other reviews now that this has happened to other people too. Seems like there's some serious quality control issues going on with this seller and their stock. I've always heard that Stanley tape measures are supposed to be good quality and the professional choice so I doubt this is a problem with the brand itself. I would advise choosing a different seller or just not buying this from Amazon at all, as Amazon seems to have quality control problems with a lot of items.

May 18, 2015
I had to replace this after 5 uses and it was not "power usage". I was measuring a kitchen and had the tape under the refrdgerator. When I released the lock it got momentarily snagged and game out missing 7" of the tape. It simply snapped off. I would have expected considerably more durability than this from ANY tape measure, but surely more from the Stanley name.I have bought the Fat Max as a replacement - we'll see how that goes
